It’s a regional dish, and since it’s a regional dish it’s got approximately 1 fuckbillion variations (some of which do in fact feature Cheese Whiz or yellow cheese, because there’s the Fancy Version and then there’s the Cheap Version) but from my (non-Pennsylvania) understanding it is

Chopped beef that’s been cooked on a flat-top grill. Possibly the beef was fully grilled, possibly it’s roast beef that was finished on the grill. I have seen multiple Philly cheese steaks made, they are not fried but they are grilled using oil and at home they’re cooked in a skillet with oil.

Sliced peppers and onions that are fully cooked on the grill and then combined with the chopped beef

Cheese melted on top, usually white cheese like Swiss or Provolone but some places do insist on canned spray cheese or American cheese

Hoagie bun, possibly toasted

What you get is a hot sandwich with meat and vegetables and cheese and a LOT of drippings.

I need to admit something to the US Tumblrinas. Philadelphia isn't a place to me. It's a cream cheese. You say "philadelphia" or "philly" and I immediately, and exclusively, think of the cream cheese. "Twelve people die in Philadelphia disaster" wow that must've been a Molasses Flood style event

You know, the characters in the book tease Ax sometimes about him using the term "Your Minutes" or "Your hours" but....WOULDN'T a minute or an hour on alien planet be different from an hour or a minute on Earth? Like, Planets rotate differently thus causing the days and years to be different, so wouldnt a minute on the Andalite homeworld potentially BE longer than a minute or second on Earth? Or is that not how thay works?

I wrote a thing! the Animorphs influence is mostly present in the “shouting over each other” school of Battle Plans, and the infodumping about animals both real and magical, but it’s very much there. It’s completely free, and always will be, so maybe think about giving it a read?

Couldn't resist a bit of Valentine's fun with the birds at work! This is one of our ambassador red-tailed hawks, Jesse, trying to get at her snack! Jesse is a non-releasable ambassador, not a pet, and she had been at our facility for 25 years this year, so she deserves some love! (She is not very good at enrichment, so sometimes she needs 'help!')

“Get up! Get dressed! Both of you.”

“Come on, Jules, can’t we have an hour?” Virgo demanded. There was a plaintive whine in her voice. “Or two? Or three? Or four…”

“You’re literally going to have – what, fourteen? Fifteen?”

“Fifteen,” Peri said. The word cut her on both sides of her mouth and made her hungry. “It’s fifteen.”

“Fifteen full hours together! I’m not keeping you from anything, and I’m going to be alone all night, and probably most of tomorrow, so you owe me.”

“You could always come with us,” Peri said.

“What?!” Virgo cried.

“For a while. We really don’t need fifteen hours.”

Her girlfriend made a face that was trying very hard to convince her that yes, actually, they did need fifteen hours to run around together and anything less was some kind of domestic abuse. Jules groaned, rolling her eyes.

“I’d love to come with you,” she said, “but I think Virgo would rethink being my best friend if I did.”

“I – well – I mean – I’d certainly – !”

“You don’t have to be nice to me,” Jules said. “I wouldn’t be nice to you. I’m a real cunt if anybody gets between me and Jamie when I want him.”

“You can’t come, in that case. I don’t care about ‘for old times’s sake’ or whatever the fuck. You absolutely really truly cannot come and if you try I’ll set fire to your bed.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” Jules retorted. “You have to live in that room too.”

“Guilty as charged,” Virgo shrugged. “I’ll roll all over everything before I change back and you’ll be finding hair in your quilt for months.”

“Fine,” Jules agreed, smiling too sweetly. “I’ll keep out.”

“Thank you. You always were nice.”

“So, since I’m being nice, you have to be a good blood-sister and come hang out with me and my boyfriend.” She winked at Peri, who giggled in spite of herself. “No fur allowed.”

“But Jules…”

“What? You like Jamie!”

“Of course I like Jamie! I just like sex better!”

“Delayed gratification is good for you. Aren’t you always saying that?”

“I – !”

“And she can’t argue,” Jules said triumphantly, drawing out her words in a sing-song pattern. “I win.”

She turned on her heel and went down the stairs again. Her remaining friends stared at her, and then at each other, and then Virgo groaned and sank her forehead into the frame of the bed while Peri shrieked with laughter.

So excited to share my collection of Animorphs Pride flags! All created in MS Paint using the titles of different Animorphs books. 

Originally I'd just made the transgender flag and asexual flag a few years ago with inspiration from the Animorphing Time podcast - but then @portlandalites said they'd "kill for a lesbian one." So, I made as many flags as possible with the available colors! I hope people enjoy :)

What can baleen whales even DO about orca whales. Like can they even fight back. Imagine being a huge fat floating mass of delicious meat living in an open void with no shelter to retreat to and there are these mouth torpedos that might just decide to show up and rip you open just whenever.

the reason i keep comparing rachel/tobias animorphs to patrochilles iliad by homer is this. ok. patrochilles is one character (achilles) who is violent and bloodthirsty and dangerously close to the divine being tethered to his humanity almost solely by the other character (patroclus) who is gentle and kind and a fierce, excellent soldier yes, but by necessity, not warlike by nature. rachel/tobias is one character (rachel) who is violent and bloodthirsty and always dangerously close to losing touch with her humanity due to her rage and desire for retribution. the other character (tobias) is, or was, gentle and kind by nature and a fierce, excellent soldier and hunter by necessity because in addition to being a child soldier in an intergalactic war he is also stuck in the body of a red-tailed hawk and has to live as a predator and wild animal, and constantly struggles with losing his humanity entirely. and SHE, the warlike and sometimes borderline inhumane one, is the tether to humanity for HIM. because she loves him. and he loves her. and that's what keeps him human when everything else falls away. that's crazy. that's insane. do you get it. do you understand
