Not only have we established that they're "not good with words", but Usopp just urges Luffy - who is, for the first time in a long time, actually unsure about himself and everything he's doing - to "speak from the gut". Something Luffy was always good at, but is self-conscious about, now that Nami told him he made the "wrong" choice. Usopp's gut is definitely my friend.

maybe it’s just the aromantic in me but goddd deathbed love confessions are fucking horrifying right? because your choices are A) accept it falsely because they’re going to die or B) don’t accept it and they’re still going to die but now it’s your fault they’re dying inconsolable. because you didn’t suck it up and pretend you could return their feelings.

it’s an trap! and it’s not like it’s intentionally manipulative (except for when it is. delicious when it is. character who puts themselves in mortal danger just to ensure they get returned feelings from someone who otherwise wouldn’t my beloved. so fucked up.) because they’re just getting all of their secrets off their chest before it’s too late.

and a lot of the time in media this gets glossed over by the threat of death magically revealing that the other character did love them all along and oh isn’t it a tragedy they will never be together now? but i can’t stop thinking about. what if you don’t. what if you don’t and never will and they’re bleeding in your arms, running out of time, waiting for you to say “I love you”. And you aren’t really allowed to say no. are you.
