I forgot to mention but Saturn being in the 8th house in the Juno Persona chart (as well as natal chart) usually indicates that your future spouse might've struggled financially i.e not financially stable/well-off. They could come from a lower income area or country, but also born into a low to middle class income household. Money has always been an issue or a hard aspect in their life.
In the Groom or Briede persona chart, it's Saturn in the 2nd house.

How Evan's Future Spouse (soulmate?) Will Feel About Him (Anon Request )
Sun: Joyful and happy. Optimistic. This is a highly fertile card. I think she sees him as someone she can have kids with. Perhaps maybe she is someone that says she doesn't want kids and then will when she meets Evan. This may also indicate that Evan makes her feel carefree like a kid. ❤️
6 of Swords Rev.: The past may be haunting her and fear and anxiety may delay happiness. She may try to resist this change in her life and exhibit some self sabotaging behavior. I think one of the OG's saw this too. That she may give Evan a run for his money. Not that she is intentionally playing hard to get. But, stubborn.
Fool Rev.: She sees the journey ahead, but hesitates to take the first steps. She may be a bit indecisive, reckless and unprepared. Possibly a bit naive.
Page Of Swords: They will like to explore and learn new things together. Music art, theater. Possibly new cultures. They both have a creative side and they will enjoy that aspect of each other. This will help them have better communication as well.
3 of Pents: This indicates meeting someone at work. I picked up on this in a previous reading. They work well together and as a team. There is balance here. They share common goals.
5 of Cups: This comes up again as holding onto grief from her past and it needs to be let go. I think Evan makes her feel supported and safe. They most likely both have these feelings and they will help heal each other.
Lovers: Yes! The best card to have. Signifies a strong bond, desire for each other, balance, aligned values, harmony, attraction. My book says "are there wedding bells in the future?"
6 of Pents: She will most likely be financially stable, but if not, Evan will share with her. This could also signify her feeling grateful for Evan and feeling wealthy in non monetary ways. There is equal give and take. In love this represents being in a good place.
7 of Wands: She will defend Evan til the end. Willing to fight for him.
Justice: She will be focused on the relationship. Balance, fairness and honesty. May also signify marriage.
Hanged Man: Evan allows her to see the world through a different perspective. She is willing to sacrifice some things for this relationship. Maybe her perspective on marriage and kids or love in general will change when they meet. She will learn to not be so hard on herself and accept she can have it all.
5 of Pents: She will know she has everything she needs right in front of her. Evan will make her feel like she can get through anything with him by her side. ( God, I love that feeling. Good for them)
2 of Cups Rev.: Evan will help her focus on self love and ridding of her insecurities and I'm sure she will do the same for him.
The Hierophant: I have seen that other people get the feelings she will be from overseas. This is the first card I have personally seen that may back that up. This card represents shared goals and tradition. However, there may be a cultural difference between the two, but Evan will respect it and adapt.
Knight of Pents: Things may occasionally become routine (like all relationships) so they will try new and exciting things. There is hesitation of commitment from someone, possibly both (match made in heaven, sorry Ev!)
King of Swords: This will be a mature relationship. This card represents a fatherly figure, which leads me to think they will have children together. Although, I do keep wondering if there will be a blended family dynamic there. I see structure, intellect and authority. I think she will see him as an amazing dad!! ❤️

Blood and Thorns - Chapter 6 (Part 1)
Chapter 6 (Part One): Engagements and Decisions (Read Chapter 1 (part one) here) - (See here for a complete list of chapters)
The following day went exactly how everyone had expected. Sapphire, Frigga, and Leland dined with the Magnus-Monroe’s at their large mansion. The home was grand and the epitome of class, simple to look at but rich with lavish details. White marble floors, light wooden hand rails lining the staircases, and plush chaises and chairs in every room. Theodore was a generous man but was also incredibly practical. Since the death of his wife some years previously, they had been conservative with parties and gatherings, favouring to pour their resources into the coven. The patriarch saw it as an investment for his son, Marcus, who he hoped would marry into one of the families of witches. Of course, he would support Marcus no matter who the man chose, but he’d had made very little indication towards any serious intentions. So Theodore decided to help his son along Marcus was on board for the most part. He didn’t want to pressure his son, but the fact of the matter was it was a good move for everyone involved so when he agreed it was a relief. Not to mention it would likely mean grandchildren, which was not a guarantee with Marcus, and the thought of that made Theodore’s heart sing. To be honest, Theodore was incredibly fond of Frigga in particular, she was basically the perfect role model of what nobility could be: smart, considerate, and graceful. Marcus could scarcely find a better spouse.
So when she accepted the arranged proposal, Theodore was near tears. He had done well for his son and was proud of both of them. They would be marvellous together and he could finally relax a little. So that was that. Marcus Magnus-Monroe and Frigga Thorneheart were engaged. The Magnus-Monroe’s would host an engagement party in a week, and they would be married soon after. Frigga had put on her best performance, was gracious and happy for everyone when Marcus had asked her to marry him, but in her heart she was numb. She knew this wouldn’t make her happy, she knew she was using Marcus, but she also knew she had no choice. She would get through the evening and then she’d cry when she got home. And she did. She said goodnight to her family and her staff a bit earlier than her usual bed time. When she was satisfied she would not be checked in on again for the evening she cast a silencing spell on her room so she could scream and wail in private, her heart finally being allowed to voice itself. She wept for an hour, scrunched in a ball on her bed, grieving for the life she desperately wished for but would never obtain. She always knew this would happen, it was the price of her privilege, and she didn’t know what she had expected would change if she fell in love with someone. Maybe nothing. She had hoped she would fall for someone who was a reasonably good match for her status or at least someone else in the coven’s families, but when she had returned home from school, there had been nobody even remotely interesting for her. Regardless, her attention had immediately been captured in the worst possible way so it wouldn’t have mattered. As she started to catch her breath and calm down she reached a hand out to the empty space beside her on the bed. It was unthinkable she would be allowed to marry a commoner, and a non-magical one at that. In her wildest fantasies Frigga wanted to marry Razi. If Razi had been a witch in the coven it would have been allowed quite easily. If she had been non-magical but from a noble family, that would have been acceptable too. But even if she was suddenly made wealthy now, it wouldn’t be enough. She had nothing to offer the coven so Frigga wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near an officially sanctioned relationship with her. But in her heart, Frigga knew she loved Razi. And with every afternoon they spent together she knew, more and more, her life needed Razi in it. They did spend a few afternoons outside together over the next week, though fewer than usual as Frigga was pulled away by her aunt for party planning duties and a few dress fittings. Sapphire also requested Frigga begin more intense studies into the family ceremonial rituals. That was welcome, at least, there was much Frigga still needed to learn. School had given her the basics and intermediates of general magic practices, but family-specific magic was a different story, so Frigga was eager to dive into it. But it did take her away from her botanical studies outside, which was a pity. This time of year was bursting with life, Frigga just wanted to bury her hands in some dirt and smell all the flowers that were bursting into full bloom. The garden Razi had built for her was exquisite and she wanted to spend more time there, all her time if she had her way. It was such a beautiful gesture, and it gave Frigga some hope. You don’t build a fully-fledged garden for someone you intend to stop talking to at some point.
On the afternoons Frigga was holed up in the library, Razi threw herself into her regular duties. Two days before the engagement party, Razi went into town, tasked with picking up some new formalwear that had been ordered for the family. Razi still wasn’t sure what she wanted in this situation, but she was tempted to throw everything out at this point. It was causing a headache and was bringing up some feelings she’d long fought to smother. Frigga had been a little bit right. Razi wasn’t sure if she was ready to let her bachelor ways go yet. A lot of girls in the town had a soft spot for her. All sorts of other spots too, if she asked nicely. Speaking of who, Razi stepped into the dressmaker’s shop, greeted by Angela, lovely as always in her frocks and petticoats. “Well, I’ll be,” the woman greeted from behind her counter. “I thought you’d been abducted Raza.” Razi smirked and walked up to the counter. There was a few other people deeper in the shop but Angela wasn’t the type to be shy about anything. “I heard you have something for the Thornehearts, gorgeous. I’ve come to pick it up.” She leaned an elbow on the counter and gave an easy nod of respect. Angela squinted briefly at Razi, noticing the lack of her usual care-free energy, before scurrying to the back for a half-minute, leaving Razi alone with her thoughts. She absently watched as a light-orb bounced off a wall. Everything really was starting to feel too familiar, Razi had lost count of how many times girls she was seeing would just go off and get married, and the idea it might be happening again with someone she had started to trust? Gods, how dumb was she? She thought she’d have learnt by now, she thought she had. She sighed as Angela returned with the packages. “I think this is what you need?” “I think so, thank you.” “I heard the strangest rumour, Raza.” Razi’s brow piqued as the blonde came to lean on the other side of the counter directly across from her, meeting Razi’s eyes, treating her to a small show in her low-cut dress. “I heard you’d been tamed. For my sake I hope the rumours aren’t true.” “Really now? Where’d you hear that?” Razi wasn’t surprised. She had been almost completely absent from her usual haunts for the last month. The garden work had taken more out of her than her usual workload, so there hadn’t been much time for the pub. Razi wasn’t sure the whole thing had been worth it, not if she had to deal with this much drama. Who was she kidding? Of course it had been worth it, and she hated that. Angela giggled. “I’ve missed you, handsome. People talk. Someone may have mentioned something?” Razi looked at the woman, she was lovely in a lot of ways. Green eyes, pretty face, And while the woman was much more petite than herself, Angela was a hard worker and had a sturdy build. “People talk, huh. Sounds like you’re jus’ tryin’ t’ get me to come back out. Work’s been busy.” “Oh I heard. Lady Sapphire’s been keeping us busy ‘round here, sounds like they’re gonna marry her niece off.” “Sounds like it,” Razi frowned a bit, more than she’d have preferred to, gesturing to the parcels. “More work for me, so you might not see me for a while longer.” Angela watched Razi closely. They knew each other well enough to know when something was off. The grounds woman was usually all confidence and smiles, today she was quiet, introverted. “You alright, Raza?” Razi shrugged. “Sure, I’m always alright.” “I really have missed you. It’s not good to work so much, you know?” “Can I ask you a question, Angie?” Angela nodded and caught Razi’s gaze. “What’s up, handsome?” Razi shuffled a bit. Gods, it was weird asking Angela something like this. “You remember when Bethany got married?” “Six years ago?” “Yeah. You were close with her right?” Angela shrugged. “I guess. I went to the wedding.” “Do you…do you know why she got married t’ Lee? I had no idea until the week after.” Ah, now it all made sense. “Razi, are you asking why she married Lee and not you?” Bingo, Razi froze up, her eyes darted away and she turned her back. “Maybe.” Her voice betrayed nothing, but Angela knew the woman well enough to know what was going on in her head. “It’s not like you ever wanted to settle down, Raza.” “Tha’s not what this is about.” “No?” “Nah, just seems to happen a lot is all.” “Your reputation proceeds you, handsome.” “It didn’t then.” Angela shrugged again. “Maybe not. You know, you’re not doing yourself any favours in that regard these days, Raza.” Razi turned to look at the blonde who was still leaning on the counter with a sly smile. Perceptive woman. Why were all the women in Razi’s life so damn perceptive? “What about you, Angie?” She grinned wickedly. “You asking me to marry you, Raza? I’m flattered.” Razi grinned back. An old joke of theirs. “Right. I’ll go get my best suit then.” “I bet you look gorgeous in it, huh?” “Been told, but I wouldn’t hold a candle t’ your gorgeousness on the average day.” Razi was half-tempted to stay and flirt more. It’d be a fun distraction, but she really had to move on to the rest of her to-do list. “Thanks for the chat, Angie.” The woman stepped around the counter up to her, placing a kiss on her cheek. “Of course, and good luck with whatever’s going on, sweets. I hope she knows how lucky she is, whoever it is.” Razi smiled and set off from the shop with her charming farewell, and sighed. Walking down the street with her first pick-up of the day, she thought back to the conversation she and Frigga had in the garden last week. Frigga asked her to figure out what she wanted and Razi wasn’t sure if she was any closer to figuring it out. In the window of the shops she was passing she saw some floral arrangements and wondered absent-mindedly if Frigga would have any say in the flowers for her own wedding. Fuck, Frigga’s wedding to some pompous, rich man? The thought made Razi sick. The whole situation made her angry, actually. Some family, huh? Marrying their very gay kid off to some rich guy so they can make magical rich babies so they can keep making magical rich babies, what was the point? And what use was magic anyway if they were captive to that bullshit? Had Frigga been some girl in town, Razi would have jumped at marrying her. She was smart and kind-hearted, a rarity for rich families. She just wanted everyone to be happy and would do everything to make it happen, even if it meant sacrificing herself. Some may count that as a virtue, being generous or caring about others first, but Razi? Razi called it pointless. She’d had to grow up quickly when her mother left, and she found out soon if you didn’t take care of yourself, everyone would take advantage of you until your well was dry. They didn’t care about you if it meant they got ahead. That’s the same across social status, you can be poor and an asshole, after all. Razi’s dad was a hard-working man but became distant when his wife split, and he never fully recovered, passing a few years later. They had worked at the Thorneheart estate since Razi was small. When he passed ten years ago, Sapphire Thorneheart had been quite accommodating, arranging for her to have a lodging in the house and a place to engage in any studies, if she wanted. Razi wasn’t much for books though, favouring her work in the kitchens and around the grounds. It was hard work, but she didn’t mind; she took pride in it. But she’d seen her fair share of pointless political spats from within these aristocrats’ lives, and it made Razi glad she didn’t have to care about it at all. Her job required no emotional investment and that’s how she liked it. Never in her wildest dreams would she have guessed Frigga would be seriously interested in her. What? This heiress, who had everything she could ever want and her choice of the coven’s offspring, was interested in her? Razi knew she was charming, that she was very good at getting girls’ attention, but she hadn’t been trying with Frigga, not really. And she’d never have imagined this spoiled brat would actually be the person that made Razi think about settling, about risking getting hurt again. She wanted to settle eventually, she just wasn’t thinking for a few more years. Eventually. But she wanted her own household, not to be some kind of kept woman. And honestly? The thought of being someone’s mistress made Razi incredibly uncomfortable. To be thrown scraps of spare time when the man of the house allowed it? No thanks! To think her life would, in any way, revolve around the whims of a man was preposterous. It was bad enough being hung out to dry once, but for that to happen regularly? Absolutely not. She wouldn’t do it. If only Frigga could… not be a witch. But she was, and she was set on staying put.

Elizabeth Frauncis
lEizabeth Francis, Fraunces, Frauncis or Frances, In Scotland and England during the sixteenth century spelling was haphazard leading to many words, places and names having several variations. Modern-day texts often use an anglicised version. (c. 1529–1579) was an English woman who was tried three times for witchcraft at the Chelmsford Assizes in Essex. Declared guilty on each occasion, her first two sentences, in 1566 and 1573, were for her to be imprisoned for a year during which she was to be placed in a pillory four times. In 1579, together with three other women, she was charged with bewitchment and murder by witchcraft. She was executed by hanging, probably within days of her third trial.
Each of Elizabeth’s trials is noteworthy for different reasons. Her first was not only the first prosecution under the new Witchcraft Act 1563 – which stipulated capital punishment for those found guilty of causing death by magical means – but the accused were also immortalised in the oldest surviving chapbook on the topic of witches, “The examination and confession of certaine Wytches at Chensforde“. The first pamphlet to cover witchcraft in England,[13] the chapbook was published in three parts throughout August 1566; it gives an accurate reflection of the indictments held at the Public Records Office. Following her third trial thirteen years later, at which she pleaded her innocence, Elizabeth was featured in another pamphlet, “A Detection of Damnable Driftes“.
Despite the Act mandating that a guilty verdict handed down for a second offence of witchcraft was punishable by death, at her second trial Elizabeth received the more lenient sentence of a year in gaol, owing to errors in the drafting of her indictment.

Personal life
lEizabeth Francis, Fraunces, Frauncis or Frances, was born in about 1529. A resident of the small village of Hatfield Peverel, about five miles (8 km) north-east of Chelmsford, when Elizabeth was twelve-years-old, her grandmother, Eve, had schooled her in the skills of witchcraft. Eve also gave her a pet cat.
Possessing a poor reputation and of low character, Elizabeth’s impoverished circumstances meant she often resorted to begging or had to rely on poor relief. She had a brief sexual relationship with Andrew Byles, whom she considered to be wealthy, but he refused to marry her. Worried that she might be having his child, Elizabeth took herbal remedies that would induce an abortion if she had conceived. Shortly afterwards, the assets of Byles dwindled and he soon died.
Later, Elizabeth was married to Christopher Francis, a yeoman The couple had one child a daughter, who was born around three months after the pair were married but the baby died when about six months old. Married life was a constant round of heated arguments with her husband, who had a surly disposition.
First trial
Details of Elizabeth’s first trial, held at Chelmsford Assizes, are documented in the chapbook “The examination and confession of certaine Wytches at Chensforde“. She was charged under the Witchcraft Act 1563 of bewitching a child, which mandated the death penalty for witches who killed by using magic. It also prescribed that the method of execution should be hanging instead of burning, and that for non-fatal incidents the guilty receive a sentence of incarceration for a year during which they would also spend time in the stocks; Usually they were confined in the pillory for a period of six hours, four times during the 12 month sentence however, if the lesser offence was repeated, a death penalty would be applied. The first major English trial prosecuted under the new Act, proceedings were conducted by an array of prestigious judges, setting a precedent for later trials The four presiding judges were a local dignitary Reverend Thomas Cole, (a strict Calvinist and Archdeacon of Essex from 1559[21]) and Sir John Fortesque, who at the time was keeper of the great wardrobe to Queen Elizabeth, later elevated to Chancellor of the Exchequer; on the second day, judgement was overseen by the Attorney General, Sir Gilbert Gerard together with a Justice of the Queen’s Bench, John Southcote.
Confession and verdict
Elizabeth readily confessed to a variety of wrongdoings. She explained that when she was a child her grandmother, then deceased, instructed her to renounce God and gave her a cat called Sathan. The white-spotted feline spoke to her in a strange hollow voice, promising to fulfil her needs. Normally fed bread and milk, the creature’s diet was supplemented with Elizabeth’s blood. Sathan provided her with livestock – eighteen black and white sheep – that Elizabeth kept in a field for a while, but she did not know what happened to them; the animals just eventually disappeared.
Sathan was, according to the testimony Elizabeth gave to her inquisitors, responsible for enticing Byles into the relationship with her, his loss of wealth, his death and the cat supplied the recipe of herbs needed to terminate any possible pregnancy. At her request, the creature also killed Elizabeth’s baby daughter then, by transforming itself into a toad, caused her husband to become incurably lame.
The final thing she told the justices was that she offered to give Sathan to a poor elderly neighbour, Agnes Waterhouse,– who it was later discovered was her older sister – as recompense for one of the cakes she had seen her baking. Insisting that the story she was growing tired of looking after the cat – Elizabeth had owned it for fifteen or sixteen years by then – was not true, when the sixty-four-year-old agreed to the transaction, she gave her the cat passing on the same instructions for its care as she had received from her grandmother.
Declared guilty of the original charge against her – that of bewitching John, the baby son of another resident of Hatfield Peveril, William Auger, until the child was paralysed – Elizabeth was sentenced to imprisonment for one year plus sessions in the stocks.
Second trial
In 1572, Elizabeth again came to the attention of the authorities when she was accused of using witchcraft to make a woman ill.Her victim, a miller’s wife named Mary Cocke, was severely incapacitated for ten days following the incident on 25 March and feared she was not going to survive. Elizabeth was arrested with her case scheduled to be heard at Chelmsford Assizes in August. The court was very busy during that session – several other witchcraft cases were being heard: one against a woman with four serious charges against her; The woman being prosecuted was Agnes Francis, who may have been Elizabeth’s sister-in-law; she was charged with killing two women, a man and a horse by witchcraft between October 1566 and March 1572. She was deemed guilty but was pregnant so was remanded. a married couple facing a string of bewitchment accusations John and Joan Salmon faced several charges, jointly and separately, of maiming men and killing livestock
And another adult female who allegedly induced serious illness in livestock and a woman Agnes Steadman The documentation for Elizabeth’s case was not correctly presented necessitating the indictment be rewritten. This delayed her trial until 2 March 1573
The revised paperwork was presented at court on 2 March 1573; however, a key component from the original indictment, that of it being Elizabeth’s second offence, was omitted. The legislation in the 1563 Witchcraft Act stipulated the death penalty for subsequent misdemeanours, yet despite the case being heard by one of the judges from her first trial Sitting at the bench were Justice of the Queen’s Bench, John Southcote, – who had overseen her trial in 1566 and Robert Monson her punishment was once more that she be jailed for a year with periods in the stocks. Historians differ on whether the plea was innocent or guilty: Peter Maxwell-Stuart indicates Elizabeth pleaded guilty to the charge whereas Cecil L’Estrange Ewen and Rossell Hope Robbins state she claimed innocence. The leniency of her sentence is especially noteworthy as the judges had no qualms prescribing the death penalty for three others declared guilty of witchcraft at the same time. The three incurring the death penalty were: Catherine Pullen, William and Margery Skelton. All were accused of killing a variety of people by witchcraft
Third trial
he illustration from the pamphlet “A Detection of Damnable Driftes” of the shaggy dog apparition seen by Elizabeth Source: Witchcraft in England 1558-1618
By 18 March 1574, Elizabeth had served her sentence and returned to Hatfield Peverel. Four years later, in 1578, she is documented as a spinster and, unlike in earlier records, no reference is made to a spouse or partner.[ Villagers remained convinced that any unfortunate incident or sickness could be attributed to witchcraft or magic; paupers like Elizabeth, who mainly supported themselves by begging from neighbours, instilled a sense of terror by angrily cursing or bitterly responding if their pleas for sustenance were refused.
On one such occasion during Lent in 1578, Elizabeth approached Alice Poole begging for some old yeast; when Alice refused, Elizabeth headed off to try another villager, loudly cursing against and expressing a desire for Alice to suffer. There was a loud noise followed immediately by an apparition in the form of a white shaggy dog appearing beside Elizabeth. She conversed with the creature, rewarding it with a tiny morsel of bread after it promised to cause pain to Alice’s head. Elizabeth never saw the dog again but she later discovered from another villager that Alice was suffering with severe head pains that started not long after the incident.
An accusation was made against Elizabeth on 26 June 1578 alleging she had bewitched Alice, although at that time her victim was only ill; she subsequently died from the affliction on 1 November. Elizabeth was apprehended but the first hearing of her case did not take place until the Quarter Sessions at Chelmsford on 8 January 1579 where it was endorsed to be tried at the Chelmsford Assizes on 2 April.
At the trial the presiding judges were both Justices of the Queens Bench, John Southcote and Sir Thomas Gawdy. Only one charge was made against her: she caused the death of Richard Poole’s wife, Alice, by means of witchcraft.[38] Elizabeth pleaded her innocence naming two other women from Hatfield Peverel as witches, possibly in the hope it would help her cause, but no action was taken against either of them. She was deemed guilty and the death penalty by hanging was enacted, probably within a couple of days of her sentencing. She named Elizabeth Lord, claiming she bewitched two people to death, and Mother Osborne, who she identified as a witch because she had seen witches marks on her finger and leg.
Three other women faced accusations of witchcraft in the same session; two were hanged and the third was not tried due to a technicality in the drafting of her indictment. Ellen Smith was declared guilty of bewitching a four-year-old child to death and Alice Nokes faced a similar charge; both were hanged. Margery Stanton was released Around two weeks after the trial, on 15 April, another pamphlet was produced, “A Detection of Damnable Driftes“, detailing the the cases of the four women with Elizabeth as the principle character.
Modern interpretations
Writing in the early part of the twentieth-century, Wallace Notestein, an American scholar of British literature and historian, suggests elements of the first trial in 1566 are more likely to appeal to specialists in psychology rather than historians.[22] He further argues that there is the possibility Elizabeth had associations with powerful figures in the area or that she was afforded leniency for initiating the case against her neighbour. The prosecutors may also have discounted much of her confession as it could not be verified by other witnesses
Academic Peter Maxwell-Stuart speculates the lesser punishment may have been applied as the jury did not grasp the inference concerning her familiar, Sathan, made to demonstrating actions forbidden by the Witchcraft Act, that of summoning spirits. Another American historian, Jeffrey Burton Russell, feels the first trial typified many of the witchcraft proceedings in England: “the absurdity of the charges, the emphasis upon the familiar, … …” Scholar and specialist in early modern English witchcraft, James Sharpe likens Elizabeth’s familiar with that of the Devil reported twenty-five years later in the North Berwick case of Agnes Sampson; both offered the women paltry increases in wealth and the tales have roots in folklore but also reflect material provided by interrogators.
Writing from the perspective of a radical feminist, British historian Marianne Hester considers that the wording “waste his goodes”, included as Elizabeth’s words in the pamphlet about her first trial, should be interpreted as causing her lover to become impotent. As the two pamphlets concentrate principally on Elizabeth, despite being almost thirteen years apart and the work of different printers, both may stem from the same source.

A massive debate is playing out over legislation that affects the lives of every American: taxes. But are the changes under consideration actually going to make a difference to your bottom line?
As it happens, most people don’t have a mortgage, most people don’t own stocks and, as a rule, most people are unaffected by carve-out exemptions created in response to lobbying for small classes of individuals. The reality is that, outside of the marginal rates that determine how much of your income goes to taxes and the personal exemption you get just for existing, the standard deduction is probably the single part of the tax code that most affects a majority of Americans.
A major component of the tax plan that Republicans have proposed — aside from lowering the corporate tax rate — is roughly doubling of the standard deduction. The bill will be much easier to pass if the cost of those tax breaks is partially or wholly offset by other changes that increase federal revenue. As the House and Senate work on their versions of a new tax plan, we thought we’d break down who might be affected by some of the proposals that are getting the most attention.
Doubling the standard deduction
Right now you can either itemize deductions — laboriously indicating the amount of money you earned that is exempt from taxation due to a number of carve-outs we’ll get to below — or just take the standard deduction, which is a set amount of money that you can choose to deduct, tax-free, from your overall net income rather than do the math. For example, the standard deduction was great for me personally when I was working in restaurants in college, given that I didn’t have many expenses that I could take as deductions. If the standard deduction had been doubled then, it could even have completely eliminated what I owed in taxes.
The standard deduction is currently $6,350 for single filers and $12,700 for married couples filing jointly. In 2015, 69 percent of households took the standard deduction, so right off the bat, those households would benefit by being able to write off twice as much money. For the 30 percent of households that itemized their deductions, whether they benefit depends on how much they’re able to itemize: If their itemized deductions amount to just a bit more than the current standard deduction, this is probably pretty good for them because they would get a bigger deduction without having to do the work of itemizing; if their itemized deductions are far higher than the current standard deduction, they’ll still need to itemize, so nothing would change for them; if their itemized deductions are relatively close to the proposed new standard deduction, they won’t be able to tell offhand whether they’re better off itemizing or using the standard deduction, so they’re probably going to have to pay their accountant to figure it out anyway.
By that token, this may be bad for some of the people who either directly derive their income from tax preparation and litigation (the country’s 1.4 million accountants, plus tax lawyers) or people who work in fields where existing deductions serve as incentives to use their goods or services (like the 440,000 real estate agents and everyone who works in charity).
Boosting the child tax credit while removing the personal exemption
Of the 150.6 million tax returns filed in 2015, 22.6 million took advantage of the child tax credit, for a total of 27.4 billion untaxed dollars. As it currently stands, you can reduce your income by up to $1,000 for each dependent kid you claim. Your ability to take this discount is mainly defined by your income: The credit begins to be scaled back starting at $110,000 a year for married couples. The current House GOP plan would increase the credit from $1,000 to $1,600, which would be $600 worth of good news per kid for those 22.6 million filers. The plan would also offer a $300 tax credit for each non-child dependent, such as an elderly parent or a child older than 17.
However, the plan also gets rid of the personal and dependent exemptions. That allows each person — the tax filer, their spouse, their dependents — to make $4,050 of their income exempt. Taxpayers took 293 million exemptions in 2015, amounting to just over 1.1 trillion dollars. As a result, the math gets a little harder on families here: gaining $600 and losing the taxed portion of $4,050 per child, essentially. For larger families, the hike on the standard deduction isn’t going to wipe out those losses.
Scrapping the state and local tax deduction
Republicans are calling for the removal of the deduction for state and local taxes, but boy is this one dicey. Right now, you can deduct the amount you pay in state and local taxes from your federal taxable income. This means if you made $50 last year and paid $10 in state and local taxes, you’d only need to pay federal income tax on $40. Different states and localities have wide ranges of income taxes, and some don’t charge any at all. I live in New York City, which is a high-tax city in a high-tax state. My state and local taxes last year were the main reason I didn’t take the standard deduction. This change could really suck for me!
Generally speaking, if you pay enough money in state and local taxes that it makes sense to itemize, this change is not good for your bank account. In 2015, 42.6 million tax returns (28.3 percent of them) included deductions for state and local taxes. Looking at people who made between $50,000 and $100,000 in adjusted gross income that year (middle-income households, roughly speaking), 42 percent deducted state and local taxes in 2015, and the average deduction was $3,195. For some people, doubling the standard deduction can compensate for this elimination, but for taxpayers who stack further write-offs — say, for student loans or mortgage interest — on top of state and local ones, those combined deductions may be worth more than the doubled standard deduction, so they’d feel a pinch.
In addition to people like me who live in high-tax areas, this also hurts people who make enough money that the percentage they fork over even in low-tax states and localities exceeds the standard deduction.
Taxing contributions to 401(k) plans
The government would really rather you did not go broke before you die, so they set up some incentives to get a bunch of free-spending young people to sock money away. The feds let you stash up to $18,000 per year in a 401(k) retirement account without paying taxes on it up front.
When I eventually get to use that money, I’ll have to pay taxes on it, but that’s Old Walter’s problem. If you don’t want to burden your future self, you can go with a Roth IRA, which taxes the money now but lets Old Walter, that coddled jerk, off the tax hook. You probably decided which one you were going to use right after you started a new job, the kind of stressful and nauseating time that is perfect for complex financial decision-making.
One idea for tax reform is to make the people with that first plan use the second one instead, which gives the government its money up front. In 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 62 percent of Americans worked for a private employer that offers a defined contribution plan like a 401(k) or IRA, and a Census Bureau working paper estimated that on the whole, 79 percent of Americans work at places that sponsor a 401(k)-style plan. Still, it may not matter much to tax reformers what type of retirement account people use, since both agencies agree that less than half of Americans contribute to one of these retirement accounts.
Ending the mortgage interest rate deduction
Then there’s the mortgage interest deduction. You may pay enough money in interest on your mortgage that it makes sense for you to take advantage of this tax break by itemizing your deductions rather than just taking the standard one. According to a 2015 Pew Charitable Trusts study, 44 percent of households have mortgage debt, owing a median of $103,000. An Urban Institute study last year found that of the 73.3 million housing units where the owner resided on the premises, 46.4 million units had a mortgage or home equity loan on them.
Both the House and Senate plans cap the amount of mortgage debt you can claim for this deduction, with the House dropping the cap to $500,000 and the Senate leaving it where it currently is, at $1,000,000. This change would only apply to new loans, so if you’re in the market for a pricey home — say, one in a major American city with a high cost of living — this may sting.
On the other hand, most households (56 percent) don’t have mortgage debt, some 26.9 million homes are owned free-and-clear, and many people who do have a mortgage just take the standard deduction anyway. If any of that sounds like you, you’re probably very cool with ending this giveaway to the landed gentry.
Axing the alternative minimum tax
Rule of thumb: If this is the first time you’re hearing about the alternative minimum tax, you’re probably pretty happy with the existence of the alternative minimum tax. It’s a tax that primarily affects the modestly wealthy and people who derive income from unconventional means or people whose financial situation allows them to exploit many deductions.
Basically, rich or well-off people can often take lots of deductions that make them look poorer on paper. They can afford that kind of tax prep, so they can make money from all the things they write off. This means that under the normal system, the well-off can end up paying the same effective tax rate as people who are much less affluent. The AMT seeks to compensate by forcing them to pay a higher share of their income in taxes.
There’s a chance that the individual AMT will not survive if one of the tax reform bills passes — it’s on the chopping block in both proposals. In 2015, 4.43 million of the 150.6 million tax returns filed that year were subject to the AMT, including about 66 percent of returns that reported an adjusted gross income above $250,000. If that sounds like you, you’re probably in favor of getting rid of the AMT.
There is a corporate version of the AMT as well, and that has been in conservative crosshairs for quite some time. According to the IRS, of the 5.9 million corporations that filed a return in 2013, only 10,222 had to pay the corporate AMT.
Removing the estate tax
The estate tax is assessed on the value of large estates when the owner dies. Of the estimated 2.5 million American adults who died in 2013, only 4,699 of them left an estate large enough that it was subject to this tax. In general, we’re talking about the hella wealthy here: Those 4,699 estates were worth, in aggregate, $86.3 billion; the tax that year only applied to estates valued at more than $5.3 million.
Only about 0.2 percent of adult deaths will involve a taxable estate, which is down from a recent high of 2.3 percent of adult deaths in 1999. The vast majority of Americans aren’t going to have to deal with this, and unless you’re looking at collecting an inheritance worth well over that in the near future, you’re probably fine with the estimated $17.1 billion the U.S. raked in from taxes on inheritances in 2015.
But hey, if you really think you’ll be an heir to the top 0.2 percent decedents, by all means call your senator and demand relief.

About Shree Samaleswari Shree Shree Samaleswari, the presiding deity of Sambalpur, is a sturdy spiritual pressure in western phase of Odisha and Chhattisgarh country of India. On the financial institution of the river Mahanadi the mom goddess Samaleswari is worshipped from historic instances as Jagatjanani, Adishakti, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati. The vicinity in which the temple is located has a wealthy cultural heritage. Sambalpur place is popularly regarded as Hirakhanda from historic times. Ptolemy has described the region as Sambalak. Acording to Tavernir, the French traveller, and Edward Gibbon, the English historian, diamonds have been exported to Rome from Sambalpur. Sambalpur is well-known for Sambalpuri songs, dances, woodland and world well-known Sambalpuri handloom fabrics. The rhythmic beats of Sambalpuri drums are heart- pounding and pulse racing and create profound joy. Our Temple Objectives To furnish a region of worship and meditation for the Hindu community To grant amenities for Pujas, havans, marriage ceremonies or different non secular sanskars To prepare for the social gathering of Hindu nonsecular and cultural festivals To grant amenities for the schooling of our teenagers in a number of components of Hindu religion, way of life and languages HISTORY AND LEGENDS Sambalpur was once a small village at that time. Samaleswari the temple used to be constructed some time in the center of the sixteenth century. It used to be rebuilt by way of the seventh impartial king of Sambalpur particularly Chhatra Sai Deo who reigned all through 1657 to 1665 AD. and endowed tremendous landed property for seva and Puja of the deity to a team of sevayats. Some historians say that, the idol of goddess Samaleswari below the simili tree was once worshipped by using tribals in view that 1/3 century A.D. until the temple used to be constructed by using Balaram Dev. Legend Sambalpur was once underneath the rule of Patnagarh kingdom. Patnagarh kingdom used to be surpassed over to the king of Vizianagaram via Prataprudra Dev who used to be defeated in a war. When Vizianagaram kingdom grew to become susceptible and used to be nearing its fall, Narasingh Dev declared Patnagarh as an impartial kingdom with the assist of his notable warrior brother Balaram Dev. Patnagarh Kingdom The impartial kingdom of Patna was once dominated with the aid of Narasingh Dev between 1540 A.D. to 1547 A.D. The capital of the kingodm was once close to the existing Patnagarh city on the financial institution of the river Mayabati. It is stated that in the middle of the night of the darkish fortnight of sravana in the wet season the queen of king Narasingh Dev suffered from excessive labour ache and her lifestyles was once in danger. A common mid-wife, specialist in turning in children, lived in a village on the different facet of the river Mayabati. But the river used to be in full spate with swift current. Balaram Dev swam throughout the flooded river and added the mid-wife from her village on his shoulder. With the care and therapy provided through the mid-wife the queen delivered a son who used to be named Hamir Dev. King Narsingh Dev was once considerably thrilled via the valour of his youthful brother Balaram Dev and granted the massive tract of land in his favour which later grew to become the kingdom Huma Desh and later got here to be broadly regarded as the impartial kingdom of Sambalpur. Some years later, the queen-mother requested her son Narasingh Dev and Balaram Dev to accompany her to a location recognized as Kalapathar on the financial institution of the river Anga. Standing at a vantage factor she confronted toward the kingdom of Patna and pointing out the territory to king Narasingh Dev stated that he would be the unbiased king of Patna state. She once more confronted in the direction of Huma Desh and indicating the great territory, advised her youthful son Balaram Dev that the would be the impartial king thereof. Thus was once born the kingdom Huma Desh later regarded as the kingom of Sambalpur. Balaram Dev dominated Samablpur some time between 1540 A.D. to 1557 A.D. Chowhan Dynasty in Huma Desh King Balaram Dev mounted the Chowhan dynasty in Huma Desh with the capital at Bargarh (near the mordern city of Bargarh) on the left financial institution of the river Jira. For navy motives or for clean governance of the tremendous territory, later on he shifted the capital to Nuagarh, close to the Barapahar vary of mountain and then camped at Chaunrpur on the proper financial institution of Mahanadi (near the current Chaunrpur village) to pick a new location as his capital. Balaram Dev, except being a first-rate warrior was once additionally an eager hunter. It is stated that on a unique day he crossed river Mahanadi and got here to the proper financial institution with his hounds for hunting. While hunting, he observed a miracle. He noticed that his hounds, as an alternative of chasing a small rabbit, have been being hotly chased by means of the rabbit itself. It appeared his hounds had been in mortal worry of the rabbit. The king stood started up and later seen that the rabbit again to the foot of a massive simili tree on the left financial institution of Mahanadi and disappeared. Balaram Dev back to his camp and had a bizarre dream at night. Goddess Samaleswari manifested herself earlier than him and stated that she was once living in gumadarha inner the river and that he must set up her at the foot of the simili tree and build a temple. She blessed the king and vanished. Next morning Balaram Dev made up his idea and thinking about the significance of the left financial institution of Mahanadi on the floor of faith and administration he installed his fort. He established Goddess Samaleswari below the of Kalapahar According to legend Kalapahar, army commander of the nawab of Bengal, in route of one of his visits to Sambalpur camped with a big military at a area close to Durgapali on the financial institution of Mahanadi past the temple Samaleswari. He had a big drum made of cow conceal and had outsized bells (Hulgulas). It is stated that with the beating of the drum and the complicated noise made by way of the bells (Hulgulas), the limbs of deities of the temple routinely disappeared. The intention of Kalapahar used to be to wreck the temple of Samaleswari and different temples in the ancient city of Sambalpur and deities mounted therein. Before Kalapahar should begin the depredation, in a nice evening, a lovely milk-maid dressed up in gold jewelry with a basket of milk, curd and cheese on her head, reached the camp of Kalapahar. She bought the articles to Kalapahar and his army. Next morning it is stated that the whole military inclusive of Kalapahar suffered rom cholera and different allied ailments inflicting whole chaos. Kalapahar deserted invasion of the temple and left the territory with surviviors of his navy leaving most of his armoury, the big drum and the brass bells (Hulgullas). It is believed that the Goddess Samaleswari manifested hereself in the structure of a milk-maid and prompted devastation in the military of Kalapahar. Whether this is a reality or fiction no one can say, however for many years, a large drumand a massive quantity of bells used to be saved at the Mukhashala of the Samaleswari temple. Even a massive variety of tombs believed to be these of the lifeless troopers of Kalapahar are discovered in a mango grove close to Samaleswari College constructing on the financial institution of river Mahanadi. There are many legends in connection with the temple and in truth the devotees sense the presence of such strength in the day to day affairs. It is konwn that one individual specifically Krupasindhu Panigrahi and his spouse had been buried in the basis of the temple at some stage in construction. A giant measurement Bahana Singha Bigraha has been set up in current years in the center of the temple premises which is supposed to be the largest astadhatu Bahana Singha Bigraha in Asia. The Bhumi Puja of the stated location was once carried out by using his holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Goverdhanmath, Puri, specifically Swami Nischalananda Saraswati. Almost all cities and villages of this location have a temple of Maa Samaleswari. In modern-day Odisha no single goddess has sway over a massive territory after Lord Jagganath. Dynasty Trusts Good For Overall economy and Democracy
http://topicsofnote.com/?p=7921&utm_source=SocialAutoPoster&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Tumblr
A properly-made and effectively-managed dynasty rely on is an motor of economic growth and balance, safeguards its beneficiaries from the vagaries and tyrannies of company and governmental managers, and permits the freedom of significant believed and honest conduct that is the essence of a republic .
Dynasty trusts can get a lot of varieties, but a popular attribute is that trust property accumulate and are made use of for the advantage of rely on beneficiaries free of charge of estate taxes and no cost of technology-skipping transfer taxes for several generations, or even perpetually.
In an report published in the New York Periods in July, 2010, Ray D. Madoff, a regulation professor at Boston Higher education, warned that an growing use of so-known as dynasty trusts would produce an American aristocracy. People favor meritocracy above aristocracy, Madoff wrote, and he then proceeded to repeat some of the usual jargon-loaded arguments against trusts with out contemplating their societal benefits.
If Prof. Madoff supposed to imply that the United States nowadays is a meritocracy, then meritocracy have to be a process that rewards its users based on their capability to extract wealth out of the financial system, irrespective of the social, moral and financial charges of their routines. It looks current-working day meritocrats, the experts, are adept at pursuing recognition, superiority and dollars, but drop limited on doing meritorious function. The pay out of general public faculty academics is generally based mostly on the quantity of college or university credits they accumulate, not on educating effectiveness. The dependence of specialist politicians on donations and perquisites is well documented. The subservience of journalism and scholarship to prevailing common considered and commercial criteria is an acknowledged, unfortunate truth. For case in point, legislators, governing administration regulators and non-public-sector workforce included in deep-water oil drilling and the failed investment banking market seemingly attained expert results and had been compensated nicely, but induced fantastic damage. Soon after September 2001, politicians, lecturers, clergy and journalists unsuccessful to review critically the US govt policies and steps about passage of the Patriot Act, the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, the magic formula rendition of kidnapped prisoners, and the war in opposition to Islamic seekers. But, they were being very well compensated for their complacency and complicity. For decades, politicians, scholars, and journalists have shamelessly unsuccessful to debate overtly the plausible thought that US guidance of tyrannical regimes (eg, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia) in the Middle East and US assistance of the Zionist Israeli routine (which, as record shows, expelled native Arabs from Palestine in 1948, wrecked their households, and expropriated their land) might be the real brings about of aggression from the US Instead of talking, writing and performing for the public very good, the pundits and puppets of common knowledge perpetrate myths that the US is beneath assault since of the American way of daily life and Western beliefs of liberty. Accordingly, the steps and omissions of the failed class of company-funded politicians and intellectuals-for-seek the services of undermine the national safety of the US and the individual security and liberty of its citizens. Still, company and governmental paymasters regularly reward the unworthy perform outlined here with big paychecks and thus retain the compliance and conformity of the meritocrats. The dynamic of parasitic, subservient, mercenary actions currently being rewarded with financial results could possibly stand for social Darwinism, but it takes the benefit out of meritocracy.
A proliferation of dynasty trusts would enable an increasing amount of citizens to act morally and responsibly due to the fact they would have an independent supply of materials assist. A person can only guess how a lot of or else straightforward and clever men and women fall short to act according to their conscience, or worse, act contrary to their values, due to the fact they anxiety retaliation from an employer or from a wealthy sponsor. Most men and women right now have to get paid a dwelling, that is, they are not economically impartial, and the extra educated and specialised they turn out to be, the much less position possibilities they have. For instance, a climate researcher performing in a federal government company has pretty constrained options to get the job done in his discipline. If he is fired by his bureaucratic excellent for publishing a politically unwelcome report, then he may possibly soon be gathering purchasing carts at the local supermarket parking ton and unable to aid his spouse and children. The very same is legitimate, to a bigger or much less extent, for engineers, teachers, journalists, and just about absolutely everyone else who is an worker or who is dependent on general public or private great will for his sustenance.
Of study course, lots of excellent, honest get the job done is staying done in modern society, but far too minor is finished that truly difficulties the vested passions of the selfish and gain-driven. 1 could argue that lots of of the folks who honestly challenge self-serving myths and corrupt tactics are supported right or indirectly by impartial sources of prosperity. For example, the independent journalists and authors who be successful in exposing lies and corruption are usually the benefactors of a handful of, enlightened wealthy people today and their charitable foundations. They gain sponsorship by way of their deserves, and arguably as a result are meritocrats. ...But, their economic assistance comes from privately accrued and privately controlled prosperity, not from taxes or well-liked commercial passions. In other words, a dynasty rely on alone can be an independent source of funds for supporting significant societal function that would hardly ever receive funding from the typical establishment.
Take into account how a lot additional lively and truthful our community discourse would be, and how significantly a lot more effective and liable our governments would be, if people today could communicate and act devoid of needing to fear about staying fired from their work and shedding their materials livelihood. Additional dynasty trusts would indicate a lot more folks currently being insulated to at minimum some extent versus the purely mercenary policies of economic Darwinism. Of training course, dynasty trusts are no guarantee of moral, truthful, liable behavior. On the other hand, the recent situations in which company wealth and populist myths influence particular and experienced decision-generating make inefficient and corrupt social actions inevitable.
Numerous of the so-called founding fathers of the American republic inherited prosperity and ended up arguably aristocrats. Aristocracy practically implies rule by the most effective, not rule by the several (oligarchy) or rule by the necessarily mean and corrupted. A proliferation of dynasty trusts could in truth direct to generation of a privileged class, that is, a course of people today who have the privilege of not getting yoked to an economic system that is central centralized, mercenary and subject to conclusion-earning centered on maximizing gain or perpetrating lies and myths. As a useful issue, hard work and ingenuity by yourself are rarely sufficient to guarantee the livelihood of an personal and his relatives. The product existence of workers at all degrees of society is assessed subject matter to the arbitrary will of a supervisor who hence wields an inordinate quantity of energy above the steps of the worker. But, the beneficiary of a dynasty belief is ready to resist the will of a supervisor (or customer or political lobbyist or professional sponsor or spin physician) for the reason that he is not totally economically dependent on him.
Variants of dynasty trusts consist of a existence insurance coverage. For the reason that the insurance policies firm foyer is so influential in countrywide and state legisllatures, daily life coverage proceeds in an irrevocable lifetime coverage dynasty rely on are exempt from earnings and estate taxes. Hence, the mixture of a daily life insurance policies coverage owned by an irrevocable existence coverage dynasty have confidence in can present tax-free progress of assets, payment of insurance plan proceeds to the have confidence in free of estate taxes, and elevated money sovereignty for generations.
The logic of the recent NY Moments report appears to be that it is far better for modern society as a total if custodians of prosperity are compelled to squander it within just two generations, instead than protect it, preserve it and make it improve indefinitely. A widespread criticism of economists is that publicly-held corporations target on quarterly or once-a-year money effects, alternatively than on prolonged-time period enterprise development. Carefully-held and family members businesses, on the other hand, are valued (at the very least in basic principle) for their means to make company choices that boost extensive-term company viability. As a functional subject, having said that, unless a non-public small business is held in a trust, it generally disappears, possibly for the reason that of division among the heirs or because estate and generation-skipping transfer taxes compel its sale. A dynasty have faith in presents a vehicle for accumulating and preserving prosperity in an much larger centrally-managed overall economy controlled by large companies, authorities (nationwide and regional) monopolies and popular myths. Whilst inheritance taxes are not compensated by a dynasty have faith in, a belief-owned enterprise ought to pay back revenue taxes on company and investment profits. There is no absolutely free tax journey for have confidence in-owned enterprises. A trust, on the other hand, gives the very long-term balance and continuity important for developing a small business lifestyle centered on honesty, service, top quality and custom.
Critics of dynasty trusts increase some legit fears. A person is that an specific who does not absolutely require a individual career for his survival will be inclined to insubordination in the workplace. A linked problem is that beneficiaries of dynasty trusts will stop add to society for the reason that they no lengthier require do the job to endure. An extra worry alluded to previously mentioned is that dynasty trusts could produce a privileged class of aristocrats that makes use of an unfair gain to rule the a lot less privileged. The hard details of actuality fully outweigh or negate these worries, which will be addressed in element in a future write-up. Let this posting stop below, however, with the strategy that a culture loaded with subservient, economically beholden sycophants having no economic sovereignty is a better hazard to the republic than the risk of an economically privileged aristocracy. A typical benefit of dynasty trusts for all of culture is the fiscal independence of believe in beneficiaries from the tyranny of sharper centralized financial regulate and manipulated public view, which independence enables liberty of expression and genuine, virtuous actions in a morally corruptible system politic.

4 tax law changes home buyers need to heed
It's been a summer of change for my neighborhood. Several of our neighbors have moved, including our next-door neighbors that I really liked.
My former suburban Austinites are heading off to new jobs, other subdivisions they've discovered or to be closer to families across the state or country.
A few also decided it was time to cash in on the rising property values of our neighborhood. I must admit, that's crossed my mind, but then I think moving and …
Summer is prime moving time regardless of the reasons.
Things tend to slow down at workplaces, giving you more time to take care of the hassles details of relocating. Schools are out, giving families time to get settled in new districts before the kiddos' classes resume.
Whatever the reasons for relocating, there are some tax ramifications. Several of them have been affected by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).
Here's a look at four new tax laws that home buyers need to know.
1. Lower mortgage interest deduction cap: People who buy a new home this year can only deduct mortgage interest they pay on a total of $750,000 in qualifying debt for a first and second home. It’s $375,000 if married filing separately.
Note that this loan lid is for both homes, not a $750,000 mortgage on each.
Before the TCJA changes, which in this instance took effect on Dec. 15, 2017, interest was fully deductible on total mortgages of up to $1 million as long as they were secured by primary or second residences.

While this post if for folks buying a home now, I do want to point out a couple of timing notes for prior homeowners.
The TCJA provides an exception for buyers who had a contract on the home they wanted before the mid-December 2017 cut-off date. As long as they closed on the sale by Jan. 1, 2018, they get to stay under the prior $1 million limit.
Also, if you are in your pre-TCJA home and decide to refinance it, the new tax law consider the new mortgage under the original loan's date. So again, the prior $1 million mortgage limit for tax deduction purposes still applies.
2. Limited property tax deduction: By now, even folks who don't own homes know about the TCJA's limit on the amount of state and local taxes (SALT) you now can claim as an itemized deduction.
That's because the $10,000 SALT deduction limit applies to all salt or more local levies, including real estate and income taxes. Married couple filing jointly face the same limit. Spouses who file separately can deduct $5,000 each.
Before the tax reform changes, there was no limit on any SALT deductions.
You also might find of interest: States still fighting feds over SALT deduction limit
While income taxes are a part of this, in parts of the county where the real estate market is hot, homeowners are finding the real estate tax limit problematic. For many, their property taxes already push the limit. When you add in income taxes in those states that collect them or even sales taxes if that's your choice, it's easy to go over the 10K top.
True, in most cases, homeowners won't need to worry about his cap. The new, much larger standard deduction amounts mean they no longer are itemizing.
Still, if you find filling out a Schedule A works better for you, note the SALT cap, especially if your new home's property taxes are relatively large.
3. Home equity write-offs possibly limited: A lot of folks have used their homes as source of funds by taking out home equity loans or home equity lines of credit (HELOC).
There are books on the wisdom of turning your residence into an ATM and I'm not here to comment or judge (at least not in this post). The new tax law, however, has issued its take on such financial moves.
TCJA says you can't deduct interest on home equity loans or HELOCs if you use the money for any reason other than "to buy, build, or substantially improve your home."
You also might find of interest: Home equity tax deduction loss complicates a popular way to pay for college
That means that the interest on a home-related loan you got to pay for the uninsured portion of the new roof you got after that historic hail storm can be claimed. So can the HELOC money that went toward adding another bathroom so your mother-in-law's move into your home won't be as disruptive.
But if you use the home equity funds to pay for a bucket list Mediterranean cruise or your child's college costs, you won't be able to claim the interest on the home-related loan.
4. Moving expense deduction limited to active-duty military: Under prior tax law, any person who moved for job reasons (and who met the distance and time rules) could claim their relocation costs.
Even better, the old moving deduction didn't require you to itemize. It was one of the so-called above-the-line deductions.
You also might find of interest: No more tax help for non-military moving
Now, however, the TCJA limits moving deductions, which remain an above-the-line claim, to active duty military personnel who are relocating per U.S. armed forces orders.
Apparently little real-world effect: Sorry if I harshed your new home purchase bliss, but it's better to know the tax implications before you get too far into the relocation process.
But realistically speaking, these tax law changes probably won't make much difference to most folks buying their first homes or another one after they've decided, for whatever reasons, to move.
Yes, the tax breaks for assorted home-related costs are/were nice, but taxes are not the reasons people buy a house.
At most, prior tax law might have affected the size of house (and related tax deductions) folks sought. But when people were ready to buy or move, then they bought or moved regardless of the tax code effects.
You also might find of interest: New tax law prompts moves by wealthy from high- to lower-tax states
And the TCJA doesn't look to have changed that, based on the way homes are moving in my neighborhood and according to a recent New York Times article.
"For decades, the mortgage-interest deduction has been alternately hailed as a linchpin of support for homeownership (by the real estate industry) and reviled as a symbol of tax policy gone awry (by economists). What pretty much everyone agreed on, though, was that it was politically untouchable," write NYT reporters Jim Tankersley and Ben Casselman.
But now, well into the second year of the TCJA's new home-related tax deduction restrictions, the pair report that there's no widespread indication that the new Republican-written tax laws have discouraged home buying or adversely affected the prices sellers are seeking.
Sellers still get big tax break: And one major home-related tax break remains for those selling their main homes.
The TCJA did not change the law that says you don't have to pay capital gains taxes on a big part of the profit you made from the sale of your primary residence.
You also might find of interest: Home sale profits usually don't create any tax bills for residential sellers
Up to $250,000 of a single homeowner's sale profit, which is the difference between what you got for the house less the residence's basis (its value plus certain improvements and other costs), is not taxable. The tax-free exclusion amount of $500,000 for married, jointly tax filing, couples who sell their main home.
Of course, you still have to meet he rules about owing and living in the house long enough, which generally are two of the five years before the sale.
Which, as I noted earlier, is a pretty darn good reason to hassle with moving, at least in my community right now.
Life and tax changes: Finally, we're talking taxes here, so things always are in flux.
In fact, these home-related tax law changes technically are temporary.
They're set to expire at the end 2025 unless Congress and whatever administration is in the White House then decide to extend them or make them permanent parts of the tax code.

There are such a significant number of benefits to life over the lake, yet here are some of the best reasons shared by Gregory Finkelson that why USA is perfect for foreigners to start a new life.
Healthcare
Healthcare in US is among the absolute best in the world. All around funded hospitals, all around trained staff and world leading medical development implies you can be confident you will receive the absolute best treatment should you need it. Since 1975 90% of every single medical development can be credited to the US. USA likewise drives the world in dental care and gladly boasts probably the straightest, whitest smiles in the world.
Naturally, this standard of care includes some significant downfalls and numerous potential expats stress over the expense of healthcare in the USA. Employers will, in any case, regularly offer liberal medical and dental care approaches as a component of the salary package that might even cover spouse and dependent youngsters.
Education
In case that you are moving to the USA with kids, guaranteeing they get the best education will be a top priority. Rest guaranteed the standard of schooling is so high in America; it's one of our top 10 reasons to move to the USA given by Gregory Finkelson. In the event that your youngsters are somewhat older, or maybe you are thinking about furthering your very own education, the American school framework is additionally world-renowned. As indicated by QS World University rankings, 50% of the top 20 schools on planet are in USA.
Economic Strength
The economic strength has helped the USA weather the tempests of worldwide depression and financial crises. The US dollar is the World's essential reserve cash, a beyond any doubt indication of stability and respect. A study of all OECD countries uncovered that Americans appreciate the most elevated average household salary in the world.
USA is additionally a surprisingly inexpensive nation. The US was ranked number one for the affordability and security of food in a Global Food Security Index. English expats will unquestionably discover their fuel and food bill substantially decreased. Housing is additionally cheaper than numerous other wealthy nations because of relative abundance and ease of land.
Career Opportunities
USA is a nation that buckles down and invests wholeheartedly in what they do. Earning a living is something Americans invest wholeheartedly in and do well with just 5.5% of the population unemployed. As fickle and changing as they can be everywhere, except in optimism, we chose to put this down as a professional. You won't be dealt with any contrastingly regardless of the color of your skin or any of your preferences. This can't be said for most European urban communities. Additionally, lamentably, it doesn't imply that anybody will treat you pleasantly. Likewise with numerous substantial urban areas in the world, American metropolises are generally home to alienated individuals which are neither rude no plainly considerate. In any case, rude individuals are rude everywhere and there's little you can do about it. When moving to the USA from most parts of the world you may discover the general population refreshing.

More space to call home
A move to USA implies that you ought to commonly have the capacity to get considerably more house and land for your well deserved money (huge urban areas like New York aside) than you can in Europe, for instance. Americans have normally twice as much living space as somebody in Europe.
Convenience
Probably the greatest enterprises have set up shop in America, which implies that Americans approach basically everything they could require. This incorporates incredible shopping openings in sprawling shopping centers and gigantic markets. These are regularly open day in and day out, with conveyance choices accessible. This empowers everyone to get their hands on what they need; at any point they need it.
Cheaper technology
One of the incredible benefits of shopping in the US is access to technology at much lower costs than somewhere else in the world. Cell phones and PC items unquestionably will in general be a lot cheaper than in Europe. This is on the grounds that a great deal of items are delivered in the US and afterward exported to different countries.
