Don't listen
To your parents
They don't know what it's like
When the shadows
Start a'dancing
And the moon is too bright
And we sirens
Start a'singing
Our sweet melodies
Come closer, come closer-
Come listen to me
Poem Prompt - Lullaby
Hush now
my children
it will be alright
Nothing
can hurt you
while I’m by your side
Continue this lullaby in your own way.
Maybe you can even spin a story around it?

It was like there was a drum. Boom. Boom. Steady. Boom. Boom. Harsh. Boom. Boom. Loud. BOOM. BOOM. Faster. Fwoosh, BOOM. BOOM. Fwoosh, BOOM. BOOM. Oh, gods. Fwoosh, BOOM. BOOM. Fwoosh, BOOM. BOOM. No, no, no, no- no. No. NO. Fwoosh, BOOM. BOOM. Fwoosh, BOOM. BOOM. NO. NO. NO.
Your awareness- sound- sound is gone. No sound. There's no more sound. Just pain. All you hear is pain. All you see is pain. Pain and blood. Everywhere. Blood is everywhere. Slip, slip, slipping- you're slipping. Everything is slipping and there's nothing you can do but watch her slip and fade and why. Can't. You. Do. Anything. Ohhhhh. No. No, no, no. Oh, no. This is it, isn't it. She's going to die and they're all going to be dead and it's. All. Your. Fault. Just- why couldn't you listen? Just this once, why?
Snap. Twig? You think, but your reaction is sluggish. You're cold. Huh. You're cold? But you were just so warm and- oh. The blood is starting to cool- she's colder- and you know. Oh, you know. And it hurts.
"What happened?" You hear, from far away. How long have you been here, you wonder. You turn your hands over, palms up. There's dry spots. Flakes. This... Isn't real. It's not happening. It can't be happening, right?
"What happened?" You whisper to yourself. "What happened? What happened? What... Happened?" You blink. Dream, you think. It must be a dream. Must be. It's just- dream. Your dream-self aches. You want to wake up. You want to wake up, right now.
"What happened?" The creature asked, keeping a distance.
You- your dream-self- jumps at the sound of the voice. It's so loud- so real. You've never dreamt this vividly before. You don't want to ever again. Your body- no, not your body- your dream-self- she turns around, wiping at her tears. You can feel the blood mix with the tears and turn liquid, all over your- her- face. Her face is now covered in blood.
"You have to do something," she says quietly, almost inaudible over the sound of the waves and you want to scream at her. Tell her to stop talking, but she doesn't. "Please, I can't lose them." And it hurts like a white-hot knife to the chest, every single word a new wound. You can't breathe. Please.
"Little wolf, I can't bring them back to life." And oh, does that sting infinitely more. Little wolf, little lone wolf. Little lonely lone wolf with no pack left to turn to. She. You. Always you. It's always been you.
It would do you well to find the strength to be angry about this, you suppose, but your energy is gone. Your will is gone. Everything is gone- everything but the heartache.
You wish you'd never nursed that... that thing back to health. They warned you, didn't they? Your mother, your brother, your best friend- even... even- it- warned you.
You're not angry. You can't be angry. This? This is on you, which means there's nothing you can do- nothing to avenge, nothing to forgive. You're useless, just like you've always been, and the sorrow haunts you like the monster you are.
Please.
“What happened?” the creature asked, keeping a distance.
The woman jumped at the sound of the voice. She turned around, wiping at her tears. “You have to do something,” she said so quietly it almost wasn’t audible over the sound of the waves. “Please, I can’t lose them.”
“Little wolf, I can’t bring them back to life.”
She wasn’t angry, but the pure sorrow was haunting.

Pebble by pebble, stone by stone
All these bricks will build my throne
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Their iron will has turned to rust
They cave and crave and hunger for
Your rage they caged but nevermore
Their reign is ending, starve them out-
Hunger, rage; hunger, rage-
We'll starve them out.
Hunger // Rage
I write the title, you write the poem! Reblog with your piece :D
