I honestly LOVE that prompt I got about Harry finding out about Grindeldore while Albus was still alive - but I have to say, that’s not going to be a short story lol

Fictober #5
So finally I got to write something for fictober as well, seems like I’m starting with Prompt no. 5: “I might just kiss you.” Hopefully I’ll be able to write something everyday now. I also still need to create a decent writing blog, but until then, I’ll post all my writing on here, even if it’s not HP related.
Fandom: The Mentalist (Set after 6x3, so spoiler free for everyone, who doesn’t know RJs identity yet.)
Rating: G (Friendship/Romance)
Jane had to say, staying in Napa a little longer wasn’t that bad. It was warm and green and quite idyllic. It was a nice place for a wedding, although Grace had probably imagined a big pompous white wedding with hundreds of people and a church and a venue. But he could see all that didn’t matter now that Rigsby had finally asked her.
Her vow had been everything she’d felt and wanted to say for a very long time now - just like Rigsby’s. He had to admit seeing his friends finally getting married, finally getting their happy ending had moved him like little else lately. They were happy, just knowing they had each other, no matter what else happened.
Jane knew that feeling and somehow he was glad to note that the memory of it was a happy one, instead of being overcome with grief and guilt. Maybe, if they caught Red John and if he survived it and didn’t go to prison for the rest of his life, then maybe he could have a shot at something new again. Maybe he wasn’t completely broken, yet.
When Lisbon sat down on the bench next to him, he thought he’d been wrong: Maybe he was not completely broken anymore.
“Are you okay?” she asked and he nodded with a small smile.
“Yes. Did Grace like the carriage?”
Lisbon grinned. “She did. She was so happy. I think nothing could’ve spoiled this day for her, even though it probably didn’t go as she’d always imagined.”
“Ah, life rarely goes as we imagine it. If it did, we wouldn’t be sitting here together.”
She laughed and turned her head to look at him.
“That’s true, for sure.” She met his eyes and he was sure it was the sentiment over the wedding and maybe the setting sun behind the hills of Napa that made her say the following: “You know, I always wanted to be an officer of the law, I was very sure I knew what I was getting into, when I started training and working. I’d never imagined, well... you.”
Jane smirked. “And is that good or bad?” He knew the answer and she knew that he knew. She rolled her eyes at him but couldn’t help her eyes twinkling softly. “It’s definitely a lot of extra work”, she said.
“If it’s any consolation. I’d never imagined meeting someone like you either.”
“Someone like me?”
“Yeah, someone -“ who makes life worth living again. “As good and honest as you, who still puts up with me everyday.”
She tilted her head. “Oh come on, you’re not that bad. You know I don’t mean that.”
He grinned and looked down at his hands for a second. “I know. And I want you to know I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For, well, mostly that I can’t be free until Red John is dead.”
“Jane...”
“No, I mean it. I know you’re right, everyone’s right about my obsession and all that, but I can’t - I can’t give up. I have to finish this and I am so close, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know it’s not...”
“Healthy?” She suggested.
“Yes, maybe.”
“It’s okay. I’ve known that from the beginning.”
He nodded, took a deep breath and took her hand then. Surprise flashed over her face, nonetheless she intertwined her fingers with his. “Still, these days I sometimes think -“
“Jane, we don’t have to -“
He looked her in the eyes and saw that she was afraid to hear something she’d rather ignore right now. Because there was no point. No point in addressing their feelings might have changed. Addressing what Lorelei and Barlow had voiced so carelessly. He was still unavailable and there was still Red John and the possibility of them dying or going to prison for life to bring him down. And they still had their friendship to lose if they didn’t tread carefully here.
“Okay.” He agreed and her shoulders sank in a mixture of relief and disappointment. “But let me say this: If we get Red John and we both survive it and if I don’t spend the rest of my life in prison, then I will ask you to watch a sunset just like this with me.”
A small smile tucked at the corners of her mouth. “And what would be so different about it then?” She asked quietly.
“Then”, he said. “I might just kiss you.”
She took a deep breath, her eyes flickered to his lips - just for a second - then she met his gaze again. “In that case, I might just say yes.”
“That’s lucky”, he said and they both just had to chuckle at that.
“We should go help Cho with the restaurant. Rigsby and Grace won’t drive round Napa in a carriage all evening.” She let go of his hand and stood up.
“Ah, I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
She grinned and shook her head and he followed her to the car anyways and it was good, for now. It was better than he’d ever imagined.

Caraval book review
Caraval by Stephanie Garber is the first book in the Caraval trilogy. The story is about Scarlett and Donatella Dragna, sisters from the mythical Isle of Trisda. As children they had been told stories by their grandmother of the fantastical Caraval, a magical game led by the infamous Caraval Master Legend. The game used to travel around the world, allowing players and observers to experience the magic, but after the death of a woman who allegedly got swept away in the illusion, Legend stopped traveling. Scarlett had just about given up on the idea of getting to see the Caraval, but she receives a letter from Master Legend himself personally inviting her, her sister, and her fiance - a man whose identity has been kept a secret from her by her father, but who she is to marry within the week - to attend the next exclusive game of Caraval. Donatella drags them away to the private island the game is being held on, despite the danger that comes with the possibility of their father finding out and punishing them. During the game, Donatella is kidnapped by Legend and hidden away. The objective of the game for every player is to follow clues that lead to her location, finding her and thus Legend as well. Scarlett must navigate the trickery of Caraval to find her sister and get them away to safety; she is running from her father’s wrath, as well as trying to make sense of the love triangle she has found herself in. Will she dedicate herself to Count Nicolas d’Arcy - the man she has been arranged to marry - and the safety he assures? Or will she give in to passion and run away with Julian - the sailor boy who worked with Donatella to bring them to Caraval, and stayed to play the game - who has secrets galore, and is steadily burrowing his way into Scarlett’s heart, making her question what she wants from life.
Caraval is Stephanie Garber’s debut novel, and it is obvious. In concept Caraval is fantastic; it is a magical game chock full of suspense, mystery, and forbidden romance, but the writing comes across as juvenile. Garber exhibits the mind of a storyteller, but lacks the experience to properly bring her ideas to fruition. The book is full of fantastical descriptions and flowery language that do not flow into the rest of the story, heavy use of simile and almost fanfiction-esque descriptions of glamorous ball gowns jumping out in stark contrast to the fast pace plot surrounding it. Some examples of these descriptions, such as on page 221, the first line of Chapter 22: “The world tasted like lies and ashes when Scarlett woke.” And on page 230, she describes the scent of her sister as “Sharp molasses and wild dreams.” On top of these ornate descriptions, she writes Scarlett to have an odd sort of synesthesia, where she associates colors with feelings, people, and objects. This only adds to the overuse of similes, and it is not mentioned or used in the plot at all beyond appearing when Garber wants to describe something fancifully. You can almost forget this part of the story exists, until it appears again out of nowhere and clogs the flow of the plot.
The plot itself is action packed, it moves quickly and rarely provides a moment to rest or process the information you were previously given. Garber abandons concepts almost as quickly as she introduces them, bombarding you with movement. One moment our main character is waking up, and then she is running out the door, and then she is defying death, always being swept along to the next big shiny magical thing. Garber has so many interesting individual ideas, such as the scene where Scarlett walks into a fortune teller’s tent; the fortune teller has tattoos covering his body and tells her fortune by tracking which tattoos her eyes are drawn to, reading her subconscious thoughts and feelings. Garber also experiments with the concept of paying for things with time, trading days of your life, or secrets, as currency. But these concepts are introduced and then tossed away so quickly that it is hard to appreciate them for what they are. Even at the end of the book when the plot is meant to be resolved, it feels as though it comes too quickly. The build up to the end involves Donatella literally dying, but it is resolved a few pages later when she is revived by her sister’s love and a wish, Donatella then proceeds to explain the mystery of the book all at once. Garber rushes through the plot to get to resolutions, and then rushes through temporary resolutions that hardly feel satisfying in order to set up the brand new suspense for the next book. If Garber had let the suspense of Donatella’s death fester and not rushed to explain away the mystery that had made the book interesting in the first place, then I might have been compelled to read the next book to find out what happens. While looking into Caraval I learned that Garber had not intended for it to become a series, and I see the evidence of that in how she finished it; she left no investment to keep reading.
Caraval is also lacking in the world and character building department. It is written to be a fantasy setting, and Garber offhandedly references places like the Conquered Isles where Scarlett and Donatella are from, which implies greater history and world building but is never actually elaborated on. Magic also seems to exist, but the rules of it and how it works are not clearly defined. It is said repeatedly that nothing is real within the game and the ‘magic’ is nothing but sleight of hand trickery. But this magic must exist beyond sleight of hand, as it does things such as physically prevent the Caraval actors from talking about their roles as actors, and allow people to come back to life after they die, in Donatella’s case, because of her sister making a wish. It also makes time pass quicker, and allows days of player’s lives to be taken, repeatedly altering their surroundings and reality. None of this is possible with sleight of hand, but the genuine existence of magic and whether the world at large knows it exists or not is not made clear. Repeatedly throughout the game Scarlett is warned not to take what she sees too seriously lest she be swept away in the illusion; this is another good concept as it creates an interesting unreliable narrator, the perspective you are reading from cannot be trusted to tell you what is real and what is illusion. But Scarlett’s perspective does not read as intentionally deceptive, it reads as though Garber genuinely does not know what is happening in her own story.
As for the character building, all of the characters feel underdeveloped. They are all thrown into the plot with little to no personality or development, as if they are pawns that Garber uses to keep the rapid fire plot moving. Scarlett’s character consists of protecting her sister, being afraid of her father - who is written to be abusive in almost an unnecessarily cruel way - and a love triangle. She has almost no personality of her own, as it all depends on the existence of the people around her giving her purpose. Parts of Scarlett and Donatella’s character building, especially when it comes to their relationship with their father and romantic interests in men, are really disturbing or misogynistic. A good example is this line from the book: “While Scarlett often feared men, Tella was the opposite, always chasing after the wrong ones, hoping one might give her the love their father withheld.” Garber tells far more than she shows, popping out of fiction or dialogue to narrate what is happening. Such as this passage, in which a major character development is summarized in a few sentences instead of being demonstrated throughout the story: “She didn’t know the exact instant when it happened, but an arranged marriage to a man she knew only through letters was no longer something Scarlett wanted. Finally she understood what Tella meant when she’d said there was more to life than being safe.”
In summary, Stephanie Garber is an inexperienced writer, or at least she was when she wrote Caraval. Since it is her first book and a part of a series, I can perhaps look past the inexperience of her writing in favor of assuming the next book is better, or that she improved with time. But as a standalone book, Caraval is not well written. Garber had good ideas, and lots of ambition trying to fit so many in such a cramped space, but she did not have the skill to execute them well. If you are looking for a good whimsical book, I would recommend The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. A common critique of The Night Circus I see is that there is too much whimsy and not enough plot. I think this critique is valid, but I am also of the opinion that the whimsy is very well written and makes it a very enjoyable read nonetheless, and the excess of well written whimsy might make up for what Caraval lacks. Perhaps if you combined Caraval and The Night Circus you would have a truly complete fantasy novel.

So @LetsTalkRobbie (his Twitter handle, dunno if he has a Tumblr) posted some concept art from Nicolas Bannister, who is a Concept Designer and does visual development for Arlo the Alligator Boy (a film on Netflix).  They also did a few covers for The Unstoppable Wasp comic series. At least I think it’s the same Nicolas Bannister.  I sure hope so. Anywho, the tweet delved into some art they did back in 2018 on a new Ghost Rider series, involving a new character along with Robbie Reyes.  This girl (who only goes by “Kahry”) was going to be the next Ghost Rider, presumably with Robbie as a mentor for her, mirroring Johnny Blaze and Robbie’s relationship. The comic never got off of the ground, but Bannister’s personal website has some other pictures going through the process of creating her, all of which are very interesting to see (all pictures are his, for the record):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(For the record, the shoes themselves are goddamn fire (pun intended) and I want them.) I would encourage you to go see all of the pictures as well as the rest of Bannister’s portfolio.  He’s a fantastic artist.
But of course, because I’m me, I’m wondering how they could fit into the great Marvel universe, or perhaps the Big Hero 6 universe. And then I kind of had to stop myself. It feels...weird taking someone else’s character and ideas and trying to meld into something personal for myself. You’re probably saying to yourself “Jason, you [insert adjective here] [insert noun here], that’s what you do for everything else for your fanfiction.  How is this any different?” Well. The idea never fully materialized into anything.  With Big Hero 6, the Marvel cameos, and everyone else, it’s...established?  They’re in the open.  Yes, Robbie and Peni and everyone else belong to their creators, but part of the reason that I write them is to bring attention to them. Doing the same to something that never got to that point feels... ...Wrong? I don’t know; maybe I’m just overthinking things.  But then again, I don’t want to take away from the general awesomeness that is this character.  The intention is not to delude anything that Bannister has done with this. I will just say, though...

Or maybe I’ll just leave things unsaid.

How has writing fan fiction changed your life so far?
I have a lot more friends than I did, so there’s that.
Uh, I’m also an actress (for those who haven’t heard me say I’m a musical theatre major, like, eighty-seven times) and I write my own original plays that I’m producing at my university, and I find myself getting a lot more creative with them?  Like, I had to create a backstory for my Acting II class, and I played this girl, Louka, in Man and the Arms by George Bernard Shaw (which, by the way, is a fantastic show, and I’d love to play her in either a Broadway or movie version someday), and I had to create a backstory for her.  In the play, she’s a servant who’s engaged to another servant, Nicola, but she’s having an affair with her boss’s daughter’s fiance, Sergius.  In the end, her and Sergius do end up together, but he’s kind of an asshole and she stands up to him the entire time.  She has a lot of attitude for a woman in the 1800s, especially a servant woman.  I had to write a backstory for her on why she is the way she is, and I decided that her family used to be wealthy but after her mother died, her father made poor mistakes and lost their fortune, and she now has to work as a servant to support the two of them.  And it was really long winded and a lot more detailed, but I don’t think it would’ve been as good if I wasn’t writing fanfiction, if that makes sense.
Plus, my professor said I had the best and most detailed back story of everyone in the class.

At long last, I got to see Tanz in Vienna again
I have FINALLY returned home to Vienna. Of course, on the next day I immediately had to go and watch Tanz der Vampire.
I cannot even begin to describe how incredibly cathartic it is to finally see the Vienna version once again, after having watched the Stage and St. Gallen version. I have seen three different productions of Tanz now, and until this day, I still like the Vienna version the most. In my personal opinion, a snowy evening in Vienna during Christmas time is the absolute best time to watch Tanz der Vampire. Naturally, I will see it more than once while I am here. But let’s talk about tonight, shall we?
Well, since we all pretty much know the Vienna version already, I will not waste much time on the set and costumes. It’s still the same historical gothic set from 2009, BUT there are a few changes: The projections and animations, for instance, are different now and the cave at the beginning of He, ho, he is much more three-dimensional. The ballroom also performs a 180-degree turn, which looks AWESOME. And of course, we have the new ending, which makes things much much clearer. There were also minor tweaks to some of the staging and costumes (the sudden appearance of Dream!Sarah and Krolock’s even more gothic cape symbol for instance). But overall it’s still the version I love more than the others. Now...let us talk about the cast I had tonight :D
Graf von Krolock - Florian Fetterle. Boy, was I lucky to have him, since he apparently only plays once or twice a month. And I did not regret it. Florian is a great Krolock! He puts his own touch on the role. You don’t just think “Ah, an understudy”, you actually see a proper Krolock interpretation on stage. Florian’s Krolock feels a bit like Javert at some point: he has this same dutiful and disciplined way to go about things and he is determined to complete his tasks. He knows he must prepare and hold a ball and he is very keen on achieving this. He has everything planned and under control. However, he is also a very upper-class Krolock. Not a single moment did I think he was in love with Sarah. During Totale Finsternis he acted as if he wanted to say “Yeah, as if, you peasant.” When the word “Feelings” came up, he rolled with his eyes and gestured into the air, as if he’s thinking “Yeah, whatever, feelings, yay. What is this kitsch show I got myself into?” And then the Gier happened. He did it a bit like a Shakespearean tragedy monologue. In this one scene, he showed that he used to love in his human days, but that love is long since extinguished and everything during his vampire state means essentially nothing to him. I really did enjoy Florian’s Krolock and would love to see him again! And he’s definitely got the voice!
Sarah - Diana Schnierer. FINALLY we get a Sarah who actually looks like she is 17 years old! While some Sarah’s portray their character actually being interested in Alfred, Diana kinda only plays with him. She is nice and all, but she definitely wants to get to Castle Krolock as fast as possible. She is totally taken in by Krolock and all the wonders he promises her. When she turns into a vampire, she is vicious and enjoys every single moment of it. But she is also much braver than some other Sarahs. She is not as shy. She seductively sinks back into the bathtub when Chagal instructs her to do so, she really MAKES Alfred look to the right parts during Du bist wirklich sehr nett, she is counting on him falling for her tricks. She tries to kiss Krolock during Totale Finsternis, only for him to be turned away immediately, she did a lot of things with Sarah and I loved a lot of it! But having said that, she is not a bad person. During Alles is hell and Wahrheit, she exchanges some friendly and playful looks with Alfred and during Draußen ist Freiheit she actually looks like she gives a damn about him. But yeah, otherwise, totally Team Krolock for her. Diana also has a fantastic voice and, despite her slight accent, she really sold the role for me!
Alfred - Raphael Gross. Ok, this guy is EASILY my new favourite Alfred. He is so innocent all of the time, but at the same time he is not a bumbling idiot but actually knows what’s going on, he’s just very naive. When his Alfred tries to remember the word “rip” it’s not because he’s stupid or so, but it feels more like he’s forgetting things because he is massively stressed out by the situation. This Alfred feels like he is just beginning his studies at the university and this could very well be his first field trip. He respects Abronsius but is also not afraid to counter him. During Tot zu sein ist komisch, when they descend the stairs and Abronsius makes the noise: He calls Alfred out with an annoyed “Boy!”, Raphael replies with pretty much the same tone of voice “Professor!”. Or during Die Gruft, when Abronsius is like “Do you think it’s fun hanging here?”, Raphael replies with an annoyed and stressed-out “No!”. When he’s turned into a vampire, he becomes just as vicious as Sarah. And he has a great voice! Für Sarah was definitely a highlight of the evening. As I said, easily my new favourite Alfred.
Professor Abronsius - Luc Steegers. Again, I am amazed how good the understudies in this production are. Luc Steegers, just like Florian Fetterle, felt like a first cast member to me. His Abronsius is purely an academic driven by his goal. I saw a bit of Gernot Kranner in him as well, which was quite nice :D What I also really enjoyed was his comedic timing of “old man moments”. Especially his freakout during Die Gruft was a highlight. Sometimes I was worried about the quick parts in his songs but he mastered them. He is still not my favourite Abronsius, but who knows what the future might bring. His voice is also really great and totally suiting the professor.
Chagal - Nicolas Tenerani. I already liked him from what I’ve seen and heard through media but seeing him live was a new experience altogether. I like his Chagal. He is a bit more aggressive than the other Chagals I have seen so far. He plays the nice innkeeper but he is not grovelling in front of his guests like some other Chagals do. But he also appears to be a bit angrier with Sarah than some other Chagals. He really lets her know that she messed up. And he is also not grovelling before Koukol. He makes it clear that he’s only giving him candles because otherwise, he might get in trouble with Krolock, not because he’s afraid of the hunchback himself. Since I heard Nicolas talk in real life, I am amazed by the spectacular voice acting he did with Chagal. It does not sound like him at all XD But that only shows how good of an actor he is. I am impressed!
Magda - Marle Martens. I also have a new favourite Magda! She looks the part and she definitely SOUNDS the part. I have never heard a Magda with such a strong and pure voice before. Not once did I hear any falter on her part. Tot zu sein ist komisch was just a blessing for my ears. And she also acts the part really well! When she is human, she is quite good and morally on the right side, but also independent and will not take any shit from Chagal. She is also really nice to Alfred, especially when he helps her with the turnips during Wahrheit. When she is a vampire, she is going all out, every single movement being seductive. And she also cackles, laughs and really has a lot of fun with the role. So yeah, my new favourite Magda it is :D
Herbert - Christoph Apfelbeck. I have seen Christoph in quite a few things already! I saw him as Artus in the Austrian “Artus-Excalibur” production and also as the Nightmare Solo in St. Gallen. So I was excited to see him as Herbert, and he did NOT disappoint! He was playful but also gave away this Malfoy like atmosphere. This Herbert is clearly the princess of the castle and does whatever he wants. This is the kind of Herbert I always read about in fanfictions: Funny, always in a good mood, doesn’t take shit, just enjoys his undead existence XD And again! Amazing understudy casting by the VBW right here.
Rebecca - Dawn Bullock. I honestly don’t really know what to say big about her. Rebecca is just such a role that doesn’t give you that many places for highlights. But every opportunity that is given to her, she takes. The comedic timing is great and the line delivery is on point! I don’t know what else I can ask for here :D
Koukol - Florian Resetarits. Originally, Jordan Hinchliffe was supposed to play Koukol on this show, but then Florian jumped in again. I don’t know why but it happened, so there we go. I loved Florian’s Koukol! He reminded me of Thomas Weissengruber quite a lot. But then I also saw other things! This Koukol is not an idiot XD He is very loyal to Krolock, doesn’t take shit from anybody and is never far off from using aggression. But he also has his moments of niceness like during Ein perfekter Tag where he makes an attempt to talk to Alfred or during Die Gruft when he grins like a sneaky child stealing sweets as he realises that he’s about to get a small solo segment. And he also keeps making sounds and grunts while walking through the audience, which just amazing XD Definitely a great Koukol!
So yeah, my first Tanz show of this season was absolutely brilliant! I’m seeing it again on Wednesday but this time with Filippo as Krolock! I am very much looking forward to it! Aaaah, so good to finally be back in Vienna!

Okay, I finished @humlesnurr’s prompt, yay! It’s not very good, but at least I’m getting back into writing, so thank you so much! (Still working on the other prompts as well.)
I believe you had something happier in mind, but you know, they’re still idiots - hope you have fun anyway! <3
Prompt was: Gellert responding differently to the "Because I was in love with you" at that date <3
Fate
Would this be one of your regular haunts?
Only Gellert could have the unbearable charming confidence to open the first meeting in decades like that. It was curious, really, that Albus did not mind. He did not mind at all. In fact, if he was completely honest with himself, the feeling that surfaced in his chest at Gellert’s flippant opening line could only be adoration. How did he manage to make him smile so easily when nothing in the world was easy right now?
The blood troth moved around his hand in recognition, content to have them both in such proximity.
Warm.
That would have to be his answer. It felt warm around his neck, like the blood contained within it. It felt comforting. Alive. Terribly so.
But he could not grant Gellert an answer, too great was the risk that he would use it to try and sway him. And despite everything he wasn’t sure that his stance was firm enough to resist. Maybe Gellert knew and that was why he did not even dignify his proposal of freeing each other with an answer.
“What you are doing is madness.”
And how could he not see that? It was not what they had said they’d do. It was never how he had imagined it. He could not imagine that Gellert had meant this all along when they had talked endlessly in warm summer nights about a world that was better than the one they lived in. Or perhaps it was him who was remembering it wrong? Was his memory and conscience playing tricks on him?
“I was young. I was -“
“- committed. To me. To us.”
He almost had to laugh. Committed. It made it seem like a business, the troth like a contract - when it had been so much more than that. He was never confident around Gellert anymore but he still knew him, at least he thought he did. At least a small part of him. And he saw that Gellert wanted this to be a strategic meeting. His turn in a game of chess.
He saw that Gellert wanted him to see reason as much as the other way around, too. It could never be merely game or business between them.
“No. I went along because -“
Somehow saying it was not as easy as it had once been.
“Because?”
“Because I was in love with you.”
For a moment he managed to hold Gellert’s piercing gaze until it becomes unbearable. How could it sound so simple? As if their relationship wasn’t the single most difficult thing in his life.
“And I was in love with you. Yet here we are. I am doing what we said we’d do. It was you who said we could reshape the world, that it was our birthright.”
“But not like this. This was never what I wanted.”
Gellert chuckled. A mixture of cold fury and fond amusement. “It is very much like you to want to break our vow and tell me what to do.”
“If you did what I wanted you to do I would never ask you to break the pact.”
“Tell me, what do you want me to do, Albus?”
He swallowed. “I want you to stop riling up the masses. Stop causing so many deaths. Stop starting a war. Stop and -,” his voice broke and became quiet. “Gellert, if you were ever in love with me then you know perfectly well what I imagined - what we planned.”
Gellert studied him for a long time and it took and it took everything in him to hold his gaze. When Gellert spoke next his voice was low and heavy.
“If you remembered, Albus, who proposed the pact you would not say such a thing. Do you remember?”
Naturally, he did.
The water was running steadily down the stream on the outskirts of Godric’s Hollow. It glistened crystal in the summer sun and trickled along the riverbank, the colorful meadow and the old willow tree. It was their favorite spot - where the mill, the stream and the willow met on the seam between village and forest.
They met right before dusk could take over, while it was still so warm that Albus had opened his waistcoat and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and Gellert had discarded any regard for clothing customs and had shed all but his trousers and half-buttoned shirt. He had his feet dangling in the cool stream, his head cushioned on his arms, his pretty face calm and content in a way it rarely ever was.
Albus could imagine him like this by the pillars of Hercules, on the bank of the Skamandros, on a ship on the Nile.
Gellert had the gift of sight but whenever Albus imagined his future, he could only see Gellert by his side as certainly as if Fate herself had placed him there.
He ran his fingertips along Gellert’s exposed collarbones and smiled at him, when he opened his eyes at the touch.
Gellert returned his smile. He reached up and gently twirled a strand of Albus’s hair around his finger, holding it up against the sun, eyeing it intently.
“Sit up,” he said, suddenly and sit up they did.
“Are you all right?” Albus asked, when Gellert took his hands almost solemnly.
“Yes. Listen, I’ve been thinking - “ He took a deep breath. Albus frowned. Gellert was a master of words, he didn’t stumble upon sentences like this very often. “I’ve told you about my visions, I know that it is not always going be easy. A revolution will take time and sacrifice and I know I can only do it with you by my side.”
Albus’s heart fluttered and he squeezed his hands. “It is you, who makes me feel free, my dear. We are the most powerful wizards on this earth, we can do anything when we’re together.”
“Anything but live openly - for now, at least.”
“Not forever.”
“No. I know that you are my only equal, Albus, my twin soul, my better half. I know that I will spend my life with you. I know this bond and I know no spell and no ridiculous law could ever alter it but I want to swear it to you, anyway.” When their eyes met there was a glimmer in Gellert’s that somehow was both determined and insecure. “I want my blood to know yours, I want to have my magic woven with yours, I want Fate to know that it is us.”
“Gellert…?”
“There are many oaths they won’t let us take, but as you said, we can do anything. Please, would you make a blood pact with me?”
Albus’s face slowly spread into a ridiculous grin. His insides were melting and he doubted his body would be able to hold all the incredible beautiful feelings Gellert’s words had placed there. He wanted to scream with happiness, speak it into the universe itself, devour Gellert on the spot - but he merely found himself nodding.
“Yes. Of course, yes!” Laughter bubbled up inside of him, because Merlin, did Gellert really think for one second that he could refuse, when he could imagine nothing more perfect than seal their bond with magic.
“I do,” he said, “where did all that go?” His own voice was barely above a whisper now.
Gellert shook his head ever so slightly. “You tell me, Albus. You tell me.”

6 movies I can watch anytime:
I was tagged in this forever ago by @lucifers-trash-stash Thanks for tagging me!!  To diversify this list, I’ll limit movie series to one listing.
1. Avengers
My all time favourite movie. I’m quite certain I’ve seen it well over 100 times. Loki is one of my ultimate obsessions so I could pretty much be content watching any of the MCU movies he’s in on repeat all day every day.
Tumblr media
2. The Dark Knight trilogy
Batman holds a special place in my heart as it got me into the fantasy aspect of fandom after I discovered the world of fanfiction. Nine years later, I’m still in contact with the first author whose work I read and obsessed over. I consider her one of the most influential people in my life.
Tumblr media
3. The Silence Of The Lambs
This film appeals to my love of psychological and dark themes. Oddly enough, I find myself quoting it more than any other movie. I give the name Clarice for all my reward card memberships for reasons unknown. It just makes me happy.
Tumblr media
4. National Treasure
I adored the first film as I’m drawn to historically inspired fiction. I had the amazing opportunity to be background extra in the sequel and met Nicolas Cage on set. Knowing he was a wine connoisseur, I gave him a bottle of Virginia wine from a local vineyard. Dude gets a bad rep but is a total sweetheart.
Tumblr media
5. Harry Potter
This is the ideal fantasy world to escape to. I haven’t watched it in ages as I always feel compelled to watch the films in subsequent order but I adore the books and film series. It always brings me to a happy place.
Tumblr media
6. Moulin Rouge
The visuals are awe-inspiring and the songs are fantastic. It’s such a unique film in the sense that it blends so many aspects into a single cinematic experience.

I hope you don’t mind me adding to this, love ;) This is my HC (and a kind of prologue :D):
After WWI ends there are a bunch of children left homeless and without parents and all the orphanages are struggling with their capacities, so the head of the social affairs department in the German parliament decides that all available members of the parliament (which includes Gellert) are to take in a child until the situation is sorted. Gellert curses, bc really Müller of all people shouldn’t try to tell him what to do, but in the end, he’s part of the parliament and as much as he’d like he’s not chancellor, so he does as he’s told, though not without a lot of complaining.
They give him a young boy from Elsass-Lothringen, Johann they say he’s called, who is so quiet in his dirty clothes and thin blanket that Gellert isn’t sure he’s even alive. He takes him home to Albus, bc at least Albus is working with children, he’s supposed to know how to handle these things.
Albus isn’t happy at first, claiming he’s only teaching children, older children, if Gellert had forgot he’s not good with such responsibilities, what was the parliament even thinking randomly distributing children and so on... but in the end he cleaned Johann anyway. He wrote to Estelle, Aberforth’s wife, and asked her for old clothes of Percy, their oldest son. Estelle immediately sent a package with all kinds of handmade clothing and blankets and hats and unnervingly noisy toys. The boy seemed to warm up to Albus slowly (Gellert was sure that was due to Albus’ persistent offering of sweets and cocoa, although Albus denied that), which was good. It was practical. The more the boy listened to them, the more he communicated (even with the limited amount of language he was able to produce at his age; good thing Albus spoke German rather well already) the easier it was for them to manage.
Less practical, but of course, of course, he should’ve seen it coming: Albus was getting attached to Johann. Gellert knew that he tried not to, tried to keep up some distance and remind himself he was no good use for this, but each time Johann cried and stretched out his arms for him, each time Johann laughed with his mouth tainted by hot chocolate, each time Johann followed him around on his little unsteady legs as if he couldn’t be a second in a different rooom, Gellert could see Albus’ wall of distance crumble.
“You shouldn’t get attached to him,” he’d told Albus once.
Albus was rocking the sleeping boy in his arms, as if it would kill him to let him cry for a little bit in his bed. “I know.” Albus had replied. “I’m not.”
It was the most blatant lie Albus had ever told him. He didn’t even try to hide it.
He did hope that Müller would take care of the situation quickly. He didn’t even know what was taking him so long, except for his glaring incompetence. It was exasperating, really.
When his birthday came, Johann had been with them for 2 months, so he was quite surprised when the boy handed him a drawing of... well, Gellert wasn’t quite sure, what was depicted but the boy beamed at him with light blue eyes and a curl of blonde hair falling onto his forehead. It struck him for a second that, if it had been possible, if they ever had had a child, it would look quite like Johann. Albus’ eyes, his hair, dimples on his cheeks, when he smiled. An unusual wave of affection overcame him, something warm and gewy that swapped from his chest to his stomach, so he petted the boy’s head and smiled at him.
Half a year later, when Johann had apparently got used to living with them and Gellert had gotten used to having the child around and Albus had decided Johann trusted him enough to do with a bit of strictness (meaning sleeping alone in his bed, sweets on weekends only and strictly ignoring tantrums), Müller finally announced that the children could now move to the newly opened orphanages or foster families, respectively. Something about that didn’t sit right with him, though.
When he told Albus that evening, he didn’t even flinch. “No.” He said simply.
“We can’t keep him forever,” Gellert said.
“Why not exactly?” Albus asked.
Because children were annoying and expensive and much more responsibility than he’d ever wanted? And they were not exactly born to be caretakers either? But then again, they’d managed for 8 months now. Johann seemed to be fine. They were fine.
And he knew, deep down, that it was a kind of redemption for Albus. A poor child that had been thrust upon him unwillingly, but this time he would get it right, he would not fail Johann like he’d failed Ariana. Gellert knew, because sometimes, in quite secluded moments, he felt himself a part of the guilt and shame that he knew Albus still felt.
And so, he gave in. And so, Johann stayed with them.
since you’re procrastinating, how do you think Grindeldore would be as parents? :D Who’d be the disciplining parent/the one who spoils too much/ the one who says “Go ask your father” / the one who makes Dad jokes? X’D
I just got around to makeing myself read a paper on unconscious thought, but what the hell, this is more fun.
I think Gellert would put up a front of being the tough parent that can’t be argued with, sets up strict rules and demands a lot of their kid, but he’d crumble at the slightes resistance.
“Papa …”
“It’s ‘Vater’”, Gellert grumbles into his morning paper.
“Can I have the new Comet?”
“No”
“But Papa …”
“I said no!”
“But cousin Kendra has one and she says I’m not as good as her, but I swear it’s just her broom and I KNOW if I just -”
“ She said WHAT?”
“That I’m not as good as her and she made fun of me and -”
“That’s it, we’re going to Diagon Alley!”
He’d end up not being the strict parent, but instead the parent every teacher absolutely detests, because they marge into school at the slightest sign their child had been put at a disadvantage. Albus becomes used to having to step in when his husband borderline harasses his colleagues and boss over such atrocities as a missed point in an assignment.
Albus, contrary to what one might think, is the stricter of the two. He has to teach his own children at Hogwarts, so in his effort care to not seem biased towards them, he sometimes ends up being stricter with them than with his other students. He’s also the one who always makes sure that rule breaking was followed by actual consequences so their children wouldn’t end up as spoiled little devils.
But he is also the one who bakes them cake on their birthdays and makes sure they were their (hand knitted) hats and scarfs when it’s cold so they don’t fall ill. And he never goes a day without telling them he loves them. Because there is still a part of him that doesn’t think he is suited to be a caretaker. He’s terrified of not loving his children enough, of failing them, though he is good at hiding it and really only Gellert knows.
(edit: feel free to add your own headcanons. This could be fun :D)
