Workin Boys was literally the only thing that saved Hidgens from being flanderized beyond recognition
(Spoilers for Workin' Boys)
So what I think a lot of people don't give much thought to is how much Professor Hidgens as a character has evolved since tgwdlm, essentially becoming a parody of himself.
Think of Hidgens as a character. What are his defining traits?
Did you think about how he is a doomsday prepper who has been stockpiling supplies for 20 years? Because that's how he's introduced in Guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did you try think about how he has a weird relationship with his Alexa? Or did we forget about that?
Tumblr media
In fact, for the majority of TGWDLM, Hidgens' main character trait is that he says weird shit with a Doc Brown voice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole concept of Workin Boys isn't even introduced until the last half hour of the show. That's where he reveals his real motivation: to live out the musical he wrote as a young man.
Actually, no, that's not right. Because his motivation was world peace, and Workin Boy's was just a convenient means to that end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I won't disregard the fact that Hidgens clearly has an emotional connection to the show, but in Guy, it serves as a punchline rather than a driving force.
So now we have this lovely, morally-grey, multi-layered character that we can work with.
By the time we get to Time Bastard, the fandom is expecting a show stopping number reference, so of course we get that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But at this point, Hidge is still that multi-layered character. Sure, showstopping number gets a callback, but we also get a callback to his strange relationship with robots. They make up an equal part of him as a character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time we get to Honey Queen, we have lost several aspects of Hidgens altogether. He is no longer a doomsday-believing recluse. He is now active in the community and his only motivation is to get his show funded. He brings it up at every chance he gets, and his loyalties lie with whoever is more likely to make Workin Boys happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So how the hell do we come back from this?
Well, at first it seems like we're not going to. Workin' Boys (the short film) comes out, and it looks like we're leaning even harder into this aspect of his personality than before. But then we get hit with something we're not expecting: Hidge gets the Ted Spankoffski treatment.
I'm referring to Ted's backstory in Time Bastard, where we learn that all of his actions actually stem from a single, traumatic moment, which in his eyes forced him to alter his behaviour, so as to not go through the same trauma again.
Can you see where I'm going with this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The backstory we get from Hidgens certainly puts things in perspective. No, it's not enough to explain why his behaviour has been so laser-focused on this one show, but it's a start.
Then comes the part that changes everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's left up to interpretation whether these ghosts Hidge is seeing are actually there, or just hallucinations, but that doesn't really matter.
Hidgens had been through a horrible experience, so traumatizing that he is still literally being haunted by it decades later. For one reason or another, he believes that the only way he can relieve himself of these ghosts is by bringing honor to the loved ones he's lost and telling their stories.
This reveal recontextualizes everything we know about Hidgens as a character. Suddenly, this isn't a story about some guy who just really wants to put on his musical, this is a story about guilt. Of course it would be the driving factor in his life. Look at him apologizing to his boys. He feels like he is slandering their memories with everything that goes wrong for the show.
This is supported even more with the ending.
Tumblr media
Henry Hidgens dies with a smile on his face, believing he's finally achieved his goal: to tell the real story of what happened that night.
It finally makes sense as to why we've lost those parts of him--we've retconned the character by revealing that all that simplification of his goals and traits wasn't flanderization at all, but a steady downward spiral of grief over his loved ones. It wasn't Hidgens getting a little too into being a playwrite, it was him descending into madness caused by the inability to please the part of himself (or the literal ghosts, if that's how you interpret it) that believes he's not doing enough.
And if not for Workin' Boys, he would have remained that one-dimensional character.

finally sharing my nibbly devotee grace/nibbly and grace duo propaganda
i've always thought that grace, post-npmd would work with + harness the power of nibbly more than the other lords in black, and i need other people to understand why
devouring souls:
nibbly and grace both specifically talk about devouring souls. in 'dirty dudes must die' grace starts by saying "this spell lets me devour your soul" + throughout 'the summoning' nibbly talks about wanting to eat/swallow max's soul. I thought this was very interesting because it's mentioned before that nibbly is the only lord who eats souls/eats his victims, so grace using that phrasing was an immediate link.
parallels/symbolism:
grace's main story arc throughout npmd is about her lust and desires. her name is literally just 'chastity' with one letter removed, and she's obviously fighting against having or showing any sort of desire. now, this might not SEEM like it has anything to do with nibbly, but hunger and lust are very symbolically linked, especially in christianity. roman murray mentions (in 'honey queen') that nibbly prefers sacrifices of people who were hungry, not for food, but for anything. power, fame, love, sex, respect, etc. i imagine his disciples and devotees would have a similar hunger, and grace is obviously hungry. nibbly being basically a creature of pure desire also is a perfect opposite to grace being a symbol for chastity, but grace working with nibbly would be a good representation of her giving in to her desire through her story arc.
also i think they would be a fun duo and grace already wears a lot of pink :) thank u for reading

i just finished watching 'daddy' and wow was it unhinged. however, as much as i enjoyed the plot of it itself, i couldn't stop noticing the parallels to 'hey melissa'.
it begins with a character going about their everyday life, interacting with work colleagues. then, the antagonist is introduced, and they want to date the focus character. this quickly spirals into something horrifying. paul is kidnapped and kept locked in melissa's apartment. he's forced to act like something he's not. she tasers and demeans him. he isn't allowed to leave. meanwhile, frank is kidnapped and kept locked in a dungeon after he tries to run away. he's forced to act like something he's not. sheila locks frank out of the house in a storm, then sends marco after him when frank attempts to leave and she tries to kill him. he isn't allowed to leave. paul encounters ted while locked away. ted is murdered during their captivity. frank encounters barry while locked away. barry dies of an untreated wound caused by their captor during their captivity. bill enters melissa's apartment, unknowing of the horrors within, and she tries to kill him. daddy's ted enters sheila's mansion, unknowing of the horrors within, and she does kill him. melissa and sheila are both openly referred to as young and attractive. paul and frank both had pet dogs that died. ted and barry were both the first to get caught up in their respective tormentors' plots and died as a result. even down to the creepy "daddy"/"puss" themes. the ending of hey melissa is paul going back to her due to his stockholm syndrome and continuing to be treated like a cat. the ending of daddy is frank being stuck with sherman, who says he'll be his daddy "for ever and ever and ever-". so on and so forth. now, consider the fact that melissa didn't have any external influences from demons. she wasn't stealing the lives of hundreds with the help of the black book and the lords in black. she wasn't supernaturally old or with any lore-related backstory. melissa was just like that. i'm not sure which one freaks me out more.

TIME BASTARD LYRIC OVER ANALYZATION
For boredom’s sake!
Let’s do this:
Singer: (Ghost!?)Jenny
Subject: Ted Spankoffski AND TINKY??
Tumblr media
Jenny loves Ted… the younger Ted, not who he has become. He is both far from her temporally and emotionally. He has become someone she no longer knows. A bastard. Who time travels.
Tumblr media
Ted is no longer playing the love game. He is playing the, as Richie would say, ~hit it and quit it, bro~ game. He’s a womanizer without shame. But he still thinks he can fix himself and be the kinda person he thinks Jenny wanted to make up for losing her.
Tumblr media
It’s Ted’s destiny to lose Jenny, become a dick, and die in every timeline. She wants nothing to do with him.
Tumblr media
NOW! Here is where I think Jenny starts referring to another person. A. Ted is not a criminal mastermind of any kind. He literally stumbles into another timeline. Who IS the mastermind of this misadventure? TINKY. 2. Even if “you” refers to Ted, why then switch to “the bastard” instead of “you bastard” again. This is a third person address. Another - tinky. He’s the one with the time to fall, Ted has already lost all control over his own timeline. Now it’s THE BASTARD OF ACTUAL TIME AND SPACE’s adventure (also, I would like to point out I think the term “bastard” in T’noy Karaxis’ title actually refers to him being a product of these two forces)
Tumblr media
There’s two of them. Two Ted’s - younger and elder. And two bastards.
Now, Idk what “I followed once or twice” means at all in this sequence of events or in Jenny’s story. If someone has an idea please enlighten me.
Tumblr media
OKAY! SO if this section is about Ted than 1. The student is either Ted’s younger self become a douche and ruining Ted’s chances at a good life, or 2. Jenny, the student, his beloved, dying. OR 3. What if… hear me out… Pete is the only crack in Tinky’s armor. Tinky wants both of them SO BAD but only one! (1)! Ever joins the box. Tinky’s weakness IS THE OTHER SPANKOFFSKI!
Tumblr media
Finally. Someone said on Genius lyrics that the first line here references Jenny’s letter. Maybe because she signed it “forever and always”. Ted thinks she wants to erase him from her life and leave him forever but he doesn’t know that truth. She loves him no matter what, she doesn’t need to know where he has been (aka what he has been up to all these years, all the bad things he’s done since they knew each other) she just wants to know what TIME he is in. Not what he has done, but what has happened TO HIM. What IS HAPPENING to him.
They’re the only Hatchetfield couple we’ve seen truly FATED TO BE APART. Jenny died in 2004, aka very likely before the timelines split. She dies right in front of him. In every timeline. And it breaks him apart.

i reaaally like max and jon matteson characters and they're some of my faves but a lot of the fandom acts so hostile towards fans of them even though im fans of so many other characters and parts of hatchetfield. i just enjoy them too
I'm sorry ppl have acted hostile to you over something that benign.
I think, and this is a thinking trap I myself have fallen into, once npmd came out on YouTube there was a sort of split in the fandom between people who were already there and people from the bmc, heathers, etc fandoms who got into Hatchetfield after npmd.
For a large chunk of its lifespan, the Hatchetfield fandom was very different from fandoms I'd been in prior. It was small, fans were generally older than the ones you might find in fandoms I'd previously been in (like Undertale or Hamilton). It was also not very focused on ship dynamics and such. The fandom of course had their darlings, Paulkins has been my otp for 5 years and generally people were pretty enthusiastic about the canon couples. But there was a bigger focus I think on the stories and theory making. We had 1 Big non canon ship and even then it died out once nmt s1 came out (RIP Tedgens)
And as someone who was in that older version of the fandom for so long, I've never quite warmed up to the way it is now. I don't know how I feel about the sudden massive prevalence of shipping. It's harder to find gen fics on ao3 now and harder to find people crafting theories or writing analysis. It feels more crowded and it's weird to me.
But the thinking trap is searching for people to blame. A lot of people who like Max and Jon Matteson's characters are newer Hatchetfield fans, and so they can be easily stereotyped as the people who changed things. Max fans especially are assumed to woobify his character, but I'm friends with lots of smart Max fans. Hell, I also really like his character.
In the end, you can't blame individual people for the way things have changed, or assume their literacy from what characters they like. It just Happened, and those are just the Characters they Like.

CS 224n: Assignment #4
This assignment is split into two sections: Neural Machine Translation with RNNs and Analyzing NMT Systems. The rst is primarily coding and implementation focused, whereas the second entirely consists of written, analysis questions. If you get stuck on the rst section, you can always work on the second as the two sections are independent of each other. Note that the NMT system is more complicated…

Decoding the Global Machine Translation Market
So, you stumbled upon this fascinating report on the Global Machine Translation (MT) Market, and you’re probably wondering, “How on earth can I make sense of all these numbers and acronyms without falling into a deep, AI-induced slumber?” Well, fear not! We’re here to break it down for you in a casual, no-nonsense chat that even your coffee break buddy can understand.
Tumblr media
The Big Picture
Theglobal MT market seems to be on a wild ride, growing from a cool USD 861 million in 2021 to a projected USD 2693.98 million by 2030. That’s like going from a cozy local diner to dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant, but for machines. The growth rate? A not-so-shabby 5.52%, making it a steady climber in the business world.
The Tech Talk
Let’s get nerdy for a moment and dive into the technology behind it. There are two big players here: Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) and Neural Machine Translation (NMT). SMT is like the wise grandparent, considering entire phrases and sentences for that perfect translation. Meanwhile, NMT is the cool, self-learning teenager adapting to diverse languages and industry jargon. Guess who’s stealing the spotlight? NMT, obviously!
Applications in the Real World
Now, where does this MT magic happen? Think of it like a multitalented friend — it’s everywhere! From automotive to healthcare, e-commerce to legal, and IT & telecommunications, MT is the go-to buddy for various applications. E-commerce, in particular, is the popular kid in the MT playground, with its need for multilingual support in product descriptions and user interfaces.
Regional Rollercoaster
Picture this: North America as the tech-savvy neighborhood, dominating the MT market due to its fancy technological infrastructure. On the other side of the globe, Asia-Pacific is the rising star, fueled by digital transformation and a hunger for effective language solutions. The machines are getting a global tour!
For More Information: https://www.skyquestt.com/report/machine-translation-market
Driving Forces and Roadblocks
What’s pushing this MT market forward? Advancements in NMT technology, real-time translations, and the global need for cross-border communication. But, of course, every success story has its challenges. Achieving high fluency, especially in specialized domains, and privacy concerns are the villains trying to slow things down.
Meet the Players
Now, let’s talk about the cool kids on the block. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM — these are not just your everyday tech giants. They are the rockstars of the MT world, investing in cutting-edge technologies and dancing the dance of innovation. Startups? They’re the rising stars, introducing niche solutions and keeping the giants on their toes.
Recent Drama and Gossip
In the world of MT, there’s always drama and gossip. Intento and e2f joined forces for a comprehensive analysis of the MT and Generative AI market. Lionbridge, ever the visionary, predicts a new paradigm shift with Generative AI and Large Language Models. It’s like the MTV of the tech world!
Wrapping It Up
In a nutshell, the global MT market is not just about numbers and graphs; it’s a dynamic playground with tech giants, startups, drama, and growth trends. So, the next time someone talks about Machine Translation, you can casually join the conversation and say, “Oh, I know a thing or two about that. It’s like having a multilingual best friend for your business!”

You think Jane's a Car was bad for you? Imagine it from Becky's perspective.
For the first time in a long time, Becky feels safe. Stanley is dead, she's reconnected with her highschool sweetheart, and now he's even introducing her to his kid.
She runs into Tom at the book store, tries to be cute, but he's not having it. Okay, that's fine, everyone has their off days. And he's researching hearing voices?? A little weird, but okay...
Then Tom shows up at her house. As he rambles about things that don't make sense. But that's not what's scary. He starts talking about his dead wife—wait, did he dig up his wife's corpse? He says his dead wife wants him to kill people, that he almost killed someone today.
And even though she killed him, it's like Stanley's still here. Becky can see it, that same crazed look in Tom's eye. Terrified, she smiles and nods, humouring him. This is the same Tom she loves and trusts. He is the one, she's known it since highschool. Only now he's talking about killing her, and she realizes that the man she trusted is having a psychotic breakdown in her living room.
He storms off, and Becky follows him outside. But he's already in the car, and with complete horror, Becky realizes he's about to run her down.
She won't die. Not after everything's she's lived through. She refuses to, so she runs to the Witchwood, the very same Witchwood Stanley chased her into with a knife. She thinks about Stanley, and she hears the car behind her, and for a second, they are one and the same. She will never be able to rest. She can never stop running.
She could climb a tree, like she did with Stanley, but could she? What she saw up there is worse than death. She won't put herself through it again.
So she runs from the man who swore he loved her. Only now there is no carotid to stab, only cold, unforgiving metal. The chase goes on, and then, it's over.
Her body lives, but Becky Barnes dies on the floor of the Witchwood, alone and terrified. Her death was a perfect mirror of her greatest trauma, and her last action was to try and escape a man she loved.
Jane's A Car from Tom's perspective is zany. Jane's A Car from Becky's perspective is horrifying.

Machine Learning in Natural Language Processing: Enhancing Understanding and Communication
Machine Learning (ML) has emerged as a powerful tool in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), revolutionizing the way computers understand and communicate with human language. Through the application of ML algorithms, NLP systems have gained the ability to process, analyze, and generate text, leading to significant advancements in AI-driven language understanding. In this blog post, we will explore the role of Machine Learning in NLP and how it enhances the way we communicate and interact with AI systems.
Understanding Natural Language Processing (NLP):
NLP revolves around facilitating the interaction and communication between computers and human language. It involves tasks such as text classification, sentiment analysis, language translation, and chatbot interactions. Machine Learning plays a vital role in NLP by providing algorithms and models that can automatically learn patterns, structures, and meanings from text data.
Text Classification and Sentiment Analysis:
Machine Learning algorithms find extensive application in text classification tasks, automatically assigning predefined categories to text. Sentiment analysis, a specific form of text classification, involves determining the sentiment or emotional tone of a text. ML models, such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), Naive Bayes, and Neural Networks, learn from labelled data to classify text accurately.
Named Entity Recognition (NER):
NER is a crucial NLP task that involves identifying and classifying named entities in text, such as names, locations, organizations, and dates. Machine Learning techniques, including Conditional Random Fields (CRF) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), have significantly improved NER performance by learning contextual information and capturing dependencies between words.
Language Translation:
Machine Learning has revolutionized language translation by enabling the development of Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) and Neural Machine Translation (NMT) models. SMT models leverage statistical techniques to translate text, while NMT models, based on deep neural networks, provide more accurate and context-aware translations, capturing nuances and idiomatic expressions.
Question Answering and Chatbots:
Machine Learning enables AI systems to engage in interactive conversations and answer questions accurately. Question Answering (QA) models use ML algorithms to understand queries and provide relevant responses by extracting information from textual sources. Chatbots, powered by ML, can understand user intent, generate human-like responses, and simulate natural conversations.
Text Generation and Summarization:
Machine Learning algorithms have made significant contributions to text generation and summarization tasks. By learning patterns from vast amounts of text data, models like Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), and Transformers can generate coherent and contextually relevant text, enhancing content generation and automatic summarization capabilities.
Speech Recognition and Natural Language Understanding:
ML plays a crucial role in speech recognition, converting spoken language into text. Deep Learning models, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), have enabled significant advancements in automatic speech recognition, enabling voice-controlled systems and voice assistants.
Wrapping Up!!!
Machine Learning has transformed Natural Language Processing, empowering computers to understand and communicate with human language effectively. Through techniques like text classification, sentiment analysis, named entity recognition, language translation, question answering, and text generation, ML algorithms have enhanced the accuracy and capabilities of NLP systems. As ML continues to advance, it will further revolutionize the way we interact with AI-driven systems, enabling more natural and intuitive communication.
Celebal Technologies, an innovative IT company, was recently honored with the prestigious title of 'Microsoft AI Partner of the Year 2023,' acknowledging its leadership and expertise in the field of artificial intelligence. some thoughts about: Elias and his revenge
another post about Elias from Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere. mostly about what the fuck happened to him in Chapters 54 and 55, and what I think that says about the character development he underwent before the story began and the development we missed out on when Rizal nerfed him.
I’m using the English translation as reference, with occasional recourse to the bits of the Spanish Gutenberg copy I can understand. like in the last one, the bold isn’t quite for emphasis, it’s just to make some phrases jump out because large blocks of text and my attention span are not friends.
Elias is a supporting character in Noli, a solitary wanderer on a revenge mission with a strange tenacity when it comes to life debts, despite the fact that he doesn’t actually like his life a lot—which is fair, because it sucks.
despite appearances, he is actually on a revenge mission. he isn’t just wandering aimlessly; he doesn’t mention a goal to Ibarra in Chapter 50, but his rage in Chapter 54 and his passing remark to Salome in Kabanata X reveal that his true purpose in Laguna is to find out what happened to Pedro Eibarramendia and/or his descendants.
what his plans were for when he did find out aren’t exactly clear—in Chapter 54 he goes into shock and furiously demands that Ibarra “give an account” for his family’s misfortunes before almost attacking him with knives from Ibarra’s own collection. most of that can be explained by the fact that he was already very agitated when he got there that evening, and Ibarra’s stubborn refusal to get himself to safety probably made him even more anxious. however, before he can really do more than give Ibarra dagger-eyes and possibly a bruise, he loses his nerve and gets the hell out of there. “What was I going to do?” he mutters, and runs.
you could look at it as an expression of horror at his own actions. it’s true that he doesn’t seem very remorseful about his hand in the death of Lucas’s brother, and I get the feeling he wouldn’t have been very nice to Lucas if they’d been able to really talk after the graveyard, but neither of them are Ibarra. he has designated Ibarra as someone he has a duty to help—and in any case, he must know on some level that Ibarra isn’t responsible for what Don Pedro did. Ibarra might have other scores to settle with other people, but between him and Elias personally there’s no real beef, and Elias knows (and more importantly, cares about) that.
that’s part of it, certainly. I’m just going to add another bit—that the question is also (sort of) an expression of derision. what was I going to do, kill him? with his servants all in the house, having seen me go in? what was I going to do, stab him? with his hands free and in a room full of his defenses? what was I going to do after that? everything he says and does—and how he says and does it (jerkily and then all in a rush)—suggests that he doesn’t really know what he’s doing; he either didn’t plan for this specific situation (and to be fair, it’s pretty unusual to discover who your target is while you’re in his house helping him protect himself) or he didn’t actually plan for this at all.
and that, combined with what we know of his backstory and his personality, implies some things to me! this is where we cross into speculation, so take this all with a grain of salt.
look, while Elias is the guy who jumped into a lake to kill a crocodile without even a fucking knife and went to break Ibarra out of prison with a boat, hay, and some sacks, he’s had months at least, possibly years, to think about what he’s going to do when he finds what he’s looking for. not being prepared for every eventuality seems pretty standard Elias tbh, but to be so thrown off that he clearly telegraphs his intent to commit a crime and then runs away without doing it? what did you think would happen, Elias???
nothing.
like, he doesn’t think nothing will happen, he just hasn’t really thought about it. he’ll track down the Eibarramendia family, and then what? he’ll cross that bridge when he gets to it. he either doesn’t have the energy or doesn’t have the capability to figure out what happens next.
for my money, the revenge mission is his way of coping with the upheaval of his life and then the deaths of his father and sister.
(it’s not a particularly good way of coping—it channeled and fed into his inflexible sense of duty to the point that he hardly gave anything else priority, and he seems to have put off actually processing things in the meantime, neither of which are good. and because he’s still somewhat stuck there, he’s also stuck in his self-pity and self-centeredness. he’s evolved a bit since then, but you can tell that he’s still mostly used to being his own world.)
Elias was jerked out of his lifestyle and mindset and subsequently had to deal with anger, resentment, and grief he didn’t know what to do with. at first I suspect he took it out on things with less restraint than we see in Noli, earning him his fugitive status and reputation.
however, over time, and due to several factors both in and out of his control, he developed in a quieter, gentler direction. he put the unwanted emotions into his grudge, where it was easier to handle for the time being, and clung to it despite the beliefs he later formed because if he didn’t the turmoil became unbearable. Chapter 55, I think, is evidence; if those gunshots hadn’t startled him, maybe a 50/50 chance he would’ve survived the night.
honestly, just for that reason I wish he hadn’t died. I understand why he couldn’t really be given page time between Ibarra’s arrest and prison break, but it would’ve been interesting to see what he did after one of his primary motivations went bust.

Okay, so idk how coherent this will be as usual, but I feel that a lot of people did not grasp the whole idea of Yok’s project, which is extremely important for the whole tone of the show.
I am not sure how many people in this fandom have any idea of what a Proletariat is or why it is a very important part of our history.
The basics of the Proletariat are as follows:
The proletariat is the social class of wage-earners, those members of a society whose only possession of significant economic value is their labour power or in other words - their capacity to work, as in they are useless if they cannot be used for labour. The proletarii is the first term to come up during Ancient Rome, who are basically the constituted social class of Roman citizens, who either owned a little piece of land or none at all.
The term comes back in full force in the early 19th century, when it was pointed out by Western European liberal scholars that the modern industrial worker class is extremely similar to the the proletarii, and what it basically means is “modern slavery”. Jean Charles Léonard de Sismondi was the first to apply the proletariat term to the working class created under capitalism.
It is then used by Marx, who defines the proletariat as the social class that has no ownership of production and it’s only means of survival is basically selling their labour. According to Marxism capitalism is based on the exploitation of the proletariat by the bourgeoisie.
This is the summarized version of what a Proletariat is, if you want to read more about it - Google is at your disposal.
Anyway, let’s talk about art and the significance of it in part with the Proletariat understanding of the world and in particularity of Capitalism.
As Capitalism evolved into what it is today the whole term “Proletariat” got widely forgotten, under the circumstances in which the working class evolved. In the mid 20th century, art was widely accepted as something that is basically meant for the bourgeoisie, rather than it being for everyone to admire. In the late mid 20th century this trend superseded it’s initial understanding that art in its most widely spread form - paintings, literature, sculptures, music, dances, overall everything that is considered art - is only for the upper class, as it spread to influencing architecture as well as overall trends in the art movements.
As the upper class took a hold on art during those years, unknown artists were mostly starving and dying, while their art was sold at minimal price and then resold to the bourgeoisie at prices that would probably be enough for them to live the rest of their lives peacefully.
Another thing is that it greatly influenced what was being made into art. The majority of popular art pieces from the mid 20th century are generally things that are tightly connected to the upper class. Like portraits of widely known people or architecture that fits the upper class’ understanding of how “beauty” should look.
Now, the whole idea of Yok’s project is based on the inequality of beauty standards. Because as we all know Capitalism’s standard for beauty owes its existence to the so called upper class. Basically, here we are talking about fair skin, small waists, being blonde, etc, etc; we all know what I am trying to paint here. Thus, everything that does not fit this criteria is deemed not beautiful and is often said to be cheap and dirty. Handicaps are deemed to be ugly and unnatural, ostracized from day to day life. This is where the connection of his project and what they are fighting for comes in with full force.
If we look at art and how it has been influenced and modelled throughout the years by the upper class, we can grasp as to how Capitalism has ostracized everything that does not fit its own narrative. The working class has been separated from the upper one with this huge void, where if one is not fit, intelligent enough or is not born of a high place, they cannot find a place in today’s world and is being left to rot at the bottom of a pit, where all they can do is the bare minimum in order to survive.
The idea of Proletariat Expressionism and overall art, is that not everything has to be crisp and clean for it to make a person feel something. The idea is that the more “filth and dirt” you add to a piece of art, the more it can be connected to a person. The more it can be seen as something completely natural and normal. It all comes down to normalizing the idea that whichever class you fall into that shouldn’t mean that your life has to be more or less colourful, more or less difficult or easy. Equality should not fall under some criteria. Rather it should be seen as something everyone is born with and thrives to make for themselves.
Nudity as a language in expressing that is very important in my opinion, as it can show that no matter what your form is, no matter if you are scarred, bruised and deformed, it has to express only one thing - that you are human. That you are a part of this society. That you are one of the many pillars holding this society from crumbling down.
Basically, beauty standards are used as a tool for the Capitalist propaganda and are a very evident show as to how Capitalism treats people and especially the working class.
Welp, thank you for coming to my TED talk I guess. This is probably disjointed, idk.

ik you've mentioned you want to start making video essays before, do you have any specific topics you'd be interested in covering?
I have a few thoughts!
I wrote a pair of essays for one of my college classes a couple years back that were received really well by my professor, and they were about special effects. the first was informative, about the history and development of special effects in film, and the other was argumentative, about my opinions on practical effects, realistic CGI, and stylized CGI. I'm really proud of those still and I've very much thought about converting them into video essays for fun
I'd like to talk about spoiler culture too, as someone who doesn't care about spoilers and actively looks them up sometimes. I have some thoughts about that I think would be interesting to share
the margin of viewership would be much smaller for these I'm sure but I have some thoughts on a few Hatchetfield video essays I could do. analyzing Paul's tragic hero arc and why I think he's the best, most effective use of the "everyman" trope, because of course I'd have a Paul essay have you met me? I'd do a look at the whole cast of TGWDLM. the themes I take from all the main couples and how I think they each fit into the tone of the series. my thoughts on the structure of Black Friday, probably a look at the cast of that, too. proper, in-depth analyses of all the NMT stories (including converting my Perky's Buds post into more proper form). stuff like that
a Total Drama essay about how I would rewrite the World Tour season cuz it's the best season but it still sucks-
one about why Craig of the Creek is the most underrated current cartoon and deserves more love
a comparison of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels vs the movie
an essay about my favorite movie, The Way Way Back
AND of course essays on all the Cornetto Trilogy movies,,, one comparing each leading duo and their relationship and my interpretations. one about how each one handles the women in the cast. one all about Shaun of the Dead, one all about Hot Fuzz. an all-encompassing one about the themes of all three. a fun one just talking about all the dumb shit I know about the trilogy and also Spaced, all the things I know that carry over and reference each other
and finally. my magnum opus. Why The World's End is the BEST of the Cornetto Trilogy, Actually: An In-Depth Analysis of Why I'm Right

from the notes...
…Parakrekks are known to follow in the aftermath of destruction left by Protocairns, "cleaning up" the remains after Protocairns have created new landmasses. The Parakrekks species was created by the Makuta in order to take advantage of the inadvertent terraforming properties of the Protocairn species. Parakrekks typically move in and "round off the edges" of a newly created island structure, devouring any remnants of older structures/foliage/debris and preparing the landscape for re-use.
It has been suggested that Makuta Chirox was responsible for the creation of Parakrekks as an early prototype of the Visorak, which he developed later in the Eastern Corridor. This interpretation finds some support in the etymology of the name Parakrekks itself, as discussed below:
The name parakrekks appears to originate from Isolate Matoran (=Western Matoran) due to commonalities with the name-forms kyrehx (early IsMt.) and reysa (late IsMt.). The primary etymology of parakrekks is divided into two portions: parak- and rekks or krekks, from earlier *(ky)rekx "ocean, silver sea" (cf. kyrehx "ocean", reys(a) "expanse"). Parak- may itself derive from a compound assigned by the Makuta, as was common with early Rahiforms. Under this analysis, parak- is to be analyzed as a Southern Matoran form originating from earlier ?barak, either an abbreviation of *ba-dax "creature of balance/order" (with intervocalic d > r, as in the element -rak of viso-rak) or simply as a reduction/simplification of bohrok with a sense of "cleaner". Hence, parak-rekks can be analyzed as "aquatic cleaner/creature of balance", with the element (k)rekks assigned by Matoran in reference to the amphibious nature of the Rahi.
Another etymological analysis has been proposed drawing up the relation between the Protocairn and Parakrekks species and dispensing with the idea of a Makuta-assigned name, as follows:
The name Parakrekks may itself be based upon a Southern Matoran dialectal version of the word protocaer(n) (the origin of the human-language anglicized form "Protocairn"), originally a borrowing into Old Matoran from Praetar. Under this analysis, proto-caer(n) takes the form para-crae(n) in early Southern Matoran (cf. also -par in the name Carapar, also from SMt.), with dax "creature, titan" appended, as was common in the designations of non-Matoran species, followed by intervocalic d > r: *paracraerax > *parakraex > parakrekks "Protocairn-creature".
This name assignment stems from a confusion amongst Matoran populations about the origin of Parakrekks: after the destruction caused by Protocairns, the Parakrekks would arrive to sift through the rubble, and this led Matoran to believe that the two were one and the same species; the latter simply a metamorphosis of the former. The fact that the Southern Matoran form of the name became predominant in records (instead of, for example, a postulated NMt. form like *protokardax or prikardax) is simply a result of the greater prevalence of Protocairns and Parakrekks in southern regions compared to northern regions...
