hc that people notice pro hero shouto mostly responds to/likes pictures of his fans’ pets on twitter, more than any other kind of tweet, and suddenly he starts getting inundated with pics of animals. 

every single day he gets dozens of tweets like “hey rate this cat i saw eating old noodles out of the dumpster behind my apartment,” or “this is meatball, she’s orange and we love her,” and “shouto do you also like chinchillas?? this is my sister’s chinchilla deborah.” he always responds with something so pure like, “looks good. i like soba too,” or “meatball is very orange,” and “i like deborah’s ears,” and people eat that shit right up.

buzzfeed does a whole article like “fifteen times todoroki shouto was unbearably wholesome on twitter” and koda koji just about expires in the class 1-a group chat at having his brand id steamrolled like this.

Quantum Leap (1989) Re-watch - S1, E7

As previously mentioned, I'm doing a re-watch of Quantum Leap (1989) now that I've fallen back into writing slash for it. And as I watched, decided to write up my off-the-cuff/stream of consciousness thoughts as I watch them. (I'm also doing this on my Dreamwidth.)

Ah, yes. One of the episodes I wanted to talk about when people in the QL Facebook group I was in started bitching about the reboot being 'woke' for having a nonbinary character in it. FIRST SEASON they tackled social issues.

Sam's recap implies there were no 'missing' leaps between episodes. Huh.

No 'oh boy' still.

Sam's 'improv' skills seem to be getting better!

Also also: I was in a community theatre production of 'To Kill a Mockingbird' many MANY years ago, and I was one of the townspeople. I had to say the 'n' word, and I wanted to wash my mouth out with soap. It actually felt WRONG to say it.

The look on Sam's face when he hears that he has to cook that night. Adds to the fanon that Sam can't cook worth a damn. And that Al CAN cook.

"I've got a bad feeling about this one." / "You always have a bad feeling." (ADR'd) Glad to know Al's superstitions came in early canon.

Al panicking is sort of cute in a weird way.

The first time someone 'sees' Al. Sort of.

Oooh - the yellow suit. I just put him in that in the Traditions story I'm doing.

"Just think of the possibilities. I mean, if I could reach Mz. Melny, then maybe … just maybe … I can reach OTHER women. … YOUNGER women." Have I mentioned lately how much I love Al Calavicci? I know if this was real, I'd be pissed at him - but Dean does SUCH a good job of making him loveable.

"Is sex all you ever think about?" / "Well, except when I'm pulling YOU out of the fire, YES." - oh, Al - we all know you think about sex when you're pulling Sam out of the fire, TOO. ;-)

Al singing "We Shall Overcome". I love you, Dean Stockwell - but you can't carry a tune in a bucket.

The end musical version of "We Shall Overcome" actually gave me chills.

We get an 'Oh boy' in the teaser leap in!

Final thoughts: For the time it was written in, this still holds up fairly well. Is it technically blackface if it's Sam leaping into a black man? Pratt is one of my favorite writers, and this is one of the many reasons why. (It's also why I was willing to give the reboot a chance: I saw she was going to be connected to it.) Despite it just being 'QL Driving Miss Daisy', Pratt manages to get the moral across without being TOO preachy, as well as keeping it personal. The big moral is basically that change happens individually and in small increments. Having grown up in a sundown town, I know what it was STILL like in the '80s for black people. (Not that I can relate, if that makes sense. I just know I never saw my first 'live' black person until I went to college.) We get some of Al's background as well. The acting is excellent, as expected. Good episode. Didn't it win some sort of award for how it dealt with race?

5 Things To Do In TPE (Non-Food Edition)

Let's face it: Taipei has some of the best food in Asia. The recommendations are endless. Rather than have you sit through a novel written on where to eat and what to order, here is Deborah's list of things to do in Taipei that have (almost) nothing to do with eating.

Massage at M-One spa. Their appointments are a minimum of 90 mins but I suggest at least 2 hours so they can really spend time on each problem area. Hot towels throughout the experience help sweat out toxins. Beds have outlets for your cellphone charger. Order the health tea or fresh juice after. They also have a bathroom to shower after — specify if you will use it after and they bring hair dryer, toiletries, etc. This is my favorite massage in the whole world.

Taiwanese hair wash. Find these: 曼都髮型. They are a chain of quick hairwash places around the city. It’s approximatey $10 for hair wash, blow out, quick shoulder rub and coffee. Best deal in town and you haven’t lived if you haven’t gotten one before. 99% of the experience is sitting in a chair while they massage your scalp and make luxurious suddy bubbles that ASMR you to deep relaxation.

Hike Elephant mountain either dawn or dusk and take the iconic photo with Taipei 101. Get a massage AFTER the hike. Your calves will thank you.

A thirty minute drive from the city takes you to Beitou, an area in Taipei with hot springs. Check out Villa 32 for a quiet and relaxing soak (with no kids).

Clubbing. Taiwan is known for their beautiful girls and inexpensive clubbing. Pro tip: you never stay at one club all night -- you rotate to 2-3. Must hit up Belle’s, a fun club hosted by drag queens. Must end the night karaoking at cash box. If hungry and sun not out, head to Liu Mama Cold Noodles (劉媽媽涼麵) and squat with locals while eating yummy sesame noodles with an egg and if sun is out, stand in line at Yong He Soy Milk King (永和豆漿大王) for Taiwanese breakfast. See-- I told you it's hard to not talk about food in Taipei.
