Nicolaes Maes 1634-1693 The Old Lacemaker 1655 Oil on canvas Photo is taken by @robertpuffjr The Old Lacemaker (c. 1655) is an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch painter Nicolaes Maes. It is an example of Dutch Golden Age painting and is part of the collection of the Mauritshuis. The painting shows a woman making bobbin lace and the lace pillow she is using is the same in all the paintings Maes made of lacemakers. (This writeup is taken from the description at Wikipedia.) Portrait of a Boy in Classical Dress with a Bullfinch and Spaniel, Nicolaes Maes, c. 1670, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Paintings
little boy with shoulder-length blonde hair and brown eyes, wearing a green cap with a tall white feather and a pink skirted garment with a white blouse underneath and a red cloth over his shoulders, holding a brown finch on his extended PL index finger; finch has a ribbon attached to its leg, which the boy holds in his PR hand; jumping brown and white spaniel with its mouth open at boy's PR hip; image in an oval with brown border This portrait of a boy, although small in scale, is immediately engaging due to the boy’s direct and confident gaze at the viewer, his eye-catching attire, and the liveliness of the composition. It is an allegory for the importance of discipline and restraint in the upbringing of children. The calm assurance communicated by the boy’s face and posture convince the viewer that he will triumph over the unruly nature of his canine companion and will be the model of controlled restraint, just like his pet bullfinch. Size: 16 11/16 × 11 11/16 in. (42.39 × 29.69 cm) (sight) 22 5/8 × 17 11/16 × 2 in. (57.47 × 44.93 × 5.08 cm) (outer frame) Medium: Oil on panel

Girl at a Window, known as ‘The Daydreamer’ by Nicolaes Maes, Museum of the Netherlands

By the seventeenth century, depictions of carpets were widespread throughout Europe. The seventeenth-century painter Nicolas #Maes depicted a young girl peeling apples, seated next to a table covered with a sumptuous Turkish carpet with red and yellow arabesques from central Turkey. The pattern was a favorite in Europe at that time. . . . . #ruglife #ruglove #worntoperfection #rugenvy #antiquerugs #modernbohemian #boho #howyouhome #vintageshop #interiordesign #apartmenttheraphy #vintagerugs #vintagerugshop #vintagestyle #interiorforinspo #myeclecticmix #decorcrushing #housetohome #carpetlove #newyorkinterior #torontointerior #sodomino #mycovetedhome #doingneutralright #handmaderugs #passionforinterior #nicolaesmaes #turkishrug #turkishrugs https://www.instagram.com/loomandbeyond/p/BuHjMsMBjaE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=u6vjl4jvp9d8
