she's pushing fifty, a kind soul trying her best, despite the fact that the baby father mysteriously went missing during her pregnancy and she basically had to raise the child all on her own. the child who somehow accidentally became a vampire. yeah.

she has one (1) younger brother, bjørn-sigurd, (their parents really liked double names dhfjgh), who may have stepped into the babysitting uncle role when mort's bio dad was nowhere to be seen. she's also chronologically the same age as rune, though obviously with way more life experience, as rune hibernated half his life away.

she lived in an apartment with her kid for a while, up until the point where the story starts and they move into a little house instead.

her blood type is A-, which is a rather rare one. fun fact, bat actually likes the blood of this family a lot, especially hers.

her favorite color is teal.

I have the same issue with Ø, Å and more rarely Æ...

They're not fancy Os, As or just an A and and E squished together. They're pronounced very differently.

Æ sounds like... actually I don't know how to explain it properly. But I will let you know bæ is not an endearing nickname for your significant other but the sound a sheep makes... I belive it also means poop in Danish. So maybe don't call your significant other that... Just say Bae.

Ø sounds like Uh.

Å sounds like Oh.

One of my favourite fun facts is that Norwegian Sign Language is used in two countries.

Which is the other country? Is it it Sweden, our neighbur and the most recent big influence of Norwegian language? Is it Denmark that ruled over us for oh so many years? Is it Finland? Or Iceland? Or any other country in northern europe? Surely it can't be Russia, even though we border each other?

Nope.

It's Madagascar. Because the first deaf school in Madagascar was taught by Norwegian teachers. Of course there's also a Malagasy Sign Language. From what I read there's a lot of loanwords (loan-signs?).

In fact the two appear so closely related that the Malagasy Sign Language appear on the Danish Sign Language tree via Norwegian sign.

this is a niche one but instead of "they would not fuckin say that" it's "they would not fucking use American sign language".

ASL is not the only sign language. two british characters in your fanfiction would not be using ASL. England in fact has its own kind of sign language, BSL, that forms a sign family with many other sign languages around the world.

ASL isn't even the original member of its sign family, it comes from french sign language. do you know sign languages aren't related to spoken languages? that's an important one! it's not a direct 1:1 with people speaking English around the world. people in other countries don't learn ASL just in case they run into an usamerican or Canadian (who do often use it)

i know the entire world is the USA or whatever and sign languages do sometimes borrow from ASL for signs they don't have, but please be aware that there are other sign languages and families in the world that are not in fact ASL.

Theriotype List

So, to start out, for context, I think we've all seen a skeptic comment about how all therians are only "cool" animals. I personally have always enjoyed keeping up with those with "rarer" theriotypes and even using them as examples when these kinds of arguments are brought up, so I've decided to do a little bit of a personal project, that being creating a huge list of the wide variety within the therian community. Below is the list I've created so far, sorted by general species, then adding in subspecies/breeds, all in alphabetical order.

Please keep in mind and understand that for now, I am only putting Earthen animals on this list, mainly so I and the post can keep up, because there's a LOT here already and I know there are hundreds more out there. Maybe in the future I'll make another list with mythical/fictional/etc. kintypes, or someone else can do that for me, you have my full permission, just let me know, but for now, just Earthen animals.

How many letters are in each European alphabet?

Latin Alphabet Dominance: Most European languages use the Latin alphabet, which originated from the ancient Romans. This alphabet has been adapted and modified to suit the phonetic needs of various European languages. Cyrillic Alphabet: While many European languages use the Latin script, some, like Russian, Bulgarian, and Serbian, use the Cyrillic alphabet. This script was developed in the First Bulgarian Empire during the 9th century by Saints Cyril and Methodius. Special Characters: Several European languages include special characters in their alphabets. For example, German has the "umlaut" (ä, ö, ü), French uses accents (é, è, ê), and Spanish has the "ñ." These characters often indicate specific phonetic nuances. Diacritical Marks: Diacritical marks, such as accents, tilde, and cedilla, are commonly used in European alphabets to modify the pronunciation of letters. For example, in Spanish, the letter "ñ" is pronounced differently than "n." Scandinavian Languages: The Scandinavian languages, including Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, use a modified version of the Latin alphabet that includes additional characters such as å, ä, and ö. Gaelic Alphabets: Irish and Scottish Gaelic have their own distinct alphabets. The Irish Gaelic alphabet, for instance, has 18 letters, and it includes accented characters and a unique order compared to the standard Latin alphabet. Greek Alphabet Influence: The Greek alphabet has had a significant impact on European alphabets. I wrote Tord to try to be a mix of Legacy and OG Tord so hopefully, it pleases everyone (I know the fandom can be pretty divided when it comes to writing Tord).

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Tord is super affectionate, he goes out of his way to show you he loves you either by giving you small gifts from day to day or kissing you in public. He has no problem showing others how much he loves you. 

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Tord treats you like he treats his other friends, sure that means going out of his way to mess with you and get dragged into his “adventures” but hey? You live for the chaos, right?

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Always the cuddler, he rarely lets you hold him. He feels more at peace when he has you in his arms, as he can always protect you and keep you safe. He lays you against his chest while he presses soft kisses against your head while whispering Norwegian love words into your ears.  

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Tord really wants to settle down, of course, it will be a while into your relationship but if you want to get married and have a family by then? Hell yeah! He will help with the cooking and cleaning but is subpar at best, but he really will try for you. 

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

If Tord absolutely had to break up with you, he would do it in person. He would walk away afterward, not responding to your sobs and/or calls out to him, and walk in silence for the rest of his way home.  

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Tord is content when engaged, and he’s so happy to be your fiance. Tord is super about commitment, thinking it’s one of the most important things in your relationship so he is already committed from hell and back. Tord is fine with whatever pace you want, if you want to get married right away, he’s already booking the venue. If you want to give it time, no problem, just come to him when you’re ready. 

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Tord is gentle when you or he wants to be, which is crazy because to others he’s such a scary-looking guy. With you, however? He’s a big sweetheart, and he very much shows it with his actions and his words. You want cuddles? Arms are wide open for you. Had a long day? He’s whispering Norwegian phrases into your ear as he rubs your back in a soothing manner. Sure, he messes up sometimes and isn’t as gentle when he should be; but he always apologizes and makes it up to you. 

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Tord loves hugs, and he makes sure to hug you often. He loves to hug you from behind, slightly startling you as he laughs into the crook of your neck while pressing his lips along your flesh. 

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

He’s the one to say it first, and it’s deep into your relationship I would say. He would say it in the heat of the moment during an argument after you blurted out the question “Why are you still here then Tord?!”, something along the lines of “Because I love you (Name), damn it all!” His voice cracking as he tries his best to stay together. Of course, you took him into your arms, mumbling “I love you too.”

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

He gets super jealous, not too often but when he does he gets green with envy. Of course, he trusts you, it’s the people around you two he can’t trust to keep their grubby hands to themselves. He never blames you when other people look your way, although he will step in if the person doesn’t take the hint.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Tord’s kisses are messy, and he totally has so much fun giving you sloppy kisses and your reactions to them. He loves to kiss your lips and cheeks, leaving gross slobber marks behind as he chuckles. Although, every once in a while, he’ll be serious and give you long, sensual kisses on your lips as he holds your hands into his. As for where he likes to be kissed? He lives to be kissed by you, so kiss him anywhere you’d like!

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Tord is great around children he knows, like close family members and stuff like that. Other than that, he is extremely awkward around children and doesn’t know how to properly talk to them if they come up to him, “Sooooo… Kid, you like guns?” You had to quickly drag him away after that one. He longs to have children though if you want to as well. 

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Mornings are usually slow-paced, either he gets up, gently smiling at your sleeping form while leaning down to lightly kiss your temple, and makes breakfast for the both of you or he wakes up with his arms still wrapped around you; daring to not let go as he doesn’t want to wake you up for your well-deserved sleep. 

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Imagine, Tord’s had a long day. He comes home straight to you and scoops you up into his arms, “Oh, min kjærlighet, I missed you.” Pressing a small kiss against your cheek as he softly laughs into your neck. You both cook dinner as you both stir up conversation while it simmers on the stove. Tord usually takes a shower (you’re more than welcome to join him, wink wink), and takes you into his arms once more as the both of you wind down on the couch, watching TV. 

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Tord has a bad habit of keeping things from you, and things about himself are no exception so he definitely waits to reveal things slowly. However, it is during your friendship is when he reveals things about himself. It’ll be little things during mundane situations at first, like telling you his likes and dislikes while you two are getting groceries or doing laundry. 

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Tord has his moments where he tends to have short bursts of anger like when someone talks back to him, but once he sees your face he can take a breath, walk away from the situation, and come back later to deal with it. If it’s between the both of you, he does the same and apologizes for being so angry. 

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He remembers a good chunk of things you tell him, like he knows your favorite food and music tastes as well as the type of shampoo you use. The big stuff like anniversary dates he always remembers, like one time he remembered the day you first spoke to him, and sometimes he has to remind you of them.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

He loves to remember the time when he first took you out, especially your precious laugh at one of his lame jokes. He took you out to a local arcade, trying to impress you at one of the shooting games. Of course, you were promptly kicked out after he brought out real guns, (which earned another laugh from you, so he considers it a win anyway).

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Tord is protective, for sure. He tries to take you away from the situation as quickly as possible to explain to you what he’s feeling at that moment. This mostly happens when someone is flirting with you or you’re around someone who gives him creepy vibes. He puts his hand on your waist, scowling at the target of his anger as he walks away with you. Tord, like Edd, would find it comical if you tried to protect him. He would think it’s so cute you think he needs protecting. 

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

So much effort man. It’s one of the main things he uses to show he cares about you so much. Dates can be planned in advance, for example, one of your favorite authors was in town for a book signing and he even bought the newest book beforehand and set it on your bed with a big red bow and a tag saying ‘For min kjærlighet :)’. Anniversaries are planned weeks in advance, and with the help of his friends, he makes sure you’re having the best night possible. With everyday tasks, he’s with you 100 percent whether it be talking with you as you wipe down the counters or helping you clean the backyard. 

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Like I said, he has a bad habit of keeping things from you, and one of the most damning is his feelings. He refuses to let you in, and it comes off as him not trusting his feelings with you. It is like that at first but he doesn’t trust anyone with his feelings until he realizes you are there for all of him. Also, the smoking, if it bothers you he tries to cut back. 

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

He mildly cares about his looks, he keeps up with his daily hygiene as well as wearing a cologne, maybe even putting on a bit of makeup and nail polish if he feels like it that day. He will always clean up for dates though. 

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

This man is lost without you, before you came into his life he knew something was missing and he went out to find it. Who knew it would lead to the most amazing person he ever met?

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

I could totally see Tord getting matching couple tattoos with you, of course, it will be a while into your relationship because it is such a huge commitment as it will be on your bodies for the rest of time. It would be something simple like yours and his initials in a heart. 

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Tord would not like someone who refuses to open up to him, ironic I know. He needs someone to be completely honest and open with him so he can work up to that point too. 

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

I see Tord training himself to be a light sleeper, he’s constantly alert for you and your safety and will wake up to the smallest sounds like a creak in the floorboards.

Peri across the world

Languages is a passion of mine, so I had to see how Periwinkle's name was translated (if it was) in the many languages available on Netflix.

Edit: I made a mistake for Czech Republic. His name is still Peri (and not Periho). I didn't take into account czech declensions.

So, many countries just... didn't translate the name. It stays Peri/Periwinkle. It's the case for all languages not using the latin alphabet, expect for ukrainian.

Other countries just gives his nickname. Peri then says that purple is his favorite color. In Danish and Norwegian, he just comments that he thinks Peri souds better than Poof.

Direct translation

Some countries translated directly the term "Periwinkle", but kept his nickname as Peri. It's the case for:

Vietnamese: Màu xanh dừa cạn

French: Pervenche

Special shout-out to Brazil, who translated the name literally AND changed his nickname (Pervinca/Pervi) ... despite how non-kid friendly(?) it might sound to non-portugues native speakers.

They just had fun

Croatian translators chose a name that doesn't seem to translate to anything literally.

Croatian: Peripurno (seems to be a play on the word purpurna (purple))

Finally, here five translations I think are really cool!

5. Parelmoer/Parel 🇳🇱

Parelmoer means nacre, or mother of pearl. It doesn't really fit Peri as is, but the translators had fun and it gives him a gentle edge I really like.

4. Inkonte-Belarraren/Inko (Basques 🏴)

Inkonte-Balarraren is the basque word for a plant called vinca major, or greater periwinkle. Makes it seem like Peri's fairy royalty or something.

3. Levendula/Levi 🇭🇺

Lavander translates to levendula in hungarian. I like that they kept the color theme, but made his name understandable to hungarian kids. Also, Levi's a great (nick)name.

2. Perillinen/Peri 🇫🇮

Perillinen means heir, like the next of kin. And woah! What a name to choose! I guess it should be read as Peri's an heir since he took over the family business, but I think there's a neat parallel here with Irep being some kind of heir in his own way.

неперевершений/перi (neperevéršenyj/peri) 🇺🇦

Ok, that one is INSANE. Not only перi (Peri) sounds close to перo, which mean feather, and it gives him a gentle edge. неперевершений translates to unsurpassed, unmatched. THIS fits his character so much! Looking all nice and sweet, but actually used to be some kind of golden child who isn't used to stuff (like his job) not going as planned. Ukrainian!Peri is so cool!

Honorary mention

Another special shout-out: Hebrew. Apparently Peri sounds like פרי, which means "fruit". Man can't escape the allegations....
