hey, just wanted to thank you for your blog, it really helps to see someone write and share so many well written takes and useful posts about all the things that are going on but also like, it's nice to see someone with consistently good positions and without compromissions
Thank you 💗💗
Watching that scene with Valerie and her letter from V for Vendetta altered my brain chemistry as a teenager, esp in the context of the protagonist being tortured for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Let me dig it up for y'all because its just. Lemme show u, words won't do it justice.
But like this is why I don't compromise and can't ever see myself doing it, no matter what.
Tw: fascist violence, homophobia

I'm never ever compromising who I am or what I believe in, it's the only thing they cant take from us. Fuck fascists, I will love my siblings even if it kills me.
"I know there’s no way I can convince you this is not one of their tricks. But I don’t care. I am me. My name is Valerie. I don’t think i’ll live much longer, and I wanted to tell someone about my life. This is the only autobiography that i’ll ever write, and – God – i’m writing it on toilet paper. I was born in Nottingham in 1985. I don’t remember much of those early years. But I do remember the rain. My grandmother owned a farm in Tottlebrook, and she used to tell me that God was in the rain. I passed my eleven plus, and went to a girl’s grammar. It was at school that I met my first girlfriend. Her name was Sarah. It was her wrists – they were beautiful. I thought we would love each other forever. I remember our teacher telling us that it was an adolescent phase that people outgrew. Sarah did. I didn’t. In 2002 I fell in love with a girl named Christina. That year I came out to my parents. I couldn’t have done it without Chris holding my hand. My father wouldn’t look at me. He told me to go and never come back. My mother said nothing. I’d only told them the truth. Was that so selfish? Our integrity sells for so little, but it is all we really have. It is the very last inch of us. And within that inch, we are free. I’d always known what i’d wanted to do with my life, and in 2015 I started my first film: The Salt Flats. It was the most important role of my life. Not because of my career, but because that was how I met Ruth. The first time we kissed, I knew I never wanted to kiss any other lips but hers again. We moved to a small flat in London together. She grew scarlet carsons for me in our window box. And our place always smelt of roses. Those were the best years of my life. But America’s war grew worse and worse, and eventually came to London. After that there were no roses anymore. Not for anyone. I remember how the meaning of words began to change. How unfamiliar words like “collateral” and “rendition” became frightening. When things like norsefire and the articles of allegiance became powerful. I remember how different became dangerous. I still don’t understand it: why they hate us so much. They took Ruth while she was out buying food. I’ve never cried so hard in my life. It wasn’t long until they came for me. It seems strange that my life should end in such a terrible place. But for three years I had roses – and apologised to no-one. I shall die here. Every inch of me shall perish. Every inch. But one. An inch. It is small and it is fragile, and it is the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We must never let them take it from us. I hope that - whoever you are - you escape this place. I hope that the world turns, and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that even though I do not know you, and even though I may not meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you: I love you. The ugly thing about the world right now is that the same people who are actively working towards trans people’s destruction are the people that idolize V in V for Vendetta.
You’re missing the entire point of the comic series and the movie. V actively fought for gay rights. In fact, he started on his entire path of revolution because of a lesbian woman that was executed because she was thinking differently.
The Norsefire Party’s entire deal was complete control, striking songs and literature and ways of life simply because it existed opposite the party’s beliefs. It even got worse because people were killed simply for the possession of those materials. Even the Qu’ran and other religious materials that weren’t the Bible were treated as dangerous.
Sound familiar? Like maybe taking certain books out of a school library? Or the demonization of a way of life that you don’t understand? How about kicking a trans woman out of her assigned seat in State Congress to censor the truths that she speaks?
What’s worse is that the Pope, McCreedy, Adam Sutler, even the Press were all VILE AND DESPICABLE PEOPLE. The Pope was a true pedophile, McCreedy abused his power and executed the will of the vicious dictator, Adam Sutler, and the Press spewed the Norsefire Party’s homophobic, transphobic, hatred saturated nonsense to continue to hold people in perpetual fear about things THEY deemed were evil.
We are heading that direction remarkably quickly. TERFs and homophobes, especially those in our own community, be aware of the side that you are aligning yourself with because they do not offer mercy. When they come for us, they will come for you, too. Censorship and Political Authoritarianism sit in the exact same boat and siding with the Republicans will doom you to the same fate they are attempting to consign us all to. Be on the correct side of history.
“People should not be afraid of their government. The government should be afraid of its people.”

The comment Lana Wachowski made at that trans100 event - about how she knows a lot of black people that would vote against trans-friendly bathroom bills, and that they should know better because black people used to be forced to use segregated bathrooms - is probably one of the worst things I've ever heard a white LGBT celebrity say. She and her sister have a long and well-documented history of being two of the most racist people in Hollywood, and this is a perfect example.
While she didn't directly say that black people are responsible for preventing trans-friendly legislation, she still heavily implied it. She still singled out black people as opponents of trans rights. She still, for some reason, basically said that black people being transphobic is worse than nonblack people being transphobic because it's also hypocritical (never mind that you can certainly say the same for cisgay transphobes, who she never mentioned, but she felt the need to single out black people because it's... bathroom-related?) and that she expects better of them - why would you expect better treatment from a cis black person, but not from a cis white person? She also heavily implied that trans people and black people are wholly separate, mutually exclusive communities, as if there are no black trans or transfem people
@ardourie this is what came to mind instantly when I saw your posts over the last couple of days. The Wachowski sisters love to make their films & shows racially and culturally diverse, they love to fill their shit with nonwhite people (who can be cis, straight, gay, but conveniently never transgender, as if that can be chalked up to coincidence), but their respect for blackness & black people crumbles as soon as they meet a black transphobe. Suddenly black people have to be singled out as transphobic. Suddenly transphobia is worse when it comes from a black person. Suddenly blackness is antithetical to transness and suddenly those are separate communities.
The Wachowskis are racist. Lana Wachowski is racist and her remarks at the trans100 event were antiblack. Audiences are way too ready to overlook the anti-Asian racism in Cloud Atlas, they're way too ready to overlook the comments the sisters made about white saviours not being a real thing, they're way too ready to overlook the active removal of any and all references to Norsefire being racist or white supremacist in V for Vendetta (despite making it clear they're anti-LGBT!), and they're way too ready to overlook the trans100 comments. They're influential white artists, and so (like we see constantly on this platform) any attempt to address or criticise their racism is met with allegations of transphobia. It's not transphobic to point out when trans people are racist. It doesn't make you a TERF to point out when transfems are racist. It doesn't make you transphobic to point out when trans people make the LGBT community unwelcoming and hostile towards black or other nonwhite people.
The Wachowskis, their comments in real life, and the media they make, are racist. They perfectly exemplify the kind of stuff Tyler's been posting about, where they drive qpoc out of the community, decry criticism from people of colour as transmisogynistic, and are racially exclusionary in their support for LGBT rights.

Valerie's Letter
I know there’s no way I can convince you this is not one of their tricks.
With all my heart.
I love you.
-Valerie.

So I just learned there was apparently a ‘V for Vendetta’ prequel television series going on since 2019, that had young Alfred from ‘Gotham’ as its protagonist, and I repeat, I don’t mean the same actor, I mean the character, as in Alfred Pennyworth, and he slept with the Queen in the first season, and the Queen got nuked in the third season, leading to Norsefire. I repeat. The Queen Got Nuked (Blown Up with a Nuclear Weapon) in a TV series.
How have I never heard of this?

Scenes From The Shadow Gallery
Ship: V x Companion
Word Count: 962
Summary: Wanted to get something out before the end of Guy Fawkes Day, so here's the scenes in which Evey is initially brought to the Shadow Gallery and how they would play out with my s/i being there. CWs for imprisonment (though technically for both Evey and V's safety), food mentions, fire mention.

Companion had been at V’s side through every step of their plans thus far, but they had been separated when fleeing the hijacking of Britain’s largest newscasting outlet. Upon reaching the Shadow Gallery alone, Companion prepared for V’s return. He knew he had escaped, so there was only time to pass.
It was hardly even an hour before V finally turned up.
“My love,” Companion greeted as he rose from an elegant chaise. The two approached each other and he held the sides of his mask in his hands.
“My stars,” V gently took away their hands, holding onto them. “There’s something we need to discuss.”
Companion cocked his head to the side. “What is it? I thought everything’s been going according to…?”
“There’s been… a slight curveball. You remember the young woman I crossed paths with?”
Companion nodded.
“She worked at the Tower. She lent a hand in my escape, but in the process she was knocked unconscious by my assailant. I couldn’t leave her there.”
“So she’s here?”
V nodded. “Our bedroom.”
Companion’s hands slipped out of his as they anxiously wiped their palms on their trousers. “I suppose we have to keep her here, then.”
“Yes.”
“What’s she like?”
Companion could hear the smile in V’s voice as he answered, “I’m not sure yet. But I think she’s more like us than she is like them. Now then,” he approached a jukebox containing more songs blacklisted by the Norsefire party than not and began to browse. “How about some music?”
~~~
A few songs passed before Evey came out of the bedroom, intrigued by the sound of the jukebox. She jumped when Companion appeared behind it.
“You must be our guest.”
“Who are you?”
They smiled and walked around the jukebox. “V’s partner.” He extended his hand, “Pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
She hesitantly shook it. “What am I doing here?”
“Because your forehead’s swole up to a goose egg, that’s what. Ah, speaking of V…” As Companion spoke, V entered the room and Evey turned to face him. “Why don’t I let him explain what’s happening while I get you something to put on that lump?”
V nodded at him and Companion took his leave. When he returned with a bag of frozen peas, Evey had gone and V was standing to the side, appearing disgruntled. Companion sighed.
“Well, so much for these. Let me guess, she doesn’t want to stay.”
“Unfortunately for all of us. But you know what will happen if we let her go.”
Companion set aside the peas and embraced him, resting their head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around them, pressing the lips of his mask against the top of their head.
“Don’t worry, my love,” Companion hummed. V said nothing. “Just be patient with her. Any plans for breakfast?” They stepped back, looking up at him.
“Hmm… egg in a basket, perhaps? Thick-cut bacon for you, of course…” He affectionately ran his hand over their short hair.
“That sounds lovely, I'm sure Evey will be more than happy to discuss things after a meal like that."
“Yes, you’re probably right, who knows when she had lunch. We should get some rest.”
~~~
The next morning, V got up and made breakfast while Companion turned on the radio and read the morning newspaper, smiling cynically over the way their government tried to cover up V’s heroic deeds.
“Do you think we’ll make a difference?” He asked. V looked up from the stove.
“That’s up to what the masses take away from my call to action, isn’t it, my dear?”
“But do you think they listened?”
V looked over his shoulder. “I know it’s easy to be pessimistic, Companion, but look what we’ve done so far. Somebody, even if it’s just one person, listened yesterday. Eventually, it will snowball. But until then, we can only rely on optimism, yes?”
Companion swallowed, nodding in agreement as he closed the paper.
“V--” Evey had appeared, looking sheepish. V turned completely toward her.
“Ah, bonjour mademoiselle.”
“I wanted to apologize for how I reacted last night.”
“Hm.”
“I understand what you’ve done for me and I want you to know that I’m grateful…” She trailed off as her eyes shifted away from his mask. “Your hands…”
“Yes…” V quickly turned away to put on his gloves while Companion stood and began to pour fresh tea. “There, that’s better. I hope I didn’t put you off your appetite.”
“Oh, no, please, I just… are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine,” V mumbled, losing himself in the cooking again.
“Do you mind if I ask what happened?”
“There was a fire,” V and Companion spoke at once, both freezing and refusing to look at Evey.
“We were both in it, but V… suffered the most,” Companion continued, stretching his own gloved hands before chuckling softly. “You should see my back.”
“It’s ancient history, for some,” V added.
“But it doesn’t make for very good table conversation, so,” Companion held up the tea tray, “Would you like some tea with your eggs?”
“Oh, yes, that would be wonderful, I’m starving actually…”
“Then please, take a seat,” V instructed, plating the toast he had made and placing it on the table. Evey sat and Companion handed her one of the cups.
“I never caught your name,” she mentioned to him. “You only introduced yourself as V’s partner…”
“Yes, Evey, this is my dearest Companion. We’ve been through many a disquiet together.” V squeezed one of their hands affectionately.
“But his name…?”
“That’s it. Companion,” they explained before smiling. “Bit on the nose, isn’t it?” They took up their own seat as V served a second plate.
“Aren’t you going to eat?”
“Thank you for the concern, Evey, but I already have.”

one of the weirdest things in one piece is how all the dressrosans are fine with what happened in the dressrosa arc.
imagine you're a middle-class citizen of a first-world country (if you already are, great, this'll be easy). you're not the best person, you're not the worst person, but you do what you can. then out of nowhere, your home is probably destroyed, most of your country is destroyed, you might've lost people, it's a disaster. then before you can process it you find out your new leader and a lot of other people are fine with it being an impoverished, pacifist country from now on. your old life is GONE, you're never getting it back and you didn't do anything wrong. and if you get upset about it people probably call you a fascist sympathizer.
now i'm not a doflamingo apologist. obviously a lot of people are going to be happy their enslaving, mind-raping, self-genocidal rulers are gone. i just don't get how EVERYONE is. this isn't alabasta or fishman island where it was a failed coup or skypiea where enel's rule hardly helped anyone or even wano where the country was colonized and most people already hated kaido. the average citizen seems to have benefited in some ways from doflamingo's rule. and now there's a regime change. a total reversal of course for the country. and under the circumstances above is everyone going to be thinking rationally? of course not. some people are going to blame outsiders for taking doflamingo down or convince themselves dressrosa was an inside job. some will want the old ways back by any means necessary. there's going to be tension. there could be civil war.
considering one piece could end with the whole world government being taken down and liberating people is a MASSIVE theme, it'd be nice to see talk of what happens after. even just a passing mention that dressrosa is in a civil war would be awesome (and how will the pacifist king and his supporters respond to an uprising? the gears are turning...)
it could also be a way to explore how scary luffy is for the average person. even ignoring government propaganda, the straw hats are a bunch of literal monsters who go around spreading truth and revolution. just cause it's a good thing doesn't mean everyone's ready for it. most of us wouldn't be. there's never a "right time" for these things.
it's like the ending of v for vendetta. the government is very clearly evil, but once it's gone britain is chaotic and confused and the people are still the same as they've always been. v changed some minds but taking down the government didn't instantly convert the whole country or reveal 90% of people already hated norsefire anyway.
in the future there could be the happy ending v wanted, evey might guide the people to his anarchist vision, but she might fail and the story ends right after the fall without telling you which. the people have to choose their future for themselves. sometimes people choose wrong.

Vladimir Sorov and Dex-Starr, the Red Wizard and the Great Beast of the Crimson Starheart
One of the Soviet Union’s state-sponsored People’s Heroes during WWII and some years after, Sorov was initially an enemy to Alan Scott before Diana’s mediation and the mutual threat of Germany’s Yellow Lantern brought them to a truce, and eventually to friendship. His friendship with Diana led him to spend sometime with the Justice Society Dark before that team’s tragic dissolution.
Sorov’s relationship with his government soured after the kidnapping of his infant daughter, a last-ditch attempt to create a Soviet Lantern Brigade after replicating the Crimson Starheart or creating an artificial equivalent proved fruitless*.
Barred from Russian airspace, Sorov would spend most of his time in other parts of the world or the cosmos. His first encounter with other red lanterns--the army of Atros--would come in an unusual form. Encountering a strange cat on his travels that possessed abilities similar to his own, Dex-Starr and Sorov became something of an inseparable pair, Sorov growing out his hair and bead and adopting something of mystic’s air in contrast to the errant knight of his old wartime rival.
It was the baptism of Jack Moore into the Red Light that brought Sorov back to Earth full time. A bookish young British man and the only surviving member of a family of activists who worked against Britain’s fascist Raven Union and Norsefire parties, Jack’s role as Rancor forced Sorov into a confrontation he had been avoiding since learning Dex-Starr’s origins: a confrontation with Atrocitus of Ysmault.
*The Church of Blood would set up shop in post-Soviet Russia under [Redacted] for some time, but Brother Blood’s...proclivities...failed to produce anything other than a mountain of dead bodies.

V For Vendetta
“V For Vendetta” is thought-provoking while also delivering nail-biting action from a charismatic mystery man.
V is a masked anarchist terrorist who wants to start a revolution against the fascist Norsefire party of Britain. One night, he saves Evey Hammond from getting raped by Norsefire’s secret police. He asks if he can show her something and she agrees. He takes her to see the demolition of the Old Bailey and reveals that it was his own doing. Evey soon learns that she has gotten involved in something much bigger than she could’ve ever imagined.
I never shy away from the fact that I’m a DC fanboy and that extends to the DC Vertigo comics. “V For Vendetta”, “Watchmen”, and “Batman: The Killing Joke” are the main reason why I give Alan Moore such high praise. Now, I know he’s not a fan of the movie adaptations of his works. To be completely honest, I hated the movie version of “Batman: The Killing Joke”. “V For Vendetta” and “Watchmen” have had significant portions changed for their movie adaptations. This has also changed the messaging for those two carefully crafted masterpieces. I’d argue that the changes still make for an enjoyable story and might even be better for it. For “Watchmen”, Zack Snyder changed the ending of the book from a random alien invasion to pinning a nuke on Dr. Manhattan. I thought it tied everything together a lot better than the books. In “V For Vendetta”, the themes of fascism and the complacency of the people were more ambiguous as to who was to blame. In the movie, there are clear good guys and bad guys. The movie also changes the reason for the rise of totalitarianism. Instead of nuclear fallout, it’s instead because of a virus that’s later revealed to be manufactured by the Norsefire party to get rich. This further cements the clear good guys from the bad guys. Still, I think this change makes for a whole new message that still works. Instead of exploring the ambiguity of governmental oppression, the movie focuses on the liberation from that oppression. I know a lot of people also complain about the overabundance of action in this movie, but I thought it was used sparingly. The times they did use action, it was top-notch. For a movie with a knife-wielding man in a Guy Fawkes mask, you’re going to have action scenes. There’s really no way around it. You also need to sell your movie, so it’s a bit of a give-and-take. It also leaves a guy like me who enjoys the philosophical aspects, while also enjoying dope knife fights, a lot to love about the film. Just like Rorschach from “Watchmen”, V is not supposed to be a good guy. But, they’re just so cool that you’re glued to every word they say. I think that’s what great characters do. They make you root for them, even when you know they’re wrong. Definitely check this movie out if you haven’t already.
