The sky was an endless expanse of deep black, streaked with isolated stars that sparkled like cold fire. Between them, a figure glided silently through the night, its black wings spread, radiating ice-blue cold. Kaji flew high above the city, his body a shadow play against the silver moon.
The wind tugged at his hair, playing with the black strands, while the white strand on his forehead shimmered in the light. His turquoise eyes focused on the dark streets below him, but his mind was still on training with his uncle Shoto. The frosty air was nothing compared to the cold he and his uncle could unleash. Today they had worked on new combinations, on even more precise attacks. But now Kaji just wanted to go home, his muscles burned with exhaustion, and the only thing he could think about was a hot shower and sleep.
With a powerful flap of his wings, he dived down, heading straight for his family's apartment. His window was open, as always - a habit that made it easier for him to get in quickly. He glided through silently, dropped to the floor and stretched.
With a practiced movement, he ripped his bag from his shoulder and threw it carelessly onto his bed. His coat followed shortly after, landing over the chair at his desk. He ran his hand through his disheveled hair and stepped out into the hallway.
“I’m back!” he called, but there was no answer.
His brow furrowed. Unusual. Usually his mother was the first to greet him, or his father at least mumbled something from the couch. But now – nothing. Just silence.
A strange feeling crept up inside him as he slowly walked down the stairs. There was a light on downstairs, warm, inviting light shining from the living room. Kaji exhaled. Maybe they just hadn't heard him come in.
His steps were quiet, almost cautious, as he entered the room. And then – he froze.
His eyes widened, his breath caught in his throat. A sudden wave of heat shot across his face, turning it bright red. His head felt like it was about to explode.
His parents - naked. His father, Dabi, pinned his mother against the wall, his scarred hands holding her legs up as his hips bucked against hers with unmistakable intensity. Rain's arms were wrapped around his neck, her breathing heavy as she squirmed in his grip.
Kaji's brain refused to work. "...Oh damn..." He stumbled backwards, almost hitting the door. His heart was racing, his whole body was so tense it hurt.
Dabi's movements stopped, his turquoise eyes, which sparkled almost unnaturally in the warm light, turned to the door. A shadow in the doorway, frozen like a deer in the headlights.
Kaji.
A dark smile twitched across Dabi's lips, and instead of hastily pulling away or even looking surprised, he pulled Rain even closer to him. His grip on her thighs remained strong as he tilted his head slightly.
"Tsk..." A quiet snort, half amusement, half mockery. "Well, my son? Don't you like the sight?"
Kaji looked away, but the burning image was already burned into his brain. His parents – In a way he never wanted to see. His stomach clenched, his face burned, and his body was tense, as if he was preparing for a fight.
"Dude, what the hell?!" His voice nearly cracked and he ran his hand through his hair as if he could somehow distance himself from the situation. "Can't you do this somewhere else?!"
Rain was breathing heavily, her cheeks also flushed - not out of shame, but because of the state she was in. She pressed her forehead against Dabi's shoulder, as if she wanted to block out Kaji's existence for a moment.
“Maybe… you should go away for a moment, Kaji,” she finally said, a hint of amusement in her voice, but also a clear request.
"One moment?!" Kaji made a helpless gesture towards the two. "I came in here to live, not to die, damn it!"
Dabi laughed softly, a dark, throaty sound that only made Kaji angrier. "Well, you should have knocked then."
Kaji glared at his father with a mixture of anger and absolute horror. "Knock?! I still live here!" he hissed, throwing his arms in the air in a desperate gesture.
He turned on his heel and stomped towards the stairs, but his voice didn't stop. "Honestly, this isn't normal! You're my parents! I should come home, have some damn peace and not— EH!" He threw his hands over his face as if that would drive the burning images out of his head.
"At least a warning! A sign on the door! Warning! Don't come in, we're fucking it like rabbits!" He gesticulated wildly, the indignation evident in every movement. "But no! Of course not! Instead I'm going to burst into the middle of a scene that will haunt me forever! And then I'm supposed to leave as if nothing had happened?!"
His steps quickened, his heart still racing, as he staggered up the stairs. "I need therapy. Holy shit, I need a lot of therapy!"
With a loud bang, the door to his room slammed shut, and then... silence.
Dabi listened amusedly to the chaos Kaji had left behind before his gaze slid back to Rain. His grin grew wider, darker, as he gripped her legs tighter again and pulled her against him.
"Well," he murmured harshly, his breath hot on her neck. "Now that he's gone..."
Rain placed a hand on his neck, her lips brushing his ear.
"Then go on."
Dabi's lips curled into a dark grin as he slid agonizingly slowly, almost out of her. His fingers dug lightly into her skin. His breath was hot against her lips as he murmured softly, almost commandingly:
"Say that again."
Rain trembled slightly, her fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer as her lips touch against his. Her voice was a sensual whisper, a command and a request at the same time.
"go on."
Her words hit him like fire and without further warning he rammed into her again with full force. A strangled sound escaped Rain and she threw her head back as her fingers pulled at his hair.
"Say it again, Rain," he demanded, his tone blazing like the flames burning within him. "Say it again."

"My name is Kaji Black."
"I am the son of the blue flame, Dabi, and the bearer of the frozen fire."

"Loyal only to those who are important to me. Merciless to everyone else."
Account Info
World of My Hero Academia / Boku no Hero Academia
This is a small RP and question blog about my OC Kaji. A lot of people run accounts like this with canon characters created by Hori and I thought, why don't I try Kaji?
Yeah, okay, Kaji is a fan character I created, but that should work too. Or not?
This is my second account. My main account is @lura-valentine
Rules and Hints
I think you know the name Knigge, so I don't have to explain to you what politeness and respect mean.
No Proshipping
Flirting is acceptable as long as the character is the same age as Kaji.
No sexual texts, Kaji is 16 (Admin is 21+)
The blog takes place well after the end of the war. Kaji was born eight months after the war and never met his father, Touya. (If you can accept that Kaji fell into a time hole, he could also exist before the end of the war.)
Kaji inherited a lot from his father, including a fiery temperament. Therefore, he may have a sharp tongue when he is upset.
If you need to be disrespectful in RP because it's in your character's nature, write it down //😊 or something.
Character Info
Name: Kaji (火児 - Firechild)
Appearance:
Kaji is almost a carbon copy of his father Touya and resembles him except for his hair. He has Touya's turquoise blue eyes and his mother's black hair, but he has a single white strand of hair that comes from Touya's influence. Like his mother, Kaji has black wings, but they shimmer in blue.
Quirk name: Ice Phoenix
Quirk description:
Kaji's Quirk was created through a rare genetic cross between his parents' two Quirks and the specific genetic predisposition from Touya's bloodline.
He has the extraordinary ability to create flames that radiate extreme cold and have nothing to do with heat. These bluish-white flames are so cold that they can freeze anything they touch in a matter of seconds. His "fire" drains all heat from the surroundings and can even neutralize heat sources by freezing them.
Other information
Family: Kaji is the son of Rain (OC) and Dabi/Touya.
Personality:
Kaji is composed in nature and often presents a calm and controlled outer facade. Kaji is intelligent and strategic in his thinking, often keeping long-term goals in mind. Although Kaji usually remains composed, he has a very short nerve when it comes to provocation. When someone he is friends with is insulted or threatened, he becomes cold and ruthless in such moments, taking full pride in his Quirk. He shows no tolerance for attacks on his family and often reacts in such moments without regard for consequences.
OC Lore
Kaji Black was conceived shortly before the so-called Final War - one of the most decisive moments in the history of heroes and villains. At that time, his mother, Rain Black, was still closely connected to the League of Villains. But a private matter forced her to return to Europe.
As she was planning to return to the League's ranks to support Touya (Dabi) and the others, a fateful discovery changed everything: she was pregnant. Rain knew she had to protect her unborn child, so she decided to stay in Europe.
A painful thought accompanied her throughout her pregnancy - she did not know whether Touya or Keigo (Hawks) was the father, as she had been in a relationship with both men during that time. But when Kaji was born and Rain held him in her arms for the first time, the answer was obvious. His deep turquoise eyes and the characteristic snow-white streak of hair revealed without a doubt that Touya Todoroki was his father.
Kaji's childhood was carefree, marked by curiosity, energy and a constant desire to explore the world. He was a lively child who was deeply impressed by his uncle Ryen, the leader of the Black Wings. For Kaji, Ryen was a shining example - a man of impressive discipline, stoic calm and an almost unshakeable control, even in the most chaotic situations.
Ryen, whose Quirk "Thunderbird" gave him electrical powers, was the electrical counterpart of his sister Rain, who fought with her dark red flames. Together they led the Black Wings, an organization officially dedicated to rescuing and caring for orphans. But behind this facade, the Black Wings worked as mercenaries to finance the costs of their orphanage.
When Kaji was old enough, he began training to become a mercenary - a harsh and unforgiving lesson in the gray area between heroes and villains. He quickly learned that mercenaries were often viewed as dishonorable opportunists who walked the fine line between light and darkness. But for Kaji, the Black Wings were more than just a unit. They became his family - a dysfunctional, chaotic community held together by the strength of his uncle and mother.
But life as a mercenary was not without sacrifices. Kaji's faith in the loyalty of his unit was shaken in the hardest way when two of his closest comrades betrayed him. The betrayal targeted his life, and Kaji was forced to make a decision that would change him forever. In order to survive, he had to kill the two traitors.
This painful experience left a deep mark on him. From that moment on, Kaji changed - his lively, open personality was replaced by a stoic reserve. He began to take on strong characteristics of his father Touya: a man who went through life with a closed facade and controlled emotions.
But despite this change, one thing remained the same: Kaji's unwavering loyalty to his family. The Black Wings are his home, and Kaji would do anything to protect those he cares about - even if it means encasing his own heart in ice.

@dabiboy since the small fic about little Kaji drawing when his dad came home, I haven't been able to get it out of my mind ❤️
Also, sorry for the white hair, I did try the black but it didn't sit right (no idea why, I'll blame a tired brain)

Oh my god, this is a great OC, even if Hawk's wings don't quite fit in logically. Along with phoenixes, dragons are my absolute favorite mythical creatures.❤️
It's an absolute honor that you're drawing Kaji with your OC. The Ice Phoenix and the Dragon. That sounds like a strong Cousin / half-brother team💪
Maybe your OC will make it into my fanfictions. Let's see if I can think of something good.
Unfortunately I just need to make one thing clear. Kaji didn't inherit the wings from Hawks, but from his mother Rain (my other OC.) Rain's quirk is based on the mythical fire of a phoenix, which is why Kaji's flames were genetically possible in the first place. Mytic fire can take on all colors and specific properties. (That's my way of thinking anyway.)
I always admire MHA OC’s who have children. Especially with either Hawks or Dabi. @kaji-todoroki is a really cool character if you think about it. His fire quirk that FREEZES!? Like come on! That’s pretty dope if you ask me :) Anyways! I really wanted to draw him with my OC’s child. -They are NOT in the same universe, I just wanted to draw them. That’s all- His name is Ao Todoroki. He did inherit Dabi’s quirk for sure but also his mother’s quirk which is reptile (more specifically dragon). He also inherited Hawks’ Fierce Wings through genetic modification when he was an unborn child at the time. You can blame the Safety Commission’s underlings who turned rogue.

Kaji Black (Todoroki) - OC Fact
Enji Todoroki
World of My Hero Academia / Boku no Hero Academia
Fan lore after the conclusion of the manga/anime story
With the exception of Kaji and Rain, all characters belong to Kōhei Horikoshi
Kaji is my OC ➡️ click her for Kaji's Profil ⬅️
Rain is my OC ➡️ click her for Rain's Profil ⬅️
Please note that English is not my first language. So forgive me for mistakes.
Enji deeply regrets his mistakes, but people don't change internally so easily. He doesn't show it on the outside, but deep inside the desire for the perfect fire quark is still anchored in him.
When Kaji came into Enji's life at the age of 16, his mistakes and regrets burst out of him, but it also caused old patterns to resurface within him. He quickly began to view Kaji as both an accidental success and a failure of his wish.
Why Enji sees Kaji as a success:
Quirk Potential: Kaji possesses an incredibly powerful Quirk, "Ice Phoenix", which combines Rain's Quirk and Touya's bloodline. While his flames are cold and can freeze anything, the combination of fire and ice provides a creative versatility that sets him apart. Unlike Shoto's Half-Cold-Half-Hot, where there is a clear separation between fire and ice powers, Kaji's abilities flow seamlessly together.
Strength and Talent: With his quirk, Kaji demonstrates exceptional strength and natural talent. These qualities correspond to Enji's idea of a born hero and give him hope that Kaji could become a shining star in the hero world.
Family Line: For Enji, Kaji is proof that his vision of a "perfect Quirk" is possible.
Why Enji sees Kaji as a failure:
False Fire: Kaji's flames are powerful, but contradict Enji's ideal of "pure" firepower. Enji had envisioned a successor that would prevent overheating without losing the intensity or heat of the fire. Kaji's flames are so cold that they are more like ice - a constant reminder that Kaji's Quirk is not what Enji was originally looking for.
Touya: Every time Kaji fails to meet Enji's expectations or contradicts him, he not only realizes Kaji's independence, but also feels the shadows of his failure with Touya. For Enji, Kaji is a reminder of what could have been if he had acted differently in the past. This legacy weighs on Enji and reinforces the conflict between pride and frustration he feels toward his grandson.
Lack of Control: Like Touya, Kaji has a rebellious streak that reminds Enji of the challenges he had with his own son. Kaji acts according to his own principles and shows little interest in achieving Enji's vision, which represents a failure for Enji.

Scared of a little thunder ?
Kaji was excited as ever. It was the first time he invited friends to sleep at his house. Little Kyoko was on her way, and they were just starting to play together after school, but already they were inseparable. Little Miharu was not like the other girls: she liked to play evil pranks, catch frogs in the pond and her knees were always covered with scrapes. She was fun ! She was not afraid of anything !
When Kaji's mom greeted Kyoko's, they talked for a moment, but the kids didn't really care and went straight to the bedroom where Kaji wanted to show Kyoko his new toy.
" I asked mom how a kiss can give a baby, announced Kaji while playing. - Oh ?! And what did she say ?! - Dunno. I didn't understand... But it does seem complicated. - Mh ! Mommy said that too. She couldn't tell, affirmed Kyoko. "
Then, they came to the conclusion that the whole baby-making theory was too complicated and that it was an adult case. It wasn't really important for now. They just played for hours and went to the park together when finally, Kaji's mother asked them to come back and eat some dinner. Taking care of one kid was exhausting, but two of them alone ?! It was a miracle.
The two children laughed and while they watched a cartoon. Kaji's mother watched them from afar, a tender smile on her lips and engraving this image of her son in her memory because there would come a day when he would be an adult.
And when it was finally time to go to bed, they settled into the same bed and fell asleep extremely quickly, both tired from their day of running and laughing. It was then that a bright light invaded the room, making every shadow cast on the wall by a stuffed animal or by the simplest of toys look threatening. Kaji was sleeping peacefully, the sound of the rain not disturbing him. Kyoko, on the other hand, was startled when the storm began to shake.
Nervously, she clenched her hands on the blanket. It was when the second thunderclap sounded that she clasped both hands over her ears and got off the bed. She continued to place her hands over her ears, but the violence of the thunder was so powerful that it made her whole body shake.
A few minutes later, Kaji dozed and opened his eyes. He was thirsty after eating a ton of candy. He lazily jumped up from his bed and rubbed his eyes. He then saw Kyoko curled up against the edge of the bed, her head between her knees and shaking like a leaf that he started asking questions. " Kyo?" Kaji yawned. Whatcha you doing? "
The little girl looked up at Kaji with wet eyes. He blinked, still a little sleepy, not realizing yet that his friend had a phobia of storms. The little girl was about to answer when a lightning tore the sky again. Kyoko tensed and closed her eyes tightly, shaking like hell.
"Nothing! Nothing!" Kyoko insisted, keeping her eyes closed. - Are you afraid of the storm ? Kaji asked. - I'm not afraid of anything!" said the little girl almost crying. "
Another thunderclap erupted, this time closer. Kyoko cowered further. Kaji blinked several times before disappearing. Thinking she had no more attention from him, Kyoko tried to calm down again when she felt something on her head. Kaji had just wrapped her in his starry blanket.
Kyoko slowly opened her eyes and Kaji sat in front of her, also with his head under the blanket. He smiled at her, still a little lazily, but his eyes were kind and patient. He wanted to help.
"You know how after the storm, the sky is very clear? You can see the stars there."
This time it was Kyoko's turn to blink. She had taken her hands away from her ears to listen to her friend talk, but her tremors still lingered a little.
"That's why I don't mind the storm. Right after, we look at the sky and trace the stars with our fingers. - With your mom?" asked Kyoko innocently. "
Kaji hesitated for a moment and then nodded.
"Aren't you afraid that the sky will fall on your head one day? - It's held up so far, it'll hold up a little longer! Come on! "
Without further ado, Kaji took Kyoko's hand, who hesitated and finally let herself be led to the window. They kept the blanket over their heads and the little girl was still shaking her legs. Kaji put his forehead against the window and finally smiled. He then pointed to the first star in the sky and began to describe them. That night, Kyoko learned new names and didn't hate thunder as much as before.
Bonus : Years passed and even at twenty-two, Kyoko was still nervous when she heard the storm. Kaji was working late tonight but he still had a great view of the city from his window. Seeing the rain falling heavily, he stretched and sent a message to Kyoko, knowing too well that she must not be totally serene: "I'll invite you. The sky will be clear tonight." Receiving this simple message as she left work gave Kyoko a little smile. He always knew what to say.

Come on... call me Kaji and not kid.
But seriously... I hope you makes him suffer for everything he did to us.
//I'll try to adapt to your Dabi, but it could also be fun if the two of them argue a bit. Let's see what all happens😊
You are father 👀
What? What the hell does this mean? Put those peepers away.
I ain’t anyone’s father, and I sure as hell won’t make a good one anyway.
I’ll just assume you had a stroke mid-sentence n’ we’ll act like this never happened.

Having a baby sister
" So... This is it then ? That's a baby ? asked Kaji. - Yes ! Mommy says she will grow. "
Kaji and Kyoko were in front of the crib of the new arrival in the Miharu family: Kichi. Sleeping and wrapped in lace, she looked like a doll. Only her breathing betrayed her.
Perplexed, the two children considered the baby.
" But... How did your mommy and daddy got it ? asked Kaji. - Well... It was fast ! Mommy said to daddy "it's time ! it's time !" and then, they went to the hospital and piou."
Kaji raised an eyebrow, even more confused than ever. He imitated Kyoko's "piou" with his water bomb gesture falling to the ground and she replied in the same way to confirm his words.
"And then ? - And then she was there!" showed the little girl with both hands. Red and crying, she wanted to sleep and poop. - That's all ? She can do only THAT ? Boring... "
And suddenly, panic seized Kyoko. Kichi had just woken up. The baby started to wince and quickly Kyoko put her hands over her ears. It didn't take long for Kaji to understand. It was a real flood of tears that began to rain and not to forget the cries that went with it. Kaji followed Kyoko and raised his voice to make himself heard:
"How do you turn it off?! - I don't know! You're the one who woke her up! You told her she was bowwing, and now she's upset! - I can't hear you, what did you say? "
The baby's crying continued and Kaji and Kyoko were enduring a hurricane. It was then that Kaji remembered what his father used to do when he was a baby. He told him that he used to light up his fingers and that it made him laugh. Maybe it would work with little Kichi... Even if it wasn't fire.
He then approached the cradle and opened his five fingers in front of the baby, making five small smoke columns appear. Kyoko watched the scene with curiosity and soon the baby felt the wet heat. He clenched her little fists with all of her strength and gradually became calm again. Amazed, Kyoko looked at Kaji in silence. A victorious smile appeared on the little boy's face.
"You like that, huh? Maybe you're not just good at sleeping and pooping after all! "
The baby then began to try to grab Kaji's fingers. Quickly, he put off one finger so as not to hurt Kyoko's little sister. Kichi grabbed it and squeezed with all her strength. Kaji let out an "oh" and played with it.
"Look Kyoko: she's calm now! Having a baby sister is awesome when you know how to turn it off ! "

Thank you for the truth
" Kaji, what happened to your cheek ? "
No "hello", no "how are you". Whenever something was wrong, Kyoko had to be frank. That morning, at Oridera College, students were starting their last semesters before the vacations that would separate them from high school. The most ambitious ones were talking about joining the heroes' academy. However today, the subject seemed to put Kaji in a bad mood.
The class still had a few minutes before the teacher arrived to call the roll. When Kaji didn't answer, Kyoko rolled her eyes. Fifteen years old and already a pig temper. Was it... puberty ?
"Nothing," he replied, looking out the window. - Did you burn yourself again? - Observant," Kaji quipped. "
Kyoko frowned at her friend's tone with her.
She was really worried about him, but for a while now, his mood had been getting worse and worse and he would lash out whenever a word was spoken to him. All of a sudden, "steam-boy" had become even more unbearable than usual. The class began, during which nothing very interesting happened. In the last few minutes, however, the subject of orientation came up. The teacher reminded the class that all applications for high schools should be sent in, especially for the more selective ones like U.A. When he finished his speech and left the class, the chatter started again :
" Do you think you have a chance ? U.A. is a must for becoming a hero, especially with the famous 1.A. of the Endeavor and League of Villains era at its peak! said one of the students. - You never know. Anyway, if it's to kick their asses, then I'll go all out! - That's right. We have fewer and fewer superheroes to put them behind bars. - My mom went through the All for One attack. Because of villains, she can't leave her house without shaking," said a girl in the class. - I'm sorry Himiko... We better all go to U.A. then! - And the worst of all is definitely this guy... Dabi. Seriously, he had some really shitty motives. Boo hoo, my father neglected me so I'm taking it out on the whole world? Yamato spat out with disdain. "
For a second, Kyoko felt like a fire started right next to her. Quick as lightning, Kaji grabbed Yamato by the collar and coldly slammed him against the wall behind him.
"KAJI ! - You shouldn't talk about things you don't know," he said with a terrifying coldness. "
The whole class was shocked. Even Yamato, who was holding Kaji's arm as best he could, didn't think he would ever see "steam-boy" attacking him like that.
"What do you care, Kaji? It's not like you're planning to become a hero yourself! Some people have ambition. "
Kaji gritted his teeth and his arm slowly began to give off significant heat. Yamato let go of him with a groan of pain, unable to bear it. The shy and aloof boy now had all eyes on him but he didn't seem to realize it, blinded by anger. Then Kyoko intervened. She grabbed his wrist and with a grip, she made him let go Yamato who fell heavily on his buttocks. Before Kaji could say anything, he was dragged out of the classroom.
He was about to protest when a smell stung his nose. He looked down at Kyoko's hand as she pressed on, realizing with horror that her skin was literally burning her palm. His face lost some of the rage that agitated him and he calmed his quirk.
"Kyo- - Shut up," the teenager replied without turning around, still tracing her path until she reached an empty classroom. "
She slammed the door behind her and let go of Kaji, paying no attention to the blisters in the palm of her hand. He had calmed down slightly but she could see he was still wound up after what Yamato and the others had just said.
"Speak now," she ordered. Something is wrong, I can see it! Yamato has always been a jerk but to physically attack him is completely crazy. - You think I don't know that... - Kaji I was blaming it on the end of the year but right now you're hurting yourself and shutting down. If you have to deal with something then fine but don't walk away ! "
Kaji didn't dare to look Kyoko in the eyes anymore. After the rage came the anger and shame. When he quickly inspected his burned hand, he was instantly consumed by remorse. He felt so bad that he shyly grabbed her and applied his own palm to hers, this time releasing cold to soothe her. A silence fell between the two friends.
" Do you share his opinion ? Yamato's who said Dabi was..."
Kaji stopped talking, gritting his teeth once again. Kyoko waited, but when she realized he couldn't do it, she slid her other hand down his cheek, making him blush slightly, to encourage him to get it off his chest. He took a deep breath and found the calm voice she knew :
" That he had shitty motivations, he finally said. Do you think that too? - I am not so altruistic to say that I understand... she confided. But it's true that he had no right to judge... After all, we don't know this "Dabi". He did some things... Terrible, but in his place, would Yamato have been different ? - Do you really think so ? - Have I ever lied to you? Kyoko replied with a smile. "
Without knowing it, Kyoko had put her finger on something crucial. Indeed, she had always been honest with Kaji and shared absolutely everything with him but he was different. Kyoko was able to follow his mood swings with a glance but it took a moment before she could put words to his thoughts. So far it was working perfectly. But was it a lie not to say anything? His face seemed to twist with sadness and without warning, Miharu took Kaji in her arms. They were no longer children, and he was beginning to grow taller and taller than her, so she almost stood on her tiptoes. Surprised, he didn't dare to move but after a moment of hesitation, Kaji returned her embrace and hid his face in her neck, whispering his biggest secret:
"Dabi is my father. "
Kaji was unable to see his friend's reaction. The only thing he knew for sure was that her embrace had just tightened.

Mirko number one fan
Every child had a favorite hero. It started early.
Even after the disasters with the fall of All Might, the Hawks and Endeavor scandal and the villains' prison breaks, you couldn't take away a child's hero.
Kaji loved Endeavor and followed the exploits of the new Deku from afar. Kyoko listened to him talk about the number one fighter's fiery fists and get excited by imitating him with a big smile on her face.
" And when he launches his ultimate attack, the bad guys fly and bam ! Kyoko ? Are you even listening to me when I talk to you ? "
On their way home, the schoolchildren stopped dead in front of a store. The televisions behind the glass were broadcasting a live report of a bank robbery. A dozen or so armed men with technology were about to take their loot when suddenly two of them were thrown into the air. Soon, all of them were simply knocked out, leaving their bags full of money on the ground.
" Oh, it's Mirko," recognized Kaji. You- - She's so cool ! Kyoko exclaimed with stars in her eyes, her fists clenched at her heart. Did you see how she came ?! She jumped on the bad guys and knocked them down and look how badass she is ! And I love her ears, it's so cute ! Kaji, have you seen her ears ? "
Kaji looked at her friend with round eyes. It was the first time in his life that he saw her so excited for heroes ! She didn't have the goodies, she never personalized her notebooks with moons, but the next morning at school, Kyoko proudly displayed a Mirko keychain, hero number 5 of Japan.

CH. 7
Once again, Heisuke had just fallen asleep on a notebook in his small kitchen.
His table was laden with all kinds of detritus, from cans to spilled cans, dripping with unidentified liquid. He lived alone and wasn't a big fan of housekeeping, and why should he be? He hated this place.
Heisuke tried to dream, to remember the last time he had felt at home, protected and not fighting in the corner of an alley, showing his fangs like a stray dog to keep his piece of food. He remembered his mother's hand, pressed against his nose and mouth and holding his head underwater. Heisuke remembered the suffocation, the need to breathe, but the water was already in his lungs.
He also remembered the awakening of his quirk-muscles, the pain he felt as they began to cover his six-year-old arms. Heisuke dreamed of the night his mother had called him a monster.
" It will be a service to humanity to make you disappear. " her voice echoed in his head.
It drummed, amplified in a whirlwind when he finally woke up. Heisuke's eyes shone with a wet glow. He tried to catch his breath, but he couldn't. He knew only too well what was happening to him: a panic attack.
Heisuke fell from his chair and instinctively crawled against the wall in front of him. He pressed his back against it, drops of sweat beading on his back. Soon, it was his forehead that was dripping with sweat. He trembled, his fist tightened. Then the muscles began to cover his hand. The terror was soon replaced by intense rage. He then gave a huge blow against the wall behind him, and it fell into dust. But did Heisuke care? No. As if this gesture filled with rage had injected him with a calming effect, he gradually recovered his breath. Then he looked at his fist and grumbled. Muscles glistening in places like diamonds had covered the entirety of his fist. He had activated his quirk without really realizing it.
After blowing for a long time, the young teenager closed his eyes.
He deactivated his quirk and his face became more peaceful. He held his hand to his heart and was almost revolted at the feeling of losing control. Furthermore, he had just demolished a wall and for what? For a simple nightmare!
"You fool," Heisuke growled as he took his head in his hands. "
A cracking sound reached his ears. Heisuke looked up at the ceiling to see part of it collapsing.
He almost jumped when he heard the rain suddenly pouring into his kitchen, quickly drowning his belongings.
"Idiot," Heisuke repeated, now furious because he had just demolished his apartment! "
"You look like you slept under a bridge," Kaji threw out. "
And indeed, there was nothing to be proud of about his condition.
Heisuke looked like he had spent the night under a bridge judging by the smell of his soaked clothes and the dark circles under his eyes. He wore a grumpy expression and grumbled at his lawyer's comment, placing his hands behind his head.
"What if it was? he said forcefully. It's not like it can do anything at this point! I just have to study to take the U.A. entrance exam and you guys are in charge of the presentation to keep me out of jail. "
"Stop with the bad boy attitude," Kaji ordered dryly but with a hint of recoil. Something happened last night, huh? How do you expect me to help you look presentable in the eyes of society if you show up in front of the judges like that? They'll see another street kid to send to jail and they'll be happy. Why don't you start by telling me why you're carrying around a bag of stuff with you? "
Heisuke frowned and looked away shamefully.
There was, indeed, lying against the counter of the dinner, a backpack containing some clothes and books he had managed to save from the previous day's flood. Kaji was not stupid. He had read the file of the young midshipman at U.A. He had come a long way, he knew that now... It was not a reason to be sentimental, he had to remain impartial... But to know that he had been victimized by the hand of his own mother had plunged Kaji into a cold anger. So he was all the more eager to help him, and he wasn't the only one.
"I destroyed my squat..." muttered Heisuke in shame. "
"You did what?... asked Kaji, afraid he didn't understand. "
"I destroyed my squat! The young teenager snarled. "
Some customers then turned to the two men.
Kaji signaled to Heisuke to lower his voice slightly. Heisuke's face did not show the slightest bit of pride, however.
"I... I activated my quirk without paying attention and destroyed my apartment. "
"How can you activate a quirk without paying attention? No, never mind... Kaji said to herself, running her hand over her face. "
Heisuke interpreted this as shame on the part of his lawyer. He became even angrier, but before he could say anything, Kaji interrupted him.
"You're going to come to my house. "
Time seemed to stand still. Had Heisuke heard correctly? Kaji had thrown this out as if it were a natural act. The words were stuck in the back of his throat. Before he could reply, Kaji said.
"I have to keep an eye on you, but I warn you, at the slightest broken glass, you get the hell out, and I'll give up your business, understand? "
This was of course an empty threat. Kaji obviously wanted to keep an eye on his client, but he also wanted, like Kyoko, to put him back on the right track. He certainly wasn't going to defend him, win and let him go as if nothing had happened! There was a conflict in him. He knew he had to be professional, but it was difficult for a first case. How did the others do it?

CH. 6
" On a scale of one to ten, how attractive do you think I am ? asked Shin with a pen between his lips and nose.
- A solid I don't give a fuck, replied a focus Heisuke. "
Kyoko hit him with a folded newspaper.
The U.A. entrance exam was about to begin and Heisuke's trial three days before. He had never been so focused on his life. He had totally deserted the street, to the great pleasure of Kyoko who was using her free time to bring him up to speed. She had never had the vocation to be a teacher, but with a little effort and by helping Kichi, her little sister, she had seen clear progress in a few weeks.
Shin, on the other hand, was a different story.
He had a good level, not having been dropped out of school, but he was sorely lacking in concentration. Where he got the money to pay the exam fees was a mystery. On the bright side, he didn't look like a bad kid.
" The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems," he said for no apparent reason.
- Are you trying to test my patience?" Heisuke asked with a tight smile.
- Of course I am. Why would I even be here if not to test you? A hero should always be tested under pressure. That's why he is always efficient during crisis!
- Shin, you are provoking a crisis right here, right now. The only for you to prevent it is to shut the hell up, replied Heisuke.
- I hope Kaji is having the time of his life right now... sighed Kyoko. "
- - -
" With all due respect, sir, I think that in view of the evidence, we can't send a child to prison because the DNA has spoken," Kaji decided harshly but respectfully.
- The reputation of this firm is at stake in this case. Don't forget that. If the press were to find out that we were defending offenders from the worst villains in the country, the scandal would be too much to handle. "
Kaji's urge to throw out "bullshit" was inversely proportional to the amount of hair his boss still had on his head. As good as he could be in his business, he had to admit that it was a first. He kept his composure and resumed:
"Even if my evidence is sufficient?
- Even if the evidence is fair. You rely on the testimony of passers-by, scum and extremists to defend a delinquent?
- A police officer will vouch for his surveillance. His quirk will be kept under close surveillance in the U.A. Aren't these sufficient guarantees for you?
- IF he passes the exam. Not everyone can become a hero, or they would know. "
Kaji restrained himself from making a bitter remark. He had admired the hero system as a child, but having learned about all the vices behind it, could he really say that he believed in it?
"Freelance then. Erase my name from the records and thus yours. Tanaka-san, you can do it, I know you can, it wouldn't be the first time. "
Kaji's boss widened his eyes. He stood up and quietly closed his office door so that no one would hear him. He then looked at Kaji from behind. The young lawyer heard his boss's snake tongue click on his lips.
"How do you know...
- It's possible. Let me present the evidence to the jury. No involvement, no scandal, your precious reputation preserved and a kid who finally has a chance at a future. And in a few years, when he's out of the U.A. and a hero in the eyes of society, your name will come up and you'll be able to brag about how you always supported him. What do you say, Tanaka-san?"
Tanaka seemed to weigh the pros and cons.
His years of experience had certainly not prepared him for a youngster straight out of the cradle to negotiate with him as a businessman would. He hissed snake-like one last time and settled back at his desk, signing an authorization and handing it to Kaji.
"Not a word to anyone. Even the kid won't have to mention your name. Make him sign a confidentiality clause if you have to, I don't care. Just win this case and don't mention it again.
- Thank you, Tanaka-san. "
Kaji bowed respectfully and took the paper before leaving the office. Once out of sight, he ran a hand over his forehead and let out a sigh of relief. To be honest, it had all been a giant bluff.
But still, the fact that his boss responded to this threat disgusted him. Was his job as corrupt as hero's ?

CH. 5
"One day Kaji. You said one day, not six hours.
- Are you complaining? Besides, who says I had anything to do with it? "
He handed her a coffee. Kyoko had just emerged. She was still a little tired, but Kaji was watching her from the corner of his eye. At the hospital, they would have kept her for 24 hours for observation, but he had her covered. Her job would have been done if it had been known that she had investigated on her own without the authorization of her superiors. Fortunately for her and to limit potential problems, she had not used her quirk.
" I'm not going to ask you..." she sighed and grimaced, putting her hand on her shoulder. I didn't want you to go alone. Look how smart I look now.
- A real genius. But you're the one who decided to knock on my door so take your responsabily, Kaji smirked. "
Kyoko smirked in return, her eyes in Kaji's. A part of her suspected what was going to happen. Underneath his workaholic, asthmatic, short-sighted and withdrawn lawyer looks, there was something else in him.
" Thank you for being here... whispered Kyoko.
- What was that ? I can't hear ya.
- Thank you for being here ! Having my back and everything. I know you don't like heroes and heroes-like.
- I signed up for Heisuke's case, nothing more. The rest is on your hands, that's your job. And part of it is also to stay alive.
- I don't promise anything, but I'll try my best, said Kyoko with a smirk. "
Kaji rolled his eyes.
"Sleep. You look like crap," Kaji then ordered. "
He stood up and before leaving, noted something he didn't like. He pushed Kyoko's hair behind her back and frowned. The gesture startled her, but she didn't say anything. She was slightly burned, and he recognized that kind of injury.
"Sleep," he punctuated one last time. "
He didn't even give her time to answer as he closed the door of the room behind him. Kyoko probably hadn't seen the state of her back yet, but the pain was there judging by her ache. He took out his cell phone and seemed to hesitate for a moment. This was not the time to lose focus. He had to concentrate on Heisuke's case. Moreover, unlike his friend, he had not signed up to get involved in stories of heroes and villains. No thanks, he'd leave that to the relevant departments and, somewhat by default, to the still-active heroes.
"Kaji-san? Is Miharu-san here because of me?"
Kaji then looked up at the young teenager with blonde hair. He had calmed down and let Shin pig out in the living room, but he still seemed a little tense. They glared at each other for a moment and Kaji sighed, running a hand through his hair and putting his phone away.
"It's her job to investigate. Don't let this go messing with that little head of yours.
- I know, but I'm... I'm ashamed," Heisuke said, looking away. People have always looked at me badly because of my parents. To say that it's because of them that I turned out like this is embarrassing. I barely know them, and it's like they've been ruining my life forever, and Miharu-san's by extension. "
Everything about Heisuke exuded shame, from his bowed head to his fists clenched into white. Kaji might be a lawyer, but he could sound very sharp in his words. He seemed to think for a moment and was tempted to hand the young teenager over to Kyoko, but then thought about it. Why had he become a lawyer in the first place ? When did he get the urge to help people, especially children ? Heisuke was like him except that he was not lucky enough to have an awesome mother and a decent father, although he was often absent due to his activity.
"We don't do this to have a quiet life, Kyoko and I. We do this because it's what any decent human would do. When Kyoko saw you in that interrogation room, handcuffed like a future convict, do you think she called me out of the goodness of her heart? No, she called me because it was the natural thing to do. I'm not going to lie to you: it won't be easy, but it could be worse. What I can assure you though, is that you will never be alone again. Kyoko has already paid for you to take the U.A. entrance exam, she wouldn't do that if she didn't believe in you. "
The announcement shook Heisuke, like a train being launched at full speed. His eyes widened, and he looked at Kaji in shock. The lawyer smirked at the young boy's expression.
"She has... Really? What if I screw up?
- Don't screw up," Kaji replied.
- But what if I screw up?!
- Don't screw up, Kaji repeated. You better get used to it. This is what it feels like to be a hero. People put their trust in you. "
Heisuke wasn't nervous anymore, he just smiled like crazy now.
He was proud and excited. At least now he knew what he was getting into.
" Watch me then. I'm gonna be fucking amazing. "
And with those nice words, Heisuke returned to the living room where he would go to study with Shin. Kaji only hoped he hadn't lit a flame that would get out of control.
