This may be a long post so I apologize in advance.

The other day I watch a video that broke my heart and frankly, made me a little angry.

There was a women with a young girl in front of a bookcase filled with children books.

There would have been about several hundred on the shelf (I’d hazard a guess to around 500-700 books give or take).

They first removed the books that had no female characters. A large portion was removed.

They then proceeded to remove books that had one female character, female characters with non-talking roles and then removed the books where the female characters were princesses. They removed hundreds of books from the shelf and it looked like there was around 30-50 books left that had female characters, with speaking roles that weren’t princesses.

where are all of the books that teach young children that girls can kick ass too? That it’s ok to be the ‘Prince’ and ok to have adventures?

Like I said, it broke my heart.

Then I got thinking, wouldn’t it be pretty awesome to write children's books, based on regular girls in the world, doing what they want.

Like one for each letter of the alphabet, A-Z. a girl and a job

Think for A something like Amy the Astronaut. She loved watching Sci-Fi as a kid, maybe watched female captains exploring the stars and went one day. I want to go to space. Her family would tell her she can’t, but we fast forward though her life, we see her at school, applying herself, learning what it takes. She ends up in space school and excels, because she put her mind to it and wanted it so much and then we see her, in space, looking down at earth with a smile and says something cheesy like ‘it was hard work, but I’m here’ IDK

But it would be all cultures and different jobs.

Maybe a book like Hadya the Hydraulic Engineer. She is from Iran and wears a Hajab and is super awesome, she takes no shit from no one.

Or you could have Undine the upholsterer with red hair and freckles and no one said they had to be big fancy jobs, but jobs that are normal, that they love and that people have told them they cannot be but they are.

and then you get to Pat

Pat the Person. Pat was told that they were a boy, and because of that, they cannot be a girl. but Pat likes dresses and doesn’t like their body. Pat was finding it hard and was getting down until they were told, just because they were in a boys body, they didn’t have to be that. That they are a person, and a person can be who they want. or something.

IDK.

This hasn’t left my head in days.

I would love to do something like this, or have someone out there do something like it.

It would open the eyes of people, especially young girls, showing them that girls can do those jobs too, it doesn’t matter on gender so long as one applies themselves, right?

I’m going to stop here. Sorry for the flood. My brain does weird things and goes on tangents.
