HI COLLEGE STUDENT DIN HERE, specifically studying to be a TLE teacher (course name is VERY long kaya di nalang ako magtalk AHAHAHAH BUT) regarding the food question:

Make sure na you're hitting your four basic food groups, aka carbs, fat, protien and fruit/veg. Easiest and medyo mura na protien sources would be eggs, if kaya ng budget, chicken (breast is malaman).

Tip that I learned from Jo Sebastian (a Filipina dietician on Insta) is to allow yourself to add stuff - i.e. If may sardinas ka which already has fat and protien, you can add in veg like pechay. Or if may instant noodles ka - carbs - add in protien like egg, then veg like kangkong, or even just a fruit in season.

october was a special month for many reasons. it was then fall break happened, halloween came, and most importantly: the big birthday week fell in october.

growing up with three older brothers had always meant a whirlwind of energy and competition. the four of you were extremely close—your relationship was a value your parents had drilled into you from a young age—but the bond you shared with arthur and charles was something else. something unique, cemented by your consecutive birthdays on the 14th, 15th and 16th of october. your close birthdays were a running joke amongst your friends, something you had both loved and hated growing up. but no matter how much you wished that you had your own birthday week, you couldn’t deny that there was something special about sharing it with your brothers.

on october 14th, you wake up to the familiar hum of excitement that always accompanies mid-october in your house. the smell of pancakes wafts from the kitchen, mingling with the autumn air that sneaks through the open window. your mother is already up, her cheerful humming a comforting backdrop to the clatter of pots and pans.

arthur, the youngest of your brothers, turns 24 today. tomorrow, it’s your turn—21 at last. and the day after, charles will celebrate his 27th birthday. the tradition to celebrate together, one big party that perfectly captures the essence of your close-knit family, is still going strong, and arthur and charles have both managed to come home for the week, a rare occasion that fills you with joy and excitement.

you scarcely remember your birthday when you turned six. arthur turned nine, and charles was a proud twelve-year-old.

back then, the house was filled with the smell of your mother's homemade baking. she had worked tirelessly, baking three cakes—one for each of you. she joked that it was like running a small bakery for a week.

when you close your eyes, you can still hear the laughter that echoed through the house as the three of you ran around, arthur boasting about his new remote-controlled car, charles showing off his model f1 car, and you clutching your new doll, a gift from your three brothers.

in the middle of the living room, the three of you gathered around a small table, the cakes in front of you. charles had just taught you and arthur how to blow out the candles all at once, a tradition he said brought good luck. as the sun dipped below the horizon, you all blew out the candles together, your wishes mingling in the evening air.

as teenagers, the tradition shifted slightly but remained just as special. the living room parties turned into backyard barbecues, your friends mingling with theirs. you recall the year you turned sixteen, arthur nineteen, and charles twenty-two. you were all busier then, with school, friends and budding responsibilities, but your birthdays were non-negotiable. it was the first year both your brothers brought a girlfriend to the celebration. you had felt a pang of jealousy, worried the tradition might change, but it didn’t. instead, it only grew. and it only continued to grow in the following years.

now, at 21, you’re in your family home, the air filled with the familiar scent of birthday cakes baking in the oven.

you head downstairs as soon as you wake up, the smell of freshly brewed coffee and delicious breakfast meeting you. your mum greets you with a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek when you meet her in the kitchen.

soon after, you hear the front door open and arthur’s familiar voice fills the room.

“morning! look who i found wandering outside,” he exclaims, nudging your older brother in the ribs as they walk in.

charles walks a step behind arthur, looking more mature but with the same spark in his eyes. he’s 27 now, but in this house, time feels like it has stood still. he hugs you gently, a warmth in his smile that reminds you of your childhood and makes you feel as if he’s never been away.

“it’s good to be home,” he says softly, burrowing his nose in your hair as if to sniff up the essence of you—because for him, you equal home in a way nothing else does. “happy birthday, ma petite.”

your oldest brother, lorenzo, joins you soon after. he’s always been the steady one, the rock that keeps the family grounded. he’s 35 now, an old man in your eyes, working a regular job and supporting your mother as she manages the household, but his support for you never wavers. he watches over you all with a quiet pride that you wouldn’t trade for the world.

as the day progresses, it quickly disappears in a blur of laughter, stories, and nostalgic moments. you spend the morning catching up, the afternoon playing games in the yard like you used to do and the evening gathered around the dinner table. your mother has outdone herself with a feast, and of course, the three special cakes make their annual appearance. this year, they are red velvet for charles, lemon for arthur, and chocolate for you. you savour every bite and smile brightly as your mother makes you pose for a picture; charles in the middle with his two younger siblings leaning against him, while lorenzo stands behind you, arms around the three of you.

later, after the cake has been devoured and the dishes cleared, you find yourselves in the living room, flipping through old photo albums. there are pictures from every birthday, from the chaotic, frosting-smeared faces of your childhood to the more recent, slightly more sophisticated celebrations at racetracks and fancy restaurants.

arthur points to a photo of the three of you from years ago, standing in front of a go-kart track, each holding a trophy. “remember this day? when mum and dad let us all race together for the first time.”

you laugh, recalling how charles had tried to teach you both racing tactics while arthur had insisted on just having fun. surprisingly, arthur did end up winning with his questionable method, but it had been charles who scooped you up and twirled you around in victory when you managed to finish without spinning out.

“i was terrible,” you laugh.

“let’s be honest,” arthur states. “you’re still terrible.”

offended, you lay your face in a mask of fake outrage, turning to hit his side. your fist connects with his shoulder, but he barely flinches, only laughing at you. the rest of your family soon joins, and you can’t help but give in too. you really are terrible.

as the evening winds down, you sit on the porch with charles and arthur, the cool night air wrapping around you. as you stare out at the night sky, resting your head on arthur’s shoulder, you realize that no matter where life takes you, these moments will always bring you back together. the tradition, the love, and the shared birthdays are the threads that weave your family into a tapestry of unbreakable bonds. the stars are bright, and for a moment, everything is perfect.

perfect, because some things never change, and for that, you are eternally grateful.

The tag from your denim jacket had been irritating you since the second you put it on but you chose to forget about it, often adjusting it with your nails or a little shimmy of your shoulders.

Holding the mic from Sky Sports F1 wasn’t all too odd for you, the broadcast team only handing it to you when talking about Lewis and his achievements. Your support for the Stevenage driver was strong, often being as labelled as biased but you couldn’t care less. The support was mutual between the two of you, usually lingering on the line of friendship but doubt and time was always against you.

Your sunglasses sat on your braided head with a bored expression on your face, just wanting to get this segment over with so that you could go back to your individual blogging and interviews. Standing patiently in front of the cameras while other reporters ran around unorganised, you played with your beaded ‘44’ bracelet.

“My goodness, Y/n! I have no clue how you are so calm, this is always so hard!” One of them exclaimed, laughing in the process. “Not to mention the outfit! You look like you could go to a party!” Another laughed, her smile faltering when your eyes snapped to her, expression never changing.

After a while, the segment began and off the reporters went on a scripted tangent about other teams before getting to the main topic; Lewis. “Now, onto a different subject, Lewis Hamilton’s performance in that car has been nothing short of a…disaster if I could say.” Jimmy said, deciding to look at you as he spoke. Almost as if he was challenging you.

“For a specific race weekend or overall? His teammate, George is doing significantly better. I don’t know what’s wrong with him, it’s like he doesn’t know how to drive.” Jennifer spoke, poorly making an attempt of a joke.

“I’m not too sure why you’re speaking as if he is a rookie. You lot can see that Mercedes hasn’t been doing well as a collective yet you’re targeting one driver who has brought then 8 constructer titles rather than the other who has one win.” Lifting your mic, you spoke with a clear voice, never stuttering.

Frank shook his head and tried to chuckle. “Look Y/n. We understand he’s your boyfriend or whatever but we need to be factual here. What Ferrari has done is a mistake by signing him. I mean, there needs to be more space for others and he’s taking up space.”

“And Alonso’s dusty ass doesn’t need to leave? Using my support for Lewis to try and justify your dislike for him is unprofessional. I have no clue how you have the gumption to say all this.” You responded, still not moving from your spot.

The other 4 reporters stared at you in shock along with other people stopping in the paddock, surrounding the space just in front of the official f1 hospitality suite.

“There’s no need to use aggressive language, Y/n.” Jennifer lifted her hand to place on your shoulder but you moved away in time. “Aggressive for who?” You challenged, tilting your head.

It had gotten quite. “The viewers. It’s not a lie, Lewis is just not good anymore. He needs to make space.” One of them spoke up but you couldn’t be bothered to listen to anyone else other than Frank, your eyes trained on him.

“What? We need to speak with the producers, having an independent journalist was a mistake.” Frank smirked.

“You can take your opinion and shove it up your ass. Thanks for having me, Sky Sports F1.” You turned to the camera to blow a kiss then you gave the mic you were holding to whoever would catch it.

Walking away from the set, you knew what you did was undeniably unprofessional but those people had always had a vendetta against Lewis and any reporter/journalist who support him. Breathing out, you sashayed your way through the paddock with people staring as your braids glided in the slight breeze.

The buzz of your phone shook you out of your racing mind, a little gasp escaping your mouth as you read the notification from instagram.

You first looked around the paddock after reading that message but you figured that he watched it live just like everyone else did. Your anger for that segment had clouded your thoughts so much, you forgot about the interview you were supposed to have with the champion.

Rushing to the large luxurious paddock club, you received all types of looks from those who either clearly watched the broadcast live or they’re looking at your outfit, although the latter was made up in your mind.

Luckily, he hadn’t arrived to the designated room you booked to have the interview with him but as soon as you got your phone out to record and your notes, the screams and excitement were heard from outside the door and a smile couldn’t help but sneak on your face.

You have only interviewed him three times in your entire career but every time you did so, he never wanted it to end, always trying to make it longer by asking his own questions to you or just sharing a laugh.

With security opening the door for him, he entered the room and spotted you with a smile on his face. He entered alone in the mercedes shirt already on. No words needed to spoken by either of you, Lewis opening his arms for a hug to greet you. Once in his embrace, you thought it’d be quick but to your surprise, it lasted a few moments longer.

“Hi Y/n.” Lewis spoke, a hand still on your shoulder. You took a quick breath and immediately relaxed on the spot. “Hey Lewis.”

“Your response to Sky was insane but I liked it.” He chuckled, sitting across from you with his legs open and a ring clad hand sat comfortably on his lap.

You didn’t want to show him how the sight affected you especially when your emotions are sky high so you remained calm on the outside. “It’s just…I’m pretty sure I lost my job just now because of how I reacted.” You sighed out, flicking a few braids back.

“Some of them had said worse things so you’re okay.” Lewis responded, his tone wasn’t all too sure but he just wanted to lift your mood. “Yeah but I’m black. They used micro aggressions too.” You couldn’t help but chuckle at everything once recalling back to that moment.

“I heard. I’ll have a word with Sky.” He reassured you. “Oooh okay, Sir.” You joked, masking how the reassurance made your stomach flutter. You’d like to think he was openly flirting with you but you quickly put that thought at the back of your mind.

“I just don’t want those people to forget who you are, you know? I’m sure you hear this all the time. You know what you’re doing and you’re the best at it. I wanna remind the people who the goat is.” You rambled a bit, noticing his smile growing as he listened to you.

“You’re too kind, really. I know what I am, it’s just a little tough right now.” He shrugged as he fully leaned back into his seat. “If you need me to fight anybody in your team, let me know.” You winked, flashing a comical smile that made Lewis laugh.

Giving you a once over, Lewis leaned forward and rested his tatted arms on his knees. “You look good today. You always do but today…phenomenal.” He spoke, his voice noticeably relaxed. “Don’t make me blush, Sir.” You smiled, failing terribly at hiding your feeling.

“That nickname, Y/n,” He chuckled. “Is that door locked?” He asked. All you had to do was nod at the man and Lewis smirked, licking his lips in the process.

“C’mere.”

most of the drivers' reactions to the whole Horner situation is so disappointing tbh. what do you mean someone in the paddock, an employee gets harassed by one of the top figures in the sport and your reaction is either "it has nothing to do with me", or "no comment", "i just like cars and i want to drive", "it's noise and distraction", "i'm here to race", and "it's a good thing for the media", "it doesn't affect me", "i don't really have an interest".

why is it so hard to care about something other than your racing career? you gotta have some morals, dude. not caring about women's safety in your oh so beloved sport is some fucked up behaviour. in situations like this it really shows how fucking privileged they are and it's honestly repulsive.

this is precisely why Lewis is always the one being asked about any non-sport related topic. because he's the only one who cares and gives honest and nuanced answers. genuinely terrified of what this sport will become when he retires, cause no one will speak out on anything.

and then people wonder why we say that f1 is not a safe place for women and that misogyny is still very much a thing in the sport? men don't care, including the president of the fia and f1, the other team principals and most of the drivers as well. when the faces of the sport clearly don't give a shit about women, what kind of hope is there?

they can talk about equality and progressive values and promoting women in motorsports, when this is the reality of how they actually treat the women working in the sport. imagine how that poor woman is feeling, seeing how much the drivers care about what she's going through. utterly disrespectful, with no compassion or empathy.

Back in the 90s a group of scientists supported by half the world came up with a new experimental drug. 

“Help us elevate and enhance the human existence!” the taglines touted, followed by a list of places where you can “participate in the study” and an even bigger package of consent forms, non-disclosure agreements and other documents that meant to free the government of any responsibility if anything went wrong. 

“Enhancement and improvement of human life” was a very ambiguous and stupid way of saying we will give you superpowers. 

Just in the following year after the study started, around 3% of the world's population had superpowers – super speed, super strength, super agility and other human qualities you can add “super” to. 

The serum was mostly common in third world countries, but you could still find a facility or two in Europe that can provide you with an injection. 

That's what Max’s father did. Tracked a supplier, made an appointment and signed a ton of papers so his son, who hasn't even learned how to walk yet, could get a shot that gave him superpowers. 

Jos hoped for super strength or increased stamina, already making plans about how the powers are going to help his son move to Formula 1, and later, win the World Championship. But following the trajectory of Max’s life, he disappointed his father, and instead of developing super speed or agility, Max had telepathy. A power entirely useless, except for hearing Max’s father yell at him without Jos having to actually open his mouth. 

When the year 2000 came, the study was quickly closed and swept under the rug after a big violent attack happened involving superhumans who thought they were messengers of God, and not a result of a fucked up experiment set up by their government. 

Any remaining drug supplies were destroyed, but the government couldn’t do anything with the people that already had it, so a part of the population was left having powers, passing their superpower genes to their children. It's not uncommon, maybe 1 in every 30 people has some kind of power, but if people learn you have superpowers, they treat you like a circus monkey, asking you to show them your tricks. 

That's why Max prefers to keep quiet about his telepathy – it's not a cool power like flight or invisibility, and people tend to freak out when they learn that Max can read their thoughts, covering their ears (why, Max doesn't know. It's not like the thoughts come out of the ears?) and running far away – also pointless, considering Max can't read someone's mind if they are farther than a couple meters away from him (Max had the best time of his life with the social distancing during the pandemic, even with how short it was). 

Max is not the only superhuman on the paddock of course – people with super strength are always in demand, and some second or even third generation superhumans just find their way into F1, but, as far as Max is aware, he is the only driver with powers. 

Probably not all the parents are willing to inject their child with highly experimental and dangerous drug just so they can drive cars in a circle.

The topic of superpowers is very popular and their PR teams always have one or two games involving guessing or rating powers, so when Daniel gets a card with “which superpower would you want” printed on it during the recording of one of their "On the couch” videos, Max is not surprised. 

Daniel laughs and knocks the edge of the card against his chin while he thinks. “I don't know,” he says, while a list of powers runs through his head, looping on invisibility. 

“Probably not invisibility. How can I deprive the world of this beautiful face?” Daniel jokes, framing his face with his palms. “Also, I had a friend in school who was invisible, and it was always weird seeing just a set of clothes walking around. All of my hot bod work outs would go to waste!”

Max laughs, listening to Daniel's voice in his head think of more superpowers. Flight, shapeshifting, laser vision, telepathy. 

Max jerks, the word echoing in his mind.

“Maybe telepathy? So I can always know if someone has a crush on me,” Daniel laughs. Max looks down to his lap. He has a card with a question they already answered, the edges of laminated paper dig into his palms.

“Or to learn all the secret secrets of all the teams. Help with the strategy,” Daniel continues, waving his hand around, elaborate scenarios already unraveling in his head. 

“I think it's boring,” Max says, looking back at Daniel. “Reading thoughts is useless and what if people around you hate you? You would hear all of their thoughts. It's a very stupid power,” he admits, concentrating on his own voice echoing in Daniel’s head.

“Okay, then what power would you have, Maxy?” Daniel asks. His mind floods with super speed and strength and probably all the powers Max’s father hoped he would actually get. 

“I would not want one. I would want to be a normal person,” Max replies, looking down on his hands. “It's easier with no powers.” 

Awh rings in Max’s mind as Daniel coos at him. 

“Well,” Daniel takes a dramatic breath, “It's time for me to reveal my secret,” he says with a forlorn expression, pressing his palm to his chest. 

“I am– I have– I can read minds, yeah. Max’s hatred for telepathy made me come out, reveal my powers,” Daniel stumbles. “I will prove that telepathy is cool to you, Maximus,” he announces, putting his fist up. 

Max chuckles. “Okay.” 

“Good,” Daniel nods. “Now, think of a number, any number. Actually, think of a number from 1 to 10.”

Daniel’s mind floods with numbers, like he is the one meant to think of one. 

“Okay, you have your number?” Daniel asks. 

Max nods, even though he didn't think of one. 

“Cool,” Daniel says and proceeds to make a face like he's constipated. He brings his pointer finger to his temple and stretches out his other hand to touch Max���s forehead. 

Max laughs at his strained expression; tries to distract himself from the feeling of Daniel’s fingers on his skin by listening to the numbers going through Daniel’s mind. 

It keeps looping on three, so it catches Max off guard when Daniel announces, “Sixty nine! Maxy, I said 1 to 10!” He huffs in mock disappointment.

Max giggles, trying not to miss Daniel’s fingers when he brings his hand back. “Well, it's of course a nice number,” he grins. Daniel smiles back at him.

“But you are not correct, Daniel,” Max continues, digging his fingers into the edges of the card in his hands. “My number was actually three.”

Daniel groans, “Ah! I knew it was!” he cackles, pointing a finger at Max.

“I know,” Max says quietly. But Daniel doesn't hear him, already reaching for the next card.

“Assign a power to each other,” he reads from the piece of paper. “Okay, a lot of powers questions today, guys,” he says to the room and shakes his head. 

“We of course just discussed this,” Max says, looking at the camera. “I am a normal person and Daniel can read minds.”

It would probably be better this way, if Daniel had telepathy instead – he would know all the stuff that Max usually can’t say, wouldn't have to make Max admit to it. 

Sometimes Max wishes that his powers worked in reverse, so that people around him could hear his own thoughts. Max is bad with words, they don’t always come out the way he wants them to, so it would be better if people around him just knew. 

What’s the time, I’m hungry, rushes through Daniel’s head. Max looks down at the basket half full of the cards.

“We will do one more question,” Max announces to the media team and picks up the card. 

It happens rarely, but sometimes his telepathy becomes very useful.

I don’t often message authors but I just want to say I finished lucky girl syndrome and wanted to let you know I absolutely adore it. It’s incredible.

Your characterisation of Y/N is perfect and her dynamics with others is brilliant. She’s not some Mary-Sue that you see so frequently where everyone likes her and she’s besties with everyone. She’s not afraid to have people dislike her and she’s not someone who’s quiet and shy and non aggressive but still manages to win anyways she’s still aggressive which you need to be a race winner in F1.

I also love the way that you talk about the misogyny and sexism because in so many fics, people just act like it wouldn’t be present in the paddock and it’s a fan only thing. And the addition of having drivers who are sexist is also amazing because as much as PR may hide it, there’s probably drivers who do share these views.

this is so sweet. i appreciate this so much. i really wanted to tackle those topics in a respectful way and i am very glad that people understood my meaning. misogyny seeps into every aspect of society and in a male dominated sport such as f1, it wouldn’t be realistic if i didn’t at least acknowledge them. in my other series, maneater and the nepo sister!universe, i also talk about the driver and their fight with racism and/or sexism.

i understand why other writers want to let their readers have a escape from bigotry via their works and want it to be fun, and i find that to be completely valid. this fic was originally gonna be an exploration into that and i decided to change it up because i was like who would read that lol.

The F1 feeder series masterpost

In recent events, like Oliver Bearman's F1 debut in Jeddah, him, Jack Doohan and Kimi Antonelli joining the grid as rookies in ‘25, Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto also being discussed to get a seat and the reveal that Franco Colapinto would replace Logan Sargeant at Williams, feeder series’ have gotten more and more attention. A lot of people have no starting point to get into feeder series’ though, and struggle to understand the influence they take on F1, and that's what this post is for. This post includes everything you need to know about feeder series, and if you’re interested, you’ll find discussions and thoughts about common topics between fans and clarification on common misconceptions and anything else one might need on this blog.

1. What is a feeder series

Feeder series are, in this case for Formula 1, racing series that are supposed to find new talents and develop them, thus the name; feeding them to F1, metaphorically. But in more detail, there are quite a few different feeder series that have developed over the years. They can be compared to stages;

A young driver will usually start their single seater in a series on F4 level, those are the smallest and slowest cars with only 160bhp. There is no worldwide championship, as the drivers are usually very young here and it’s the smallest and ‘cheapest’ of the open wheel series. There are different regional championships in a lot of places, as an example the British F4 or the Italian F4. Interesting to note is though, that these are rather new and there are big differences in the levels, the italian F4 is very popular and bigger compared to others. F4 and most lower feeder series drive by slightly different race weekend timetables to F1 and drive on vastly different circuits due to the regional aspect.

Although it's officially not counted as a feeder series, I would like to add F1 academy, which is a female only championship that follows the F1 calendar. Female drivers participate in that series to gain more attention from sponsors to be able to afford higher categories. Although their cars drive on F4 level, it's international and thus gains a lot more traction than other racing series of that car level.

If a driver is good enough and has the funds, they will progress to the so-called formula regional. Those are, as the name suggests, also regional. Different from F4 though, they are usually on a whole continent. The cars are faster and bigger and the whole event is more expensive. Most well known is probably the ‘Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine’ or short ‘FRECA’. Once again european bias strikes because even non europeans often come to europe to drive here because doing good in FRECA still seems to be better than to do good in another regional series, this is a problem for another post though.

Once again, if a driver is good enough and has enough funds, they can proceed to the next stage. Unlike in F1, they do not get paid to drive for a team but instead have to pay to get a seat, a rather expensive ordeal that can usually only be funded by good sponsors, rich connections or drivers academies that pay up to 100% of the cost. If a driver manages to afford a seat, they can participate in F3. Different from the previous categories, there are only two F3 series, although one is the FIA F3 world cup which is only one event, so most drivers focus on the FIA F3 championship which is not just international, but also follows the F1 calendar.

“Following the F1 calendar” means that they drive on the same circuits and weekends as F1, this helps them not only gain fans but also experience because an F3 race weekend is a lot more similar to F1 than an F4 race weekend and that is not just for the cars. F3 drives a lot less rounds though and almost exclusively in europe.

Last but certainly not least, when a driver graduates from F3 their next step is F2. The FIA F2 championship is arguably the most well known feeder series, almost every F1 driver that has debuted after 2017 has competed in this series, with many having won the championship. The cars are the closest to the F1 cars but it’s also the feeder series that requires most funds, with a seat for a season being estimated to cost up to $3 million. 

With all of this in mind, it needs to be added that all feeder series are spec series, so all the drivers in one championship have the same cars to ensure that the championship is reliant on racing talent, rather than the car. Still, they can change small things on set-ups and some feeder series teams are better than others, some series like F2 suffer under the so called Mecachrome, an engine that is super unreliable, so like any other racing series, feeder series have their problems.

Another important addition for feeder series is, that while there are junior academies the championships are not between the F1 teams that you are used to. I’ll explain junior academies later, but if you are watching feeder series it's important to be aware that there are other teams and rules slightly vary depending on the series. In F3, as an example, a team has three cars, but all of these are dependent on the series and you can easily find them out yourself.

For the race weekends it also slightly varies depending on the series; F2 and F3 have one free practice on friday, then qualifying, saturdays there are the sprint races with reverse grid and sunday the feature race. In the reverse grid the top half of the grid gets turned around after qualifying, the pole sitter for Sunday starts on ten, the driver who qualified for ten starts on one and so on. FRECA on the other hand has two full races with two full qualifyings. As mentioned, while I'd love to share everything, feeder series are (luckily) so broad that it's rather impossible. I’ll most likely post some pre-season guides for F2, F3, FRECA,... for the 2025 season though.

This is only a rough overview to show off how feeder series work. All of these series have official websites, social media sites and are easier to access than F1 so they are a lot more ‘fan friendly’. I will go more into detail on how and why these series have evolved the way they did later on, but I need to admit for myself, that I am a huge fan of feeder series because they are, as mentioned before, not only cheaper to attend but also really great to watch for fans and I hope I can help some people find interest in feeder series with this post.

2. How to get into feeder series

You may have seen the uproar around F2 drivers that could make their way into F1 next year, have read the previous text or decided for yourself, you’d like to watch even more racing, then this is the point where you find all the resources on how to!

I need to preface this by saying, feeder series grids are a lot less permanent than F1. Usually a driver only spends one or two seasons in a single series because they try to make their way up the ladder to F1 but also because it's a waste of money to pay for a seat when they could be in a higher category. Furthermore, sometimes seats just change in the season, with Franco Colapinto graduating from F2 mid season, he has triggered a domino effect; someone had to replace him in F2, that driver had to be replaced in F3,... For this reason, I cannot post a grid on any of the series here, for that you will have to visit the sites of the feeder series you are interested in.

What is pretty permanent though, are the teams. As mentioned, the teams are different from F1. Big feeder series teams like Prema racing, MP motorsports, ART grand prix, Rodin Motorsport, ect are present in most categories. By following them on social media you can easily find out who their drivers are and get to know them. I would also recommend following feederseriesnet on social media, it's the most trustworthy news site that covers everything related to the feeder series. Sadly, many feeder series are only covered in comparison to F1 by typical F1 news which is why those are more often than not untrustworthy.

If you question now how people have favorite drivers, then I have really good news for you; in feeder series everything is a bit more fun and to gain sponsors and fans, both teams and drivers themselves are a lot more active on social media than you’d be used to by F1 drivers. I've mentioned it before; feeder series are amazing for fans. There are good chances that you can even watch a race in person because feeder series are actually global and also super cheap, so just look at the F4 or regional championship closest to you.

In relation to this, I especially want to point out Prema. It's not only the most successful feeder series team but also by far the most popular one. The reason why Prema is so popular is on one side obviously the fact that they have won almost every single title in the past years and almost half the current F1 grid were in that team in their junior career, but also their social media presence. The Prema drivers are always by far the most well known and popular drivers in any series because Prema has been posting successful youtube videos for years now and I’ve found it the best way to get to know the drivers. As mentioned, many drivers were at Prema at some point, in feeder series drivers switch teams a lot more often so you’ll get to know about many drivers if you just look back a bit, even if certain teams post less on social media, their drivers will most likely appear in other videos.

If you want to watch the feeder series race, it depends a bit. Most regional championships you can watch free on youtube, but i’d recommend searching it up before you want to watch it. Some also live stream via official websites, really, it depends. F3, F2 and F1Academy follow the F1 calendar. Although they are not at every race, when they are, they just run via skysports, F1TV or wherever else you are watching F1.

In the end it's important to acknowledge, though, that feeder series and F1 are quite different. Feeder series are a lot more race based and things switch faster. For me, it's part of the fun to see more different types of drivers race, there is always something happening, drivers are younger and thus more bold, hoping to impress F1 teams. If you think F1 silly season is stressful, F2 is a lot worse since every single driver has to actually fear for their seat. One downside though is the fact that feeder series, beside Prema, lack a bit of fandom, there are significantly less fans for feeder series and there is a lot less content, less memes but the fans in general are in my experience a lot nicer.

3. The history of feeder series

Especially if you are a big fan of F1, trying to look at old feeder series races or are interested in the history of racing in general, acknowledging the history of feeder series is important to understand them. Feeder series have greatly evolved in roughly the past two decades; the “FIA Global Pathway from Karting to Formula One” as it has been established by the FIA only exists in the way it does now since 2014. 

Many of the current feeder series have gone through a whole lot of renamings, rule changings and changes in approach; there used to be F3 and GP3 at the same time, with GP3 being somewhat comparable to F3, but the whole problem was that there were many different open wheel racing series without a linear approach to F1. If you look at current F1 drivers' junior careers, you’ll notice how different they look to each other because unlike the way I introduced previously, there was no one pathway. The FIA has established a proper pathway now though, partially to help drivers but also because it's simply needed. If you look at certain drivers like Fernando Alonso, who started his Formula 1 career roughly 25 years ago, you’ll notice that he barely had any previous open wheel racing experience. The reason for that was not only that Alonso is a great driver with potential, but also the fact that F1 cars were simply a lot easier and it was more approachable for young drivers.

Since F1 cars have become more complex, driving has become faster and the F1 championship has become a lot more serious, the evolution of the feeder series have followed the evolution of F1. Racing has changed a lot, from the eighties where you pretty much sat in a car and just raced if you had the money to now, where teenagers train from early childhood on in karts to hopefully join F1 one day, F1 has become a huge sport. 

The biggest changes in recent years, following the FIA pathway program in 2014, are the following; 

In 2014, the Formula 4 series was invented, to bridge the jump from karts to F3 which has become a lot faster in recent years. In 2018, Formula regional was invented for the same reason as F4; to bridge the gap between existing series. Also in 2018, GP3 and the FIA Formula three European championship pretty much merged to what we now know as F3. the year prior, in 2017, GP2 rebranded to F2 leading to the feeder series being uniformed to all go by the formula title. 

I am quite sure we will still see some slight changes in the following years, especially since feeder series are gaining more and more traction as you can see here. All over the world there are also new regional championships starting out, which leads me to one of the most important parts of this; the globalification of feeder series.

Just like F1, feeder series are very european based. Many drivers had to move to europe in order to move up in the motorsport world, but with regional championships like the Formula regional middle east championship gaining traction, i wouldn't be surprised if feeder series become even more internationally, because while they are already a thing all over the world, you can clearly see the difference in F4; the italian F4 is always in focus and drivers from all over the world participate in them, while other F4s are focused more on their use; developing local talents.

4. Driver academies

Now as mentioned before, the F1 teams are not in feeder series, but there are so called ‘driver academies’ but what exactly are those and how do they work?

Well, driver academies are a sort of support system for junior drivers. F1 teams will take good young drivers into their teams. By that, they try to ensure that good drivers get the fundings to become a good future F1 driver. In return, they have contracts with the drivers and (usually) first privilege when it comes to signing them to drive for them in F1. 

But there are more advantages for the young drivers; besides the monetary advantages, being a member of a driver's academie helps them greatly. Depending on the academy they are in, they get help when it comes to personal trainers, contracts and sponsors and just in general, being a member of a driver academy makes it a lot more likely that a driver will actually join F1. 

But just like in racing itself, the different teams have not only different approaches but also different levels of success. While some junior academies like Ferrari can boast of being known to be incredibly loyal to their junior drivers, helping them get sponsors and become popular and having many of them graduate to F1, there are other junior academies who aren't as successful. Best example for a less successful team is Alpine, while they have many drivers, not many of them graduated to F1, even less with them. Still, in my opinion it's not necessarily a bad thing; a team like Alpine that pays for many young drivers is incredibly important and even better, they have a whole category for female racers.

In the next few days I'll post a ranking detailing a bit closer what exactly the driver academies are doing, so stay tuned!

5. Feeder series and F1

The way that feeder series have influenced F1 in recent years should have become a bit more obvious by now. With the establishment of a proper pathway for feeder series the drivers are a lot more likely to know each other and it's a lot easier to follow. F1 has become this huge sport in which everyone is a proper athlete, with feeder series becoming respected, so do their graduates.

Every rookie since 2019 had to go through at least one of the feeder series and although there will still be changes, especially with driver academies now going as early as F4 to recruit drivers, feeder series become more and more important to F1. 

Even if some people aren't as interested in feeder series, many have learned this year that you can't enjoy F1 without keeping the feeder series in mind.

Still, it's a personal wish, but i hope that in the near future (and hopefully by this) there will be more feeder series fans. Although obviously the end goal is F1, not everything in the feeder series has to be about F1. Furthermore, F1 is very different to the feeder series, which is a good thing. 

In the end, this whole post is a lot less detailed than i would have liked, but as mentioned multiple times, i will post even more specific texts in the future, but feeder series are such a broad topic that it would be an impossible task to explain every single feeder series because there are so many, and quite frankly, it would also be a bit boring.
