Long story short, we had a fantastic night at the Nectar Lounge Friday night, our first Little Lies concert of 2023.

Of course we had a fantastic night. We love this band.

It was, though, a bigger deal this time around. It was the band's tribute to and send-off of Christine McVie who passed away at the end of last November. So the band not only performed their set of Fleetwood Mac classics, they devoted their second set to songs by Christine McVie featuring a Who's Who of local vocalists and one serious guitar shredder.

Molly Sides.

Shaina Shepherd.

Kim West.

Kate Dinsmore.

Jen Ayers.

And Kathy Moore.

Now the first thing that hit us about experiencing all these lead singers, one after the other on the same stage, is that we've had this experience before. It was the Rock Vault show in Las Vegas where lead singers and musicians from various classic rock bands perform songs by their own and other bands of the era. My point, though, is we similarly experienced a number of lead vocalists at that show. We observed how they present themselves and how they engage audiences. We got to compare personalities and styles and how we responded to each of them.

The same was true for us Friday night. Each lead vocalist's talent and skill is beyond question, of course. It's in the how of how they employed their talent and skill on-stage that sets each apart. It was a bit of a Master Class in fronting a rock band.

It was also an incredible and unique experience. And a genuine delight.

The second thing that hit us was how much fun everyone was having up there on stage. How much they genuinely embraced the experience. 

This is not a small point, by the way. Because there's a joy in these songs, however classic they are. However much personal chaos produced them way back when. There is joy here. And The Little Lies experienced every last ounce of it.

And because they did...

We did.

And that is a gift, my friends.

The third thing that hit us, the last thing, actually, were the thoughtful moments in service of Christine McVie's memory.

To begin the tribute, Miranda Zickler read the words Stevie Nicks penned to her best friend, McVie, shortly after McVie's death.

In her note, Nicks writes: "one song has been swirling around in my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her and so, I’m singing it to her now. I always knew I would need these words one day.”

The name of the song is "Hallelujah" by the band, Haim. Zickler and fellow Little Lies bandmate, Linzy Collins, then performed the song for the audience at the Nectar Lounge.

The lyrics, as Nicks suggests, are perfection to the moment.

From the third verse:

"I had a best friend but she has come to pass / One I wish I could see now / You always remind me that memories will last / These arms reach out / You were there to protect me like a shield / Long hair, running with me through the field / Everywhere, you’ve been with me all along,” 

It was a superbly touching moment, a moment of solace and reflection, a moment of appreciation and remembrance, bringing us together in a public farewell which was then followed by guest vocalist after guest vocalist celebrating the music, songs, and performances of Christine McVie.

It was a big night. An important night. A letting go and a full embrace of a classic rock icon.

A heartfelt celebration.

Pride in the Friendly City: Orrick Hosts 2024 'Pride in Wheeling Day'

Every year, communities across the country and state celebrate Pride Month. For the 8th year in a row, Orrick promotes Pride by hosting its annual “Pride in Wheeling” community event. This year, the event will be held on Friday, June 7th. Pride in Wheeling is not only a celebration but a coming together of volunteer groups around community improvement projects and a conversation about diversity, equity & inclusion. Orrick partnered with local sponsors WesBanco, NAMI Greater Wheeling, Dinsmore and Crittenton Services to promote this year’s event, which is truly about locally fostering inclusion and development. The Pride in Wheeling 2024 event involves working along the Wheeling Heritage Trail picking up trash and painting two murals. Volunteers will also be painting the walls at the Garden Park in Warwood. The Heritage Port Playground will be the homebase for the event. The playground is located on the trail, just North of the intersection of 11th and Water St at Heritage Port. Nick Dinsmore Vs. Rico Constantino NWA Ohio Valley Wrestling [July 19th, 2000]

In the early 2000′s, WWE fans were introduced to two memorable characters who are more remembered for their personalities rather than their abilities. Eugene was a wrestler who’s described as “someone who couldn’t put a square peg in a round hole”, but would emulate wrestlers he grew up enjoying, such as The Junkyard Dog and Hulk Hogan. Rico was the effeminate stylist for Billy & Chuck, who would later go on to win tag team gold with partner Charlie Haas. 

Although WWE fans might recall the two for their attitudes and personalities, fans of OVW in the late 90s and early 2000s will remember them for matches like these, where both men showed that they could go with anyone in the world. Rico Constantino, a former American Gladiator turned wrestler, takes on the OVW Heavyweight Champion “Mr. Wrestling” Nick Dinsmore, both of whom were beloved. With Rico returning from a knee injury, he wanted to return with guns blazing by taking out the champion, even if it meant making some friends out of former enemies.

That famous story of Cornette writing out a list of the guys in OVW ready to go, with guys like Nick Dinsmore (Later known as Eugene) at the top, LIKE READY TO GO, and then guys like Luther Reigns at the very bottom and Laurinaitis calls up all the bottom boys because they’re all muscle meatheads.

To be fair he is working with yet another guy that smacks of 2009 ECW “New Superstar Initiative” in Mojo Rawley and they’re working the 24/7 title division...so it really isn’t that much of a worry is it?

Your Woman Crush for this Week is Scarlett Bordeaux!

The 27 year vixen started in wrestling when she was just 19.  She got her formal training with Ohio Valley Wrestling with Al Snow and nick Dinsmore helping her provide her base for her future success.

She would move on to Ring of Honor where she’d spend a bulk of her time within the House of Truth, where she actually got to showcase her singing voice from time to time. 

She’d begin to compete more regularly but wouldn’t find much success in ROH’s blossoming women’s division.  She would appear a few times for the WWE, as enhancement talent and never caught the eye of the upper management.

This summer though, Bordeaux caught the eyes of IMPACT Wrestling, who signed her to a deal.  She’s set to debut this very Thursday on Pop TV with the gimmick to bring “sexy back” to pro wrestling.  While she has a sexualized character, it also centers around her not being “shamed” for her expressing her sexuality,   a topic many can relate to today.

She’s multi-talented, on the verge of breakout success and beautiful to boot.  So for all these reasons and more, she’s your Woman Crush for this Week.

The Lords Of The Ring [February 22nd, 2011]

A very cool candid that I snapped during OVW’s Homecoming III event of one of the company’s most beloved teams. During the early 2000′s, the team of Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway made up a duo known as The Lords Of The Ring, former OVW Southern Tag Team Champions who kept The Revolution at bay. The team of Doug Basham and The Damaja would do everything in their power to run OVW into the ground on their quest to becoming WWE superstars, but Conway and Dinsmore fought them back at every turn, eventually leading to the disbandment of the group. The two would, years later, feud in the WWE as Conway was part of La Resistance during their feud against Eugene (Dinsmore) and William Regal.
