Thoughts on The Bad Batch's "Superiority Complex"

(Bear with me -- I wrote this on my phone)

Someone brought up that the Bad Batch were the aggressors in their first fight with Kix and Jesse, and I've seen that take elsewhere too. These are just my thoughts on that...

I think that an important piece of this "the Batchers and the regs" puzzle (other than Crosshair, the snark, just naturally being more caustic than the others) is how being defective is addressed earlier in the Clone Wars and in the series as a whole. 

Krell basically uses "Are you defective?" as a threat at Umbara. Bric (trainer for Domino Squad) is openly ridiculing and abusive, going so far as to punch a cadet he thought wasn't good enough and saying things like "Even this bad batcher would be better than you" as a very demeaning thing. Even 99 realized how demeaning it was because he protested that the Dominoes were better than that. We also see with the Fives-chip arc, etc, that the Kaminoans are not the nicest beings to their “creations.” The trainers weren't either (see Dred Priest and again, Bric and Company).

Their "special project" status makes it very likely that the Kaminoans did experiment on or test the batchers in different ways than they would have done with the regs. The Batch very probably was confronted with their differences, what were seen as faults and flaws even as they were made into a commando squad, every moment of their lives. That not only has the potential to hurt the four of them and make them more likely to have a chip on their shoulders, but it also may have gotten around as rumors on Kamino. Also, Rex and the other 501st members we see with the Batchers haven't been on Kamino for a while, so the treatment from regs might have gotten worse as the Batchers had to interact with other units in training.

All that to say, the Bad Batch very likely experienced far worse than what we hear or see on screen, from trainers and their creators as well as other clones. They have (in all likelihood) existed on the edge of decommissioning for their entire lives, always having to prove that they were good enough to excuse their genetic faults. All four of them display a sort of hard confidence that indicates they know they’re the best because they had to be. While others passed the tests, they had to break records. They were pushed to excel the average just to prove their worth, to confirm that they deserved to live. 

This is another reason I prefer reading the Star Wars books and comics to watching the animated shows, in all honesty. The two versions of Quinlan Vos – animated and written – is a great example of the disconnect between (obviously, the best that could be expected from) an animated “kids” show and what I think is a better representation of what the war was actually like.

P.S. This is also why I HC that 99 was deeply involved with the Batch, because I honestly feel they would have a worse complex if they hadn’t had him to guide them how he could.

i'm making myself laugh thinking about this but I wholeheartedly believe madame morrible absolutely HATES the thought of glinda and elphaba being together like the mere mention of gelphie would probably send her into immediate cardiac arrest and it's not even because she's homophobic or anything I just fully believe she dislikes glinda so so much she's just like this is absolutely NOT happening in my house.

glinda and elphaba are having their gay ass moment and she's like "I sense a disturbance in the force; the wind is telling me those fucking lesbians are at it again."

like IK this woman hates to see glinda's fruity ass coming for several reasons but first and foremost I believe it's because she's so fucking ANNOYED by how much elphaba loves and cares for her, like this pink bitch is throwing a wrench in her plans just by EXISTING and being herself.

and she can't even really do anything to glinda because it'll make elphaba upset and she really can't have that so she just has to sit there and be like

interesting how fords been surrounded by triangles his entire life. looks like ford and bill were always doomed to meet each other

ford did seem to think that he is destined to be in gravity falls, destined to be part of greater things, and bill also thought he was "destined for so much more"

i think at some point bill really thought ford was the one that UNDERSTOOD him (well, ford did think "why did rudolph not simply kill the other reindeer? he shouldve burned his workshop to the ground"). some of his henchmaniacs didnt seem to actually like bill at all

quick edit for something ive found:

this is from "dreamscaperers", and apparently ford had been dreaming about the cipher wheel for weeks before he even found the cave. enough times that he was even able to perfectly draw the wheel on the journal. bill didnt even know about ford yet.

There’s a new drug in Gotham making the rounds, one synthesized by Two-Face’s people; if you take it you will have a 50/50 chance that you’ll experience the greatest high of your life or that you’ll die.

Batman is desperately trying to find the main lab and cut off the production from the source and hasn’t been able to find a lead in weeks.

That’s when Gordon gives him a file that was given to him by a “white haired ghost kid”. It’s a detailed report written similarly to a scientific journal with detailed sources that are mainly first hand accounts from deceased victims of the Two-Face drug.

At the very end of the paper there’s an address to a Gotham University dorm room with a sticky note next to it that says “if you need help with death or the undead. Yours truly; Danny Fenton.”

listen i love timber(n) and i fully believe that, as an actually CANON mlm ship, they deserve more support and appreciation than they’ve gotten. i also think that timberkon is a great way to put some respect on bernard’s name while also embracing the timkon subtext that dc has been feeding us for years.

that being said, though—the idea of tim being in a situationship with both kon and bernard only for kon and bernard to cut out the middle man and just start dating each other is SO funny to me. like:
