the name of this blog, Memento Vivere, is latin for remember to live. you may be familiar with its more morbid counterpart, Memento Mori, remember you must die. the reason for this choice of phrase is that due to reasons, i sometimes have to remind myself to stop and live, to really smell the roses, to appreciate my short existence on this spinning rock in space. so this blog will be my escape, my breath of fresh air, my cup of mint earl grey on a rainy january morning.

If we're talking CBeebies nostalgia, I used to watch Nina and the Neurons when I was little and lowkey had a crush on Felix the green touch neuron 😭 I also shipped him with Ollie the purple scent neuron, don't ask me why (again, long before I even knew what shipping or fandom were lol). I remember being disappointed when Felix's voice actor changed because I preferred his original voice 😂 All this to say, don't be embarrassed about your Archie From Balamory self-shipping. I'm gonna run and hide now! 😅

hi! I figured I should uh actually make an intro post cos I keep seeing other people's!

Basics: my name's May, im 18 and my pronouns are she/they! I'm British and have just started my first year of uni but that's kinda BORING !! 1 - 02/12/2023 : liked the idea of Heidi with a buzzcut, i think it really suits her, a radical change from her usual hairstyle, but a cool one... i love having futch OCs

2 - 04/12/2023 : chike chike chike.. frogot why i drew him think i was thinking of him doing cat things and it was gonna be a lot more than 2 drawings but i gived up x ,, but this is the most up 2 date drawing of his current design aside from like. the one colour wheel wip. so ur getting crumbs for him im sorry chike fans (1 person)

3-6 - 05/12/2023 : firstly, saw sum official art of Peach on twitter and wanted to redraw it, i loveee her eyes.. slay.. secondly, DIESEL REDESIGN YAY1!! it is now up to date. yippie. i decided he should be fat, very big brain of me.. i didnt Hate his old design but it was kinda giving kokichi danganronpa and like thats not him LOL.. but anyway i luv this drawing

7 - 08/12/2023 : okay guys lets take a silly one now!!! erm anyway. was thinking about nina and the neurons, as you do, thought it would be funny to draw nina activating her neurons, like that 1 pic of the guy levitating pizza.... she served so hard with her claires accessories rave ball earrings and fluffy bobbles tho lets be real.. was very disappointed to learn shes not a real scientist

8 - 12/12/2023 : twas in the middle of finalising a design for my human Sonny, so heres some lil phone doodles where i was figuring out his hair and hat, i ended up going with the right hand side, thought it would be worth posting them

9 - 16/12/2023 : first sort of draft of his design being put to use, not my faaave drawing but it was nice to finally get him drawn, it was an absolute ballache trying to get his design perfect, the art block was Strong that week.. anyway, i did end up changing some things, just tweaks mostly, and i scrapped the hoodie, i wanted him to have a bigass varsity jacket collar to hide behind, so i opted for him wearing a plain t-shirt underneath instead, eventually

10 - 20/12/2023 : Buttercup and his scary ass big blue freak eyes, based on a tweet i saw, the OP went private eye fink but the og tweet said like "i don't have rizz, i have unsettlingly large blue eyes that are haunted by visions", and thats just Buttercup.. so heres him, having a jolly good stare

11 - 22/12/2023 : that chooshada drawing again, just recoloured with NER apple green livery :) i think she looks super cute with it, it's not entirely accurate in terms of lining coz i was referencing pics of her basis which are like 10p black and white taken on a potato kinda deal

A Poem I Wrote for You While Sitting at the Country Club Bar

I knew you in a past life. Lovers or brothers, but sisters definitely. The lack of chemicals in our brains are the same. Each impulse triggered by the misfiring of neurons with synapses that have too much space in between.

We probably shared a lollipop once or a cigarette, swapping sin with spit, poetic words with confessionals, or exchanging Barbie’s for Bratzs, knowing they were all the same thing.

Or maybe we traded our thoughts about Nina Simone and that truck driver you never wrote about and how it felt to smell fresh tar bubbling under the weight of a July sun.

But I really think that we were twins, bearing teeth in the womb

Birthday Scottish actress Siobhan Redmond, born in Glasgow on August 27th 1959.

Please note wiki give her d.o.b as July 27th, but two other sources say August.

Redmond was educated at Park School for Girls in Glasgow’s West End. She then studied English at St Andrews University, it is here she started acting in student productions and is said to have been discovered by oor Makar Liz Lochhead. She went on to complete a one-year postgraduate year at the Bristol Old Vic.

Siobhan might not be a household name, but she has some pretty impressive credentials to her portfolio, her first roles were in comedy shows, the most famous being Alfresco in 1983/84 alongside an impressive line up that included, Robbie Coltrane, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and Ben Elton, as seen in the first photo.

She went on to become a regular character in the 80’s series Bulman, as Lucy McGinty. Perhaps her biggest TV role was in the 90’s cop show Between the Lines as Det. Sgt. Maureen Connell, after this she appeared with Alan Cummings in the underrated sitcom The High Life, a link to another post today, in 1997 we saw her onscreen with Billy Connolly in an adaptation of Deacon Brodie!

Redmond took on a role in the Hospital-soap type series Holby City as consultant paediatrician and clinical lead of Otter Ward, Janice Taylor. Since then Siobhan seems to have reverted to playing the role of a cop again, in The Bill, crime scene examiner Lorna Hart in 14 episodes in 2007 and in Taggart in 2010 she was Chief Supt Karen Campbell in 6 episodes. Redmond has also provided the voice of Ollie in the popular bairns animated show Nina and the Neurons. More up to date shows include, Queens of Mystery, Amazon Prime series Dark Sense and the Excellent mini series Unforgotten. We last saw Siobhan last year in The Nest and Grantchester, while she returned to Queens of Mystery this year, which also starred the excellent Julie Graham. Prior to that, there was a BBC Scotland comedy pilot, Beep, which aired earlier this year, and the opening episode of the latest series of Midsomer Murders, one of the first shows to return to filming last summer.

Siobhan Redmond has also been very busy treading the boards, as a regular member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, playing among others Beatrice in “Much Ado About Nothing"a nd in a play called ‘The Trick is to Keep Breathing’ which debuted at The Tron Theatre Glasgow, before touring all over the country and in Canada. She also starred in "Look Back in Anger” that followed a world tour in 1990 with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson.

Siobhan recently appeared in the omedy-drama series Rain Dogs , she also turnedup in the sitcom Two Doors Down, whicha new series is in production just now.

She held eye contact with Ada for a moment longer and the younger woman thought she saw a tremor at the corner of the doctor’s jaw. Then Nina turned on her heel and swept out of the Conference Room leaving behind the specter of her musky perfume.

Ada folded her arms across her chest. She paced the floor and her sneakers squeaked obnoxiously against the linoleum.

She couldn’t fault Dr Parris, even as she seethed at getting nowhere with their conversation. Nina’s motives for sticking with Umbrella were hardly different than the ones Ada had proudly admitted to when she’d accepted the job a year ago. Ada had known Umbrella was shady at best, downright unethical at worst. But the risk had been worth it if Umbrella could resuscitate her flagging career.

Of course, she’d never imagined they’d sink to the depths they had. Raccoon City had been easy to hand-wave away as an accident, especially with Umbrella working overtime to defend themselves against the Government’s lawsuit.

If she was honest with herself, Ada hadn’t thought too hard about the doomed city or its inhabitants. It wasn’t her responsibility, not then and not now.

But Delta had changed her. So had Emery and Donovan. Now, for the first time in her life, she felt responsible for someone besides herself and it was like feeling the best and worst of everything all at once. She felt invincible even as the floor crumbled beneath her feet.

She’d lost Donovan. Emery was also gone. And if she didn’t act fast, Delta would be carried off to The Icarus to be submitted for inhumane electroshock until everything that made him him had been burned away.

But she had nothing to bargain with to keep him safe. She had no allies onboard The Persephone anymore.

Ada stopped in her tracks, her hands falling to her sides. She knew then what she had to do. All she needed was the strength to follow through with her plan.

Lucy was born to a mom in (temporary) recovery, and never knew her father. She grew up mostly raised by maternal grandparents while her mother went through several rounds of rehab, additional pregnancies and falls off the wagon. Lucy, meanwhile, became a driven, intelligent young woman - with a real sarcastic wit. She excelled in soccer, but ended up needing financial assistance for college.

She was indignant at needing financial assistance, being teased by classmates for her financial struggle, and eschewed parties to hold down a job around classes. By 2037 Lucy was in her last year of a bachelors program at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Already having been approached by prestigious biomedical firms, Lucy was starting to feel she'd outrun her crappy circumstance of birth. Around the same time news of a new outbreak was starting one of the firms swooped in and recruited every student on the same track. Promised them the chance to change the world in their lifetime, to save mankind. That they were all needed.

Dielectric was their home for several years as the world shut down. Compartmentalized, kept ignorant of the goings on outside; told it was for the best if they weren't distracted by the outside world.

Small teams worked on different pieces of a greater whole, brainstorming, hypothesizing, testing, making odd supply requests from the men upstairs...

Until supplies stopped showing up.

An intellectual powerhouse, the cell found solutions to problems as they came. Predicted likely future issues and took what preventative measures they could. But eventually, the walls would be permeated.

What researchers survived that inevitable breach fled; they weren't built for brute force fighting. Lucy was never more grateful that she'd been a jock in high school, able to outrun bigger, heavier predators.

A year of another kind of learn-by-doing, and Lucy fell ass-over-teakettle into Redwood. Specifically by setting off a hunting trap.

Frédéric François Chopin:

Dead Polish composer who occupied the space that boybands would have in my adeolescent brain if I was normal. I loved his music (still do), wanted to learn piano about it, and was fascinated by his relationship with baller GNC 1800s dyke novelist George Sand, the point where I hunted down translations of biographies and novels just to learn more about it. I have consumed every scrap of chopin contnent I could get my hands on. I have permanent beef with eternal sonata, a random jrpg, for rendering Chopin as prettier and more functional than they aught to. I have read short-run hand-drawn deviantart comics. I have seen the films- do you know how desperate a hyperactive 12 year old has to be to sit through Impromptu (1991)? it's a lot.

Ollie:

Ollie is a character from a 2000s kid's show called Nina and the Neurons. She's an anthropomorphised neuron in charge of the sense of smell. She also has a soothing voice, a scottish accent, and near-complete control of my brain when I was like 7. I'm not even sure what the appeal was but that little purple thing had me reading college neuroanatomy textbooks because they had sections on the olfactory cortex and Ollie lives in there!

Tiny Elliot hc! Elliot being the most curious kiddo! He loves watching all the learning shows! Maybe he likes being taken to science museums and children’s museums! Perhaps a caregiver gets him a nat geo kids subscription!

Oooo, I absolutely love this!! (I know you send this ask a while ago, sorry for answering so late, I kinda forgot it in my drafts hehehe)

Elliot is also absolutely obsessed with geology and archaeology, anything about ancient relics that can be found in the ground.

╰→ He collects rocks (and even bones) he finds when he's playing outside or exploring the woods.

His cg also definitely got him a metal detector and he loves going on "treasure hunts".

╰→ Elliot absolutely also collects those treasures. So far, he has about one bucket full of "treasures" he found... Most of which are bottle caps. (But only ones with pretty colors).

He has multiple childrens books on dinosaurs, cavemen, astrology, physics, geology, the human body, history, biology.. anything and everything, really.

Elliot's rewards are also vastly different from most other kiddo's..

╰→ His cg gives him pe- and elementary school learning books, buys all different kinds of experiment kits, takes him to the mentioned museums, prepares experiments to do at home (or outside) and even creates "homework" for him to do, on topics that interest him.

Elliot also definitely loves learning shows for children.. Especially older ones, he watched growing up, though he also enjoys newer ones aswell.
