The Knightley Family Album: Volume XII
Veteran scientist Mary has recently become a bit of a mentor to the new junior researcher in her department, Georgiana.
Meanwhile, Bertram and fiancée Beth have struck out on their own...
renting a spacious apartment in nearby Sanditon.
There are far more interesting things to do than make make lunch!
Beth’s stats:
~ Capricorn 8 / 4 / 9 / 7 / 8
~ Kind / Virtuoso / Supernatural Fan / Born Performer / Natural Cook
~ OTH: Music & Dance
~ Favourite Colour(s): Pink / Blue

~ Turn-ons / -off: +Cultured / +Well-liked / -Infamous

Sadly, there’s another goodbye to be said too, to everyone’s favourite kitty, Kevin.
It’s OK, Kevin, I have it on very good authority that Grim likes cats!
As she’s got older, Mary has become intrigued by the afterlife, and takes it upon herself to install Kevin in his final resting place, hoping to catch sight of a ghost. (Do I have to do something special to get ghosts in my cemeteries? They never show up.)
Sadly for Mary, the dead were not feeling restless tonight, but there was a bonus witch, so her nocturnal vigil wasn’t a complete disappointment.
And then it’s back home, for some quality time with George.
While recently-graduated daughter Eliza takes a well-earned soak in the bath, after a hard day wrangling algae in her new job.

Last Movie
Jeez, it's been a long time since I watched a movie. Probably Emma (1996). I watched it with my friends a few months ago, since they hadn't seen that version. Jeremy Northam is my favourite version of Knightley. Also loved hearing my friends' reactions to the wild Ewan McGregor appearance.
Currently Reading
Nothing at the moment. Last thing I read was The Road to Neverwinter, which is the Honor Among Thieves prequel book that goes into more detail about Edgin's backstory, his relationship with Kira and Holga, and how they met Forge and Simon. It's pretty good. I liked it even more than Doric's prequel book.
Currently Watching
Nothing, really, save for the usual Critical Role every week. I'm super looking forward to Castlevania: Nocturne dropping on September 28th, though.
Last Searched for Art/Writing Purpose
Did some fact checking on the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (my beloved) about Ordinators for an ESO fic I'm working on.

@littlelonewolfgirl
{out of breath} Well, it would depend on whether you are just looking for an entertaining watch in a movie, or you want to see his best performances as far as actual acting... because those are definitely not the same thing, heh. Some of his best performances are in movies that I would not call entertaining because of their subject matter. But anyway, here we go with some recommendations.
Godzilla (2014)
This is really great movie in my opinion. It takes an overdone and somewhat silly premise and puts a new twist on it that actually works. It’s exciting, it’s touching, it’s got really interesting creatures in it... the full package, heh. But besides that, ATJ is really good in it. He does an American accent and honestly, I never hear a mistake. That’s always impressive to me, haha. But he’s also very good as Ford, someone who is a soldier and has this great sense of duty and who is very brave and unafraid to go charging into danger, but who also has a family and worries about them too. So he brings a lot of emotion to what would otherwise be a simple, one-dimensional character. His character in this is also very likable, if that matters. Some of the same aspects people might like about Pietro (being brave, protecting children, being family-oriented) are seen in Ford as well. So if you’re looking for a decent acting performance, a character of his you can really root for, and a fun, entertaining movie, Godzilla is for you. I would rate this one as slightly more toward the entertainment aspect than a movie I would watch just for his acting alone, but yeah, I definitely recommend it. An added bonus is that Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff, is also in this movie in a supporting role as Ford’s wife, Elle.
Anna Karenina (2012)
If you are a theater fan, you love period pieces, or you are an artistic sort, you will love this movie. It is a very stylized version of the story based on the classic novel, done as a movie but as if the entire movie is done on theater stages and sets. It’s hard to describe, but it’s almost like watching a play the way the movie is shot and structured. Some people really didn’t like that and that’s part of the reason why it didn’t do that well with critics and reviews, but I personally found it to be an interesting way to do it and it was visually very beautiful. ATJ plays Alexei Vronsky, a count who becomes infatuated with and begins an affair with Keira Knightley’s Anna, married to Jude Law’s Karenin. The two really play wonderfully off of each other and that’s what makes the story work, because it is a very character-centric and emotionally driven story. It’s not a very happy story, though, so be warned. The ending especially is rather tragic. But ATJ is really on his game in this movie. He has his natural accent here, which is nice to hear. He emotes so much in a number of scenes and there were at least two or three points when he made me tear up. A very different character from Pietro or Ford, but still basically a good guy. You may not always agree with his choices in the film or like everything about him, but I don’t think you’ll hate his character. He’s a very sympathetic character, especially as the story progresses. So I would put this movie somewhere in the middle as far as... it’s entertaining at times but maybe hard to watch at others, but ATJ’s acting game is definitely bumped up in this one considerably.
Nocturnal Animals (2016)
Alright... let me start this off by saying that I really hesitate to recommend this movie to anyone because I don’t want to be responsible for truly upsetting someone... or worse, triggering them. So please, please, please, anyone who might want to watch this movie, read a detailed summary of it first to make sure you know what you’re in for. It’s a very adult movie with incredibly heavy and disturbing themes. Some of the potential triggers include gun violence, blood/gore, child abuse/murder, rape, and abortion just to let you know. So really not what I would call an entertaining film at all. However... it is a very well done film and the most impressive performance by ATJ I’ve seen thus far. He won a Golden Globe award for it, and I believe it’s his most significant win to date. He has a Texas accent in the movie and again, I don’t hear a single mistake, so that’s really noteworthy that he appears to be very adept at accents. But... you will not like his character at all. He plays Ray Marcus, a psychopath with a penchant for random, senseless, and violent murder. His character is crass, obscene, vicious, unkempt, sexist, lewd.... I mean the list goes on. But you really believe it coming from ATJ, and that’s saying a lot after watching heroic characters like Ford or Pietro or soft romantic ones like Vronsky... to then see him as a psychopath like Ray and fully believe the performance. You really end up hating his character and wanting justice to be done, and feeling like you need a shower after watching him, heh. ATJ’s acting is really incredible in this, though. I gained so much respect for him after watching this movie as far as pure acting ability is concerned. There were a couple scenes where I was just mesmerized by his facial expressions and subtleties in his voice and body language. Ray is a scary, insidious, and evil dude, and ATJ really knocks it out of the park with his portrayal. Also, the movie is a great psychological thriller with deep meaning and many layers to peel back, if that’s up your alley. I’m actually currently reading the book it’s based off of because I really enjoyed the overall story and the way it’s structure as a story-within-a-story type of setup. There are a lot of other really good actors in it as well, such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Isla Fisher, and Ellie Bamber. But I have been watching horror/thriller movies since age four and really not much ever shocks/upsets me... and the first time I watched this movie, I almost lost my cookies at one part because it was so sad. So let that be a warning before anyone embarks on this particular journey, but if you’re up for it, it’s a very good film.
Nowhere Boy (2009) / Kick-Ass (2010)
I know you said top three recommendations, and those are my top three up there, but if Nocturnal Animals is not your cup of tea, I’ll throw in a couple more. I have not actually seen either of these movies yet, but multiple people have recommended them to me and said ATJ was very good in them. Kick-Ass is a teen superhero type crime fighting movie I believe? So expect something light and entertaining, I’m guessing. And in Nowhere Boy, ATJ portrays a young John Lennon. I would like the see these movies myself, so if I can get my hands on them I shall, but maybe they could be substitutes for Nocturnal Animals if that’s a bit too much muchness for you.

TOM FORD
by Poh Joanne (FMI1B) Who is this person?:
Tom Ford (Thomas Carlyle Ford), born on August 27, 1961, in Austin, Texas.
What does this person do?:
He is known for being an American fashion designer and a filmmaker. He launched his own eponymous luxury brand in 2006 and he previously served as a Creative Director for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Ford also directed the Academy Award-nomination films “A Single Man” and “Nocturnal Animals”.
His occupations include being a Fashion designer, Film director, Film producer, Filmmaker, Actor, Screenwriter.
Why is this person relevant?:
Tom Ford is one of the best-known American fashion designers who have made a serious impact on the world of high-end fashion. Ford had revitalized Gucci in 1994 and Yves Saint Laurent in 1999. Ford also made a name for himself when he launched his own label in 2006 with menswear, beauty, eyewear, and accessories and has continued to be at the forefront of fashion debuts when showing his collections each season.
Where does this person reside?
Ford’s family lived in Italy, where Ford moved from New York in 1990, and in London for 17 years. They live in his residences in New York, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, and London.
When did this person come into prominence?:
Tom Ford became the Creative Director for Gucci in 1994, he completed revamped Gucci's image — replacing the minimalism of the early 1990s with updated retro looks that oozed sex appeal. He expanded the company into a host of new ventures, including men's and women's sportswear, eveningwear and home furnishings. Under Ford's leadership, Gucci acquired the venerable French brand Yves Saint Laurent, fueling remarkable growth in the company's sales. Over the decade, Ford became Gucci’s driving force from 1994 to 2004, the company’s annual sales increased from $230 million to $3 billion.
After French multinational Pinault Printemps Redoute bought Gucci in 2004, Ford resigned from the company. In 2005, he founded his own fashion company, Tom Ford Brand, which offers menswear, eyewear and beauty products. Ford created significant buzz for his new company when he posed on the cover of a 2006 issue of Vanity Fair wearing Tom Ford Brand menswear, sandwiched between Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson, both of whom posed nude.
How is this person influencing the public?:
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has announced that Tom Ford will succeed Diane von Furstenberg as the next chairperson of the organization, effective on June 1, 2019.
The CFDA is an organization founded in 1962 by publicist Eleanore Lambert. It is a non-profit trade association of over 450 American fashion and accessory designers. Their goal is to strengthen the impact of American fashion in the global economy.
Being the chairperson of the CFDA, Ford has the platform and the means to influence the fashion industry more than before and he wants to influence the market on a global scale. Based on an interview with he did with VOGUE, when asked about his take on where American Fashion is right now, Ford said,
“In my heart, the future of American fashion isn’t only American, it’s global, so it doesn’t necessarily mean that the designers working in this country have to be American. If you think about Paris when I was at YSL, Karl Lagerfeld was at Chanel, almost everyone who was designing at a major house was not Parisian, yet it was still Parisian fashion. As for the CFDA . . . whether you’re an American designer conceiving a collection or starting your own label, there has to be that global perspective. When the highest percentage of luxury shoppers today are Chinese, you have to be thinking about the rest of the world.”
Ford is thinking global.

Who’s Your Celebrity Crush: Look I’m half convinced that watching Keira Knightley in all the Pirate movies is the reason I’m so attracted to women. That and Eva Green in Casino Royale just kinda sealed that metaphorical coffin.
Top 10 Favorite Songs: For the record these are not like, a “Top” list, because I love too many songs so these are all just some I really really enjoy: All Star - Smash Mouth (yes I’m being serious), Mr. Chu - A Pink, Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes - Fall Out Boy, Swing Life Away- The Rise Against, Your Song - Elton John (although I’m really partial to the Ewan McGregor cover), Stay - Mayday Parade, Shut Up and Dance - Walk the Moon, One Short Night - Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Suddenly Seymour - Little Shop of Horrors, Linus and Lucy - Peanuts
Do You Have Freckles: I have little spots that come out in the summer under my eyes but I dunno if I’d call them freckles. I mostly just call them sunspots but sure why not.
#Anonymous#Ask a Rocket#I never know what to do for the top songs things#cause I listen to so much stuff#and also the like same ten albums I've been listening to for years#so eeyyyyyyyy I'm sorry that's probably not a great way to tell what I like#I tried to vary it up there at the end

Quick little post of my top 10 movies from the second half of 2016. I just renewed my MoviePass subscription as a birthday present to myself in the middle of June, so that's when I started keeping track of all of this again. It seems that my preferred movie type at the time is more of the Drama genre. I really wish the screenshot I took had better resolution, oh well. After viewing 68 movies in the theatre in the past six months, here is my personal favorite Top 10 Movies of 2016.
1. La La Land
youtube
Seriously haven't fallen in love with a movie in the first few minutes since the original Kung Fu Panda. Po's opening montage about being awesome was, in fact, awesome. Here we have La La Land opening with a nice choreographed number to an upbeat song on a gridlocked freeway in Southern California. And if I'm not mistaken, wasn't that whole number done in one shot? Nothing short of amazing. The music throughout the whole film is amazing, and found its way to the top of my Spotify playlists. This movie gave me all the feels and I enjoyed it so much, that I saw it twice in the theares so far. You'll see it at the top of my 2017 list next year. La La Land is a modern take on the classic musical movie. You won't regret watching it. Something about the chemistry between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling is just magical. And here's a great article to read after you've seen it at least once...
2. Collateral Beauty
youtube
I love this type of movie and maybe I've just been overrun with feelings, but I thought this was a great movie. Not the greatest of reviews from critics, but I thought it had a good story with a nice little bow to wrap on the end of it. Though I thoroughly enjoyed Suicide Squad, this is probably still my preferred Will Smith movie of 2016. And you know I'm a sucker for anything with Keira Knightley. I thought everything in Collateral Beauty went well together and we learned a few lessons along the way. I want to say more, but it's still playing right now and I don't want to spoil anything.
3. The Edge of Seventeen
youtube
A wonderful coming-of-age movie that seems to capture the angst of an awkward teenage girl near perfectly. I can't personally relate to that exactly, but I was happy with how real this movie seemed for the most part. I originally got suckered in to this movie because I saw the trailer too many times before other movies. I left when the movie was over feeling like it was a good use of my time, which doesn't happen too often. Hailee Steinfeld could be a newer version of Anna Kendrick on the rise, but, you know, still shadowed by the "Flashlight" Anna's of musical talent.
4. Lion
youtube
An incredible film that showed a lifelong struggle. Another great performance by Dev Patel. It was weird hearing Nicole Kidman with her Australian accent, and it's always fun to see Rooney Mara play something different. The story of Lion follows the struggles of a lost boy and continues with his everlasting struggle to find his real family. Lots of powerful emotions during this movie. Lion could easily be one of the top 5 films of all of 2016.
5. Manchester by the Sea
youtube
I had high expectations for lots of tears during this movie. Though it's very powerful and emotional at times, it's almost always broken up by flashbacks and some minor comic relief. However, none of that takes away from the emotion, but it did help dry my eyes a bit. Great performance by Casey Affleck which could probably be one of the best performances by anyone during the year. Nice introduction to Lucas Hedges too, who almost perfectly personifies a 16 year old going through a bunch of rough stuff.
6. The Jungle Book
Surprisingly this is the only Disney movie that made it onto my list. Another masterpiece by Jon Favreau. Everything looks so beautiful and the story was translated masterfully to a live world. Dare I say that if you have kids, this should replace the original animated version?
7. Hacksaw Ridge
One of only two action/gory movies that will make my list, this movie shows Andrew Garfield defying odds and never giving up on his personal beliefs, even while staring in the face of death during war. They were also able to weave in a love story of sorts in a way that almost made me forget I was watching the bloodiest film of the year. It was weird seeing Vince Vaughn in a serious role. Hacksaw Ridge leaves you with a great feeling for the possibilities of what a good-willed person is capable of. The movie ends with photos and whatnot of the actual solider the movie was based on.
8. Me Before You
First of all, how did I not know that was dragon lady from Game of Thrones? I mean, I've still yet to watch GoT, but maybe I'll start that once my girlfriend leave on another 6 month contract and I run out of video games to play. Anyway, it was a fun movie. Well, as fun as something this sad could be. I really enjoy these U.K. movies. An almost typical story of "I don't really like" turned into "Oh wait, I love you," Me Before You takes you on another emotional roller coaster with an ending that I didn't expect.
9. Bleed For This
The other action movie. I was not interested in seeing this. At all. I thought it looked stupid. And did Miles Teller really actually make the leap to these kinds of movies when Divergent started? Anyway, this movie was based on another actual event and it was surprisingly good. I found myself completely invested throughout the entire movie. We see a successful boxer at the top of his game succumb to a life-threatening, career-ending car accident. But you can't keep this guy down and this movie follows him through his journey to recovery. As a bonus, you get to see actual video footage of the real boxer this movie is based on.
10. Rules Don't Apply
This was a fantastic Warren Beatty production with an All-star cast. I've loved Lily Collins since I saw her in Love, Rosie. Annette Benning does a great job as an overbearing mother. And it's a great chance to familiarize yourself with Alden Ehrenreich before you fall in love with him as Han Solo alongside Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) in 2018. Back to this movie. Rules Don't Apply is an interesting look behind the scenes of the glitzy glamour of Hollywood in the early 50's-60's.
So my taste in movies is definitely unique. Even I expected to have at least one action film in this top 10, but looking back, these are my choices. Action movies are good, but sometimes just don't have much else other than action. Captain America: Civil was was great, and I did enjoy Suicide Squad. Comedies are another favorite of mine along with animated movies, but none enough to crack the Top 10. Other honorable mentions: Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, Ghostbusters, Kubo and the Two Strings, Don't Breathe, Light Between Oceans, Storks, Accountant, Trolls, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Nocturnal Animals (very emotionally disturbing, in an uneasy way), Rouge One: A Star Wars Story
All in all, with my MoviePass subscription, these 68 movies just cost me a total of $285. That brings me to an average of less than $4.25 per movie. And I skipped out on a LOT of movies as well. Pretty much avoided all scary movies hahaha. MoviePass has a few different subscription options. Unlimited allows you to see one standard film per day each day of the month for $49.99. If you want the 3 movie plan, it’s $30.99. And if you only plan on watching a couple of movies every month, the 2 movie plan runs at just $20.99. Definitely worth looking into if you plan on watching movies, and a great investment during the summer explosion of movies. If you’re interested, just click here to see what MoviePass is all about.
(Not a paid advertisement. Though if anyone from @moviepass is out there, feel free to show me some love!)
If you want to see what I’m watching now, follow me on Instagram @ jugglingjeremy and feel free to ask my thoughts on any movie.
