The Jack and Joker ending ended up falling on the side of 'organized crime is for the good of community', which I could maybe see the argument for if it had been positioned in terms of a balancing force against state and police corruption, or even if they'd shown the Four Horsemen to be doing anything other than playing with people's lives, exploiting them, and cheerfully sending people to their deaths for their own amusement. I am flabbergasted.

hate it when that happens :( i hope you're alright, try taking some pain medicine and eating a snack maybe? i hope your mood gets better soon /gen
thank you anon /gen <3
i have a hard time with medicine, but i’m going to take a shower and stretch out quick. clean my room while i’m at it too. the rest of the physical stuff with go with time. i just suck at handling negative emotions so it tends to spill out that way. (also things hurt because i play a high intensity sport that’s back in swing and lift today absolutely killed. good mood had overshadowed it but now that that’s gone. it hurts)
and yeah. to protect mine and my friends privacy i won’t say anything about the situation here, but it’s really really sucky. it didn’t have to happen at all but someone i used to consider a friend made some really awful choices and is continuing to do so. i can’t do anything about it bc as far as anyone involved is aware i have absolutely no clue it happened. but. yeah. i don’t think i’ll ever understand why people choose to be so mean.

It's kind of funny (heartbreaking) that there were multiple Ravens who wanted a number, to the point where some tried to manipulate Jean into helping them one way or another, but none of them would have been next in line. No matter what they did, there was always someone ahead of them on the list. Someone who wasn't even on the team. That someone wasn't Neil. Neil was a surprise to everyone, including Riko. That someone was Andrew.
Kevin might have had to beg Riko to go visit Andrew, and Riko might have laughed at Kevin and dismissed Andrew when Andrew turned him down, but make no mistake, if Andrew had accepted and had become a Raven, he would have taken that #4 spot within his first year.
If we're being real, Andrew had more of a chance at becoming part of the perfect Court than any of those Ravens ever had. Even Jean thinks of Andrew as one of them.
The other Ravens never stood a chance.

Me trying to explain BOTC to my friends: no but it’s really funny because the marionette lycanthrope tried to kill the sailor, which accidentally makes them both look on the level because a marionette doesn’t actually have powers but perfectly chose the one person who wouldn’t set off false drunk or poison pings or put suspicion on one of them because if the sailor is attacked by the lycanthrope the demon still gets a kill! and the marionette still believes they’re a good player which makes them all the more useful for the demon to make big plays! it’s perfect!
my friends: are you okay?

Aesop arrives, holding himself upright as ever, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath before properly approaching. "...I think enough time has passed." He decides not to mention that it has only been a few days since the last meeting. He also chooses to ignore that he did not fully understand the instructions he was given, to wait until he'd cleared his head somewhat. What he did do, was hand over a letter, carefully folded and sealed, handwriting clearly measured, as if the words were considered before writing them down. "I believe something with as much weight as what you had given me previously warrants a proper response... take as long as you need." Once the paper is taken, Aesop folds his hands in front of him and waits.
[Eternity is a long time to wait, I more than know that. Even if I have not existed within it, it is what I have learned to deal with. I will not pretend to know your situation, I will not pretend I do not wish for you to finally rest, but... not looking for allies, yet not wanting to be alone. It is hard for me to separate friends and allies, but... I suppose someone outside of everything you have would be pleasant.
I have learned of many belief systems, but... I personally struggle to see luck as much of a factor. We have much in common, yes, but... who is to say that is entirely good? I had to pause when you described me as 'disillusioned', but... it makes sense. Regrettably. Perhaps I thought that with how little I had known you and how I had been expected to act around those of your status, everything could be taken away easily. I was also too eager to receive the title of 'friend', with how little I had heard it, even if I knew nothing of what lay within.
I do not know if my head is as clear as you would like, but... I do not wish to make you wait forever. You said eternity is too long to spend alone, after all.]

I'm not exactly sure how I want to phrase this yet, but I think a lot of the utterly weird takes I see sometimes float by me on our cursed blue hellsite (esp when it comes to mdzscql fandom) is coming from a refusal to meet the genre where it's at.
Like, why are we trying to interrogate classism in MDZS society, MDZS is a romance, the societal worldbuilding is just enough to support some general big ideas and the provide context for the romance. We can't get ANY kind of read on general classim/sexism/anything else from. this source material. if you think you can get granular when your sample size of characters from various social and gender strata are so small and we don't know how the vast majority of people in here live you are making stuff up.
Like, meet the story where it's at: it's a romance novel.

honestly i just dont get why sometimes people get all weird about quadrants and insist they’re unhealthy always no matter what
like yeah im not stupid i know they CAN be fucked up and can be weird and toxic but so can any romance. human romance has been toxic and fucked up for me many times. tbh if we take a step back and just look at the basic ideas of all of them i don’t think any of those have to be evil and terrible necessarily
like oh no me and my boyfriend have a fun rivalry that we both like being in and both agreed to where we have fun competing with each other and talking shit and then make out! FUCK!!! that’s horrible i would NEVER want that! i would never be guilty of forcing my boyfriend to play tetris with me over and over and insulting him the entire time
oh no my boyfriend has anxiety and i calm him down! oh god we like cuddling and talking about feelings! we both agreed we like this relationship dynamic and feel fulfilled by it! AAA SCARY!!! GET SCARED!!!
oh no sometimes my boyfriends are both annoying and i voluntarily get between that and make people be less annoying! FUCK!!!!!!!! we are going to DIVORCE!!!

Anyway I wish this show was actually bold enough to give Miguel an arc exploring his feelings of entitlement over the captaincy spot. Throughout the show Johnny has repeatedly told Miguel that Robby is a lost cause but hey, It’s okay because he has Miguel now. That Miguel’s his champion, his Number One Boy. So how could Miguel not feel at least somewhat entitled to the captain spot? How could he not feel insecure about his place in Johnny’s life with Robby not just back in the picture, but now literally taking the number one spot? When Johnny has repeatedly put into both kids heads that when it comes to his love and attention its one vs. the other, how could there be no lingering feelings of resentment and jealousy?
#like my kingdom for them to let miguel have Real Actual Feelings about anything ever!#i dont have any real hopes of them actually exploring this#i think any frustration miguel feels towards robbys will be framed solely in the context of him being stressed about getting into stanford#which is also like. i wish this show would show us WHY miguel cares so much about stanford#and its not like its not understandable!#people talk about robbys trauma bc its so plainly obvious#but after the year or two miguels had it makes sense that he wants a real tangible Win#that he wouldn’t want all the pain and trauma to be for nothing. that he can spin it as a triumphant story of how he overcame#some extreme adversity to get into one of the top schools in the country#but the show hasnt actually shown us that miguel feels that way at all#and i dont need them to spell it all out for me hut man it would be nice to give us SOMETHING. literally anything even remotely close to an#actual arc for Miguel before the show ends#and like none of this is miguel or johnny or robby hate btw…characters are flawed and thats a good thing#i just wish the show would actually explore the impact of those flaws on the people around them#and also jealousy is a very normal feeling as is competition in sports#but it would be cool if the explored how that is compounded by everything johnny has put these kids through and the way he has constantly#even if unintentionally positioned them against each other#but anyway!#cobra kai#miguel diaz#robby keene

this is a surprise to no one but i’m thinking of the twins again. cause i don’t know whether we’re told when tilda developed her drug addiction but considering her erratic behaviour surrounding the twins birth im assuming she was already using prior to the twins arrival. and if she was using before, during, and after giving birth, that introduces so many heartbreaking possibilities for the twins.
this one ran away from me (they say, as tho they don’t always)
i see people saying they just couldn’t take andrew or aaron seriously because they’re five foot even cause that’s a funny height apparently and i just think: did u know a long term impact of prenatal drug use is impaired growth? add that to potential malnutrition and yeah suddenly it’s not that funny anymore. besides andrew being short probably made him seem like an easy target to his abusers which is what made it necessary for him to learn to defend himself in the first place sooo
other impacts of prenatal drug use: altered brain development, cognitive and behavioural issues, damaged communication/language development, newborns can be born addicted and subsequently go through withdrawals (called neonatal abstinence syndrome, which has a long list of symptoms and can cause newborns to be hospitalised or worse). in any context, this is a horribly traumatic thing for a baby to go through but then consider this:
andrew’s brain is already struggling to develop properly thanks to his mother’s drug abuse. and then you add on frequent repetitive abuse including but not limited to several occurrences of child sa. already a 7 year old brain is not wired to be able to cope with that. tie that in with his significant abandonment issues stemming from first his mother and then every subsequent family he stays with giving him up. his own narrative tries so hard to doom him, and he responds to that the only way he can: through anger. violence. how else was he supposed to respond? yes this is more andrew defence bc it seems there’s been a sudden influx of andrew hate and it boils my piss
that brings me to a new point: andrew as a newborn. and his foster family does not want to give him the extra attention he needs as a baby born through prenatal drug use. so they give him up. again and again. so
but to talk about aaron for a sec - not only could he have been born addicted, but being breastfed by a drug user (it’s up in arms whether tilda would breast feed) also has its symptoms - can make the baby sick, can ruin its sleep, cause later behavioural issues and even transfer the drug to the baby. aaron, living with tilda, was also doomed to follow the narrative.

The biggest thing about S6B that doesn't make sense is Tory even being at the Sekai Taikai.
Like in S4 we get introduced to Tory's aunt who outright tells Tory she's basically just waiting for Tory's mom to die so she can take Tory's little brother and collect Tory's mom's life insurance.
And now this season Tory's mom dies and Tory just dips out the country for a big ass fucking karate tournament? And we haven't heard one word about Tory's little brother and where he's at while Tory's off in another country.
The only way that makes any kind of sense is that sometime between her mom dying and her leaving for the Sekai Taikai her aunt did in fact show up, took her little brother and all the life insurance money, then dipped leaving Tory all alone.
Because if she didn't do that, then that means Tory basically just abandoned her little brother all alone back in the Valley after their mother died. It means that she dipped off to another country for a karate tournament, leaving her little brother back home all alone to deal with his grief without her. It means she left instead of staying to protect her brother from their aunt who would take advantage of Tory not even being in the country, to swoop in, take Brandon and whatever life insurance money there is!
And this is completely out of character for Tory. She's been helping to take care of and raise her brother for years. And she was extremely protective of him during that conversation with her aunt! It just doesn't make sense for Tory to even go to the Sekai Taikai with her mom dying suddenly like that. Especially with them not telling us what happened to her brother or where he's at during all this!!!

i need more episodes about adrien just trying new things and gradually figuring out what he wants to spend his time doing, what classes and hobbies he genuinely enjoys, and then eventually, what he'd like to pursue professionally. i never really thought about running before sublimation and while i still don't think that's actually his passion, i love that he connected the act of running to the freedom and joy he gets when he's being chat noir, running around paris saving people. one of my favorite things about adrien that a lot of people in fandom especially in fics miss is that just because he's decent or even great at several things doesn't mean he has a personal connection to that thing. in early ml he was acting in his friends' student films, playing sports to different results, fencing with his friends, participating in band, even modeling for fun. in climatiqueen, he discovered he was decent at drawing, a mess with labwork, quick with languages (no surprise there), and v new to baking—all things he could improve upon but nothing that made him feel passion. but he specified the reason he had fun trying those things wasn't the things themselves but because he was doing them with marinette, same as before when he took skills he was forced to acquire by his father and re-utilized them to hang out with his friends despite not feeling a personal connection to any of those hobbies or talents. i don't know if the show plans on him discovering this soon (they're sooooo young, i hate that he is even stressing about this just because his friends are not normal and because the french school system has most people declare their course of study in lycée) but i'm just excited to see him branch out and try new things and get the life experience he was denied when he was younger.
and running away from the agreste manor (where he was confined and forced to be a perfect mold) as his first step toward self discovery? brilliant imagery.
#adrien agreste#ml spoilers#ml s6 spoilers#miraculous#miraculous ladybug#i don't know exactly where they'll go from here but my guess is “running” isn't going to lead to adrien pursuing track & field seriously bu#rather that the reason he went from realizing he LOVES being chat noir more than anything else to running is that sense of freedom and#adrenaline rush he gets in battle. (running is like the first thing he's doing solely because he likes the way he feels when he does it#so there's no way they'll make him do it competitively the way sublime does because that's the kind of thing his father did:#all his hobbies and skills had to serve a purpose and serve as an example of him being exceptional#i'm excited for him to just do things because he likes them and maybe eventually find something he wants to dedicate his life to from there#looking at the other things he enjoys (not the activities themselves but lending his talents to his friends so they can pursue their own#interests and dreams) and the general sense that part of what he's gotta love about being chat noir is being able to actually help people#that it makes him feel more fulfilled than merely being some kind of celebrity model or actor or musician#i feel like whatever his true passion is has to combine that rush of freedom with that act of service#i've actually never read a fic where his true calling is something like this over being a (depressed) celeb in a career he hates#(maybe the ones that have him pursue teaching rather than just science for research or knowledge's sake)#so i'm soooo curious about this even if it (realistically!) doesn't happen in this one season#mildly related but mentioned it offhand in another post but adrien taking ancient greece just for the hell of it makes me so happy#like that's my bby nerd trying all things even if none of his friends have any interest in those subjects ilhsm

As much as I love the reading of Bleach’s ending as a tragedy, one thing’s always bugged me about it and it’s why Renji has a happy ending. Like out of the core cast (in my eyes this is Ichigo, Rukia, Orihime, Chad, Uryuu, Renji & maybe Byakuya, just cause they’re most consistently prominent in the arcs) he!s the only one that doesn’t have the easy argument that he’s settled or unhappy with the epilogue, like Ichigo & Rukia you can argue their with people that aren’t who they love, Uryuu is a doctor and alone while his friends celebrate, Chad is using his fists for profit, Orihime is still at the bakery and never got to live the dreams she had (also she was probably kicked out of home at post high school because her aunt housing her was dependant on her grades) and Byakuya is tied with Rukia being unhappy.
But Renji is seemingly the happiest he’s ever been, he’s married the woman he’s spent over 80 years crushing on and he has a kid with her. But then it hit me the other day that’s exactly why his ending is one of the worst out of the characters I’ve mentioned. When Renji actually gains some detail as a character we find out he has one major goal in life, surpass Byakuya and save Rukia from the Kuchiki’s (slight paraphrasing). But Renji never manages any of it. He fails to both save Rukia and defeat Byakuya in the Soul Society arc, firstly because he’s too scared to try to go against them and then because he’s too weak (both these goals are also largely dropped here and Renji just kind of floats along as one of Ichigo’s multiple rivals and has no more character growth or change) but Ichigo achieves both of these goals rather easily in comparison. Ichigo unlocks Bankai ridiculously faster than Renji does and then defeats Byakuya and saves Rukia.
Meaning there’s nothing left for Renji to do. Sure he could continue trying to conquer Byakuya, but he never seems to reach his level (especially going by the fact Renji’s still his vice captain in the epilogue.) Byakuya is still the star Renji can’t reach. Same with Rukia, sure he marries her but she’s still Rukia Kuchiki. Hell she’s even a captain now while Renji is still a vice captain, not only is Rukia still as far from him as she was in the soul society arc she’s even further away, he’s just the stray dog barking at the moon he called himself back in the soul society arc. But then just like his goals if you compare it to Ichigo, ichigo does it. Ichigo’s symbolism is the rain is dried by the white moon, the moon is reachable by Ichigo, we’re shown one of Byakuya’s central beliefs of who he is loyalty to Ichigo. But Renji is trapped on earth seperate, never truly reaching the star or the moon.
And with how we’re shown Renji thinks about himself he’d never let himself forget it. Every member of his immediate family other than his daughter is someone he’s separated himself from in his mind and since we never get shown anything to indicate that changes, Occam’s razor suggests it doesn’t. Somthat’s renji’s tragedy in the ending. His entire life is reminding him every goal he ever set he not only failed but someone else achieved. That’s the tragedy of Renji’s ending and really is the final nail in the coffin that no one is truly happy or anything past content in Bleach’s ending.

Watching Severance does feel a bit like reading a fic with 15000 word chapters that are almost entirely world-building and setup and there are only 2/47 chapters published and those came out 3 years apart
#the same sense of teetering uncertainty. like there is something in someone's mind but will it get out? probably not#the thing that gives me hope is there's a pretty strong track record of simplifying and circling back to plot points#instead of casting the net of things that happen ever wider (looking at you orphan black)#many of the very weird nonsensical elements are meant to just be weird and nonsensical. like yes there's a severed marching band#no we don't need to explore that any further it just is what it is#ms cobel seemed like a weird outlier to the plot but they tied her in exactly to the heart of it#(by the way i know none of you know about this but one thing i immediately realized that i don't think other tumblrites saw#is that her mrs selvig behavior in s1 was not a trick either in her different demeanor or her apparent care for mark#he is not just her science experiment. his outie—and her mrs selvig ''outie''—are her creations free from the company#she truly wanted to be able to perpetuate the kier lumon cult of abuse and control but also set people free of it#it's why she created severance and why she is nasty only to innie mark. he deserves that treatment like she thinks she did growing up#but she made a way for only part of him to deserve that while the rest of him doesn't. she genuinely respects his outie#and wants him to thrive and have a full life outside lumon. separate from his innie. that's her WHOLE DEAL)#anyway where was i#oh yeah so she's hooked right into the heart of the simple central idea and everything she does makes sense in that lens#the birthing cabin bit came back to facilitate a key plot movement and that mystery got solved and laid to rest very simply#(laid to rest as in we know the explanation AND it doesn't give our main characters a further task to accomplish#which i'm just realizing is a huge distinction in storytelling)#it's the whole chikhai bardo thing of the big secret at the heart of Severance is just. severance.#and even in the s2 finale the agenda was very simple and stayed the same throughout and the climactic tension was still just severance#like oh she's in the basement? we'll just get her out#the drama came from all the established pieces colliding on the outcome of that#rather than from that goal getting thwarted#idk man it's Good Storytelling enough to make me willing to trust it#severance#severance spoilers
