4 am in the morning. Kaylo, his face shrouded between the overhead lights, waits up for a friend of his. Contemplation written over his face. Maybe it isn't so bad to leave this sort of life, even though he knows for sure that he's wrapped tight in this underworld business. It's probably a good time right now before a bullet gets burrowed deep in the back of his head.

But his sentimentality for the town has him gripped the tightest. He's probably really the only one who's been holding himself back to grow up, for the sake of staying comfortably within where he grew up.

It is snowing. My tinnitus is acting up. I am on enough caffeine to kill a child. I have not slept in nearly 24 hours. I have probably 12 more hours of work at LEAST until I can sleep. It’s possible that I won’t be going home for a couple days. I am re-rewatching Horimiya (dubbed this time, just for kicks). I am at work. They don’t care if I watch anime at work. It’s only been snowing for about an hour and a half. There is a thin layer of ice on the sidewalk, and possibly the street.

I wanted this. I enjoy this. I may be tired, but I am also at my most content.

It is -7°C. It feels like -14. It will keep snowing all night and all of tomorrow.

I am freezing. I am wearing too many jackets. I stole one of Zyl’s hijabs to wear as a scarf. It is comfortable. I am comfortable.

The city streets are beautiful in this weather.

This is why I enjoy working night shifts.
