Theories on why I think Minho didn’t get a letter(That like 6 people asked for.)

P.S. will be mainly going off the movies

Theory 1:

Minho already (kinda) got a letter.

We know in Newt’s letter he says to Thomas that it’s his first letter he wrote. In my mind though Minho got more of a note.

We know that Minho found Newt in the maze after his attempt. I kept thinking how did Minho know where to find Newt.

This is what the note looks like in my head:

Minho please know that what I did was not your fault and you did nothing wrong.I just don’t belong here and can not take it anymore. I hope on day you will be able to forgive me.

To some this may look like a letter but in my mind it’s way to short to be a letter and a little more like a note.

Theory 2:

Newt didn’t think he will live long enough to see Minho therefore give him a letter.

When Newt tells Thomas he has the flare it’s clear that Newt doesn’t believe or knows he has much time left.

If Newt didn’t believe he’ll ever see Minho again why would he write a letter just for him to never get it.

This is one kinda weak but whatever.

Theory 3:

Newt was writing a letter for Minho but never finished it or was at least planning on it.

When Thomas is sneaking out to go to The Last City. Newt and frypan are waiting for him.When Newt confronts Thomas about leaving there is a big pile of papers right next to him.

People believe that was Thomas’s letter. It could be.There is also enough paper there to make a second letter also.

Which makes me believe he was planning on writing a second letter or already started.

Theory 4:

Newt and Minho don’t need words to communicate.

Kinda like Thomas and Teresa(but not really) Newt and Minho don’t need words to communicate.

Through out the series we see how close the are.There are time when the two just simple look at each other and understands what the other is thinking/feeling.

When people get as close as Newt and Minho were sometimes they can communicate just through looks and facial expressions.

Maybe Newt didn’t write Minho a letter because Minho didn’t need one. Newt knew(or maybe hoped) that Minho would understand him and knew what Newt thought of Minho and there was no words unsaid or needed.

Those are all of my theories(for now) please lmk if I missed anything or what yall theories are.

Although it wasn’t easy taking those first steps with you into the world. But I’ve learnt that there are *Something covered up by Dylan’s thumb* chances in life. If I could do it all over again, I would, and I wouldn’t change a thing. My hope for you Tommy is that when you’re looking back years from now, you’ll be able to say the same thing.

I watched the movies before I read the books so when newt gave thomas a note in the books I was thinking 'I know where this is going 🤓☝️☝️☝️'

I READ THAT PART IN A PUBLIC PARK AND JUST SAT THERE FOR A GOOD 10 MINUTES WITH MY MOUTH OPEN PROCESSING

There are two types of people :

1= the ones who cry when they hear 'to my dear historia'

2= the ones who cry when they hear 'dear Thomas'

I love both notes so so much because they're both saying a lot about Newt as a character and as always I'm picking my favourite parts from both, movies and books, and so in my personal canon he definitely wrote both. The first note though, the cry for help, hurts so much more because Newt knows he can't do it himself, he already tried once and he failed and he's so scared that he'll fail again. He's scared that he'll hurt his friends. Minho, Frypan, Brenda. Tommy. And so he gives the note to Thomas. Because he knows Minho wouldn't do it. But he knows Thomas can do the right thing, and there's also a selfish part of himself that wants it to be Tommy. So he'll be the last thing he sees before closing his eyes forever.

I wrote a whole fic around that note and how it would affect the story if Newt gave it to Thomas in movie!verse

i'm always going to love newt's letter (like everyone else) and i need to cry every fucking time i listen to it because my heart breaks and it's perfect for the movie, but i also believe nothing beats the crushing, shocking feeling of emptiness the original note gives you.

it's just... so heartbreaking.

you feel as if your soul is leaving your body, there's no other way to put it. and perhaps it's not fair to compare them, because the context of the movie AND the book are very different.

the letter (movie) hurts the soul because it's a farewell, because it makes more real the fact that it's over, newt is no more and there's nothing to do. newt knew that thomas was going to take all the blame, he was going to torture himself with it, and he was no longer going to be there to help him with his soft and comforting words like he always was, so he wrote that hoping it would help thomas a little to start healing (if that's possible) and make him understand that he was going to be okay. seeks to give some kind of comfort, newt had already accepted what was going to happen to him. it's a goodbye, and one last attempt to offer his unconditional love and support to thomas.

the note (book) is the opposite.

the note doesn't seek to comfort at all, it's a cry for help. and thomas himself thinks so; how desperate must newt feel to write that, thinking that he had no other choice? and entrust the favor to thomas, of all people. you get chills when you read it because between those lines there's only despair and pain, and the first time you don't even expect it but it breaks your heart, because newt is fucking terrified of the disease that is going to drive him crazy and he's suffering, he's in panic and so, so scared, he'd rather die than turn into a monster. he doesn't seek to relieve thomas, to say that everything is fine. he desperately wants help.

and i know that several people wonder why he asked thomas and not minho; even though i feel it's kinda complicated, i think newt knew minho wouldn't dare to do something like that. and honestly, would newt have wanted to ask his best friend to end his life, if he didn't even want minho to see him lose his mind? i know i couldn't do that.
