I just dove into the world of Nintendo Gameboy Comics.
It did not disappoint! So have this random redraw I did of a singular panel from those comics ft. My version of Princess Daisy & Tatanga.

The Preferable Alternative- Prologue - Part 1
Start (you are here) - Previous (none) - Next
New au. I can't explain the main thought behind this without spoilers. And since i'm jumping straight into a multi-part comic, i won't be giving out any.
Basically vibes for this is that it's kinda creepy and maybe suspenseful with eventual hurt/comfort (if that doesn't make sense, im sorry, i have a hard time describing things). I'm also pretty mean to Donnie. Not "Donnie vs" mean, but unfortunately this idea wouldn't work with anyone else.
(for those that get anxious, like me. There is no main character death. (might not be death at all but we shall see. that depends on one character and even i'm not sure exactly what they'd do yet.) and no one's gets serious physical injuries. Definitely more hurt/comfort than plain angst. b/c that's how i roll. I can't do straight up angst.)
I'll write a proper summery once the prologue's done. I don't want to spoil it too much. For now, just know it's a PB&J duo story that happens during the 6 weeks before the Krang invasion.

Links awakening AU part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow. From layout, to sketching, to drawing, to coloring, this took about 3 days. If you liked it maybe don’t expect part 2 so soon. I don’t know how comic artists do it. Anyway this is the beginning of my Links Awakening AU that mostly focuses on Marin before Link gets to Koholint. I know most people probably believe that Marin is an idealized version of Zelda that Link dreams up, and to that I say… whatever. I’ve worked too hard on this story to consider that. I have to credit @blueskittlesart and @proxycrit for inspiration, I mostly based the format off of studying their comics.
I need name ideas so if you have any lmk. Alright thanks for reading, please come back for the next part (whenever that is)

Grace House, Mountain is about two unreliable siblings dealing with the loss of a relative on a holiday visit to their old home. it's one of several ideas I'm throwing about for pitches as a possible longform book project. Going for a particular tone I like to call "Cosy-Depressing" and "PBS Arthur-core". (I haven't yet drawn any boards with wizards in them but that doesn't mean there will be no wizards).

Metroid: Samus Vs SA-X (*EARLY* 2006)
Tumblr media
Ah, Metroid. Another game series to which I was a bit of a late arrival, but fell completely in love with.
I was primarily a SEGA kid growing up. We did have an NES, but only a few games for it, and only one I really ever played for more than a few minutes at a time. (Original Super Mario Bros.) Can't say for 100% certain which I actually, definitely played FIRST, but it was the Genesis and Sonic The Hedgehog in particular that I feel truly started my journey into gaming.
My first ever experience with the Metroid series was when my friend who lived down the street got Super Smash Bros Melee for his Gamecube.
I wasn't too familiar with fighting games, but it was pretty easy to pick up and a lot of fun. I recognized a lot of the characters even without having played most of their games, but there was one character in particular who caught my attention.
This cool orange robot dude...
Me: "Who's this 'Samus' guy?"
Friend: "That's a girl in a robot suit. She's from Metroid. She shoots lasers and missiles and stuff."
Me: "That sounds awesome!"
So Samus became my Smash Bros. main, and I was interested in learning more about the Metroid games, but unfortunately wouldn't get the chance to actually play one for a little while longer.
Metroid Fusion and Prime came out later that year, and I remember playing both on the demo consoles at...I want to say Target, but I still didn't actually get my own copy of a Metroid game until what must have been the *next* year, because I found some copies of Fusion in the cheap games bin and I managed to talk my mother into getting it for me.
I loved it. The story didn't depend too much on you having played the other games, and recapped the most important parts of them at the start, so I was able to follow the plot and understand everything that was going on.
In fact, I was a little disappointed when I did eventually get around to playing them that Adam didn't appear in any of them after Samus spent half of Fusion talking about him and how her new ship's computer reminded her of him, and how important their relationship ended up being toward the end of the game. I just assumed he must have been a major character, and that Samus was talking about stuff they did in the other games. (Which I also assumed were as narrative-focused and straightforward as Fusion.)
I was surprised to find they were not, but still enjoyed them. It's interesting when your first experience with a series is the installment notable for diverging from the formula.
Anyway. What about this drawing? Well, I had started using Flash for the first time in 2005, but it seems I hadn't begun using it for drawings until the *middle* of 2006. Almost everything I've posted to this archive that says "2006" has been from mid to late 2006.
This is from EARLY 2006, which means I was still using Photoshop for drawing and coloring, and I was NOT good at it.

My Links Awakening drawing had to be a redraw of this scene from the intro. This image has been stuck in my brain for 25 years. I tried to keep the colour palette as close to the original as possible.

FGC #668 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade Wrath of the Mutants
It is late August. Summer is almost over, and I am an old man that wants to feel like a kid again. Time to hit the local arcade (my basement), and play a bunch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat ‘em ups. That should beat the summer heat! To justify this frivolous waste of time, I shall judge these beat ‘em ups on important criteria, like turtle-differences, plot, boss-differences, and Krang…
