1. jules and albert

DONT EVEN PLAY LAD. oh my GOD. there is just something about them that’s heartbreaking. thinking about them makes me so ill. SO ILL. i listen to their songs and think “wow, he really wrote this about albert” or “my god, this is about JULIAN”.

they’re toxic divorced old man yaoi but their relationship can also be so soft. the fact that they met each other again and they just happened to need a guitar player… AUGH. and then they immediately became roommates.

i like to think albert was/is able to see a more vulnerable or real side to julian than everyone else. even though they were all close friends, he probably still tried acting cool or put on some type of persona. i have a whole timeline of their relationship and my thoughts on it. (obviously it’s more rpf than reality)

alright so i started shipping them after reading about fab was almost like nick’s “muse” for photography. they also seem to be pretty close and hung out together even during the strokes hiatus. fab is such a idiot with a huge heart. and nick is the other idiot who fell in love with him. i’ve just started writing about them, so i’m still figuring how their relationships dynamics but there’s a really great fic about them on ao3!

nick/fab are just horny idiots who are like “bro being in a band is fun, let’s have sex” meanwhile jules/albert is much more disgusting and depressing.

3. julian/nikolai

okay so i don’t really ship anyone else in the strokes but I like reading about jules and niko, whether it’s platonic or romantic. they’ve been friends the longest. and i feel like they both had very different experiences being in the band. i think nikolai is probably the most normal in the band, and pairing him with the most or one of the most…definitely leads to some interesting ideas. i also think that because they’re so close, they’re comfortable calling each other out (like nikolai in that one interview lol). same with nick, all three seem to be the hotheads of the group and a lot of the angles dispute seemed to have them at the front. people write their dialogue so well in fics, they’re great.

Nick: It's just funny seeing that- seeing that video for the first time like I didn't really know who Blur, was. And it sort of gave me like a really, funny impression of them that they were like- sort of like a homosexual band. It's sort of like, the impression I got.

Albert: Nick being a homosexual, so it- it fit perfect-

Nick: [laughs] -and me being a homosexual it all fit. But then later on, sort of like... realized that it was a joke all along. But it's still a really cool song.

Nikolai: Or was it?

Their casual affection compared to casamond domestic toxicity, while Fab and Nick are doing all these cute things, jules and Albert are probably breaking up for the second time in a day and nikolai is just tired of them
