The Blue Tongue Skink obsession continues. Been going back and forth about getting another one for a while, especially with Cypher turning 8 this year. It’s obvious which side won.

Moropiton,
"baby pythons"
Europe and Western Russia, 310-305 m.y.a.
Tumblr media
Moropitons, "baby pythons" are primitive Discosauriscidae that spread across Europe shortly before the late carboniferous collapse of tropical forests: this event led to the splitting of moropitons into many new species that inhabited the entire Northern Pangaea and Angara - but the main separation occurred about 306 million years ago due to differences in northern and southern ecosystems. We are talking about two subspecies of moropitons - Pushkin's Moropiton and Dumas' Moropiton.
The southern moropiton, or moropiton Dumas, inhabits the territories of the Czech Republic, France, Germany and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe, preferring the shores of reservoirs. Living under the pressure of large predators, he often burrows into the mud, preferring twilight spearfishing with the help of electroreceptors. Despite this, Dumas' skin is relatively dry, and an adult animal can travel long distances to find the best spawning ground. The size of this subspecies does not exceed 40 cm in adults, but they are rare - Dumas clearly shows neotenia, which eliminates competition with commensurate amniotes. A striking feature of moropitons is their venom, and Dumas best corresponds to it, since this subspecies is convergent to Bombinatoridae*. At the sight of danger, Dumas turns over on his back, showing a striped red-black belly and a bright blue mouth.
Tumblr media
Unlike southern moropitons, Pushkin's moropiton grow up to 60 cm and almost do not turn to neoteny. This subspecies appeared later than Dumas, formed during the degradation of the Moscow carboniferous forests 310-308 million years ago: it is adapted to life in dry conditions. They begin their journey in forest reservoirs, where they develop as larvae for 20 years; after that, adults leave for more arid regions. The northern moropiton is less poisonous than the southern one - there are almost no predators in the Moscow forests that could pose a danger, while the habitat conditions are much worse than in European forests. The skin is dry and much better able to tolerate lack of moisture than Dumas; nevertheless, the amphibious nature forces Pushkin to stay close to water sources and in deep burrows/crevices. Pushkin's coloring is faded, reminiscent of that of a Blue-tongued skink the blue mouth remained as a way of communicating with relatives and scaring off predators. Moropitons feed near the seashore, eating up discarded corpses of marine life, and also do not disdain cannibalism and insect hunting.
307 million years ago, forests in Moscow disappeared, and the northern subspecies became extinct; however, part of the population got to Angraida with the help of plant rafts. The southern subspecies dies out later due to competition with its descendants.

My Northern Blue Tongue Skink, Fable, has been in a medical quarantine enclosure for the past week while healing some cuts on her back legs/belly, and she is being rather good while I have to handle her and get her on her back to clean her wounds and put some ointment on them. Right now she's shedding, and her shedding scales came off like beautiful large flakes of glitter (though not sparkly) and I wish I'd taken a picture. I tried to save them, but they were so fragile they kind of crumbled in my hands. It was cool to see though, because I never see her shed since her bioactive enclosure keeps her humidity perfect (with daily misting) and the CUC eat the shed skin--isopods and other detritivores love snake and lizard skin! It was cool to see her shed, and I'm glad that, even in her medical setup, she's still having no problems shedding. I've been so worried about her, because the first few days, the wounds were opening up and bleeding again every time she moved, but it's definitely showing signs of healing now. I want to get her back to her enclosure so she can feel safer and more comfortable and enjoy how I intend to redo some of her enclosure, like her basking spot, and adding some plants.
Pet keeping brings me so much joy, even though it can also be super frustrating at times too.

Beginner taxidermist! I work with strictly naturally deceased animals. Mostly articulate bones, but i’d love to get better at true taxidermy.
I tend to unfollow frequently when interests change, so please don't take it personally- I'm probably just not interested in whatever topic you post about anymore.

@demonartis tagged me in this one, thank you! These are certainly interesting questions ahaha.
If you could ratatouille (control the movements of by sitting on top of, transformed to a size where the mass ratio between you and the animal is approximately that of a rat to a human) any animal, which would you pick and what would you do?
Maybe a sea turtle? As long as there's a clause in this scenario that I can survive being underwater yknow lol. I want to go ride the ocean currents like in Finding Nemo and stop the turtles from eating plastic bags.
How long would it take you to eat your weight in zucchini, assuming each zucchini weighs approximately a pound?
Ah geez... I love zucchini, but I'd have to get real creative to eat through that much zucchini--bread and pastas and 12 different roasting methods and such. Maybe it'd be manageable in like a year and a half if I'm also allowed in this situation to sometimes eat things that don't include zucchini.
If it was like, pure zucchini all the time, I might just die from the texture and flavor monotony tbh, I don't think I could finish it.
Top five favorite lizards
I have to be honest, I didn't really know lizards before this question came up. But I looked up some cool lizards, and five that I liked in no particular order are
Komodo dragon
Northern blue tongue skink
Nano-chameleon
Rhinoceros iguana
Common leopard gecko
Honorable mention to the unidentified lizard I found in the fake plants at the shopping mall that one time.
What specific dishes do you care about enough to grow everything require for in the event of supply line collapse? How feasible is this for your location or expected location, or are u gonna move to make it happen?
So many of the things I like are so complex... Maybe if the community could come together and agree on like 1-2 things each household was responsible for growing for the greater good, it could work out. Like, I'm willing to try my hand at like cabbages if other people can grow rice for me and such. Otherwise there's simply no way I could manage it all lol.
Uh @roys-our-boy @dreamdripdistance @vanibear maybe you'd like to take a crack at these questions? No pressure though!
