For each act of revenge enacted on another, you trade eyes, or at least, the colour of them depending on how body horror you want to go with it. Some people take pride in them, but it’s a very literal way of tracking relationships between people. “I see you know this person, I can see them in your eyes.”

Lestat leaves Paris— and his eyes behind. One stays with Nicki, one with Armand (who will spend the rest of Nicki’s life swapping them between each other).

He meets Louis and Claudia and knows, without a shadow of a doubt, who their maker is. Louis looks at him with one green eye, and one that used to be Nicki’s. Claudia looks at him with one of his own (just one more reason to see himself in her— and to despise her for it). An eye she’s only ever known to be Lestat’s.
