I read up on why Gen Z men voted for Trump this election and turns out it is because women were mean to them
#literally just 'if you demonize and villify men don't be surprised when men vote against you'#HUH???#I am engaged to a Straight White Gen Z Man from Florida and he voted blue#he is nonpartisan as well. he just doesn't agree with the Republican party on anything#and voting for trump is just INSANE. have you guys SEEN him?#sorry i thought i was done thinking about it today but i read a thread and it made me sick#white men. the worst they can do to you is call you names#you will never know what its like to be marginalized. you will never be oppressed#you get to sit there comfortably no matter who's in office#my fiance and I will be fine. but i still care about the people who won't be#us election#us politics

This has basically become a "DEAR GODS PLEASE VOTE AND VOTE BLUE" blog, but I feel justified in this because libraries and librarianship depend on not living under fascism. This applies to libraries everywhere, not just the USA.
#also like. im a queer autistic multiply disabled fat woman with a uterus and ovaries and an iud and many many queer friends#and friends of color and queer family members and disabled family members and many other people who will be massively negatively affected#if we experience another cheeto presidency#many librarians will not only be professionally devastated but personally devastated if things go south this year election wise#there are entire communities of 'lesbrarians' and 'bibrarians' for a reason and it isn't just because we love puns#voting is an issue inherently relevant to libraries as government entities#because while we must be nonpartisan we cannot be neutral#we are an inherently political space

I'm drinking tonight knowing full well that tomorrow morning, at a time that is far too early, 20+ 7-8 year olds are going to have a LOT of questions for me that I am not allowed to answer if I want to keep student teaching 🫠
Oh lord I do not envy teachers who have to speak about this in a nonpartisan manner
#and tbh I feel like#on an institutional level needing to speak about Trump in a nonpartisan manner is a systematic issue#we shouldn’t need to speak about him seriously#the nonprofit I worked for registering people to vote should not have had to act like he was a legitimate PERSON in order to remain nonprofi#etc#like#it’s just bewildering that he tried to overthrow the government and openly wants to undermine democracy and we have to pretend it’s normal#sorry end rant / tangent

my dad talked several times leading up to voting about how he didn't know if he could bring himself to vote for trump....i had actually become hopeful that he would abstain, or go third party at least
#he didn't#i had the opportunity to see and we voted opposite on all but two bubbles for county positions- one of which is nonpartisan#i guess it good to know he's not allergic to voting for democrats as one local managed to persuade him#but damn#it's disheartening#he's listened to me say that i would do anything to keep him out of office and how i would not feel safe living under his administration#but i guess his fear of kamala being too socialist outweighs that#he even said he would have voted libertarian except that guy is too supportive of transgender issues#i don't plan to be in the closet forever with my parents....#but that just solidified that nothing will change until i'm out of college#i wonder how my mom voted#she's always been quieter about that#i'm pretty sure she hates trump though#maybe there's hope yet#sorry that became a ramble#election day is really hanging over my head#i miss not knowing that human rights were ever at stake here

not having a campaign website + profile through the state voter info site is almost always a disqualifier, but for the rare double whammy, be sure to have a heavy, unconnected internet presence revealed when i google your email where you are revealed to be 1) an insane bigot and 2) as seen on TLC
#politics#ink post#this time we had 4 websites of acceptable quality 2 insane bigots and 2 internet ghosts#i can't vote for you if i can't find ANYTHING about you except results for someone with the same name in another state!#those 2 i turned up maybe the right person's deeply ambiguous business#and probably the right person's affiliation w/ the county gop despite running as 'nonpartisan'#like i had problems with all 4 with websites but it was a close race for my 3 votes bc like. at least they seem competent#at least they HAVE platforms and my big local-scale issue is water which they were all good on#so it came down the level of passion for stuff like parks fire stations etc#and i put in the work! i do v thorough research! both for a personal desire to be well informed and bc my family all vote off my notes#if i click the 'view profile' button and you havent submitted a 5 minutes of effort profile i cant imagine the regular joe votes for you!#it's a good size city personal connections voting bc they know your name don't actually cut it alone!

I see posts going "Okay, I'll vote for Kamala, I GUESS IF I HAVE TO" and "omg if that's the best we can do I suppose I'll support it" and I'm like...
What do you people fucking WANT?
Let's run down how she's rated politically by some organizations that we vibe with, kay?
ACLU = 93% on civil liberties
AFL-CIO = 100% on trade unions
Human Rights Campaign = 100% on queer rights
League of Conservation Voters = 91% on environmentalism
NARAL = 100% on reproductive rights
NRA Fund = 7% on gun rights (we LIKE a low score on this one)
NEA = 100% on education
Planned Parenthoos = 100% on reproductive rights
In addition, GovTrack (which is a nonpartisan tracker) places her in the MOST politically left-leaning categories of Senators. So we've got a very liberal, woman of color who's spent her career trying to mitigate draconian tough-on-crime laws to benefit the accused and keep black people out of prison and decrease recidivism and that's somehow...just barely tolerable.
So I ask again...what is that you're dissatisfied with? Is it Palestine? as recently as March she was calling for a ceasefire and demanding aid to Gaza. Keep in mind she's pretty constrained as to what's possible to do in this situation.
Is it just that she was a prosecutor? That is an important job that needs to be done and we WANT people doing it who aren't rah-rah tough-on-crime Gestapo types, which she is not. We need prosecutors who are addressing the root causes of crime and looking for ways to help people escape the cycle, which she has done to the point that she was often called SOFT on crime.
So what is your objection here? Is it that her politics aren't 100% aligned with a bunch of Tumblr socialists? I got news for you...we Tumblr socialists DO NOT REPRESENT THE ELECTORATE. If such a candidate existed, they would not win.
Democrats struggle sometimes because our tent is large. Republicans just want you if you're a straight white man and preferably rich. There's room for a lot more types in the lefty side, but sadly that means a lot of room also for dissention among the ranks. This is how they get us. Let's not let them, huh? Just a suggestion.

Uncertainty in Nevada as Early Voting Concludes
Uncertainty Looms as Early Voting Concludes in Nevada As early voting wraps up in Nevada, a sense of uncertainty permeates the air among the state’s seasoned pollsters, political pundits, and operatives. These individuals, well-acquainted with the nuances of close elections, find themselves grappling with an unusually challenging task: predicting the outcome of this year’s presidential…

How to Fix the Broken Electoral College
For more than 50 years, Common Cause and their members have fought for the democracy we deserve,[1] working to make every vote equal with the National Popular Vote. The National Popular Vote compact is based on a simple principle: the American people should pick who serves as the President of the United States and the candidate with the most votes should win. National Popular Vote would…

an interesting development in this election cycle is that i am now getting ads in which right-wing dudebro podcasters/influencers with bad haircuts unenthusiastically reverse their stance on voting and say that actually it does matter and you should do it and can register at the link below
like, buddy, put some joie de vivre into it. i can tell that you're new at this because you suck. the libs are owning you man, they're genuinely and earnestly out there getting people signed up while you're treating this like an ad read for Raid: Shadow Legends.
it's really funny to see them caught up in the conundrum of being obviously paid to encourage people to genuinely engage in civics while also not being so enthusiastic that they lose the attention and respect of their audience whose primary sense of identity is rooted in ironic detatchment from society.
#every once in a while i will watch a single YouTube video about World War Two and the algorythm thinks i'm some kind of right-wing dudebro#and it is very annoying#please stop that#i really don't enjoy having content shoved in my face that says my friends and coworkers don't belong in society#as a podcastless and irrellevant non-rightwing non-dudebro with a sensibly obtuse haircut i will also say please vote#go directly to vote.gov or your state's secretary of state or election office's website or a reliable place like vote.org#don't go to some sketchy website promoted by influencers that didn't exist 6 months ago#unironically and enthusiastically please vote#i already have and you should to#especially in the races you've never heard of like school boards and judges and university boards of regents#get a sample ballot and the google the candidates' names; their campaign website will usually have an endorsement section#in my state it's pretty cut and dry; the Democratic candidates for these races are all endorsed by unions and Planned Parenthood#and the Republicans and nonpartisan conservatives are all endorsed by groups that want to ban books and abortion and queerness as a concept#no candidate can make everything better but about half of them won't make it worse#us politics#elections#us elections#vote#voting

Question: Who Should Christians Vote For?
Allow me to offer a simple take: Christians should vote our sincere conscience. With the election just eight days away as of this writing, we are being bombarded by people trying to tell you who you must vote for and support. Within Christian circles, pastors are telling their churches that they must vote for Trump, not only saying that “you can’t be Christian and vote for Kamala”, but also that…

Hey fellow @ 3rd party\nonpartisan Americans,
It is intentional that the current status quo makes you feel uncomfortable to the point of silence; that allows big business to keep putting YOUR money where THEIR elected official's mouth is.
Demand Dems support Ranked Choice Voting in exchange for the vote.
Vote for Ranked Choice so you can vote honestly, not strategically.
But until then;
Sign my petitions
AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS; STATE GOVERNORS & LEGISLATURES
Implement Ranked-Choice Voting & Election Reforms For Vote Integrity
22 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
I am writing to urge your immediate action on introducing and passing ranked-choice voting (RCV) and other vital election reforms at both the federal and state levels. As a concerned constituent and advocate for democratic principles, I believe that these reforms are essential to improving our electoral processes and ensuring fair and representative governance.
Ranked-choice voting has proven effective in promoting democratic outcomes by enabling voters to express their preferences more fully and ensuring that elected candidates enjoy broad support from the electorate. RCV mitigates wasted votes, reduces the spoiler effect, and fosters more inclusive and issue-focused campaigns.
In addition to advocating for ranked-choice voting, I strongly support comprehensive election reforms, including campaign finance reform, gerrymandering reform, and initiatives to enhance voter access and participation. These reforms are critical to strengthening our democracy and restoring trust in our electoral system.
The implementation of Ranked-Choice Voting is a crucial step towards enhancing our democratic process. RCV, which allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference, ensures that elected officials have majority support, eliminates the spoiler effect, and encourages positive campaigning. This system is already in use in several U.S. cities and countries like Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Alaska recently became the second state to adopt RCV for statewide offices, following Maine's lead. It is time to consider this reform at both federal and state levels to ensure our electoral systems reflect the diversity of our nation and empower all voices. Therefore, I urge you to introduce and support legislation that promotes RCV and other election reforms.
We must recognize that Americans are more than a two-party system. Let's take meaningful steps to ensure our electoral systems reflect the diversity of our nation and empower all voices.
Thank you for considering my perspective and taking decisive action to improve our electoral processes. I stand ready to support your efforts in advancing these important reforms.
