unlike snivellous regulus actually got abused by his mother and got casted the crucio curse multiple times to make regulus obey walburag and snivilus isnt even confirmed to have abusiev or neglective parents....sirius almost died because snivellous casted the flipping spell that he made to curse sirius and peter....he also bullies barty and regulus and bullied remus for his dyslexia....thats why the marauders bullied him in the first place. james just used the spell against him in the books for revenge bceuz he used it on pete and sirius on the tree thing when remus and james werent looking...reggie got casted sectumsempra when james was gone and he also bullied nevile and harry... he was so obsessed with lily and lily wanted to die because of it. lily tried to kill herself and she forced herself with snivellus because she believed that snivvy would change...and wdym james was a sexual assaulter???????snivvy literally lifted lily's skirt and forced himself inside her......he was obsessed with lily...and when they broke off he used charity as a coping mechanism....minevra did nothing wrong she was fair unlike snivellous and for all i know severus chocked reggie once and james wanted to kill him thats why he bullied him in the first place. he shouldnt stick his greasy hair and ugly nose in the first place on sirius and remus conversation about the full moon...he should be glad that prongs saved him and regulus treated his scars even though snivellouse tried to kill him. snivellousse stole the marauders map for malicious resons and stalked lily... yu didnt read the books and use fanfics for prof....stop spreading misinformatio
I can't explain how wrong this is. Please tell me this is satire, or I will truly kms.
"Bullied Remus for his dyslexia." I think I have an idea on what fanfiction have you read. Please consider reading the real books and stop using ATYD along with other fanfiction to make this.
And are you on something...?

can you elaborate on the reasons ? what criticisms do you disagree with?
criticisms i disagree with:
"they character assassinated jane" amiguita there was no character to assisnate.
"they character assassinated dirk" dirk is at his most interesting and likeable ever and is just about the only redeeming thing about these
"they were just written to spite the fans" if true tht would have been Epic, and Based. but they very obviously werent
"its too violent and sexual for cheap shock humour" did you. read homestuck, the web comic? what were you Expecting... also like it or not the sexual content isnt just random or gratuitous it is obviously trying to be a conclusion to the whoel coming-of-age theme of homestuck as a work.
"so-and-so is out of character" homestuck characters are malleable little dolls that can be rearranged to suit the narrative at a whim. this is true about all fictional characters ofc but it is like explicitly textually metaphysically true in homestuck
my criticisms:
the heavy-handed political messaging is fucking tedious and awful and so profoundly of its time in a bad way. its clearly a reaction to trump but it doesnt have anything interesting to say about him or fascism or racism or anything, really, except, um. Cheeto in the white house?. the whole Evil Jane plot is too stupid and contrived for the sake of the satire to take seriously but also its awful satire written by liberals who think fascism as invented in 2016 by the orange man
god can we fucking talk about how fucking embarassing the obama shit is. jesus fucking christ. for a start it's a callback to a running jhoke in homestuck that is straight up just super racist. and they decide to pivot from the joke being 'its funny that theres a black president', which is good, but they pivot it to 'obama seems so heroic and magical now that we're stuck with the Orange Man', which, admittedly, is better than Being Racist, but also sucks shit. he killed people amiguitas.
'post-canon' is cheap bullshit. like, the work makes a big deal about tryng to talk about What Canon Is, without ever acknowledging the concept of, like, IP law. claiming to just be a non-canon continuation like any other when it's made by people with the Official Exclusive Legal Rights just feels hollow and detooths any liberatory/deconstructive potential there. unironically my opinion of it would go up like tenfold if it had been actually published in AO3 instead of just joking about it.
in general i think that all of the attempt to deconstruct fiction or storytelling is rooted in a really weird and flawed model of storytelling. a lot of it seems to be taking an extremely long route to writing something bad on purpose and then saying 'see, if you wrote something like this, it would be bad'. Okay. i like deconstructive collapsing narrative shit in e.g. if on a winter's night a traveller because i think calvino has trenchant and interesting insights about literature and storytelling. i do think hussie also has those but they essentially dropped and explored all of them in homestuck and the epilogues just seem like an attempt to connect ohomstuck's disparate and contradictory approaches to Narrative into one overarching schemata and then crtiique that schemata, which i think is a doomed project that results in little of interest to me.

I haven't posted here in a while because I've tried to stray from discourse for the sake of my health lately, but I really just need to talk about my hatred for the attitude that's been put forth re: the newly budding autoandrophile / forcemasc kink community on here.
it's absolutely ridiculous how many times I've seen people making fun of or treating this kink as though it's something unhealthy or dangerous - an attitude which conveniently does not carry over in regards to forcefem content. it's really just a microcosm of how a lot of other queer people view masculinity and ESPECIALLY trans masculinity as something frivolous and worthy of mockery. People saying that the kink and its community is "weird" and "dumb," which again, I have to note, is not something so uniformly believed about forcefem kinks!
This isnt me saying you can't dislike or be made uncomfortable by a kink. And before my words end up twisted, I am also not blaming transfems for any of this - my mention of forcefem and its wider reception from the queer community is only as a reference point as it relates to forcemasc. My issue is that once again, the queer community has seemingly found a socially acceptable way to mock trans masculinity once again, and as a trans guy it is really not fucking subtle what you guys are doing when you say some of the shit that gets said. The mockery and satirical fake posts, the way that every single time we find a new way to experience masculinity we just happen to be laughed at for it in a way that isn't TECHNICALLY transphobia so we can't actually be mad about it. I realize that kink is not above satire but really it feels fucking targeted when we already don't get taken seriously in literally any of our other endeavors.
a kink community on tumblr is not the end all be all of the transmasc community nor do I really think it has grave importance offline, sure, whatever, I must make a million disclaimers lest I be yet again branded as an overdramatic woman by people who are meant to be my peers. whatever. I really just wish that for once, for ONCE, we could have ONE thing that people actually respected enough for it not to be such a casual target of humor.

Pls block me I don't want to see your posts that talks about a personality trait that has history of child abuse. also, NPD is real and you're invalidating ACTUAL VICTIMS who was abused by people with narcissism. Which makes YOU a narcissist. Don't expect the whole Tumblr users to believe you. 😭
there's so much to unpack here. what are you fucking talking about. "npd is real" "which makes YOU a narcissist" YEAH? I KNOW? I HAVE NPD LMAO?
"please block me" motherfucker how about YOU block ME💀 do not put it on me to not interact with you (which btw who the fuck are you. you're on anon) when you're perfectly capable of hitting the block button on your own
"invalidating actual victims of abuse by people with narcissism" theres a high chance my abusive father had NPD. narc abuse still isnt real. cry about it
like genuinely please tell if this ask is meant to be satire because it's almost like you didnt read my blog at all

while we're talking about ofmd and race, i think there's a really interesting discussion to be had about how colorblind and color-conscious casting happens for historical content -- and the basis for why any of this is happening is that actors of color want to be able to engage with history in a way where they're not continually being asked to play slaves/servants/the singular empowered POC who dies tragically
and while money isnt being put toward stories centered on historical people of color with anywhere near the same frequency as white stories (Woman King was a huge breakaway from this where we actually had african-centered history that made it to white audiences) we're still talking about diasporic actors and writers of color whose families are rooted in the west and who grew up on western history. and on one level there's the instant recognition for these western stories by audiences (and recognition = less financial risk for producers) but on another level, POC want to have the same ability to play around with the historical contexts and stories they grew up seeing. and while people have their gripes with things like bridgerton (no media is without problems) it was a rare instance that let actors of color get to play the high society lords & ladies, have more screen time, and fundamentally get paid more for having a good time, and they're not being asked to engage with generational trauma
and i see ofmd on the other end of the spectrum from this where there was a deliberate choice made not to explain the casting & historical realities of slavery in any narrative sense -- it just is the way it is. so you have your options of 1) create an alternate timeline to explain the presence of POC in these roles and the reality of slavery (bridgerton), 2) dont explicitly explain the casting, dont change the reality of slavery, but weave in the commentary on the actors' races in a meta-textual, self-aware way (hamilton), and dont explain at all, just let things be (ofmd)
and the first two are conducive to drama with elements of comedy, but they're two very different genres from each other and extremely different from the conception of ofmd as a 20-minute-per-episode comedy. so you have a 1700s colorblind comedy that does not engage with the history of slavery -- actors and writers are able to play with the setting without switching genres, and the show is hugely successful
so the key question is: does this all meaningfully change the way that people then engage with the history of that time?
im not really concerned with discussions of "should [media] have been made" because it's here. it already exists. someone wanted to make it and audiences liked it enough to keep it around. im also not really concerned with the personal morality of media consumption, because again, the media exists and people are watching it without you. im asking if there is something like a "bridgerton effect" that distinctly alters people's perceptions of history itself because of the way a historical piece is satirized, modernized, played with, and reworked for modern audiences. and even then we can have another discussion on top of that on whether, if the answer is yes, this is the responsibility of the writers and creators, or of existing educational gaps. i think that's compelling and kind of the only thing that matters in these discussioms imo.

Sorry actually its been long enough now I need you all to see the shit that made me have a breakdown earlier this month because it's so. Twitter furry drama is so insular and chronically online and america centric it drives me nuts. never ever draw supermarkets as furries guys its not worth it bc holy fuck
Tumblr media
FOR THE MOST PART people were enjoying this esp british people but i genuinely lost mutuals & had people attack me for 'bootlicking corporations' and giving 'free advertising' for uh checks notes. drawing all the major british supermarkets as furries. Half the people didnt even know they were british supermarkets. so many people kept asking me to draw american supermarkets. NONE of the people like the person above were british or had any real sense of our comedy culture and how much we clown on this kind of thing anyway. it was possibly a poor choice of timing of me to coincide this with the drama around people drawing the target dog as a furry (because its...... supporting the company and free advertising, apparently.) anyway. british people on my tumblr im sure u understand how nuts this is. 'free advertising for some shitty company' im sorry ig ill just not shop anywhere for my food then lest i support a big evil company 🤷‍♂️ no food for me 😊 jesus christ. i cant think of a single person whod be swayed to shop at a different supermarket because some random on the internet gave it a slightly better fursona. except maybe m&s given how viscerally down bad everyone was for her.
god forbid british people joke about they supermarkets and the stereotypes surrounding them.. it was complete satire anyway in reference to all those anthro/personifications people used to do of products/companies, this isnt even my normal style!! oh but if you try to explain yourself it apparently makes it 1000x worse and makes people feel entitled to openly and directly attack you. the random ass hollow but disgusting rape and death threat i got in dms was nicer than the way people on twitter treat someone if their posts blows up. 0 compassion or thought that the person at the other end did not expect nor want this to happen.
+ the posts stats so u can see what i was up against 🧍‍♂️ (I locked my acc for a few days and turned off replies otherwise it would've kept going for sure) jeeesus christ
Tumblr media
i cant even bring myself to keep reblogs on here for fear of this spreading further than this account 🧍‍♂️ LMAO

HONESTLY just male concubine being obsessed with Empress gives me life. Like he takes one look at her wardrobe and hires a seamstress so they can coordinate matching outfits, he escorts her by the arm wherever she goes when the Emperor isnt around to do it himself, wants to take fancy baths together, brushes her hair, likes to have sleepovers... And the Emperor is like See?? Why would you treat him so coldly leaving him in the rain like that, he absolutely adores you >:( oh he punished a servant? He must have had a good reason, he only has your the Empress best interest in mind.
OOOH BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE. Like yk how in some manhwa concubines can be given as gifts to establish good diplomatic relationships? Imagine if a foreign sovereign sent a male concubine but for the Empress. And like. Its not like they can straight up refuse the gift, because that would be seen as extremely rude/hostile, but it is clear that as soon as they come in with a handsome dude saying he is for the Empress the temperature in the room just DROPS. Male concubine literally goes from 😊 to 🙂 to 😐 and the Emperor is FUMING on the inside. Ofc they accept the gift and the new concubine is put in the Empress palace, but now Male Concubine needs to think of a way to solidify his position (ummm.... baby?) without being found out by the Empress, cause he would hate if she got angry at him again, and just turns into even more of a menace along with the Emperor who all of a sudden has time to visit the Empress every single day and night.
And imagine if the new concubine is just an overall sweet guy :( like maybe the Empress doesnt necessarily like him in a romantic way, but he is a breath fresh of air as she can feel at ease with him, laugh with him, etc. Oh that would drive them insane.
I meant to swing back to this ask much sooner because it has such supreme drama potential 🤌 because really, I'm starting to wonder if I feed off of the satirical toxic energy lmao (also this ask can refer to the Saintess Reader/Emperor scenario with or without specific characters but I answered this as the bakugou/izuku thing people have been sending asks in for out of habit
So what I've considered before is, is, having our gifted male concubine be either from a specific culture or be practicing a certain religion where he holds the Reader who is the Saintess in extremely high regard if not an outright holy figure, like Reader is basically the Pope except you know she can actually perform miracles. He's essentially devoted his life to the concept of serving the Saintess in every way possible that his body has to offer ( 😏 ) and considers it his duty. And to round out our main protag trio I thought, it would be pretty appropriate to have this concubine be Shoto (can literally never remember if it's Shoto vs Shouto vs Shōto). Maybe Shoto even has extra privileges or protections: perhaps he's not just a gift from the ruler or leader of the land he hails from, perhaps he's even a prince, making him even more immune to any potential threats or dangers
I just imagine Bakugou being initially dismissive, kind of laughing at the concept. A man to be akin to a handmaid to his Empress? He might as well be a lowly slave, or a dog. I wonder if he'd be so full of himself that he doesn't even consider Shoto any sort of threat until a certain lil marimo boy is whispering paranoid suggestions in his ear
Really though, the drama would be absolutely dripping from Izuku and Shoto, because you have an obsessive clingy needy dweeb who wants to devote himself to you vs someone ALSO in his own way much more subtly obsessive and clingy and devoted to you AS A LIFESTYLE. I can just picture so many different scenarios where the two of them go head to head. Like, can you imagine that Shoto notices you're looking stressed and tired, and he encourages, no, insists that you lie down and take a rest, and who else but the green embodiment of so many of your troubles is trying to barge into your palace right after you've finally fallen asleep? You wake up to the pair of them basically trying to slug each other out in the courtyard because Izuku refuses to leave and Todoroki refuses to let him inside
Then there's the added drama of "is Reader or isn't she allowed to sleep with him?" Or if they decide to risk it for love or lust or what 👀 you're just all extremely stressed and bent out of shape and Shoto consoles you, and he sees you and hears you and you feel so understood and he comforts you, and you start feeling like he's literally the only person in this awful country you can trust. I can only IMAGINE the chaos if, even if Reader was allowed to have "connections", if Reader sleeps with Shoto and Izuku finds out, full on barging into your bedroom to find the two of you naked if not still in the middle of the act outright. Izuku just rushing to the Emperor in tears because, it's terrible, you'll never believe it, he can't even believe someone would do something so terrible as to DEFILE you (even if he wants Bakugou to do the same and also maybe himself as well), can't you do something Katsuki, Shoto is DIRTY and WRETCHED and he will TAINT YOUR HONOR obviously
It really has it all. You've got the potential angst for Bakugo just outright having Shoto executed (maybe he's perfectly innocent and just a good friend, maybe he's another yandere), you've got Izuku and Shoto being catty and trying to backstab each other and get the other in trouble, you've got drama between Reader and Bakugou as an arranged marriage couple/"I actually do love you but I'm emotionally constipated and fucked up and can't communicate without being a raging prick"
Deadass, I bet Bakugou goes from maybe seeing you once or twice a week to, once Shoto is in your palace, every single day if not multiple times a day. Obviously he has to keep an eye open in case that stupid monk tries anything with you or tries to trick you into something. You're so soft hearted and nice and stupidly naive that of course you need someone rough like him to balance you out and keep you on track (or so he rationalizes). This is just... a temporary setback! Clearly you love him, and you're HIS wife, no one else's. You're just being a brat and throwing a tantrum for some reason he hasn't figured out yet, but he'll sort this out and get you back on his side, even if he has to kill your new friend to do it. You'll come around. After all, you've stuck with him this long haven't you?

last reblog makes a good point but i do also want to say that there’s an interesting way that some of these satires are failing, one which i think is illuminating. im going to talk about the endings to the menu and also glass onion under the cut
a friend said to me a while back that the problem with glass onion is that it thinks the wrong people are rich. it isnt a critique of capitalism or even of “entrepreneurship”, its a critique of one stupid guy.
similarly, the menu’s critique is not of the massively exploitative restaurant industry, it’s a critique of fine dining. and that’s an easy critique to do! nobody likes that pretentious bullshit except for the people who can actually afford to eat it! but you cant forget that the central moment of the menu makes the argument that the chef wouldve been happier if he was flipping burgers for minimum wage, because you see the american burger joint is more authentic or whatever.
a useful mental exercise for these sorts of “satires” is to play devil’s advocate a little bit. put yourselves in the shoes of a guy who has politics you hate, and ask what he would really truly see in the film. if he can watch that thing and think “wow those uptight jewselites really are detestable, and the world would be better if authentic guys like myself or a blogger named moldbug were in charge”, then you may have enjoyed the movie but the movie isn’t leftist.
a lot of these things (i think very deliberately) present something of a cipher that can be interpreted favorably along populist lines by people quite far apart on the political spectrum. this is a sensible move if youre trying to sell a lot of movie tickets.
all of this isnt to say that we should stop enjoying these types of stories, or even to argue that they dont have anything to offer us. as always i just want us to think about media and to try and understand it as best as we can, even when that leads to conclusions we may not like.

shizuo is like the anti-isekai protagonist. gets hit by trucks but refuses to die from it. the trucks die actually. i'd believe that there's a whole slew of universes that were expecting a young japanese man to appear in their basic european lookin ass fantasy world where the only significant inhabitants are pretty women but instead of shizuo they get the truck as the protagonist and it actually sorta works out for the better somehow
there's at least one world where a train is the protagonist because shizuo somehow managed to live getting hit by one (i can recall at LEAST one fanfic where this happened, even if he did get amnesia)
anyway au where shizuo actually does die to getting hit by like. a plane or something and the inhabitants are like "oh thank god, our neighbor universes have been getting the weirdest protagonists of late but at least you look normal"
and then izaya falls from the sky a good mile away and the inhabitants are like. god. fuck. this is why we cant have nice things
the isekai world with a generic harem cast, generic villain, and generic magic system so boring that izaya takes it upon himself to become a better villain and uses the barebones magic system in creative and deadly ways no one else has ever heard of PURELY to fuck with shizuo (he doesn't consider these people "human" per say, because they have such limited emotional capacity, but he tries to prod at their limits anyway)
and shizuo making connections with all the people as he did in ikebukuro and acting like a normal protagonist for the most part because there's nothing to really trigger his rage, EXCEPT for when izaya comes around and shizuo immediately starts throwing hands, but people don't look at shizuo weirdly for it anymore because he's the chosen one and he's expected to be inhumanly strong
izaya calls shizuo a monster as per usual but the townspeople actually start defending shizuo and saying izaya's the real monster and with that izaya's basically lost all his power and it's driving him NUTS
shizuo slowly, grudgingly coming to terms with the fact that this really isnt so different from his ikebukuro life and that izaya is the spice to his life. he also gets weirdly defensive when people other than him start talking shit about izaya but that's neither here nor there
meanwhile izaya's been trying to figure out how to get back to the real world because he'll go insane if he has to talk to literal NPCs (who will do his bidding, but in the most boring way possible?? where's the fun in not having to watch his back) for more than five minutes
izaya figures out a way to go back but it involves something that he really doesn't want to do and also shizuo so he is having a very bad month
idk where to go from here but. maybe ill write a draft sometime or draw random scenes cuz this sounds fun i love writing satirically cliche fiction

Hey, just wanted to make a post on a situation i've been seeing.
So i found this parody bbc blog that posts shitty bbc memes and have been following them for a while. I've even chatted with the mod briefly before and they're a good person, from what I can tell.
Recently someone with a bunch of followers has practically thrown a bunch of people to anon hate the blog.
The mod attempted to do an unreality thing, like goncharov, but with sherlock season five. They said in their apology (which you can find as the pinned post on their blog, linked at the bottom of this post) that they didn't even intend for it to get that amount of attention, let alone that amount of negative attention. They're getting reported for a satire or parody or whatever account. I am aware that this is a very possibly autistic minor that people are going after. WHAT. THE. HELL???
Like i understand if you like, miss the unreality tag, but if you get as far as to seeing the misspelled user and the shitty memes and still think the account is serious, that's on YOU. People need to think about credibility before junt believing things.
Also, I really hope the unreality continues despite all this hate. I know some people are trying to get the mod to delete the account, but I really want this to be a fun unreality thing that I actually get to be there for, because I joined tumblr at the end of the whole goncharov craze.
A friend of mine pointed out how that if this happened in most fandoms, it would be a funny parody account, but thanks to one person not doing their research, leading to a bunch of people ALSO not doing their research, this poor kid is getting anon hate.
FUCKING.
STOP.
jesus.
the account is below, go send them something that ISNT hate please. Jesus.

!satire!
(trigger warning, mention of suicide, its nasty also, child abuse, addiction)
New rottmnt headcanon, Master Splinter isnt actually a rat man, hes just a furry. The rat is his fursona. When the turtles discover (he tells them) they all get really freaked out and confused, anyways yeah this motivates them to all commit suicide. :D
splinter spent so much time in the fursuit and it turned out like "the man in the suit incident", he merged with the suit because the turtles are irradiated and the radiation they were emitting merged him with the fursuit. he was very happy about it
the only reason he kept the turtles around was for their radiation, he would sometimes drink their piss to speed up the process. he got addicted to radiation and started doing anything to get it, he also got insanely addicted to the piss, and he would hit the turtles when they didnt give it to him. he starts injecting the piss into his bloodstream

HAI AMP… another (not very) mysterious anon (its just nana) here to give my two cents on the whole “is kyle/are the boys ‘worse’ than cartman” situation
i feel like people forget that characters don’t actually have to be characters if that makes sense? like characters can have a sole purpose of simply conveying a message instead of having to be a fully developed character with a backstory that contributes to their final goals and the way they are. for example, in romeo and juliet, the prince isn’t necessarily a fully fleshed out character, but a representation of justice within the play
in any case, like you said previously, cartman isn’t designed to be a character, he is more of an example if anything. his main purpose in the show is to be laughed at and ridiculed because of his amusingly stupid behaviour, and he frequently doesn’t ever have much good coming to him, and if he does it isnt for long, for example in cartmanland where he gets a million dollars and loses it in the same episode solely because he is stupid with the way he handles it; again, he is designed to be laughed at and mocked for how he behaved, and he is not a character that the audience is made to sympathise/empathise with at all
in conclusion: cartman is a racist, antisemitic asshole and is not meant to be compared to the other boys because their storytelling purposes do not intertwine with cartman’s. stan, kyle and kenny all have completely different roles and allegorical meanings to cartman and one would think this is a given concept but i suppose not ^_^
yours faithfully, nana
(also yes i sent this in as an anon ask because my sp blog is a sideblog… screams and cries)
HAII NANA :3
THIS IS VERY TRUE AND WORDED VERY WELL... Cartman is one of those characters with a sole purpose, and he fills it very well! He's iconically evil; you'd be hard pressed to find more well-known despicable characters, given just how he's embedded himself into pop culture (speaking of pop culture, Spotify took his Poker Face cover off!!! which is very sad...). In that sense, he's a great, highly entertaining villain: it only becomes complicated once you try and take him as more than just that.
Him not being meant to be compared to the other boys is also a very good point!! Because he really isn't. Off the top of my head, it's much harder to think of a genuinely emotional Cartman episode, in the same way the other boys each have at least one of their own. I'm sure some people interpret some of his episodes that way, but in reality; he's just not a character the viewer is intended to feel legitimate sympathy for. It's why other characters (even in a satire like South Park) get episodes that showcases their more human parts (a great example is The Poor Kid, for Kenny), while Cartman essentially gets zip. His most humanizing episodes are still played off as jokes, because they're really not meant to be humanizing at all.
I've seen plenty of people who want to make Cartman more than that, which in theory, I don't have much of a problem with; it's when people begin twisting themselves into knots to justify why canon supports him as redeemable that issues begin to arise. It is surprising to me how many people love an evil character but want to take the evil out of him!! At that point, I don't think it's really Cartman anymore.

im worried that my previous ask is way too aggressive and might make you feel defensive and thats not helpful at all so i just want to explain that im so angry because it breaks my heart to see other people being violently harassed into submission just for saying something that isnt a popular opinion. you are quite literally being gaslit by a bunch of strangers who desperately dont want to have to think that hard about the material consequences of their own behaviors.
they are simplifying the issue in order to make you look unreasonable so that they can completely dismiss your opinion while giving you no way to defend yourself without making yourself look worse. its manipulative and coercive and vile. they have tricked you into condemning your own behavior and reinforcing that self doubt that THEY planted in you in the first place.
they are convincing you that you have to police yourself otherwise they will do it for you and they arent going to be nice about it.
they intentionally misunderstood what you were saying so that they could ignore the point you were making and thus avoid taking responsibility for their personal role in our capitalist society.
they are operating on this us vs them mindset of "good people" vs "bad people" and they think that they are a "good person" and that you are trying to maliciously assert that theyre actually a "bad person." its fascist behavior. they dont want to acknowledge their place in the web of life because then they have to be more careful about how they act and they simply do not want to. they think its their god given right to not have to do anything thats difficult and reflecting on how you are influenced by the oppressive systems you live in is not just difficult but uncomfortable!
you are forcing people to confront some very very uncomfortable truths about themselves and they are reacting the only way they know how: by lashing out at the people around them.
it is a reflection on THEM not YOU. their reaction doesnt say anything about you or the opinion you stated and everything about the experiences and expectations and knowledge that inform the way they think about the world around them.
i just dont feel comfortable standing by and watching this happen to someone else. so i dont know what it means to you but, i completely agree with your original point and i am more than happy to defend it if you dont feel comfortable doing so. i know how scary it can be to face down a mob of people who you know might turn to violence if you dont comply and i know most people dont find it as easy to take harassment as i do. i am more than willing to fight the fight if you cant.
idk just. be kinder to yourself. you cant let these people get to you. i knows it so fucking hard. its so so fucking hard. but you dont have to do it alone.
i hope youre okay.
hey fren, I've seen it all but I'm sorry I'm not gonna respond to all that, I'm very thankful for your kind thoughts and words but it's kinda a bit much 😅
just know we're on the very same track about the whole thing. It's absolutely hilarious what some people wrote to me about an already reworded opinion on pillows, and i can genuinely just laugh about that
this entire thread turned so badly into satire with so many layers that it could almost be considered an artistic expression. after all, this is the internet, which was kinda the original ordeal of the post, and I took it and made it 1000% funnier by writing too quickly and then people came and made it 10000% funnier by becoming embarrassingly entrenched in some random ass online discourse
I like to half jokingly call this kind of behavior 'internet sickness', since as you also noted you can find this kind of behavior all over the internet. people see an entire universe full of people that seemingly get the attention they don't, but humans are fueled with attention, so sometimes you see someone do literally anything for that tiny tad of attention, even if they don't mean it. this may sound familiar from the way I word my posts sometimes, because as I made clear as day, I'm not better than that sometimes.
Admittedly, I also suppose not all of the angry asks and comments would have been so hostile if tumblr would show late reposts with their comments on an original post more clearly, which isn't so easy. This is why I pinned yet another polarizing post about it with a comment about the situation 🤭 some people would rather click to start another shitstorm than click to find out there's no reason for them to freak out. But often in the internet people don't freak out of hostility, but because they realize (but refuse to accept) they identify with something about the cause in some way, so that would be a positive thing I suppose. It's up to each of us individually to grow from that.
i don't get hard feelings about these people, and genuinely as a former Twitter user I'm kinda used to it. it's just an annoyance at some point, but I suppose it's also the attention I was looking for 💁
After all, I get to post this lyrical masterpiece once more in a well fitting context

i think the whole meme with the guy and the shirt that's like "satire requires a clarity of purpose" is not entirely right but i also think people who shit on it go too far in the other direction. like no you dont have to account for everyones interpretation of your words but communication is a two way street and poorly executed satire can be really demoralizing if you do mistake it for like say, bigotry assuming thats what its satirizing. but also it has the different problem of if you get too close to the reality of how people actually think the satire will be co-opted and if youve ever been on a political satire subreddit you understand that. like making fun of racists by making posts that sound racist but are even more blatantly stupid than racist rhetoric already is actually isnt all that Good because you end up inviting a bunch of racists to be like "yeah i agree lol" and giving them free plausible deniability and essentially contributing to 4chan style meta-ironic fascism

anon from yesterday n yea i watched it earlier, overall p much what i expected . i thought kaitlins acting was rly good in particular in the scene where dennis was monologuing abt their childhood n i think it provided interesting insight into her as a character nd how dennis can affect her but th misogynistic speeches were just a little 2 real for me so i just kinda sat thru them like uhh …. okay then! bc they were jst sooo aggressively vitriolic. like, sure, you’re not supposed to agree with dennis, but at the same time, none of it was being said in a comedic way yk. it was just dennis repeating real things ppl actually think and say abt women
yeah so much of the episode had me sitting there stone faced. which isnt really a great thing for a comedy show. in terms of lore I like the episode because it provides some more insight into the trash twins dynamic. and also it was a dee centric episode (finally!).
but imo I think the issue comes from the fact they are trying to do three things at once.
1: use the characters as vessels for social satire, in this case satirising the way men treat women's sports and also the way they try and negatively define the relationships between women.
but also 2: create interesting and deep characters that feel human. the gang are deeply flawed but you do connect with them.
and finally 3: make it all funny.
and sometimes these three things can work together well. but sometimes they can clash.
for example:
they were trying to depict the way men treat women's sports. and lots of things about it was effective. it felt viscerally uncomfortable. you could really empathise with dee and how small she felt in that moment. it said some interesting things about how women are people who are going have conflict with one another but their inter-personal relationships aren't entirely positive or negative. they are complex.
but none of that was particularly funny. or, as a woman who rlly likes dee, enjoyable. (and you could also argue that it didnt achieve anything - ill get to that later)
it also felt less like an exploration of the trash twins as siblings, and more like an exploration of men vs women. which is okay, because in this instance they were using their dynamic as a means to portray an issue. but when they do that, it is often at the expense of making them feel human. or at least making them feel like their own characters.
and then theres the whole thing about whether satire is effective if it is just someone touting bigoted language with no real subversion. (this shit is confusing so feel free to disagree with me if ive said it wrong)
I think I would've loved the episode sooooo much more if there was more explicit subversion of the stuff dennis was saying. for example, the waitress kicks the punching bag and is great at it. but then dennis beats her. when I watched that, I presumed it would be revealed that it was part of the waitress's plan to make dennis hurt himself, so they could win. but that was never said, I dont think. and also at the end: the waitress says she doesnt like womens sports. which is something dennis said earlier. and on one hand, that is completely fine because the whole point is that women arent a monolith. they have differing opinions about women's sport.
but then again, why does dee just stand there and take it? she was beaten down throughout the episode, and at the last moment had a tiny victory. she overcame her internal obstacles. but her victory was subverted and turned bitter because she received no external validation. (which is interesting from a dee lore stand point but not satisfying as the audience) so that was aim 3, being funny, getting in the way. they went for a punchline, which slightly ruined the effectiveness of the satire. because dennis's claims were only temporarily subverted. in fact, his misogyny about women's sports was actually reinforced by the ending.
so aim 3, being funny, got in the way of the satire and also the portrayal of the waitress's character. despite being seen as multi-faceted throughout the episode, at the end her motivations and character becomes secondary to a punchline. why would the waitress do all that if she didnt care about sport? (im suppressing my deetress instincts rn) why would she stay? why did dee not question why she said that? whatever it achieved, it definitely made dee's character more tragic.
so ultimately this episode is fascinating because I think most of the issues with it, you could argue, are subjective. you could argue that sacrificing humour for a serious and uncomfortable depiction of misogyny (like in the gutter ball scene) is fine. or you could have even found that scene hilarious. and you could argue that because the ending is funny, it is fine to negate the other two main aims. and you could even argue that the ending is actually brilliant because it subverts the sports movie stereotype and is a more accurate portrayal of the experiences of women in sport!
I hope I dont seem like im just shitting on the episode. I liked lots of it. and ill probably be talking about its implications with dee and her relationship with dennis for ages. but yeah idk. I could argue about this in circles forever.
but tldr: weird episode. some good bits, some bad bits. and also the good bits could be bad bits and the bad bits could be good bits. depending on your priorities / what you want the show to be.

Made a DO or DONT guide because people kept gaslighting others with "its just a joke omfg"
Here it is, Folks.
Do
Make humor out of harmless events and make fun of each other for controllable traits
(IN an affectionate way of irony where you otherwise support them for who they are)
(NOT in a way where you are judgemental and hate them for what youre poking at because those are poorly disguised as jokes)
DONT
Make fun of them for things they cannot control or put them through putting them down for differences (etc., having skin pigment eye shapes etc.,) thats freakishly supremacy mindsetted and super grossly judgemental and close minded to their unique beauty and way of being
Youre uninteresting and boring to bully and make fun of their looks and appearance when nothing is actually wrong with them.
(Exceptions are otherwise lifting them up for having these traits and only generalizing to everyone no matter what they are since we would all share that bodytype and on a non offensive down right gross scale to say those things)
DO
be creative with your wording. Creative, lighthearted insult.
DONT
threaten, insult, cuss out, hatecrime, say I WILL RAPE YOU etc.,
DO
make fun of ppl that do those things mentioned in the previous dont, use the satire and irony to teach others why its wrong while remaining lighthearted About it
DONT
just randomly repeat and spew the problem, then youre just being a problem.
DO
For the love of dieties abolish stereotypes
DONT
FUCKING REAFFIRM THEM ITS NOT FUCKING FUNNY. DOG WHISTLES AND HATEFUL RHETORIC NEED TO DIE DOWN AND NEVER COME BACK
Do
Make light of war, crime, tragedies. Have humor in characters involved. Make light of irony that makes the "bad guys" look bad and other genuine humanizing things,
"MY MOTHER WENT BACK UP THE STAIRS DURING 9/11 AND GOT OUT UNBOTHERED LMFAO GIRLBOSS"
Use your power to share these things through comedy enlightening and humorful in a way that has actual punchlines and ideas that joke more of other factors involved than the fact it actually happens which is the part that we mourn.
Dont
Just repeat the tragedy. Like ok? Lol jews got gassed. what??? Theres no punchline. CHERNABOYL HAPPENED. SCHOOL SHOOTING. thats just tragic defiable violence. Where is the comedy. There is none. Stop describing tragic events and laughing at them thats not an appropriate emotional reaction omfg.
Like laugh at someone who found a building funny for no reason while high, or be like omfg stairs are an omori reference, but not the fact MASS TERRORISM HAPPENS??? what the fuck is wrong with you. Joke differently.
DO
MAKE YOUR JOKES ACCURATE
DONT
TRY TO CONVINCE PEOPLE OF MISINFORMATION TO PERPETUATE A FALSE AGENDA.
(Exception is if the irony is misinforming as a joke where u know they just felt like lying and admit to that while joking and say HEY WE R JOKING THIS ISNT TRUE rather than joking misinformation with no clarification.)
