Joyland was born the first of three daughters to parents who were more than a little eccentric. She was named after a Stephen King novel, as were both of her sisters, Misery and Carrie. Personally, she thinks that her name is the stupidest.

However, that was not always the case. For a large part of her childhood, she gladly embraced both her unique name and the inescapable oddness that she had seemingly inherited from her parents. She had a vivid imagination, and she would use it to make up elaborate games and spooky stories set in magical realms that were always a little bit on the creepy side, if not outright macabre.

In middle school, her scary stories turned into outlandish character designs, which then turned into costumes that she painstakingly laboured over and wore to show off her creativity. She had been teased in the past, and she had mostly managed to brush it off, but the relentless bullying that she now faced turned out to be too much for her to handle. It never got better, even after she gave up her interest in gothic horror and tried to be more normal like the other kids.

Lucky for her, Joyland was a bright kid with stellar grades, and her reprieve came before her eighth grade in the form of a scholarship to Northview Academy. She begged her parents to let her enroll under a different surname, and assuming it was another one of her quirky ways to play pretend, they obliged.

At Northview, she did everything that she could to fit in with the rich kids. She never talked about where her family lived or what her parents' jobs were, and if it ever came up, she deflected, exaggerated, or told a white lie. She went thrifting for cheap vintage designer pieces and put her sewing skills to good use altering her other clothes to look more expensive. Perhaps it was years of practice living in her own fictional world, or perhaps it was because she was surrounded by people too self-absorbed to bother questioning her, but it worked.

She moved out of town for college after getting a scholarship to study at a fashion school in New York. After her time there, which included a semester abroad in Paris, she moved back to DFW and settled in the upper district.

Through her connections from Northview, which included at least one beauty queen, one model, and several fashionable socialites, she got an internship at a fashion magazine under Bluebonnet Media. Eventually, she became a full-time production assistant and stylist for their photoshoots.

Her job allowed her to meet several successful designers and influential people in fashion, including Faith Fiallo, whom she now works as a junior designer under. Her long-term ambition is to start her own high-end fashion brand.

Deep down, there is a part of her that has never forgotten her love of the dark and weird. In her desk at home, buried under sketches of cocktail dresses and formal attire, is an idea for an alt brand called Penny Dressful that honours her true passion. It's too bad that those designs will never see the light of day.

And then the school district is just overruling their own people. So it's one of the most eye-popping fact patterns we've seen, and we think that when the court sees it, and certainly the public sees it, they'll understand the strength of the case.”

Good morning, Northview High. This is Principal Everett speaking. Here are the morning announcements.

At this time, all students should be in their homeroom class, and no students should be in the halls. It's Tuesday, March 6th, and it's a cloudy morning here in Fairview, Illinois.

The Spring play, “Clue,” holds auditions after school tomorrow. Interested students, please stop by the school auditorium at 3:30. No experience is needed! If you love to act, come put on a show!

The Yearbook club will be in the cafeteria during lunch. Seniors interested in purchasing a yearbook for graduation, this is your opportunity to do so. Please stop by the yearbook table to place your order.

Next Friday, student conferences will take place. Students, if there is work that needs to be made up or handed in, please talk with your teachers
