this. i was happy to see buck happy regardless of partner (tommy, eddie, mystery partner that doesn’t exist rn, etc) but like once i calmed down it made sense that they both have issues. tommy has commitment issues and buck commits too much at the sacrifice of himself.

okay actually i do need to say this. before i sleep. because if you genuinely believe that buck. BUCK BUCKLEY. truly saw a future with tommy and that this relationship was any different to his previous relationships. you do not understand buck buckley and frankly you never have. like, this is made abundantly clear during the conversation with josh. if you actually care to pay attention. because time and time again buck bases his identity, self-worth and happiness on the person he is dating. josh asks him if he considers tommy's happiness in the same way he considers his own. and buck's answer is yes, of course. because he is fundamentally unable to tell the difference between the two. because he thinks that making tommy happy is the same as being happy himself. when, actually, it's at the expense of his own happiness. he misunderstands entirely what josh is trying to say. he impulsively asks tommy to move in with him because he thinks it will make tommy happy which will then also make him happy. because buck is nothing if not a people pleaser. due to, well. the Trauma. he never got off the hamster wheel. dating a man didn't fix any of this. because it was never about that (and suggesting it was is, well. biphobic actually). buck's issue has always been that he does not know how to be in a relationship without shrinking himself down to the shape and size of a person he thinks his partner wants and losing himself in the process. which he was about to do again. and well. lmao. for once tommy's self-preservation was actually a good thing. because wow, that could have been taylor all over again.

Mmh there're never gonna be quite as close to April as Donnie is, but it's not because she's human (they get over that eventuality, even Mikey) but they didn't grow up with her the way Donnie did. They all become close friends eventually but I dunno for sure if they start viewing her as their sister? I mean they obviously view Donnie as their brother and recognize that April is basically his sister, so like..... step-sister maybe....? Then again I don't think their exact dynamic with April is something they've necesarily put a ton of concious thought into, they do view her as part of the greater Hamato-Draxum-O'Neil family so that's something.

hi, I'm writing smth and I was wondering if you knew any references for how the batfam's costumes look/are made of (like layering and weapons and stuff)? specificly Cass, Jason and Duke but any of the other ones would be great too

Hello! Delighted to help, and I'll start off by mentioning that the Ultimate Guide to Batman (2022) says the bat-suit is constructed of "15 micro layers of Nomex reinforced fabric, the innermost layers providing insulation against extreme temperatures and covering the whole suit is a shell of triple weave kevlar". Bruce undoubtedly goes just as overboard for his kids' costumes, so that's a pretty good outline of what the layering might be. Additional notes include the suit being fireproof, capable of shocking opponents, vaguely shockproof (but Jason has tased Bruce before so I don't know).

Also, Jason's costumes tend to be sort of all over the place (there are several versions), if you stick to the Under the Hood comic one (he's prepping on fighting Batman I assume this is a pretty decent version of his suit), then you've got:

Which is essentially a streamlined bit of body armour with biker leathers, boots, and a helmet modelled off a bike helmet. Weapons he carries include guns, bombs, combat knives.

If we move onto Cass, she carries most of the same weapons as Bruce, including Batarangs, grapple gun, smoke pellets, and if you want to get creative, considering her canonical master excellency in hand-to-hand and with multiple weapons (including a mace!), you could probably have her roll with several improvised weapons or things like swords. One of her usual costume appears like this (as Oprhan, she has also had several variants):

But she's best known for/most recognizable in one that's essentially a play off Batman's suit usually (so his defensive layers apply). A quick note for Cass is that she's (with deep affection) insane, so even if the suit took plenty of damage she would keep going.

Duke's actually quite fun in this regard, because he's got several cool weapons including modified grapply- Escrima sticks (commonly seen with Nightwing), I think at some point he ran around with Nunchuks (?), but he's also got really cool light-based powers. His suits vary less (from my DEEPLY limited knowledge, sorry!) but his most recognizable look is bright yellow with a helmet (and probably all the same layers as it is one Bruce helped with). Also as a note, as he is a meta, he does heal slightly/moderately faster than the average human (perhaps that shapes how you describe his suit, idk).

Sorry to bring up MAWS again, lol; Whilst I have enjoyed it, there are absolutely flaws in the execution of certain characters and ideas. I really appreciate your take on Asian Lois Lane, and looking at Superman characters/lore through an immigrant lens. -- Anyway, I recognize you probably don't feel as comfortable or informed to speak about Jimmy's racebending (not that you have to, of course), but he's getting even less in that department. At least CW Supergirl did some things with -P/1of2

Hope you don't mind me combining your two asks here for a smoother read! I totally agree with all this. I can only speak for S1 of MAWS, but I've watched all of CW Supergirl (for J'onn and Ma'al cough) and even with how poorly Jimmy/James was handled as a Black love interest and side character, he was still a far superior and substantial character compared to MAWS!Jimmy. His Blackness informed his characterization and even when convos about racism were on-the-nose on CW Supergirl, at least they were earnestly being had- unlike MAWS where racism just doesn't exist (in fact the show goes out of its way to erase it).

I have talked about MAWS!Jimmy here and there- mostly calling out his character being generally sidelined, that terrible joke where Mallah and Brain were judging Jimmy for not understanding what oppression is, Jimmy being ghosted for a camping trip acting as the basis for his understanding of oppression, and Jimmy being the Reluctant Black Friend everyone vents to in the Thanksgiving episode. But generally I try not to talk over anyone since I'm not as informed- the only complaint I was able to bump into from Black viewers was that Jimmy's final design sometimes read more South Asian than Black to some people.

Personally my fav Black Jimmy design is from Battle of the Supersons,,,,

please his freckles and dapper fit!! He doesn't need the red hair to look good in green and this is proof to me,,,

But yeah- the usual Black critics I would check on who were thoroughly and rightfully critical of the handling of Supergirl's Jimmy were suddenly so uncritical of MAWS!Jimmy. It's like the minute a show is animated, some people decided to go easy on it because it's cute or whatever. I don't know what spell they're under to think that way- but I stand by my opinion that while CW Supergirl wasn't perfect, it looks like Shakespere in comparison to MAWS.
