Scenario: you want to hang out with your friends. You shoot them a message and they all agree. You also offer to drive. Question is,
“I can’t drive!” Pretend you do for this one post. This is about the mindset, not the reality.

an ex-zionist jewish man recently went a bit viral on tiktok for sharing exactly how he sees zionism tie israel to the jewish identity and his personal experience with breaking away from it - I think it’s a really great watch.
He also made a follow up talking specifically about how he learned to humanise Palestinians, and a really integral part of it was his school, which would often bring in Palestinian speakers who’d share their perspective (here’s a link to it).
#tiktok against all odds inspires a lot of hope in me bc of how prevalent palestinian support is over there#so much of the younger generation is so media literate and articulate about standing up to oppression#and getting perspectives like this I think is really beneficial when it comes to understanding where Zionist talking points come from#I don’t particularly think right now our priority should be reaching out to zionists or anything#it should always be Palestinians at the forefront of activism our activism#but this is educational. Zionism is not Judaism and this proves that.#it’s never too late to turn away from oppressive propaganda and have empathy for your fellow man#palestine#israel#free palestine#from the river to the sea

“When I first heard it, from a dog trainer who knew her behavioral science, it was a stunning moment. I remember where I was standing, what block of Brooklyn’s streets. It was like holding a piece of polished obsidian in the hand, feeling its weight and irreducibility. And its fathomless blackness. Punishment is reinforcing to the punisher. Of course. It fit the science, and it also fit the hidden memories stored in a deeply buried, rusty lockbox inside me. The people who walked down the street arbitrarily compressing their dogs’ tracheas, to which the poor beasts could only submit in uncomprehending misery; the parents who slapped their crying toddlers for the crime of being tired or hungry: These were not aberrantly malevolent villains. They were not doing what they did because they thought it was right, or even because it worked very well. They were simply caught in the same feedback loop in which all behavior is made. Their spasms of delivering small torments relieved their frustration and gave the impression of momentum toward a solution. Most potently, it immediately stopped the behavior. No matter that the effect probably won’t last: the reinforcer—the silence or the cessation of the annoyance—was exquisitely timed. Now. Boy does that feel good.”
— Melissa Holbrook Pierson, The Secret History of Kindness (2015)
#dog books#this chapter was very sad reading#when you become aware of punishment#and its use and its prevalence#it's hard not to despair#again this is why positive reinforcement feels like absolution#maybe now my eyes are open I can make up for what I did#what I did because it's what everyone does#because it's more acceptable to punish than to do anything else#I've been having so many thoughts about punishment and society and justice#this book was very validating#another great validating moment in my jumbled thoughts#was listening to the You're Wrong About episode on justice#with Amanda Knox#it helped to ease the despair a little

its really wild how many movies and tv shows are just like, obscenely skinny. how many casts are representative of the average population, if you sampled a crowd in a normal store or on a train? how many actually “average” bodies do you see on screen? how often are the stomachs shown flat or concave, how often are the thighs all muscle no fat, how often are the jawlines and cheekbones totally sharp and not covered by even a hint of softness? its bizarre and offputting whenever you start looking at media with that in mind
#fat people on screen! chubby people on screen! people with literally standard and average weights and body fat distributions on screen now!#kora.txt#an important note is i watch a lot of moviea from the 2000s and it was a movie from 2013 that made me think of this specifically w/ a post#i saw as well but its still so prevalent.

There's something especially biting about people telling transmascs specifically to unpack their misogyny.
After so long of being yelled at or berated by my mother. Looked at with disgust for not shaving my legs and yelled at when I cut my hair, guilt tripped into wearing makeup, and being told any masculine dress was "not socially acceptable." All things that actively hurt gnc women as well as trans people. All things that are misogynistic to imply women have to do.
Every time I try to come out as trans: "I wish you weren't ashamed of your femininity, I'm so heartbroken that you hate women. You're only trying to become a man because you think women are inferior." Following it up with a "why can't you express yourself as you are and just be a gnc woman..." As if she didn't just mock me for those exact traits.
My mother, and by extension TERFs (as my mother is one), constantly imply that the only reason transmasculine people exist is because they are poor little girls who struggle with internalized misogyny. They need to embrace being the gnc women they truly are~ And the gnc women need to fix their internalized misogyny by being more feminine~
So imagine my frustration when the communities I assume to be safe for trans people (both irl and online) hit me with the "transmascs need to unpack their misogyny :/" "a surprising number of transmascs are misogynistic actually :/"
Everyone needs to unpack their misogyny dipshit. The fact that transmascs are singled out specifically leads me to conclude one (or both) of two things:
You have encountered a shitty transmasc person and have taken it upon yourself to decide that the entire transmasc community is like that. I'm not saying misogynistic transmascs don't exist, but if you see someone with a bigoted worldview and go "well this is indicative of the entire community" you are the problem.
You think transmascs are misogynistic for getting gender dysphoria around things that are feminine or conversely, they are misogynistic for getting euphoria around masculinity. This is just straight up punishing trans people for being true to themselves.
Both of these are transphobic arguments and are common TERF tactics to discredit trans people. I do not trust you if you hold the opinion that misogyny is more prevalent in transmasculine spaces than in society at large.
#this is a kinda all over the place rant#it's just frustrating to constantly hear my community singled out for an issue that is much more prevalent in other communities#and it just reeks of that subtext that transmascs are only trans because they hate women#transphobia#transandrophobia

I hate it so much when there’s news of men committing horrific crimes against women and children, the comments always say “people are horrible” “humanity is doomed” and “people should be better” when it’s not people who are doing this, it’s MEN specifically who are committing these atrocities and harming us. Why is it that they don’t want to come to terms with the fact this is men’s doing, it’s men who are a danger, not just people. Crimes against women and children are committed by MEN. Secondly, stop calling grown men boys because you can’t bring yourself to hold MEN accountable, but calling them boys shows you only want this cycle of justification for men’s vile behaviour and lack of accountability to continue on.
#radblr#radical feminism#radical feminist safe#feminism#men are the problem#stop calling grown boys when they commit crimes#stop beating around the bush when we talk about men’s prevalent crimes against women

I'm so fucking sick of amatonormativity dude. Someone on Reddit left a comment that was basically like "the majority of people need a romantic relationship to be happy, it's how we're wired" and I responded saying that I disagreed and that more and more people (especially women) are finding fulfillment in other relationships and are happy being single.
I got heavily downvoted.
Of course most people like being in a committed relationship, but you don't have to be aromantic or asexual to enjoy being single. Maybe more people would like being single if we as a culture stopped pushing the narrative (especially on women) that being single is lonely, horrible, and depressing and that you need a romantic partner to be a complete person.
#amatonormativity is so insidious and prevalent and most people don't even realize they've fallen for the propaganda#like of course having a life partner is very important to a lot of people#but can we PLEASE stop acting like almost everyone is 'wired' for a monogamous romantic/sexual relationship#and people always fall back on 'well humans are social creatures we need to have relationships'#bitch I have my friends and family and colleagues what relationships am I lacking#amatonormativity#aromantic#aromantism#arospec#aspec#asexual#aroace#aphobia#1k

starting a petition to end this dichotomy in warrior cats designs forever

i dont really like it when people dumb down Curly's characterization to just the guy enabling Jimmy. I get that that makes it easier to not like him, so that's why a lot of people do that, because they feel guilty about sympathizing with someone who's done smth fucked up like that, but i really don't think it's giving Curly the justice he deserves.
regardless of if you like him as a person or not, Curly is still a victim and he suffered greatly at Jimmy's hand. Just because he did something fucked up doesn't make him a 'monster' (sorry because i saw someone say that he looks like a monster post-crash and thats sticking with me because why TF are we saying disabled burn victims look like LITERAL MONSTERS- yall use some common sense I BEG)
Dumbing down characters is what fandom does best, but i think it particularly irks me in Mouthwashing because of the nature of the story. Jimmy already thinks of the rest of the crew poorly and doesn't see them for how they really are, we don't need to be doing that too.
I also feel like people don't really recognize the fact Jimmy manipulates and abuses Curly too, even before the crash. What Curly did was fucked up but for the love, don't dumb him down to just this one thing he did.
#as someone who loves to analyze medias for characterization patterns some of yalls takes actually pain me#its kinda obvious yall didnt actually think hard about the different scenes and the interactions between everyone#like replay the game or rewatch a play through and focus on character interactions- then come back to me#ALSO THE PREVALENT ABLEISM IN THIS FANDOM DEAR FKIN GOD#YALL REALIZE THAT BEING ABLEIST TO A FICTIONAL CHARACTER ALSO EFFECTS THE DISABLED RIGHT#thats a whole other rant post tho#mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#fuck you jimmy#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#mouth washing#riv rambling

I think what really bothers me about fanon!Astarion isn't just the woobification. That happens to every problematic white boy. It's annoying, but not news. It's that almost every trait that the fandom assigns him is something that is already explored through a different character in this very game
You want a character that's too focused on the task at hand to want to stop and help innocents? That's Lae'zel! Astarion is cool with dicking around, but Lae'zel spends most act 1 actively in a panic about the tadpole and pushes you to just find a cure already
You want a trauma survivor that is mostly self-serving but can't help but care about people in a similar situation? Well, Astarion disaproves of you helping slaves, but Shadowheart really wants you to look out for kids! Even when she gets tortured for it!
You want someone who is prone to sympathizing with the monstrous? Despite being a monster hunter, it's Wyll that has that covered! Astarion doesn't even like you sympathizing with a recently orphaned goblin kid
You want a proper courtship with a prince charming? That's literally Wyll's romance!
You want a character that tries very hard to be bad, but deep down enjoys doing the right thing, and starts to accept that over the course of the game? Shadowheart again! A massive part of her story is just that
You want the angst of a character still having been a minor when entering their abusive situation? That's the case for literally everybody except for him and maybe Karlach! He was an adult with a job
None of this is meant to be an attack on Astarion as a character, but pushing all those traits on him does the game a massive disservice. All these character's storylines exist in conversation with each other, they all benefit from the existence of the others. To instead pretend all those things apply to one character, is just
Well, it's incredibly boring
#not to mention all the other characters mentioned are women and a black man#and it's a bad look if you have to apply their traits to a white man to find them interesting lol#but anyway can't stess enough that I do think Astarion is a great character#he's just not the character a lot of his fans think he is#and it's a shame how prevalent that version of him has gotten#bg3#astarion

every time i see "old" aro/ace terminology that isn't nearly as commonplace as it once was because the online communities that either created them or promoted them got destroyed during the peak of exclusionism during the 2010s i get so sad
it was genuinely horrific watching aspec communities dwindle in numbers online in real time during 2015-2019 (i'm sure it is a major contributor to how bad my internalized arophobia was at the time) and i wish people other than aro/ace people spoke up about it or even Acknowledged the amount of damage it did to our community
this post was brought to you by black ace rings, white aro rings, ace of spades, ace of clubs, ace of hearts, ace of diamonds, and all of the other symbols we had that have been lost to newer generations due to so much of the community being effectively harassed away by TERFs
#aromantic#asexual#aspec#yes i am aware these things are still used and prevalent in the communities BUT they aren't as well known within the communities compared t#what i saw in the past (and this is coming from someone who was very new to the community during that time which speaks volumes)
