I had to drive out to try and find a cafe with wifi to do my morning work, couldn't find any, ended up using my phone as a mobile hotspot to use my laptop in a parking lot
Was on the phone with the LAST hotel within 100 miles with ONE ROOM left when Ferry said power's back 💀

The HVAC guy finally called, furious. The part did not arrive today like it was supposed to. The guy is angry. My husband is angry. We are all still miserable. We survived the day, somehow.
I almost fainted in the living room a few hours ago. Idk how I even stayed conscious. Tachycardia has been a bitch even with my heart meds again.
That part has GOT to arrive tomorrow....

The Day From Hell
I made a reservation at another motel and paid for it online on Tuesday. Today, we went through hell packing up without any help from Dave and made our way to the other motel. Mind you, it's in the 90s which means it's over 100 in the van. NO AC!!
My 16 yr old drove the van. The very same van that needs a new rack and pinion. The very same van has a wheel that is too hard to turn. It's like not having power steering.
The kid did great. Plus she busted her butt to get us packed and moved. She's also a great driver.
So we get to the other place and they claim we stole 3 pillows. I know I sure as hell didn't and neither did @helly-watermelonsmellinfellon. I bring a huge pile of m own pillows everywhere I go. They initially wanted to charge me $30 for them. Then they decided we couldn't stay there and they wouldn't refund me my money. @helly-watermelonsmellinfellon went in and spoke with the manager. Apparently, Dave walked out with 3 pillows. So again, Dave's dumb ass screwed us over.
Eventually, I called and got the refund but it takes 7-10 days to go through. Meanwhile, we are cooking in the van with no place to go. And now we really have no money.
My youngest called her brother and he sent us money via Cash App so we can get out of the heat. So we are in a different place on the 3rd floor. I am disabled. You have no idea what I went through to get to the room.
The ac isn't working and my cane is slipping all over the floor, so now I'm scared of falling again. At least we are not stuck in the direct heat.
We are homeless with no hope in sight of that ending any time soon. We are already down and dealing with depression. Why do we constantly get kicked while we are down? Life isn't fair but I have been dealing with nonstop bull sh*t since 2015. I'm fed up. I'm tired. I don't know how much more I can take.
My youngest is the real hero of today. Even her bf came to help. I'm just so tired of all the crap getting shoveled on top of us.

Some extra tips for the crowd with no ac:
At night, get as much cool air (or like not-boiling air) into your house as you can. At around 10am, SHUT ALL YOUR WINDOWS, draw your curtains, etc. I know the breeze feels good but it’s pulling heat into your house. Reopen windows at around 5-6pm, and get the cooler air. This will feel absurd but trust me it works.
Fans going in a closed environment are adding heat to the room. They help ur sweat evaporate and cool you down if pointed at you, but turn them off when you leave the room.
Put a bowl of ice water behind a table fan and sit in front of it, it will cool you off. (Be warned this does increase humidity slightly)
To sleep, if you are in a house go to the lowest floor. It will be cooler and easier to sleep there. Balconies are also good for this if they are safe!
You can put your sheet in the freezer and then wrap it around you! Don’t do this if you are really overheated bc it can make your body flip out a bit at temperature change.
Fill a tub with cold water and dunk in it every so often. My grandmother once told me when she was a kid they’d have one person in the apartment building fill a tub with ice and everyone would come over for a “tub party”. That seems kind of gross to me but you do you ig?
Make yourself drink water. Eat food if you can but if you feel funky, don’t. The heat can mess with your digestive system, and if you get diarrhea you are losing even more water. However if you can’t eat be sure to drink something with electrolytes! You need that salt and sugar.
Dresses are the best to wear in the heat. Long light dresses save you from sun and are cool and make a little breeze around your legs when you walk! I hate dresses for gender reasons but they are the superior hot weather clothing.
COOLING CENTERS: check your local ymca, library, senior center, etc to see if it’s acting as a cooling center. If so, you can go there to cool off or, if you wfh, do your work in the cool there. They often have juice and water and stuff as well! Some places also have programs that can drive vulnerable people who can’t drive to cooling centers, so see if that’s the case for your area.
Also, if you do have AC: please please please make sure to keep up with your localities messages about electrical use! If you have an older grid, the extreme ac use from heatwaves can shut it down and cause blackouts. These frequently kill people. Please only air condition rooms you are in, and don’t set the temp below 70. If your locality says to set your AC to 80 it’s not because they hate you it’s because they are trying to keep the power on in the hospitals.
For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."
This one is for you.
Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.
Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.
First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.
If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.
If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.
Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).
If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.
Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.
Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.
If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.
Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.
I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.
Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!
If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt
If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house
If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.
If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.
Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat
-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.
-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.
-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.
Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.
Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.
Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.
Frozen fruit is delicious in water.
Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.
Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!
Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

Image Description provided by @loveize
[Image description: an infographic showing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The graphic is labeled "Heat Dangers: First Warning." Signs of heat exhaustion: faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, pale, clammy skin, rapid, weak pulse, muscle cramps. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat exhaustion, get to a cool, air-conditioned place, drink water if conscious, and take a cool shower or use cold compress. Signs of heat stroke: throbbing headache, no sweating, red, hot, dry skin, rapid, strong pulse, may lose consciousness. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat stroke, call 911. End description]
Be safe.

Remember to make space for the heteros this month too - yes, really.
Lesbians who became straight men
Gay men who became straight women
All straight drag artists (note that not all of them are cis!)
People with complex identities who thusly encompass multiple orientations (like genderfluid and multigender people who, yes, are sometimes straight, or even simultaneously with other labels)
Hetero aro and ace people. Especially. Seriously.
People with fluid orientations
Gnc people who find joy in their straightness
Many queer people are also straight. Queerness is note solely reliant on gayness. These people too, are a part of pride. Remember that.
[All discourse attempts will be swiftly blocked. Exclusionists fuck off]
