-via PinkNews, June
//On Friday (9 June), the Nordic country joined Canada, Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, Germany, France, Malta and New Zealand in banning harmful conversion practices.
Not a single representative voted against the bill, proposed by Viðreisnar parliamentary party chair and Reform Party MP Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, with 53 voting ‘yes’ and three abstaining.
Friðriksson has previously said that conversion practices are “based purely on ignorance and reactionary ideas” and have “no place in our society”, according to the Reykjavik Grapevine.
According to Ugla Stefanía Kristjönudóttir Jónsdóttir, a writer and expert on LGBTQ+ issues in Iceland, the overwhelming majority voting for the ban in the Althingi (Icelandic parliament) showed that the legislation was widely supported, even after transphobic attempts to kill it.//

Try these three effective strategies for countering racism and hate in public spaces
The last year has been filled with travel across Washington and the nation. As a thirty-year veteran educator, I provide training to teachers, nonprofit boards, government agencies, and businesses on issues related to racial equity and belonging. During the past twelve months, I have been called into more schools than ever before to help communities find healing after a very public conflict or…

People are allowed to decide who they can and cannot give their services to, you fucking freak (coming FROM a gay person) you are all so unbelievably PATHETIC for acting like wedding designers refusing to do shit for us becos of our sexuality is some massive hit to lgbt rights. You all don’t seem to understand we had it much worse, and that this bill is allowing people behavioural freedom. We should be grateful for it, it’s not right to force people to do things they don’t want to with their own businesses.
It's not an object to me, because I would never deliberately hire a Christian to design anything if my queer heathen ass were getting married.
And that isn't the point, because what I know is this: legally this is purely another step towards removing nondiscrimination protections entirely.
Do you really think that they're going to stop at websites and wedding cakes?
It's about removing legal protections against discrimination in all areas for the entire LGBTQ+ community. This court case was never about a wedding website, the designer in question was never hired to design a website for a gay couple--this case was entirely about attacking and weaking a nondiscrimination law.
I hope you get your wish.
And when your Christian landlord evicts you, when you are fired from your job for posting a wedding picture of yourself and your partner on social media, when your children are denied opportunities for having same gender married parents, when your family is refused service in restaurants, when doctors refuse to treat you, when the pharmacy refuses to fill your prescriptions, and when the EMTs let you die on the street because saving your gay ass is an affront to Jesus...
I hope you remember to feel grateful.

posting on here really is just being expected to say ‘sorry for being desensitized by facing daily, real life homophobia and the constant threat of being killed for being a faggot-tranny to where i forgot to take into consideration that youre gonna be a whiny bitch about me making a light-hearted joke about a fictional character on my own blog’ while not feeling sorry at all.

Inexplicably just got two letters from Aetna asking for additional information for prescription drug prior authorization in the state of Florida. Couple of things wrong with that: - the prior authorizations have already been approved - I don’t live in the state of Florida and never have - the information it asks for is information I cannot provide, only my doctor can, and she’s named on the paperwork so they definitely know how to send her the letters - I’m not in Florida???? Why Florida?????

having our local house district flip red sucks for a variety of reasons but im now faced with writing resistbot letters about the latest anti trans federal nonsense (HR734 - still in committee, doubtful to go anywhere and would be vetoed anyway but want to stomp on it hard) and like. trying to remember how i write letters to republican lawmakers. before i would be like hey i’m your trans constituent i know i can count on you to support human rights for people like me. now i’m like. this is unnecessary big government intrusion into the private lives of young women (which. is true. but me? using the phrase ‘big government’? mirrorverse shit) and everyone should get the opportunity to play youth sports because they are <checks notes> an all american tradition that instills values. hoorah?!

Referendum 101 kaput: Right wing effort to overturn new law protecting trans youth fails
A right wing effort to force a statewide vote on a new Washington State law supporting youth and young adults seeking protected health care services has failed, which means that the law can go into effect tomorrow as scheduled. Dawn Land and other right wing activists and operatives had hoped to gather enough signatures to put Senate Bill 5599 up for a vote this November. They needed to collect…

“What Xichen is trying to say,” Nie Mingjue jumps in when Lan Wangji doesn’t reply, “is that it’s best to do a background check on him. Make him sign a couple of NDA’s. Maybe casually mention that you have a bodyguard at public events, just in case he tries anything.”
“All reasonable precautions,” Lan Xichen agrees. “I know it hurts, Wangji. But it’s easy to get burned.”
There is a brief pause, wherein all three of them stop and remember Meng Yao.
Then, Nie Mingjue says, “And don’t buy him a fucking car, what the fuck.”
“There comes a time at every kidnapping when one must consider one’s past actions and ask oneself, Is this in any way my fault?” Lan Xichen adds.
this lan xichen has me in tears

New York University led by troubling example when the school shared an updated code of student conduct last week. Ostensibly aimed at curtailing bigotry, the new language instead shuts down dissent by threatening to silence criticism of Zionism on campus. Students who speak out against Zionism — an ethno-nationalist political ideology founded in the late 19th century — will now risk violating the school’s nondiscrimination policies.[...]
Tucked into a document purportedly offering clarification on school policy, the new NYU guidelines introduce an unprecedented expansion of protected classes to include “Zionists” and “Zionism.” Referring to the university’s nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policy, known as NDAH, the updated conduct guide says, “Speech and conduct that would violate the NDAH if targeting Jewish or Israeli people can also violate the NDAH if directed toward Zionists.”[...]
“Using code words, like ‘Zionist,’” the guide says, “does not eliminate the possibility that your speech violates the NDAH policy.”[...]
The entire premise of the guidance — that “Zionist” must be functioning as a “code word — is a flaw egregious enough to reject the entire document outright.
The language here is of utmost importance. The text does not say that “Zionist” can and has been used by antisemites as a code word, which is no doubt true. Instead, it takes it as a given that, when used critically, “Zionist” simply is a code word.[...]
According to NYU’s guidance, then, Zionist and Zionism are either antisemitic dog whistles when invoked critically or a protected category akin to a race, ethnicity, or religious identity. Ethically committed and politically informed anti-Zionism — including the beliefs of many anti-Zionist Jews like myself who reject the conflation of our identity and heritage with an ethnostate project — is foreclosed, and the long history of Jewish anti-Zionism, which has existed as long as Zionism itself, is all but erased.[...]
“For many Jewish people, Zionism is a part of their Jewish identity,” the NYU guidance says. And this is of course true. That does not, however, make Zionism an essential part of Jewish identity.
There are conservative Christians for whom the damnation of homosexuality is a key part of their Christian faith too, but Republican lawfare to see homophobic positions enshrined as protected religious expression have been rightly and consistently condemned by the liberal mainstream.
“The new guidance sets a dangerous precedent by extending Title VI protections to anyone who adheres to Zionism, a nationalist political ideology, and troublingly equates criticism of Zionism with discrimination against Jewish people,” NYU’s Faculty for Justice in Palestine said in a statement in response to the updated conduct guide.[...]
“Furthermore, the new guidance implies that any nationalist political ideology (Hindu nationalism, Christian nationalism, etc.) that is integrated into some members of that group’s understanding of their own racial or ethnic identity should be entitled to civil rights protections.”
