From tomorrow, I will have paid off all my current student debt!
I dropped out of uni after repeating my 2nd year *three times* and ignored my HECKS/HELP debt for years. At the start of this financial year I had to make my first compulsory payment due to my annual income amount and to my horror it was at over AU$27000 (which was like half of when I made that year). And the minimum compulsory payment was barely more than the interest rate that debt was racking up each year. So I dumped almost all of my emergency fund in it immediately (not the wisest decision) and budgeted HARD into December. Then in January this year, I took the remaining balance and worked out how much I would have to pay weekly to pay off the remained before June 2024.
I’ve had to cut back on my fun money and my savings, handmade all my Christmas gifts for the 11 people I spent it with, and cancelled my steaming services. I’m so proud of myself for making this happen. Now I can work on building up a beefy emergency fund again and think about my future career (and maybe even some education I plan on actually finishing lol).

Week #1, Month of Frigging White Cold
So, I'm writing this diary because I want to read it in the future and say, 'Look at all the things I surpassed till now.' This story starts with a question. Do you know who the luckiest and luckless person is in this world? Yep! Me! Lucy Austin. I received a phone call, a long-distance family member who I didn't (and still don't) recall had passed away, and I was his only living heir. Crazy, don't you think so? I should have suspected something… I paid the lawyer a lot of money to get the inheritance (taxes and more), but I still got 8.000 left to pay. I'm working on it, it's a lot of money, but I arrived at my new home with nothing except my clothes. Oh wait, did I say 'my new home'? Let me rephrase it. The lot I have inherited is big. It's huge, takes up the entire view of the cliff, and… it's empty. Really empty. Nothing is built there, neither a house nor four filthy walls. It's a big, gigantic, empty space. Except for a few trees. And being on the top of the cliff and being the Month of Frigging White Cold, it's an extremely cold place. There were two blizzards this week diary, two FUCKING blizzards. Luckily, I'm a resourceful woman who's not afraid of working hard. There's a big beach down the road, so I'm going to the shore once a day to check if the sea has brought something. Then, I sell it. I've been selling a lot of fossils to the local museum, actually.
Tumblr media
Also, I'm doing I'm also doing some odd jobs, from cleaning up trash on the beach to being a cocktail shaker at a party. Little by little, I'm making some money, and I've been able to put up four walls in this huge lot.
I've made it start to look like a lot. Twice a week, I take the bus to Evergreen Harbor to recycle the garbage and rummaging through the bins (which I am not very proud of).
Tumblr media
It's something that ashamed me, but you know? I have found quite a bit of furniture that I have been able to repair for use at home. At the moment: a bed, a sink, and a toilet. So I only paid for the lights and the kitchen. In a way… I'm saving money, aren't I?
Tumblr media
This Saturday I went to the Henford-on-Bagley fair. I took the opportunity to sell the cat grass that grows along the beach and buy some seeds. Between the profits from the beach and that, I've bought a couple of plots of land, a bee hive, and… Drum roll (I'm so excited)… A kit to make my own candles.
Tumblr media
The beginning of my career as a maker. And with my own bee wax. Today I have already put some for sale on Plopsy, hope to sell them soon.
I'm going to be optimistic. I am achiving things. Maybe, next week can I get a shower… Or a bathtub? I will need to shower before paying the rest of the loan.

Note
how are you doing outside of this situation? i hope life is treating you well!
Aside from the extreme stress of all of this, I'm doing alright! ❤️ I'm currently half way through my internship to finish up getting my Business degree this December, and I may have a management opportunity ahead of me this upcoming year, which is awesome. Work is also going well, and I've also been able to save a decent chunk of change for my financial goals, particularly getting my new acoustic/electric guitar (I dont have a combo one like that yet and been needing one for awhile), my new poi fans, and a down payment on a home loan. I'm definitely not rich but I'm starting to get to the point that I'm not broke, can actually afford things I want and not just what I need, and I can actually build a savings for the first time in my life. I've also been making a lot of art on the DL. I stopped posting about it after chelsey and brandi bullied me for it lol. I like to keep it more private on social media now. I think I would rather keep it lowkey and surprise people with it at events anyways. I'm planning on vending my art soon! Selling my used clothes has been going well too. It's been a nice side income. Oh and I get to see one of my top 5 favorite EDM artists a second time in the same year in a couple weeks! Super excited for that. 😁
Another small thing I'm excited about is my Halloween costumes. I'm going to be one of my top 10 favorite pokemon Dragonair for the 31st and then, I'm doing a Deidara and Death the Kid gender bender next weekend for a few shows, too. My dragonair stuff all came in but I don't know if my stuff for the other two are going to come in on time though. 😭 I'm more excited to cosplay pokemon though. I've been thinking about it and I think it would be cool to just start cosplayong human versions of pokemon in general. There's more freedom/creativity with what you can do with pokemon costumes and I think I'll really enjoy cosplaying my favorites over time. Might make an Instagram just for cosplaying pokemon? 🤔
My boyfriend and I are also in the midst of planning a bigger festival. I'm definitely going to keep hosting Dubbed n' Confuzed over time, but we are planning and splitting the costs of a multigenre outdoor fest for next summer and I'm really excited for that! We might be able to do Dubbed n' Confuzed, too, but it depends on how things go woth our careers/paying off debt and if we can save up our down payment goal for a house to buy next year and still be able to afford more than one outdoor event. We might be able to pull it off, but its up in the air right now.
I'm also very happy for him because he is getting enough money next year (under personal/negative circumstances that I can't really discuss mind you) to afford to get the rest of the equipment he needs to really pop off with his production business. His involvement with local promoting has been going awesome, too. Even better is that he has some amazing performance opportunities at a couple big festivals next year. He started producing his own music, and he's doing great with it as well. I'm really proud of him and we have one hell of a summer ahead of us. One of the festivals he is likely performing at is one I've been wanting to check out for a long time, too! Still sending it to dancefest next year on top of that since we got the early bird tickets on discount. It's a great festival if you're into EDM btw, 10/10 and highly recommend it if you like smaller festivals with fully EDM line-ups.
In general, both of our careers are advancing and we're both about to pay off our debt and save a decent amount of money for a house together, gonna save money/cash in my gold inheritance for my half on a down payment and then he's going to match whatever I can save. We will be able to get a better house than we originally thought since we are getting increases in our income by next year and I'm happy about that. Can't wait to officially be a home owner and with the man I love. Hoping we can get a fixer-upper in the country side with a little land, fingers crossed.
I think 2025 is going to be a good year, lots of weight will lift off both our shoulders financially, we're getting serious about building our lives together, and lots of fun / good things coming for both of us in general.
Thank you for asking me this tbh. I've felt pretty suffocated by this other situation and haven't really been thinking about the positive stuff much until I was asked.

Cost-Effective
Compared to buying a house, purchasing an open plot is often more cost-effective. You can take your time to save up and build your home gradually, avoiding the financial strain of a hefty home loan. Plus, no one can argue with the fact that buying land is one of the most stable investments one can make.
Types of Plots Available
Residential Plots
Residential plots in Shadnagar are perfect for those looking to build a home. These plots are usually located in well-planned layouts with access to essential amenities like water, electricity, and sewage systems. Things to Consider Before Buying a Plot
Legal Aspects
Before you get carried away with dreams of your new property, make sure all legal aspects are covered. Verify the land title, ensure there are no legal disputes, and check if the plot has all necessary approvals from local authorities. Trust me, you don’t want any surprises later.
Location and Surroundings
The plot’s location within Shadnagar is crucial. Proximity to schools, hospitals, shopping centers, and public transport can make a big difference in your daily life. Take a stroll around the neighborhood and see if it feels right. If you bump into a friendly neighbor who offers you tea, it’s probably a good sign!
Budget
Let’s face it, even the most beautiful plot won’t do you much good if it’s way out of your budget. Have a clear idea of how much you can afford and stick to it. Remember, it’s not just about buying the land; you’ll need funds to develop it too.
Making the Purchase: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Research
Start by doing thorough research on the available plots in Shadnagar. Online real estate portals, local brokers, and word-of-mouth recommendations are good places to begin.
Step 2: Site Visit
Once you’ve shortlisted a few plots, it’s time for a site visit. This is your chance to see the plot in person, get a feel for the area, and check out the surroundings. Bring along a friend or family member for a second opinion.
Step 3: Verify Documents
Ask the seller for all necessary documents, including the land title, sale deed, and any relevant approvals. It’s also wise to get a legal expert to verify these documents.
Step 4: Negotiate
Don’t shy away from negotiating the price. Remember, every penny saved here can be used for building your dream home. Be polite but firm in your negotiations.
Step 5: Finalize the Deal
Once you’re satisfied with everything, it’s time to finalize the deal. Ensure all paperwork is in order, make the payment, and get the sale deed registered in your name. Congratulations, you’re now a proud landowner in Shadnagar!

Is It Better To Rent Than Buy a Home Right Now?
Is It Better To Rent Than Buy a Home Right Now?
You may have seen reports in the news recently saying it’s more affordable to rent right now than it is to buy a home. And while that may be true in some markets if you just look at typical monthly payments, there’s one thing that the numbers aren’t factoring in: and that’s home equity. Here’s a look at how big of an impact equity can have and why it’s worth considering as you make your decision.
What the Headlines Are Based on
The graph below uses national data on the median rental payment from Realtor.com and median mortgage payment from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) to compare the two options. As the graph shows, especially if you’re not looking for a lot of space, it can be more affordable on a monthly basis to rent:
But if you’re looking for something with 2 bedrooms, the gap between the median rent and the median mortgage payment starts to shrink to a difference that may be more doable. The median monthly mortgage payment is $2,040. The median monthly rent for 2 bedrooms is $1,889. That’s a difference of about $151 a month. But here’s what happens when you factor in equity too.
How Equity Changes the Game
If you rent, your monthly rental payments only go toward covering your housing costs and your landlord’s expenses. So other than saving a bit more per month and maybe getting your rental deposit back when you move, the money you spent on housing each month is gone – forever.
When you buy, your monthly mortgage payment pays for your shelter, but it also acts as an investment. That investment grows in the form of equity as you make your mortgage payment each month and chip away at what you owe on your home loan. Your equity gets an extra boost as home values climb – which they typically do.
To give you a clearer idea of how equity can really stack up fast, here’s some data for you. Each quarter, Fannie Mae and Pulsenomics publish the results of the Home Price Expectations Survey (HPES). It asks more than 100 economists, real estate professionals, and investment and market strategists what they think will happen with home prices. In the latest release, those experts say home prices are going to keep going up over the next five years.
Here's an example of how equity builds based on the projections from the HPES (see graph below):
Imagine you purchased a home for $400,000 at the start of this year. Chances are, since you bought, you plan to stay put for a while. Based on the HPES projections, if you live there for 5 years, you could end up gaining over $83,000 in household wealth as your home grows in value.
Here’s how that stacks up compared to renting, using the overall median rent from above:
While you may save a bit on your monthly payments if you rent right now, you’ll also miss out on gaining equity.
So, what’s the big takeaway? Whether it makes more sense to rent or buy is going to vary based on your personal finances. It’s not a good idea to buy if the numbers truly don’t work for you. But, if you’re ready and able, adding equity as the final puzzle piece may be enough to help you realize buying is a better move in the long run.
Bottom Line
When it comes down to it, buying a home gives you a benefit renting just can’t provide – and that’s the chance to gain equity. If you want to take advantage of long-term home price appreciation, let’s go over your options.

Tips for Finding the Perfect House for Your Budget
Tumblr media
When shopping for a home, you want to be sure it suits your family. One thing that many people demand in a house is maximum storage capacity. However, the right house size isn’t necessarily about the amount of space you have. It is also about how you use your home and your plans. Read on for our tips on finding the perfect house for your budget. Don’t Buy Based on Emotions When shopping for a home, getting swept up in the excitement of looking at properties and going to open houses can be easy. But it’s important to remember that this is a significant financial decision. Before you start house hunting, you must set a budget and stick to it. First, determine your housing budget using a mortgage calculator to determine how much you can afford in terms of monthly payments (also known as “PITI”—principal, interest, taxes, and insurance). Next, decide what type of home is right for you based on your lifestyle. For example, if you don’t like yard work, consider living in a condo or townhouse instead of a single-family property. Finally, consider your family’s future needs regarding the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. It’s also essential to think about how secure your income is and factor in possible changes that may occur shortly, such as if one spouse plans on becoming a stay-at-home parent or if you plan on switching careers. This will help you create a savings strategy and help you avoid buying a home over your budget. The last thing you want is to be saddled with debt that could take years to pay off. Don’t Buy the Biggest House on the Block The home-buying process for a house for sale in Iowa Colony, TX, can be exciting and sometimes emotional. While visiting open houses and finding your dream home is a great feeling, it’s important to remember that you will need to make compromises to ensure that you end up with a house that works for your budget. Once you’ve figured out how much you can afford to spend on a house, you’ll need to figure out how many months it will take you to save enough money for a down payment. If you don’t have a lot of savings, consider contacting family and friends to see if they can help you with a down payment. As long as the amount is a gift and not a loan, this can be a great way to get into your first home without worrying about paying back the funds in the future. Another mistake you should avoid is choosing a house that is too big for your budget. While a spacious house may look fantastic on paper, it will likely cause you to spend more money on utilities and maintenance than you would with a smaller home. Additionally, large homes attract much interest from other buyers, resulting in bidding wars and a higher purchase price than you’d be comfortable with. Don’t Wait for the Perfect Time Homebuying is exciting, but being practical regarding your finances is also important. That means not making emotional decisions that could lead to costly mistakes. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is waiting for the perfect time to buy a house. The housing market constantly changes, and prices will not likely stay the same forever. Depending on the current state of the market, you may end up overpaying for a house if you wait too long. Another mistake to avoid is focusing too much on the features of a house. Getting caught up in dreaming about a spacious kitchen, luxurious bathtub, or beautiful yard is easy. But if those things aren’t important to you, it’s not worth spending your entire budget on a house just because of the fancy amenities. If you’re set on buying a big house, consider purchasing under-construction homes instead of moving into an existing property. These homes are usually more affordable than move-in-ready ones, and you’ll have the flexibility to change certain features after you’ve settled in. For example, if you’re looking for an open floor plan, but the home you want has a closed kitchen, consider switching it out later. You can always change the layout of a home after you’ve moved in, so don’t let minor flaws derail your plan. Don’t Overpay A home buyer will run into one of two experiences when house hunting. They will see homes they know for logical or rational reasons that they wouldn’t want to live in, or they will see homes they love at first sight. The latter is a problem because they will likely become emotionally involved and prone to paying more than they should. The key to avoiding overpaying is to remain as objective as possible throughout the entire process. It’s essential to evaluate the property and comparable sales and how much similar properties in the neighbourhood have recently sold for. It’s also a good idea to consult with your real estate agent before making an offer on a property and always ask them for advice on pricing. Whether shopping in person or online, it’s easy to get caught up in the fantasy of your future life in a new home. But it’s vital to remember that the home you buy isn’t just a place to sleep and cook meals; it’s also an investment. The perfect house comprises several things, from necessities (like enough bedrooms and a short commute) to nice-to-haves (like a jetted tub). Remembering this as you search for your dream home will help you decide which homes are worth the price. Read the full article

What You Need To Know About Buying Property: Your Ultimate Guide
Are you in the market for a new property? Whether it's your first home or an investment property, navigating the real estate world can be overwhelming.
With so many factors to consider and decisions to make, it’s important that you have a comprehensive guide to help you through the process.
That's where we come in – this ultimate guide will provide you with everything what you need to know about buying property.
From researching neighborhoods to securing financing, we'll cover all of the essential steps involved in purchasing real estate.
So grab a cup of coffee and get ready to become a confident buyer!
Setting Your Budget And Goals
Before diving into the exciting world of property buying, it's crucial to start by setting your budget and goals.
Understanding mortgages is a fundamental piece of this puzzle. Do you have enough savings to buy outright, or will you need to take out a mortgage? If so, what type of mortgage best suits your financial situation?
Evaluating property value is also key in determining how much house you can afford or if certain properties are worth the investment. Take into consideration factors such as location, size, amenities, and potential future resale value.
Once you've established your budget and priorities regarding property value, it's time to move onto researching neighborhoods and properties that align with your desires.
Tumblr media
Researching Neighborhoods And Properties
Before making an offer on a property, it's crucial to research the neighborhood and evaluate the property thoroughly.
Conducting a crime rates analysis can give you insight into how safe the area is. Remember that safety is critical when choosing where to live since no one wants to feel unsafe in their own home or community.
Additionally, evaluating the school district is essential for families with children as this determines the quality of education your child will receive. A good school district could also impact your property value positively in case you decide to sell later down the line.
Take note of other factors too such as proximity to public transport, grocery stores, hospitals, and parks.
Now that you have researched neighborhoods and properties, it's time to secure financing and pre-approval before making any offers.
Securing Financing And Pre-Approval
Are you ready to take the next step and secure financing for your dream property?
It's a big decision, but with the right information, you can make it happen.
Different types of loans are available to meet different needs, so it's important to do your research before choosing one.
Lenders will also look at your credit score when determining whether or not to approve you for a loan.
If yours is on the lower end, don't worry - there are still options available.
With pre-approval in hand, you'll have a better idea of what price range to shop within, giving you more confidence as you move forward towards making an offer and closing the deal.
Making An Offer And Closing The Deal
When it comes to making an offer and closing the deal on a property, there are several things you need to consider.
First and foremost, negotiation tactics will play a key role in securing the best possible price for your dream home. It's important to do your research on comparable properties in the area, as well as any potential issues with the property that could give you leverage in negotiations.
In addition to negotiating the price, there are also legal considerations that must be taken into account. This includes ensuring that all necessary paperwork is completed correctly and verifying that there are no liens or other legal issues associated with the property.
It may be beneficial to work with a real estate attorney during this process to ensure everything is handled properly.
Overall, navigating the process of making an offer and closing a deal can be complex and overwhelming. However, with careful planning and attention to detail, you can successfully secure your dream home at a fair price while protecting yourself legally.
As you move forward with your purchase, it's important not only to focus on these initial steps but also keep in mind post-purchase considerations and maintenance requirements for your new property.
Post-Purchase Considerations And Maintenance
Now that you've successfully closed the deal on your new property, it's time to consider what comes next. Post-purchase considerations and maintenance are crucial parts of owning a property, so it's important to be prepared for them.
One thing to keep in mind is property insurance - make sure you have adequate coverage before any unexpected incidents occur.
Additionally, maintaining your property can be done either through DIY methods or by hiring professionals. While DIY may save you some costs, it's important to ensure that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to properly maintain your home without causing further damage. On the other hand, if professional help is needed, don't hesitate to seek out reputable companies and individuals who can provide quality service.
Remember, taking care of your property not only ensures its longevity but also adds value should you ever decide to sell in the future. So take pride in your investment and stay proactive in keeping it well-maintained.
Conclusion
In conclusion, buying property can be an exciting yet intimidating process. However, by following the steps outlined in this ultimate guide, you'll be well on your way to finding and securing your dream home.
Remember to always set a realistic budget and goals for yourself, research neighborhoods and properties thoroughly, secure financing and pre-approval from lenders, make confident offers, and prepare for post-purchase considerations such as maintenance.
With patience and persistence, you will find the perfect property that meets all of your needs and desires.
Happy house hunting!

To be honest, I just wanted to ramble some more and let my brainworms take over. This is sorta late but Happy Valentine’s everyone! I was gonna post this earlier but this honestly took me a long time to write so I moved it to today.
Once again, this is 90% crack 10% content. Seriously, as much as I love writing this non-serious fics. Why do you people like this?

Diluc
What? Diluc has a roommate? Did you blackmail him in living with you? Is that even possible? Did you throw yourself in front of his car because you needed someone to pay for your student loans and the easiest way was to file a lawsuit? In this economy no one would blame you. Diluc seems like such the self-isolated character that would murder his roommate in cold blood but in reality, he act’s detached from the world because he forgot how to socialize and he’s desperately trying to cover it up without choking. That or he’s trying to learn how to astral project. If he could drink away the pain he would but instead he buys 20 packs of grape Kool-Aid and injects it into his veins.
Does not and will not ever have a normal sleeping schedule. You’ll wake up to him working, come back home to him working, and will sleep to him still working. His daily dose of Vitamin D is from the brightness of his screen rather than the sun and he’s filter feeding at this point. It’s concerning. He’s going to crumble and he’s bringing the world down with him. Through the power of tax evasion. But as soon as he needs to walk out into society, he pulls movie magic and looks like perfection. It’s both physically and mentally disgusting.
He’s actually is a really nice roommate to have just so long as you give him space. Great cook and knows to clean up after himself. Though he does have crash and burn days where’s he’s completely out of commission. You could set the entire apartment on fire and he would sleep through it. The entire two weeks are dedicated to zombie eye marathons and then he’ll suddenly collapse and sleep for 46 hours straight. When he wakes up from his hibernation he’s the most groggy and nonsensical person. His life blood is coffee because you keep hiding the 5 hour energy away from him because, you know, life is enjoyable and those cancer bottles will actually kill him.
“University sucks our money out of our bodies faster than our will to live.”

Beidou [Happy Birthday Queen 💕]
Despite her appearance, she’s actually really strong and it scares the piss out of you when you’re doing something or scrolling through your phone mindlessly and you suddenly get your spine re-arranged when she slaps you on the back to ask what you’re doing. Likewise, when she hoists you up and throws you over her shoulder so you come with her on her 3am convivence store raids for alcohol. It’s either you change now or else we’re walking out of the apartment in your t-shirt and no pants self. She can and will carry you under her arm that way. It’s both incredibly attractive and horrifying at the same time.
She’s really friendly and a great talker if you’re alright with her “I must hold you in my arms, fresh prince of bel air style”. It doesn’t matter if you’re taller than her, she’s doing it. She does however, get in a bit of trouble from her rowdiness and you often get noise complaints but Beidou just passes them off to Ningguang and everything is fixed. She has ovaries of steel when neighbors rather confront her personally and she’s ready to 1v1 in the parking lot. You’re trying to desperately hold onto her shirt to stop her from pile driving your neighbors for the third time this week but she’s too strong.
She’s constant party until we die attitude and suffers the hangover in the morning. It’s actually really funny to catch her in her hangover moods because whatever filter Beidou had, which is none, is gone. She really takes “cursing like a sailor” or the next level and the amount of creativity she comes up with is actually impressive. She can be a bit messy but she’s really likeable and always down to go anywhere with you as long as you’ll do the same. It’s a very ride together, we die together situation. You’re my best friend, you’re dying with me. I’ll see you in hell.
“Imma T pose over my dad and then crash the car into the parking garage.”
Tumblr media
Kaeya
Kaeya on the surface seems like such a chill roommate. And he is for the most part. But he’s such an ass. Your things are his things, no questions asked. If you just bought a really nice sweater or you had leftover food, that’s his now. He’s innocent until proven guilty even if he’s literally holding your lunch. The pure amount of bullshit he can spit out to convince you that no, he did not pull the fire alarm because he wanted an excuse for not going to work, puts him on Shakespeare level. He’s also very pretty, way too pretty, sir can you share some of your genes?
But aside from that, he’s actually super dependable. You forgot something at home? Sure, he has nothing better to do so he can bring them for you. We’re missing eggs? No problem, he’s just by the store. You’re 95% sure that he just wants to be cheeky and make you thank him for 20 minutes before he actually hands you what you asked for. It’s better for you if you never tell him anything you’re afraid of because Kaeya has no social cues, or more like he throws them out the window, and he’s probably a psychopath.
He’s incredibly private of his room and things despite his attitude towards yours. You’re convinced he either has a secret lab or that’s where he’s storing the bodies. I was the good guy but due to unfortunate circumstances, I need to stab a bitch. But he’s a really good serious talker for those 3am, because everything happens at 3am, talks about life and the meaning of the universe. It absolutely wrecks your sleep schedule but some of the things you talk about are the most crackhead things like what’s the lowest amount of money someone would have to pay you to walk outside without clothes? It’s a legitimate question.
“Never before have I been so offended with something I 100% agree with.”
Tumblr media
Jean
Okay, what world did you save in a past life to live with his absolutely wonderful woman? Mother Teresa take a load off, take a seat. You have nothing to worry about. She’ll bring home little treats back home and it’s the most wholesome thing ever?? Is this what love and affection feels like? We’ve been starved for so long. She says it’s not a big deal and anyone would do it BUT THE MOMENT SOMEONE BUYS FOOD FOR YOU. IT’S A MAGICAL MOMENT. They are forever stuck in your will until proven otherwise. An absolute ray of sunshine that must be protected.
She does get super busy so you don’t often see each other or get to hang out as much. She’s a bit of a workaholic but a lot more easier to talk her into taking a break. She’s also a pretty decent cook but she prefers baking and jesus christ, girl can you calm down? Be still my beating heart, I’ve been smitten. Has mother hen vibes that you’re not sure if she’s your roommate or if she adopted you into her family. It’s time to start a petition for the Jean protection squad. Given the opportunity, I would aggressively hold your hand.
She’s always open to whatever you want to do. Any recommendations or things that you like she will try out at least once despite her busy schedule. She’s lowkey lonely because work consumes her so any time you want to hang out or do something together, she jumps on it like she’s feral. She get’s a bit shy to ask if she can join in on your plans because she doesn’t want to bother you or intrude no matter how many times you tell her that’s okay, she still get’s a bit iffy about it. Please save this girl before she trips. In your arms. Platonically. Just kidding haha. Unless?
“I can’t wait to see you happy and not hating everyone again haha.”
Tumblr media
Childe
First impressions of Childe were great, until he opened his mouth and you realized how much of a two brain cell child(e) he was. He has two braincells because they constantly have to 1v1 in his brain. He’s lived with a lot of siblings so he has no social awareness or concept of privacy that you’re lucky if you come home and he’s half-dressed. It doesn’t matter if you’re 2 weeks older than him, he’s going to call you 82 years old and why your bones aren’t being fossilized at this point. He’s such a little shit, this fucker licks the yogurt lid peel.
He get’s really restless when he’s stuck under house arrest, because apparently 1v1ing in the parking lot of a Wendy’s is illegal for some reason, so he makes dying whale noises until he get’s to go outside again. But he’s actually a really wholesome guy, probably because of his younger siblings, that he’ll sometimes get you something because you seemed down and it’s such whiplash? Who is this man and where did he come from? You’re starting to have a change of heart before he tells you that he got banned from the library for accidently punching the school’s computer. How you “accidently” punch something you have no idea but Childe always comes home with some sort of injury. Maybe he’s just incredibly clumsy. For your sanity, you’re going to go with that.
He’s actually so uncultured that it’s crippling. You can’t blame him too much considering his upbringing and it’s great that he’s so interested in learning new things but...child no...It makes you want to take your spine out of your ass and rip it like a Beyblade. Watching him take chopsticks and stab his food like it’s marshmallows makes you want to fall into a blackhole and let the chair consume you.
“I, too, fantasize about beating the living shit out of people.”

Is this another tag yourself game cause I resonate with Diluc. I’m crying in insomnia. As much as I enjoy writing these fics I absolutely hate tagging them. I remember I used to have a tag anon but that was back when I wrote for bnha.
Valentine’s Day was fun tho. I had a drinking game with friends as we played league then ended it off with a movie night.

_________
“Toast! Toast!” you shouted as you ran down a street. “Toast boy!”
“Uh, you okay?” said a guy walking on the other side of the street. He was raising an eyebrow and you shook your head.
“Toast is a dog,” you said.
“Oh, gotcha. I thought you were nuts for a minute,” he chuckled.
“You haven’t seen a german shepard around have you?” you asked.
“I saw one run down the block a few minutes ago,” he said. You looked the direction he pointed and you started sprinting. “Hey!”
“Sorry! Can’t talk!” you shouted back. You ran down the block and across the street over to the park. You ran over to the basketball court and saw Toast there next to Tessa. She was sat up and holding onto his vest when you jogged over to her. “Tess. Are you okay? Did you have a seizure?”
“No,” she said with a laugh. She was holding her ankle and you saw the swelling. “I think I broke it playing. My phone’s over in my bag. I told Toast to get it but I guess he ran home and got you instead.”
“He barged in through the doggy door, I thought he was just nuts at first,” you said. You heard footsteps behind you and the man from the street was there panting.
“You found your dog,” he said as he caught his breath.
“Yeah,” you said, the man wincing when he saw Tessa’s ankle. “We’re all set.”
“She needs a doctor,” he said.
“Tessa, you okay here while I run home to get my car?” you asked.
“Yeah I’m fine,” she said. “Toast’ll stay.”
“I can carry her,” said the man. You both stared at him and he shrugged. “Save you a trip.”
“Are you some kind of weirdo?” you asked.
“Says the woman running through the neighborhood shouting Toast,” he smiled back.
“Alright. Tess if you’re cool with it…” you said, the man nodding.
“Dean Winchester.”
“Dean will carry you back to the house and I’ll drive you to urgent care,” you said. “If you do try anything though Dean, Toast will rip your face and junk off, just to be clear.”
“Got the message,” he said. Tessa climbed on his back and he was careful of her ankle while you grabbed her bag. You walked with Toast by Dean’s side back the few blocks towards home. “I think it’s just a sprain actually. I wouldn’t worry too much.”
“You play basketball?” you asked.
“No. I’m a doctor is all. First glance it doesn’t look too bad.”
“Are you single? Y/N’s single,” she said.
“You’re a little shit, Tessa,” you said. Dean chuckled and Toast bumped his leg. “He wants you to get on the sidewalk.”
“Will do,” he said, Toast giving some space once he’d stepped up off the road. “He’s very intelligent.”
“We’ve only had Toast two years but he’s been very good with us,” you said. “He’s Tessa’s. I just feed him and pick up his poop.”
“I have school, loser.”
“I have work, loser,” you said.
“You guys must be sisters,” he said. “I’m a big brother. I would know.”
“If your younger brother is single and half as good looking-”
“Keep it in your pants, Tess,” you said.
“I like you two,” he chuckled. “Sorry Tessa but he’s probably a little too old for you.”
“They always are,” she sighed.
“You’re seventeen. You’re fine,” you said. “Besides college has way more attractive guys and stuff.”
“Oh yeah, Elmdale community college. Known for it’s hotties,” she mumbled.
“Elmdale University has some good choices,” you said.
“I thought it was too expensive,” she said.
“Well I was gonna tell you this at dinner but I applied for a different job awhile ago. I heard back this morning. I accepted. It’s double what I was making before.”
“Really?”
“Yes. With your grades you can get a half-ride and I figure between inheritance and my new salary, you can do your four year out of the gate without loans,” you said.
“Thanks, Y/N,” she said quietly. “Really.”
“You still need your part-time job if you want to get stuff for yourself though. I’m sorry. I can’t make it work if-”
“S’okay,” she said. “I can’t believe I can go to the university.”
“I called up the school earlier and talked to your guidance counselor. We gotta work on your application but we can make it work,” you said.
“Can I get a car? I know I can’t afford room and board but maybe I can get something used so you don’t have to drive me all the time?” she asked.
“Tessa…” you sighed. You knew you couldn’t afford insurance on two cars at the moment and everything else and she wouldn’t make enough part time to cover all the car expenses herself. “I-”
“I can pick up more shifts,” she said.
“Tessa, I want you to enjoy college. I sure did. I’ll give you rides whenever you want. I’ll drop you off in the morning and pick you up at night. That would work, right?”
“Yeah,” she said. “I don’t even care about my ankle. I can get my art degree!” she said.
“Tessa.”
“I’m joking,” she laughed. “Art minor?”
“You can minor in whatever you like but please for my sanity major in something you can get a job in?” you asked.
“Yeah, yeah,” she said. You rounded a corner and started to walk up a driveway, Dean setting Tessa down in the passenger seat of your car. You opened the back and Toast jumped in, Dean smiling when you shut both the doors.
“Thanks,” you said. “For helping us out.”
“Sounds like you two know how to solve problems on your own,” he said. “Happy to help. Here.”
He dug in his back pocket and pulled out a card.
“If you ever need a doctor, I’m two blocks over,” he said. “Or just to talk.”
“Thanks,” you said. “I’ll see you around, Dean.”
It was around nine when you were sitting on the front porch with a glass of whiskey in your hand. You drank slowly, eyes catching a man in a baseball cap and reflective shirt jogging by.
“Do you always run at night?” you called, Dean stopping at your front walkway. “Cause I never see you run at night and I sit out here a lot.”
“Whew well let’s stop that charade cause running is so not my thing,” he said. He breathed hard for a moment as he walked up the steps. You nodded to the other chair and poured him a glass, Dean drinking it down. “Your sister okay?”
“Yeah. Just a sprain,” you said. “Still gotta pay the deductible for the x-ray though.”
“How old are you?”
“How old are you?” you asked.
“Thirty one,” he said.
“Twenty eight.”
“Where are your folks?” he asked.
“They and Tessa were in an accident two years ago. It’s just us two now.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. I’m slowly getting used to be a guardian,” you said.
“I raised my little brother. My parents are still around but they fought a lot. I get becoming the parent when you’re not ready.”
“Do you ever get to just be a sibling again?” you asked.
“Yes. But they have to grow up first and you got a few more years ahead of you before it happens,” he said.
“I figured.”
“What does she have? Toast is a service dog I saw.”
“She gets seizures sometimes. It’s from the accident. She hasn’t had one in seven months. Fingers crossed we got her on the right mix of meds finally,” you said.
“So who takes care of you?”
“My buddy Jack Daniels. Sometimes I hang out Jim Bean too.”
“I’m partial to Johnny Walker,” smiled Dean.
“Very nice. I don’t drink much. Too tired most of the time,” you said.
“So nobody takes care of you then.”
“Who takes care of you?”
“Good point,” he said. “But I didn’t have it this rough.”
“We’re getting by. We always do.”
“I have no doubt that you can,” he said. “Take care of yourself every once in a while is all.”
“When she’s done with school I will.”
“She’s got five years left. You won’t last that long,” he said.
“Watch me.”
“Who worked on your sister at the urgent care tonight?”
“Dr. Novak. Why?”
“Cas is a good friend. I’ll see about getting that x-ray test off the bill,” he said as he stood up.
“Dean, you don’t have to do that.”
“It’s no trouble,” he said, heading down the steps. “You want me to leave you alone from now on?”
“...No.”
“You want to go on a date tomorrow?”
“Okay,” you said.
“I’ll pick you up at noon? I’m buying. Nothing too fancy,” he said.
“Okay,” you said. He smiled and nodded, spinning around and sliding right off the last two steps to his bottom. You rushed down them and he groaned, shaking his head. “Are you okay?”
“Yup,” he said, grunting as he stood. “Oh my ass hurts.”
“That’s what she said,” you said, Dean laughing.
“I definitely like you,” he said as you helped him take a few steps. “I’m alright. I’ll swing by tomorrow then.”
“Bye Dean,” you said.
“Bye Dean!” called Tessa from her bedroom window upstairs.
“Oh my God, go to bed!” you shouted back.
“It’s nine and I’m not twelve,” she said.
“Goodnight ladies,” chuckled Dean, waving as he headed back down the path. You gathered up the bottle and glasses, bringing them inside and locking up for the night. A few minutes later you were upstairs in Tessa’s room, frowning as she giggled while looking through her phone.
“Oh come on,” she said as she rolled her eyes at you. “He’s cute, he’s a doctor, he’s single and he’s a dork that just fell on his butt in front of you cause he’s so nervous and trying to play it cool. Like what is wrong with him?”
“Nothing. We have a date tomorrow,” you said, leaning against the doorframe.
“We used to talk about guys,” she said.
“I know,” you said. You picked at the wood, Tessa putting her phone down.
“Y/N. You’re not my mom. I know you gotta act like her sometimes but you’re not. Mom and dad would want you to go on dates and stuff. I haven’t seen you do anything fun in years.”
“I barely knew how to be an adult for just me,” you said. “You’re my priority now.”
“I’m not in a hospital bed anymore. My seizures are under control and I got Toast to watch out for me just in case. Dean had a point. You gotta take care of yourself,” she said. “Including me going to community college.”
“Tessa-”
“It’s both our inheritance and you can’t spend all of it on me. I can do two years at community and transfer to the university after.”
“Tess. You don’t have to do that. I did the math and it’ll work out.”
“When’s the last time you bought something for yourself? Seriously when?”
“I bought a new bedspread two weeks ago.”
“You needed one. That doesn’t count. When-”
“Before mom and dad died, Tess. Is that what you want me to say? They made good money but you had medical bills. Do I want a new winter coat? Sure. Do I want to splurge and by myself a nice pair of leggings? Of course. I want things. But I want us to stay in this house. I don’t want us to get shoved in a tiny apartment. I want you to be able to go to college like I did and not worry about this crap. I’m the grown up, not you. I choose how to spend the money.”
“Fine,” she said. She grabbed the crutch by her bed and got up, going to her dresser. She opened her jewelry box and grabbed a wad of cash, holding it out to you. “It’s three hundred. I want you to have it.”
“Tessa, no.”
“I earned it. I get to choose how to spend it,” she said. “You’ve always told me that. Buy a coat and leggings and whatever else you want.”
“Tessa. It’s yours. You were saving up to buy an iphone.”
“I don’t need a fucking phone. I need my sister to stop looking like she cries herself to sleep every night. Just take it,” she said. You shook your head and she shoved the money in your hand. “Y/N, take it.”
“Alright,” you said.
“Good.” She waited a beat before pulling you into a hug. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” you said. “You got plans tomorrow night?”
“I was gonna sleepover Hailey’s house if that’s okay?” she said.
“Yeah. You guys have fun,” you said. “Just be careful on your ankle.”
“Duh,” she said. “Do you want to watch a movie or something?”
“I’m kinda beat. Sunday for sure?” you said.
“Okay. Night,” she said.
“Night, Tess,” you said. You went next door to your room, opening your desk drawer and opening the envelope inside. You counted the money she’d given you and added it to the front. You definitely had enough for her phone now and her birthday was only a few weeks away. You smiled and put it away, writing out a few bills before you gathered up your pajamas and walked down the hall to the bathroom. You kept going though, down to the shut door. You pushed it open, the room cold and dark. You flipped on a light, a coating of dust on everything again.
“Y/N?” said Tessa from the other end of the hall. You turned off the light and shut the door, Tessa by the bathroom when you walked back. “You okay?”
“Yeah. I’m gonna shower quick before bed. Shout if you need something.”
“Yeah. Night.”
Dean POV
“Hey, Sammy,” said Dean after he’d gotten out of the shower and was laying in bed.
“Hey, Dean. What’s up?” asked Sam on the other end of the phone.
“I think I just went full on weirdo on this girl I met today.”
“Well that’s obvious but what’d you do? You didn’t like stalk her or anything.”
“She lives in the neighborhood. I kinda went jogging past her house tonight and she was sat on the front porch.”
“Okay that’s kinda creepy,” said Sam. Dean ran his hand over his face and sighed. “Did you talk to her?”
“Yeah. I don’t think I gave off creeper vibes but she might have just been polite. I don’t know. We’re going out tomorrow,” said Dean. He was quiet as he shut his eyes. “Which sucks cause I really like her too. I hope she doesn’t think I’m weird.”
“Maybe she’ll have pity on you and let it slide. Where’d you meet her? I thought you swore off women after your last hookup went bad,” he said. Dean didn’t speak and ran his hand over his face again. “De I know something happened that night.”
“Sammy I got tired of hooking up. I’m too old for it. I just want a girl to go home to at the end of the day and laugh with. That’s all there is to it,” said Dean.
“Dean I was still living with you at the time. You were off for days. I know-”
“If you’re gonna bring this shit up again-”
“I’m just saying it’s nice to hear you excited about a girl again...and you can tell me anything. Anything, Dean. I’m not a kid anymore.”
“You’re twenty seven. You’re a kid,” said Dean. He rolled over on the bed and lay on his stomach, putting his hands under his chin. “Some things I just don’t tell you about, Sam.”
“Dean, I asked you to stop raising me awhile ago. You’re not my father anymore.”
“I still gotta protect you from stuff,” said Dean with a shrug.
“I get that. But my mind has gone to the worst case scenario on this more than once. Just promise it wasn’t that,” said Sam.
“Sammy, I called to talk about a girl.”
“You want things to work out with her? Then figure out whatever the hell happened in the past so it doesn’t happen again.”
“You don’t understand, said Dean.
“Whatever. Just crack a joke next time you see her,” said Sam. He hung up and Dean looked at his phone, sighing before he jammed his face in the bed. He gripped the sheets tight and felt his heart rate pick up, bile rising up in the back of his throat.
“Stop. It,” he said to himself, forcing himself to sit up. He wiped off his eye and dropped his head to his chest. “It’s just a fucking girl. It’s just a girl, it’s just a date. It’s all it is.”
He saw his phone light up and Sam’s name appear. He swiped and put it on speaker before he faced away from it.
“I’m sorry,” said Sam.
“It’s okay,” said Dean, freezing when he sniffled. He stared at the phone and Sam cleared his throat.
“You alright?” Dean stared at the phone and shook his head. “De, you there?”
“Are you alone?” he asked.
“Yes…” said Sam. “It’s just me.”
“You repeat a word of this to anybody or you laugh or you tease me or-”
“Hey. I’d rather we not have this conversation over the phone. I can be there in an hour.”
“...Fine but you better bring some pie with you.”
“I’ll see you in an hour, Dean.”

( lee hyeri, cis female, muse i ) oh snap! is that SHIN EUNBYUL they work over at high volume where some of the other employees have labeled them as THE AVERAGE JOE. that’s probably because they can be a bit ( optimistic. ) but also pretty ( dishonest. ) they’re TWENTY TWO and they’ve been living in woodstock for TWENTY TWO YEARS. it must be their shift because i totally hear THE CRANBERRIES blasting from the record store. ( a little tikes piggy bank tucked under the bed, clothing label sticking out from the back, snap clips with varnish peeling off, jelly shoes with the strap taped together, leaving lisa frank stickers along record crates ) @volumeupdates
BIO
the luke hemsworth of the family but middle child
goes by byul
tried to go by ‘e.b.’ but her mum went berserk because she’d reduced her name to two letters for the ease of her yt friends and her brother bullied her for being e.t’s ugly sister so now she tries to go by silver star (her name translated into english) but it doesn’t quite stick
claims that her older sister and younger brother stole all her beauty, brain cells and height
family invested everything into older sister so she could go to college in new york: savings, loans, moved to smaller house which is even further from the town centre
brother requires all attention as he has high hopes of getting into college on a baseball scholarship and she lowkey can’t wait until he’s far away from woodstock
her grades have always been average so no one expects her to leave – her parents talk about how nice it is that she’ll be with them forever but she knows that’s because they want her to take care of them when they’re old … which she would! if they didn’t live in woodstock
she tells them she’s going to move to california, but they think she’s as serious about that as she is about wanting to go to college, or becoming supermodel of the world, or an olympic swimmer, when she has average grades, of average height, and can’t even swim
if her life was a movie, she’d have fallen asleep in the first ten minutes – it has always been so boring and uneventful, so she lives up in her head with her fake scenarios to keep things interesting – most of the time, they’re taken straight from a book or magazine
sometimes these thoughts spill over into reality because she can’t fathom the idea of people realising she’s as plain as she is, and her little white lies give her a bit of sparkle to stand out (in her opinion)
but she will get to california!
she even has a plan:
she’s been working at freddy’s diner since she was fifteen, escaping to high volume whenever she can, a place where she can pop her headphones on during her breaks and pretend she’s getting ogled at on venice beach, but she’s terrible at saving so seven years later she’s still grinding
once she graduates high school, she has enough time for a second job and she’d dropped enough hints in front of jerry for him to kindly offer her a job. after all, she spends as much time in high volume as she does at freddy’s so there’s not much of a difference once she becomes an employee -- still floating around the place, sipping on her coke can, either people watching or people chasing -- except now she has access to the register
after a big argument with her parents, she ended up moving out into a place in the middle of town. that was never part of the plan because saving was easier when she lived at home. she’ll say things got really bad but really, she was just getting closer to her target and she wanted a valid reason to put it off for a bit longer
she was only supposed to do it once – stealing from the cash register. it was just right there, no one was around, and she thought it was going to be her last shift because jerry was angry at her for being late again (granted, he hadn’t actually been mad, but it was one of those days when everything felt personal)
besides, she’d overheard a group of girls she’d idolised in school talk about how they stole some underwear and they made it sound so cool
she felt like everyone could hear her heart thumping against her chest as she walked out of the store but the day after, no one said anything about it, no one even noticed, and she wasn’t fired. so she did it again, and again, and again, and eventually she didn’t even bat an eyelid
the extra money was supposed to help her reach her goal faster but, again, she’s terrible at saving and her parents are so hardworking, she can’t help but feel guilty and buy nice things for them every once in a while and when they ask where she got the money from, she lies and says jerry gave her a bonus for being a good employee
on the other hand, if they’ve had an argument, or they’ve forgotten about her again, she’ll have a full on les-mis-i-dreamed-a-dream episode then splurge out on a cute jacket because it’s hers and it’s new! rather than worn out hand-me-downs from her sister or brother!
started her own side hustle called the separation agency – inspired after a customer at high volume asked her to help him break up with his boyfriend. so she’s the messenger for people who have things to say but don’t have the balls to say it to someone’s face themselves. usually they’re horrible messages, like break ups. she’s had like three customers and tries to promote her side hustle whilst on her shift at high volume
she thinks her “business” could actually thrive in a bigger city which is just another reason why she needs to get out of woodstock – it’s holding her back!
anyway, jerry’s missing, which is perfect for her because she gets to come in late and not get told off, and maybe steal a little more than she usually does
PERSONALITY:
when she’s around people, she seems like an extrovert: bubbly, talkative, dramatic ... which uses up a lot of her energy and her social battery is weak, so needs her own space often, and likes doing nothing by herself so sometimes she’ll lie to get out of plans or bail last minute
she has big dreams, and talks about all her big plans, but has leaving anxiety which is why she’s shit at saving and makes up excuses as to why she can’t leave just yet
has main character syndrome -- likes to live her life as a romcom, most of her lies revolve around her love life because she wants to be seen as desirable, but also will overanalyse everything
sensitive, passionate, immature, sympathetic, fickle, clumsy, dramatic, caring, head in clouds
will pretend to knows things to fit in like ~hipster~ bands or anything really, depends on the crowd
could gladly spend all day talking to customers at work then the next day she’ll prefer to day dream in the storage room
rides a bike to and from work and almost everywhere else too -- the only one out of her siblings who had to bike to school because small car and siblings took up all the space -- she’s had the same bike since high school
loves spice girls but feels like she’ll be judged so keeps quiet and plays it when she’s closing
honestly could hate you one day and have a crush on you the next but you wouldn’t even know it -- a vicious cycle
collects stickers and leaves them everywhere and on everyone - often passive aggressive through them, basically uses them like emojis
will try to order food and get others to pay for it - especially kfc, never gets to eat the drumsticks at home so will honestly cry if people steal the drumsticks from her
buys lottery tickets and scratch cards because she has a 50/50 chance of winning
WANTED CONNECTIONS: (current connections)
start up: stolen str8 from a kdrama that ruined my life hehe her parents set her up with a pen pal to keep her busy out of guilt because they’re so busy with her siblings and work and obviously she romanticises it !!! her parents would’ve asked to lie a little bit, just so she’d be writing to someone she’d easily obsess over -- love island vc: someone who ticks all the boxes
xoxo gossip girl: someone who loves a good gossip sesh -- they probably send 👀 at each other across the store when things feel a bit tense, which is code for ‘meet me in the storage room’ so they can chat away for the rest of their shift
lunch stealer: she makes her own lunch every day and is extremely protective over it but one day it went missing and she knows it was them (maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t) so now they are her sworn enemy
sister’s/brother’s friend: therefore an automatic enemy
shut up: someone who just tells her to shut up because she chats so much shit and she’s insane - just sandra x dina vibes from superstore (x)
carpool karaoke: she hates cycling in when it’s raining, so either she’s trying to get them to be her designated driver or has already succeeded and is annoying about it
crush #1: someone she has a crush on (more of an infatuation) and they’re not interested in her in the slightest but in her head they’re giving her mixed signals and she has made up a fake boyfriend to try to make them jealous
crush #2: someone she thinks has a crush on her. either because they’re nice or tease her or just mean, it doesn’t matter, she’s insane so she’ll interpret it however she wants
ex: they never broke up, or even dated, but she thinks something almost happened between them and she thinks she cut things off by giving them space
separation agency: someone who once used the agency either out of the kindness of their heart or for a different reason entirely and now she won’t stop pestering them to try and get them to use it again
no thots just vibes: i just like this gifset tbh (x) and we can brainstorm !

What’s your hyperspecific headcanon about Lucas that you’ll die defending? I’m curious!
Oh my gosh! Well we’ve been so blessed with Lucas On The Line, which I need to get my hands on. I ESPECIALLY admire how it tackles his experiences as a black child in a majority white state.
But I have a few thoughts about him that warm my heart!
Low Tier - Basic Headcanons:
- Lucas may have been a boy scout for some time! Ultimately not a good fit, for a multitude of reasons, (the real life BSOA kind-of suck) but he learned a lot of survival skills, and I think he has a huge obsession with survivalism. He can tie knots and sail a sailboat and start fires lots of different ways in the backyard!
-Related, but Lucas is as big into local plants and bugs as Dustin is into animals. Lucas knows all the loval flora and fauna in hawkins and keeps arguing for foraging. He’d be the kid trying to get everyone to eat a dandelion leaf while camping because “it’s edible go on try it!”
- Lucas and Eddie (imo) both have a father who was in the military.
-Lucas has a really big extended family and they are always home for every single holiday and the house is packed. They all have enormous board game nights.
Hyperspecific Niche Headcanons:
-With his mother’s teaching, Lucas can quilt AND sew serviceably.
-Lucas did karate for a little bit at the school Murray currently attends. Lucas passed the kid’s black belt level and gave it up for something else, but they were like ships in the night.
-Semi-canon but Lucas has the most hustle out of all the kids, he does townwide tasks and summer jobs to save money, and he is occasionally the ‘bank’ when people forget their cash for the arcade, although he charges interest on loans and keeps a STRICT tally in a notebook.
-On a related note, this makes Lucas an absolute beast on valentines day. Max had her candy gram arrive in the MIDDLE of class alongside a HUGE teddy bear and a GIANT RED BALLOON she had to carry the REST of the day. She says she hates it but Lucas knows she’s had a hard life and loves to buy her things to make her feel special and worth it. Max keeps the balloon in her room until it’s shrivelled up and deflated.
-This also translates over to D&D, Lucas’s first actions are always to protect Max in combat, but it’s more than that. He will make a big show of saying he is purchasing her drink at the tavern, and “are there flowers in this field? I pick a bouqet for Lady Maxine” and yes it IS a slightly competitive thing to make Mike feel like a piece of garbage to the point where Lucas and Max are locked in a constant battle of gratuitous fictional displays of affection to the point where Eddie has to draw the line after Mike drops 30 platinum on a sending stone for his “girlfriend in the next village” and Lucas says he wants to dual class in cleric and make Max his paladin diety.
-When he’s not roleplaying constant loyal romance, Lucas’s main tactic is preparing spells and taking the Ready action. He ACTUALLY USES ball bearings and caltrops. As a ranger (and later ranger cleric) he has a falcon animal companion named Rambo.
- Lucas’s bike is the most tricked out, and for Christmas one year he gets that attachment from the 60s and 70s infomercials with its own key like a car that makes it sound like a MOTORCYCLE and he uses it 24/7 until the batteries die out.
-Mike takes notes in D&D because he’s a goody two shoes. LUCAS takes notes to fuck with the DM and ask about shit he knows full well Eddie won’t remember. Sometimes he can get away with lying too, though he relents good naturedly if caught.
-All the actors are broadway stars so I have to say, if Dustin can sing, Lucas can sing AND dance— but he ALSO has the best sense of humor. Seconded by Will, who is unmatched for dry wit, but Lucas has a genuinely keen sense of what is funny. Especially at the D&D table, he’ll play the long game and then pull out a gag item everyone forgot about and have Eddie on the FLOOR because he forgot he gave them the ‘Stick Of Explode Horse’.
-Lucas (and Erica) are the best at insults. You will not survive.
BONUS:
This is half a headcanon half just an opinion but I think Lucas and Steve have a lot more in common than the show really displays. Both play basketball and bridge the gap between superficial jock popularity and making real friends. I think Steve and Lucas could REALLy bond over sports but ALSO about being fierce protectors over the ones they love. Steve and Lucas are both big fighters and BIG lovers and they deserve to relate to eachother! Related to the above, Steve gives Lucas his OWN varsity jacket from Hawkins High as a graduation present.
and FINALLY.
till the DAY I DIE.
LUCAS. IS. THE. HEART.

I’m struggling so much financially and honestly just wanted to vent somewhere. I’ve always lived in poverty and I think in my whole life I’ve had maybe 2 years where I didn’t have to stress about money and not be able to buy groceries or pay rent or be put into collections for not being able to make payments etc and that was when I was in college. For at least the past 5 years I’ve been struggling but I never talk about it. I don’t even know where to start haha I don’t even know what it’s like to not stress financially and be in debt. I’ll just start with the first things that come to mind with what I’m owing maybe. So it’s Dec. 23 and rent was due yesterday because we moved into this small suite attached to someone’s house on Nov. 22. It’s $1200 which is so expensive, but also the average price for BC if not even cheaper for a one-bedroom with a yard, utilities included. and no first and last, no pet deposits, etc because this is just short them for 4 months until the end of March because i reached out and asked and they said yes.
After 1 month I already remember why we went into the trailer almost 2 years ago and it’s literally because we can’t afford any other lifestyle. I think that’s the difference between us and some people that live in trailers, vans, etc. like we lived in a mouse & mouse shit infested trailer for 6 months breathing in their feces and urine and having it all over all our belongings. i literally had to take my whole life to the dump and we officially have no food storage because they ruined it all. there were at least 50-60 mice because a few birth cycles happened in the ceiling. I could write a whole post about my experience of living with field mice, but now isn’t the time so for rent, i only had $600 yesterday so that’s what I gave them. thank goodness they were okay with me asking for a few more days to make the other half. but I don’t even know when that’s going to be :(
my etsy shop veganveins has been doing so bad lately for more than one reason, most of my orders are just postcards and stickers, and while I’m grateful for them, that $1-3 profit isn’t going to keep my business going. and it’s so hard for me to work lately. the wifi doesn’t work sometimes for hours and I always get distracted by shawn and the dogs working from home in a small space. I need to get better at my time management. I got up at 8:30 today which is actually early for me so I’m proud of myself. I’m chronically ill and I really need to go get a blood test and see what’s happening because I haven’t gotten one since being diagnosed with graves disease again 1.5 years ago. anyways. i switched to a print on demand method this year for veganveins for some shirts and sweaters because i couldn’t afford to keep ordering shirts in bulk, and it’s honestly been so, so expensive and i barely make any profit. I’m currently owing my t-shirt printer $999 on one invoice (it was originally $2196 so I’ve at least paid half of it) but that was 2 weeks ago and I still need to pay it. Mario, my t-shirt printer has been with me since I started veganveins and I’m so grateful he gives me extensions on paying the invoices. every other t-shirt printer I’ve ever asked has said no. in addition to the $999 there’s going to be another $2200 invoice I’ll be receiving this week for my last order. I think because of the holidays he’s going to give me some time to pay off that too, but the problem is when I have outstanding invoices he doesn’t print new orders for me. He’s closed now until Jan. 4 so I just need to somehow make that much before then.
btw I don’t have a credit card ($8500 all used on veganveins and it got put into collections last march) and I had a fully used $5000 line of credit but I got a debt consolidation loan for $16,000 1 month ago and my payment for that is $167 a month. it fully paid off and closed my credit card and line of credit + $3000 overdraft which is nice. but now I don’t have any extra money except for what comes in. my credit is only 640 which is really bad in canada so I won’t get approved for a new credit card or loan until I build that up, which is going to be a few months of regular payments. so for regular payments, the $167 for the loan is due on Dec. 27. Yesterday the trailer loan which is literally unliveable from what the mice did until we renovate it came out for $260, that’s how much I pay once a month for it on the 22nd. I didn’t have $260 in my account so it got rejected and I got charged a $48 NSF fee. omg if anyone is reading this long i’m shook. i’m genuinely just writing this for myself to process my feelings and in case anyone was curious about my financial situation here you go haha. maybe some of you can relate, maybe some can’t. anyways. so now I somehow have to get $260 in my account for that for when they try to take it out again in the next few days.
another payment that was supposed to come out yesterday but hasn’t, but I’m sure will come out today is our truck loan. they deferred it for 8 months because of covid which was so nice, but we started paying it again 2 months ago. for both those months I called and made my payment a later date and that helped, but there’s barely any service here so when I called 4 times yesterday to try and change the date the payment comes out, I was on hold for 20-30 mins then my phone would disconnect and hang up. so that’s $586 and it will come out today, I have $0.46 in my account right now so it will get rejected and I’ll get charged another $48 NSF fee. this is why being poor always costs more and the banks are always harsher on those who don’t have money. today I’ll try calling again to see if I can ask for it to come out on a different day like january 10 instead, so I can first have time to pay rent and the trailer and also our $190 truck insurance which got rejected from my account 3 days ago, which was another $48 NSF fee. oh and something else i’m so stressed about is CIBC is going to put me into collections on December 28 if I don’t pay $1000, $700 of which is purely their fees. I have a $300 overdraft which they said i have to cover by then and the $700 is literally their $48 fees added up over the past 3 months. I got a text from them today saying my account is over and it’s because an amnesty international $11 monthly donation came out and obvi there’s no money in there, so that’s another $48 they charged. they’ve already given me a month to pay it and don’t want to wait any longer :(
I owe everyone in my family money, my sister $1650, my mom $700 and my brother also lent me $700. none of my siblings have money either and my mom definitely doesn’t so I hate that i had to borrow that much, and it’s literally been months. thankfully they’re so patient but i can’t wait to not owe them that
omg and i can’t even think about the amount of money shawn’s grandma has lent us. she’s genuinely the only reason we haven’t been completely homeless. but it’s a lot. like i don’t even want to say the number on here. she let us use it from her line of credit over the years and we’ve been slowly paying her back, but she lets us go months at a time without making a payment which i honestly hate doing, but have no choice. i’ve felt a lot of shame and guilt about this, but I also know that she genuinely would rather help us than see us suffer.
so i’m gonna talk about a big reason I’m broke this month especially - saving a pig named buster. his rescue cost me $1850 out of pocket that I didn’t have. but otherwise he was going to be killed in 2 days, he was my baby and I loved him so I had to do it. I somehow made $1350 that went towards it but I’m still owing $500, which I just asked for an extension for today until the new year. i’m not really supposed to talk about it but everything I’ve ever posted here has stayed here, so that cost was literally just from me buying the pig off the farmer. myself along with everyone else ive talked to is disgusted that he charged that much, but he wasnt budging and if that’s what it was going to take, of course I’m going to do it. I wouldn’t think twice about doing it for my dogs and Buster was smarter and more affectionate than them. i love him and I’m so happy he was saved. a non-profit organization transported him to a sanctuary and it was my biggest wish come true and the happiest moment I’ve had all year. my eyes are literally tearing up haha i love him so much. i could write a whole post about his neglect but basically he hasn’t had fresh water in weeks, he was only being fed handfuls of mixed nuts, he was constantly dirty in a muddy enclosure with an electric fence that he was always getting shocked on. he never got true love or affection except for when I gave him it. i posted an instagram story about him and asked people to message me and that i needed help, 2 people donated $111 and $120 each, and 2 other people donated $15 and $12. Someone also e-transferred me $20. These 4 donations equaled almost $300 ($277) and I was so grateful for those people wanting to help me help buster. if anyone else wants to help me with the cost of his rescue i still do need help and would appreciate it so much. this feels really weird and vulnerable for me to do and i’m sorry if anyone is annoyed by this post, I just genuinely am struggling and figured if someone does have extra and wants to help, there isn’t harm in that. but i do feel guilty for asking because i know there are so many other people struggling out there that need even more help than i do :(
i haven’t talked about it publically but i guess I will now, this farmer that I bought buster off of is the owner of the organic vegetable farm i was living and working at this past spring and summer. we worked really hard all summer to be able to stay there and park for free in the winter, but this past fall he told us no one was allowed to stay at the farm anymore, including us, so we had to find a new place to bring our 14ft trailer in to live. so that was an unexpected bummer and if we had known we wouldn’t be allowed staying there anymore (despite doing the labour of $1200 a month for free harvesting organic kale, for an off-grid spot he told us was worth $350 a month to park) we wouldn’t have driven 8 hours with the trailer and we would have stayed in the snow in northern BC and sucked it up and lived on the land we got the opportunity to rent this fall. Donna, the woman who is renting the land to us has been the biggest blessing in my life this year. I love her so much. Basically, she’s letting us live on 170 acres for $600 a month. letting us do whatever we want on the land (building a cabin, setting up rainwater catchment systems, having a solar passive greenhouse and a huge garden) LIKE WHAT. we could even open a farm sanctuary if we had money, i wanted to so bad but obviously that dream didn’t even come close to being reality. opportunities like this literally don’t exist in canada, especially not in BC. i cant even process my gratitude, i cry everytime i think about it. when we go back in the spring it’s going to be the beginning of the rest of our life :) i want to rescue so many senior dogs. everything we’ve always wanted to do we’ll be able to do, assuming we have money haha. but i want to have an organic farm and grow veggies to donate to families in need, especially since we live on stolen indiginious land and I see how the goverment actively restricts their access to fresh healthy produce. but anyways by then it was too dangerous to drive 8 hours back hauling a trailer in the snow and it was just easier to stay in the okanagan until the spring. i know the farmer probably doesn’t realize this and he’s also probably struggling financially but not being able to stay at the farm for the winter months we worked for, and buying buster for that price is a big reason I’m in the financial stress I am now so I figured i’d talk about it.
anyways. i think this is long enough and i think anyone reading this gets the point, i’m drowning in debt, my small business is almost costing me more to run and i’m not making nearly enough profit to live, the past few months ive been living off grid (not by choice) and just focused literally on surviving and not freezing and getting water etc and not having service or internet has affected me negatively. there’s internet now in the suite I’m in, it works really good in the morning and not as well at night, like for example tumblr doesn’t work past 5 pm for me to post photos. but ive been in a bad sleep schedule since i got here that i need to change. im sick and i need to heal myself. tomorrow i’ll set my alarm for 7:30. hopefully i make some money today. i got a social media managing job and it will end up being $1000 a month once i do the 3+ hours a day of work which im already feeling like i barely have time for my own basic life tasks. but i can do this.
if anyone reading this wants to help me out a bit, my paypal email is [email protected] or http://www.paypal.com/paypalme/veganveins
and my e-transfer email is [email protected] i have auto deposit so you won’t have to ask a question :)
this is my first time in 7 years i’ve made a post like this or asked for help. i won’t do it again but figured i have nothing to lose. if you read up to here i love you a lot and thank you so much for being here <3

Haven Port | Chapter Seven| Shawn Mendes
Summary: Shawn and his pack have moved to your tiny town of Haven Port. You’ve never met werewolves other than your dad before and you’re infinitely curious. You may be only half werewolf but you and Shawn have a connection that will send you on a wild romantic journey in this small town you call home. [hybrid reader] [werewolf shawn]
Word Count: 1.8k
|Masterlist In Bio|
Since the founding festival things have been going smoothly. The weather has eased up, the snow is starting to melt. Haven Port is beginning to see the first signs of spring, and with spring comes the ships. Triple the number of ships that you see in the winter months to be more accurate. More boats means more business for the shop.
Tia suggests making the shop a cafe a few weeks after the festival. She knows how to get permits and she is willing to help you run it. The only issue is money. You've got a little bit in savings but you're not too keen on taking out a loan from one of the banks in the city. Tia has savings too and she is willing to go in with you but ultimately it's your call. Making the shop a cafe will be a big undertaking and a huge change from just using and buying dry goods. You're going to think about it and sort out everything that will need to be planned.
It's a Monday morning and you head down to the docks to take Shawn some lunch. He's been working overtime since the weather has gotten nicer. You know he's been putting everything extra into savings but you don't know why. You hope he isn't doing it to help you make the shop into a cafe, you told him you wouldn't accept his help on it and the only reason you'd take Tia's help is because she will be a partner.
The water is choppy, loudly slapping up against the undersides of the old wooden docks as you make your way down the hill and across the port. Shawn works in hangar two, on the far side. You can see dark skies on the horizon, a storm that's churning up the water. Hopefully it stays out there.
You wave to a few of the guys you know as you pass, men your father worked with when you were a kid. Just as you pass dock six you see a group of guys getting off of a boat. Usually this wouldn't catch your eye, people come and go every day, but one guy in particular has your attention. At first glance you thought it was Shawn, but you're not close enough and why would Shawn be on a freshly docked boat? You speed up, trying to catch up with the group before they disperse into the crowds of fisherman and workers near the hangar entrances.  No luck. The guy is lost in the sea of people. Maybe Shawn was just helping them fix something. You turn down the walk way and head for hangar two, if Shawn isn't there one of the guys will know where he went.
Hangar two is packed when you arrive. There is a ship up on risers being worked on and it looks terrible. If this thing sailed into port like this you're shocked they weren't towing it off the bottom of the harbor right now. You look around at the crew, defined by their blue work shirts that say dock crew on the back. There isn't a ton of actual crew but more fisherman than you can count.
"Hey! Cat girl!"
You whip around and glare at the direction the insult came from. You knew forgetting your headwrap was a mistake, especially when the docks are teaming with unfamiliar people. "Get fucked!" You shout and head for the office door at the back.
In the office there are a few of the upper management guys taking a break and you spot Bruce the manager of hangar two.
"Bruce, have you seen Shawn?"
The older man turns and smiles brightly. "Of course! He's on the port side welding a patch on the hull."
"Thanks!"
Bruce motions to the lunch bag you have in hand for Shawn. "No treats for me?"
"No, just for Shawn. Maybe next time? I'll make some cookies."
He laughs boisterously. "I'll hold you to it!"
You shake your head and smile before turning out onto the work floor and heading for the ship. If Shawn is welding that means he was not the guy out on the docks, so whoever you saw earlier was a strange look alike.
Sure enough Shawn is up on the scaffolding welding. You grab a pair of the tinted safety glasses and put them on before looking up to get his attention. "Hey!"
Shawn shuts down his torch and lifts his face guard. "Hey sweetheart. What's up?"
"Lunch." You lift the bag of food up for him. "Come down."
He puts his stuff aside and descends the scaffold carefully. "I was gonna go home for lunch. Bruce is giving me a half day since I've been working so much. He wants me to have some time away."
"Oh, I won't argue. We'd have the house to ourselves for a while."
Shawn wipes his hands on his jeans and tosses his welding gloves aside. "Sign me up." He wraps his arms around you and noses your ears. "It's about time we got some down time together."
"Check out with Bruce and we'll head home."
"Yes ma'am."
___________________
Nearly an hour later and you and Shawn are laid together on the couch at the pack house. You decided to change things up, to give him attention. So you have him laying between your legs and you put your hands in his hair. It's so thick and it feels longer since you first met but maybe it's just because you don't do this often.
"This is nice." Shawn purrs, rubbing his head back against your chest.
You scratch gently with your short nails and he groans, body becoming heavier as he melts into your body. "You like this? You like when I scratch your head?" You flex your fingers and he moans softly.
"I've never had this."
"What? No one has ever played with your hair?"
He shakes his head. "I always do the playing. I guess an alpha is expected to provide."
You snort. "That's some shit." You tug his hair gently and he growls soft and lovingly. "Alphas deserve to get as much as they give.”
Shawn turns over, rolling between your legs to lay with his face on your chest. "You're making me weak."
You giggle softly. "An alpha weak for a hybrid? Wow you must really like me."
"Iloveyou." He mumbles, rubbing his face against your boobs.
"Hmm?"
Shawn pulls back and looks up at you, face red from his groaning and rubbing. "I love you."
You cup his face and he crawls up so he is over you, face close to yours. "Y-you love me?"
He nods. "I've been trying to say it since we met but I've been worried about how you would take it. I know we've discussed the mate situation but saying it out loud is something entirely different."
"I love you too."
He leans in and presses his lips to yours. You giggle and he presses in harder, hands going to your hair. You wrap your arms around his back and grip, making him press down into you. Things get very heated after that, hips rolling desperately into each other and kisses traveling across your jaw to your neck.
Just as you're about to suggest going up to his room there is a knock on the front door. The sudden interruption makes your heart stop and everything feel cold. Shawn pushes up and looks to the door.
"Who is that?" He mumbles, crawling off of you. "Usually the others let me know if they're expecting a package."
You sit up and fix your shirt he had messed up with his hand under it. "Maybe it's someone who's lost."
Shawn pulls open the front door and you peer over the back of the couch. "Shit."
"Who-"
A man steps in and he looks just like Shawn, the spitting image of him like a clone just waltzed out of a lab. You have no doubt this is Shawn and Peter's other brother, Raul. He's got on a beanie and suddenly you realize that he is the guy you saw at the Port. He's the one you thought was Shawn getting off a boat.
"You're hard to find Shawn." Raul says and shrugs his coat off. "I just happened to come across Ryan and Lindsay and they told me where you were."
"What do you need?"
"My family." Raul pulls his beanie off and you let out a soft gasp that gets his attention immediately. He has ears just like yours but they're dark like his hair and much smaller and closer to his head than yours.
"Shawn, you didn't tell me he was like me."
Raul crosses the room and you both stare at each other intently, eyes raking over one another curiously. "She's your mate?"
"Yes, and Raul just didn't come up, I didn't think anything of it." Shawn walks over and stands very close, almost wary of his brother's gaze upon you.
"How?" You ask, looking between the two of them. "You and Peter aren't..." You reach up and run a hand over Shawn's head as if you could have missed them. "How?"
Raul reaches out and touches your ear, fingers gliding up the side delicately and you shiver, not hating the touch but also not entirely comfortable.
Shawn stiffens up beside you.
"Our parents are an alpha and a hybrid. I got the hybrid and human genetics and the other two didn't. Luck of the draw I guess, it could have been much worse considering we're triplets. You're stunning by the way, I haven't seen many hybrids look as gorgeous as you."
"Thanks?" You step closer to Shawn as he wraps his arm around you and Raul pulls his hand away from your ear.
"Why are you here again?" Shawn asks, changing the subject.
"This." Raul lifts his sweater and reveals a large bandage around his middle. "Hunters tried to kill me in my apartment and I got away but a bullet got me in the side." He drops his shirt. "I figured being with my brother would be safer than being alone."
"Brothers. Peter is here too." Shawn says and Raul's face lights up. "He brought a wolf with him, but the rest of his pack was taken down by hunters as well."
"Everyone?"
"All but Tia, but she found Peter after the fact."
"Shit."
Shawn presses a kiss to your head. "You're welcome to stay, but keep the flirting to a minimum."
Raul grins and winks at you. "Of course I will. I'm just curious, it's been a long time since I saw another hybrid."
"Keep your curiosity to a minimum then." Shawn growls and wraps both arms around you. "Now excuse us, we're having some alone time."
Raul raises his hands and wanders off toward the kitchen. No doubt you and Shawn will just cuddle a while longer and then take a nap. You know Shawn won't take things further with anyone in the house, but that's fine, your mind is elsewhere where now.

Hey, I saw your gorgeous faceclaims for Terry's parents earlier, so I was wondering; could you perhaps do some sort of quick one-shot featuring the two of them? Nothing long or complicated. Just a little insight into their daily (messy?) lives back in the 50s? Thanks a lot. 💙
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He waddled in drunk.
Again.
Thing is, he didn’t understand how come Red 31 wasn’t a winning option on the roulette wheel when red as a color has never failed him before - his lucky choice for years, in a sense. He could’ve swore to god almighty, that fucking game was rigged. It was rigged and it was rigged in such a way to harm the economic savings of decent, hard-working Americans like himself. Really, if anything, he blamed McCarty for letting in all those damn Communists into the country and messing up the order of things around here. That was the only way Morton could explain his losses tonight. Fifty thousand dollars in one sitting. Straight ripoff and as such, the deplorable state he was in tonight was well-warranted. Did he try to fight those bastards in the security department? Yes! Did he get thrown out of the casino? Yes, he was! Did he, by any chance get in an alteration with one of the suckers who did in fact win a sizeable amount of money tonight on the same fucking roulette wheel and were slaps generously thrown around? Yes, they absolutely were! And proudly at that! This was a free land.
And now, he was home.
Deep-fucking-joy.
His beautiful pastel Harrods catalogue house.
To his gorgeous nagging wife and their gorgeous tiny brat son.
-”It’s three in the morning.”-
A voice chided and of course Myra would be awake waiting for him like some sort of interrogator in the partial darkness of the hallway, stepping out of the bedroom in a silk bathrobe over her lace chemise and her blue rollers strapped to her curls, arms crossed over her chest with bloody intent, a scowl gracing her red lips as she took a long drag out of her cigarette, huffing the smoke into the air. She had time to put on a lipstick? In the middle of the night? The damn casino scammed him out of his own money and she had time for her goddamn rouge face-paint? The absolute nerve of this broad. She didn’t even wear her usual house slippers. No. She had her heels on like some manner of decadent, shameless saloon harlot. Because of course she did.
Wretched Biblical viper.
-”Y’know. If I knew you’d be so good at stating the obvious and telling the damn time I’ve would’ve strapped you to my wrist instead of a Rolex and just carried you with me around all day.”-
Morton shook his hand at her frantically to nail the idea behind his words into her head, clanking the gold clasp of his arm-watch in her direction. The general idea was, that before she even tried to accuse him of anything at this late hour, to gently remind her, as she often needed to be, that he in fact made all the money in this household, and as such, he could waste and spend as much of it as he pleased, however he pleased, whenever he pleased like the man he was. Because, really - who was going to stop him? Did she really think he didn’t know what time it was? There were no clocks in casinos. Yet, he always knew, regardless. It was an ingrained instinct, by now.
-”You’re bleeding, you reek and you look like hell, Morty.”-
She clicked her tongue in annoyance alongside an eyeroll, using an endearment instead of his full name, walking around him with her heels clicking on the marble carpeted floor as she plopped down in the velvet armchair facing him directly, crossing her legs, watching him pour himself a glass of scotch and downing it one swift move. This has happened before. Of course it has. But, was it such a sin he wanted out of this stifling, godforsaken upper middle class life out here in the fucking desert, peddling rings and knick-knack like a common salesman or roadside merchant? Was it so bad he wanted to make a quick spin of money? Was it so hard to understand he wanted Lady Fortune to smile at him? If only just once? Let him live the life he knew he deserved? That she deserved. That their son deserved. That he, correction and all humbleness aside, Morton Silver, deserved, most of all?
-”We can’t all look like Liz Taylor, ma’am. Respectfully.”-
He spat back in disgust, loathing how beautiful she appeared.
So close to making him behave in ways a gentleman never should.
-”How much?”-
She inquired firmly, with a certain sense of softness.
He immediately what she meant, even without clarifying.
He averted his gaze, sighing in defeat - putrid, bitter defeat.
Leveling his eyes instead, with the glass liqueur bottle in front of him.
-”That much, huh?”-
Myra knew, even without words spoken, more or less what the monetary casualties of tonight’s exploits were - she had an instinct for things like that by now, the damn woman - finishing the butt of her cigar and crushing it in the crystal ashtray next to her seat and leaning over her white cream boudoir instead, starting to remove the rolls from her hair one by one, combing them out steadily and attaching the pearled earrings to the pierced holes of her lobes. She once stated he had a serious addiction and that  she read in a health magazine at her book club that such things weren’t anything to be ashamed of and that it could be curable with the right methods and care - that she worried about the state of him - where he was headed - where they were headed, as a married couple - but he didn’t want to hear about it. If she intended to institutionalise him she had another thing coming. He knew what they did to people deemed crazy.
And the Silvers had a reputation to uphold around these parts.
His father was a jeweler and his father before him.
His father’s father, even.
He only wanted to increase what he inherited.
Not let it all go to waste with the knowledge that he wasn’t quite right.
People would avoid them both like the plague for it - bloody bastards.
-”I’ll make it back for us. I always do. You know me! You know I do! I’ve luck at the tip of my fingers, all I need is the right moment at the right time and it’ll find me when I least expect it! And you love me for it! Maybe next time this year, we’ll be sitting at a balcony somewhere, overlooking the sea! And you’ll be sunbathing with a big hat and we’ll never look back! Maybe up the West Coast - maybe -”-
He found himself ranting, a wave of desperation, guilt and hysteria taking over his senses, fueled by alcohol and a need to rationalize and justify himself, suddenly on his knees and grabbing Myra by her ankles, nearly ripping the nylon of her sheer, flesh-colored stockings with the sharpness of the ruby on his wedding band, pulling her away from the mirror and back unto her arm chair, embracing her legs and leaning his face unto her lap, trapping her in place because he needed her to stay put and listen like he needed air to breathe, rambling and stuttering as he did. He despised this place and he knew she did too, but money was never enough to move someplace better permanently and for that reason he hated it here all the more out of rage. All the dust and scorched, dryness of the earth, and the unbearable desert wind and the goddamn mob burring mutilated bodies out in the wild, and the hyenas, and the loan-sharks, and the snakes, and the hookers and the temptations and the sinning and people blowing their fucking brains out due to accumulated debt and he just couldn’t take it anymore. It was hell. And he wasn’t out of here in a couple of years, he’d just ram his car off of the first cliff with himself, Myra and Terry in it and call it a day. It wasn’t the most Christian way to go, but heck if he cared at this point. He was as far removed from God’s light as he could be by now.
-”You’ll wake up the child with your drunk rambling.”-
She chastised whispering, with infinite tenderness.
With a tinge of sadness and pity too, he figured tiredly.
Letting her run her manicured fingers through his hair sweetly.
Comforting him - another woman would’ve left him by now, surely.
He drank and whored around and gambled and cussed and shouted.
Not her though - all she wanted was him, their son and money.
And although a bit skinny, puny and small for his age.
Almost to the point of occasional embarrassment -
Morton figured a change of scenery would do Terence good too.
Get some strength back into him - make him tall, statuesque and healthy.
Last thing Morton Silver wanted was a malnourished, sickly offspring.
-”Do you believe me, though? Do you believe me when I say I’ll give us lives worthy of gods and leave behind this petty corner-store waste of time? I don’t want to spend the rest of my days behind an old, dusty counter, convincing people which fucking engagement ring to buy some random, nameless dame off of the street they met in a joint one time!”-
He looked up at her almost pleading, fingers digging into her skin to the borderline point of nearly making her bleed - his humiliation at requiring her approval in the first place mingling with genuine need and rage at even being in his position mixing into a potent sort of fury where he was just one inch away from slapping her if she answered negatively and then grabbing her and kissing her the next for running her pretty little mouth like that. He was an irresponsible, hypocrite, drunk gambler and lying, materialistic, greedy whore-mongerer. She was a tobbacco-addicted, fashion-crazed, haughty diva obsessed with her pearls and being the perfect, unassuming upper-crust housewife and mother. They were made for each other. Hell, they even looked alike, aesthetically speaking, both pale, lanky, dark haired, with stark blue eyes - like a matched pair of paper dressing dolls cut-out from a magazine. If anything - little Terry would be a looker. Not an overly wealthy looker, but a looker nonetheless. A little pretty twig-boy with no inheritance quite big enough or impressive to turn heads. Not if they stay here. In this crime-infested cesspool of filth that threatened to drag him down even lower.
He pressed a sloppy, inebriated half-kiss to the side of her mouth.
Trying to make himself forget how much he exactly lost tonight.
She turned her head away, nostrils flaring at the stench of him.
She didn’t exactly bear the scent of roses either, reeking of tobacco.
How many did she exactly smoke in the darkness expecting his return?
-”You always did things your way and I’ve enabled you, in part. Now all I can do is sit around and wait for you to come home alive and hope to god someone doesn’t beat you half to death on the steps of some sleazy, two-bit gambling den like a dog.”-
Myra’s voice cracked and she was overtaken by a wave of sobbing.
Tracing the fresh wound on his head, impartially.
In defeat - her tone pained, regretful.
They been through his debate a million times.
And a million times they’ve reached this exact conclusion.
She didn’t even bother cleaning the blood on his scalp.
This happened so often, there was hardly a point anymore.
He’d be battered and bruised at work again by tomorrow.
She’d ambush him in this same fashion, at this same hour.
Wearing the same bathrobe and spewing the same reprimanding.
And he wouldn’t really change or learn - neither would she.

How Does a House Mortgage Interest Rate Calculated in NZ?
Interest rate Calculated in NZ which papers you read, or which social media you follow you can easily find all these warnings. On the same day!
Which makes it all very difficult to know what is the best thing to do (and the real secret is that even the ‘experts’ don’t really know either).
Q: When is the best time to plant a tree? A: About 10 years ago B: Today C: Tomorrow
Of course, the best answer is A. But unless you have a time travel machine the next best answer is ‘today’.
So, apply this question to buying your home. (Note that we did not say a house or an investment property because then different rules apply.) But if you are buying a home now is the best time to buy.
Why? Because the statistics tell us that over the long term property values will trend up. If you are looking for short-term gains in the property market that can be either profitable (if you know what you are doing) or can cause real pain. But as we said we are not talking about profit we are talking about getting you into a home.
Of course, if you buy now there is a chance that you may pay a little too much for it or if you had waited it would have been cheaper or maybe you could get a loan at 0.001% less than you did.
Or maybe prices could have risen or interest rates gone up or you may have missed out on what is to be your home forever.
Welcome to the real estate market.
But we are not real estate agents. We do not sell houses. But we can help you with your mortgage and any mortgage or house and contents insurance you may need.
But let’s start with your House Mortgage.
So, you’ve found your home. There has been all the joy, terror, and frustration of actually finding a property, negotiating with the vendor, or bidding at the auction, and then the buyer’s remorse when you finally sign on the dotted line.
But after all that - you own your home
Well, you own about twenty percent of it. For the next 25 to 30 years a bank or some lender owns the rest of it. And ultimately you will be paying quite dearly for the pleasure of homeownership.
We are sure you worked out the total cost that your home will ultimately cost you. You did go to sorted.org.nz , didn’t you? If you didn’t, we have a link to it on our website. It is worth a visit.
What will your house really cost you?
As we write this the average house price is $846,900. Now maybe you paid less for yours or more but for this example, we will use the average price. We will also assume you have contributed a 20% deposit of $169,380. So that means you will have a loan of $677,520. Currently, the big 3 banks are offering Variable Loans at around 4.5%.
Let’s see how that works out for you on a 30-year loan. Loan amount$677,520 Total you will pay: $1,235,842 Including interest of:$558,322
So, by the time you own your home (around 2051), you will have paid slightly more than 82% of the actual loan amount and the final cost of your home will be:
Total Paid$1,235,842
Deposit$169,380
Total Cost$1,405,222
(we got these figures from
sorted.org.nz
– check them out)
Of course, you can get different types of loans (fixed interest, revolving credit, interest-only) but these will mostly give you some short-term relief. Ultimately you will end up either increasing the length of your loan term (and pay even more in interest), have to make higher payments each month (great if you can afford it), or try to refinance it in some way.
What should I do?
Your real goal should be to reduce the length of the loan because, by doing this, you will save on the amount of interest you will pay. But how do you do that?
Banks suggest that you change the frequency of your loan from monthly to fortnightly (that might help – a little!) or make extra payments (good luck with that) but they never tell you how to really pay it off faster without increasing your monthly costs.
How can I save money on mortgage interest?
The truth is you can’t save money on the principal amount you have borrowed. That will need to be paid back.
But you can save money on the amount of interest you pay on that principle. That is why there is so much focus on interest rates going up or down.
So the amount of interest you will pay will depend on the interest rate you are paying and how long it takes to pay off the loan. So getting a better interest rate and reducing the term of the loan and not paying more each month is what you are trying to achieve.
Let’s assume you could reduce the term of your loan without increasing the amount you pay each month. Here is what your home would cost you if you could reduce your loan term to 15 years. Loan amount: $677,520 Total you will pay: $932,937 Including interest of:$255,417
Let’s put these 30 year and 15 year loans side by side
Loan PeriodLoan AmountPrincipalInterestTotal
30 years$677,520$677,520$558,322$1,235,842
15 years$677,520$677,520$255,417$932,937
  Interest Saved$302,905
And over a 30-year loan that is a saving of over $10,000 a year.
And remember, you have NOT increased your monthly costs to get here. This is costing you the same amount each month as the longer-term loan.
