ok yknow what i’m gonna say it

no matter how “bad” logan has been or how “little” he deserves this 2nd year or how he’s a “pay driver” or whatever else y’all always say

he doesn’t deserve this. any of this

since the very first moment he stepped in a f1 car, he’s been treated as a joke. first it was the wtf is a kilometre jokes then rah rah eagles and now logan in the wall / fork found in kitchen / deuxmoi memes. every weekend, the commentators compare him to his teammate, ignoring the difference in experience and the way they aren’t even driving the same car and that logan was literally running last years specs multiple times. they compare him to oscar, who has driven multiple times f1 cars during test runs and is in a mclaren and the situations are not even remotely similar, ignoring that logan was promoted early, that he didn’t have much opportunity to drive f1 cars even for testing, that he was literally tossed into the deep end without any help and told to survive.

the only time they were even remotely kind to him was when they gave his car to alex. which thanks for the support or whatever but that is so backhanded i don’t even have the words to describe it.

i think we’re all coming to the terms with the reality that this will be his last year in f1. and i don’t think that’s fair for so many reasons. you promote him early, you give him a shit car, you talk bad about him in the media and you don’t promote him (lap of legends hello?) and you openly court other drivers for his seat. you disrespect him and allow others to disrespect him and that’s not right.

formula 1 is the dream for so many people. imagine achieving your dream, even if it’s in a joke of a team, even if it’s too early. but then you become the joke of a joke, you become the american, which is a bad thing. the outsider, the one who doesn’t belong. they make fun of you each weekend. they ask every day when you’ll be replaced.

(and yeah i agree. he does need to improve to have any hope of keeping his seat, f1 is brutal and it’s never been kind, and i’m not being naive and thinking oh it’s his dream and so he deserves it despite it all. i’m not saying that. what i am saying is that is a human being, just like nicholas latifi was, and some of you are too comfortable being cruel.)

speaking of being the american. they make fun of you as though that will punish the fia for putting 3 us races on the calendar. as though that will punish all the american fans who came to f1 through drive to survive. as though that will keep f1 pure and european and whatever the fuck else - they do the same to yuki and zhou and checo and lewis and even if logan’s situation is not even remotely similar to what they’ve experienced, there’s a bias to f1 that cannot be ignored.

but that’s not the point i’m trying to make. not today

this was your dream. this was your dream. and you were never allowed to enjoy it because you became the punchline of a joke the minute you accepted the seat. it was always going to end like this. you knew that.

so yeah. congrats to logan for achieving his dream of driving in f1! it’s unfortunate that he was never allowed to live it.

This happened because there were quite a few pen shootouts in the AFCON and asia cup ro16

Max Verstappen: has never even considered it. He’s already had enough of extra time. Absolutely no nonsense penalty taker. Just runs and whacks it.

Sergio Perez: no, he’s sensible. He might think about it in training he wouldn’t do it in the actual situation.

Lewis Hamilton: already did it once before when he was a young upstart but wouldn’t do it now

George Russell: no, and he will give you a whole PowerPoint about why trying to do a panenka is not Optimal

Charles Leclerc: wouldn’t be allowed to take a penalty. If he was still on the pitch he would probably be last to go if the shootout even got that far. They would put the goalkeeper ahead of him in the order. I’m sorry. Have you seen him try to kick a ball on a field? Only knows what a panenka is because of Carlos and Pierre talking about footy

Carlos Sainz: no. He’s probably tried it in training but he wouldn’t actually do it in a game. He does the jogging to the side thing before running up to take his penalty.

Fernando Alonso: yeah sure why not

Lance Stroll: no.

Lando Norris: not even in the squad. Can’t imagine this guy playing football in any universe. More likely to be filming from his phone in a hospitality box.

Oscar Piastri: no.

Pierre Gasly: brags to the whole world that he will. Doesn’t actually do it because he would crumble if he missed and the team didn’t get through. The type who takes small slow steps in the run up to the pen.

Warnings: Angst, fluff but not in a romantic way, purely platonic.

After your boyfriend breaks up with you leaving you heart broken, your best friend Nicholas is there to comfort you.

"Look Y/N, this just isn't working anymore, we want different things and I cant hold myself back any more. It's over"

His words stung like a knife in your back, you stood there clinging to your box of things with tears streaming down your face. "What do you mean it's over? I love you, I thought you loved me" you sobbed, standing drenched in the rain looking for hope in the eyes of your now ex-boyfriend.

"I do love you, but I can't be with you anymore" with that one last sentence he got into his car and drove away. You sank to the ground outside your house, tears pouring from your face and unable to breathe. You gathered your things from the pavement and took them inside.

You pulled out your phone to text the only person you knew you needed right now

'Please can I come over x'

'Of course x'

You made the short drive over to his house, squinting through your tears as you drove. You and Nicholas had been best friends since preschool, you had been there for each other through every single one of lifes ups and downs, every single make up and break up, every major life event, you where always there.

You pulled up at his front door and he was stood waiting for you with a hot tea in hand. "You're mom called me when you left the house, come here" Nick said holding his arms out to you.

You collapsed into his chest as the tears started to flow once again, "I hate him" you sobbed out as he guided you into the living room and onto the sofa without breaking away from you, "No you don't" he sighed, handing you your tea. You took a sip and looked up at him with sadness in your eyes. "Now talk to me, what happened"

"We'd been drifting apart for a while now, we wanted different things out of life. You know me Nicky, I want to get married and have kids some day, and he just doesn't, but I thought we could make it work, I really thought we could make it work"

Nicholas wrapped his arm around your shoulders, "Y/N, you shouldn't have to just make things work" he said sternly, "you deserve all the things you have ever wanted in life and nobody can take that away from you. I'm going to be your dude of honour when you have your fairytale wedding and im going to be a kickass uncle to your kickass kids some day. Because you are going to find someone who loves you for who you are and has the same goals for the future as you and it'll be amazing"

"But I still love him Nick"

"And sometimes love just isn't enough Y/N, you can love someone and they can still not be right for you and thats okay. You will be okay, when life throws you lemons you just throw them straight back and yell screw your lemons! But you'll be a stronger person because of it. I know you Y/N, this pain wont be forever and I'll be there for you, just like I've always been" you looked up at Nicholas as he wiped the tears from your eyes. "Come on, lets eat our weight in ice cream and watch a movie"

You sat with Nick all night, watching movies, eating junk food and just crying it all out, because it's okay to be sad about letting go, you can't have a rainbow without a little rain.

“You were just never going to tell me? That’s a great idea.” the older male declared restlessly giving the girl in front of him a small sarcastic round of applause. “I don’t need your help, I don’t need your support and most importantly I don’t need you!” Y/N Horner screamed pushing the man away with each point angry tears making paths down her y/s/c face. “You can push me away all you want but that doesn’t change the fact that at the end of the day you might not need me but you want me.” The Canadian replied calmly simply accepting the y/h/c woman’s weak assault, Nicholas knew Y/N didn’t mean it she was just tired and emotional and she had cracked. The dark haired man knew Y/N hated feeling weak; it was a trait Christian had unfortunately encouraged in the girl. 

Scoffing the y/h/c woman couldn’t help the hatred laced laugh that tumbled from her cherry lips  “I could never want you Latifi.” Y/N hissed aggressively, wiping the tears that were still falling, the young woman’s tone was uneasy due to the fallen tears but assertive nonetheless. 

“This isn’t you Y/N/N.” The Williams driver stated shaking his head sadly, gingerly taking a step towards the outraged woman. Maybe he’d been stupid thinking the use of her nickname would calm her but even the Canadian couldn’t dismiss the flash of regret that lit up the young Horner's y/e/c orbs momentarily. “You know nothing about me.” The British girl retaliated sternly. “I know more than you think.” The tall Canadian stated plainly. Y/N couldn’t help but shoot an eyebrow up in silent questioning at the man’s statement, it was almost a challenge. 

“I know you love the smell of burnt rubber, the feeling in the air just after it rains. You hate onions, in fact you despise them. I know you love to practice languages with other drivers, I know you crinkle your nose when someone says something you disagree with, I know all you want is to make your Father proud and I know you hide behind this tough persona. Tell me I’m wrong.” Nicholas listed his warm brown eyes subtly reading the pregnant woman's body language. “That doesn’t change anything.” Y/N responded blandly brushing a lock of her y/h/c hair out of her face. Running a hand over his face in frustration the driver couldn’t help but frown “God do you have to be such a bitch all the time?” 

“I’m not doing this with you.” The woman quipped back, stepping away from the navy blue donned man. “I’m trying! Why do you have to make it so hard to love you!” the man questioned, it was rhetorical, more of a fact rather than an opinion. Averting her gaze Y/N took a shaky breath resting a hand on her stomach in comfort “You don’t love me.” was all the Horner girl said. “And you know that for a fact do you?” Nicholas retorted numbly, crossing his arms in defence. “Because I don’t remember you ever asking me when you conducted that survey.” The Canadian continued his tone hurt, almost insulted. “And if you’d stayed after Monaco you wouldn’t even have the time to think that.” 

“Monaco was a mistake. It was a moment of madness, a lap in judgment.” Y/N rambled her gaze turned to the ground beneath them like it was the most interesting thing in the world.  “You don’t believe that.” Nicholas asserted once again taking a step towards the English Woman, this time it was slow and calculated almost like he was approaching a wounded animal. And in some ways he was. Y/N was wounded, she was harsh and defensive of herself and of her heart. The Canadian never really figured out who had hurt the girl previously but he promised himself that if the y/h/c woman just gave him a chance he’d never let her feel damaged ever again. Shrugging Y/N frowned “Maybe I do maybe I don’t”. 

“Look Y/N in four months you are going to be a Mother and I’m going to be a Father. I want to be there. For our child and for you.” Nicholas stated gently, finally close enough to bring the woman in for a hug, his long arms proving a safe space for the exhausted female. “Daughter Nic.” Y/N mumbled breathlessly, quietly nuzzling her nose into the man’s William’s shirt, the familiar cologne comforting. “Daughter?” the man replied softly, his voice unable to hide the small buzz of happiness he felt. Nodding her head Y/N couldn’t help but smile at the man’s reaction.
