First ask, kinda nervous - but let's go (I found your blog yesterday, and I already became a fan✨️)
I saw you like love and deepspace, do you have a headcanon about one of the characters?
I swear, before the new update (that they put a period calendar), one of my biggest headcanons was that Zayne has a period app in his cellphone because of the MC. So he knows when she is moody because of the period, then he gives her a lot of sweets and hugs and cuddles ❤️
rafayel headcanons
♱⋅── Don't be nervous, love~ That's such a sweet headcanon for Zayne, I definitely can see it happening as well! If you've been following my blog then you already know I'm obsessed with a certain fishie, so here are some (a lot) of headcanons I have for him~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
general headcanons:
If this were a normal!AU I definitely headcanon Rafayel being younger than the MC (she'd be 27, a full-time bodyguard and he'd be 24 but a famous art protegee since 15), but Rafayel insists he's the older one to everyone you meet. It drives you insane.
He canonically has a Mercedes Benz AMG Gran Turismo and Ferrari 250GT, but I think he has at least three sports cars.
It's not a symbol of wealth to him because, honestly, Rafayel simply doesn't check the price tags on anything-- if it's a beautifully designed car, suit, jewelry, or painting, he buys it without another thought.
And vice versa. If an expensive label offers to sponsor him but he hates the designer he'll refuse no matter what the pay is.
Also suuuch a niche thought but I can so see normal!AU Raf and you first hooking up in a club or bar. You disappear the morning after mind-blowing sex, and Rafayel can't get you out of his head-- but he doesn't even know your name.
He makes paintings of hidden freckles on your body, of your blurry figure dancing in the dress you wore that night, of colors and swirls that remind him of your touch. The media goes crazy over this mystery woman who's taken over the famous artist's heart.
He has no reservations about calling you his muse and within hours the press is abuzz with speculation on this mystery person who has captured the artist's heart.
"Love? Yes, I'm in love with her."
You, on the other hand, are mortified. You try to forget about him and move on but cue a series of further coincidences and shenanigans that tie you and Rafayel closer and closer together.
Also, he would fuck you in the passenger seat of his sportscar while the paparazzi are swarming outside.
And since it's a cold January, of course Rafayel would use any excuse to whisk you away somewhere warmer:
Rafayel would love taking you on vacation to different islands.
Beautiful secluded villas on the ocean with no one around to disturb the two of you as you spend your days lounging around the open-air rooms, Rafayel’s paintings strewn about the entire villa, splashing it with more color anytime you're not walking along the beach, cooking something together, swimming in the ocean at sunset, or fucking on every possible surface.
On days the two of you would want to go into civilization, he'd take you to lively local bars and restaurants, and as soon as reggae music starts playing you best believe he's tugging you up to dance. Especially if he has a drink or three in his system.
Laughing, one arm laces around your waist as the other spins you around. Rafayel chases away any sort of anxiety or awkwardness you might initially feel just by how happy and natural this seems for him. You're the only person he cares about, so what does it matter if no one else is dancing? Or if a dozen other couples are doing the same? As long as you're in his arms, happy, Rafayel couldn't care less.
He's a damn fine dancer too. Being a swimmer and all he has to have good control of his body, and we all saw him be a natural center during that lnds dance show lmao.
You best believe you're also fucking nasty in the sand.
Disguised as a cute dinner date, he blindfolds you and leads you to a hidden cover decorated with string lights, a candle-lit dinner on a picnic blanket waiting for you, which he spent all day preparing while feigning fighting art block.
It’s romantic and sweet, the way Rafayel expects praise for all his hard work and the way you’re more than happy to shower him with it. You feed each other as the sun sets behind the ocean’s horizon, yet you can’t even get to dessert before kissing him senseless.
"Wow, someone's excited."
"Shut up and kiss me."
Rafayel's smug grin is swallowed up by your lips, and he barely has the sense to shove aside plates of food before pulling you down atop him on the blanket.
You're grinding on each other like lovesick teens, moaning and giggling between yourselves before you pepper kisses down Rafayel's neck as you thank him for everything— for planning this wonderful vacation, for setting up this romantic diner, for being yours.
And being called yours? Being lovingly, irreversibly claimed?
That does things to Rafayel.
"Ya, I'm all yours cutie, my muse, my sweet darling." Rafayel smiles up at you, covered in the deep red of your lipstick from his cheeks to the jut of his collarbone peaking out under his ruffled shirt. "Yours."
He flips the both of you around, swallowing your yelp with a kiss and cushioning your head with his hand as it hits the sand. Hooking your leg onto his shoulder, Rafayel kisses the delicate bone of your ankle, lips tracing up the curve of your calf, up to the tender bend of your knee, all watching your expression twist with desire as his other hand teases your inner thigh.
I'm yours, I'm yours, I'm yours. It's a promise, a prayer whispered into your skin between love bites, between suckles on your skin that taste like seasalt and desire.
When Rafayel does finally kiss your cunt, it's light, teasing, and he admires the pretty lace, bunching up your dress just enough to still hold eye contact over the folds as he sucks your swollen clit through the fabric.
One of your hands tugs against his hair, Rafayel moaning at the sudden pressure as you bring the other up to stifle your cries.
"No, no, please don't do that," he whines, nuzzling into your thigh, looking up at you with puppy eyes before roughly fucking two fingers into your weeping cunt. "Wanna hear you, my little siren. My heart."
Greedy. Rafayel is greedy for everything you give him, taking your hand from your mouth and gently kissing your knuckles as every precise curl and thrust of his hand makes you moan and writhe against the sand. Each sound you make a melody, each cry of his name intoxicating.
It's not long before Rafayel goes back to eating you out, unable to keep his mouth off you for long. He forces you to hold eye contact as he makes out with your cunt, eyes rolling back at the wet, sloppy sounds in between his pussydrunk moans and the distant roar of the ocean.
Only when you cum for the third time, desperately tugging his hair between pleas for mercy, does Rafayel relent with a whine.
Placing one last kiss on your swollen clit, his dazed smile meets yours, the dark pink blush covering his face matching the hearts in his eyes. Your lipstick stains are still visible, branding your kisses into his high cheekbones, neck, and sweat-slick chest. Shit, even his undoubtedly expensive shirt is stained around the collar.
But the marks around his lips and down his jaw are all smudged by your release, marring Rafayel's pale skin with a dark red, dripping down his throat as he swallows the taste of you once more. And when you meet his eyes again, you realize he's far from done.
"Say I'm yours. Say I'm yours again."

hcs for miles 1610 here
Tumblr media
He listens to a lot of reggaeton, afrobeat, and R&B. C'mon guys, look at my face and say to me he doesn't, also he prob like old school rap too, thanks to uncle Aaron and his dad, Jefferson probably showed his some jazz
I feel like Mama Rio and Abuelita Gloria showed him some old Puerto Rican singers and he listens old songs from time to time, specially when his nana is visiting
This man knows mechanics. Period. Help his mom to fix things around the house, shower, the lights etc. Bet his 'son and dad' time involved something with fixing things around the house and Jefferson 'passing the knowledge ' to Miles
"Listen Miles, you're the man in the house when I'm not around got it?"
"'kay dad"
"When I'm not around you're responsible for your mom deal? Gotta make sure she's in good hands when I'm not around"
"I gotchu dad, don't worry"
Ok listen, I'm kicking my feet thinking about Miles tuning his uncle's Ducati (and prob Aaron has a Ducati Scrambler. I do not take criticism), while listening music I'm just *giggling like a schoolgirl*
Btw I feel like if Miles ever had a motorcycle for his personal use and not for Prowler activities, it would be a Kawasaki Ninja or a Yamaha XSR 900. For Prowler activity honestly, he would have a Hayabusa bc it's fast as fuck, with purple neon lights like his Prowler suit. you cannot argue with me. I feel like it was a way of him and his uncle spend time together before his dad died
Miles prob is always tinkering with the titanium claws and his paraphernalia. (I love this word btw)
So yeah prob hes always with his uncle doing shit on the motorcycle or his suit while listening music or sum, or practicing boxing together.
And I bet his mom slapped them two when she once arrived and saw Aaron teaching Miles how to pilot a bike
"What you're doing with my son Aaron!" *that one meme of a man slapping the player on the shoulder*
"Ouch ouch! I'm just teachin' the kid how to pilot Rio, I surrender I surrender!"
"¿Y tú? ¿Qué diablos está en tu mente, Miles? ¡Montando una motocicleta! What am I going to do with you Miles Gonzalo Morales?!"
"¡Cálmate mamá! Uncle Aaron was just teachin' me, no es gran cos- ouch! Mom that hurts!"
Speaking of which, Mama Rio has insane strength on her arms (being a nurse demand a lot of strength to carry patients, changing their clothes, helping them bathe and all), that being said, when Mama Rio get ✨la chancla✨ oh boy, run, no kidding, run
(Everytime my mom grabbed her havaianas I runned more than Usain Bolt. I still do honestly)
I have a feeling that Miles knows how to cook, like he always knew. Arroz con pollo? Bet, does it with eyes closed. Fancy meals? Oh boy he's probably the only guy that the women of the family let inside the kitchen to help with Christmas banquet.
He eat his veggies, hates wasting food, it's not a picky eater but don't put pickles on his burger for the love of God.
Bet his nana tried to give him a bit of coquito without his mom seeing. (I hc his nana is one of those old lady that are a menace to society)
"Take a sip don't worry, No one is watching"
"No nana I'm all good"
"¡Mamá! Take this away from Miles."
Since his dad passed away he understood quite early that now he is the man in the house, that now he's the one to take care of his mom. So he started paying more attention to the chores. His mom is on duty? He's putting some music and cleaning the house, changing the blankets of his mom's bed, and probably making something for her to eat when she come back.
Prob has his mom schedule on his phone to make sure he knows where she is so it wouldn't risk her seeing his as the Prowler and he can watch out from the buildings while Rio walks to her work
Sunday family lunch was usual at Miles' house, his dad 'helping' his mom with the food (he just looked and passed her the ingredients), while Miles set the table. Music on the radio, enjoying the day before Miles need to go back to Brooklyn Visions.
Prefer more salty foods than sweets. Likes eating steak, it doesn't matter if it's BBQ or carne assada, he likes meat. For sweets, he's obsessed with the way his mom does Tembleque (sorry Abuelita Gloria)
We know his room is quite similar to 1610 Miles, but I feel like he doesn't have as many toys as 1610 Miles does. He sold some and used the money to help his mom somehow, he just doesn't want to be a burden for her.
I feel like he doesn't give his mom the money, he straight up pays the bill, or does groceries, so there's no way his mom can deny it. That or he gives the money to his uncle and they pretend that it is Aaron helping them.
It's confirmed by the artbook that Miles Prowler is a vigilante. That being said I think he decided to be the Prowler to help his place somehow, maybe even to make his dad proud, and to make his mom's life easier (just imagine the amount of people that get in the hospital because of how dangerous is the city now my god).
His mom is the priority in his life, he loves his family, his neighborhood and his friends. He's a kind soul with a shattered heart.
Miles is a quite good student. Not the '🤓☝️ actually that's happened at 09:12 in 1786…' type of smart, but the fast thinking kind of smart student. If he doesn't remember the formula he uses logical thinking. Prob takes classes ahead of his years and since he's always tinkering with his uncle his grades in calculus related stuff are pretty high.
Very good with Spanish by the way. Since his dad passed away he started learning more and more to speak with his mom in her native language to make her feel more 'at home' somehow.
I feel like in the first week after his dad passed away he slept in his house for some time and not in Brooklyn Visions dorms, he wished to be with his mom. He did not want her to be alone on her bed, mourning hi dad's death. Abuelita Gloria stayed some months with them too to help her daughter and to help Miles
Miles do his best to be organized, make his bed everyday after waking up, his cabinet is always organized, his Jordans are clean and probably have a collection of them on a shelf in his room. The only messy place on his room is his desk
Has a vinyl collection, don't argue with me. There's literally a bunch of vinyls in his room, guys.
Has some old Puerto Rican singers vinyls on his room thanks to Abuelita Gloria
Miles sings a bit, and have quite a melodic baritone voice. For my synesthetic friends, his voice sounds like honey, Miles is most of times humming when he's making upgrades on his claws
He's more athletic than 1610 Miles. Parkour, boxing and playing basketball with his neighbors and uncle
Started parkour because of his prowler activities to keep up with his uncle, same with boxing, after all he needed to defend himself and his mom. I don't doubt he knows krav maga too and I also don't doubt he taught his mom self defense.
Bought his mom a self defense kit
Uncle Aaron teached him forbidden movements in jiu jitsu, I take zero criticism on that one
Miles has a hard time sleeping sometimes, doesn't shift much when sleeping and has a knife under his pillow or something both in his house room and in Brooklyn Visions.
Loves, love, loves kids, as i said he's a kind soul with a shattered heart, and I think he's quite good with kids, and scares the shit of some at the same time.
I feel 'angry painter' vibes from him. He sketches and all but I feel like he's more of a painter and graffiti kind of guy. I do think he knows how to play bass or piano btw
Would get piercings on his ear and tongue, yes. But since he's the Prowler it would be troublesome because of the time that takes to heal
The old ladies of the neighborhood love him, he's kind to them, and always scare away weird looking guys
Is the crush nextdoor of almost every girl on the neighborhood
One time he scared the shit out of a creep on his neighborhood. Punched the guy so bad that dislocate the man's jaw. Since then he need to hide himself on valentine day, the good part about it is that he got a lot of chocolate to eat.
Seems like a bad boy all the time but he's an introvert. Miles do his best to don't get attached to people bc he doesn't want to drag them into his world or risk people he loves
He just don't want see people dying anymore, that's why he does what he does, to make the world a little bit safe, even if it's just a bit

Bruised ego has been rotting in my head for days, it’s genuinely so good. However I’ve been thinking, what’s the relationship with Derecho and Nighteye? Especially with Derecho being an ex-criminal and basically being superglued to All Mights side when they enter their hero arc.
The whole hullabaloo with Nighteye refusing to continue being All Might’s side kick as long as he continues his path and junk. The drama and all that, do they keep in contact or did Nighteye cut them off as well.
like a lot of die-hard all might fans, i think there's a lot of well-deserved hesitation around derecho — she is definitely a live wire, and though she's sober and reformed (and desperately, totally, entirely consumed with love with toshinori), she was one of japan's most wanted criminals for a long time.
i think it's trepidatious at first. i think it's a lot of grumbled appreciation for nighteye since he's truly allowing all might to not focus on the paperwork and incident report's that come with being #1. but, i think it's also a lot of miscommunication.
have you ever had that one coworker that seems like they fucking hate your guts for no reason, which then makes you clock in for your shift as their #1 hater? like, i mean you're chugging the hater-ade. and then, by chance, one day in the break room, they're like "oh, by the way, i saved one of the last slices of cake from hime's birthday celebration for you" in the most nonchalant way and you realize they actually don't hate you? they just have such pathetically bad resting bitch face?
that's derecho and nighteye's the first three months together at might tower.
Tumblr media
cut to the most insanely tense meetings while toshinori is literally just trying to get the two most important people in his life to be fucking normal around one another.
all it takes, though, is one off-handed joke that really tickles nighteye despite not being close to derecho's best work.
from that point forward, i like to think they stay in contact throughout the course of all might's career, even after the two part ways. i think derecho truly trusts nighteye — and he is one of the very few heroes she does, aside from toshinori, gran torino, and endeavor (though she'd never say that last one out loud).
derecho definitely presses him for details on that vision, too.
but nighteye never tells her.
he wants them both to be happy, and for derecho to not count their days down in her head like a waning clock.

Backlogbooks Bingo Challenge - Horror Recommendations (part 1)
To the surprise of no one, I'm starting off my challenge recommendations with horror! I'm getting the publication dates off of storygraph, so if I'm wrong, I take no responsibility <3
60s
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson -- Shirley Jackson! The queen! This one is such a combination of horror and humor and then horror again, about two sisters who live alone, ostracized by their town because of their family's dark past.
70s
Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon -- A very creepy folk horror novel about a family who leaves The City to come to a Small Town in new england, getting Close to Nature. Naturally, the townspeople have some dark secrets. I loved the atmosphere in this one--the slow building of dread, and trying to piece together exactly what the Dark Secret at the center of the harvest home festival is.
Jaws by Peter Benchley -- Okay, I don't know if I can actually recommend this, because to be honest with you, the movie is so much better. But also, if you're a shark movie fiend, this is a Piece Of History. Feel free to reply and argue with me if you love this book!
Carrie by Stephen King -- This book is about Carrie, a perpetually bullied girl who has the chance to go to the prom. I'm sure you know how it goes from there--but even if you do, I recommend reading the book. It's a heartbreaking horror novel, and I really enjoyed (slash hated) the way the tension mounts as you get closer and closer to The Bad Thing
The Shining by Stephen King -- Jack Torrance has a big new job as the caretaker at the Overlook Hotel during the off-season, and there's some evil afoot! Again, I feel like you know how it goes from there, but King is really so good at building dread and tension.
80s
A Nest of Nightmares by Lisa Tuttle -- Recently rereleased in the Paperbacks from Hell line, this is a collection of horror short stories that mostly center on women, with horrors both mundane and paranormal (but an emphasis on the paranormal). These stories were so creepy to me, and I really enjoyed the way that mood built. TW for rape (I can tell you which story for sure if you want! I'll just need to double check my copy to make sure I'm not misremembering)
Misery by Stephen King - He's back again! This is actually my favorite Stephen King novel (setting aside the dark tower series to make it a fair fight). Paul Sheldon, a bestselling novelist, is taken captive by his biggest fan, Annie Wilkes. Annie is like, my favorite villain I think. I've been wanting to reread this book for years because of her <3
2000
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski -- Okay recommending this book does feel a little like trying to trap someone, but I love it. So! Will Navidson's house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside; Johnny Truant is obsessed with a book by a blind man about a film that Navidson made that doesn't exist; everyone is lost in the labyrinth, including you. Please join me in this bonkers book. Conspiracy board supplies are not included, but you're encouraged to gather them up yourself as you go.
Uzumaki by Junji Ito -- Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is haunted by spirals. This is not as metaphorical as I imagined it would be when I first picked it up! The body horror in this book is insanely good, and there are some lines/images that are going to live in my head Forever. Highly recommend if you like horror manga.
2003
Come Closer by Sara Gran -- This is a fantastic possession book--it keeps you right in her point of view as she spirals down, trying to figure out if she is in fact possessed or if there's some other break with reality. I loved the "are you possessed" quiz as a guiding structure.
2006
The Ruins by Scott Smith -- Trapped in the jungle, far from home and with no way to get help, a group of friends face an inhuman horror. This had some of the most skin crawling body horror I've seen, and I loved the development of the antagonist (don't wanna say more because spoilers!). Great survival horror. What a terrible group of people to be trapped with.
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks -- If you love yourself some worldbuilding and zombies, check out this book! World War Z gives you vignettes about different areas of the world, and different aspects of life during a zombie apocalypse. It was a slow read for me, but I really enjoyed the details.
2007
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill -- An old rock star buys a ghost online, because he's a dumbass (aka because he "has a thing for the macabre"), and has to go through hell to get rid of it. It's been years, but I remember being deeply creeped out by this book!
2010
Feed by Mira Grant -- More zombies! This one set twenty years after the zombie apocalypse, following two bloggers who are working to uncover a conspiracy behind the Infected. This had political thriller vibes mixed in with the horror, which kept a fast pace, and I loved the main characters. Eventually I may even finish the series!
2011
The Ritual by Adam Nevill -- Four old friends try to push aside old and new tensions for a reunion hiking trip. Since that's not working, they try to take a shortcut and end up very, very lost--and very deep in woods that have more than just animals to worry about. I held my breath through a lot of the first half of this book. Good for folk horror fans or people who want to be very afraid of every forest they walk into.
2013
Dark Tales by Shirley Jackson -- Shirley Jackson again! This one is a collection of short stories, including "The Summer People" and "Louisa, Please Come Home," which are some of my favorites. Creeping dread, domestic horror, and the question of what happens when your life takes a sudden, unexplainable turn. Definitely recommend the edition with an introduction by Ottessa Moshfegh!
2014
Through the Woods by E.M. Carroll -- A collection of short horror comics, with dark fairy tale vibes. I want to eat E.M. Carroll's art style, or at least cover my house with prints from this book.
Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix -- Have you ever had a nightmare about being trapped in an ikea? Or, sorry, Definitely Not Ikea (So We Don't Get Sued)? Are you tired of your retail job? This is the book for you! Haunted ikea: much more terrifying than I expected it to be.
The Grownup by Gillian Flynn -- This is a quick, 64 page story about a young woman who pretends to be a psychic to get by, and ends up being pulled deeper and deeper into a family's dysfunction when she promises to help rid their home of ghosts or other powerful forces.
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer -- Horror science fiction about Area X, an unexplained phenomenon where earth is returning to "pristine nature" with a horrific twist (or many of them). Our main character, the biologist, is one of my favorite characters I've ever read. I'm actually a little insane about her. Join me!
This is really long so I'm splitting it in two! Stay tuned for 2015-2019 recommendations next week :-)
And please recommend your favorite horror books for this challenge too!

Netflix atla live action review ep 1-3
So i was able to watch the first three episodes and i wrote down some thoughts. Strap yourselves in, it's gonna be a big post. There's a lot i don't like, but it's not all negative. So let's get the negative out of the way first, then we'll get to the positive.
The cgi is abhorrent. Especially the green screen stuff where a lot of movement is happening. I'm specifically referring to the scenes of Katara and Sokka in the canoe as well as the Omashu railing system, and anytime Aang is flying on his glider. The bending may be better than the original live action, but it's not good either. Bending for me was always gonna be impossible in live action. I never feel like there's any connection between the moves the actor is making and the cgi element. In animation it's much easier to make the two connect, but an actor is basically staring at nothing and moving their hands around a bunch, hoping post will make it look good. This show also fell prey to the "ball of water is consistently losing water and yet remains the same shape and size" trap. I think out of all the elements the airbending looks the best and the earthbending so far the worst. The Avatar state looked very janky as well, some shots looked like there wasn't even an actor there anymore and it was all animated. And not animated in a good way either, some of the movements were way to wobbly, reminding me of that weird broom flying cgi in the first harry potter movie where the character is flopping about awkwardly bc it's badly animated. The animals also look pretty weird to me, i can barely tell where Appa's face is most of the time. Also for some reason they have momo making monkey noises instead of lemur noises? Like he legit sounds like a chimpanzee? I wonder what that's about.
The costumes are very hit or miss. They're very bright and i've often seen them fit awkwardly on the actors. Suki's headband was practically sliding off of her head while doing a fight scene, and in Omashu an extra's headscarf literally slid off of her head as she walked out of frame. Don't even mention Bumi to me either, that guy looks absolutely insane to me and i mean that negative. I can't suspend my disbelief enough to pretend that's a real guy. I liked Suki's makeup however, and i really like how they did Katara's hair and outfit. We got our first glance at Ty Lee and Mai too, and i like that Ty Lee is basically a carbon copy of her cartoon outfit.
Some story choices are.... interesting. Some of them, i'm not sure whether i like them or not yet. I'm confused as to why they combined three different stories into the Omashu storyline. We have Bumi, Teo and the Mechanist, as well as Jet all piled up in the same city, and somehow Zuko is there as well. The Jet story happened way too quickly, and i'm confused as to why Sokka was so upset at Jet's betrayal when he hadn't even spoken to the guy at all, he didn't even know his name. I don't like the choice of having everyone split up in Omashu. There was a lot of focus on Katara and Sokka and Aang barely appeared. I will say i really loved the no bending fight Aang and Zuko had in Omashu. Such a shame that their choreography barely got any time to shine due to the fight scenes being edited like marvel movies to hide mistakes. This has me excited for the blue spirit episode though!
I don't like the way they revealed that Aang is the Avatar in the watertribe. Why is Gran Gran the one that immediately knows? Just bc she's old? I liked that Aang revealed it himself in the original, but in this one it's just Gran Gran telling everyone who he is and Sokka not even believing her.
Then there's the opening for the first episode. I have very mixed feelings. I like that they showed the bond between Gyatso and Aang, and i liked the way they switched between Gyatso's last stand and Aang falling into the water. I'm sticking to my guns however with saying that we didn't need to see the attack on the airtemples play out. I liked it being this mysterious event that happened so long ago it's become legend to anyone alive today. But now, as a viewer, we have more information than our main characters. It also took away from the emotional turmoil of Aang finding Gyatso's skeleton. In the original, there's still this slimmer of hope, are they really dead? Could some still be alive? Only for it to be ripped away then and there. Now the audience already knows Gyatso is dead, we know what Aang is about to find. They also didn't really linger on Aang's emotions after this, like at all? He buried Gyatso and basically went "alright where to next?"
There also seems to be a lot less bonding time, making the relationship between the characters in episode 1 and 2 very weird. Katara and Aang barely had one conversation in the first episode, and Katara was already talking about Aang changing her life and helping improve her bending after only one day. It feels very weird and forced. It gets better by episode 3, but it was definitely bad in the first two.
I'm gonna say it again but i'm mad about Sokka's sexism arc disappearing. Suki was angry at Sokka for just comparing her skills as a warrior to him, when she hadn't even seen him fight yet. She also starts out as being weirdly enchanted by Sokka just bc he's an outsider. He's not even attractive at all, and they're trying to sell him as some sort of heartthrob. I like their bonding time while they trained, but i don't like how immediately Sokka is hung up on her. He still needs to meet Yue, and idk about you but to me it would be weird for him to already like one girl, and suddenly jump to the next.
I'm not sure why Kyoshi is being Aang's main Avatar guide here? I always figured it should be the Avatar right before you that would do the job, so why did Kyoshi get to Aang before Roku? And why did she already give Aang the speech about saving the world? What else is Roku gonna do? I know we get the Hei Bai story in this show, so what's the point of the Hei Bai story when it doesn't lead to Roku's dragon coming to Aang to warn him about the comet? I'm not mad at this btw, genuinely just confused. I don't understand the point yet.
Onto the acting, once again very hit or miss. So far Gordon (Aang) has been one of the best. He's a very good representation of Aang's character, and i like that he brought out Aang's sassier side right away. Kiawentiio (Katara) so far has been really good too, and i like her chemistry with Gordon. I was prepared for Ian (Sokka) to be much worse than he ended up being, and a lot of jokes in the first episode did end up landing for me. Unfortunately the opposite is true for Dallas (Zuko), i was expecting his performance to be better than what it ended up being. It's not bad per se, but definitely less refined than i was hoping. Same for Paul (Iroh). I don't like the way he delivers some lines at all (especially the Jasmine Tea lines, it's way too forced, i don't actually believe he likes jasmine tea rn. In the original uncle barely mentions which tea he's drinking, and only once asks for jasmine tea bc it's his favorite. Otherwise he always just says "cup of tea" and never mentions the flavor. Idk why but the emphasis on jasmine tea really bothered me lol). I really liked Azula so far. Elizabeth brought a very cutthroat energy, which is precisely what i'd expect from a character like Azula. Daniel Dae Kim was also just everything i was hoping for and more. I'm hoping to see more of him (for his acting... no other reason.......)
Idk why but i was elated at seeing the cabbage merchant and hearing him say the line. Best moment of the whole show so far (and that's saying a lot i think lmao).
The music is very good. Some of the placement of the more dramatic music is a bit awkward? Like moments that i feel should have a low quiet melody seem to have a more dramatic flow which makes the scene lose emotional value to me. Maybe that's just my preference though. I like the nods to the original music throughout the show, especially for Kyoshi, the fire nation theme as well as the avatar theme, and then the exact same credits music as the original. I love the more epic/dramatic version of the avatar theme.
Overall, i am enjoying myself. I wasn't expecting greatness from this adaptation, and so far i'm remaining kind of neutral i think. It's not absolutely horrible, and i'm not cringing every five seconds. Of course it's never gonna compare to the beauty of the original animation. That's always going to remain untouchable to me. And this adaptation obviously does not come close at all. But it's fun, i guess, so i'm gonna keep watching.

WHAT THE HELL WHY IS SNAPE SO MUCH MORE CRUEL IN THE BOOKS? 💀 Thank you so much for telling me all that btw, I think I understand why so many hate him now, since I've only seen the movies I was always flabbergasted when people said that they hate Snape but bro is a literal creep. Taking Lily's photo is sooo weird wtf 😭 Also why is he tormenting a literal 11 year old boyy. Damn. And poor Hermione :')
Thank you for your time btw! ^^
Also, are there any honorary mentions in the books? Not necessarily about Snape too perhaps but maybe anyone or anything else? Like, are the books that different from the movies? Low-key makes me wanna read them but I don't feel like buying the books 💔 (':
You don't need to buy anything! It's free if you search online. I haven't bought a single book but I've read the whole series online and even found the audiobooks free online lmao.
Honorary mentions?
Tbh, when Harry visits his parents graves in deathly hallows, I was always moved by the line 'he wished he was sleeping under the snow with them'
And I think all the chapters in Half blood prince that focus on Voldemort's memories from when he was a young man are super engaging. Everything about his family is interesting, imo.
I liked how, when Hermione asks Ron to be her date to Slughorns party, Harry gets all flustered and says he 'knew something like this would happen'
I like how, when Harry uses the resurrection stone in the last book, he and his mother are so enthused to be able to look at each other that they just gaze at each other for a bit.
I LOVE the scene with Madame Maxine and Hagrid when we find out Hagrid is a half giant. I'm a sucker for characters telling people they like "don't go". And I love how Harry is all like "oh damn. I should NOT be hearing this conversation"
There's a moment where Harry tells the dursley's that Voldemort has come back, and aunt petunia expresses fear. Harry says it's the first time he appreciates that petunia is his mother's sister. I think it's so cool that petunia, someone who does her best to live a smuggle life, is still very aware of the kind of threat that Voldemort is. I feel like that's a detail a lot of people look over. To me, that scene adds a whole new layer to how terrifying Voldemort is.
I like how Neville gets given a candy wrapper by his mom (she was tortured to insanity and has been permanently hospitalized. Neville was raised by his gran as a result) and his gran tells him to throw it away, but when he thinks no one is looking, he stuffs it into his pocket instead. Like. God. I just love that scene. Neville's mom doesn't know who he is. To me, I read that scene and can't help but think "Neville has never received a gift from his parents. He keeps that wrapper because it's the only thing his mom has ever given him. It is the only type of 'gift' that he will ever receive from his mom" It drives me insane.
Oh and oh my GOD. I love how Hagrid is all like "Harry, I'd love you to win the tournament. It'd show everyone that you don't need to be pure blood to be worth something" and this moves Harry so much that he gets to work on solving the egg clue. Literally NOTHING anybody else has said to him has made him take action, but Hagrid's faith in him is what did the trick. And I love the line "there was something about lying to Hagrid that wasn't quite like lying to anyone else." Their relationship is honestly so pure. I love that Hagrid was Harry's introduction to the Wizarding world. He literally brings Harry to us, the reader (or watcher if we're talking the movies). Harry comes to us on Hagrid's motor bike. From the very beginning, Hagrid carries out Harry's introduction.
I love EVERYTHING about the way dobby adores Harry. You don't get much a sense of it in the movies, but their relationship is super wholesome. Dobby may have been a free elf, but he followed Harry's every command because he loved him so much. He straight up fought another elf for insulting Harry. He deserved better than what the movies did with him.
I will say, the one thing from the movies I like better is that I love the scene with Hermione and Hagrid right after Draco calls her a mudblood. I love how he holds her hand and says "don't you think on it" and Hermione's eyes are filled with tears but she smiles at him anyway. That was incredibly cute. Although, in the books, Hermione does not know what a mud blood is, and I think there is merit in having Ron--the only pureblood wizard--know what it is while Harry and Hermione do not. There's something so pure about Ron attacking Draco even though hermione doesn't know what a mudblood is. It's like "I don't care if you didn't hurt her feelings! I don't care if she doesn't know what that word means. I know what that word means and you're not going to talk to her that way."
Oh, and I like the part where Percy sends a letter to Ron telling him not to talk to Harry anymore. Harry being all like "I've know percy for 4 years. I've spent summers with him. He gave me top marks during the tournament. I shared a tent with him." is really effective and you can feel his hurt so well.
This post is so long lmao. I've left out so many good moments. My point is: read the books! You'll love them.

As somebody who is not familiar with them besides the curse and their friendship with Charles can you please give us all the tea in English?
Pop a squat and get some water to stay hydrated, this going to be a long one so I'll post it under the read more
The protagonists
Chiara Ferragni - one of the OG Influencers™. Literally, she started her blogging/influencing career back in 2010(? ish), went on to create a business around her 'The Blond Salad' brand.
Fedez - part time rapper, part time tv presenter, part time... Idk. Something.
Fabrizio Corona - notorious (derogatory) paparazzo in Italy, general nuisance and waste of oxygen. Allegedly team Fedez (?????)
Angelica Montini - fashion designer and influencer (?), Fedez' mistress
Achille Lauro - un gran pezzo di manzo Singer and alleged fling of Chiara. Used to be friends with Fedez, they released a song together.
Important dates:
2016 - Chiara and Fedez start dating
2017 - Fedez proposes in the middle of a concert
March 2018 - their first kid, Leone, is born
September 2018 - they get married (y'all need to look the wedding up, it was insane)
March 2021 - their second kid, Vittoria, is born
March 2022 - Fedez reveals he had been sick for a while and had a pancreatic tumor removed
2023 - Fedez has various health problems, he takes a step back from 'public' life
2023 - Chiara is fined 1.1 mil euros for fraud.
Also in 2023 - Charles Leclerc suffers through Sanremo and watches as his friends marriage crumbles in front of him lmao
2024 - Fedez and Chiara officially separate
2025 - Chiara gets indicted on fraud charges, will have to go to trial in September
2025 - Fabrizio Corona (derogatory) drops the cheating allegation bombshell
2025 - Chiara confirm the cheating allegations are true via Instagram stories
The fraud
Chiara endorsed a pink pandoro made by Balocco - a % of the sales for the pandoro was supposed to go as a donation to a pediatric hospital. Turns out that Balocco made a one time donation of 50k prior to the pandoro going on sale and kept the rest of the €€€ and so did Chiara.
Chiara claims that she didn't know about it, her reputation suffers a bit of a hit, everyone starts eyeing her, things are not good.
Ferragnez
I need y'all to understand that Chiara and Fedez were everywhere in Italy. Brand deals, constant socmed posting, they even had their own tv show ffs (two seasons of these guys, TWO!!). Literally everywhere. The Ferragnez were a brand (a là Brangelina)
The cheating
Turns out that Fedez had been cheating on Chiara for the majority of the relationship. According to Corona, Fedez was in love with Angelica but Angelica was never that into Fedez. He was so down bad for this girl that the day he got married, he called Angelica and said "Just one word from you and I'll walk away from all of this" - clearly she told him "wtf you on bro" because the Ferragnez wedding went ahead as scheduled. Fedez was too chicken shit to actually break off the relationship because of the kid (only one at the time) and the brand/money involved. The cheating continued up until their separation.
The Instagram Story
Auto translate
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and original in Italian
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fabrizio Corona never shuts up (unfortunately)
Despite dropping the bombshell and dragging his so called friend through the mud, Corona came out and told Chiara to stop making herself look like a victim because she did her fair share of cheating as well. He said he would drop names in the coming days and started by pointing fingers at Achille Lauro (god, I've seen what you've done for others, when will it be my turn???)
Conclusion (and my thoughts which you didn't ask for lmao)
The saga is not over and we'll have more in the coming weeks. Sanremo is in aprox two weeks (y'all know how crazy that is), and both Fedez and Achille are going to be participating 👀
Fedez had also decided to compete with the song "Bella stronza" (translation: beautiful bitch [idk it's hard to properly explain the connotations of 'stronza' if you don't speak italian]) during the duet/cover night, which... Bro. Tone deaf much?
The timing of everything is very sus. The fact that this whole drama came out now and basically buried all conversations about Chiara's fraud charges, the fact that everyone and their nonna will be watching Achille and Fedez at Sanremo, etc etc.
Again, a bit sus.
But I do feel bad for the kids... Their parents basically have broadcast their lives 24/7 for everyone to see and idk. It's a bit sad 😶

liked this episode maybe the most so far. i don't mind the glacial pace that much bc when you're an asoiaf freak even slow episodes are Much to Think About but i did enjoy shit finally getting a move on
the dragon bonds were v moving to me in this ep :( i think it's something they've kind of suggested here and there but not really made much time for before and it's made the dragons less interesting to watch. they feel more like characters when we can see them engaging w their riders and also now im grieving lizards
like ali h finally leaning into the whole 'i don't actually care what viserys wanted' but I still don't feel like the conversation with rhaenyra was the best primer for that. also ali h being a shit mother once again because she feels emotionally divorced from everyone except rhaenyra.... yeah
and wait is she carrying the show's version of maelor?? that would be a weird twist but ok. and then maybe they hide alicent AND helaena from the public eye in this time and play off the child as helaena's (and he's just inherited his gran's colouring). maybe alicent becoming everything she once imagined she despised rhaenyra for i.e. mother of bastards who she would put on the throne, putting her friend's children in mortal danger etc.... im getting carried away but yeah
aemond being the one to ultimately bring down aegon and sunfyre.... right and good
daemon visions!!! im actually so excited about the visions this was what I was most looking forward to since last week. I think the hbo adaptations should really get weird with it bc i genuinely believe fandom and casuals alike have a lot of fun dissecting those and they're one of my favourite aspects of george's books. also rhaenyra being a weird proxy romance for daemon in place of his brother.... im giving this daemon take a little trophy it's insane and they should do more of it
downsides: i still don't feel like they're doing enough with characters like Jace and Baela. im slightly intrigued by the Rhaena stuff (though I think it would've worked better if they'd paid her the slightest bit of attention in the preceding season) but Jace and Baela are still really two dimensional. esp. Baela's relationship with Daemon, they really need to just get into the meat of shit like that sooner rather than making silent nods to it here and there before expending the whole premise in one fall out scene (that's my prediction for how that will go anyway). and yeah jace is just a toast sandwich rn
love the fishy tully armour idk

i think the weird alternate timewarp reality where darragh somehow appeared to yell at sean and meet lenny and maeve was the best thing that has ever happened actually out of everything ever
okay for you hypothetical darragh was also timewarped
sean was on one of his now semi-regular combined father's day/anniversary of death trips to boston, to sit in a park and drink and remember his da with the quiet and privacy to mourn in his own way
has to stop for beer obvs and is just browsing the imported beer when he hears a proper thick olde irish accent very casually making a recommendation. freezes. darragh hasn't even realized. he's still browsing too until he hears that 'da?'
darragh is elated and also still so used to sean just throwing himself he still braces himself as his adult son throws himself at him, immediately bawling in relief and overwhelming emotions like that's his da. his da's alive and older and going grey but he's there he's physically fucking there
takes sean a solid 20 minutes to calm down enough to actually get words out they're just sitting on a bench in a mall sean uncomfortably close because he can't believe his da is actually there while darragh is classic stoic irish dad but he'll cry later guarantee
darragh is a smart man but was still lucky to timewarp at night after being shot in his bed so he kind of got the ease in of seeing the city come alive with the morning and realising 'well definitely not heaven not hell i definitely remember being fatally shot i am dead my son is not here (devastating) i need money'
he has a pretty basic 9-5 working in logistics stock delivery packaging sort of gig and a cozy apartment and sean loses his mind. actually thinks he's gone full delusional he's sitting in his dad's modern apartment with his dad making dirty instant coffee that tastes as burnt as it did in 1889 when he dared to try coffee and his dad is asking about his life, when he timewarped, what's happening and laughing about how quiet sean is being because 'once upon a time i would've given my right leg for you to be quiet for 2 minutes now i actually want to have a chat and you're silent'
sean spends so long pussy-footing around trying to suss out how his da would feel about the fact he's bi and in a happily committed relationship with a black man when he finally shows darragh a photo of lenny darragh just squints and points 'who is that' to maeve and considers backhanding him when sean goes 'oh yeah that's our daughter maeve'
the second a grandbaby is involved darragh is booking tickets back to blackwater with sean and everyone is insanely excited to meet darragh macguire who is still considered a folk hero in ireland and they have heard so many stories both true and untrue about and darragh absolutely dazzles them all
like if hosea was in the market that smooth smart talking aged like whiskey Irishman would need a restraining order. lenny and darragh strike up intellectual conversation as easy as breathing and darragh loves lenny he's pulling him into a bear hug and insisting lenny can call him da too. maeve sits on his shoulder the entire time just squealing gran-da is so strong and he adores her firecracker energy
sean gets his storytelling antics from his da and darragh of course being a former politician/activist has the most captivating way of telling stories. whole gang crowded around listening to darragh confirm or correct stories sean has told about his life - as well as the classic embarrassing stories from sean's childhood to lenny's delight and sean's horror
within two weeks darragh moves his entire life to blackwater so he can be part of his son and granddaughter's lives. he is first call to babysit maeve because as he loves reminding everyone she is simply as much of a terror as sean was at that age. he also insists on teaching her irish
as much as sean still struggles to sit still and maeve will never, ever have the ability to sit still, darragh still drags both maeve and sean to church every sunday because he can look past all sean's many many other errors in life but his son will be damned well going to church and they are getting that little girl baptised asap.
deadeye macguire was actually one of darragh's many nicknames. they discover time has in no way dulled darragh's actual skills as an outlaw he is a menace at paintball/laser tag and maeve would choose to he on gran-da's team over sean any day.

Thank you @typicalopposite for the tag!
Was basically useless for the past 5 days due to being sick so I'm still insanely behind schedule for my fic (ahhhh) but here's a bit more from Chapter 1 of my @aroyallybigbangrwrb Tangled fic:
“You want to go outside? Well then, tell me, boy. Do you know why we stay up in this tower?” Her voice is ice-cold, sharp and unforgiving. Oh no. “Yes, I know, but-” “Exactly, to keep you safe and sound, dear. Need I remind you what were the circumstances that brought you to me? For me to take you in and experience the burdens of parenthood once again in my old age? Did you forget what happened to your parents and siblings?” “I-” “You are the most sought out person by all the ruffians, thugs, thieves and scoundrels. The world is a terrifying and dangerous place, you are the very proof of that, and the world will only be much more wicked and cruel towards you. I am the only one you can trust in the universe, but how do you expect me to take care of you out there while still protecting myself? Are you so determined to make this harder for me? How can I protect you, boy, unless you always stay in here?” “But Gran, I’m twenty-three, I can-” “So? You are still but a young boy. Your parents were far older when tragedy struck, and look what happened to them. And might I remind you that-” “But Gran!” Henry cuts off, a risky thing to do, but he’s truly growing desperate. “I can help! I can be different and stronger if you’d just let me try!” She glares daggers at him, and he instinctively shrinks into himself. “Sorry, Gran.”
Yes, excessive paraphrasing of the lyrics of "Mother knows best", this is an AU fic after all 😜But I also threw a line from another Disney song in, see if you can find it!
No pressure tagging @luainthewild @thinkof-england @lfg1986-2 @england-would-fall
banner by my lovely partner artist @havanaroses!

episode 3 - Doubt Thou the Stars
major spoilers for the show and books, swearing, I go feral on multiple occasions, spent most of this simping for cam/lockwood and I'll apologise now for some of the things I've said (multiverse of George I'm blaming you for a couple)
I would just like to reiterate that this is not a proper analysis of the show, this is my immediate reactions to what happens in the show. barely anything constructive is actually said in here 👍
a ring is what we're looking at
Georgie I love you
hands (oh dear starting early)
hands again
"which you stole illegally" honey-
you have me in a chokehold lockwood
hehehe fairfax
"George, this... negativity, it's why I don't tell you things in advance" first of all I am weirdly obsessed with the way he says that, second of all I wanna give George a hug
hands
ok but who gave cam the right to look that good
"miss Kingston got her hair done special" George I love you
"straight into the office. that's a classy move"
omg I love lucy's jumper
his cheeky smile omg
hands
ring
"you lie like a politician" yeah bc he has to
you can do any job for me lockwood
hands and ring
absolutely we have a deal I'll do anything for you
hands (omg I need to stop)
they're children how did they get alcohol
bottle opener thingy scene
omg Georgie in his apron and gloves 😭
so sad we didn't get the "nice... towel" scene
barnes is so sinister sometimes
I love lockwood and george's friendship, just yelling at each other about cleaning
ooo green lighting when she's taking the keys
tut tut
"I visit my gran in Sidcup" "...sidcup is in London"
"you've got a real hard-on for him, haven't you" "well, if... you wanna put it like that"
"I'm practically a serf" aw lockwood honey
all I can think is the Traitors castle even though I know it's not the same
lockwood's so pretty
oh lord what the hell was that look lockwood don't lower your head with that intense gaze wtf
"apart from anything else, we've got much better flares" 😂
don't you just love it when someone who doesn't have any clue about your job tells you how to do your job
lots of smashing
he's fishing (where tf did he get a fishing rod from)
hands
his grin omg
oh crikey this boy needs sleep I can see his eye bags even though the lighting is dim and my room is bright
"What, and deny us all this... beautiful moment?" you're a beautiful moment- wait that doesn't make sense
his smile I am on the floor
aaa suspense I don't like it
omg we get to see George's Touch again I love that
ew cobwebs
hands
well that was silly
oh no
you can disrespect me anytime woah what is happening to me holy shit
EXTREME CLOSE UP
ewwww cobwebs
I could never be an agent I have arachnophobia
ok those special effects were awesome
"probably wanted to warn us not to go down there" *proceed to go down there*
Lockwood say what's on your mind
ok I get why Ali said that the monks were terrifying that chanting haunts me still
turn your torches off you'll see the ghosts better
ohh I don't like this
Lucy no
LUCY NO
LUCY NOOOOOO
aw the boys saved her
hands
"make a wish" I wish for you to marry me and we live happily ever after
slap
"my cheek hurts"
husband calls out pathetically for wife after waking up, she crawls over and he reaches desperately for her hand
"oi, where's his slap?" fair
hahaha the way they just drop to the floor
you look so silly in those goggles
lockwood's voice is doing Things to me
I love that you can see Ellie rethinking as Fairfax goes on
"we don't travel round with it, we're not insane" *while focused on Lucy*
"you're just a performer too, aren't you?" we love a masking king
MICRO-EXPRESSIONS!!! CAMERON CHAPMAN THE MAN YOU ARE
"She stole it again, Lockwood" yep
I love that you can sort of make out the flowers on her dress
oh christ that was scary
ew old man burning
hands
heavy breathing lockwood (I blame the multiverse of George chat for that)
"I'm working with maniacs" got room for another one?
why did Ellie think it would be a good idea to try and run straight through the middle
"Shut up!" their faces afterwards
kipps pls stop sounding so smug
dw I believe you lockwood
punch me like that wall pls
barnes looks so sad
omg he's being a protective dad
hands
ohhhhh lockwood in a proper suit 🪣 (bad timing for it I know)
"do you know my name?" George I love you
"that's a shame, she was a fool but... she really fitted in there actually" *lockwood nudges him* George I love you even more and I think we would be the bestest of friends
I love the lavender in the pockets of Penelope and Ellie
hands
omg Lucy's drawing! like she said her hobby was in the books!
hand + ring
*George casually pulls out stolen evidence*
I want lucy's jumper
the way lockwood's sat on the chair has me weak
"You belong here" *stares at her with heart eyes*
hehehe
hehehe
oh dear
why does he keep sprawling on the chair
I don't want to talk about the sound I just made at that one frame of lockwood
"She's good, and... she's finally starting to get me" aw Georgie I love you
"she's a lot tougher than you think" *thumps as Lucy passes out*
I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE SOUND I JUST MADE AT THE OTHER ONE FRAME OF LOCKWOOD (YOU ALL KNOW THE ONE) - "Luce?" shgisuhuigjd
seriously who gave him the right

NATLA Episode 5 - Spirited Away (3/3)
[Masterlist of my NATLA thoughts]
An explanation of what I'm doing here and my history with ATLA.
Of course, full spoilers ahead.
<previous/next>
Katara's fog memory was heartbreaking. I disagree with people who say that it makes her 'responsible' for her mother's death because 'she was so bad at waterbending it killed her mom'. I think that's an insanely terrible way to view the scene - almost like you WANT to hate Katara and punish her for not being your magical perfect waterbender who takes no shit.
She's a CHILD and the firebenders had already made it clear they weren't taking prisoners. Katara's mom DID claim to be the waterbender so they'd leave without finding Katara (in the animated series), this new addition just, well, adds to the same story where Katara was - and wasn't - just a helpless bystander. She really did try to help her mom, terrified though she was, but she was A CHILD. She wasn't strong enough then to really make a difference and had to watch her mother die because of the way Katara had been born - and the brutality of the Fire Nation. It adds so much to her trauma around waterbending and I like that they explore that generational, cultural trauma as Katara works through it in the series to become a great waterbender.
In the animated series, she's already pretty good before Aang shows up and she doesn't seem too messed up about the impact her mother dying because of waterbending has on her own bending ability. It's just not explored at all in the animated series. I like how the live-action really delved into the reality of real-world cultures that occupiers try to eradicate and the struggle diaspora youth face as they try to preserve their culture while not getting killed/punished for it themselves. The struggle between 'just assimilate so you don't get punished' vs 'this is my heritage and you WILL NOT destroy it' is very real, complex, and deserves this spotlight.
I really love how they give Kya more of a character than the animated series did - Katara's memory of her always watching the sunrise, her joking with Gran Gran about how many strands are best to braid with, and her encouraging Katara in her waterbending - all these little moments mean so much and I'm glad the live-action expanded on her character even a little bit. Uuughhh Katara trying to refuse to go into the igloo she knows her mom dies in is so heartbreaking. We know what's coming, she knows what's coming, but her mom's memory in the spirit world has to play the scene out like it happened. It's gut-wrenching and makes you want to reach through the screen to help her so bad. The seamless switch between Kiawentiio and the younger actress is so visceral and good to show the fear regression this memory has on her.
I think combining parts of the Bato of the Water Tribe episode here into Sokka's Fog journey was really smart - we didn't have time to have a whole side quest, so we got to see the ice dodging trial and the community of the southern water tribe before the older men went off to war though a flashback that seriously impacted Sokka's life.
I didn't see his father being disappointed he didn't do better was Hakoda being cruel at all - especially since he didn't tell Sokka, only confided in Bato. Hakoda knows that they're going to need to leave the tribe in the hands of a young person soon - his fears are legitimate. I also think that the memory was skewed from Sokka's perspective and we didn't get to see the whole picture of Hokoda's view of Sokka's skills. Sokka is YOUNG during the ice dodging trials, someone is going to have to protect and lead the tribe once Hakoda and the older men go to war: being concerned that your child isn't up to it is actually better than shoving a 14 year old into power and thinking that they'd do just as good as an adult in that position.
That doesn't take away the sting of hearing your father saying you might not be ready to have people's lives in your hands - especially if that's what you've been told is your entire worth. But let's be honest: how many 14 year olds would you trust with people's lives? Probably not many. So to me, it's not cruel at all for Hakoda to confide that in his friend - again, he didn't say that to Sokka, he only ever encouraged his son. The warring perceptions of Hakoda's sentiment don't make the blunt facts of it any less true nor does it undo the hurt it caused Sokka - both things can be present at the same time.
In the animated episode, I do really like the aspect of the story that's brought in with Katara and Sokka getting to meet back up with and reminisce with someone from their family - while Aang is left out, always remembering that he'll never be able to do that with his people. I think they'll have more opportunity for that in season 2 (I can see them combining the earthbender prison with one for water tribe pow). I think that with the episode count the way it was, having this episode for Katara and Sokka to go through these journeys alone (again, enhancing the theme that together you're stronger than when you face challenges alone) was a great way to really delve into the deep parts of them they don’t want others to see.
Also, the animated show making an episode about Water Tribe traditions primarily about Aang really cut some important stuff we could have explored with Katara, and especially Sokka with the ice dodging trials - so I like that the live-action really focused on the water tribe individuals during that rather than Aang. Aang actually got to reunite with his family during the storyline and I think it was handled well.
I think combining all the Spirit World aspects into this episode instead of having them pop up again at the North Pole was a good way to get the whole vibe of the spirit world into the live-action while not making the finale too cluttered. A LOT happens in the animated finale and I think moving Koh to this episode was a good move. Though I miss Fang, he doesn't really talk, so I'm happy to see an early appearance of Won Shi Tong - who canonically does speak - to give Aang some pointers about the spirit realm. And for those complaining that he should be at the library - y'all - he's a spirit. He can both be at the library and also take jaunts in the spirit world, it makes perfect sense to me.
I like to imagine that when interacting with Koh, Aang was drawing subconsciously from his past lives to keep his expression neutral when speaking with the spirit. Like in the animated series where Aang just 'knows' stuff - including his past self's names - I think it's reasonable to assume that his past lives influenced his knowledge of how to deal with Koh, especially since two of them had direct and intense dealings with him.
Gyatzo's inclusion here was really nice - it's Gyatzo who tries to fully alleviate Aang's guilt over not being there to help against the Fire Nation's attack. I think that hearing 'it's not your fault' from someone who went through the genocide and knew Aang before was a really important thing for him. I love this reason for Aang to head to Roku's temple and deepening the connection Aang has to all the past Avatars - his past lives' choices are directly impacting him in the here-and-now.
Really, the monologues at the end of many of the episodes are so good - this one about how it's hard not to feel alone - how the only thing keeping you company is your own pain. It applies to everyone in the series and I love love love how they include Azula in that as well - her training late into the night as Ty Lee and Mai stay with her even though they've passed out. The show does such a great job at exploring how this generational war hurts everyone - even the fire nation - and how wars like this only cause pain and loneliness within everyone and that pain, like Yue said, can lead to massive amounts of destruction.

An analysis/rant about netflix's ATLA episode 1
who is that guy ?????
Tumblr media
oh he's dead now ig it doesn't matter
the people in the intro were giving uncanny
i like the costumes, they're cute, i like zuko's crew especially. and i like that everyone on the ship is wearing armor except for iroh
aang's airbending bordered on flying waaay too many times
loooove gordon cormier, he's such a great aang
interesting choice to have them know about the comet right from the beginning ? i mean i guess it works to set up the end earlier on. i do actually think i like that it was originally something the air nomads celebrated and it got stolen from them by the fire nation
my biggest pet peeve continues to be how much they just say the things meant to be showed or explored later on. zuko wastes a scene info dumping to his uncle about things he already knows just so the audience is caught up, gran gran spits out all the avatar lore suddenly, aang gives an entire monologue about being the avatar before he runs away when his thoughts should absolutely not be that clear about it yet.
appa crying ;(((((((( my day was ruined
i'm about to be very predictable but i think it's so stupid that aang wasn't even trying to run away after finding out he's the avatar. they left out what feels like an entire part of his arc and now he feels more like a vessel of information rather than an actual person with feelings
i hate the glowy eyes when they firebend lol
i like that they left in katara being a bad bender at the start instead of just making her a girlboss
no penguin sledding FUCKKK WHAT'S EVEN THE POINT ANYMORE
dallas liu sounds so much like zuko to me. like, his voice is so different but it just sounds like zuko
fire fucking shot what the hell
Tumblr media
aang's nightmares make no sense when we just saw what happened barely a minute ago, it's fine if that's how they wanted to set up his past but it doesn't feel like these things happened 100 years ago at all. the nightmares could've come in later or never at all.
i love that aang and katara still got their bonding moment, even if it was different from the original
didn't get a boomerang scene. so fucking sad
the conversation between iroh and aang was cool👍
NO MOTHERFUCKING YIP YIP ?????? IS THIS WHAT THE WORLD HAS COME TO
anyway, zuko was such a weirdo <3 love that <33 now for the serious opinions
it bothers me SO much that this guy is so old, like what's the purpose of sokka then ?? if the rest of the men in the tribe aren't literal toddlers ??
Tumblr media
sure sokka was the protector but this guy existing means he wasn't ever that alone in that role. it makes who he was a lot more superficial. sure, you can argue some of the people of the southern water tribe believed the role was superficial, or just not that important, but to sokka it was who he was and what shaped him. i'm guessing they probably did this because it was kind of insane to leave the entire tribe alone without sokka there to protect them. but to me that was always the point. sokka didn't want to leave, but he understood that leaving them alone was for a greater good that would ultimately mean all of their safety. he was able to leave because he knew, in a way, he was still doing everything he could to protect them. now he just gets to walk away without any worries, leaving behind a role that was apparently not even that important to him ?? also !! it does feel a bit sexist on the creators' part to think that surely those women couldn't have survived on their own, they need whoever has some testosterone to protect them. that's literally what hakoda did and what caused sokka to have wrong ideals (wether or not hakoda did it with these intentions or not). so. the showrunners just did that to another character but without punishing it this time.

Hello!! I hope 2025 has been treating you well so far!!
I wanted to say that I wasn't interested in lads at all when it first came out so I had no idea Sylus existed until one of your stories showed up on my tumblr feed. I am WEAK for characters with white hair and red eyes so I ended up reading a couple of lines and just omg. I read all of the like 5?6? chapters you had out at the time in one sitting and your writing is literally the only reason I am now heavily invested in the lads fandom lol. Every time I get a notification that you've uploaded a new story it makes my day.
I saw one of your posts saying you were having some anxiety about the whole "sibling" thing that the fandom is currently divided on. No matter what direction you take with Caleb and MCs relationship I know it will be just as phenomenal as everything else you've written so far. You put so much love and thought into your work that you could write about literally anything and I would be excited to read it.
I didn't really care for Caleb at first, I like my men angsty and came across as too nice and wholesome for me. Then his official release dropped and my first thought was oh no he's hot and my second thought was I can't wait to see how you portray their relationship.
I'm not the best at putting my thoughts into words so I hope nothing I've written comes across as overbearing or anything.
Thank you so much for gifting the fandom with your work 🙏
Hi there, thank you so much for this kind message. Like, thank you. I'm also so sorry that you did not care about LaDS until you saw my fic and now you're heavily in the fandom. I feel like I've done something terrible to you😭😭😭
Nothing you have said has been overbearing at all, and your thoughts are really sweet and encouraging, thank you so much. Normally I probably would have had the same thought as you when first seeing Caleb-I'm usually not into the straight-laced boy next door type, but there was something about his frustration when MC wouldn't let him tag along, his saying "who else is going to protect you if not me" and his barely controlled anger seeing her hurt and subsequently threatening to go after 'the cat' that scratched her that made me think: this man is nuts about her, like, utterly insane for her. So I'm glad that Infold is giving us villainy-gemini-possessive vibes for him, even though they'll never let him go into booktok dark alphahole territory.
Thank you so much for saying you'd be excited to read anything I write. I'm still feeling crazy anxious about the Caleb fics I've posted, because they are definitely darker and unhealthier than what Infold will be giving us, but for some reason my brain wants to think about what would have happened if Gran was an absent parental figure, MC never received therapy for her trauma from the labs, and Caleb was the only one there for her during her most formative years (Caleb, a traumatized boy in his own right if he was also in the lab with her). So I hope you do end up enjoying them. And if not, I also keep seeing stuff that inspires me with wholesome apple boy thoughts of a more normal, less codependent relationship between them where they're just two teenagers with crushes on each other and a deep fondness due to their shared history. So I hope to write more canon-compliant dynamics too in the future.
Also: 'my first thought was oh no he's hot' hahah i love it, i was slammed by how hot he was in the first chapters when I first played back in Feb, and then they KILLED HIM, the bastards, so I understand this feeling. Thank you so much for this kind ask, I appreciate it so much.
