tbh delightful tags on the Gaius post, and I absolutely agree he was a True Believer - as memeable as his dialogue in the Praetorium may be, it also 100% genuine: Gaius totally believes every word of it, to the extents that you even start seeing the cracks as he tries to rationalise how his worldview still holds true even as you defiantly refuse to fall to his superior Strength of a Ruler.

That Ultima fight is as much a metaphorical battle of ideologies as it is a straight up fight, and for as much as he tries to get the last word in... when he loses, his fundamental beliefs are as much of a burning wreck around him as the praetorium itself.

And not only did he lose - he survived. Everything he has believed up until that point tells him he should have won, or failing that, that he should've been slain by a stronger, more righteous ruler. Yet he both lost... and lived, and finds himself face to face with the bitter realisation that he, Gaius van Baelsar, the infamous Black Wolf, Legatus of the XIV'th Legion, Conqueror of Ala Mhigo, Favourite of the late Emperor Solus... had been played for a complete and utter fool.

This all happened cos I wanted to pose people watching in a tree…. But there was like, no people at all? Not even a little bit? So I gathered as many people as I could find publicly available and then kinda, Scrimbled them around as little as possible because 25 actors is a LOT of. It’s a lot of everything. Don’t do that.

Minfilia! Optionally also F'lhaminn!

Oh, how Ariane loved Minfilia. She was the first real friend Ariane had made since the Calamity, also also Ariane developed a massive unrequited crush on her very early. I mean, she assumed it was unrequited, but she never found the courage to confess her feelings... so we'll never know, will we. She's never quite forgiven herself for living Minfilia behind in the watercourse, even knowing it was truly Hydaelyn's will... a part of her will always wonder what would have happened had she just put her foot down and said, "No, I won't leave you."

F'lhaminn asking how she could have lost Minfilia in the aftermath... well, Ariane understands, but it certainly didn't help, and that shame at failing to protect her friend lingers whenever she's in F'lhaminn's presence, and for a long time she's not sure if F'lhaminn's really forgiven her. (She may well have, this is just something that still haunts Ariane.) This is somewhat mitigated by learning about F'lhaminn's role in the death of Minfilia's father, and also by helping her solve the mystery of Niellefresne's body. It's difficult telling F'lhaminn what happened in the First, but it's also the beginning of both of them accepting Minfilia's loss and starting to heal from it. I'm not sure they'll ever be close, but by this point I don't think either of them harbor ill feelings toward one another.

Minfilia tied into a lot of Ariane's complicated feelings about Hydaelyn, and her feelings that the price of being her chosen was apparently to have everyone she loved taken from her over and over again. She started to make peace with that after Minfilia goes to the First, as she begins to understand it was her choice to accept Hydaelyn's call. Seeing her one last time in the First gives Ariane some closure. The romantic feelings have mostly faded by then; she just misses her friend, and wishes it could have been different, but she can let her go to a well-deserved rest.

i'm going to have to pick up PCT on her eventually, and i try to avoid spoilers for job quests before doing them myself, but i so hope there are gonna be opportunities to make it funny.

✧˖°. THEN AND NOW EDITION FT. Sarrai, Azuma & Koret!

Sarrai is the only character I've done any edits with post DT update (don't look at me, I'm only just getting the bug back), but I wanted to show which OC's went through, in my opinion, the most dramatic changes!

The Sarrai on the right was a very early concept where I tried to mash her and Aryele together without much success (call it the WoW trauma, idk). She's had a lot of fantasias to get where she is and I'm ultimately happy with her look now.

Azuma was my first character to finish a MSQ! (The ARR MSQ, to be precise) I used to play her off and on when I was still mainlining WoW, but ultimately adopted her as my main her until halfway through Stormblood when I settled on Ashe and never looked back. I don't want to talk about how long it took me to settle on a name for 'lore compliance'.

Anyway, her look ended up changed because I had the idea to make a sunset themed au ra and I loved her so much I deleted that au ra and slapped a fantasia on her. I met @riftdancing not long after that, we became best friends, and I never looked back.

Kor... SDFKGJDFSHKJDGH. I can't look at her as a Midlander anymore; I'm literally like 'who tf are you girlie???' She looks WAY too dainty in comparison to her highlander self now, but I was still trying to work out the kinks of her story from where she was left in WoW, so it took me a bit to kind of settle on her having a highlander body in game but being multiracial (highlander/midlander) in lore.

Also a good reminder that gposing is a skill that gets honed with time because... look at 'em. SDFKJGHSDFJK

(I considered doing something with a Reaper glam bc Na'el's RPR lore is that, instead of forming a pact with a voidsent, she develops a wolf-like summon named Shuck that bears the remnant aether and the emanated wills and spirits of her fallen comrades and friends. In other words, her RPR familiar is the chimera ghost of her lost loved ones. However, this pose was just too dope.)
