The Blue Tongue Skink obsession continues. Been going back and forth about getting another one for a while, especially with Cypher turning 8 this year. It’s obvious which side won.

Moropiton,
"baby pythons"
Europe and Western Russia, 310-305 m.y.a.
Moropitons, "baby pythons" are primitive Discosauriscidae that spread across Europe shortly before the late carboniferous collapse of tropical forests: this event led to the splitting of moropitons into many new species that inhabited the entire Northern Pangaea and Angara - but the main separation occurred about 306 million years ago due to differences in northern and southern ecosystems. We are talking about two subspecies of moropitons - Pushkin's Moropiton and Dumas' Moropiton.
The southern moropiton, or moropiton Dumas, inhabits the territories of the Czech Republic, France, Germany and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe, preferring the shores of reservoirs. Living under the pressure of large predators, he often burrows into the mud, preferring twilight spearfishing with the help of electroreceptors. Despite this, Dumas' skin is relatively dry, and an adult animal can travel long distances to find the best spawning ground. The size of this subspecies does not exceed 40 cm in adults, but they are rare - Dumas clearly shows neotenia, which eliminates competition with commensurate amniotes. A striking feature of moropitons is their venom, and Dumas best corresponds to it, since this subspecies is convergent to Bombinatoridae*. At the sight of danger, Dumas turns over on his back, showing a striped red-black belly and a bright blue mouth.
Unlike southern moropitons, Pushkin's moropiton grow up to 60 cm and almost do not turn to neoteny. This subspecies appeared later than Dumas, formed during the degradation of the Moscow carboniferous forests 310-308 million years ago: it is adapted to life in dry conditions. They begin their journey in forest reservoirs, where they develop as larvae for 20 years; after that, adults leave for more arid regions. The northern moropiton is less poisonous than the southern one - there are almost no predators in the Moscow forests that could pose a danger, while the habitat conditions are much worse than in European forests. The skin is dry and much better able to tolerate lack of moisture than Dumas; nevertheless, the amphibious nature forces Pushkin to stay close to water sources and in deep burrows/crevices. Pushkin's coloring is faded, reminiscent of that of a Blue-tongued skink the blue mouth remained as a way of communicating with relatives and scaring off predators. Moropitons feed near the seashore, eating up discarded corpses of marine life, and also do not disdain cannibalism and insect hunting.
307 million years ago, forests in Moscow disappeared, and the northern subspecies became extinct; however, part of the population got to Angraida with the help of plant rafts. The southern subspecies dies out later due to competition with its descendants.

So with finally being in a place with enough room space for an enclosure I am saving up for a decent sizable one as definitely settled with the choice of getting a northern blue tongue skink after quite a bit of research.
Both me and my partner are really allergic to different mammal dander/fur and though id love to get a bird somewhere down the line it just makes more sense for now going down the reptile route. (And also need to see how R is around birds up close and if they get any allergen reactions)
Anyway this would be my first time getting a reptile outside of turtles when I was a kid. So I want to get the enclosure and all sorted and proper first and then save up for the skink itself afterwards so hopefully some stage early next year 🤞
#im really allergic to cats and theyre really allergic to dogs 😭#i really would have loved to care for a staffie but R come first#also with blue tongues the diet for them i can handle while they do like to eat some bugs their diets are mainly raw meats veg and fruit#unlike most where its rodents and crickets which was my biggest hmmm about keeping reptiles#and just would have felt bad keeping snakes or fish cause i always feel like the enclosures are never big enough and they just get bored#but skinks are chill with being handled can have them out and about they're pretty hardy and dont wanna move around allot#not to big not to small so was like oh yous are perfect little critters!#ive been looking at them for a while but now finally have the means to do so ^^#rambling

My Northern Blue Tongue Skink, Fable, has been in a medical quarantine enclosure for the past week while healing some cuts on her back legs/belly, and she is being rather good while I have to handle her and get her on her back to clean her wounds and put some ointment on them. Right now she's shedding, and her shedding scales came off like beautiful large flakes of glitter (though not sparkly) and I wish I'd taken a picture. I tried to save them, but they were so fragile they kind of crumbled in my hands. It was cool to see though, because I never see her shed since her bioactive enclosure keeps her humidity perfect (with daily misting) and the CUC eat the shed skin--isopods and other detritivores love snake and lizard skin! It was cool to see her shed, and I'm glad that, even in her medical setup, she's still having no problems shedding. I've been so worried about her, because the first few days, the wounds were opening up and bleeding again every time she moved, but it's definitely showing signs of healing now. I want to get her back to her enclosure so she can feel safer and more comfortable and enjoy how I intend to redo some of her enclosure, like her basking spot, and adding some plants.
Pet keeping brings me so much joy, even though it can also be super frustrating at times too.

Beginner taxidermist! I work with strictly naturally deceased animals. Mostly articulate bones, but i’d love to get better at true taxidermy.
I tend to unfollow frequently when interests change, so please don't take it personally- I'm probably just not interested in whatever topic you post about anymore.
(part of my collection!)
Stuff I'm interested in and prob reblog or post about!
LOCKED TOMB!! I love the locked tomb sm. First book is called Gideon the ninth, go read it!!
Bones and skeletons! I do reblog and post about them, so if that’s something you don't like to see be warned. I try to tag all those as “tw bones”
(the warthog I articulated!)
Dogs! I love them v v much and will talk about dogs forever. English mastiffs are my favorite, i’ve had nine English and a handful of other mastiff breeds. I would love to get into showing them someday!
Reptiles! I love them so so much! I have a northern blue tongue named Walter, 2 Beardies named Herman and Dart, and a corn snake named Pyrrha. Walter is from a enthical breeder I adore and the rest are rescues! All my enclosures are bioactive.
(my children- Dart the orange Beardie, Herman the grey Beardie, Walter the skink and Pyrrha the snake
The last of us!!! Ahh I love tlou!! So so so sm!
Stranger things! I've been a fan of st since the start, I named one of my lizards after darttt
Red dead redemption!! I could talk about rdr for days. My user is inspired by it!
Arcane! V v fun! Stuff like arcane normally isn’t my style because it’s very bright and flashy and stuff but for some reason I got hooked on arcane
Unus annus (and mark and Ethan in general! My comfort channel, rip :,)
Star wars!! I'm not as into Star wars as I used to be, but I still love it- especially mandalorian.
Lastly, the MCU! Again like Star wars i’m not as into it as I was, but I still enjoy it.
There’s a few more, but those are the ones that spring to mind- may edit and add or remove some at points
Anddddd lastly
Don't interact or follow if you're a asshole tyyy

neumann being very cute :) hes our 7 months old orange line northern blue tongue skink :)
hes so friendly and sweet, hes been handleable literally from day 1, he loves to climb and explore and LOVES to eat. so much so that he comes RUNNIN to the door when you have food. he isnt picky at all, anything you put in front of him is GONE within seconds.
he has learned that climbing the glass means ill come give him attention, so ill come open the door and he either climbs out juuuust a tiny bit onto my hand if he wants head pets or fully onto my arm if he wants to get on the bed. he usually just asks for a few pets and when hes satisfied hell turn back around and do it again about 30 seconds later lol.
extra fun fact, i put him on my desk a couple of times and Before he decided to bulldoze everything on it, he loved looking out the window and would cock his head and watch the cars and people go by
