How to Remove Fluoride from Drinking Water?
Fluoride and drinking water- sounds a bit strange, doesn’t it?
But what if we tell you your drinking water has fluoride as well? No, we are not kidding!
It is often added to your tap water in order to improve your overall oral health without doing anything additional.
If you’ve seen any of those toothpaste ads, you’ve likely heard a thing or two about fluoride. It is a mineral found in nature – in water, soil, and some foods. It is also added to some toothpaste, mouthwash, and other dental products. Fluoride is important for dental health because it helps to strengthen teeth and make them more resistant to decay.
However, it is important to note that drinking water filled with excess amounts of fluoride is not good for you in the long run. It not only has the potential to cause dental fluorosis but also other health problems like nausea and diarrhea as well.
In this blog post, we will discuss why fluoride is added to your drinking water, why too much fluoride is not good for you, and how to remove fluoride from drinking water.
So sit back, relax, and let’s dive in!
Why is fluoride added to your drinking water?
Before we understand how to remove fluoride from drinking water, let’s understand what fluoride is. Just like what we talked about above, Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that has been shown to be effective in preventing tooth decay. It is added to drinking water in many communities around the world to help people maintain good oral health.
There are two main reasons why fluoride is added to water:
1. To prevent tooth decay
Fluoride works by making teeth more resistant to the acids produced by bacteria in the mouth. These acids can break down tooth enamel and lead to cavities. Fluoride also helps to repair early signs of tooth decay.
2. To strengthen your pearly whites
Fluoride helps to strengthen tooth enamel, making teeth less likely to chip or crack. The safe level of fluoride in drinking water varies depending on the age of the person and the climate. The World Health Organization recommends a fluoride concentration of 0.5 to 1.0 milligrams per liter (mg/L) for adults and children over the age of 8.
Let’s have a look at some of the problems caused by large amounts of fluoride and why it is important for everyone to know how to remove fluoride from drinking water.
What are the health problems caused by fluoride in drinking water?
Excessive fluoride in drinking water has the potential to cause various health issues, giving rise to a range of side effects:
1. Dental Fluorosis
One of the most common consequences of high fluoride levels is dental fluorosis. This condition manifests as discoloration and pitting of tooth enamel, impacting dental aesthetics and, in severe cases, functionality.
2. Skeletal Fluorosis
Prolonged exposure to high fluoride concentrations in drinking water can affect bone health, leading to skeletal fluorosis. Symptoms include joint pain, stiffness, and impaired mobility, reflecting the adverse impact on the skeletal system.
3. Neurological Concerns
Studies have explored a potential link between increased fluoride intake and adverse effects on cognitive function. While not conclusively proven, these findings raise concerns about neurological health in areas with high amounts of fluoride in drinking water.
This is why one needs to learn how to remove fluoride from drinking water. It is better to be careful of the fluoride levels in drinking water to prevent these adverse health effects. A delicate balance is required to get fluoride’s positive benefits on dental health while eliminating potential risks to our health.

How to remove fluoride from drinking water?
If you’re concerned about how to remove fluoride from drinking water and seek methods for removal, here’s a comprehensive guide on how to achieve pure and fluoride-free drinking water.
1. Reverse Osmosis (RO)
Among various methods, Reverse Osmosis (RO) stands out as one of the most effective ways to remove fluoride from your water. RO systems use a semi-permeable membrane to filter out impurities, including fluoride ions. The process ensures a high removal rate, making it a reliable choice for households concerned about fluoride in their water supply. If you are researching on how to remove fluoride from drinking water, this option is the most reliable and cost-effective one
2. Bone Char Carbon Filters
Bone char carbon filters utilize a natural adsorption process to remove fluoride. Made from animal bones, these filters have a porous structure that captures fluoride ions. It’s essential to note that this method may have limitations, and filter quality can vary.
3. Distillation
Here is one method on how to remove fluoride from drinking water. Distillation involves heating water to create steam, which is then condensed back into liquid form. This method effectively eliminates fluoride, along with other contaminants, leaving you with purified water. While distillation can be energy-intensive, its thorough purification process makes it a viable option for those seeking fluoride-free water.

4. Activated Alumina Filters
Activated alumina is a filter media known for its ability to adsorb fluoride ions from water. These filters work by attracting and holding fluoride, reducing its concentration in the treated water. While effective, it’s crucial to replace activated alumina filters regularly to maintain their efficiency.
5. Ion Exchange Filters
Ion exchange filters replace fluoride ions with less harmful ions, effectively reducing fluoride levels. However, regular maintenance and the need for regeneration make this method more complex compared to others.

TEL AVIV — Ilana Decker, who moved from Israel to New York three years ago, says she doesn’t agree often with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Arguing, as he does, that the government should not make health mandates, she said, makes her “sound like an anti-vaxxer, which I’m not.”
But there is one issue, she said, where she and Kennedy do line up: The man whom Donald Trump has picked as the next secretary of health and human services has publicly floated ending the decades-long policy of encouraging cities to inject fluoride into the American water supply.
Decker supports the change — and she’s speaking from personal experience: Her former home, Israel, stopped fluoridating its water a decade ago.
“I hate to align with RFK Jr. in any way, shape, or form, but I really do agree that it should not be in the water,” she said. Citing concerns about the risk to children, she even switched her 4-year-old to fluoride-free toothpaste, though she didn’t rule out its use fully.
“I have a deep distrust in the government taking away individual health choices ‘for our own good,’” Decker said. “I can use toothpaste with fluoride, but I can’t decide to not drink the water coming out of my faucet.”
The nomination of Kennedy, an anti-vaccine activist and harsh critic of government health agencies, has cast a spotlight on debates over the role the government should play in public health — and over the degree to which mounting distrust in science should guide policy-making.
Fluoridation offers a case study in those debates. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fluoridation in water has been shown to reduce cavities in children and adults by about 25% over a lifetime, with the organization dubbing it “one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.”
Critics of fluoridation point to studies showing that very high levels of the mineral — beyond what is normally present in fluoridated water — are associated with developmental problems in children; they also cite an array of conspiracy theories, including that the government is seeking to control citizens through fluoride use.
Kennedy has called fluoride “an industrial waste” and “dangerous neurotoxin” and said that he would seek to end fluoridation on “day one” after taking office. (Water is managed locally, so the federal government can only advise and incentivize changes.) As with vaccines, he has said the use of fluoride should be up to individuals, not the government.
“I think fluoride is on its way out,” he said on NBC News shortly after Trump’s election last month. “I think the faster that it goes out, the better.”
Those same debates lay at the root of the decision in 2013 by Israel’s health minister to end water fluoridation. Now, Israel’s policy change could act as a case study for how defluoridation could affect Americans. And the discourse is ongoing, with Israeli public health experts and some parents agitating for fluoride to be reinserted in the water — citing worsening dental outcomes for children — at the very moment when the United States may move in the opposite direction.
“The success of water fluoridation serves as a beacon for public health in general, and by extension, opposition to it should serve as a warning,” said Shlomo Zusman, who served as Israel’s chief dental officer for over two decades and was a vocal critic of the 2014 policy change.
He said modern water purification methods mean that fluoridation is far from the only way the modern water supply is altered. In addition, he noted that because 75% of Israel’s potable water is desalinated, it has no natural fluoride levels at all.
“The idea that water without added fluoride is ‘natural,’ as if it comes straight from a spring, is mistaken – there’s no such thing, it’s all manipulated,” he said. Referring to a story in the Bible, he added, “The days of Rachel pumping water from the well are long gone.”
Israel began mandating fluoridation in nearly all municipalities decades ago, following the first local American fluoridation efforts. An Israeli Health Ministry webpage calls fluoridation “the most efficient, safest, simplest, cheapest, and most equal measure, by a significant margin, among all methods for preventing dental diseases in the general public.”
But in 2013, the health minister, Yael German, pledged to stop requiring fluoridation the following year, citing unnamed doctors who she said had personally told her that fluoridation presents risks to pregnant women, people with thyroid problems and the elderly. Like Kennedy and his followers, she also cited the importance of individual choice.
“All things considered, and balancing all the interests, I feel that continued massive fluoridation of 100% of the water was an incorrect act,” German wrote to an association of pediatricians that was one of several groups to publicly oppose her plan. “And many even believe it infringes on fundamental rights and freedom of choice.”
The government that succeeded German’s term in office pledged to reintroduce fluoride — prompting legal action from German — but it has not been mandated again in Israel.
Since discontinuing fluoride in tap water, Israeli dentists have observed a significant rise in children’s cavities and have urged its reinstatement, even as some parents remain firmly against the idea.
A study published in September found a significant increase in dental restorations and crowns among Israeli children ages 3 to 5, attributing the rise to fluoride’s absence. The researchers, from the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, concluded that the results provided “further proof of the need to restore community water fluoridation in Israel.”
Another study, published in January 2022, analyzed six years of data from dental clinics affiliated with a national Israeli healthcare network, showing that children ages 3 to 12 required nearly double the number of restorative treatments compared to before fluoridation ended. Researchers emphasized that even Israel’s expansion of free dental care for all children failed to offset the worsening dental health.
With fluoridation the subject of widespread misinformation as well as ongoing research, Israel is not the only place to adjust its approach over time. Juneau, Alaska, saw pediatric dental health worsen after eliminating fluoride in 2007, according to a study that examined the cost and frequency of dental treatment for poor children. So did the Canadian city of Calgary, which recorded higher rates of cavity-related treatments under general anesthesia among children after it stopped adding fluoride to its water in 2011. Calgary has now decided to resume fluoridation. But dozens of municipalities across the United States have moved away from fluoride use in recent years, including some whose voters made the choice on Election Day last month.
Most of Europe, meanwhile, has either dropped fluoridation or never introduced it in drinking water. Many of those countries offer fluoridated salt and milk, mitigating the potential costs of not including the mineral in water.
Not everyone in Israel is convinced that reintroducing fluoride is a good idea. In one Israeli mothers’ group on Facebook, several women posited that the country’s cavity epidemic has less to do with the absence of fluoride in water and more to do with poor hygiene habits and children’s consumption of sweets and sugary snacks.
“Kids subsisting on white bread and chocolate spread isn’t helping,” wrote one, naming a popular Israeli snack.
Another, who identified herself as a teacher with 25 years of experience, agreed that there has been a significant decline in nutrition.
“I can say with 100% certainty that children’s diets have deteriorated immensely and it just so happens to coincide with the removal of fluoride,” she said.
Several cited a recent study from the National Institutes of Health’s National Toxicology Program that suggests that high levels of fluoride exposure may be linked to lower IQ in children. The report does not question the dental health benefits of fluoride.
The program reviewed more than 500 studies over nearly a decade and concluded with “moderate confidence” that fluoride exposure at concentrations above 1.5 parts per million is associated with reduced cognitive development in children. But the study, which drew criticism from the American Academy of Pediatrics, also noted that that number was far above the recommended fluoride level in U.S. drinking water of 0.7 parts per million.
Another study from May of this year found that prenatal exposure to fluoride was linked to behavioral problems, with children of mothers in areas with higher fluoride concentrations showing symptoms of autism, anxiety and other disorders by age 3, though the authors stopped short of establishing causation.
Zusman dismissed many of the concerns about health risks as a fad.
“There was a time when they claimed fluoridation caused hip fractures, then cancer, and later stunted growth in boys” caused by osteosarcoma, he said. “Now the fashion is ADHD and IQ, so they blame fluoridation on that.”
He said that just like parents who oppose fluoridation, the issue is personal to him, too.
“Believe me, if there were serious, professional studies showing harm, I’d be the first to say, stop fluoridating the water,” he said. “I have eight grandchildren to think of.”

AP, via The Guardian:
Robert F Kennedy Jr, a prominent proponent of debunked public health claims whom Donald Trump has promised to put in charge of health initiatives, said Saturday that the former president would push to remove fluoride from drinking water on his first day in office if elected. Fluoride strengthens teeth and reduces cavities by replacing minerals lost during normal wear-and-tear, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The addition of low levels of fluoride to drinking water has long been considered one of the greatest public health achievements of the last century. Kennedy made the declaration Saturday on Twitter/X alongside a variety of claims about the heath effects of fluoride. “On January 20, the Trump White House will advise all U.S. water systems to remove fluoride from public water,” Kennedy wrote. Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, “want to Make America Healthy Again”, he added, repeating a phrase Trump often uses and links to Kennedy.
Trump told NBC News on Sunday that he had not spoken to Kennedy about fluoride yet, “but it sounds OK to me. You know it’s possible.” The Republican nominee declined to say whether he would seek a cabinet role for Kennedy, a job that would require Senate confirmation, but added: “He’s going to have a big role in the administration.” Asked whether banning certain vaccines would be on the table, Trump said he would talk to Kennedy and others about that. Trump described Kennedy as “a very talented guy and has strong views”. The sudden and unexpected weekend social media post evoked the chaotic policymaking that defined Trump’s White House tenure, when he would issue policy declarations on Twitter at virtually all hours. It also underscored the concerns many experts have about Kennedy, who has long promoted debunked theories about vaccine safety, having influence over US public health.
In 1950, federal officials endorsed water fluoridation to prevent tooth decay, and continued to promote it even after fluoride toothpaste brands hit the market several years later. Though fluoride can come from a number of sources, drinking water is the main source for Americans, researchers say.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a deluded kook who should not be anywhere near power.

current dental products that magz use + review
Colgate Periogard Toothbrush - a soft bristle toothbrush. way more gentle than average toothbrush, which helpful if have sensitive gums or difficulty control strength in hand consistent.
does not specifically have to be this brand. used to use coco floss toothbrush which was even more gentle. used to bleed way more with normal toothbrush bristles, even lost part of gum line as result thus soft bristle better for magz use. colgate periogard more affordable + easier to get (for magz) than cocofloss toothbrush also.
-
Coco Floss dental floss (with refill) - main product, a soft floss made of coconut fiber to use between teeth. the marketing is more focused on sustainability and environmental friendliness - however, not continually affordable. any floss fine as long as can use it - though interdental picks and proxybrushes can work better if have shaky hands. because cocofloss fibruous, ocassionally have split ends if too rough on it...
alternative of water flosser more expensive (do not have) but more sustainable... if can handle have tool that shoot water, potentially messy.
-
Davids Toothpaste - a nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste, comes with a tool to squeeze out more toothpaste from the tube. magz personally use alternate between normal fluoride n this. nano-hydroxyapatite an artificial form of what teeth are made of, with potential to aid in rebuild teeth material (small level). kinda cost bit more than average toothpaste... use small amount when do use.
Not fan of specifically Davids spearmint toothpaste taste and not sure if amount of baking soda have adequate low levels for toothpaste (too high can be issue).
hydroxyapatite toothpaste Is more commonly used in Japan, but hydroxyapatite derived toothpastes were invented by NASA.
(Do not have same risk of overdose as prescription high concentrated fluoride toothpastes, which don't recommed if have inadvertent swallowing). However, don't get Davids *charcoal* version of toothpaste or any charcoal toothpaste, they are generally too abrasive for teeth n charcoal have potential for mess with medication (over-counter n prescription)
-
Orabrush Tongue Scraper - specified tool for cleaning the tongue, as toothbrushes are not great at it. works pretty alright. has good handle like toothbrush so though. drink water afterwards tho, as it scrapes salive on tongue too. Does not activate magz gag reflex somehow unlike when use toothbrush for tongue.
-
PUR gum (xylitol) aspartame free - xylitol useful for make teeth slippery, thus make it harder for food to get stuck to some teeth surface. spearmint flavor specifically not have good aftertaste. Is a dental hygiene recommended gum. Potentially affordable for amount can get (in bulk).
chewing gum is useful for thinking and habit also, though normal sugar gums not great for teeth, so xylitol gum have best of both. Does not specifically have to be this brand but has its own benefits (it have listing where ingredients derived from and avoid common allergies)
Warning: xylitol can be dangerous n fatal for pets so keep out of reach (magz not live with the pets atm, so is fine). is like concentrated chocolate n grapes level of danger for dogs and cats.
Ran out. sad.
(bonus: 4% hydrogen peroxide, which dilute in water for disenfectant. AFTER brushing teeth. use very infrequent.)

Take Care of your Child’s Teeth with Smile Dental Avenue...
Your child’s first teeth, or baby teeth, are important. Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth. Taking care of your child’s teeth will protect your child from decay (cavities).
Tooth decay can:
Cause your child pain
Make it hard for your child to chew
Make your child embarrassed to speak or smile
Create problems along with your child’s adult teeth
Most babies will get their first tooth between ages 4 months and seven months.
Start these healthy habits now so your child’s smile will stay healthy!
Start cleaning your child’s teeth as soon as they start erupting in the mouth
Teach your child to brush 2 times on a daily basis.
Protect your child’s teeth with fluoride.
Give your child healthy, low-sugar foods and drinks.
Take your child to the dentist for normal checkups.
Even if you had cavities , it does not suggest that your child must necessarily develop them. There are plethora of ways to protect children’s teeth from decay. Practices like using fluoride to strengthen teeth and eating a diet can set your child up for a healthy smile always.
Brushing and regular dental visits can help. Eating a healthy diet can help to nourish young teeth and gums. Also ensure your children brush their teeth with a fluoride toothpaste as soon as kids are the right age to spit, getting fluoride treatments at your practice and getting a tiny low amount of this mineral through water and a few foods can set your child up for cavity protection. similar to adults; brush your child’s teeth twice every day with toothpaste. brushing can be made fun by using fruit flavoured toothpaste. Older kids may enjoy a toothpaste with cavity protection.
See your best dentist in Noida and talk about what proportion fluoride your child is exposed to. Your Dentist may advice you to use fluoride supplements .Additionally one can start using a fluoride toothpaste. It’s important to use fluoride as a part of a healthy oral care routine. When kids are still young, they need help and assistance while brushing their teeth. For those independent spirits, allow them to brush first and so you’ll brush a second time. Floss your child’s teeth for them to get rid of plaque from the gum line and between teeth.
Healthy Eating Habits Another way to guard your child’s teeth from cavities is to create a healthy diet, a component of your family’s lifestyle. reduce sugary snacks and starchy foods. Crunchy foods like apples, carrots, almonds and cucumber make wonderful snacks for developing teeth. Serve whole grains and lots of low fat dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt.
Encourage brushing after meals. With good oral hygiene and healthy habits, you’ll make sure that your kids are going to be less likely to develop complicated dental issues Sealants
Like fluoride, dental sealants can give children a vantage on good oral health. Dental sealants are thin, tooth-colored invisible coatings that are applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the posterior teeth to guard them from decay. Most dental caries in children and youths occurs on these surfaces. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces from dental caries by keeping bacteria and food particles out of those grooves.

How to Remove Thyroid- and Pineal-Damaging Fluoride with Iodine?
Fluoride, a common element in drinking water and dental care products, is celebrated for its cavity-fighting abilities. However, excessive fluoride exposure can negatively affect your thyroid and pineal glands, which play critical roles in hormone regulation and overall health.
Fortunately, iodine has been identified as a helpful nutrient in reducing fluoride’s negative impacts. This article explores how iodine works to counteract fluoride and provides practical tips for safely incorporating it into your daily routine.
Understanding Excessive Fluoride’s Negative Impacts
Excessive fluoride can disrupt thyroid function by inhibiting iodine absorption, which is needed to produce thyroid hormones. This inhibition can lead to hypothyroidism, characterized by weight gain, fatigue, and depression.
The pineal gland, located in the brain, is crucial for producing melatonin, which regulates sleep patterns. Excessive fluoride may contribute to decreased melatonin production and sleep disturbances.
The Role of Iodine
Iodine helps keep your thyroid healthy and is crucial for synthesizing thyroid hormones. Adequate iodine intake can help the thyroid gland function optimally, even in the presence of fluoride. Iodine can help displace fluoride from the body, reducing its accumulation in the glands. Ensuring the thyroid has enough iodine can maintain normal hormone production despite fluoride exposure.
Safe Practices for Using Iodine
Before adding significant amounts of iodine to your diet, consult a healthcare provider particularly if you have existing thyroid issues. Keep an eye on your iodine intake to avoid toxicity, which can be just as harmful as deficiency. Ensure a well-rounded diet to support overall glandular health.
Boost Your Thyroid and Pineal Health with 9-ODINE
With 9-ODINE, you can ensure your thyroid and pineal glands are protected, promoting better hormonal balance and overall well-being. This specially formulated supplement is designed to enhance your body’s iodine levels, helping to displace harmful fluoride and support optimal gland function. L O V E . W A T E R
In 1999, Masaru Emoto began publishing his findings on the effects of human conscious intention on the formation of water crystals. He found that exposing water to different words, pictures, or music had different effects of the formation of the water crystals when frozen. Water exposed to positive thoughts and images formed beautiful geometric crystalline structures when frozen and water exposed to negative thoughts and images formed distorted and chaotic ice structures (pictures below in comments). In 2004 Emoto published the book ‘Hidden Messages in Water’, which became a New York Times best seller.
A basic understanding of quantum physics demonstrates that conscious human intention can determine the properties of sub-atomic particles and how they manifest in our physical world. Photons of light can either manifest as waves or particles depending on various experimental expectations, as one example. On a quantum level, all sub-atomic particles are made of energy which manifest into our physical reality as the building blocks of matter. The perception of matter as solid and physical on the level of classical mechanics does not change the nature of the sub-atomic energy as it is the foundation of all matter. Everything is energy, and human conscious intention can affect this energy and how it behaves and manifests in our physical reality.
Humans are on average composed of around one-half to two-thirds water, with our brain and heart at around 73%, lungs 83%, skin 64%, and our muscles and kidneys at 79%. Around two-thirds of the water in our bodies is within our cells and the rest is within extracellular fluid. Water is an essential component of our bodies and our conscious intention in relation to this water is an incredible opportunity for purification, cleansing, and personal transformation.
We should all be drinking plenty of non-fluoridated water every day to maintain healthy biological functioning. This is a gift you give yourself. The benefits are innumerable to a healthy state of being at the physical, mental, and spiritual level. But would you rather drink a glass of normal water or a glass of water that holds the conscious intention of Love? What kind of water do you want to become your body?
Before you drink a glass of water, breathe consciously, and center yourself in your meditative mind. Feel the state of Love within you and project the conscious intention of Love into your glass of water. With pure intention, this will only take a moment. The intention of Love is now within the energy of the molecules, atoms, and sub-atomic particles of the water. Drink the Love water and feel the conscious intentional state of being of pure Divine Love from your Spirit. Feel the Love water in your body as it permeates all your organs and cells.
If you offered me two glasses of water, one infused with the intention of Love and one of hate, I most certainly would choose the Love water every time. I would also choose the Love water over normal water because I know the power of conscious intention.
Do this every time you drink a glass of water. Just imagine the effects within your body once all the water has been replaced with Love water. Feel the Love water permeate through every cell and organ in your body as it becomes your body.
If we froze your body, in theory, the water throughout would form beautiful crystalline patterns in the ice crystals in alignment with the sacred geometry of Creation. In its liquid state the Love water still holds alignment with the Divine.
Now let’s imagine your body on its own as a glass of water where your intentions affect the energy and crystalline structure of all the water molecules and other elements throughout. Conscious intentions of Love towards yourself will affect the physical reality of your body. Your body itself will hold your conscious intention. If you speak to yourself with intentions of Love, your body will hold this intention and be in alignment with the Divine. If you speak to yourself with negative thoughts and intentions, your body will hold this energy, and it will permeate through every organ and cell.
Throughout the day, practice sending the conscious intention of Love to yourself just as we did in the creation of the Love water. It only takes a moment of pure intention. Imagine the effect this has on your body. Now imagine the opposite effect where your thoughts are of self-hate and negativity. The power of this intention is just as powerful, and your body will respond in kind. This negativity will permeate through every cell and organ in your body.
Be vigilant over your thoughts and how you speak about yourself to yourself. Be vigilant of thoughts you project towards others in the privacy of your own mind for that privacy is an illusion and your intentions, though silent in sound, have the power of Love, compassion, and kindness, or they have the power of fear, hate, and negativity.
Project the conscious intention of Love towards your friends and family who are also made of water and sub-atomic energy. Project Love to the Earth which is covered 70% in water. Project conscious intentional Love to all of Humanity, all sentient beings, and to all plants which all contain water and energy. Project Love to all of Creation, to all of Existence.
Your conscious intentions of Love can turn an ordinary glass of water into Love water just as you can turn your physical body into a body of Love. There is no order of magnitude in acts of Love. Your only limitation is your own self-imposed limiting beliefs.
Project this Love into your water, yourself, and all of Creation. Imagine the effects it will have.
I know I prefer a world of Love just as I prefer a glass of Love water.
🤍

Dental Care During Pregnancy: Tips for Maintaining Oral Health for Expectant Mothers
Pregnancy is an exciting and transformative journey in a woman’s life, especially for new mothers. It’s a time of significant change for a woman’s body, and maintaining good oral health during this period is essential. Hormonal changes can raise the risk of dental problems such as gum disease and tooth decay, which can affect both the mother and the developing baby. However, many myths exist about dental care safety during pregnancy.
Signs and symptoms of dental problems during pregnancy • Gum inflammation • Increased plaque build-up • Tooth decay • Periodontal disease • Dry mouth • Excessive salivation • Enamel erosion
Here are some essential tips for maintaining oral health during pregnancy: Maintaining a consistent and regular oral hygiene routine is essential during pregnancy period. Brush your teeth at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and floss daily to prevent plaque and remove food particles that can cause tooth decay and gum disease. An antimicrobial mouthwash can also help reduce plaque and bacteria in the mouth. Morning sickness is common during pregnancy and can contribute to dental problems due to the increased exposure to stomach acids. To protect your teeth, rinse your mouth with water or a mouthwash after vomiting. Avoid brushing your teeth immediately after vomiting, as the stomach acid can soften tooth enamel, making it more sensitive to erosion.
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can lead to pregnancy gingivitis, which is characterized by red, swollen, and bleeding gums. Practicing good oral hygiene, visiting your dentist regularly, and using an antibacterial mouthwash can help control and prevent pregnancy gingivitis. If you notice significant gum bleeding or discomfort, consult the Dentist in HSR Layout, Bangalore for appropriate treatment and consultation.
Sugar cravings in pregnant women are common but consuming too much sugar intake can cause dental issues like cavities and plaque. Instead, choose more nutritious options high in protein and fiber to help control blood sugar levels and keep you feeling full. These choices support long-term dental health and improve overall health for both you and your child. Drinking plenty of water is important for maintaining good oral health. Water helps rinse away food particles and bacteria, lowering the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. It also helps maintain a normal and healthy flow of saliva, which is important for neutralizing acids and protecting tooth enamel.
Understanding how pregnancy can affect your teeth and gums will help you take proactive steps to maintain your oral hygiene. Healthy Habits for a Brighter Smile – Advice from Our Experts
Introduction
Accomplishing and keeping a radiant smile goes past brushing your teeth. At Ty King, DDS, our specialists are devoted to giving complete counsel on developing healthy dental habits for a brighter and more confident smile. We should dig into the key practices that can have a tremendous effect.
Regular Dental Checkups
Consistent dental checkups are the cornerstone of good oral health. Our specialists prescribe planning bi-annual visits to recognize any expected issues early. These routine checkups permit us to screen your oral health, give professional cleanings, and address concerns before they escalate.
Proper Brushing Techniques
Mastering the art of appropriate brushing techniques is pivotal for keeping up with optimal oral hygiene. Utilize a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush in gentle, circular motions, arriving at all surfaces of your teeth and gums. This guarantees the evacuation of plaque and forestalls cavities and gum disease.
Flossing Matters
While brushing is fundamental, it's similarly essential to floss regularly. Flossing can get rid of food particles and plaque from places your toothbrush might not be able to reach. Make it a daily habit to advance healthy gums and forestall cavities between teeth.
Choose a Balanced Diet
Eating a well-balanced diet promotes general health and makes your smile more radiant. Consolidate fruits, vegetables, and dairy products into your feasts. Foods rich in calcium, like dairy, strengthen teeth, while crunchy fruits and vegetables help clean them normally.
Limit Sugary and Acidic Foods
Excessive consumption of sugary and acidic foods can prompt tooth decay and enamel erosion. Our specialists instruct restricting the admission concerning sugary snacks and acidic beverages. Whenever consumed, make a point to flush your mouth or brush your teeth afterward to limit likely harm.
Stay Hydrated
Adequate hydration is fundamental for your overall health, including oral health. Drinking water lowers the risk of cavities by flushing away food particles and bacteria. Settle on water, your beverage of choice, to keep a very much-hydrated and healthy smile.
Avoid Tobacco Products
There is no denying that tobacco use hurts dental health. Smoking or utilizing other tobacco products expands the gamble of gum disease, tooth decay, and oral cancers. Avoiding tobacco is an essential step towards accomplishing and safeguarding a brighter smile.
Consider Teeth-Whitening Options
If you want to improve your smile's brightness, our specialists can examine teeth-whitening choices custom-made to your needs. Professional teeth-whitening strategies can eliminate stains and staining, leaving you with a dazzling, certain smile.
Protect Your Teeth During Physical Activities
Are you engaging in sports or physical activities? Safeguarding your teeth is essential. Our specialists prescribe wearing a mouthguard to forestall wounds that could prompt chipped or broken teeth. Focus on your oral health by going to preventive lengths during recreational pursuits.
Stress Management for Oral Health
Believe it or not, stress management is linked to oral health. High stress levels can add to teeth grinding and jaw clenching, prompting likely dental issues. Integrate stress-reducing activities into your routine to advance mental well-being and a healthier smile.
Conclusion
At Ty King DDS, your trusted dentist in Rogers, we believe in empowering our patients with the information and direction required for optimal oral health. By embracing these healthy propensities, you can prepare for a more brilliant, more sure grin. Plan a consultation with our specialists for personalized advice and comprehensive dental care.

Essential minerals need to add in drinking water?
Essential minerals are important for human health, and they can be naturally present in drinking water or added through treatment processes. The specific minerals required in drinking water can vary depending on local conditions and individual dietary needs. However, here are some essential minerals that are commonly found in drinking water and play important roles in human health mineral drops:
Calcium: Calcium is essential for the development and maintenance of strong bones and teeth. It also plays a role in muscle function, blood clotting, and nerve transmission.
Magnesium: Magnesium is important for muscle and nerve function, as well as for maintaining healthy bones and regulating blood pressure.
Sodium: Sodium is needed for maintaining proper fluid balance in the body and for nerve and muscle function. However, excessive sodium intake can lead to high blood pressure and other health issues.
Potassium: Potassium is necessary for proper heart and muscle function, as well as for maintaining normal blood pressure.
Iron: Iron is essential for the production of red blood cells and the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. However, excessive iron in drinking water can have adverse health effects.
Zinc: Zinc is important for immune function, wound healing, and DNA synthesis.
Copper: Copper is required for the formation of red blood cells and maintaining healthy bones and nerves.
Selenium: Selenium is an antioxidant mineral that helps protect cells from damage and is important for the functioning of the thyroid gland.
Fluoride: Fluoride is often added to drinking water to prevent tooth decay. It helps strengthen tooth enamel.
It’s important to note that while these minerals are essential for health, the concentration of these minerals in drinking water should be within recommended limits. High levels of certain minerals, such as arsenic or lead, can be harmful to health.
The specific mineral content of drinking water can vary widely depending on the source of the water and the treatment processes it undergoes. Public water supplies are typically monitored to ensure that the mineral content falls within acceptable ranges. If you have concerns about the mineral content of your drinking water or if you have specific dietary needs, you may want to consult with a healthcare professional or have your water tested for mineral content.

Nurturing Your Smile: Recommendations for Proper Oral Care After an Emergency Dental Treatment
After receiving emergency dental treatment, it's crucial to prioritise proper oral care to support healing and maintain a healthy smile. Whether you underwent a tooth extraction, received a dental restoration, or had a dental injury repaired, following post-treatment recommendations can contribute to a smooth recovery and optimal oral health. In this article, we will explore some essential recommendations for oral care after emergency dental treatment.
1. Follow Post-Treatment Instructions
The first step in proper oral care after emergency dental treatment is to carefully follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your dentist. These instructions are tailored to your specific treatment and may include information on pain management, diet restrictions, medication usage, and oral hygiene practices. Adhering to these guidelines is vital for a successful recovery and to minimise any potential complications.
2. Manage Pain and Discomfort
Some level of pain or discomfort is normal after emergency dental treatment. If you experience discomfort, follow your dentist's recommendations for pain management. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, can help alleviate pain, but always consult with your dentist or pharmacist before taking any medication. Applying an ice pack to the affected area for short intervals can also help reduce swelling and provide relief.
3. Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene
Even after emergency dental treatment, maintaining proper oral hygiene remains crucial. However, take extra care around the treated area to avoid irritation or disruption of the healing process. Brush your teeth gently using a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, being mindful of the treated area. Avoid rinsing vigorously or using mouthwash for the first 24 hours unless advised by your dentist. After 24 hours, you may begin rinsing with a mild saltwater solution to aid in healing.
4. Be Mindful of Diet and Nutrition
Following an emergency dental treatment, it's essential to be mindful of your diet to support healing and protect the treated area. Stick to soft and easy-to-chew foods for the first few days, gradually reintroducing solid foods as advised by your dentist. Avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy foods that could irritate or damage the treated area. Additionally, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, as it promotes overall oral health.
5. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol Consumption
Smoking and alcohol consumption can hinder the healing process and increase the risk of complications after dental treatment. Both smoking and alcohol can delay healing, compromise oral health, and heighten the risk of infection. It is best to avoid smoking and consuming alcohol for a designated period recommended by your dentist to ensure a successful recovery.
6. Attend Follow-up Appointments
After an emergency dental treatment, it is crucial to attend any follow-up appointments scheduled by your dentist. These appointments allow your dentist to monitor the healing process, remove sutures if necessary, and make any adjustments to dental restorations if required. Regular follow-up visits play a vital role in ensuring that your oral health is progressing as expected.
7. Communicate Any Concerns
If you experience any concerns or complications after emergency dental treatment, it is essential to communicate them promptly to your dentist. Common issues may include persistent pain, excessive bleeding, swelling, or signs of infection. Early detection and intervention can help address these problems effectively, ensuring a smooth recovery and minimising any potential complications.
Proper oral care after emergency dental treatment is essential for a successful recovery and the maintenance of optimal oral health. By following post-treatment instructions, managing pain and discomfort, maintaining proper oral hygiene, being mindful of diet and nutrition, avoiding smoking and alcohol consumption, attending follow-up appointments, and communicating any concerns, you can nurture your smile and support the healing process. Remember, post-treatment care plays a crucial role in achieving long-term oral health and preserving the results of your emergency dental treatment. Whats the Fuss about Fluoride?
Nearly seven years ago, a coalition of nonprofit organizations petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to exercise its authority to ban fluoridation of drinking water due to the mounting evidence that fluoride is neurotoxic at levels normally seen in fluoridated communities. The EPA’s denial of that petition set off a chain of events that led to a federal court case that began in 2020 and…

Study finds mushrooms magnify memory by boosting nerve growth
University of Queensland (Australia), February 10, 2023
Researchers from The University of Queensland have discovered the active compound from an edible mushroom that boosts nerve growth and enhances memory.
Professor Frederic Meunier from the Queensland Brain Institute said the team had identified new active compounds from the mushroom, Hericium erinaceus.
"Extracts from these so-called 'lion's mane' mushrooms have been used in traditional medicine in Asian countries for centuries, but we wanted to scientifically determine their potential effect on brain cells," Professor Meunier said.
"Pre-clinical testing found the lion's mane mushroom had a significant impact on the growth of brain cells and improving memory.
"Laboratory tests measured the neurotrophic effects of compounds isolated from Hericium erinaceus on cultured brain cells, and surprisingly we found that the active compounds promote neuron projections, extending and connecting to other neurons.
"Using super-resolution microscopy, we found the mushroom extract and its active components largely increase the size of growth cones, which are particularly important for brain cells to sense their environment and establish new connections with other neurons in the brain."
Co-author, UQ's Dr. Ramon Martinez-Marmol said the discovery had applications that could treat and protect against neurodegenerative cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
Fluoride exposure associated with hypothyroidism in pregnancy, study finds
York University (Canada), February 10, 2023
New research out of York University found that fluoride exposure via drinking water may increase the risk of hypothyroidism in pregnant women. In a smaller subset of participants, the researchers found lower IQ scores between boys whose mothers had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism compared to boys whose mothers had normal thyroid levels.
Earlier research done by the same lab at York found an association between maternal fluoride exposure in pregnancy and lower IQ in boys, and this new research may explain these earlier findings, according to York neuropsychology Ph.D. student Meaghan Hall, lead author of this latest study.
"We know from the literature that there is a link between high levels of fluoride exposure and thyroid disruption and there's also an established connection between untreated hypothyroidism in pregnancy and adverse outcomes in children," says Hall. "Our latest study may provide a potential mechanism to explain links to lower IQs in boys born to mothers with higher fluoride exposure and is part of a growing body of evidence that suggests that prenatal fluoride exposure may be linked to worse cognitive outcomes for children."
The study, published in Science of the Total Environment, followed more than 1,500 women enrolled in the Maternal Infant Research on Environmental Chemicals (MIREC) study, an ongoing, multi-year study led by Health Canada to investigate the impact of environmental chemicals on vulnerable populations, including pregnant people and infants. Women were recruited from 10 cities across Canada, seven of which have fluoridated drinking water.
The researchers only studied women who reported drinking tap water in pregnancy. The women were followed throughout pregnancy and their children were also followed after birth into early childhood.
In the study, a half-milligram-per liter increase in drinking-water fluoride levels, which may not sound like much, but is roughly the difference in exposure level between a fluoridated and non-fluoridated community, was associated with a 1.65 increase in odds of having a diagnosis or meeting criteria for hypothyroidism in pregnancy.
"This translates into a 65 percent increase in risk," says Christine Till, Hall's supervising professor, senior author on the study and a clinical neuropsychologist who heads up the Faculty of Health's Till Lab, which studies how various environmental exposures affect children's health. "The findings are concerning because hypothyroidism is a known cause of brain-based disorders in children," says Till.
Fluoride's ability to suppress the thyroid has been known since the 1930s when it was used to treat overactive thyroid, also known as hyperthyroidism.
The researchers measured exposure to fluoride from tap water and other dietary sources such as black tea, which is naturally high in fluoride. The researchers also measured urinary fluoride levels and found no link with hypothyroidism. The researchers say fluoride levels in tap water may be a more reliable indicator of long-term fluoride exposure than urinary levels, which might better correlate with short-term exposure, they say.
Fasting ramps up human metabolism, study shows
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, January 31, 2023
Fasting may help people lose weight, but new research suggests going without food may also boost human metabolic activity, generate antioxidants, and help reverse some effects of aging. Scientists at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) and Kyoto University identified 30 previously unreported substances whose quantity increases during fasting and indicate a variety of health benefits.
"We have been researching aging and metabolism for many years and decided to search for unknown health effects in human fasting," said Dr. Takayuki Teruya, first author of the paper and a technician in the OIST G0 Cell Unit, led by Prof. Mitsuhiro Yanagida. "Contrary to the original expectation, it turned out that fasting induced metabolic activation rather actively."
The study, published in Scientific Reports, presents an analysis of whole human blood, plasma, and red blood cells drawn from four fasting individuals. The researchers monitored changing levels of metabolites—substances formed during the chemical processes that grant organisms energy and allow them to grow. The results revealed 44 metabolites, including 30 that were previously unrecognized, that increased universally among subjects between 1.5- to 60-fold within just 58 hours of fasting.
In previous research, the G0 Cell Unit identified various metabolites whose quantities decline with age, including three known as leucine, isoleucine, and ophthalmic acid. In fasting individuals, these metabolites increase in level, suggesting a mechanism by which fasting could help increase longevity.
"These are very important metabolites for maintenance of muscle and antioxidant activity, respectively," said Teruya. "This result suggests the possibility of a rejuvenating effect by fasting, which was not known until now."
Fasting appears to elicit effects far beyond energy substitution. In their comprehensive analysis of human blood, the researchers noted both established fasting markers and many more. For example, they found a global increase in substances produced by the citric acid cycle, a process by which organisms release energy stored in the chemical bonds of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. The marked increase suggests that, during fasting, the tiny powerhouses running every cell are thrown into overdrive.
Fasting also appeared to enhance the metabolism of purine and pyrimidine, chemical substances which play key roles in gene expression and protein synthesis. The finding suggests fasting may reprogram which proteins cells build at what time, thus altering their function. The change may promote homeostasis in cells, or serve to edit their gene expression in response to environmental influences.
When metabolized, purine and pyrimidine also boost the body's production of antioxidants. Several antioxidants, such as ergothioneine and carnosine, were found to increase significantly over the 58-hour study period. Antioxidants serve to protect cells from free radicals produced during metabolism. Products of a metabolic pathway called the "pentose phosphate pathway" also stay the harmful effects of oxidation, and were similarly seen to increase during fasting, but only in plasma.
The authors suggest that these antioxidative effects may stand as the body's principal response to fasting, as starvation can foster a dangerously oxidative internal environment. Their exploratory study provides the first evidence of antioxidants as a fasting marker. In addition, the study introduces the novel notion that fasting might boost production of several age-related metabolites, abundant in young people, but depleted in old.

These 13 Toxins are Poisoning You Everyday. Avoid Them at All Cost
We have no idea how many toxins we absorb into our bodies on a day-to-day basis, and we know even less how those chemicals affect our health.
In a 2006 article for National Geographic, reporter David Ewing Duncan asked that very question: Just how many chemicals do normal human beings have in their bodies without even realizing it? The answer shocked him. Using himself as a human guinea pig, he allowed himself to be tested for 320 different chemical substances. His body showed traces of at least 165 of them. Some of his levels were relatively low; however, others were alarmingly high—higher than the normal level for factory workers who spend every day working in the presence of those same chemicals.1 Mr. Duncan isn’t a factory worker, though, he’s a journalist, and not one who spends any of his time in chemical or manufacturing plants. According to the article, his body tested positive for:
…Older chemicals that [he] might have been exposed to decades ago, such as DDT and PCBs; pollutants like lead, mercury, and dioxins; newer pesticides and plastic ingredients; and the near-miraculous compounds that lurk just beneath the surface of modern life, making shampoos fragrant, pans nonstick, and fabrics water-resistant and fire-safe.
While more research will need to be done in order to determine just how such chemicals affect us, it’s not surprising that each of them adds a degree of toxic stress to our bodies. The more toxic chemical load present in any human, the greater the degree of health complications that will be present.
Take lead for example. In 1971 the U.S. Surgeon General announced that any level of lead below 40 micrograms per deciliter of blood was safe. Now we know that even a trace of lead can be detrimental, especially in children where it has been shown to cause neurological damage and reduced IQs. It is very possible that the levels of arsenic in our orange juice and rice, the levels of mercury in our fish, and the levels of fluoride and chloride in our water, that are now deemed safe, may one day be determined by our government to be extremely dangerous. It wouldn’t be the first time they were wrong.
Our bodies are stressed, and we don’t know it. In the beginning our bodies try to keep up, recover, compensate and do what they can to survive. Once these coping strategies get overwhelmed, the problems that have been flying below the radar get expressed as symptoms that arise. Television commercials and marketing campaigns advise us to take something to suppress the symptoms. Birth control for heavy bleeding, Advil for pain, Pepcid for reflux. When we suppress those symptoms, it makes it that much harder to find the real culprit. For instance, we are faced each day with endocrine-disrupting chemicals that our grandparents never had to face. The BPA found in food cans, water bottles, and cell phone protectors disrupts our hormonal balance adding to estrogen overload. BPA is even found in the coating on every store receipt that you handle! This dangerous chemical affects every system in the body. It can lead to prostate or breast cancer, uterine fibroids, weight gain, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, early onset of puberty, and a whole host of other problems.
Synthetic estrogen is found in all oral birth control pills. It has been identified as a major cause of cancers in women. We are all exposed to this toxin as millions of these pills are flushed into the water supply every year. As we drink our tap water, we are being exposed to far too much estrogen. This again disrupts our normal hormonal balance.
Fire retardants that coat our furniture, clothing, and bedding contain a dangerous form of bromine that interferes with normal thyroid function. The thyroid is in charge of metabolism and energy and needs iodine to function properly. Because bromine is in the same family as iodine, it competes for dominance in the thyroid gland. It often wins, creating an underactive thyroid. So doctors prescribe thyroid medication, but never address why the thyroid is struggling in the first place.
The fluoride and chloride in our drinking water are also in the same family as iodine, and as you may have guessed, they also compete for dominance in the thyroid gland. Between bromine (found in fire retardants and in many soft drinks) and the fluoride and perchlorate (chlorine) in our water, the poor iodine molecules lose out—and ultimately, so does our health! Low thyroid function causes weight gain, fatigue, and depression. White flour is bleached that unnatural white color by using chlorine gas, so by all means, avoid white flour!

Phthalates are found in plastics—plastic bags, plastic cups, plastic storage containers, plastic water bottles, anything plastic. They add flexibility and resilience to plastic, but they are toxic! Chronic exposure to phthalates has been linked to obesity, low sperm count, diabetes, and thyroid conditions. Because of this, we encourage everyone to store as much as they can in glass instead of plastic; and by all means, don’t heat your food in plastic containers in a microwave oven! This is a health disaster waiting to happen.
Arsenic is found beneath the earth’s crust, but it can leach into the water supply whenever that crust is disrupted through construction, excavation, or mining. Exposure to arsenic can result in insulin resistance, immune system suppression, slowed cognitive development, cardiovascular damage, and weight gain/loss. The best way to protect against arsenic is to install a water filter, one that specifically contains the ability to remove arsenic. Trace amounts of arsenic are also present in processed orange juice. Avoid bottled juices whenever possible, and opt for freshly juiced, organic fruits and vegetables.
PFCs (perfluorinated chemicals) are found in non-stick cookware. If you own this type of cookware, replace it as soon as you can. When heated, PFCs leach into your food. This toxin is also used to coat the insides of bags of microwave popcorn. If you eat microwaved popcorn, you should stop immediately. Once PFCs start to accumulate in your body, they can cause infertility, ineffective sperm, heart disease, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, and low birth weight in babies. A recent study confirmed PFCs, especially PFOA and PFHxS, negatively affect thyroid hormone levels. A deep and thorough cleansing may be helpful for removing built-up levels of PFCs in the body.
Mercury is toxic and dangerous to pregnant women and the babies they carry. It’s known to affect women in particular as it will bind with a hormone essential to menstruation and ovulation. Mercury also attacks the pancreas, thereby affecting insulin production. This action may lead to diabetes; however, research is unclear on this topic. Reducing seafood consumption may be one of the best solutions to reducing mercury intake; unfortunately, fish is no longer the only concern. Immunizations often contain mercury as a carrier. Many parents choose not to immunize their children because they believe that exposure to childhood diseases is far less dangerous than exposure to a known neurotoxin. The new CFL lightbulbs contain dangerous levels of mercury. In fact, if one of these lightbulbs break, it’s recommended you evacuate the area to prevent exposure.
Aluminum is a toxin that finds its way quickly to the human brain where it is stored. The use of aluminum cookware has been implicated in human toxicity, as has the use of antiperspirants and over-the-counter heartburn and indigestion remedies. Professor Chris Exley from Keeley University in England is an expert in the field of research relating to Alzheimer’s disease. He is adamant that at some point in time, the accumulation of aluminum in the brain will achieve a toxic threshold and a specific neuron or area of the brain will stop coping with the presence of aluminum and will start reacting to its presence. If the same brain tissue is also suffering other insults or another ongoing degenerative condition, then the additional response to aluminum will make worse these effects. So aluminum may cause other conditions to be more aggressive or to have an earlier onset. These occurrences have already been shown in Alzheimer’s disease related to environmental and occupational exposure to aluminum.
Acrylamides are found in fried foods like French fries and potato chips. They are also present whenever you “char” meat on a grill, or even in a pan on the stove. They are present in cigarettes. Avoid fried foods, cigarettes, and charred meat products whenever possible as acrylamides build up in your body and cause serious damage.
Genetically modified foods are all around us, and big agri-business is pushing for more! The Monsanto Company is leading the way to influence lawmakers and consumers alike to accept genetically modified corn, soybeans, potatoes, and grains, even though GMOs have been shown to cause immune system, brain, and liver damage.
The number-one source of calories taken in by Americans today is from high fructose corn syrup. Starting in the 1970s, processed food manufacturers began using this damaging chemical instead of sucrose or table sweetener. Why did they do this? Because it was cheaper, and it produced a sweeter product. The generations of children who grew up with sweeter food crave that same level of satisfaction now that they are adults. This is one reason for the preponderance of obesity in our country today. Not only does high fructose corn syrup cause weight gain and metabolic problems, it also increases triglyceride levels and raises “bad” (LDL) cholesterol. Around 100 years ago, the average American consumed a mere 15 grams of fructose a day, primarily in the form of fruit. One hundred years later, one-fourth of Americans are consuming more than 135 grams per day, largely in the form of soda. At 15 grams a day, fructose is harmless. However, at nearly ten times that amount it becomes a major cause of obesity and nearly all chronic degenerative disease.
So what did many of these overweight adults turn to? Diet sodas and “diet” foods filled with toxic artificial sweeteners. Now it seemed that we could have all the satisfaction with none of the guilt! The only problem is that artificial sweeteners can cause convulsions and make you crave more sweets. They can also cause weight gain and lead to diabetes. They produce toxins in the stomach when broken down by the body. Aspartame, the most commonly consumed artificial sweetener in America, is used in over 6,000 products worldwide despite its having been linked to a host of health problems, including brain tumors and brain cancer, lymphomas, leukemia, and other blood cancers, as well as breast and prostate cancer. It is an “excitotoxin,” and all excitotoxins increase the growth of cancer cells. This is a relatively easy one to eliminate from your life. Avoid any artificial sweeteners.
Another of the biggest stressors to our bodies in America today is a dangerous chemical that has been banned in many countries across Europe—glycophosphate. You have probably used this powerful defoliant to control the weeds in your yard. Known by the commercial trade name Roundup, glycophosphate is toxic, and it is used in the production and harvest of most of our foods. Many people think they are eating healthfully when they buy apples, grapes, or strawberries from the store. But unless these fruits are organic or verified to be pesticide-free, they could be a major cancer risk. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that up to 98 percent of all conventional produce, and particularly the type found on its “dirty” fruits list, is contaminated with cancer-causing pesticides.
Are you beginning to see how much stress is put on our bodies from toxic chemicals every single day? According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), it is estimated that over 80 percent of all illnesses have environmental and lifestyle causes. Not only can what we are exposed to make us ill, but the accumulation of toxins over the years can wreak havoc with our health. The more toxic our bodies are, the more our interior environment is stressed. Numerous diseases like arthritis, allergies, autoimmune diseases, and digestive dysfunction are all caused by an immune system that is so overloaded it begins to attack indiscriminately, striking at healthy cells as well as foreign pathogens.
While we have yet to determine the exact effects of all of these chemicals on our systems, it is safe to say that most of them weren’t around 100 years ago, and that the epidemic levels of cancer and other stress-related diseases we are seeing today were much lower back then as well. Over 69 million Americans live in large cities and areas that regularly exceed smog standards.3 Most tap water contains over 700 chemicals, sometimes including high concentrations of lead.4 Roughly 3,000 chemicals have been added to our food supply, and we are daily exposed to as many as 10,000 chemicals in the form of solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives, many of which can remain in the body for years. According to Phyllis Saifer, MD, in her book Detox, “It is estimated that the average American ingests one gallon of food additives yearly.”5 Do we really think we can be taking all of this into our bodies without negatively affecting our health?
