So I wasn’t sure that was a misunderstanding for a while but i kept thinking about it and came to the conclusion that that sentence has no possible other meaning than that she died.

I find it almost funny that she’s the only one who canonically died in the strike and it wasn’t even because of the bulls. Almost. In reality tho its just sad gbr. Its so heartbreaking that her death wasn’t even for the strike but just out of anger. My poor poor feelings istg im shattered bc of that!

I also dont understand why we barely talk about that. Genuinely i just do not get it!

I feel like during the fight after that the newsies-at least the brooklyn ones- all screamed “for splint” before running into battle.

I also feel like the candles at the beginning of once and for all were for her. (For her and all the newsies that got badly wounded during the fight w the cops and where they dont know if they’ll make it but thats not what this post is about)

I hc her besties w mack and being a older sister figure to pips and/or rizz. I also think york had a crush on her for at least a while… maybe they even dated idk but just imagine those three idek who it would hit worse… of curse all of the brooklyn newsies a and also the others but especially brooklyn are torn apart…and spot? spot would blame himself to no ends for not being there. He isn’t even convinced that it wasn’t an accident. Not even Albert or Race can help. Hotshot is shattered to peaces when she hears the news. Myron is in shock and doesn’t even say anything and just sort of,,,, shuts down. Graves just holds niahm as she cries into her cusins shoulder. Bart suffers in silence. He doesn’t talk to anyone. He plays tough. He doesn’t show any hurt. He just sobs when he’s alone. Vince gets angry. He punches a wall and gets worse than split has ever been. Stitches cant handle any of it. Dots and waffles both break down. Alvin doesn’t know what to do with it. He doesn’t know how to handle it and hes honestly just confused at this point. Willie is at their lowest they’ve been in their life. Ace literally breakes and is never the same again after that. Archie feels guilty as hell because he and splint never really did get along. They only ever fought really and most newsies from their lodge saw them back each other up two times in their whole time there at the highest. Brass becomes distant. Dice wants to quit. Diamond is done with life and piggy is the only one who says a few words. (Thats all the brooklyn newsies i can think of rn…)

Anyway if i remember correctly, splint also lived with her family at that point so just take that to consideration. Idk if that right tho

Fazit: SPLINT AND HER DEATH DESERVE MORE ATTENTION

Y‘all r acting as if splint didn’t literally canonically D I E and that d u r i n g t h e t i m e the musical takes place between the rally and once and for all
