It's hard to believe that El-Shaddai, an unsung 2011 title recently remastered for the Switch, was the chosen advertising motif for Nissin's brand new premium Tokujo Cup line. The ad uses the initial dialogue between Enoch and Lucifel. The character-defining line from the game that is played repeatedly towards the end, 一番いいのを頼む (Ichi-ban ī no o tanomu), suitably translates to ask for the best or, as per the international release translation, I'll take the best you have. As one who has studied the long rich history of instant noodles and their relation to digital games, consider me elated - not to mention peckish!

From Bandai Spirits and Nissin, a 1:1 plastic model of a Cup Noodle. The kit sports and impressive number of runners, with the large logo on the front and gold ring decorations being made of numerous separate pieces. The shrimp are cast in pink and have peel-and-stick decals to replicate the look of cooked and dehydrated shellfish. Also in the kit is a strip of green plastic you cut into pieces as scallions. I used a brown wash on the noodles to represent the seasonings and used a matte finish on the eggs and mystery meat to cut down on the plastic shine.

Cup Noodle 50th anniversary noodle flavoured soda

In 2021, Nissin celebrated the 50th anniversary of Cup Noodle with this limited run set of four noodle flavoured sodas. as it was Japan exclusive, I had to use a third party shipping company to get it here, making it my most expensive soda purchase to date.

The pack came with 4 Sodas:

Did I enjoy the sodas? Honestly, no, but as someone who loves novelty, I believe they were worth the experience. It was fun to pair them with their respective Cup Noodle. The tomato flavour was like drinking a virgin bloody mary, so it was the most "normal."

The cola was the most interesting, it reminded me of jeera masala, sweet and warm, I paired it with the curry cheese rather than the plain curry so the flavours would be slightly different.

The seafood was the worst, on opening the smell was very strong, it was creamy like a cold clam chowder, not really what I look for in an eating or drinking experience.

I really like the bottles, the aluminium stubby bottle isn't something I come across a lot, even with imports. it was nice to hold and the size / shape allowed for continuity with the classic cup noodle wrap around label design

French Cup Noodles Chicken Supreme Sauce Truffle Flavor

I have acquired & tasted the "Campfire S'mores" Nissin Cup Noodles. They taste fine. A mild and vague, sweet, slightly savory + caramel-y taste, which kinda reminds me of caramel corn.

I recommend fishing out the dehydrated mini marshmallows before you prepare it, and then putting them back when you are ready to eat. Otherwise they will dissolve & disappear.
