People are simping for Lancelot and yeah, he's cool BUT WHAT ABOUT SIR PELLEAS, THE GENTLE KNIGHT?!?!
Like I'm rereading "the death of Arthur" rn and slowly remember why I didn't like Gawain at first and why this story with Sir Pelleas was one who captured my attention the most.
Sir Pelleas. This bro won 10 (!) knights ALONE. He allowed them to tie him up and take him captive to his lady because “this is the only way for me to see her”. HE DIDN'T KILL GAWAIN OR HIS LADY ETTARDE AFTER GAWAIN SPENT NIGHTS WITH HER. He also asked his people to cut out his heart after he dies and bring it on a silver plate to Ettarde (what a romantic). And then Nynyve comes to him and with her magic makes Pelleas stop loving Ettarda. AND THEN PELLEAS FALLS IN LOVE WITH NYNYVE AND THEY ARE LIVING HAPPILY EVER AFTER 💔💔💔
I LOVE THIS GUY SO MUCH HE'S SO COOL PLEASE

Lancelot's tears part 2
Warning: not so small text.
So, those days i got myself thinking "Lancelot crys a lot in the legends. Probably because he was raised only whit women and he didn't grow up whit the pressure of 'real men don't cry' bullshit. It's funny cause in the show he was raised to be a weapon and only by men paladins. It's kind of contradictory... wait hold on-"
Well my mind just give me de awsome information that PERHAPS Lancelot and his cousins, Lionel and Bors, might just had swapped their fates whit each other in the show. Why, do you ask? Let me give you some of those beautiful reasons that almost made me want to drown myself in coffee and medicine.
In the original legends, we know that Lancelot's mother, Elaine, ran away when the castle they lived in set on fire and give young Lancelot to Viviane, the Lady of the Lake or Lady du Lac, which in the show we know as Nimue. And in some other versions he is kidnaped, or more like taken away from his mother's arms, by her. And we all assume his biological mother is dead. While Bors and Lionel are taken by Claudas and his son, and held in captivy for a time (it's not telled how many time exacly), until they kill Claudas' oldest son and ran away whit the help of Claudas' youngest son.
By the time Lionel and Bors had been whit Claudas they were treated like prisioners and had only permision to go to church or be in the surroundings of the castle whit vigilance, and they would be punished for any bad action if i remember correctly. If that's a wrong information then pardon and please correct me.
I strongly belive that Bors is too religious cause of the trumas he passed during this period of the sequence of trumas in his life. The parents death, the kidnap, and the fact that he couldn't leave or go to any place other than the church. And all of this happend when he was young, but not so young as Lancelot.
They don't cry as much as Lancelot does. Probably cause Lancelot was raised whit only women and had much more freedom to cry and expose his feelings, meanwhile, for what i belive, Lionel and Bors had been whit Claudas and i'm pretty sure he has the "swallow the cry, or i'll give you a real reason to cry. Suck it up." kind of guy dealing whit them two.
In the show we see that insted of being raised whit women, Lancelot was raised whit paladins men, worse than that, church man-blood men. NO OFFENSES. And that he probably was kidnaped and treated like an animal or a demon/prisioner. Really similar whit Lionel and Bors don't you think? It gets worse. Cause we see Lancelot suffering and asking the father if he loves him, but we don't see him cry when he totally should in front Carden. Really weird the similarity happend twice, huh?
Lancelot was raised by men, kidnaped, treated very poorly from the very beginning, and doesn't cry in front of his abusers. Exacly what happend to Lionel and Bors in their story.
I think i made my point very clear, and i think you get what i mean.
Ok what the fuck does this have to do whit Lancelot's tears?
Not satisfacted whit giving me a headache from all this comparisons, my mind decided to give me more. Lancelot and his cousins swapped their storys/fates, that means Lionel and Bors scaped and now are living whit an adoptive mother looking for Lancelot. And perhaps Hector also sufferd the same fate, cause both brothers, Lionel and Bors, were kidnaped and kept imprisoned in the legends, then maybe it would make sense if Lancelot and Hector were whit the paladins.
But what about Lancelot being a total cry baby? He can't cry anymore. He'll have to learn how to express his feeling all over again.
My ADHD mind jut gave me the most perfect headcanon were, at first, Carden would not make them supress his feelings cause he knows that if he did, they would break and turn their backs to him sooner or later. But he had to do it. Why? Cause Lancelot is and the others are ashkids, and the ashfolk has a devine cry.
Devine cry. (Let me explain myself, alright? I promisse this can be good.)
As i was creating a reason for the Ashfolk marks in Lancelot's backstory story, i wrote about how Aed, the red, Celtic God of fire, created the ashfolk out the first ashes that fell after the very first fey fire being summoned on earth. Or the second version and particularly my favorite: the ash folk and fey fire were created of Aed's tears when humans murdered one of his creations, his tears burn the earth where it were killed, and so the ashes fell from them. Aed not bearing the suffering, takes the ashes and creates a new form of life, made to sense the danger whit their noses and capable of desgising among the nature. Marking their faces whit tears and as black as the ashes they were made from. Giving them the ability of making fey fire and a cry closer to his own suffering than the humans.
Whit that, the ashfolk were made, and whit them the protectiveness of Aed and the fey fire. The ashfolk had one regular diferential in their cry, they didn't cry very often, cause no one wanted to mess whit Aed new creation after seing him cry and get mad, but one day a person was stupid enough to mess whit of them. And they cried.
"When the humans heard the cry of the young ashkid, they could not describe it other than a beautiful sound that at the same time made their souls break into ten billion pieces. They claimed to hear a cry closer to an angel than to any human."
I thought about making their tears black, but then i trowed it out cause a human, a man-blood, would never call black tears beautiful. So insted, i'm thinking about their tears as something very clear, a transparent but angel-like tear that fall from their eyes like waterfalls. And I'm absolutely pleased whit that.
This would explain why Carden had to supress the ashkids feelings. Cause everytime Lancelot or any other ashkid cried, Father Carden heard about how the paladins cried along whit them until they pass out, and the ones who didn't went to cry in his feet begging him to free the childs.
Because the ashkids cry were so devine, so angel-like, in the sounds and color, even in the way it fell from their eyes, that any human would simply not bear to hear it. And whit that, Carden toke the decision of supressing their feeling, even if he kew it was a bad decision.
Time to imagine the lil scene (lancewain as always.)
[strawberry blonde]
As Guinevere and the raiders has arrived, they brought news whit them, as always, but this day something went diferent. Guinevere come to the healers tent, were Lancelot and Pym worked. She went whit the especific notice for Lancelot, and asked for Gawain's and Nimue's presence because it would be something they would need to hear later. What she didn't expect was that Lancelot would completely burst into tears when he heard the news.
The Red Spear had come whit the news that two ashmans were found by the east-southeast, one whit red hair and the other whit redish-blond hair, both whit green eyes, and the red head had a lion swened in his chest.
When the information left her lips, she heared the most soft and breaking heart sound she had ever heard in her life.
Everyone in the room turned their faces to Lancelot, founding him now leaned against the stone table they examined the pacients, the clearests tears they ever seen rooling down his cheeks as a waterfall, his tear marks seems to get clearer as the tears flowed. His sounds were so quiet, yet so breath taking, so lovely and painful that for a moment, the ones present felt their knees weaken. He looked like an angel crying.
Guinevere had to left before she herself cried, but she didn't know she wanted to cry.
What anyone knew, is that the ashmans in the east-southeast were Lancelot's cousins. Which he didn't saw since he was kidnaped as a kid. And even with all the training and preparation to suppress his feelings, he couldn't hold back his tears hearing the news that they were alive, and on this land. Tears were rolling down his eyes before he could realize it.
Gawain couldn't belive what he was seeing. Lancelot was crying, and he sounded absolutely devide. He looked so broken, yet so beautiful.
His body doesn't seem to move for a moment, but then he readily moves to comfort the crying man, hugging his body slowly and carefully. His heart broke a little more when he felt Lancelot flinch from the hug, because of he wasn't used to that or any form of affection.
Within seconds he feels his friend's facade break and bury his face in the crook of his neck. The almost non-existent sobs seem louder now that they are so close, Lancelot's tears wet the fabric of his shirt, and without even knowing why, Gawain's own tears begin to silently descend.
Apologies
This actually went way bigger than i thought, so if you read it till there, either you are really hiperfixed on the weeping monk, or you just had a fucking time. Either ways, thank you for reading.
Hunted kisses for you ❤️

Why everyone always forget in some versions of the tale Lancelot was raised by Nimue/Vivienne?
Queen Igraine was also Nimue's sister (again, not all versions are like this, just my favorite one). That makes Arthur his foster cousin and his romance with Guineviere even more akward.

I am a demanding creature. I am selfish and cruel and extremely unreasonable. // @avilionea (nimue) to morgan !!
__________♕      DARK GREEN GAZE TAKES IN THE OTHER. there is a spark of power there, perhaps they are two of a kind. they are women born to destiny in a world where men demand they be caged or burn. ambition can be just as much a crime as treason or murder. she had once softened herself for them, played obedient wife, bowed her head when chastized. all it brought her were sorrows && curses heaped upon her head. ❛    my dear, to be a demanding creature is to be aware of what you are worth. && a woman who is aware of her weight in gold is a rare gift indeed.    ❜

It took me awhile, but I finished this a week or two ago! Been working on printing them out for my group, so everyone has a character portrait but still ridiculously proud of this. Also, I'm probably going to keep reposting it and re-blogging it, as I deserve a little self-congratulatory pat on my back. The cast of our Court of Fey and Flowers inspired D&D campaign, King Arthur's Birthday Bash. From left to right: Lord Oberon Riverstone (Monk) Lord Wilbur Treyu (Shadow Sorcerer) Lady Mair Hendwr (Rune Knight, engaged to Lady Nimue) Lady Nimue Du Lac (Bladesinger Wizard, engaged to Lady Mair) High Priest Israfel Nightcatcher (Warlock, the Fiend) Lady Elle Carafina (Queen of Britannia, after her brothers' abdication because he wasn't fond of the position.)

Me and my friends oc Dylan du Lac, son of the Lady of the Lake (also known as Nimue or Viviane) from Arthurian legend!
He wields a unique form of magic he developed himself that lets him wield the power of the 12 western zodiac signs, as well as the Chinese zodiac signs! He is able to turn into 12 different forms based on the western signs, and his normal self (as seen above) is considered his Gemini form, as that’s what his actual sign is. ✨💫✨

Merlin is an easy answer since (at least in Malory) he's specifically named as helping Uther and also (In Malory) he's setting up Galahad-specific parts of the Grail quest long before Galahad was conceived meaning he knew and would likely take steps to ensure Galahad would happen. Such as supplying such a ring or enchantment.(Malory's timelines are thoroughly unclear but i'm pretty sure Lancelot himself is a young child or even not born yet when this happens)
These two are sadly not the only examples within the Du lac/De Gannes family, bc Bors is also """seduced"" with an enchanted ring, though this is more of a love potion deleo instead of making her look like someone he actually likes. Still very much a parallel. There's also a version where King Ban uses some sort of magic disguise to gain access to Hector de Maris' mother and I'm pretty sure Merlin was involved somewhere in that one, though i don't think there was a ring involved.
honestly the idea of love potions love spells ect was really popular and romatizsed (see, Tristan and Iseult; Nimue and Pellas) in other ways and it's..... idk i was going to land this on something smart but i took to long writing it and forgot how. enjoy all this info literally no one asked for ig.
I can't really make a silly comic or meme about the magic disguise ring or the fact that it happened more than once, because the shit people used that ring for isn't funny at all.
But it's wild that it keeps cropping up; with the two most well-known examples being Uther """"""seducing"""""" Igraine with it and Elaine of Corbenic """"""""""""seducing""""""""""""""" Lancelot with it. The fact that it keeps happening makes me wonder if this was just a trope people liked back in the day for whatever reason, or if a bunch of people just independently thought of it with no real influence from the others.
Also I have no idea if they're separate rings or the same ring. I think it's thematically better for it to be the same ring getting passed around just because I think it works really well as a symbol for both the cyclical nature of sexual violence and general generational trauma, showing Uther's influence still affecting people long after he's gone. A guy I've always parsed as a straight up villain and rat bastard even when writers try to make him out to be a Great and Noble king.
If they're separate rings that just begs the question "Who the fuck is making and distributing these fucking rings?"

Ok so like I am SO GLAD you tagged me I know it was just cause of the reblog but. I have SO MANY THOUGHTS ON THIS! (Fair warning, this will be one helluva ramble...)
I 100% believe Lancelot's Ash marks change depending on mood, not just glowing, and here's why;
I found this when looking up Lancelot du Lac lore for my fic;
"[Lancelot's] eyes were bright and smiling and full of delight as long as he was in a good mood, but when he was angry, they looked just like glowing coals and it seemed that drops of red blood stood out from his cheekbones."
Tumblr media
I 100% believe this passage was the original inspiration for his Ash markings.
How interesting that these described marking appear when he's angry- and that he is so affected by anger in general that he can become completely frenzied by bloodlust during battle. We definitely see some of this more brutal side when he's battling in Cursed, he bares his teeth and snarls where normally he is fairly stoic, and is utterly brutal when he wants to be.
So, inital inspiration aside, what about his markings in the show?
The marks NOTICABLY darken at certain points- when he's talking to Gawain, Carden, there during Uther's meeting, Freeing Squirrel etc... they're suprisingly light when he's battling the Trinity, but he has just had seven shades of shit kicked out of him sooooo understandable.
There are many times where they're a light red and parts have faded, and other times where they're so dark they're basically black, and solid too. Just look at the difference in opacity and colour in these! ;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, yes, theres something to be said for different cameras/lighting affecting colour, at most points they seem fairly settled as a darkish red not black, and they're neither fully solid or really faded either.
Yet they also noticably extended when he is in great emotional distress, such as when we learn of his self-flagellation;
Tumblr media
Compare the length on the top row to the last two on the bottom row, the ones where he is upset, they reach down to his jaw, vs stopping around the height of his lips. In the bottom left pic they are beginning to extend- as he is in distress, affected by both Nimue's magic storm and the fact he just accidentally killed a Red Paladin.
So I definitely think they canonically change with "mood" even if they don't always glow.
These changes are, at least in my eyes like you mentioned OP, to do with states of arousal; anger, fear, excitement, euphoria, lust, etc; in these states his powers may well be harder to contain, or it could just be acting as a visual mood ring much like how a boa imperator or crested gecko darkens in colour (fire up vs being fired down) when they are particularly active, hungry/actively hunting, or looking for a mate.
The idea of Lancelot's markings darkening to near black when he's horny lives in my head rent free ngl- just the idea of his markings visibly darkening when he looks at Gawain...
Ok, so they change colour and opacity. What about glowing?
On a slightly less spicy note and back to the original point, as you noticed, OP, the moment at which they glow in Cursed also happens to be when he is surrounded by fire;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The interesting theory you mentioned (and one very commonly accepted as a headcanon within the community) is the idea that Ash Folk could wield Fey Fire. It's SUCH a great theory- Ash is caused by Fire after all, the Fey Fire being rare and ancient, and the Ash Folk supposedly being extinct in Britannia for centuries, it works. The fire symbolism specificaly has been heavy around Lancelot. It's abundantly clear even if it wasn't Fey Fire that made his markings glow that Lancelot has some affinity for fire in general...
Where should I begin? With water? Or with fire...
Now as much as I feel the show seemed to be setting up Nimulot (which I'm all for) I also 100% ship Lancewain, and there was a very interesting connection made between Gawain and Lancelot. A possible reason as to why can be linked back to Fey Fire itself- Fey Fire is GREEN, and Lancelot is only ever shown with glowing RED marks, around normal fire. We know in real life adding copper sulphate or boric acid etc to normal fire can make it burn green. It would be very interesting if the Green Knight's influence on Lancelot allows him to unlock that magic, much like the reactant does the fire.
I'm sure many of us have some ideas on how to ahem ADD Lancelot to Gawain... and let's be fair. And orgasm is a massively high state of arousal soooooooooooooo sex magic sex magic sex magic ANYWAY
Other things of note;
Another unrelated (ish) along the powers/Fey heritage lines that I noticed is the fact that his lips often look far too pale and almost sickly;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Normal (left) vs Pale (right)
The sheer difference between these examples is staggering. They've put deliberate effort into making him look noticably worse whenever he is around Carden, and noticably better when he is in the woods or around Fey. (This isn't a hard and fast rule by any means, his lips paled whilst he was fighting Gawain- worst AFTER suppressing his accidental power- and seem more healthy whilst discussing the caravans with Carden as an example- though he was in the woods then.)
Still, it's enough to make a tenuous connection between nature/Fey and health, and church/humans and sickness.
Given that he also seems to limp at times, then his self flagellation may have been the least of his worries with the Church, if denying his Ash Folk heritage was having repercussions on his health...
(Though admittedly that latter idea could be down to Daniel Sharman breaking his ankle during filming)
It stands to reason that using and accepting his powers and Fey Heritage may make him healthier overall.
From everything I've seen, this is what I decided to include in my own story;
I have Lancelot unable to access Fey Fire (at least for now), but he and other Ash Folk in his childhood could wield fire.
I have his Ashfolk markings change with mood, and glow in the same situations that a Skyfolk's Fingers of Airimid may show.
I'm also toying with the idea of having his eyes change colour/glow when in pain, particularly angry, when using magic, or aroused.
Partially this last idea was inspired by the passage I initially included, as it describes his eyes glowing like coals, as well as Daniel Sharman's character in Teen Wolf, Issac;
Tumblr media
Aaaaand partially inspired by his ability to camouflage his skin with leaves (and in the book, this extends to moss and stone as well- maybe bark too)
Tumblr media
This (WIP) excerpt from an upcoming chapter I'm writing that brings it all together;
"...It was said the Ash Folk were the original founders of Fey Fire, that only they had the ability to summon and wield it." Gawain finished, watching the look of faint suprise- or was it shock that crossed the Fey's face? Lancelot guarded the look just as quickly as it had come, quiet for a moment, eyes calmly thoughtful. "From what I can recall, there were none alive that remembered the power our ancestors once held..." Lancelot said, still looking away, watching the fire now with a sudden intense focus. Before Gawain could speak again, he continued quickly; "But..." Lancelot stood, walked over to the flickering torch, then took a wavering breath. He outwardly seemed calm, but the hitch in that anticipatory inhale betrayed a sudden nervousness that hadn't seemed to be there moments ago. Lancelot locked eyes with him, fixing Gawain now with that unnervingly intense gaze, and Gawain could only gape in shock when they began to burn like the flickering flame he had just somehow summoned from the sconce into his hand. The fire in his eyes set his markings alight, glowing like crackling embers that dripped across his cheeks. The torch still burned, but the flame was lower, weaker now from what Lancelot had taken from it. Lancelot's still coppery eyes watched the flame in his palm, smiling lightly as if greeting an old friend. "Perhaps... there's some truth in it." Lancelot told him quietly. Gawain nodded, mutely, in awe as Lancelot flicked his wrist and the fire returned to the torch, which in turn burned back to its brightest self. Lancelot's eyes were steel blue once more as he strode back to sit beside Gawain again, though his markings had turned black as soot. Even his skin seemed healthier, like the fire had revitalised him somehow...
Internal Ashfolk Markings
The internal markings thing is SUCH a cool idea, with everything else we've seen so far in canon, there's every potential this could be a thing!
That image of Gawain and Lancelot is fuckin FIRE! If I may add; Lancelot's eyes also glowing, and his skin rapidly changing colour as he loses ahem "control" during sex, like when he accidentally chameleons his skin when Gawain hurts his hand and he touches the leaves...
And y,know, say if Gawain's Skyfolk Fingers of Airimid were to appear, they're like fern leaves right? Imagine Lancelot either accidentally or deliberately touching Gawain's skin and the vines creeping across Lancelot's skin too as Lancelot subconsciously mimics them. (Oh no, how embarrassing if that were to happen in front of someone in a less spicy scene...)
Your idea is awesome OP and I LOVE IT.
TLDR; I DEFINITELY think his Markings change and glow with states of arousal, there's enough evidence to suggest that his eyes would too, and his health may or may not be directly impacted by the repression of his emotions, heritage and potential magic.
If you read all this, you're a fuckin legend, but holy hell, sorry this ended up being a lot longer than I thought it would whoops!
Can we talk about how Lancelot's marks glow when he is near fire in the first episode?
So, i was rewatching Cursed on the netflix for the god know how many time, and i just tought like: "Oh i should try to pay a bit more of attention to the details this time, after all i'm writing a fanfic, this would help me a lot in the criative process." But then my eyes catch in the very first scene of the Weeping monk and i just notice his tear marks glow bright red when he is in the woods burning, killing the moon wings.
My mind absolutely stoped when i saw that. Cause what do you mean Lancelot's, marks glow and i never noticed that? What kind of incredibly effective and devilish wicked spell is that? Or perhaps that was just my ADHD working again... Anyways, i am just absolutely obsessed whit this.
OK, SO WHAT IF LANCELOT'S MARKS COULD GLOW WHIT MORE THAN JUST FIRE?
Any incredibly unlucky person who has the pleasure of knowing me know that i am absolutely hiperfocused in the Arthurian legends, but i still don't know how to deepens this hiperfixation since i didn't born in one of those countries where the Arthurian legends are part of their folklore. But one specific thing about Lancelot got in my mind, that is the fact that he cries a lot, but also doesn't know how to express himself properly, and then i just got this idea when i saw the marks glowing: "What if i could make this glowing marks thing a way of him expressing emotions since he is bad whit words and facial expressions?"
And that's exactly what am i going to do.
From now on, i have this headcanon that Lancelot's marks glow when he feels too strong emotions or feelings. For example: If he is too embarassed, along whit his blushing cheeks, his marks will glow slight pink too. And if he is too sad, his marks will glow in deep wine-color.
But what if i could go even further?
Hear me out in this one. The idea of Lancelots marks glow whit strong feeling and emotions is cool, right? But what if it went further?
I don't know how to explain, (actually i do but that's just cause i like how it sounds) but how about the idea of the Ashfolk having inner marks?
This might sound like a crazy idea or one of those you just have at 03:06 AM while is surviving on only coffee and refuses to sleep. BUT IT SOUNDS SO COOL IN MY MIND. Like, they have tear marks that possibly glow in the fire, but what if they also had inner marks in their lungs and heart that also can glow whit overwhelming feelings?
And that could also give and opening for a possible fire power, cause if they marks glow inside their bodys and react to the fire, who said they cannot actually procreate fire, more especificly fey fire?
I am probably going to be more obcene than i expected but, can you only imagine if Lancelot were having sex whit someone (i'd say Gawain but if you're a Nimulot shipper that fits too) and he is just so overwhelmed whit the pleasure and wonderful new sensations that his heart and lungs glow in pleasure while he archs his back and moan like a fucking wh0re gripping the bed sheets as if for his dear life? well i can, and it's absolutely marving.
And finally, conclusion.
My point is, i didn't notice it the first time i watched, but this is just a too good oportunity for head canons and roamtic fanfics promps to just let it pass.
My head canon is made, and is not just about him but the hole ashfolk. They have marks inside their bodies, in the lugs and heart, and the obvious ones in the face. And the marks glow whit strong or overwhelming feelings/emotions, or when they are near/surrounded by fire.
And just for the sake of it, the last part on the "What if i could go even further" topic was just cause i saw a reblogged post by @lancedoncrimsonwings of a suggestion of a fic called "Came a lot" of the weeping monk by @baezen, and i just tought it whoul fit in very well.
Hunted kisses for you❤️

AU-gust Day 11: Twisted Fairy Tale
"The days may come, the days may go. But still, the light of memory weaves the blissful dreams of long ago."                       —The Queen of Air and Darkness, T.H. White
She is Bonnie Bennett...or is she?
The strange dreams she's been having since she was a child have returned, becoming more vivid, bringing headaches and nosebleeds, especially without the power of a hundred dead witches shielding her magic. The answers may lie with the Originals - the very people Bonnie and her friends are desperately trying to destroy.
So begins a journey of conflicting prophesies, fabled kings, magical swords, doppelgängers, and the power of loyalty centuries in the making.
It isn't called Mystic Falls for nothing.
(The one where Bonnie Bennett is also Nimue, the Lady of the Lake.)

Nimue is such an underrated character.
There is one (kinda forgotten) version put Queen Igraine as her sister, Arthur's aunt. The role of 'Merlin's student and lover' is often shared with her niece Morgan Le Fey.
Lancelot of the Lake was called that because he and his cousins, Lionel and Bors, were raised by a 'lake spirit/fey', that created the interpretation that he's was raised by the Lady of the Lake and kinda a pseudo-changeling (pls give us a Cryptid Lancelot) That would make him Arthur's foster cousin, it would be interesting to explore this version considering his relationship with Guinevere.
And Nimue's feelings about all of it too. About her sister's marriage, her niece's actions, her foster son's affair, maybe about Galahad, Gwaine and Mordred. It so unexplored. Also, give me a Fey Queen!Igraine.
Now, I kinda imagine Lancelot asking Nimue's help to find the Holy Grail and she pulls a Mom and went all 'if I go there and find it, I'll rub it in your face'.
And, since she made Excalibur, its far we should get a Blacksmith!Nimue
At the time of King Arthur's popularity, writing something new instead of it was just mad, so many authors just straight up created a new kingdom, knights, friends and foes and gave some bullshit excuse to relate them to Camelot and Arthur's knights. So there a lot of unknow ocs that cannot coexist. King Arthur had a lot of love interests, wifes, sons and daughters, but none got popular as Lady Guineviere and Mordred.
Igraine also had two other more unknow daughters in some versions, Elaine and Morgause, the latter sometimes the mother of Gawain or just mixed with her sister Morgan. Nimue and Morgan were also the same person in some tales, but the controversy of the character (Arthur's Ally/Enemy, his sister/a fairy, sometimes Merlin's student and lover) split them in the end.
For all Silmarillion Fans: Igraine should be written similar to Melian
Edit: this is ONE version of the tale, its okay if the one you know isn't like that

PERSONALITY
A nihilist by nature she is her mothers child, crowned with her sorrow. She is her father's child, for she wears the shackles of his temper. she is flighty as she is feral. Gentle as she is wild. She can see the goodness in her brother's smile, but cannot find it in herself, no matter how she tries.
NEED TO KNOWS
Whereas Galahad was the unwanted child, born from coercion and an ill-fated prophecy of Corbenic's downfall ( that is to the say, the double rape regarding both Elaine and Lancelot while within the Cult of Corbenic), Nimue was the wanted child, conceived in the abbey at Corbin, some time after Elaine heals Lancelot of his madness and he decides to stay with her and Galahad( without Elaine's invitation or demand). While Elaine never calls either child Lancelot's, its fairly obvious both are his. The contrast has to do with their respective inherited magical/fae abilities from and how they are perceived by the people around them. Galahad is the golden child, with a lot of pressure to be good from Elaine. He is more normal, his ability to see into the future only in his dreams without any control of them and the common sense to keep quiet about them. Nimue is a wild card, often perceived as a demon or a witch, though while in the care of her mother is very much protected.
She also has the ability to see the future though to a much lesser extent. She can't shapeshift herself, though she can manipulate plants and objects around her. she can change matter, create illusions, and 'jump' place to place. Like Galahad she has next to no control of her powers as Elaine doesn't encourage or know how to teach them since her own powers were incredibly stifled in Corbenic.
Avalon has a claim to Nimue through her maternal grandmother who wanted to give her own daughter, Elaine, to the Isle to stop a prophecy in motion but was hindered by Pelles. Because of this she is abducted soon after Lancelot returns to Camelot, abandoning his family at the Abbey in Corbin. Nimue has always found her way to any significant point in her life by first spotting the White Hart of Arawn and following it as a sort of guide rather than the more common thought to hunt it. it's taken her away to Avalon twice, helped her leave the Isle, lead her to Merlin, and led her to Camlann to get Arthur's body.
Nimue's abduction via following the Hart was the last time she saw her mother. Elaine thought she drowned in the nearby lake. This traumatized Galahad.
Nimue can't swim. She'll try and she'll just sink.
Nimue gets attached to logs. she'll carry it around for a good long while and even give them names if she gets very attached. Merlin's burned a few of her favorites in particularly bad arguments. Galahad brings her back little sticks and cut logs he thinks she'll like.
For my own comfort I would rather Nimue's relationship with any Merlin be plotted and there be open communication regarding the nature of their relationship because the myths and most modern interpretations are sketchy at best. Merlin as a character has one goal and that's Arthur and all that can be achieved through his rule and royal seat at Camelot. However, at the end of all his tangle of multiple futures, trying to shape and mold this perfect future, is Nimue. His perfect other half. When he meets her, he laments that she isn't perfect, that she's born too late. She's feral, she's untrained. She isn't his Nimue. So he takes it into his own hands to train her, much to Nimue's own resistance. Their relationship is complicated at best, but as fate described, they are destined for each other. Nimue rejects this. He's too old, he's too set in his ways and he scares her. While they bring out the best in each other they also bring out the worst and Nimue certainly feeds into the negative parts of Merlin's aging mind. She has no problem during her time with him in Arthur's court, making him feel insecure and paranoid, intent to get away from him. Her fear and his controlling nature, for better or for worse, is one of the reasons she traps him in a tree, despite the fact that he hones her powers and her skills, enhancing what she learned on Avalon and making it comprehensive to her. they don't hate each other, but if there was love it wasn't very good. if Galahad hadn't come to Arthur's court she would have done anything to leave. Reuniting with Galahad is the only good thing in Camelot ad if being trained by Merlin is her ticket to stay with her brother then she'll endure it.
