In 2018, Americans generated 2.7 million tons of consumer electronic waste (including e-cigarette waste) that, if disposed of in a standard refuse bin, ends up in landfills or incinerators. The exponential rise in disposable e-cigarettes and single-use pod-style devices, such as Juul, are compounding the tobacco waste problem. In 2022, two of the ‘big 4’ companies launched new disposable e-cigarettes into this fast-growing market. These devices and refill pods cannot be recycled with other plastic waste because they are contaminated with nicotine. Also, like other e-cigarettes, they contain lithium batteries. Even if these devices are not littered, the metal ends up in landfills – enough waste to make 1200 car batteries every year. A 2022 Lancet article suggested that e-cigarettes are likely to be particularly damaging to the planet because they lead to three types of product waste, including batteries, e-liquid containers, and packaging.

hello. you can crack open any of these "disposables" like an oyster and refill them. you don't need to throw a lithium battery away just because the e-juice ran out. buy some e-juice. it's cheap. or make your own. you can drip it into the top of the sponge in there or take the sponge out and soak it or use a syringe to saturate the sponge from top to bottom directly. be careful not to rip the delicate little wires off the circuitboard or the battery, but even if you did, you could re-solder it. "disposable" vapes are one of the biggest consumer scams going rn and it makes me really mad
the lithium and cobalt in these batteries are being destructively mined from multiple places in the world including Congo. you can save an enormous amount of money, time, and avoid contributing to mineral exploitation all at once with this one weird trick
edit: please don't refill nicotine vapes with weed oil or weed vapes with nicotine liquid. different kinds of vapes and also there will be an oil/water problem. refill nicotine vapes with nicotine liquid and weed vapes with weed oil. don't cross-contaminate. I don't think anything catastrophic will happen, I just think it will break the vape and waste your time

Blackleg Sanji; Baratie Headcanons
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Sanji spends a good deal of his free time in the kitchen even if he isn’t preparing meals or snacks. Sometimes he’ll take inventory over his food supplies thrice over in one sitting just to make sure he has everything the crew needs.
Sanji doesn’t smoke in the kitchen. He feels as though it is unprofessional, contaminates his materials and workspace, and hurts the atmosphere of the kitchen. Zeff taught him this because when he started to smoke the first time he did so in the kitchen Zeff caught him and smacked him red in front of the customers.
He started smoking because he wanted to seem like a man and impress Zeff (we know this) but it more so stems from him not wanting to be a helpless child and wanted control over himself which he was stripped of during his time at germa.
Sanji absolutely despised the taste of his cigarettes. He still does to some extent. But he when the nicotine filled his lungs it began to bring a sense of calm over him which helped him not have to deal with his trauma and anxiety.
Has smoked over two packs in a day multiple times before. It gets like this around his birthday. Zeff used to have to hide all cigarettes in the Baratie from Sanji.
Zeff gave Sanji his lighter because he wanted Sanji to look more professional and told him, ‘if you’re gonna smoke like a man, you need a man’s lighter.’
Tried cigars, it affected him much more than cigarettes and Zeff banned him from using them.
Wasn’t taught by any of the other cooks how to flirt, it came very natural for him. He absolutely crashes and burns if he gets flirted with back.
Has swooned a total of 4 girls in his years at the Baratie:
The first girl had only gone to chaste kisses and light caresses before the cooks found them in the bathroom.
The second was a little too tipsy and Sanji stopped anything from happening when she tried pressing herself all over him and grabbing him in the dining room.
The third one looked old enough to go to be his mother and gave him a blowjob before he freaked out and ran away from her before things escalated (he wasn’t ready and gets nightmares about it still).
The fourth girl was the first time he had ever properly touched a female but it was only some fingering and heavy making out before she pushed him off of her, thanked him for passing time with her, and walked out.
Is well acquainted with the Baratie regulars. Has spoken to Mihawk a good amount of times, knows the type of wine he requests. Gets freaked out by his sharp stare when he turns his back to him though. (Mihawk IS a regular.)
Has gotten into multiple cook offs with the other chefs, but always loses according to Zeff (Zeff’s the final judge).
The curl of his eyebrow forms a little heart inside of the big swirl. Tried shaving off the curl of his eyebrow but it grows back that way. Patty told him to stop trying to get rid of it so he did.
Zeff has added some of Sanji’s dishes to the regular menu, Sanji cries each time he sees the newest addition. Zeff never acknowledges it.
When he was being taught how to fight by Zeff, his perfect practice often became troublesome customers. Zeff encouraged it so much which is why up till he left Sanji was the most likely to get into a fight with customers.
Has scammed a good amount of berri from some of the marines that visit if we’re being honest. If he doesn’t like their attitude, he will up their bill significantly. Has gotten called out on this multiple times. Denies it every time.
Zeff bought him his first suit and taught him how to tie a tie. Wore the suit more than a chef’s uniform and apron, never bought him another suit. (Sanji’s obsession with suits got even worse).
Called Zeff dad a handful of times. Each time he would stop and look away for a long second before walking off. He usually went to a spot to cry. It stunned Zeff at first, but then the last couple of times it happened Zeff followed and sat with Sanji until he stopped crying.
Sanji hasn’t told Zeff about his past. The most he mentioned was his mother. Zeff often wonders what happened for a kid to be so traumatized.
Sanji would have nightmares and wake up either screaming or crying when the Baratie first opened up. Zeff would always have to sit by his bedding until he calmed down. Sanji would cry more if any of the other chefs came in.
Has spent so much time on sea that he walks diagonally for a hot minute when he gets on land. Would stumble a lot more on land if his legs weren’t so strong. Has very good sea legs, practically born with them.
French is his mother tongue and it’s the native language of Germa. He was taught English because it’s the most common language among the four blue seas but he had a thick accent when he was young. Zeff couldn’t understand him sometimes when he spoke.
Sanji often refers to food by their French name.
Sanji almost got completely rid of his accent because he felt as though it tied him to Germa. It comes out when’s he aroused or angry though. One time a girl said his French sounded sexy, but he’s on the fence when he’s flirting or trying to dirty talk to let his natural voice and accent come out, sometimes speaking full sentences in French. Regardless, it annoys the shit out of Zeff.

Thinking about Simon Riley on leave.
༶•┈┈୨♡୧┈┈•༶ ༶•┈┈୨♡୧┈┈•༶
He's got a bit of property out in the countryside with a little house sitting on top of it. There is something too suffocating about sharing walls with strangers in the city, toe to toe on the sidewalks and windows facing the uncomfortable civilian normalcy that runs outside. Especially for someone who is off-put by unnecessary social interaction, not looking for the unwanted small talk and advances of others.
It's a bit of a fixer-upper that he hasn't accomplished a lot of repairing to, at least, not on the outside. Who does he have to impress? It's got running water and electricity, the means to keep out the elements, and a king-sized mattress in the bedroom. Simon Riley is satisfied with the simplistic, bare minimum of survival and doesn't need much outside of that. (Yes, that king-sized mattress should be considered the bare minimum of survival for a man his size, thank you very much.)

His house isn't some farmhouse with a white picket fence and wrap-around porch, finished with a wife and 2.5 kids. Those kinds of luxuries stay far out of his reach, away from the contamination that his sickened soul brings and the destruction that seems to trail in his footsteps. So, who cares if it's covered in a thick layer of dust and grime when he finds time to step foot into it, the air heavy and stale without a window opened in months? The refrigerator is barren and defrosted, yet when he searches for the drawer with a couple of haphazardly stored cigarette cartons he’s rewarded for the effort. A little gift from his past self to the present in anticipation of the unsettled nerves that occur here.

He takes the filter of one between his slightly off-kilter teeth and lets the heavy coating of smoke stain his lungs and fill the void. The flame that flickers from his lighter illuminates the tips of his fingers as he pulls the cigarette back. For a moment, he could swear he saw the stain of red under his nails, despite how hard he scrubs his hands under water. Maybe he needs something a little more holy to cleanse away what lies beneath the surface of the calluses and scars embellishing his skin. He runs a hand through his cropped hair, swearing under his breath and making disingenuous mental declarations that he will at least plug that damned fridge back in tomorrow. However, there is no haste in him stepping foot back into town to fill it up.

There is an appreciation for the controlled environment that this seclusion brings, but not necessarily the silence. It's jarring when his ears constantly ring from the consistent cacophony that surrounds the line of work he's a part of. Maybe he constantly has music playing or the TV running—anything to deplete the quietude enveloping him. His joints and muscles ache from the shitty military accommodations coupled with the nearly innumerable old injuries from circumstances long ago: old fractures and breaks, bullet wounds that leave tender sites, and the consequences of several concussions that tail you. It's only after the sun sets and the sky starts to bleed into an inky emptiness that he tries to stretch his legs and breathe anything other than nicotine mixed with the stagnant must of an unexploited house.

It's not that he necessarily needs the curtain of darkness to conceal his incognito here in the middle of nowhere at all, but he has come to be accustomed to it. The dirt and gravel road under his boots don't deter the unexpected lightness and stealth of his gait, though the smoldering red cherry of his next addition to the chain-smoking he is performing pulls focus to his looming silhouette.

He draws the attention of a mangy little creature, half-limping near the desolate road. It comes darting out of a nearby field, and his hand instinctively moves towards a holster no longer strapped to him. But it’s just a dog, one that is certainly not much of a sight compared to the dutifully designed Malinois K-9s he’s been around. It’s likely got fleas, with a lingering stench that’s far from pleasant, yet it marches up to him with an air of certainty as if it’s a prideful show dog. Simon eyes it with a glare that’s withering in his best attempt, but the animal is unfazed by his unapproachable nature, not afraid of his marred face.

“Scram, ya’ filthy mutt.”

His voice is raspy and raw with the disuse it faces off base, from the stretching silence he spends mostly in his head. It just barks back at him in return, a reflection of his own persistent nature. Somehow, the damned thing thinks it’s a good idea to trot along home with him. And somehow, Simon just lets it happen. He hoses him down on the side of the house with a less-than-enthusiastic expression but still throws down a pile of old blankets so that it can rest its weary head. He’s not a fan of having something that’s completely reliant on him- a fragile being that requires a nurturing hand he doesn’t believe he has. The best he can extend is the bare minimum of survival he grants himself currently.

The dog can’t stay forever, like most things in his unpredictable existence. A fleeting reminder of the way that more often than not he’s surrounded by death rather than life. He is more familiar with how to take than to give; his fingers cocked ‘round a trigger. But perhaps he will make that venture out to town tomorrow, the dog hanging its head out the passenger window of his truck. He’ll get something to fill his fridge and something to fill the dog's bowl, the solitude will be a little less consuming.

For now, he scrubs under his nails a little harder.

Moment of Respite
A brief moment of solidarity during a mission, set out on a pier. Takes place in the assassin AU; also posted on AO3.
Caden stared into the gentle, rolling, rippling water, at the brackish brownish-green tone.  He swung his legs like a child in a seat too tall for them and shivered slightly against the wind.  The breeze toyed with his hair, playful, invisible hands lifting and curling raven strands around their fingers.  Thin, twisting strands of smoke danced in the air, and he held the bitter taste in his lungs as he took another drag before exhaling through his nose.  The grey cloud curled before his face, then faded into the pale sky, leaving nothing but its stinging scent.
Apparently Jakob was from just across the river.  Was he across from the Harrison household right now?  Was he looking at Jakob’s great-nieces and nephews now, playing in their yard without a care in the world?  Or maybe his family packed up and moved when Jakob died.  Maybe they weren’t there at all.  Despite keeping tabs on Jakob’s old friends, Caden could never really bring himself to look into his family.  He read his sisters’ names in his obituary; that was enough.
He supposed it didn’t matter.  They weren’t Jakob.  It was better if he forgot they existed.  He’d already forgotten their names; maybe one day their very existences would slip his mind.
Maybe.
Sunny stepped lightly, but the old wood of the pier gave him away immediately, creaking even under his expert movements.  Caden recognised the sound right away — years of memorising footsteps paid off, he supposed.  Sunny stopped a respectable distance away, and for a while, they stayed that way, Sunny’s eyes locked onto the back of Caden’s head, neither speaking up.  He took another breath of smoke, trying not to make it too clear how on-edge Sunny’s gaze set him.
Finally, Sunny’s voice, soft yet clear even over the gentle lapping of waves at water-stained pilings, called out.
“Dinner’s ready.”
Caden nodded.  “Thanks.  I’ll be right up.  Don’t uh… don’t wait for me.”
He half-expected Sunny to turn and leave, but there were no retreating footsteps.  Instead, after a beat, he stepped closer, creaking over rickety wooden boards, to stand behind Caden.  He stood there, gazing out at the land across the water, before sitting down with a huff, dangling his legs over the edge of the boards.
Caden side-eyed him, looking him up and down.  His skin looked livelier in the late-afternoon sun, eyes watching the horizon with that laser focus he so often had.
“Calm down, guard dog, nothing’s gonna jump outta the water,” Caden said, leaning back on one hand and taking a long drag of his cigarette.  Sunny cast him an unamused glance.
“I’m aware.”
They lapsed once again into silence, the waves far below them speaking in their place.  Caden was half tempted to just head back up to the house, the solitary moment broken now that Sunny had joined him — but now, a new sort of moment had formed, tender and fragile, so rare between them.  It was as if one small movement could throw them back into the chaos that all of this had started with.  Maybe that was preferable to this unfamiliar serenity; at least that was befitting of who Caden was now.  This…
This was too much like a different time, one he’d left behind long ago.
He lifted his cigarette to his lips again, hoping to lose that train of thought in the nicotine clouding his broken throat.  Almost instinctively, he turned towards Sunny to blow the smoke into his face, then second-guessed himself and turned away.  The smoke instead escaped into the air beside him, drifting away like a contaminated cloud.
“Thanks,” Sunny drawled, his voice tinged with the slightest bit of sarcasm.
“I could do it if I wanted to,” Caden warned, looking back at him.
“I know.  You do it plenty.”
A playful, unapologetic sorry faded on Caden’s lips.  Instead, he chuckled as his eyes trailed back out to the opposite shore with no real response.  That line of discussion died out quickly as well.
“Y’know,” he said offhandedly, looking down at the river below, “I knew someone who was from around here.”
“From the water?”  In Sunny’s voice, there was a hint of surprise at his openness, though Caden knew he was trying to cover it with a deadpan joke.  Caden rolled his eyes and lifted his cigarette to his lips.
“You know what I mean, asshole,” he teased around the cigarette.  He shoved Sunny slightly; Sunny barely budged, but he smiled, and that was enough.
“I know, I know.”  Sunny raised a hand, signalling for Caden not to touch him again.  Caden pulled away quicker than he meant to, not willing to provoke Sunny any further.  “So they were from the island?”
“Nah.  They lived just across the river.”  He indicated the opposite shore with a hand, the cigarette clamped between his index and middle fingers still burning against the evening sky.
“Were you friends?” Sunny probed, already knowing the answer but carrying on the small talk nonetheless, as if to fill the silence.  Caden glanced at him, wondering if he knew who they were talking about.
If only you knew.
“Not really,” he finally said, lying through his teeth.  “You know I don’t have many friends.”
“Yes, yes, you’re very independent,” Sunny bantered back.  After a moment, he continued, almost offhandedly, “Don’t know why I asked.”
“You should’ve known.”  Caden grinned and Sunny rolled his eyes.  The wind picked up briefly, sweeping a few strands of hair into Sunny’s face, making him sputter slightly as he combed it back.  Caden fought the urge to laugh; his throat ached as he choked down the sound.
As the wind died out again, slowing to a gentle breeze, Caden looked back out to the horizon, where the sun was sinking lower towards the distant hills.  He took another drag of his cigarette, which was now almost completely burned out.  Brows furrowing, he crushed it against the aged wood plan beside him, the embers dying out with a final brief flicker.
“Sunset soon,” he muttered, more to himself than to Sunny.  There was a brief glimpse of movement out of the corner of his eye as Sunny curiously tilted his head at him.  After a moment of deliberation, he returned the gaze, despite how Sunny’s eyes had his stomach twisting fiercely.  Briefly, Sunny’s tongue ran along his upper lip, and Caden tracked the movement nervously.  Dinner was waiting back at the house, right?  How hungry was he now?
Sunny broke their informal staring contest first, looking back to the setting sun.  Had his skin taken on a more vivid tone, or was it just a trick of the light?  Inky strands of hair rode the light river breeze; in this light, he was an otherworldly sort of striking, both human and ethereal, the sun playing nicely on his face.  Like this, he looked almost like someone from a movie, or perhaps the protagonist of a novel.
Or the subject of a painting.
Caden choked on nothingness at the comparison and looked away.  He stared at the horizon, squinting in the warm light of the sunset, eyes narrowed against the sun’s harsh rays.
“We should probably head up,” he finally said, turning to look back at Sunny.  “Don’t want dinner to get c—”
Colours.  Thousands of colours erupted from Sunny’s form, a kaleidoscope of dazzling hues that almost made him look like he was glowing.  Colours Caden had never seen before, colours he didn’t believe were even meant to be seen by the human eye.  It reminded him of a stained glass window when the sun shone through it just right, yet somehow infinitely more mesmerising.  His partner was still gazing into the sunset, head turned away from him, the breeze still combing through his hair and ruffling his thin jacket.  He was still undoubtedly serene, even handsome if Caden allowed himself to think that.  But it was the rainbow, the infinite hues filling Caden’s vision, that captivated him, more brilliant and more enchanting than the warm sunset beyond them.  Reds and blues and golds, every possible mixture of the three, all vivid and brilliant beyond Caden’s wildest dreams.
The Sunset Killer.  That’s what “they” called him, right?  One of the many names Sunny had been given.  Suddenly, it made sense why he’d introduced himself that way, or why anyone had called him that in the first place.  It was as if he were the sunset itself, manifesting on this pier beside him this chilly spring evening; as if he’d vanish with the sun the moment it disappeared below the horizon.
Caden felt the urge to shrink away from him, almost overwhelmed by the colours that had burst into being beside him.  But more puzzling was the desire to reach out and touch him, wondering if he was even real.  As if his hand would simply swipe through Sunny if they made contact, like a child trying to catch a ray of light slipping through their window.
He did neither, instead opting to stare like a fool until Sunny inevitably felt his gaze and turned back to him.  His eyes were as keen as ever, perhaps even moreso with the colours reflecting off of them, leaving specks and gems within their irises.
Caden broke the silence first.
“W… wow.”
Smooth.
Sunny looked like he wanted to laugh.  Instead, he offered a simple half-smile that looked almost pitying.  “You’ve never seen me like this, have you?”
“I haven’t,” Caden admitted, voice raw.  “It’s…”
Incredible.  Captivating.  Beautiful.  Phenomenal.  Fascinating.
“Colourful.”
“Very perceptive.”  The flat delivery struck Caden harder than it usually did.  Sunny could be so obnoxiously charming sometimes — even when he didn’t mean to be.
“I mean.  It’s true.”  Caden waved a hand absently towards Sunny.  “You should see yourself.  So does this happen every sunset?”
Sunny nodded in affirmation.  “Since I…”  He went quiet for a moment and Caden realised he’d hit something sensitive in his unflappable, unbothered roommate.  The silence didn’t last long, however, before Sunny continued, “Since I came back.”
“Well, I wouldn’t’ve expected you to have been like that when you were a person,” Caden responded, trying to gloss over the sudden moment of vulnerability.  “What, do you think I was like this before I died?”
“Shut up.”  There was no venom in Sunny’s words, especially with the small smile curving his lips.
“Never.”  Caden playfully stuck out his tongue, then laughed.  “C’mon, you know you love it.”
“I really don’t,” Sunny insisted.  “I really, really don’t.”
“But you stick around.”
Sunny took hold of the back of Caden’s jacket and pulled him closer, gentler than Caden had come to expect from him, eyes intent as he leaned in.  The colours surrounding him had begun to fade as the sunset began to end, dusk now taking hold of the river.
“I stick around because somebody couldn’t stay put,” he reminded him.  “I wouldn’t have to be constantly holding your leash if you’d just stayed in line.”
And does Mother hold your leash because you can’t stay in line, Sunset Killer?  Does she know how much you hate her?  Do you know how much I used to hate you?  Does she believe she’s forced you into submission the way you’ve done to me?  Declawed you the way I’ve been defanged?
A caged dog will bite if given the chance, Sunny.  The day you finally snap is the day we will both be free.  From each other, and from her.
“Well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore.”  Caden feigned innocence to hide the bitterness in his thoughts.  “I’m stuck here now.”
“Sure.”  Sunny sounded unconvinced.  He released Caden and leaned away again, though his hand remained resting against his back.  “No going back now, though.  We’re stuck together.”
“I know, I know.”  Caden raised his hands in mock surrender.  “I’m used to it by now.  Can we get dinner now?  We’ve kept the others waiting long enough.”
Sunny was silent, mulling something over in his mind.  Caden furrowed his brows as he watched Sunny watching him, acutely aware of the hand still against his back, just between his shoulderblades.  From anyone else, it would be a comforting gesture, but from Sunny, it was anything but — especially with the small half-smirk that had begun to form on his lips.
“Sure.  But first…”
Dread began to form in the pit of Caden’s stomach.  “What’re you—”
And Sunny’s laughter was filled with mirth as he shoved Caden from the pier and into the river below.

Thinking silly thoughts about the Soul Switch arc, and I just realized that Hijikata contaminated Gintoki’s lungs with nicotine while they were in each other's bodies. Now I want Gintoki to realize this, and then go hammering on the Shinsengumi gates with a megaphone yelling about how everyone should beware a specific chain-smoking money-mongering tax thief with V-shaped bangs lest he poison them with lung cancer while they’re in their prime.

'it's 3AM, i must be lonely' or 'i only hear what i want to' (title subject to change) makeupartist!reader x metalbarowner!eddie
“What the hell, Harrington – I said you could film here not turn it into a fuckin’ beauty bar,” he grumbles while production assistants bring in tables and portable light up mirrors. “Makeup is a part of the magic, Munson. What do you want me to say?” he sighs, “You got outlets up here?” Eddie sighs and points over to the back wall where the small DJ booth is. His attention turns to the entryway with Steve’s where you appear with your suitcase – huffing. “So no one could help me with this up the stairs, huh?” you ask Steve sharply. Eddie grins, eyes landing on you like a snake on the vine – real nice to finally see a girl come in here. What kind of sausage fest was Harrington running here anyway? “Sorry, sorry – Mark can you run downstairs and grab her other bag?” Steve’s voice is clipped like you’ve been giving him problems all week. “Any other demands, princess?” he asks with a fake smile, eyes glinting behind his glasses. “Just an extension cord,” you coo back with sweet drippy sarcasm. His walkie talkie crackles to life on his hip, a fuzzy – ‘Hey can we get Steve on channel two? Steve?’ “Munson, can you grab her an extension cord?”  he asks before bringing the walkie to his mouth, “Channel two, go for me.” ‘Steve what’s your 20?’ “HMU, I’m headed your way,” he grumbles, while he stomps out of the room, plugging in his ear piece. Mark comes in with your other suitcase and you thank him, wheeling them over to your set up tables to start to organize. You sanitize the tables before laying down a heap of paper towels only to see a dirty extension cord put on them by a tattooed hand. “Here,” Eddie's nicotine soaked voice says over your shoulder, “This work?” “Well my station’s contaminated now but…sure,” you say with a sigh, letting out an airy chuckle at the ridiculousness of it. The company move had really been just as much of a mess as you expected it to be.

I've been thinking a lot about my plushie collection and rn I'm just soo overwhelmed by it. Because there's so many of them, and most of them I unfortunately have no attachment to. A majority of the collection was bought on impulse (mostly from goodwill and other second hand shops, where plush are sold very cheaply so its easy to purchase more at one time). I want to sort thru them and get rid of the mass majority that I no longer want, to make room for ones I actually care about, but it feels like such a hassle.
My datemate keeps trying to convince me to wait until we move to do anything. But then I'll have my first collection combined with the one at my current residence and it'll be even more overwhelming. And then there's the thought of where I'm even going to send all these plush. I live in a apartment with cats, and although most of the plush are in boxes, it might still make it hard to sell them because of that. And I live with smokers with no respect, who like to open my bedroom door and let all their nasty smells and nicotine get into my shit, so that's going to make selling even harder.
I could just (re)donate my plush, but then I'll be basically throwing money away, and the same thing would be true if I literally threw them out. Maybe I'll try to sell the ones ik haven't been contaminated by anything because of being boxed up, and the rest I'll just donate. I could see if there's any children's or women's shelters I could send some to. I want to drop a few off for toys for tots as well, mainly the squishmallows because they still have tags and ik they'll be well loved

scent hcs.... scent hcs... my friend and I discuss this like every other week I'm glad you mentioned it DHJS
but uhm uhm tecchou uses 5-in-1 gamer shower products /j but seriously I think he would just use cheap shampoo/conditioner/soap like sauve or axe products or something. he doesn't care what he smells like and he gets clean to be clean. he has some fancy cologne that he was gifted... somewhere in his house but he probably put it somewhere and then forgot about it. he finds it for special occasions always without fail. I feel like he prefers fruity scents more than anything and he has 1 specific perfume/cologne brand he actually likes.
fukuchi has a generic men's cologne I think. I think he also gets like luxury cologne as a treat JDBS. but he likes stronger smells: leather, firewood idk stuff like that (I don't know men's cologne smells 😭) he smells like aftershave sometimes. I think he gets pretty generic shampoo as well BUT he gets specific hair products to keep it like that. it is the only thing he cares about everything else he just goes though the motions JFD. ALSO he smells like nicotine after a smoke break (obviously)
I think both tecchou and fukuchi SWEAT like CRAZY and it ruins both of their smells. at the end of the day they both collectively smell like wet dog and jouno avoids them like the plague.
teruko smells fruity! specifically red smells (strawberry, cherry blossom etc). she has REALLY good shampoo/conditioner she does NOT play with her hair. she uses perfume every now and then but I don't think they would be that crazy expensive. maybe like a couple in a secret stash JJEN. her perfumes are STRONG she walks in a room and the smell immediately fills the room. a menace to everyone's nostrils but at least it smells good.
tachihara smells like cinnamon. no explanation gingers smell like orange. again, he has a generic shampoo/conditioner BUT I think he collects expensive cologne. again idk I just think he would JBJ. I think after being in the port mafia for so long the nicotine/cigarette smell has seeped into his clothes and he just can't get it out just mask it. the only clothes that haven't been contaminated is his hunting dog uniform.
i actually really agree with these!!
tecchou i imagine smells like whatever the generic men’s body wash smells like. idk how to describe the smell akskfjskd but it’s strong and somewhat refreshing smelling. he would only wear cologne to something special and probably after he was Told to. i feel he’s just super lucky with his hair like he puts no effort in and it looks good.
fukuchi definitely wears a cologne probably to mask the faint scent of alcohol or something. i also like the firewood and leather idea a lot since he does rock the leather jacket. hair product headcanon makes sense too he’s old he’s gotta do anything he can to keep that hair he has /silly fr though idk if i’ve ever seen a Balding anime character
teruko Definitely doesn’t play about hair care. her hair is so cute she definitely uses the best stuff for it and it’s Working. she always smells pretty too yeah. like expensive as well.
absolutely agree with tachihara. he definitely smells like cinnamon he doesn’t know why but he just does. and small hc if he leaves the mafia whenever he smells cigarettes he will think back to hirotsu and be a little sad.

Vampire AU | Calming a raging river

Keeping track of someone’s transformation was something Mansk was unfortunately all too familiar with but… he had been the first one on Pandora and screwed up enough to know he had to be here for Augustine for the…easiest transition and adaptation to this new form of existence. That and he had the others to help him because his gut told him this was not going to be easy.
As a human, she was a pain in the ass and some (or most) would call her a bitch. He had been stuck hearing everything about everyone for the last ten years so he knew her well enough to be concerned how she was going to be once she woke up as a brand new species and with a truckload of trauma. He could already imagine she was going to hold a grudge against Shen for at least a solid decade or two…which he wasn’t going to get in between because…fuck, what happened to Augustine was rough and Shen was in the wrong for not taking herself into the privacy of bunks.
But, he has his duty here to care and make sure no one blew the secret. Including Augustine.
Her pallor had only gotten whiter as the first hour had passed. Her auburn hair was starting to look a little more like ginger against her skin now which he hadn’t quite expected as he waited. Her scent shifted too from her human one that smelt distinct with nicotine and alcohol that had still appealed despite the contaminants to something…clean and more natural and no tempting undertones.
The cracks of her bones from impact injuries had healed up which hadn’t been a quiet affair though he could hear the soft pausing in her breath to know she was now awake. The downside of the transformation, it knocked out certain aspects of the nervous system as it changed after the first hour. She was conscious, but mostly semi-paralysed for now until the heart stopped. It didn’t stop the soft sounds of her pain from escaping her every so often.
Mansk sighed heavily, debating on what to say. He had to say something, right? It had helped the others. But…also her senses would soon be in overdrive as well as the thirst she’d be feeling as well. Daniel had tried talking with Molly during her turning but she found it annoying in the first hour and bit him to get him to shut up and to put on some music instead. He had no idea if Augustine was aware of them or lost in her own mind.
“That’s the third sigh in the last five minutes,” Walker didn’t look up from her book, sitting onto of his locker. “You’re worried.”
“You’re not?” Mansk questioned, giving her a look.
“I am, that’s why I’m here but it’s coming up at twelve am and she’s almost fully converted now and we all know she’s going to freak out,” Walker spoke calmly, shutting her book
“She can probably hear us now.” Mansk pointed out. “Should we like…talk to her? Tell her what the fuck is happening? She’s probably really confused as to why she was attacked and… well like this now.”
Walker’s ruby gaze dropped down to the woman on the bed. “Someone, get the blood packs. She’ll believe what she is when the thirst drives her to feed. The first few hours after awakening are shit anyway.”
Distantly, they could already hear the others moving in towards his bunk, aside from Shen who opted to remain in her bunk until morning given how much trouble she had put them in. Augustine would certainly go for her if she came and no one needed that risk.
Daniel and Molly waited outside the bunk with Jocelyn though all three had data pads of information from their personal research. Kamath didn’t give much of a shit to wait and just came straight in and lent against the door though moved once Solis arrived with the blood packs but he didn’t stay longer than that now they had what they needed from him though Mansk nodded this thanks in passing. The doc had to help get another set of false tox-report for the labs prepped in advance which was a bimonthly test but her next one was apparently soon. Mansk was just glad he didn’t have to deal with the tech side of all of this; just followed along with what his science crew suggested to avoid getting found out.
Augustine twitched a rasped hiss built in her throat before it turned into a pitiful whine of pain, her hands grasping his sheets.
Walker dropped down from the locker to sit at the edge of the bed, her hands coming to grasp Augustine’s and pulling her hands free from tearing the fabric. “Grace, try to start taking heavy breaths. The next few minutes are going to hurt.”
By which as they listened closer, they could hear the thumping rhythm of Augustine’s heart change from the fast, consistent beat to something more sluggish and inconsistent, missing a beat here and there and by no mistake, it wasn’t less painful as Augustine let out another groan as her body stiffened up, her body arching a fraction into the bed. Walker tightened her grip on the woman’s arm.
“Breath. The pain won’t last.” Walker whispered, trying to sound assuring.
One beat. Another. Missed beat, one-second pause. One beat. For an entire minute, the pace continued before the papulations got longer, Augustin’s facial expression remained morphed into a mask of pain before… the heart beat stopped entirely.
-
Grace hurt, the pain felt like it had seized through her entire body and it was centred into her heart like someone had shoved their hand in her chest without mercy and squeezed. Yet… the pain and the heat that filled her chest seemed to filter out into relief and bliss as her heart lost its fight…
Becoming silent.
Her entire body loosened up in relief, but there was little to rejoice as a new dry ach in her throat seemed to surface next.
“Grace?”
The voice made her flinch as if someone had pressed an air horn next to her ear and let loose with it. Her hands went to go to her ears but there was immediate resistance to the motion—then she realised someone was holding her wrists. Her eyes flickered open but for that split second, it was like she was looking into a freaking lamp bulb turned on. She shut her eyes again.
“Take your time, your senses have tiled from a two to an eleven.” The voice was again like thunder against her ear drums.
Her nose wrinkled in displeasure. “Let…go.” She whispered but even that was loud. Fuck. She sucked in a heavy breath, though she became aware that… there were at least four other people in here with her… she could make out the distinct male scent around her…or at least the closest thing which she assumed was from her pillow. Why was everything so strong?
“I thought she’d be more violent.”
Grace tried again, opening her eyes through small slits but the lights were still sharp as she flickered her gaze down to see… a SecOps woman with light brown skin with dark, straightened hair pulled back into a bun at the base of her neck was holding tightly onto her wrists with a surprising grip but what stood out was the ruby gaze.
Although Grace was taken aback by the colour of her eyes, it was the clarity of…her vision was more off-putting and disorientating. She hadn’t seen this clear before and in all honestly, she had been needing reading glasses more often when staring at her monitors for so long…
Her eyes caught more movement, turning her head sharply to see Mansk, one of Quaritch’s lackeys sitting on a chair, oddly close by and looking concerned which was not an expression she thought any of his grunts would have.
Grace though recognised Dr Kamath at the door; worked in SecOps but had a hand in SciOps as well given her multi-degrees in Terran & Xeno-entomology, carcinology and Biochemical Engineering. Grace had been impressed by her when she heard of her record and had been very disappointed she hadn’t been able to secure the woman strictly into SciOps. She had tried to see if they get an avatar for her but the woman didn’t pass the genetic tests for a stable avatar.
Like the two SecOps, her eyes were just as red as the other two and… they looked very intense at her which was very confusing. What the fuck was their problem here?
“Let. Go.” Grace winced at her own voice but she glowered at the woman. Walker, by the name on her shirt.
“Dr Augustine,” Kamath raised her eyebrow, “Do you know or remember what happened to you?”
Grace blinked, though she stared at the doctor for a long moment. Her mind had been so much more focused on her body and the pain… she hadn’t let her mind wander.
She hurried back down the corridor in a huff. Distant sounds. A dull ache from catching her arm on the wall pipes. Annoyed still about that and the damn vending machine not giving her her cigarettes. She had walked into something she wasn’t supposed to.
Grace couldn’t help but stiffen up, her eyes widening a fraction.
Shen look up with a hiss that went straight up her spine before she realised the woman’s lips were tainted red— she didn’t get more than five running steps before she felt an icy-cold grip on her shoulder then the sense of gravity changed as she was yanked—
“That bitch!” Grace's surprise was quickly overwhelmed with seething rage. The grip on her arms tightened but Grace put her strength into it this time, digging her heel into the bed for leverage and pushing herself up off the bed.
Walker met her but Grace twisted her wrists free and shoved her hard into her chest. To her surprise, Walker flew straight into the locker and dented it a little.
“Grace, Grace!” Mansk jumped to his feet, stepping in her way.“You’re fine! She’s not here!”
“Aaaand here’s the violence.” A voice muttered, muffled if a little behind a wall but Grace barely paid it much heed despite the familiarity of it.
“I’m not fine!” She hissed, though she recoiled as she felt her teeth shift, her tongue catching on something sharp in her mouth. Her rage simmered, and side-tracked immediately as her fingers came straight to the oddness. Her fingers touched along her teeth though at her canines and the smaller tooth beside it, was sharp and elongated. Wrong. “Mirror. Now!”
Walker whistled to Mansk though he sighed heavily and to her surprise, he moved too quickly for human standards to the bedside and pulled out a small compact mirror out of the top draw. That speed… her mind mulled on it for a moment. Not… normal.  What was he? What there they?
“A compact mirror, Devin?” Kamath questioned.
“For when I put my contact lenses in so I don’t mess up and expose us, you prick.” Mansk gave the doctor a look as he held it out.
Grace eyes him for a moment but took the mirror and opened it up although she recoiled at the flash of red of her reflection but didn’t drop it as she met the red gaze reflecting back at her. The face….looked like her but it didn’t. Her face was too pale which was a heavy contrast to her auburn hair that hung down from its natural end-wave but the red of her eyes was…real. She knew contact lenses in films never looked real; they lacked depth and broke some of the fourth wall so she couldn’t watch a lot of films with them in without getting frustrated at it.
With her clarity of vision, she could see the red and how it had settled into her irises’ familiar patterns to know this was not some fucking contact lenses they had stuck in and were messing with her. Her eyes should be brown. A nice deep brown but this red, while dark not suddenly obvious, it was clear to see the new colour in the reflections of light.
Her teeth. That was next. Instead of the slight and natural elongation of her canines that she typically had, her mouth now housed four long fuckers instead along her top jaw. Her main canines were longer and sharper and the ones behind it were also sharper but not nearly so long. Dual fangs.
What the actual fuck!
“So, you’re a vampire now…but I guess you’ve figured that out now.” Kamath pointed out.
“No.” Grace shook her head. “No… no.”
“Look, Augustine.” Walker held her hands up, prodding the mirror down out of her line of sight before Mansk just took it off her and tossed it back into his bedside without care. “We’re vampires as well. Red eyes, sharp teeth. Surely you’ve noticed the sensation in the back of your throat like you’ve gargled hot sauce for ten minutes.”
Grace let out a notice of frustration as the sensation rose at the reminder, her hand coming to her throat. How was the sensation worse? Her other hand clenched tightly.
“Look, that’s the mild version. We can feed you but… if you don’t, then tabasco sauce turns into a fucking ghost pepper sensation and then you’re slaughtering the entire base of humans.” Walker said bluntly as she reached down towards a zip cooler bag.
“She’s right, it’ll only get worse and you’ll do to others what Shen did to you,” Kamath spoke.
Grace glowered at the reminder. No. She couldn’t—Vampires weren’t real. This…didn’t feel real. This…had to be a bad dream or she was in hell. Probably hell. This felt like hell.
“Walker, Mansk. Leave us.” Kamath spoke, not looking away from her with a more thoughtful expression.
“This is my bunk.” Mansk gave her a look.
“Do you really want her to leave? Are you fucking kidding me right now?”
Mansk stared at her for a moment before he raised his hands in mock surrender and the other two left but not before Walker kicked the bag to Kamath’s feet. They didn’t go far. In fact, Grace was surprised to follow their steps outside and lingered with the other three waiting.
“Focus on me, not them,” Kamath spoke, pulling Grace’s attention from the door and beyond. “Vampires are real. This is happening and no, you’re not in hell. You’ve just had a really…..fucking shit day.”
Grace’s eyes widened.
Kamath lent down slowly, opening up the bag to reveal eight…blood bags inside. Each was marked with different blood types.
“No.”
“Yes.” She picked one up and held it out expectantly. “Deny all you want. You need this.”
“I’m not—“
“You are.” Kamath spoke, “Just over two hours ago, you left your room, almost swore at a vending machine then made your way back only to stop hallway when Shen got ahead of herself when she was trying to get a snack and you came across that scene with a very different context.”
Grace’s eyes narrowed. “Two hours?” She looked at the clock: 11:59. “I thought it was later than that.” She knew the pain… but surely it was day… there was no mistaking the pain and…she knew her heart was quiet but… it just…didn’t feel real.
“You had a shit day and had an early night. The day crew are in bed by ten. People linger which is often a prime time for one of us to get a snack.” Kamath spoke, carrying on with a wave of her hand. “Now… interrupting a feeding vampire is…bad. We’re naturally instinctive to protect our food but… when you ran, you triggered Shen. You were food and you ran, inciting the hunting instinct that’s…most prominent when actively feeding.”
Grace flinched at the reminder, her hand coming to feel her back; the memory of the woman’s heel was unmistakable…she doubted she could forget the sensation.
“My spine…”
“Hunting instinct leads to less rational thought and a more frenzy, impulsive side. The…hunter brain didn’t want you to escape but didn’t want to kill your outright. Debilitation.”
Grace closed her eyes, swallowing thickly through the ache in her throat, her eyes returning to the bags. Kamath reached forwards and…somewhat hesitantly handed it over. The cool bag remained settled in her palm and yet, there was an appeal with the lingering scent coming off of it.
“I…I don’t want to be like this.” She just…wanted to go to her bunk and sleep. Pretend it didn’t happen but… fuck it was all so damn confusing.
The door shifted, and Grace stepped away with a flicker of aggression though she stamped that emotion down quickly as she also realised she had pulled the bag away. Why did she think someone was going to take it?
Her eyes narrowed before her eyebrows shot up to see…Curfman, Choi and…Maze. All matching eyes though. She immediately frowned in confusion because… surely that wasn’t right. If they were just as fucked-up as she was…why didn’t she know? Surely something must have…
“They’ve been…studying our species. If you want to check facts, they’ll give you some.” Kamath assured, patting her arm. “We’ll leave you four to talk.” Before leading out with a high head.
“Let’s go to my bunk,” Walker spoke, despite Mansk's complaint. “Hey, you volunteered your bunk for this so stop being a bitch about it.”
They didn’t go far, Grace could hear the three walk about five doors down before the door opened and then shut. In fact, there weren’t many people in this section of the bunks. She counted at least thirty-seven heartbeats in the immediate area.
“Why is it so quiet?” Grace wondered out loud.
“Twelve people left for Earth this morning, SecOps don’t get more staff for another two months when the next ship arrives. It was the best place to go than risk more people.” Choi spoke, taking Mansk’s vacant seat. “You should really drink that.” He nodded to the bag in her hand.
Grace eyed the bag again uncertainly.
“If you’re embarrassed, don’t be.” Maze spoke, “We know it’s…all very new and… you barely feel like you’ve wrapped your head around it.”
Again, Grace didn’t feel certain, but she did slowly sink back down onto the edge of the bed again. the liquid in the bag shifting with the movement though she hesitantly shifted it trying to determine the best way to…eat it. Bite through the plastic or use the provided straws?
“Bite the top and push it up into your mouth, you don’t want to pop it and Mansk will get more whiny if you stain his sheets with blood.”
Grace considered actually doing this but the burning in her throat was starting to get worse the longer she looked at the bag.
Fuck it.
She wrinkled her nose at the taste of the bag but the plastic pierced with the slight touch of the sharpened teeth though the moment she tasted the content, it clicked and before she knew it, the bag was empty.
Then the second. Then the fourth…
By the eighth, Grace was feeling sloshy and mildly disappointed as the bag finished but… her throat felt so much better. In fact, the hustle and…disorientation also seemed to settle back as well. She actually felt good.
Which was weird.
“So, now you’re fed, this meal will…last about today and tomorrow but after that, we’ll need to teach you how to find yourself some food more naturally. Solis finds bags that are about to expire or finds a reason to get them out but… we need to be careful. So we hunt more naturally.”
Grace looked up from her sad, empty blood bad but with more weariness. “People.”
“Yep. But, Grace, we have rules.”
Grace’s shoulders relaxed. “What are they?” At least there was some… order in this nightmare.
“We don’t kill our food.” Choi spoke, “This…isn’t earth so people going missing or dead will be noted and investigated. With…well the rest of us, we can help each other out. People talk, you get to know routines and we don’t go for someone who’s already been fed from for at least a month unless you’re desperate or they’ve recovered enough.”
That…actually sounded reasonable. Logical and…smart. But that still left a bitter taste in her mouth. She was…fucked into this mess because they didn’t want her corpse or absence being questioned? Grace tossed the baggy with the rest into the cooler bag.
“Anything else?”
“Yes. Teeth are coated in a type of venom that…triggers the victim to find the sensation pleasing when you bite,” Choi held out his tablet, which showed the digital diagrams of a chemical structure. “This…stops the human from feeling any pain if the vampire chooses to release that but…it also makes them a little more aroused so we’ve collectively agreed that…you avoid sexual intimacy if your feeding.”
Grace’s eyes widened. “That’ll be a fucking mess!” She hadn’t considered that but it make her recoil at how those lines looked so easy to cross if you didn’t think. Fuck no!
“Yes, so…to avoid that, you’re either feeding or your fucking. Never both at the same time and certainly not when you’re getting them high off you. No one here wants to deal with the morality of vampires and rape and where the line is because it’s…not something we want to get into. The third rule is related; we use personal charm to seduce to fuck, not the vampire charm. Same reason.”
“Oh, I agree.” Though she hardly had enough people to be friendly with so suddenly trying to seduce someone for the fun would be difficult. Not that it mattered really; she had other priorities now. “But… one of you turned me and I didn’t want to be turned?”
Choi winced, looking down at the tablet than meeting her eye. “It’s… I’m sorry that happened, Dr Augustine but…the need to keep the secret does and will…prioritise over your personal desire. You are the head of the avatar program now. Head of SciOps. If you go missing or were found dead… then what would you think would happen?” Choi’s voice was empathetic as he spoke but she hated it nonetheless. That she now had to play along with this…show. Pretend she was…back to her normal self.
“Now, we have about…six hours before the morning people start to wake up. I…may have booked you three days off of active work to get you settled and adjusted to this new way of life. There’s a lot to cover and your avatar will be looked after in the medical bay.”
“You booked me—wait, who authorised that?”
Curfman spared a glance to Choi, “We…sort of know your authorisation codes.”
Grace narrowed her eyes. “What, why?!”
“To get what we need without people asking questions. We needed access to codes to input our programs that’ll cover the monitors with pre-loaded data and false readings. We knew Harpers and…well he didn’t notice. You haven’t either. ” Curfman spoke, “The links monitor our vitals, heart and brain. But…we’re dead. Technically. Nothing to monitor and…everyone would notice that so…Shen created a program that could…use old data from our previous links and recycle it through a program that would show up on the monitors so that…no one would think anything was wrong.”
Grace blinked but…she couldn’t deny the genius of that and she knew Maze was an avatar technician; someone easy to install or to activate the program whenever they needed. “At…at least we can still use our avatars.”
“Indeed but that…should bring us to our next area of…interest. Vampire abilities and weaknesses.”
Max perked up at that. “Oh, this is a good topic. Kinda awesome.”
“Abilities? Oh god, is there some…magical bullshit thrown into this as well?” she gestured down at her body with a wrinkled nose. “I am a scientist. I’m…barely even accepting the whole dead thing.”
“We’re still looking into it, Dr Augustine.” Choi smiled, “Come, let’s go to one of the labs. Mansk wants his bunk back.”
-
Grace stared down at the complied data they had, though the smell of the lab was…familiar and the camera feeds were looped. Another program that…she had no idea about. It made her realise that… Shen had a good amount of control of the RDA’s computer systems at a click of a button. Not enough to…be noticeable. Grace had been told it was mostly cameras and health monitors or computer systems that compiled personal data.
She knew Shen had come to the RDA for hijacking supplies and was paying of those debts but she hadn’t cared much thought. Still, getting her back broken in wasn’t enough to think of her in a good light.
Her mind still buzzed a little though her mood was barely lightened by the fact that… they couldn’t sleep. Laying down was the next best though Grace wasn’t sure if it was a good or a bad thing yet. She always did like to spend too many hours working.
“Now, we don’t know what you’ll get. It’ll take a day or so for what your main shtick is to kick in.” Maze spoke, “We’ve…categorised four different prime abilities. We all have all of them but…we favour naturally towards one to master.”
“We’ve got Misting; which Is primarily…” Choi paused, “like turning into a mist or vapour. Pretty much what it says on the tin.”
“Misting?” Grace’s tone dropped into scepticism.
“It’s primarily used to get into places you can’t ordinarily or out, if you’re in a sticky situation. Through a door or…a window.” As if to make her point, Maze ran straight to the window and even going as far as to dive, arms forward at the window.
Grace stiffened up, fully expecting the woman to thunk against the glass and ping off… but her form instead dissolved like a cloud of grey fog and seemed to slither with motion through the window and reformed outside.
“Fuck.”
Maze stood outside arms wide with a triumphant smirk on her maskless face before stepping back through into the lab. Grace stared for a moment. “How’d you get through the sealed window?”
“Well, we can alter our molecular density from our natural state to an overexcited state. It’s a simple science that…we move our modules through the material without breaking it. Of course, it’s harder to do with these windows given it’s…well very little of natural gaps given it’s meant to keep human air in and Pandora air out but not impossible.” Maze spoke, looking very cheerful about it. “You will need to learn how to escape these types of windows and airlock doors, even if it’s not your shtick.”
“Noted.”
Choi sighed and pulled the attention back to himself. “Next is Telepathy. We all use a variant of this to wipe the memory of our meals so they don’t remember that aspect of our meeting and…freak out. But it’s useful for us to garner an expectation of what’s happening or if we need to cover something or is there’s an exposure risk. Kamath’s area of expertise. She can go over that with you if that’s your thing.”
At least… Well, Grace knew mind shit was a vampire’s thing but…it felt odd to hear that. But…she supposed it made sense. It’d be interesting to learn for sure.
“Next is...morphing.”
“Really?” Grace gave him a look because this was a little too much. “I can understand the other shit but…that’s a bit farfetched.”
“Do you need proof for that as well, Grace?” Choi scoffed. “That’s Curfmans’s thing.”
Grace’s eyes slid to the woman but all she did was shrug. “Think of misting, but we reform as another thing. Right now, it’s only Earth animals since…I think animal impressions are passed down from each generation to the next via our blood. I’m still looking into it but I’m not turning into anything right now. I’m…not a show pony.”
“You’ll be taught to morph into at least one animal.” Maze spoke, “It’s kinda fun. Mistings find it easier but again, not my area. I prefer being a mist.”
Grace sighed but accepted this with a nod. Sure, why not? This was too freaking weird to be made up bull shit. “Fine. What’s the last one?”
“Oh, this.” Choi reached forwards, pulling a pen from a pot and holding it out in his hand. It rose up by an inch above his palm. “Telekinesis. Very useful for small things. Like opening up doors, getting items in and out of pockets but… well it’s my area and the hardest to master.”
“Harder than turning into a cloud?” Grace deadpanned.
Choi just chuckled, “So far, this is also Walker and Shen’s thing.”
Grace wrinkled her nose but nodded. “Is that it?”
“We have our regular abilities; speed and strength, enhanced senses; typical vampire bull shit in that regard. We can scale buildings but that’s just using our strength and Pandora’s lesser gravity.” Curfman spoke, “I once climbed up a wall and knocked on Selfridge’s window and scared the shit out of him when he was reading at Halloween.” She giggled softly, “He fainted.”
Grace couldn’t help the curl of her lips at that because…that sounded funny. She had heard rumour of something scaring Selfridge at night but… it had died down after Quaritch had called it a prank. She remembered him sniggering about it later after the investigation had been cleared.
“Please tell me the sun doesn’t kill us.” Grace hoped not, but at least then having her avatar was a good thing now. Her outside body, if that was the case.
“No, but it does…weaken us. We can’t use most of our abilities in direct sunlight. The light can overwhelm our enhanced vision so certain light receptors in our eyes turn off to prevent optical damage. Our hearing and sense of smell remained fine. Our speed is reduced but still faster than humans funning. Strength…it can vary depending on exposure.”
That was a relief… in a few ways. No sun damage, at least that wasn’t a worry because… it was in the warm season right now; they had clear skies and a lot of sun. The regular eclipse was good as well to douse the world in darkness for some time.
“Garlic is…acidic to us so avoid that if possible,” Choi carried on, “And anyone who eats Garlic. It lingers in their blood and…it fucking burns.” Clearly from experience. “No religious artefacts or water affect us so, yay. Silver… there’s a compound in that’s just… I’d avoid that as well and…” Choi paused.
“What?”
“Unobtainium is also…Ouchy for us as well.”
Grace’s face dropped immediately. “You’re shitting me.” This whole base was a mine; meant to dig up the stuff…if that hurt them then…damn the humans here had ways to drive them out.
“Now you see why we have to keep our people quiet.” Maze put in sympathetically. “Fortunately, we don’t have to handle it raw and it’s all in the other departments but…if someone slips up and touches a piece and people realise, they can do the math.”
“Oh, I understand perfectly.” Mining was defiantly bad since humans would weaponise it very quickly given they purified it and could work the metal into anything they want. “Damn, this is…shit.”
“Yep, so we have to have each other’s backs. No matter what because… the chances are that the humans will not take well to finding us out and… there are almost nineteen hundred humans here. Too many to memory wipe. We have contingency plans but if one of is us ratted out, all of us are.”
Grace nodded, her mind feeling a little overwhelmed with all this information and… she couldn’t even talk to Mo’at about it. Not anymore. She hadn’t gotten around to telling them of human myths for them to even get an…understanding of this. She took a calming breath, pushing that area of grief away for now.
“Well, I suppose I have a lot to learn.”
That was already feeling like a freaking understatement.

How to Use Nicotine Snus Safely and Effectively
Nicotine snus, a smokeless tobacco product, has become increasingly popular among individuals seeking alternatives to smoking. Originating in Sweden, snus offers a discreet way to consume nicotine without the need for combustion, making it a less harmful option compared to cigarettes. However, to use nicotine snus safely and effectively, it’s important to understand the product and its proper usage.
In this guide, we’ll discuss the best practices for using nicotine snus, highlight its potential benefits, and provide insights into finding reliable nicotine snus suppliers in the USA.
What Is Nicotine Snus?
Nicotine snus is a moist, pasteurized tobacco product that is placed under the upper lip, allowing nicotine to be absorbed through the gums. Unlike traditional chewing tobacco, snus does not require spitting, making it a more convenient and socially acceptable option for many users.
Why Choose Nicotine Snus?
Nicotine snus is often preferred for the following reasons:
Smokeless Option: It eliminates the need for inhalation, reducing exposure to harmful byproducts like tar and carbon monoxide.
Discreet Use: It can be used in public places without drawing attention.
Long-Lasting Effect: A single pouch can deliver a steady nicotine dose for up to an hour.
Transition Tool: It’s often used as a harm-reduction tool or to quit smoking.
Tips for Safe and Effective Use
To maximize the benefits and minimize potential risks, consider the following guidelines:
1. Choose the Right Strength
Nicotine snus comes in various strengths, typically measured in milligrams of nicotine per pouch. Beginners should start with lower doses to avoid nicotine overconsumption. Gradually adjust to higher strengths if necessary, based on your tolerance and needs.
2. Follow Recommended Usage
Avoid overusing snus, as excessive nicotine intake can lead to adverse effects like dizziness, nausea, or increased heart rate. Stick to the recommended number of pouches per day, which varies based on the product.
3. Avoid Swallowing the Pouch
The pouch is designed to release nicotine into the bloodstream through the gums. Swallowing it is not only uncomfortable but can also lead to stomach upset.
4. Hygiene Matters
Always wash your hands before and after handling snus to maintain good hygiene and prevent contamination.
5. Consult a Professional
If you're using snus as part of a plan to quit smoking, consult a healthcare provider. They can guide you on combining snus with other tools like nicotine gum, lozenges, or patches. Reputable nicotine gum suppliers in the USA can provide products to complement your efforts.
Potential Risks of Nicotine Snus
While nicotine snus is considered less harmful than smoking, it’s not entirely risk-free. Long-term use can lead to gum irritation, dependency, and other health concerns. To mitigate these risks:
Limit Duration: Avoid prolonged contact of the snus pouch with the gum to reduce irritation.
Use Moderately: Treat snus as a harm-reduction tool rather than a permanent solution.
Where to Buy Nicotine Snus in the USA
Finding a reliable supplier is crucial for ensuring product quality and safety. Reputable nicotine snus suppliers in the USA provide products that meet regulatory standards, ensuring consistency and efficacy. Additionally, some suppliers also offer nicotine gum, allowing users to combine these options for a tailored approach to nicotine management.
Conclusion
Nicotine snus offers a practical and less harmful alternative to smoking, but its effectiveness depends on proper usage. By following the guidelines outlined above and sourcing products from trusted nicotine snus suppliers in the USA, you can enjoy the benefits of snus while minimizing potential risks. For those seeking additional options, explore reliable nicotine gum suppliers in the USA to complement your harm-reduction journey.
Always remember that moderation and informed choices are key to safe and effective use. If in doubt, consult a healthcare professional to ensure that nicotine snus fits within your lifestyle and goals.

Why Do Disposable Vapes Taste Better?
Disposable vapes have gathered a lot of momentum in the last couple of years, not only because of their ease of use but also due to their amazing flavors. Most of the vapers note that disposable devices always present a stronger and nicer taste than refillable devices. Well, why do disposable vapes taste better? Let's check out some of the major reasons behind this flavor advantage.
Optimized Coil and E-Liquid Compatibility
Disposable vapes come pre-filled with e-liquids, designed to work inside the device for optimal flavor. Manufacturers carefully marry the e-liquid formulation, such as the balance of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), along with flavor ingredients to the coil and wick material and wattage of the device. This makes them compatible to maximize flavor without needing adjustments for a consistent flavorful experience right out of the box.
Fresh Coils for Every Device
In the case of disposable vapes, a fresh coil is used each time. Coils become resinated over time in reusable vapes and can produce a "burnt" or weakened taste. Because each disposable vape has a brand-new coil, you consistently get the full flavor intensity without a dumbed-down taste from an overused coil.
Nicotine Salt Formulation
Most disposables use nicotine salts, which are substantially smoother and better for flavor clarity than traditional freebase nicotine at high levels of nicotine. Nicotine salt also allows disposable vapes to give bold flavors and a satisfying nicotine hit without the harshness many users experience with high-nicotine e-liquids, making it a more enjoyable experience in general.
Low-Maintenance Design
Because disposable vapes do not require refilling or cleaning, the e-liquid in a disposable vape remains fresh and untainted by residue from previous flavors. This further helps maintain the taste of each puff with low maintenance in design; this is where refillable devices may suffer from flavor "cross-contamination" or a stale taste if not regularly cleaned.
Conclusion
The flavor experience is so much better in disposable vapes because optimized e-liquid compatibility, fresh coils with every device, nicotine salt formulation, and low-maintenance design all come together to create a bold, consistent flavor without fuss. Therefore, this makes disposable vapes the best option for flavor-oriented vapers who seek satisfaction on every puff.
