If anyone who is aroace and into fantasy hadn’t read the Not Even Bones trilogy you totally should. It’s three very good books about supernatural beings, called unnaturals in this universe, who experience significant prejudice. And the two main characters are very much both in the aroace spectrum. Nita is definitely full on aroace. Kovit is aware that he’s not allo but not quite sure where he falls. And then a whole other important character is also aromantic and maybe asexual. The way they talk about feelings that are powerful but not love is so wonderful. Plus it’s illustrated over in WEBTOON (both screenshots above are from the comic itself with the second one containing all the credits) also both Nita and Kovit are low key hilarious and love to bond over their mutual love of murder. Great bonding.

oh and if that’s not enough. Let’s not forget about the themes of parental abuse that even goes into how the other parent who is the ‘nice’ one is still at fault for being compliant with the abuser. Wow, that’s just. Dang. Go read the books and the comic.

as I reread the Market of Monsters series I need to thank Rebecca Schaeffer again for giving us a set of main characters who openly discuss being on the aroace spectrum and have a QPR without it ever being seen as lesser than a romantic/sexual relationship, and having it be a core part of their relationship as characters without being used as a diversity play.
