My Covenless Romance TOH Hunter x Reader HC

Golden Guard/Hunter x Guitarist! Reader

Reader is the guitarist of My Covenless Romance.

("My Covenless Romance" is basically the Boiling Isles' version of "My Chemical Romance")

A/N: This took longer than excepted lol

• He was on a patrol at the night market.

•Hearing commotion, he rushed to the scene to find.. a crowd of teenagers cheering and..crying? to a band playing on a stage.

• 'What's so "great" about them? Sheesh, just go to the Bard Coven if you wanna watch someone performing or whatever' he prob thought.

•"Authorities and rules are so much better" little jerk most likely thought that too.

• “My Covenless Romance” written in a poster above the stage.

•Intrigued by everyone's hype, he stayed to see what was all about, obviously ONLY and STRICTLY for " investigation purposes". (Nah bestie you aint fooling anyone)

•It'll just be 5 minutes....

•He stayed the whole concert 💀

•rip his duties.

• After the incident, he started going regularly to the night market to "patrol" since he caught sight of insights of "suspiscious witches"

• The next day, he reported catching insights of a suspicious group of witches and for that reason he would patrol the market more frequently.

• LIEESSSSS. LIL EDGY MAN WANTED TO WATCH HIS EMO GROUP PERFORM JSLSIAHAKSHWNAK

• A FANBOY, has MCR shirts, albums and a few posters.

•Kikimora is TIRED of him.

•Belos is too focus on himself to even notice his nephew's new found interest/ maybe hobby??

• Plays their music on his crystal ball and sings his heart out on his room. (obviously with a nullifying sound spell around the room)

•Tried learning a few songs with his guitar. (I have a HC Hunter knows how to play guitar ok?)

• The more he listened to their music, the more he wanted to learn about the band's members.

• Researched on fansites for information about the members such as their name, their positions or roles in the band and the most important one, at least to him, which coven were they part of; and if it wasn't obvious, everyone was from the bard coven. (BARD COVEN SUPREMACY)

• As he passed through all the information, there was only one member left to check.

• Surveying through your information, you were the guitarist, "(Y/N) (L/N) is the youngest of the group with the age of 16, despite their young age, they managed to enter the bard coven without complications, which makes them a really talented witch", if he wasn't interested enough before, OH BOY, NOW HE WAS.

•He likes electric guitars, you play one pretty good, yeah new simp for you.

• Aside from being the guitarist, you were also the lead singer, so sometimes you helped the main vocalist on the chorus, or you had solo parts.

•He loves your singing and watching you perform live makes his days better.

• If by any chance you changed some notes and did a musical arrangement that wasn't part of the original song, or did a random freestyle, he would get goosebumps by how great it sounded. *chef kiss*

• You really captived this boy's heart :,,,) ❤️

•When MCR annouced they were doing a fan-sign, believe me when I say he RUSHED, as if Belos asked him to do it, to bought a ticket for the event.

(If you don't know what a fan-sign, then SEARCH IT UP, YOU LAZY! JK, a fan-sign its an autograph signing album event, used in K-pop; you interact with your fav idols personally, like asking them question, talking or holding hands with them, etc)

•Baby boy was really nervous to meet you, was excited and jumping out of happiness but also felt ill and restless. Just the thought of you knowing his existence was enough to send him to cloud nine.

•Blondie was slaying the “My Covenless Romance” shirt.

•Thank titan he put on his gloves today because his hands were SWEATY.

• On missions and at the coven, he was a professional at dealing with anxiousness and emotions in general; but! this is YOU who we're talking about, the (Y/N) (L/N).

• An internal mess. 🙃

• None of the training, he worked his entire life with, prepared him for such moment.

*At the day of the fan-sign*

• 30 minutes had passed and Hunter was waiting anxiously on the line. (Dude arrived very early. Told kiki to do his shift hshshshs)

• 10 minutes later, it was finally his turn!

• Approching the table, he kneeled to be eye-leveled with the first band member and talk comfortly with them.

• He had a great time chatting with each member; they answered his questions, signed his photo album, some even complimented his stunning mangenta eyes!

• Got flustered by the compliments.

• Other members were playful with him, making him play silly things like rock, papers and scissors or just patted his fluffy hair (with Hunter's permission, of course).

• You were sitted at the last end of the table, making you the last member to interact with (the best for last bestie 💅).

• The nearer he approached, the greater his nerves.

• 'Just one more member left and its my turn with (Y/N), please, don't mess things up Hunter' he thought.

•Would steal glances your way when talking to the member infront of him, he didn't meant to be rude, but you were so gorgeous up close.

(BE PREPARED FOR YOUR COLLEAGUE TO TEASE THE HELL OUT OF YOU FOR THE BOY'S ADORABLE BEHAVIOR, HECK YEAH THEY NOTICED.)

• (Y/N) waved farewell to the fan before them and patiently waited for their turn with the blonde boy that was chattering with their colleague.

• Soon enough, they sliced Hunter's album to (Y/N)'s way, meaning it was finally their turn.

• THE MOST ANTICIPATED MOMENT, HE WAS SCREAMING INTERNALLY.

• 'OH TITAN OH TITAN OH TITAN *screams in grimwalker*'

• His cheeks and ears turning pink, pulse increasing.

• “Hey buddy! What's your name?” you smiled.

• Goldy almost passed out because of that smile.

• “H-Hunter” he stuttered 'FUCK' he mentally cursed.

• "Hunter, nice name!" you said.

•His name rolling out of your mouth has to be the best thing that has ever happened in his life.

•"Thank you" he said, feeling butterflies in his stomach.

•“So tell me Hunter, did the other members teased you out much?” You asked while signing his album. Him staring wide-eyed.

• "Uh, I saw how much they teased you and got flustered by their comments, *sigh* Ah these guys, I'm gonna punish them after this" you said in a friendly way, an adorable pout adorning your lips as you finished your statement.

• YOU WERE WATCHING HIM THIS WHOLE TIME AND WAS WILLING TO DEFEND HIM FROM THE OLDER MEMBERS??!?!!?? ...yep, this gotta be a dream, no way its real, too good to be true.

• "No, no, no! Its okay, seriously, it wasn't THAT type of teasing, but thanks for your concern" he shifted his fingers under the table.

• "Hmmmm still gonna punish them though" both chuckled.

• You looked way more softer than what you looked on stage being all badass and hot af with your guitar with a face that shouted you could dominate the world if you pleased, but what he had in front of him was just a charming, lovable young witch. UwU moment

•"Say, I gotta admit your scar its pretty cool" you said pointing your finger to your left cheek, to mimic the side where the boy's scar rested.

• Reaching out his hand to touch it, his face reddened. A tiny "thank you" leaving his mouth, showing a small smile.

•Not wanting to trigger a possible bad memory (which was lol) to the ash-blonde-haired boy, the young guitarist didn't push more into the topic, despite being curious on how he got that.

• "I was wondering, if you weren't in the bard coven, what other coven do you think you would've joined instead?" Hunter asked.

• "I'm glad you ask, no one had really made me that question, interesting, yet I do have an answer, quite an odd one to be honest" you said.

•"I probably don't look like the type, however, I would've liked joining the Emperor's Coven, seeing witches like the Golden Guard fighting and being all mighty makes me kinda jealous sometimes; I've never talked to him but he seem quite an appealing guy " (Y/n) sheepishly answered.

• Hunter.exe has stopped working.

• "Wow.. that's really shocking" forgive him for replying lamely, his poor brain was melting y your answer.

•" Hahaha, I know right?! Are you interested in a particular coven or are you already in one?" you asked.

• "ME? Of course not! I'm still checking out and making up my mind" he replied. No way he was gonna tell you he was the Golden Guard, not yet...

•" Well, if by any chance you choose Bard, we'll be waiting for ya" you winked.

• Thank titan he was already on his knees because his legs gave up.

•"Then, what got you into MCR, Hunter?" you asked

•"Definitely by the band's music, your albums and singles are amazing! OH! And your guitar's solos? ARE mind-blowing and you look so breath-taking while playing. I gotta admit, after a while I just listened to MCR albums only because of you-" he blurted out.

•'Oh shit....' both hands flew to his mouth.

• (Y/n)'s cheeks turned red.

• "I-I'm sorry, I didn't realize unt-" he said agitatedly.

•”Hey- Hey! It's okay! I really appreciate your support, I..I like it" you shyly confess.

•The manager behind you made a signal meaning time had run out.

•”Aww dang it! Time ran out, it was nice meeting you Hunter” you offered him both your hands.

•“Likewise (Y/n)” he said taking both of your hands.

• Interwining your fingers with his, earning a gasp from the magenta-eyed boy, his face and ears becoming as red as a tomato.

•'So adorable! just as I expected' you thought.

•“Let's see each other at the next fan-sign!” you said while wiggling your hands with his.

•"Yeah! Sure!" he exclaimed, letting go his hands, you gave him his album and bid farewell to each other.

• He couldn’t sleep that night, he still felt your hands grabbing his.

• A blushing mess.

• He couldn’t wait for the next concert and fan-meeting. 🥰

Bonus:

• After the fan-sign, the band's members were all over (Y/n) asking them questions about the charming blond boy. (Yep, they watched the whole thing)

• Teasing (Y/n) to no end saying the blondie would be their future partner. (Y/n) secretly didn’t mind. 😳

• Everyone received a well deserved punishment from (Y/n) .☺️

The Boys are Back

Hey @roughentumble I did the thing 💖

Geralt's head pounded. His vision blurred on the edges. He slumped against the sofa, propped up against the pillows that Jaskier had helped him choose, trying to control his breathing. Four seconds in. Four seconds hold. Four seconds out.

It was always like this when he came back from a hunt still suffering from the toxic afterburn of his potions. He used to simply put himself to bed, but he'd learnt through horrible experience that falling asleep still high on potions would leave him feeling worse in the morning. He needed to wait till they wore out. Which meant regular breathing and sitting in a dark room until the worst of the feeling passed, then mindlessly scrolling on his phone while listening to ASMR until he felt sleepy enough to finally put himself to bed.

He refreshed his YouTube feed—an automatic reflex, given how many people he had subscribed to in his desperate hunt for sounds soothing enough to calm him—when a video popped up at the very top.

My Chemical Romance - The Foundations of Decay.

He frowned. Had he taken a hit to the head, muddling his memory? Had he taken too many potions? Or...

He clicked on the video. There were already well over ten thousand views.

Oh. Oh.

He was closing the app and phoning Jaskier before he'd even realised what he was doing. It rang three times, and then—

"Grrtrlllzzz." Jaskier grumbled. "Grrll... Geralt?" There was a sniff and the shift of a duvet. "Geralt? What's wrong? What happened?"

"Nothing! I just—" he glanced at the clock. It was 3:12 am. Shit. He'd forgotten that not everyone lived to his backwards schedule. "Fuck. Sorry. I didn't realise what the time was."

"Right." Jaskier sniffed. "So... you just wanted to chat? Or? Can I go back to fucking sleep?"

Geralt felt horribly guilty. "Fuck. Sorry."

"Was there a reason you were calling? Only I've got a shift that starts in—" more rustling, "—five hours."

"Um." Geralt swallowed. "Sort of?"

Jaskier sighed audibly. "Sort of?" He sounded massively pissed off. "Well?"

"My Chemical Romance just released a new single," Geralt managed, apologetically.

There was a pause. "What?"

"It's called The Foundations of—"

"What? Really?!"

"Ye—"

"Is it good?"

"It's really good," Geralt said with a chuckle. "Yeah."

"Fuck. Fuck! Okay hold on..." More muffled blanket sounds. "Wait, I can't listen and be on the call at the same time. Is it on Spotify?"

Geralt didn't know. "Probably?"

"Okay I'll message you, fuck—" Jaskier sounded suddenly animated. "Oh god. Do you think they'll play it next week?"

"Probably? It might be part of the uh..." Geralt tried to remember how Jaskier described his own music. "Part of the hype?"

"God, probably— holy shit. Geralt. Geralt!"

"Yeah?"

"It's our boys!"

Geralt laughed. "They're older than you."

"Still..." a sigh. "I... sorry for snapping at you. Thanks for letting me know."

"It's okay."

"I'm gonna listen to it now. I'll message you?"

"You better."

"Seriously. Thank you." A yawn. "Love you, Geralt."

Jaskier didn't mean it. He was just excited—and sleep deprived. Geralt swallowed.

"Love you too."

"Yeah you do."

The line went dead. A minute later, Geralt's phone flashed with a notification.

Holy cocking shit

I LOVE IT

AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

And then, five minutes after that:

Chapter notes: hi i'm back! i started thinking about the addams family, and well my interest in vampires didn't rlly diminish much... this chapter's pretty long, so i hope you enjoy! i apologize if my french or spanish is bad, i don't speak french, and i only speak a bit of spanish! i actually have like a whole plot n stuff planned, so i'm pretty hyped for this fic! hope u like it! :) (the title is from it's not a fashion statement, it's a fucking death wish by my chemical romance)

You wake up to a loud bang, bolting straight up out of bed. “What the hell?”

You rub your eyes before slipping out of bed. The night before feels very far away, almost unreal, but being in this room confirms your memories. You’re staying in the Addams’ house and are… a vampire. You take a slow breath before grabbing new clothing. You find a pair of black pants to match a dark sweater. While near the dresser, you look out of the room’s window. It’s dark outside, the sky a navy blue sprinkled with stars. The graveyard behind the house is illuminated by the moon shining over it.

You leave your room, deciding to try and find the living room once again. You wander through the halls before finding it. Inside you find Wednesday, the small girl, playing with a younger blond boy. She’s talking to him while holding a headless doll in her arms. You walk farther into the room, stepping on a squeaky board, alerting the children of your presence.

They both turn their heads to stare at you. You nervously chuckle.

Wednesday points at you, “That’s (y/n),” she tells the boy, “I heard father say they’re a vampire.”

“Wow really?” the boy exclaims, “Is it true? Do you drink blood?”

“Um,” you stammer, “Well, I am a vampire, but I haven’t been one very long so- no I haven’t drank any blood. Uh… what’s your name again?”

“I’m Pugsley,” he reaches over and offers his hand.

You shake it, “Well, nice to meet you Pugsley. What are you guys up to?”

“We’re playing the French Revolution,” Wednesday answers flatly.

You chuckle, “Huh. I mean I guess it was an exciting time. Who’s your doll there?” you point to the headless doll in her hands. To be honest, the beheaded doll was very unnerving, but the children themselves seemed nice enough, so you push your nerves to the side.

“Marie Antoinette” she says matter of factly.

“Oh,” you pause, “Explains the lack of head I guess.”

You stand there awkwardly for a moment, unsure of how to exit the conversation. “Do either of you know where your parents are?” you ask.

“I saw them in the dining room earlier. Uncle Fester was there, but I think he went upstairs to play with his dynomite caps,” Pugsley replies. Uncle Fester? Dynomite caps? There’s too much to unpack there, so instead you decide to find Gomez and Morticia.

“Okay, thanks.”

You head out the door, realizing you have no idea where the dining room is. You go to turn back, but the children are playing animatedly and you don’t want to interrupt, so instead you look for it yourself.

You find the dining room, and sure enough, Gomez and Mortica are seated next to each other at a long table. You walk over and take a seat near them.

“(Y/n)! How’d you sleep?” Gomez greets you.

“Like the dead,” you say flatly. A second later what you’ve said hits you and you blink slowly, “I mean, I slept well, thanks.”

“You did seem rather tired last night,” Morticia remarks, “I’m glad you got some rest.”

“Wait, did I sleep through an entire day?” you ask.

“Yes, though we did tell Lurch not to disturb you,” she answers, “We thought you needed the sleep. How are you feeling?”

“I feel…” you take a moment to survey yourself, “I feel okay. I think if anything I feel a little hungry.”

“We can get that squared away! Mama makes the best yak stew.” Gomez springs from his chair and over to a rope hanging from the ceiling. Remembering last night, you brace for a loud noise. Sure enough, once he pulls it, the house shakes as the ringing travels through the house.

“You rang,” Lurch grumbles.

“Yes Lurch, a bowl of yak stew for our guest!” Lurch groans and exits.

“Thank you,” you tell them, “You’ve both been very hospitable, I’m thankful you were the ones that found me.” You feel sincerity in that statement, you were not only grateful for their help, but another part of you has some feeling when you’re near them. You’re not sure what the feeling is, though you can confidently say you didn’t mind the couple, or hell, the weird household in general. Even if it is kooky, you can’t say you’re not charmed by their life.

Lurch comes back with a silver platter that he sets on the table. On it is a bowl of stew that he places in front of you.

“Thanks,” you say, before grabbing the spoon and looking back at the meal. Lurch takes his leave. You’re unsure about eating yak, but you are also hungry and the stew looks fairly appetizing. You take a scoop and put it in your mouth, surprised not only by the flavor of the soup, but also the feeling of chewing. It’s like you can feel your canines rip through the meat faster than before. In the time where you’ve been thinking, it’s completely slipped your mind that you probably have fangs now. That you’ve changed.

“This is- this is actually really good,” you remark.

“I told you, Mama is a culinary genius! Nothing beats her yak stew!” Gomez gleams.

You smile at Gomez. Something about him just makes you want to smile in a soft admission of admiration.

You turn your attention back to the stew, eating it quickly until there is nothing left.

“I’m glad you enjoyed Mama’s cooking,” Morticia smiles, “I’ll have to tell her you enjoyed it. It’s not very often she gets to feed guests.”

“It is very odd, usually most people never come back after eating her food… I can’t imagine why…” Gomez says with a puzzled expression on his face. You chuckle. You notice that you find yourself enjoying the Addams’ company immensely. A part of you feels sad that you will eventually have to leave.

“Ah, c'est la vie (that’s life) ,” Morticia remarks.

“Tish!” Gomez’s head swivels quickly to face her, “That’s French!” he exclaims, grabbing her arm. He begins to kiss it, from her hand to her shoulder, though is interrupted by Morticia, “Darling. We have company. Later,” she says with a sly grin. Gomez raises his head to meet her eyes, a dazed look on his face. “Later.” he remarks, before finding himself back in his seat, “So, Hester, any plans for the night?” he asks casually.

“Um…” you stutter, flustered by the show of passion from the man sitting across from you, “I- I don’t really know… I mean, I’m a vampire now so- does that mean I have to act like one too? I’ve never been in a situation like this, I don’t really know what to do,” you admit, staring at your hands. You look up towards Morticia, “Didn’t you mention you’ve known vampires before? Could you maybe help me?”

“Of course, darling.” Morticia says, “Why don’t we talk in the living room? If you’re alright with it, the children would enjoy listening, they are curious creatures.”

“Yeah, that’s alright. They asked me a question or two when I ran into them earlier. I don’t blame them for being curious,”

“Pugsley’s been very interested in nonhuman creatures lately, ever since that run in with that werewolf he’s been wanting to know more. Wednesday’s been teaching him some things, she’s always had a firm grasp on certain folklore!” Gomez said proudly.

The three of you walked to the living room and sat down, them on the couch, and you in a chair facing them. The children were still in the room, sitting on the floor. You fidget with your hands nervously. “So, do I have superpowers or anything now?” you half-heartedly joke.

“Vampires have very fast healing capabilities,” Wednesday states, “They are very difficult to kill, they must be stabbed with a stake to the heart or decapitated.”

“Very good Wednesday,” Morticia smiles.

“Huh,” you respond, “Alright, that’s not too bad.”

“There are certain weaknesses that should be mentioned, such as sunlight, garlic, crucifixes and running water.” Morticia adds.

“Wait I can’t eat garlic anymore?” you ask, “That kinda sucks, huh.”

“Well technically you can eat anything if you try hard enough,” Gomez says offhandedly.

Morticia cocks an eyebrow at him and sighs, “It’s not so much deadly, it’s more like a food allergy.”

“So I can still eat things with garlic in it?” you double check.

“As long as you aren’t a coward!” Gomez says enthusiastically.

You let out a laugh at Gomez. Wednesday is rolling her eyes, though Morticia just keeps looking at him lovingly. For a moment you forget about the obvious question hanging in the air.

“So…” you start, “I have to drink blood now?” you ask nervously.

“Yes, all vampires must ingest blood to keep themselves alive,” Morticia says, “You’ve got to be hungry by now I imagine,”

“Yeah… but I just ate.” you reply.

“You can still eat food, it just will never fill you. In order not to starve you have to drink blood.” she explains.

You look down at your shaking hands. Everything before now had felt unreal, but this? The seriousness in her voice is making everything too real for you. How could you possibly do that to someone?

“I- I don’t know if I can do that…” you voice shakes, “I mean- how… how could I?”

“Children,” Morticia addresses them, “Why don’t you go play with Uncle Fester while we talk with Hester.”

“Awwww, do we have to?” Pugsley complains.

“A vampire’s eating habits are quite personal Pugsley. I’m afraid so.”

“Alright,” he sighs and follows Wednesday out of the room.

“If you need help procuring someone, you just have to ask. Gomez and I would of course be willing to provide.”

“Provide…?”

“Bodies of course.” Gomez affirms.

“Human bodies,” you repeat, your mind reeling. You had noticed the family was quite odd, even creepy at times, but what they were offering? It sounded too close to murder. You suddenly become very aware of where you are: in a strange house with strangers. Your hands become clammy.

“Is everything alright darling?” you hear Morticia ask. Your throat swells up. You try to force words out, but nothing will leave you lips, leaving you in what is now panic. Finally something spills out, “You can’t kill people for me! You- you can’t!” you sputter out.

“Kill people?” Gomez repeats, “Why we’d bring them alive of course.”

You let out a breath, “Okay, alive. I mean- I just still don’t think I can…”

“Well I suppose there is another option,” Gomez adds.

“What? What is it?” you ask, hopeful.

“Animal blood! It doesn’t work as well, but it’ll do in a pinch.” he explains.

You perk up, “I can do that. That works.” you feel relief.

“Should we make some arrangements? The children could fetch some for tonight.” Morticia asks.

“You have been so kind, really. I would appreciate it, at least for tonight. Tomorrow I’ll work on leaving, I’ve been here long enough.”

“It’s been our pleasure,” Gomez responds, lighting a cigar, “It’s been so long since we’ve had guests.

“Well you certainly are great hosts,” you smile. Despite your situation, you’ve found yourself fairly comfortable here.

“Thank you,” Morticia says, “Now, we ought to ring for Lurch to get some blood. I’m sure the children would love to accompany him.” As she reaches for the bell, you ready yourself for the loud ring. Lurch walks in, “You rang?”

“Yes Lurch, could you gather the children and find some animal blood for our guest here?”

“Yes, Mrs. Addams,” he drawls. He leaves the room in search of the children. A quiet silence falls over the room. Deciding to strike up conversation, you pipe up a question, “So, when did you two meet?”

“Oh, on the best day of my life,” Gomez grins proudly,

“We met at a funeral,” Mortica explains, “It was a lovely day. Grey clouds filled the sky, thunder rolling in the distance.”

“Oh cara mia, I remember it like it was yesterday, our eyes meeting over the coffin,” Gomez starts, “I swear the whole funeral party had to be half as enchanted with you as I had been.” You notice the two of them becoming more enveloped in their memories of each other. You can’t help but smile at how truly in love they are, even if that love meant that you would sit there awkwardly wondering if they were going to just make out in front of you.

“Oh mon cher, you are as charming as you were back then.”

Gomez’s eyes dart up, “Tish! That’s French!” He grabs her arm and starts kissing it.

“Gomez darling,” she warns, “Later.”

He looks up dazed, “Oh yes, our guest. Where were we?” he asks.

“I think you’ve answered my question,” you smile awkwardly.

“Do you have anyone special back home?” Morticia asks politely.

“Well…” you begin to explain“There is this one guy, my roomate, I guess… but I don’t think he likes me like that.” you explain.

“Tiene que estar loco si no le gusta, eres muy guapo. (He must be crazy if he doesn’t like you, you are very handsome.) ” Gomez comments under his breath. You feel your face heat up. He must not know you speak Spanish, judging by how offhandedly he said it. You look over to Morticia who nods ever so slightly, making you even more flustered.

“Uh… gracias, pero… sabes que hablo Español, sí? (Uh… thank you, but… you know I can speak Spanish, yes?) ” you ask. Gomez’s hand, which was placed on Morticia’s knee, now grips it somewhat tightly. Morticia looks over to him in curiosity. His face seems flushed.

“¿Comprendes lo que yo digo? (You understand what I’m saying?) ” he asks tentatively.

“Sí, aprendí a hablar en Español en la escuela. (Yes, I learned to speak in Spanish in school.) ”

“Oh,” a breath leaves his mouth. His eyes keep darting back and forth like he doesn’t know what to do. You can tell his weight has registered onto the balls of his chair like he is about to leap off his seat, but something is keeping him grounded. You look back at Morticia, who seems about as intrigued as you. A heavy silence fell over the room as everyone sat on edge.

Breaking the awkward scene, Lurch walks in with heavy footsteps holding a platter, “Your blood.”

He sets the platter down on the table, removing the lid. On the platter is a wine glass with a dark red liquid in it. As soon as you see the glass you can smell it, the blood. Rather than smelling rancid, the metallic scent smelled like everything you could ever want. You quickly grab the glass with both hands and hold it up to your lips, gulping down the liquid. The taste of it floods your mouth, though some of it dribbles down to your chin as you frantically consume it. You drink the last drop and set down the glass, looking up.

“Shit,” you curse under your breath. You wipe off your chin with the back of your sleeve. “Sorry, I- I don’t know what came over me.”

“It’s quite alright,” Morticia affirms, “You’ve just been turned, I’m surprised you’ve gone this long without blood… well I guess there was last night.” You wince at the mention of that encounter. Trying to change the subject, you ask, “What happens if I can’t get blood?”

“Well, either you go to any length to get it out of pure hunger, or if you don’t, you die,” Morticia explains, “So it’s best you feed regularly.”

“So is that why I…” you try to think of a way to phrase it, “Why I don’t feel much restraint when I see blood?”

“Yes, though you’ll get more constraint as it goes on.”

“Oh, okay. By the way, I’m not keeping you up, am I? It has to be pretty late. I mean, I guess I’m already a night owl, so this isn’t too unusual for me, but you two probably should sleep, right?” you ask.

“If you don’t mind, I would like to get some sleep. Perhaps tomorrow if you plan on leaving, we can help you get back?” she asks.

“Yeah, that’d be great. And of course, go get some sleep. I’ll just hang out for a bit.” you say, putting on a small smile.

“Alright, good night then,” Mortica says.

“Goodnight Hester.” Gomez says.

“Goodnight.”

You stay in the living room much longer after they leave, lost in your thoughts. The weight of your new life- or death has started to sink in. Your mind drifts to drinking the blood earlier. The feeling of it had been great, though immediately after your chest felt heavy. You don’t suppose it has anything to do with your newfound changes. No, instead you recognize the feeling as the weight of your guilt.

You can’t help but wonder what kind of creature feeds off the life force of others. You try to reason with yourself by saying it’s like eating animals, yet you can’t accept the notion. This had felt different. Looking back to having Morticia’s blood makes your face flush, but you can’t also help but notice the difference from tonight. While the animal blood was good, and mostly filling, Morticia’s blood, human blood, brought a type of euphoria.

You didn’t need Morticia to spell it out for you. Using animal blood works as a substitute, but you know deep down you are now meant to feed on humans. The realization hits you as you think that. You are no longer human. On this thought your heart aches. What does this make you. Confused? Scared? Yes, those both applied. You feel lost.

You feel anxious thinking about going home tomorrow. Going home means it’s real. It means you have to face your roommate who you’re in love with and somehow not let him know you’re a vampire. You let out a huff. God, how are you supposed to do this? You take a small amount of solace knowing you have the Addam’s help. You’re glad they’ll help you get back home, you don’t think you could do it alone. You know even if you never speak to them again, their impact will be left on you forever.

You get up off the couch, deciding to go to sleep. You trudge to your room and plop onto the bed with a sigh. Eventually you drift off to sleep.

so, i talked about album openers, and if you have me, i’d love to talk album closers now. because, there’s nothing better than a album closer that makes you feel like you absolutely have to press repeat. here’s my favorite 10 in alphabetical order by band.

THE END. - AS IT IS / THE GREAT DEPRESSION.

what a good way to start this list, and what a perfect ending to this album. The Great Depression in its whole is incredible-- dare i say a masterpiece-- but this song stands out to me because it manages to be angry and defeated and almost uncomfortable. i mean, that bridge? come on! i can’t wait to listen to new music from As It Is, such a talented group of people i’ll miss Ben and Foley tho :(

GOODBYE - BILLIE EILISH / WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO?

what can i say? i’m a sucker for a good reprise. one of my favorite things about this album is that it’s a very cohesive piece of artwork even though all the tracks seemed to be stand-alone singles. this last track is the perfect example of that as it is the sum up of the greatest hits of each song. i just love it. i think it’s a pretty clever way to finish an album.

THE LITTLE THINGS GIVE YOU AWAY - LINKIN PARK / MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT

i mean, this song ends so epically, please. and i only put this one because it’s my favorite one, but “Powerless” and “Sharp Edges” are also strong album closers. i mean, i still can’t listen to “Sharp Edges” without breaking down in tears. i miss you, Chester :(

PLAY THIS WHEN I’M GONE - MACHINE GUN KELLY / TICKETS TO MY DOWNFALL

ah, this fucking song. he went and wrote a suicide letter to his kid. i mean, are you trying to break my heart into a million little pieces or you just happened to do it by chance? this song is so brutally honest, if you’re not in tears by the end of it, are you even capable of crying anymore?

FAMOUS LAST WORDS - MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE / THE BLACK PARADE

i mean, no shit, right? this is one of my ultimate most favorite MCR songs. i still get goosebumps whenever i listen to it (it’s been 15 years for fucks sake). hell, i cried my eyes out when i listened to it live. i just love this band so damn much.

THE BETRAYAL (ACT I) - NICKELBACK / FEED THE MACHINE

say whatever you fucking want about Nickelback, but it’s a good band. and this song is so fucking good. Ryan Peake, i fucking love you. Incredible guitar player.

DYING IN L.A. - PANIC! AT THE DISCO / PRAY FOR THE WICKED

so, to be honest this is one of my favorite things Brendon’s ever written. the pauses, the belting, the melody, the fact that’s just piano and strings-- ugh! i can’t even... still, much like Linkin Park, let us not forget about “Build God, Then We’ll Talk” and “Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met)”, because those two are incredible album closers. fuck, i miss Ryan Ross, just take him back, Brendon!

UNDERWARE - SUGARCULT / START STATIC

ok, technically a hidden track BUT it’s still the song that closes the album. and if you don’t like it then we can totally talk about “I Changed My Name” because it’s my favorite fucking song in the whole world, so--

TWENTY ØNE PILØTS

bare with me here, because all-- and i mean every single fucking one of them-- of twenty øne piløts’ album closers are fire. quiet fire, but fire nonetheless. from “Isle Of Flightless Birds” to “Leave The City”, look me in the eye and tell me none of them have you in tears by the end. i love how Tyler excels at ending an album on a bittersweet and sad yet hopeful tone consistently. ahh, i love this band so fucking much, so much talent.

I FELT YOUNGER WHEN WE MET - WATERPARKS / FANDOM

and we’re back at closing the post with a Waterparks song. and from the same album, no less! such a strong song to end Fandom with, for fucks sake! the abrupt ending, the looping back to “Cherry Red”... boi, yas. love it. i think the fact that this song loops back to the very beginning of the album is one of the most clever things Awsten has ever done (yet).

HONORABLE MENTIONS!

“Men Are All The Same” by The Used from their album Artwork. speaking of reprises... aahh... so good. this album is so fucking flawless through and through, man... i love the whole thing so much. i feel like The Used is such a huge band but we still not talk about them enough.

“exist” by Bleak Soul (aka: Ben Langford-Biss, ex-As It Is) from album existential meditation. is it an EP? technically? idk, no one cares. speaking of me crying to a song. my favorite thing about this song being the closing track is that at first listen it seems to be very happy and makes you think, ‘oh, great! so the album isn’t that depressing after all!’ and then you pay attention to the lyrics and you realize it’s probably the most depressing song on the album, EP, whatever. i fucking love it.

speaking of EPs... “Burned Out” by dodie, Human EP. listen, i’m serious about this girl. she’s so fucking talented. she deserves more attention!!! ugh, can’t wait for her debut album to drop in March. but back to the song, it’s the perfect contrast to “Arms Unfolding”, that starts all hopeful and bright; “Burned Out” ends out on a very sour note. but the lyrics are something that needed to be said, not only for dodie’s own personal story but also to portray a view from the artist’s perspective of what meet&greets and just what being a public figure in general feels like.

“Starting Over” by Evan Taubenfeld from unreleased album Just Sign Here... i mean. this man just gets me, but aside from that. stunning album closer.

“Born For This”, Paramore, Riot! talk about getting hyped by the end of an album, amirite? love that they used to open shows with this track. and speaking of Paramore: “Tell Me How“ from After Laughter. again, perfect contrast to the beginning of the album. love that.

and last but not least... “How Did I Fall In Love With You?” by Backstreet Boys from album Black & Blue. Howie D. belting, need i say more? didn’t think so. but given i’m here... the harmonies, the fact that it’s just piano and strings (my weakness in case you haven’t noticed). also, the song is about falling in love with your best friend and i’m a fucking sucker for a good love story.

Top 10 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 2019

The last list, for now. It’s been a wild ride.

Not the best of these lists, but some really refreshing stuff charted that year, and what was good was super good. And also, here’s a barely elligible #1 that nobody seemed to care about for some reason.

Disclaimers:

Keep in mind I’m using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. There’s songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.

Of course there will be stuff in French. We suck. I know. It’s my list. Deal with it.

My musical tastes have always been terrible and I’m not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.

I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.

In 2019, my finger was fixed, I dropkicked depression in the garbage bin (with a little help from Eurovision because it was super good and full of hilarious shit), got married, and went on a roadtrip on Vancouver Island (BC, Canada), and that was my first real travel in 13 years. Met a lot of great people, seen amazing places, trees, bears and whales. And planes are also part of the adventure when you’re not used to them (you can watch movies on little screens from your seat now?? I had no idea. I watched so many movies). It was very exciting.

I also saw VNV Nation live in February, for the third time in six years. This time I had enough budget to buy a tshirt. I wasn’t expecting that concert to be even better than the previous two. At that point the new album had only been out for a couple of months and we still knew the lyrics of most of the new songs and Ronan’s face was constantly broadcasting a kind of “...........how” expression (face it guys, we like you. A lot). And they finished with All Of Our Sins and let me tell you, half the club was ready to start a revolution by the time that was over. Super intense.

Ok. 2019 albums! First, let’s talk about some negative things. Coldplay released Everyday Life at the end of the year. It was... uh. It was basically how I stopped loving their new stuff. That’s a very sad conclusion (for now) to this saga. This is exactly what I feared would have happened after Viva La Vida, aka them trying to go back to their earlier sound - except in the meantime we’ve got three fantastic albums with songs full of energy and joy. So I’m not too mad about this, just disappointed.

Within Temptation released Resist, and it wasn’t very good either, but I appreciated the general aesthetic of it. More SF-themed albums in symphonic metal, please. NF released The Search and while I’m still not a fan there’s a song on it that would have been #1 on this list if it had been elligible, so that’s something. And Carly Rae Jepsen released Dedicated and it was super good so why isn’t she getting new hits. Why. It feels unfair. Oh, and Avantasia made Moonglow and that’s the first time I’ve cared about their stuff in like a decade or so. Ghost In The Moon is super good, check it out.

But the big event of the year music-wise, as far as I’m concerned, was the return of two bands I thought we had lost forever. Of course My Chemical Romance reformed, but they don’t have new music yet, so the main event for this post is the return of Tool with Fear Inoculum. It’s not even their best album, but having a pretty good new Tool album in the year of our lord 2019 wasn’t at all something I was counting on. Of course, the hardcore fans are still as insufferable as ever (insert the “you need a pretty high IQ” copypasta here), but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of it. Come on! Their first album in 13 years! 80 minutes of hypnotic heavy rhythms and weird shit, an album that trolled me when I opened it by playing a music video while I was looking somewhere else (yeah I jumped), and they even managed to land a track for one week on the US hot 100! Again, Tool! On the hot 100! in 2019! Unbelievable. Are we starting to return to the good timeline? I certainly hope so.

Unelligible songs, now. The Search by NF would have topped this list super easily. Might be one of the songs I listened to the most in 2019, actually. Now That I Found You by Carly Rae Jepsen, again, should have been a hit, and I beg you to watch this music video if you’ve never seen it. The 1975 released the super unexpected People, which was still good, and also Frail State of Mind. And most unexpected of all, three artists I didn’t care about at all teamed up and made absolute gold: I Think I’m OKAY, by Machine Gun Kelly, YUNGBLUD and Travis Barker. That would have been the second slot on this list if it had been elligible. Or maybe the first, even? Not sure. I’m just so happy this kind of angry but uplifting music is starting to become popular again. I just love everything about this song.

Here’s a short list of honorable mentions!

Roi (Bilal Hassani) - I don’t like this song a lot, but I do like it, I’m glad it was our song for the ESC 2019, and Bilal is a very nice and endearing person, and everyone who disrespects him on twitter is free to come fight me in the pit, where I’m still waiting with that tambourine from my 1992 list.

Con Calma (Daddy Yankee, Katy Perry, Snow) - You already know I liked the original Informer a lot, so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t pleased to hear this clone of it on the radio.

Breathin’ (Ariana Grande) - Here’s the usual “if I had better taste this would be higher” honorable mention.

Summer Days (Martin Garrix) - In the absence of any new hit song from Macklemore this will do in a pinch.

Circles (Post Malone) - The fact that everyone seems to adore this and I’m over there saying “it’s ok I guess” probably means I will never love Post Malone nor understand the hype about him, and that’s okay, I can live with that.

The only semi-filler on the list. I still like it a lot. Don’t have anything to say about it, though.

9 - Panini (Lil Nas X)

US: #40 / FR: Not on the list

Wasn’t too impressed by this at first and it took a while to grow on me, but the chorus is a nice little earworm, and “hey panini, don’t you be a meanie” has a tendency to pop in my head when I read hateful comments on the internet now. And Lil Nas X is just too endearing to be ignored. We’re so lucky to have someone who became famous so quickly and instantly decided to dress like a Jojo character and have the geekiest music videos possible and still be super nice and humble. We don’t deserve this guy.

8 - Dance Monkey (Tones And I)

US: Not on the list / FR: #6

I’m super glad the US are finally getting on the hype train in 2020 because this is a ton of fun. If the voice was juuuuuust a little less grating this would be even higher. Impossible to get it out of your head and somehow in this case that’s a good thing.

7 - Dancing With a Stranger (Sam Smith & Normani)

US: #14 / FR: Not on the list

As I said in the honorable mentions, Sam Smith pulled a Viva La Vida and decided to stop making boring music all of a sudden and I couldn’t be happier about that. This song is still a bit too calm for my taste most of the time, but when I’m in the right mood, it’s just fantastic.

Again, I hope Sam Smith continues in that direction, because if you had told me a couple of years ago that I would start to like their stuff one day, I would have laughed out loud.

6 - Bad Guy (Billie Eilish)

US: #4 / FR: #16

Duh.

I’m not as enthusiastic about When The Party’s Over as a ton of people are, mostly because, well, it’s a slow emotional song with little to no colour in it and by now you’re already aware I tend to have next to zero interest in that kind of songs. Bad Guy, on the other hand, is half hilarious half scary in equal doses, and even if I’m not super fond of the weird outro, it’s still a fantastic, weird as shit song, and I’m really glad Billie Eilish exists. Can’t wait to see where she goes from there.

I’m super glad this song didn’t come out when I was a teenager myself though. Come to think of it, I’m not sure I would have survived if the musical landscape from 16 years ago had been as depressed as it currently is. Thank god music is slowly getting more energetic again in 2020. Let’s stay on that track.

5 - Hey Look Ma I Made It (Panic! At The Disco)

US: #61 / FR: Not on the list

I follow several music critics on youtube and over the course of 2019, I’ve seen undiluted vitriol and hatred against this song (Spectrum Pulse even made a list of his “worst hit songs” of the decade and put this one at #10! TEN!!). And... I don’t really get where it’s coming from? Maybe I’m too literal-minded to see what the problem is with a sarcastic song saying “look I sold out and now I found success again! And it’s not that great!”. I just think it’s a lot of fun. Thank god Todd put it on his best list, at least we can agree on one thing for once.

It is hilarious that after putting so many Fall Out Boy songs on my lists, the one that I love the most from Panic! is the sellout song. Not sure why this was huge while the even better Say Amen wasn’t, though.

4 - Sunflower (Swae Lee & Post Malone)

US: #2 / FR: Not on the list

I usually don’t get the “chill” songs that tend to be successful these days but this one, unlike most Post Malone songs (bar Circles), has lovely pastel colors and a cloudy texture and it’s a really good vibe. It took several months to grow on me but it sure did.

In about ten years, people will listen to Sunflower and be submerged by nostalgia, mark my words.

3 - Old Town Road (Lil Nas X)

US: #1 / FR: #1 (see, everyone agrees for once)

Everyone on the planet already wrote a thinkpiece about this song and yet I’ve only seen maybe one out of five mentioning, just in passing, that the entire song is based on a Nine Inch Nail track from Ghosts I-IV, superbly re-used to make a weird and insanely catchy country hip hop song out of it. Ghosts has been one of my go-to albums to listen to while I’m painting for about ten years now. I’m saying all this because hearing a track from Ghosts on the radio for months was absolute bliss for me, especially in a new and improved version.

Thank you Lil Nas X for everything you’ve been doing and I wish you a long and successful career. You deserve it. I love this and I love you.

2 - Bury A Friend (Billie Eilish)

US: #73 / FR: Not on the list

Hello again, Billie Eilish.

This song is absolutely terrifying and that was before I even saw the music video. This is the soundtrack of your nightmares right there. I’m not even sure it deserves to be so high on the list, but frankly I’m too terrified to care. Maybe Old Town Road should be higher. I don’t know.

Also you have to know that when I’m super tired I go into echolalia mode and automatically repeat words or entire sentences that my brain considers interesting, like “potiron” (pumpkin) or “dramatique” ; and recently, my brain decided “when we all fall asleep, where do we go?”, sung exactly like it’s sung in this song, was its new favorite sentence. So. Hearing yourself saying that to an empty room while you’re drawing or folding clothes or cleaning plates is not a very pleasant experience, and it makes this song extra scary to me.

And now, here’s the last #1 of the last one of these lists (for now), and I’m glad to announce it closes this series of posts in a super fitting way.

1 - Walk Me Home (Pink)

US: #99 / FR: Not on the list

Nobody seemed to care about this song over the course of 2019, and it's barely elligible, and I still have no idea why. The music reviewers I follow only either talked about it super briefly when it came out, or not at all. The rare ones who were making top 100s at the end of the year instead of top 10s usually put it somewhere in the middle of their lists. And yet it’s the elligible song I’ve listened to the most.

If you’ve been reading this series of posts for a while now, you probably already know exactly why it’s here, but here’s a quick recap.

The second album I ever bought in my life was Pink’s Missundaztood in 2002, and I loved her music a lot:

I was still really fond of her stuff in 2007:

Then she started to become less interesting and I basically ignored her apart from a brief blip on my radar in 2017:

Meanwhile, in 2012, fun. made some of the best songs of the entire decade before vanishing instantly, and I’ve been mourning them ever since:

And in the middle of last year, here I am, listening to the radio, and suddenly I hear something that sounds exactly like a fun. song, except I’ve never heard it before and it’s sung by a female singer, and, most importantly, it’s 2019 and fun. broke up more than six years earlier. And I’m like, what’s going on. This is so good. What the hell. What is this.

And I hear it a second time weeks later, and I google it, and I discovered that 1) it was Pink singing this, which made it my favorite Pink song in literally more than ten years, and 2) it was, indeed, written by one of the guys from fun., among other people who’s influence is less obvious.

I guess the main lesson from 2019, between newcomers making great music based on dead trends, old groups reforming, and this song, is that nothing’s gone forever, and things you used to enjoy can come back at the most unexpected time and in the most unexpected form.

There’s always, always gonna be new music to love, and it’s just a question of time.

And with this, these lists are over... for now.

I don’t regret making them even if they were a ton of work, because that was super useful for a lot of different reasons.

They helped me get a better understanding of my own life’s chronology. That may sound stupid but I tend to link events to the music I was listening to at the time, and putting all that music in chronological order helped a lot.

I rediscovered a ton of songs I had completely forgotten about, and a lot of new ones. My playlist is much richer now and I’m happy about that.

I also discovered a few artists I knew nothing about.

It forced me to analyse two depressive episodes in my life and just because everything was now in exact chronological order, it accidentally helped me pinpoint what caused both of them. Better and cheaper than therapy. Impressive.

It made me realise how important some bands and artists had been in my life, and I relistened to some of their catalogue while making these lists. For some it was really obvious (Indochine, Placebo, Mylène Farmer, My Chemical Romance among some others), and for some others (Moby, Linkin Park, Mika in particular), it was a real surprise.

It made me realise that Placebo might have been huge in France but weirdly enough not that huge in the UK nor in the US. It’s especially striking when you look at their wikipedia page in English then in French and realise how detailed the French one is compared to the English one. Can’t believe Sleeping With Ghosts was a n°1 album here and basically nowhere else. That was the band where that discrepency was the most obvious but it wasn’t the only one like that. Really puts stuff in perspective.

It also helped me realise how cyclical popular music is. 1) trends tend to die near the end of every decade and the worst year is usually somewhere between the 8th and the 9th year. 2008 and 2018 tend to confirm this. 2) For the same reason, some new & interesting stuff appears at the beginning of every decade, and reaches its high point of quality between the 2nd and 4th year of the decade. 3) Basically I’m saying we’ve now passed the lowest musical quality in recent memory and 2022-2023 will have some exceptional music.

See you in December 2020. I have no doubt there’s a ton of great music coming up in the near future.

· YUNGBLUD received his first gold certified single thanks to his collaboration with Halsey and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. “11 Minutes” is now certified gold in the United States, which is the same as saying the artist sold 500,000 units of it.

· Twenty One Pilots took “The Hype” and reworked it as their latest reimagined track from Trench. The band rented a studio in Berlin for one day and recorded the track as the latest edition to their “Location Sessions.”

· Twin Atlantic debuted their brand new track “Novocaine” and the announcement of their charged-up fourth LP, POWER. The song marks the first track from the forthcoming record, slated to debut January 24th, 2020 via Virgin EMI.

· Ice Nine Kills’ deluxe version of The Silver Scream titled The Silver Scream (FINAL CUT) releases October 25th, and includes a bonus track titled “Your Number’s Up.” The song is based on the horror classic Scream.

· Waterparks returned with a new video for their song “Easy to Hate” from their new record Fandom. The new video is directed by frontman Awsten Knight and marks his third video he’s directed for the band.

· Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump continues his descent into the world of movies and TV with psychological thriller Spell. He scored the upcoming film, and a first taste of what’s to come from it arrived with the song “Deep Blue Love.”

· Jimmy Eat World dropped a new video for the song “555,” off their latest album Surviving. The video is a science-fiction post-apocalyptic nightmare filled with clones and an evil galactic master played by frontman Jim Adkins.

· Bring Me the Horizon debuted their cinematic new visual for the song “In the Dark,” starring actor Forest Whitaker. Taking to Twitter last Friday, the band shared a clip with the caption “r u ready? Monday 21 October” showing a blurry close-up shot of Whitaker.

· Over the weekend, pop star Shakira put her own spin on a classic Green Day track by covering the band’s hit, “Basket Case.” Bassist Mike Dirnt commented “Bacano!” on the post, which is Colombian slang for “Cool!” Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong also chimed in adding, “I love this.”

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

· The Wonder Years recently kicked off their “Halloween Extravaganza” run, where the band performs two sets for fans every night. This year, the band is taking the stage dressed up as Limp Bizkit while performing some of the band’s hit tracks.

· Circa Survive announced a 10-year anniversary tour commemorating their 2010 album Blue Sky Noise. The band are set to hit the road in early March, taking to Twitter to reveal the run and also revealing a VIP ticket upgrade option.

· Bring Me the Horizon launched a new line of merch that has a color scheme based on your Spotify listening habits. On the band’s new site “amo in colour,” you can log in to your Spotify and pick your favorite six songs from their most recent album amo.

· Frank Iero spent the long weekend jamming out at a Post Malone show and sipping on customized Posty Bud Light. The rapper performed at Madison Square Garden in New York last Monday night.

· Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz launched his very own unisex jewelry and apparel line titled Ronin. Wentz announced the jewelry launch on social media, asking fans to tag him on Twitter and the Ronin page on Instagram with their purchases for a chance to get a little something extra.

· Making its debut in Salem, Massachusetts, “OuijaZilla” was unveiled on October 12th in Salem Common, where Ripley’s dubbed it the world’s largest ouija board. Rick “Ormortis” Schreck, a New Jersey-based tattoo artist, began constructing the massive spirit board in June of last year.

· Angels & Airwaves frontman, Tom DeLonge, announced To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science has a new partnership with the U.S. Army to collaborate on future research. This comes shortly after the organization ended up releasing three videos potentially showing UFOs.

· Yellowcard filed a lawsuit against emo rapper Juice WRLD for alleged similarities between their respective tracks. The disbanded group claimed the rapper’s 2018 mega-hit “Lucid Dreams” infringes on their “Holly Wood Died” released in 2006.

3) itzy -> GRR their songs are legit so good⁉️ they’re my fave girl group atm!! not shy, wannabe, icy, dalla dalla, and surf are some of my fave songs from them, they have a very peppy and upbeat vibe and a lot of their lyrics are about being yourself 😤 we stan!!

4) enhypen -> okay they haven’t debuted yet but they’re debuting on the 30th!! their iland performances are legit so good and the snippets from the teasers i’ve been seeing are telling me that their debut is going to be amazing <3

5) blackpink -> legit the only reason why i pretty much know their entire discography is because youtube is biased and puts their songs all over my feed 🙄‼️ but srsly everything they make is so catchy and gets stuck in my head (like lit rn pretty savage is playing in my head) lovesick girls, boombayah, whistle, and how you like that are all really good songs!!

6) seventeen, twice, red velvet -> okay i didn’t want this to be too long but i really enjoy some of their songs!! psycho and bad boy (red velvet), more & more and fancy (twice), and left & right and oh my! (seventeen) are all my faves. i still have to listen to more of their music but im definitely getting around to it <3

You used your headphones and enjoyed the time you spent on the kitchen, and you were so immerse in the tune and singing that you didn’t realize that Shownu arrived. He stood there for a minute, contemplating your passion, when he decided to pull one of your headphones out and join you.

Today was their free day and someone came up with the idea of going to a karaoke. Of course, your boyfriend was pretty much into the idea but you weren’t so sure about singing in front of all the amazing vocalists themselves.

At some point, everyone already sang a dong and you were the only one left to take the mic. All started cheering for you and Wonho offer himself to join you in the song. Your cheeks turned red and hot but this day had to come someday.

Wonho was the one to start the song and, when your turn came and they heard your voice, jaws were dropped. Wonho started laughing and hugging you, he couldn’t keep his eyes from your eyes the whole song.

How could you not be shy to sing in front of KIHYUN? Like, everytime he opened his mouth, your ears were blessed. His sweet but powerful voice soothed you no matter what.

Today, your friend blackmailed you, threating you to send him that video you cringe so hard with, when you took part on the musical of your high school. You had no choice to give in.

Kihyun tried again and asked you to sing this new song you both really like. When you accepted, his eyes were wide but sparkling. And then you started...

You all went out that night, and you have to admit that you drank a little too much. You came back to the apartment but the mood was still up and no one wanted to go to bed yet.

Kihyun opened his mouth and started annoying Hyungwon with his vocal warming. He know it brings him on his nerves. Now he was singing Lost In The Dream when Hyungwon shouted jokingly, making him shut up. But you continued to sing the rest of the chorus.

Jooheon looked at you the whole time with a very surprised and amazed expression, listening carefully. When you finished, you realized what you did and wanted to hide yourself forever. Honey took your hands and shouted.

“Since when!!!!??? Why didn’t you tell me anything!? I LOVE YOU!!?”

Minhyuk can’t stay quiet and calm for a long time and that day you decided to stay in. You watched a whole entire movie and you kept watching the TV, that was too much for him.

“Let’s play truth or dare!”

You laughed and nodded. It was his turn first and he chose truth, so you asked him what was the thing he liked the most about you and he said your voice. It was your turn now, and to make things more interesting, you chose dare.

He asked you to sing for him, you wasn’t expecting that even though it was pretty much obvious. You took a deep breath and tried to erase your nervousness. Then you proceeded and he listened so carefully, resting his face on his hands and smiling softly.

You wanted to do something different today, so you decided to take the car and drive to a place you have never visited. Just being with Hyungwon was enough for you, so you enjoyed the journey.

He started singing one of the songs you liked the most, just to watch you dance around. You couldn’t help it but sing along as well.

At some point, Changkyun kept silent in his amusement, listening to you carefully and hiding behind the door frame. When you finished, he peeked out and met your gaze.

Fannar Playlist Breakdown

idk, I’m procrastinating so I’m gonna explain all the songs on the Fannar playlist

Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin basically my inspirations are showing here, Fannar’s original concept was ‘Well the MCU writers can do whatever the fuck they want with Loki so so can I’ so I pulled this one from the Thor: Ragnarok soundtrack, on a lesser note “We come from the land of the ice and snow/From the midnight sun, where the hot springs flow/The hammer of the gods/W'ell drive our ships to new lands/To fight the horde, and sing and cry/Valhalla, I am coming!” and he’s literally from a place called The Frozen North

Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen The only family member whose opinion matters to Fannar anymore is his mom. There’s also just the general level of dramatic thinking that happens when grievously injured and believing you’re about to die. “Mama, ooh,/Didn't mean to make you cry,/If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,” is probably about what he was thinking when he was

Bleeding Out, Imagine Dragons bleeding out at the bottom of an abyss, back mangled and painfully aware that he was about to die, a Fannar backstory jam, this one lines up with when Fannar made his warlock pact with Auril

Monster, Lady Gaga He just vibes with this one, I think Fannar would fucking love this song

Fox on the Run, Sweet OH MAN, this works on multiple counts. Fannar starts off the campaign as a ‘fox on the run’ bc he’s like, a trickster running away, avoiding home, ALSO “I - don't wanna know your name/'Cause you don't look the same/The way you did before/Okay - you think you got a pretty face/But the rest of you is out of place/You looked alright before” works super well bc Fannar literally grew up with a different face, and he lost it bc of backstory so this would be a random person from The Frozen North talking about him.

Surrender, Cheap Trick I don’t know, I think I just got Fannar vibes from it? A family with a really weird, vaguely dysfunctional dynamic? The parents have weird pasts and that’s reflected in the kids? Yeah, that checks out.

Dead and Gone, The Black Keys Early in his pact Fannar, still presumed dead by anyone who’d previously known him, and at his patron’s beck and call “So long/Why you waiting so long?/After every single word is said/I'm feeling dead and gone”

Sinister Kid, The Black Keys Fannar, especially early on, was wildly, blatantly self-destructive, not even trying to hide it. “A sinister kid is a kid who/Runs to meet his maker/A drop dead sprint from the day he's born/Straight into his maker's arms/And that's me, that's me/The boy with the broken halo/That's me, that's me/The devil won't let me be”

The Kids From Yesterday, My Chemical Romance idk, I don’t remember why I originally added this one. But it’s probably just some Fannar-reflecting-on-his-past from time to time

Sleep, My Chemical Romance Admittedly, Fannar’s done some pretty shitty things, but he’s a lot harder on himself than anyone else is, “Undeserving of your sympathy 'Cause there ain't no way that I'm sorry for what I did” so it’s easier to just own it and revel in the idea that he’s a bad person who isn’t sorry than admit to anything.

Once Upon a December, Liz Callaway (Anastasia) BACKSTORY JAM!!!!!! This is like,,,,baby Fannar, his present self is so detached from who he was as a small child that that whole part of his life doesn’t really feel real. He knows it happened, but it’s such a 180 he can’t properly wrap his head around it.

One Way Or Another, Blondie Early on in the campaign he was being tracked down by someone, who later turned out to be his Nana Frostyears (his childhood governess, i guess i’ll call her a governess), tracking him down to bring him home to save the kingdom

Unknown Brother, The Black Keys This is more from his brother Orvar’s perspective, Orvar trying to wrap his head around what happened to his baby brother Fannar as an outsider looking in. “Though I never met you/And we spoke not a word/I'll never forget you/Through stories that I have heard/For you unknown brother/My baby's mother's pained/Because your soul is in heaven/But your memory remains”

Death By Glamour, Toby Fox The ranger (Isorropia) and the druid/DM1 (Thrain) were talking about Fannar amongst themselves and decided that it fit him and I was inclined to agree.

Don’t Stop Me Now, Queen Fannar, a few years post-backstory, come into himself, still an impulsive bastard but he’s having fun now.

Dinner & Diatribes, Hozier Look, I’m sorry but a lot of songs are gonna be on here bc they’re horny and this is one of them. hi bby!! My day is actually going pretty good so far!! 💕 I had a morning class (and it’s my first Friday class since my first semester of college so it’s weird having to get up earlier on Friday’s again) but it’s an interesting class so far so I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester 💫 ohh listening to bts music is always a great idea 💖 oh god I have so many favorite bts songs because everything they do is just amazing, but I’ll try to narrow down my list: path, no more dream, where you from, spine breaker, tomorrow, all the cyphers (but especially pt. 3), second grade, rain, dope, baepsae, dead leaves, whalien 52, run, save me, ma city, outro:her, outro:tear, serendipity, pied piper, anpanman, airplane pt.2, blood sweat and tears, spring day, love is not over, fake love, paradise, magic shop, home, mikrokosmos, make it right, euphoria, trivia: love, seesaw, black swan, interlude shadow and I’ll leave it at that bforw I just type out their entire discography 😅 also I didn’t include rapline a mixtape or any solo work because then the list would be even longer, but just know I love them all 💜💞✨ besides bts I don’t really listen to a lot of artists in their entirety, I mainly just listen to individual songs by other artists. Kpop wise I listen to sunmi a lot (she’s the only artist besides bts who I tend to keep up with and I love every song she’s put out), and besides her I listen mainly to a few songs by red velvet, Loona, and then a little bit of some other groups but that’s it. Bts just takes up so much of my heart so it’s hard for me to really get into other groups. it was a blustery october day when helen coyne doubled over in the park across the street from her house. she was meeting her boyfriend, edward lovington, and they had plans to get milkshakes and go to the movies. instead she was rushed to the hospital under suspicion of a burst appendix, only to give birth to a healthy baby boy some minutes later. this phenomenon would later be known to be the moment that 43 women around the world delivered babies without ever having been pregnant. each child would have abilities beyond comprehension and some would go on to become students at the umbrella academy. jax would not enjoy such a fate.

helen’s parents were extremely religious. she and her boyfriend had pledged their chastity under the belief that they would be married come the summer and he believed her to have broken that vow. he ended things with her and her family turned their backs on her. only her brother kept in contact, allowing her and the baby to move into his guest house until they could get back onto their feet. he was named jackson edward, after his maternal grandfather and his mother’s former love. jax never met either man but had heard the story from his mother as he grew up. to this day he doesn’t know why helen decided to keep him; why he wasn’t given up for adoption as a baby, or abandoned at the hospital on the day he was born.

desperate for love and looking in the wrong places, helen suffered a string of abusive and controlling men. it was a circle of abuse that she seemed caught in, believing to her core that she deserved it because god had punished her. this continued until jax was five, when her latest boyfriend scratched her face. the cuts welled up - the first time a boyfriend had drawn blood in jax’s presence - but to everyone’s dismay, the wound coagulated and the blood disappeared, back where it came from. her boyfriend would have killed them both - afraid of what he’d seen when jax yelled at him to stop - but his eyes ran red as the blood inside his body boiled and cooked him from the inside out. the sound of his body hitting the floor was drowned out by helen’s screams. jax was abandoned at a local orphanage days later, his mother unable to look at him as she believed he was a monster.

maine isn’t a big city. the area they were in was extremely small, so whispers of what had happened to helen’s boyfriend ran rampant. jax was branded a freak, kept in isolation at the orphanage in fear of what he’d do to the other children. he didn’t understand his powers yet and believed what his mother said was true; that he was a monster and that he deserved whatever happened to him as a consequence of it. he withdrew into himself and was selectively mute until his teen years, bouncing from foster home to foster home as he grew. it was only when he was 13, now exploring his powers with a morbid curiosity he would later attribute to scientific hypothesis, that he started speaking again.

jax grew up very isolated and socially awkward. he doesn’t always know how to talk to people or how to appropriately react in certain situations. he’s very morbid, has a dark sense of humor, and has a lot of questionable interests. his music taste is skewed towards screamo / emo music and heavy metal. he prefers horror movies to essentially every other genre and spends hours listening to true crime podcasts and lives on CSI / Criminal Minds / SVU etc. his favorite bands are my chemical romance, the used, saosin, underoath, black veil brides, and disturbed.

academically, jax is kind of a genius. he didn’t really have friends so he spent a lot of time studying. he finds biology interesting because his own biology fascinates him. he can control blood; can make it coagulate, raise his own blood pressure, and even create it from his own cells. it doesn’t make sense. it doesn’t fit into what he knows about the human condition and that fascinates him. experimenting on himself has become second nature and he covered up the majority of the scarring with tattoos. the only friend he ever had showed him how to do some of it himself as a teenager and he’s kept up with the hobby - buying cheap supplies online or cutting corners to keep up with the artwork decorating his body.

with two degrees under his bet, jax is swimming in debt. honestly his checking account is a terrifying place to live. he’s been low-key indulging in credit card scams for years to keep his head above water. he has a ledger where he’s written down every card, every loan, and every payment he needs to pay back. it’s locked in a safe so no one can ever find it. as a forensic pathologist he’ll make good money and hopefully be able to pay it all back before the cops come knocking down his door.
