Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, 37417 Niles Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536

Niles Fremont’s claim to fame is that it was an important locale in the early days of motion pictures. Charlie Chaplin signed a deal to make movies for Essanay Film Company early in his career and he made The Tramp (& other movies) in Niles. The Tramp made him a big star and is still a recognizable character today.

The silent film museum is housed in the building that housed the first movie theater built in Niles. The theater was called The Edison Theater. Chaplin used to watch films in the Edison Theater. The museum has a variety of old movie cameras, photos of Essanay Film Company and other silent films that were made in Niles. They have a few of the original theater seats on display.

It’s a small museum and the gift shop is almost as large as the museum. The gift shop has a lot of silent movie DVDs, posters, postcards, books, tote bags, Charlie Chaplin plush dolls, stickers, etc.

The best part of the museum is probably the small, 100-seat Nickelodeon theater where they still screen silent films every Saturday night with live music accompaniment.  The theater screen is much smaller than the modern movie theater but probably similar to what it was in the early days (just a guess). IT’s also wired for sound. And they sell drinks, popcorn and candy. Movies are $8 for members and $10 for non-members (suggested donation).

The building’s landlord left the property to the museum in her will. Museum admission is free and donations are accepted. The museum is open on weekends from 12 – 4 PM. I find it interesting but I grew up in Fremont. People who enjoy silent films would also find it interesting.

If the HSS characters were a heist crew in TH:M

Feel free to add any thoughts or suggestions, my brain farted out on ideas for the last two of these

The Mastermind/Leader (Role of TH:M MC): Maria or Michael.

I know. The obvious answer is to put the MC here, they're the glue that holds the group together and all. But since the HSS MC is a very flexbile character, I've decided to leave their position a little more ambiguous. They're in whatever role you feel suits your MC the best :)

So besides MC, I've decided to put both Maria and Michael here. I can't pick one or the other. With Maria's experience in organizing missions such as the Ollie the Tiger investigation and the Principal Isa investigation, and Michael's experience

The Genius (Role of Rye): Maria, or maybe Aiden?

I mean, come on. This one speaks for itself.

The Demolitionist (Role of Eris Huang): Koh, Skye, or Michael.

Koh has the pyromania energy, but Michael and Skye would have the technical skill.

The Hacker (Role of Samira/"Blackbird" or Anton Edison): Michael

This motherfucker learned how to pick locks from Nancy Drew books. And she seemingly knows how to break into safes too (granted she does have a little more trouble with it).

So, here’s the superhero origin story of my newest Public Domain superhero story idea starring Michelle Young (a.k.a. “The Cosmic Rockstar Mickey Starlight”) where she’s a hardworking Korean American single mother & a former 80’s & 90’s power metal rockstar who went by the stage name of “Mickey Starlight” before she had gotten herself knocked up during a very passionate romantic date with her band’s drummer & late husband named Jea Young as she ultimately had to retire from her own music career early so that she can properly raise her own rather rambunctious twin daughters Hana & Duri Young as she also discovered later in life that she’s actually the daughter of a long forgotten Golden Age Martian Superhero/Cereal Mascot named “Volto From Mars” as she ultimately had to deal with a second “Martian Puberty” later in life as a middle age single mother of two as her own Martian genetics finally kicked in as she’s now able to freely transform herself back & forth from her usual human self into her newly discovered Martian form on command nowadays as she now plans to revive her own music career as “The All-New Mickey Starlight” while also battling various supervillains from both Earth, Mars & Beyond while also keeping her new double life as a cosmic superhero rockstar a secret from her two twin daughters who also happened to be the biggest fans of her own superhero rockstar alter ego as well!!

Rowan Austin (Scream OC). Rowan never really wanted to move to Lakewood, but in the middle of his parents’ messy divorce he decided it was better to go live with his grandmother than it was to stay in the house. Not that he and his grandmother see eye-to-eye on a lot of things - and she refuses to accept the fact he’s gay which causes more tensions between the two of them. But, as the Lakewood Slasher rears their head, and Rowan finds himself spending more and more time with Audrey and Noah in the hopes of figuring out what the hell he’s moved into with this town, he just has to hope he’s kept a low enough profile not to become a target himself.

Justin Ingram (Noughts + Crosses OC). Nephew to Jack Dorn, Justin’s found himself to be something of a local legend off the back of that relationship. Not that he enjoys it, far from in fact. Justin hates what his uncle is doing to try and change things, hates that there needs to be that kind of violence. So, when he hears about the program to get Noughts into Mercy Point, he takes the opportunity and seeks refuge with an old friend elsewhere in the city.

Ryder Jessup (Doom Patrol OC). To most, Ryder may look ordinary. But an explosive temper isn’t just an irritant to him, it literally explodes. Following a fire at his school, Ryder almost died but was saved by Niles. Unfortunately, as a way of preventing him from dying, some of the fire had to be kept in him; whenever this temper overcomes him he is out for a few hours to recuperate. Larry is the one who helps him the most, but losing The Chief makes it even more difficult for him to keep these negative emotions under control.

Dmitry ‘Dima’ Kovalev (Grishaverse OC). Born to a low family, Dima always wanted to make something of himself and thus did everything in his power to become a guard. When he was younger, he crossed paths with Nikolai Lantsov and they ended up in the Infantry together as Ravkans. While his friends did all they could to escape Os Alta, he is the only one to return, and to train to be a guard. So, when the Darkling starts to show his true colours, and the Sun Summoner arrives in the city, Dima wonders if maybe the others didn’t have the right idea by getting out when they could.

Griffin 'Griff’ Quintero (Red Queen OC). Red Griff works in the castle as an undercover agent for the Scarlett Guard. Despite Cal’s attempts to be kind towards him, the amount of times he proves that there is more to some Silvers than meets the eye, Griff never truly lets his guard down. He tries his best to keep an eye on Mare when she arrives, and is always seen nearby despite knowing that she can look after herself; especially as she gains control over her powers.

Mason Shipton (The Larten Crepsley Saga OC). When Mason was younger he was nearly killed by a rogue Vampaneze, however upon realising how useful his affluent family links might be, another Vampaneze decided to turn him in the hopes of saving his life. Life as a half-Vampaneze is something that he doesn’t enjoy, and by the time he finally finds it in him to run away, he stumbles upon the Cirque. While there he meets Larten, and is blooded as a vampire by Paris Skyle - though, no one fully explains to him about the possible risks.

Kyle Yuris (Divergent OC). As far as anyone knows, Kyle Yuris is dead. He died in an accident when he was young, before he got the chance to go to the Choosing Ceremony. But that’s not true. At an early age, Kyle showed signs of Divergance and was removed from the city in the hopes of understanding a little more about why he presented so early. Keen to learn more about everything that’s happening, Kyle can usually be found in the labs - in keeping with his Erudite training. As he gets older, he works alongside Matthew.

Edison 'Eddie’ Zeller (All For the Game OC). Like most of the Foxes, Eddie’s life hadn’t been great. An abusive mother and alcoholic absent father meant he spent most of his life on the street, practicing Exy. He is a backliner but has tried in every position to see how well he does, to push himself at bettering his game by understanding the other positions. Despite being the year below the Upperclassmen he is closest to them - the others scare him a little with the exception of Nicky. Eddie has dyslexia, and occasionally Matt helps him with work when it’s all getting a little too overwhelming.

Penn (Zombieland OC). Penn lived near Columbus’s University dorms and the two of them are working together to get back home, despite not really knowing each other or even getting along. Where Columbus is nervous, Penn has the confidence that only a younger teenager can have; the conqueror of the world feeling that is something Columbus reminds him will get him killed. Despite their differences, however, it is obvious that the two of them look out for each other as well, having worked out a sibling-like relationship.

After The Afterparty - Niles Edison

A/N: This is just a little self-indulgent fic I’ve had in mind for a while, featuring the man Choices for some reason will not let me marry ;-; (unless there’s gonna be a Heist Book 3: Wedding Edition?)

Entry for the @choicesnovemberchallenge Prompt was ‘Alcohol’ Niles Edison x F!MC (Lee) Rating: Alcohol/Minor Adult Themes Summary: The crew celebrate their last night together after a successful heist, and Lee wonders what the future holds

  After the initial thrill from seeing the enormous pile of bills, the crew separate into different places around the suite to chat, reminiscing on the heist and some already making plans for a future job. Lee watches the group fondly, Eris by her side, the pair sipping on some cocktail Eris invented containing far too much alcohol. Across the room, she sees Tillie gesturing animatedly as she tells some story to Niles and Rye. Niles catches Lee’s eye, and the corner of his mouth twitches into what almost passes as a smile before he looks away again. This didn’t go unnoticed by Eris, who elbows Lee in the ribs and mimes blowing a kiss. Lee rolls her eyes and sips on the last of her drink, fighting a smile of her own.

“Any plans for tonight then?” Eris pokes at Lee, still grinning. “If there’s anyone you were planning on getting some alone time with, tonight’s our last night together.” Her voice almost trails off at the end, the realisation bringing a sombreness to their conversation.

“Only for a little while, E.” Lee avoids her question, stirring the ice in her cup with the straw. “No rest for the wicked, huh? I’m sure after the heat has died down a little Rye will have something planned.”

Eris gives her friend a look, not breaking eye contact with her as she takes a long drink. Lee refuses to meet her eyes, searching the room for anyone besides Eris or him. She knows Eris won’t stop until she admits to her midnight trysts with the thief but it’s something the pair had agreed to keep between themselves. It’s the sort of thing that would have altered the group’s dynamic, and a change like that could throw the whole job down the drain, not to mention the inevitable teasing. Eris, of course, had figured it out one night after the Lee and Niles had returned from a spontaneous late-night heist of their own and ended up pressed against the wall outside the safe house in a heated exchange.

Lee sighs and rolls her head to look at Eris. “Look, I don’t really know what’s happening, ok?” She passes her empty glass to Eris. “But whatever it is, I promise I’ll tell you everything,” she pauses for a second. “After all of this is over.” With that, she walks over to the collection of alcohol they’ve amassed for the occasion, and pours herself a simple yet strong mix.

Several cocktails consisting of too much alcohol later, Eris is still pestering Lee for details, stopping only when someone walks too close, or to make another drink. “But surely,” her words are almost slurred, and she blinks more slowly than usual. “Surely he’s good right? I mean, he has a kid. That means he’s gotta be good. You have to tell me something.” She pleads, pouting when her friend won’t share the details. They tell each other everything! It’s not fair!

Lee rubs the bridge of her nose, and inhales through her teeth. She knows Eris is just looking out for her, but after nearly two hours it’s just a little bit annoying. Time to put her to bed. ‘Maybe also time for bed too.’ She thinks, almost stumbling as she stands and pulls Eris to her feet. Rye notices them, and moves to take Eris’ other arm, helping Lee drag her to her room.

“Drunk?” He raises an eyebrow in Lee’s direction as they approach the door of the suite. The crew all have rooms nearby, and luckily Eris’ isn’t too far.

“Nah. Just a little bit buzzy,” she smiles. “Definitely not as drunk as this one anyway.”

Eris mumbles something at the pair as they reach her room, pulling the hotel key from inside her bra. Lee stifles a laugh at Rye’s amused expression, looking thankful Eris was coherent enough to unlock her own door. They tuck her in, Eris giving Lee a wink as they head out of her room.

“Think I’m gonna turn in too.” Lee says, after they close the door. Truthfully, she doesn’t quite want to return to the room without Eris to be a distraction, even if she was driving her up the wall. Rye nods, and after a brief goodnight, they head in opposite directions down the corridor. Lee is almost at her door, when she feels a familiar presence behind her. She smiles to herself, not saying a word, but entering her room and leaving the door to close behind her.

When she doesn’t hear the door click shut, she huffs a small laugh. “Not staying at the party?” She asks, turning around to face her shadow.

“I’m not exactly one for parties,” Niles smiles softly, letting the door fall shut behind him and slowly crossing the room to where she stands. “Besides, the party left when you did.”

Lee scoffs and rolls her eyes. “You’re such a charmer.” She hums, closing the gap and raising her face to his. “But that works for me.” She presses their lips together, tasting the whiskey on his tongue and resting her hands on his waist. The buzz in her head intensifies when she feels him push her backwards, her back connecting with the wall. She slides her hand up his shirt, feeling his breath catch when she rakes her fingers gently down his chest.

Niles deepens the kiss, his fingers ghosting across her cheek, down her neck, against her ribcage, along her thigh. Lee is sure he can feel her heart beating against her chest, her pulse pounding in her ears. He stops just short of the hem of her dress, his kisses becoming teasing, pulling her leg up to wrap around his waist as they press against the wall.

She opens her eyes, blinking twice to adjust her vision, and tugs on his silver hair to disconnect their lips. His head tilts slightly, gaze darkening as she grinds their hips together in a slow movement, her leg resting at his lower back and holding them together. They share a heated glance before reconnecting, more intense than before. At this point, she isn’t sure how much of the dizziness in her head is alcohol and how much is the desperate need she feels for the man before her. She feels his fingers squeeze gently into her thigh as he pushes his own between her legs, pinning her between him and the wall.

His glasses dig slightly into the bridge of her nose as they kiss, so Lee pulls back ever so briefly to slide them off and unceremoniously drop them onto the dressing table. She feels him smile against her, before he returns to his usual, more serious demeanour and pulls them back together. The kiss becomes more heated as time passes, until Lee’s legs are practically numb. Eventually, Niles falls back separating them only slightly, still holding her in place between his chest and the wall. A comfortable silence hangs between them as they catch their breath. Several seconds pass, before Lee steps forwards and joins their lips together again, walking backwards to her bed and pulling him down on top of her.

Few words pass between them that night, and even fewer the following morning. Neither are sure what the future holds, whether they’ll meet again after the crew go their separate ways later that day. But until then, Lee is content to rest in Niles’ arms. A very successful heist indeed.
