Sending an ask for nice ask day!!

Noticed we have a lot of similar fandom interests -- if David, Patrick, Carlos, TK, Alex, and Henry were to meet, where would it happen? who would get along the most outside of the pairing?

hello! What a great ask! I love finding people who share multiple fandoms, so hello new friend!!! 💖

Believe it or not, this is something I’ve thought about previously, so strap in.

A while back @blackandwhiteandrose wrote a fic (about how David and TK were friends (if you love both characters, you should read this fic, it’s so good) back when David still lived in NYC. Having read it and discussed it with BWR later, I wholeheartedly agree that they were friends who lost touch after TK moved to Austin. Not immediately though - you know in s1 of SC how David is always on the phone texting? We know that his NYC friends were mostly assholes, so who was he texting? TK.

TK probably got a new phone or deleted all of his NYC contacts when he moved to Austin, so he lost David’s number then too. But maybe he’s scrolling Instagram one day and comes across Alexis’ account or the Rose Apothecary account, or maybe Nancy is laughing hysterically at Moira’s accidental live stream of the conversation about David’s oopsie-daisy and eventually TK gets back in touch with David. They’re both happy now, really happy. Deeply in love, safe and content with who they are as people, happy.

Patrick suggests that he and David make the trip to Austin and David can catch up with TK while they’re there. (There’s probably some kind of sportsball game Patrick would want to watch, idk).

I’m taking liberties now, but bear with me. While they’re in Austin, they go to a restaurant and there’s a fire. Please go read @missgeevious’s absolutely hysterical fic to find out what happens.

Once Patrick gets over his mortification (it’s short lived, David won’t allow it, there are food trucks to visit and proper bbq to be had), they go with TK and Carlos on a tour of Carlos’ favourite food trucks and end up at Franklin’s BBQ, which David wanted to go to because he read about it in an article about FSOTUS.

Carlos raises a brow at David’s seeming insistence on wearing sweaters in the Texas heat, but he’s glad it’s not actually summer or TK might need to put his paramedic skills to work on his friend. There’s a moment when Carlos catches Patrick’s eye as their respective husbands are chatting loudly and gesticulating wildly and there’s a fond resignation in Patrick’s expression that he recognises. One that says, “sometimes I can’t believe that I chose him but I’m so glad every day that I did.” Carlos feels that way about TK too.

When they make it to Franklin’s the line is long and Carlos notices the presence of private security officers in suits - unusual for somewhere like Franklin’s. The reason for it becomes apparent when they realize that Alex, Henry, Nora and June are ahead of them in line. They’d come to Texas for a long weekend at the lake house. It’s David who recognises them first - Alexis used to have a giant crush on Prince Henry, she’d met him once before at a party on a yacht (Pez dragged Henry to the party), and in the way that only Alexis can, had come home and huffed that Henry must not be interested in women, “because, David, he, like, barely even looked at me and I was wearing that sparkly Balenciaga!” (Little did she know that she was correct. “I knew it!” she proclaimed when news broke of the emails, before she’d gone all teary eyed once the enormity of what had happened to Alex and Henry had hit her).

Turns out that the world is both too big and ridiculously small - Carlos and June had taken a class together at UT, even worked on a group assignment together. When June comes over to say hi to Carlos, they end up all sitting together: David, Patrick, TK, Carlos, Alex, Henry, June and Nora. They share their food and laugh so much and more than one other patron does a double take at the ridiculous level of hotness sitting at their tables.

David gets along surprisingly well with Nora - she reminds both him and Patrick of Stevie, in a way. Carlos and Henry become fast friends and it’s not long before he and Alex are talking in Spanish about their favourite foods as well. David, TK and Alex - in an uncoordinated attack - separately try to steal food off their respective partners’ plates only to be met with loud protests, followed by triumph, because their partners never really say no. There’s laughter when they realise what’s happened simultaneously around the table.

They sit there talking and laughing and eating until they realise that the sunlight is fading and they’ve been there for hours now, simply enjoying the company and revelling in feeling happy, and safe, and free.

I’ve been wanting to make this post for a while now, but I decided to make it my last RWRB related post. It’s clear the production will never give a statement about why they changed Nora’s character from Jewish to not, and there’s other shows and movies and productions I need to focus on. But before I switch gears, this needs to be said.

I was wrong about something and I need to just make it very clear how sorry I am to Rachel Hilson for involving her in the discourse around the movie to the degree that I did.

When I first started this blog the day the cast was revealed (over a year ago), I had no more information than anyone else. The only thing I knew about Nora that she was a Jewish character (along with everything else obvi) (book) and that Rachel was rumored to be Jewish (TikTok). In my quest to point out the antisemitism in Hollywood (a very true thing), I allowed logical thinking to guide me down an incorrect path.

That path was thinking that since Nora was Jewish in the book that of course she had to be in the movie too. It wasn’t an insane assumption, since the two options were A: A non-Jewish actress playing a Jewish role, or B: totally erasing Nora’s ethnicity. For some reason, the second option felt impossible for the longest time because to me Nora being Jewish was a part of who she was and for a good chunk of time I didn’t consider that they could separate it, plus the first happens literally sooooo much (especially on Amazon) that I was certain it was happening again.

But I was wrong. Nora’s canon Jewishness was erased very early on in the adaption and Rachel was at fault for none of it. She did an amazing job (like I knew she would), but I need to apologize for what I’ve posted. In my attempt to call out Hollywood for once again casting a non-Jewish actress for a Jewish role, as they do all the time, Rachel got caught in the cross fire and that’s not fair to her. It’s the fault of the movie’s creative team, not her. I always knew that, but I’m human, I make mistakes, and I own up to them when I do. I let the emotional impact of seeing Jewish roles played by non-Jewish actors again and again influence my posting here, and while nothing I said was incorrect regarding Hollywood’s constant erasure of Jews and even the erasure of Nora’s own Jewishness, I was wrong to loop Rachel into that the way I did. I wanted to settle the rumors that she was Jewish, and I did that, but I wish I had known that Nora was just not going to be Jewish period from the start. I should’ve focused more on option B for this movie and not A, but how was I to know when it all started? Regardless, I’m going to be going through my account this weekend and deleting anything that’s directly tied to Rachel, but it’ll take a few days.

So, to Rachel: I doubt you have tumblr, you’re an extremely busy actress and this place is a time wasting hellhole, but I know you or your team knows this account exists. If you see this or hear about this, I want you to know that I really am sorry. You don’t have to forgive me, but you deserve an apology. To anyone connected to Rachel who also feels as though they were caught up in this too, I also apologize to any and all of you.

I don’t use Instagram anymore, but I know Rachel does. If anyone DMs her this apology post, this is the disclaimer that the sender didn’t write this. She’s owed an apology and I just hope she sees it somehow.

Was my calling out of RWRB’s Jew-erasure wrong? No. Was the way I did it wrong? Yeah. I focused on the wrong things based off prior knowledge and assumptions. Truly my only regret is involving Rachel, I wish I hadn’t done that. At the time it all made sense, but even then I should’ve had the restraint and waited until I knew more. So anyway, I’m sorry about that. Hopefully Rachel will someday, somehow, someway hear about my apology and understand that I was upset about the circumstances in this movie and how often it always happens, and that she just honestly was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And for that, I’m immensely sorry.

This is my last RWRB post. Unless something crazy happens. So keep following me if you wanna hear more about antisemitism and Jew-erasure in Hollywood, but I think I’ve exhausted all the things I can say. Thanks to anyone who’s supported me calling out the movie about their erasure, what they did wasn’t okay, but I’m ready to move on unless they say anything else about it.

We all miss you, and if this isn’t Nora..I’m sorry. You look just like her. She was one of my best friends in a low time in my life, and we lost contact when discord deleted her account and a piece of me left with her. When I last talked with her she was beginning ana..eating 5 crackers a day. I love her so much.

Maybe she’s okay. I wonder if she’d want to talk to me :)

I turned off replies when people (RWDEs and anti-crits alike) kept using them to harass me.

I delete guest reviews and comments on FFN and AO3 when they're particularly hateful.

I'm only SwapAUAnon on a small handful of websites.

And finally, defending them HOW?!?

is it because I block them instead of seeking them out to point and laugh?

Is it because I brought up that canonseeker using multiple alt accounts to stalk Calxiyn is the entire reason she joined RWDE in the first place? (And again, I'm going ENTIRELY off of secondhand information there on the "joining RWDE" part).

Is it because I, shock and horror, brought up that using ableist hatespeech to criticize Adam and Ironwood instead of their actually harmful behaviors isn't acceptable?

Is it because I said that accusing a Monochrome shipper of being an ABUSE APOLOGIST for preferring Monochrome to Bumbleby (and then going on to attack a Bumbleby shipper for not shipping the pairing hard enough), is frankly ridiculous?

Like I said, I go out of my way to avoid RWDE content!

But at this point, I just don't want to beat a dead horse!

We all know FRWBY is bad, I'm not going to sit down and waste my precious time on Earth reading a pay-by-play on how bad it is!

I'm not going to go and hatewatch Unicorn of War's RWBY Rewrite where he made Ren out to be the bad guy for yelling at Nora for sexually assaulting him at Robyn's victory party.

And you know what I've had to put up with since the Volume 8 finale?

"Sometimes, suicide IS the answer!"

"You need to rewatch that episode that made you phsyically ill until you like it!"

"Penny got a human body to showcase her human soul, while Ironwood had a inhuman body to showcase his INHUMAN soul!"

The list goes on.

I did not throw the first punch here.

I pointed out some potentially iffy implications in Penny having a human body she never asked for forced on her, and was immediately accused of being a transphobe by a complete stranger who had NEVER engaged with my blog prior to that point.

I criticized one minor point on Ironwood's arc while calling the rest of his downfall well written, and was immediately dubbed a fascist.

I took issue with how Before the Dawn (accidentally or otherwise) GLORIFIED Social Darwinism and demonized "unacceptably" disabled people, and I was told that Vacuo NEEDS to "cull the weak" in response.

So, I did the same thing I did to survive in the Kingdom Hearts fandom, I blocked the particularly rancid people, and moved on with my life.

Even during Volume 8, BEFORE I criticized the finale, when I was a super-hardcore anti-crit myself, I didn't see a lot of RWDE content because I blocked people liberally!

I don't have Twitter or Reddit accounts, so the only website where I have to deal with RWDEs is Spacebattles, and to their credit, most of them just drop stories when they realize they won't be getting what they want out of them!

Everything I have EVER learned about RWDEs has been against my will via other people I interact with.

When I asked people to use suicide trigger warnings on their posts depicting Penny's death (which even Miles and Kerry acknowledged was potentially triggering to suicidal people via the suicide hotline in both the episode description and end credits), it was ONLY the RWDEs who agreed to do so while the "Positive, accepting, progressive" FNDM mocked me for it!

So you can probably imagine why I'm of the opinion that this is a horeshoe situation where the few reasonable people are being silent and shut down by the extremes!

Apparently, politely asking someone not to speak over a marginalized group they are not a part of and then complaining about it when dozens of strangers come out of the woodwork to lecture you about how you don't understand your own experiences is "harassment".

Anyway, on a related note, I think this might be my villain origin story, because I'm starting to question if there are actually any queerphobes left in RWDE spaces or if anti-crits just hyperfixated on a particularly vocal minority in order to look like the heroes, because I am actually starting to understand why so many people hate this fucking fandom.

Judging by the anonsense I get, plenty of queerphobes making up rwde, along with people that love to proclaim they're so supportive of LGBTs and that it's the queer fans who are the real queerphobes, while stalking me across multiple websites.

i think you should really focus on writing bc *you* want to and not just bc of how many interactions ur work gets.. i see u saying all the time that if a piece doesn’t get more attention then ur not gonna write anymore and 😭😭 guilt tripping at its finest. you do realize that some ppl don’t read stuff until it’s completed? or maybe think about how it’s finals season so a lot of people can’t be spending time reading stuff for fun. your work is really really good and it’s such a shame that you cry about interactions. which i get, trust me, i do. it takes a lot of energy writing and blah blah blah bUT AGAIN . if u just did it bc it’s fun and you love it then maybe u won’t find it so exhausting writing. and maybe u do write bc u love it and it’s fun and ur just bummed out bc u don’t get a lot of interaction but c’mon bestie ppl won’t always be available to read ur work RIGHT AWAY. some might read it in like 5 months or some might read it next week. just be patient and write bc u love it and not bc ur seeking a lot of interactions

If you can’t find anything, then you’re just trying to fit this into your own stupid narrative to make me into some sort of writer villain I- aifjeiogjoi You obviously don’t know that I graduated from university last year with a BA in Creative Writing and English Literature, so posting my writing onto here isn’t for any other reason than how fun I think it is when my readers and I interact, when we talk and just have fun together. I have COUNTLESS of stories stored on my laptop that are only for me, only cos I love writing so much. The people that do take the time out of their day to subscribe to my Patreon, rb, add a comment, add something in the tags, send me asks, comment on wattpad, vote on wattpad make posting my writing on here worth it. I’m posting content FOR FREE, of course I just want people to do the decent thing and give something back in a rb or feedback. That’s not guilt tripping. I’m not “mak(ing) (someone) feel guilty, especially in order to induce them to do something”, I’m asking for something in return, something that will simply take someone an extra minute, not even that, to make my entire day. Jaune can see a lot of videos and photos of him. Some of them were in the gym, some of them when he was swimming, and some of them when he was in the locker room changing or just wearing a towel. The pictures didn't show anything sensitive like his "sword", but they left little to the imagination.

Girl 1: So, what do you say? We can take some photos and videos together for our fans. I would increase the tons of fans on your account and mine. *she leans closer to his ear* But to be honest, I hope to do something more explicit.

Jaune steps back showing his face red as a tomato.

Jaune: *nervous and confused* S-sorry, I have to go.

Girl 1: Would you even think about it?

Jaune looks back and sees the girls giving him bedroom eyes and waving at him. One of them even winked at him

Jaune runs back to his room. A lot of questions come to his mind. Who took the photos? Why are they doing this? How many people know? More and more questions were piling up in his head, but right now he wants to stay away from everyone.

Jaune finally reaches his room. He steps inside and closes the door behind him. He leaned his back against the door and slid down to sit on the floor.

Nora: *Out of nowhere* Are you okay fearless leader?

Jaune turns to the corner of the room and sees Nora still in her school uniform reading a magazine and listening to music on her pink headphones.

Jaune: Nora! *Stand up* Someone is taking photos of me and posting them on Onlyfans!

Nora: Oh! that was me!

Jaune: What?! You did this? Why?!

Nora: I need some extra money and with our schedule it is impossible to get a job. So I decided to do an Onlyfans!

On the screen Nora shows a private chat made by the students and they are talking about the greatest find: Jaune arc is the SexyKnight. Photos of him are being compared to OnlyFans photos. Showing the similarities as proof that they are the same person. Even marks on his body and his clothes that match the photographs. It seems that someone was collecting all this information and showing it to the world. The reason? That remains a mystery. The only thing they know is that the person starting this has the username: The_Black_Queen

Jaune felt his soul leave his body. What is he going to do now? People know it's him. Will they make fun of him? What will happen to his friends, will they treat him differently now that they know the truth? He can't think calmly. He just sits there. Then he feels someone touch his shoulders and move him from side to side. He looks up and sees Nora. She is saying something but he can't hear her. She looks worried.

Nora: Ja.... une..... Jaune..... Jaune ....JAUNE!!!

Jaune: Huh!

Nora: Don't worry, we can fix this. We just have to start a new rumor and they won't be after you. Trust me

Just then, Team RWBY and Pyrrha enter the room together.

Yang: So movie night at 6 in our room?

Pyrrha: It sounds like a good time. I tell others. *She turns around and sees Nora and Jaune* Oh, you guys are here. Team RWBY invited us to a movie night. *Looks closer at their panicked faces* Are you two alright?

Ruby: It seems that you saw a ghost.

Jaune: *He tries to compose himself* We are fine! right Nora?

Nora: Yes! Yes, we are. Jaune, let's go find Ren to tell him about the Movie night.

Jaune: That's a great idea.

They both move towards the door. Nora was so nervous that when she tried to put her Scroll in her pocket, she dropped it on the floor right in front of the girls.

Blake: Nora, *Picks up the Scroll and looks at it* You drop... this

At that moment her eyes gets wide open and look straight at Jaune

Blake: SexyKnight?

The other girls look at him and then at the scroll, all of them shocked by this new revelation. But they stand still like a deer in front of headlights. They were about to say something, but Nora had another plan.

Nora: NINJA VANISH!!

She throws a ball to the ground and an explosion of smoke fills the room. The girls were having trouble breathing and once the smoke cleared, Nora and Jaune were gone.

I don’t know why this makes me lose my shit every time I read it but here we are.

f. Name one thing that would have been different if this book had been written in the 2020s.

The biggest and most obvious thing is that with the presence of social media and constant photography both from the press and event staff and the other guests posting photos, the kids' job of discrediting William Roger Tennant would be a lot easier. All Ax has to do is hack his Twitter account and have him post something that will get him turbo-canceled. Even if he deletes it and tries to claim it was a hack, the firestorm will already be too big to control, and the first thing you'll see when you Google him for years will be that time he said something problematic and lied about it being a hack.

the second thing is that if, for some reason, the kids still have to infiltrate a gala, Ax's freakout as a waiter will be immortalized on TikTok and Twitter. there would have to be a whole separate book about traveling to those companies' servers and deleting the footage, and damage control. Ax might even have to get a new human morph.

h. Best OTP moment?

oh fuck okay. okay you'll have to bear with me. I do not ship Marco-and-Jake-both-in-love, I'm not M/J, but I am Marco-is-in-love-with-Jake (M->J).

and with that as an option.

my favorite moment is when Marco's freaking out and Cassie tries to get him to talk about his feelings and Jake takes control and goes "No, I know who he is, I know what he needs. Marco, cope." and Marco describes himself as feeling like he got a bucket of cold water dunked over his head. this is a book that is a joy to read if you're looking for proof that Marco is in love with Jake.

v. You have the powers of the Ellimist. What would you change about this book?

Two things.

First, make Nora a better dog owner. Euclid is badly behaved and Nora doesn't seem to realize it. Marco of course doesn't like little yippy dogs and especially not little yippy dogs that belong to people his dad is dating who he hates, but Nora still lets Euclid do basically whatever he wants. If he were better behaved Marco would be more inclined to like him.

Second, I want Nora to have been dating Peter for some time. This isn't just this book, but if I'm the Ellimist, I'm doing what Toomin does and meddling - Peter starts dating in in book 15, and is confirmed to be dating Nora specifically either in book 17 by Rachel in a comedic conversation about math homework or in book 25 by Marco himself. I want her to be more of a presence in the series overall, because otherwise she's basically introduced in 35, a nonentity in 40 and the other books, and then she's gone in 45, never to be seen again. If I'm supposed to have feelings about her eventual fate, or feel like she's enough of a character for me to be torn about Peter abandoning? I need to care about her as a fixture of his life. As it is, I have trouble knowing for sure how important she is, or what kind of person she is, and that's hard to sell in books this short.
