Day 4 & 5: Candle & Urban Legend!

As it becomes more abundantly clear that I have no idea what I’m doing, let me distract you with pretty looking things- LOL

Day Four is Ann Kelly and Kid Blink, 2/3 OG Strike leaders before Jack and David! They’re not an official ship because I don’t believe in hindering y’alls creativity but they are definitely co-parenting Jack when he first joins.

Day Five is Spot cause he’s definitely an urban legend amongst newsies. And the song I picked kind of fits him in a modern au kind of way so it’s pretty fire.

Headcanons under the cut as always!

Ann Kelly and Kid Blink are the two strike leaders of the actual strike of 1899 and I thought it’d be nice to include them into the rewrite. As there had been newsie strikes before 1899, I’ve made these two leaders of a failed strike with David Simmons (The third OG Strike leader)

Ann co-parented Jack with Kid Blink after his parents died, they probably also co-parented Michael too before he died while the two were selling alone.

Ann and Kid Blink named Jack after the term “Jack of all trades” and Jack decided to take on Ann’s last name after Michael died.

Spot’s 15 in the rewrite, gaining his leadership at 12 because the dude organized a hit on the former leader because he sucked.

He’s really good friends with Smalls and Boots, surprisingly the three get along well but don’t get to spend a lot of time together as Spot is a workaholic.

The dude is SO ready to get the boroughs back to normal, he’s been working hard for three years, he needs a break.

Day Three: Cold Hands!

Ft. Leslie “Les” Jacobs!

He’s just the lil’ feller! He also wears pink like Davey, isn’t that cute! Anyways, today’s song doesn’t have any lyrics but I feel you all will enjoy it anyways.

Davey and Les look a lot more alike in the rewrite, only difference is the nose!

A lot of Les’ clothes are hand me downs, such as the clothes he’s wearing now! By the end, he gets enough money to buy a new shirt that’s blue like Jack’s.

I’m on the cusp of making him be the one to suggest a strike, in the same manner that Davey did. I think this would be a good change because it alludes to the fact that Les knows what’s going on, and I’d like for him to explain it was something he read with his father in the paper as he was refining his reading comprehension and such!

Day Two: Ouiji Board

Happy Rosh Hashanah, Shana Tovah to all my Jewish buddies out there! Day two I’ve decided to do the Delancey brothers, they’re tryna contact a loved one!

Morris is older by a few years, and he was born on a farm that his parents lived on before they moved to NYC, where Oscar was born!

They both know they have an older cousin, Otto, but they haven’t met him yet and their Uncle Wiesel wouldn’t talk about him.

They don’t live with Wiesel. They live in an extremely small apartment that only Wiesel has the key to, the two don’t have much time to themselves.

Happy Newsiestober!

Day One: Magic

So I didn’t exactly think of anything halloweenie to go with Newsietober this year.. but my plan is to draw things to a song that goes with the prompt! So here’s Javey to This Magic Moment by The Drifters!

Is Javey canon in the Rewrite? No, because I’m homophobic. /joking (It’s actually just because no relationships are canon so y’all can do whatever you guys want with shipping!)

After Jack left his apartment, David got so mad that they seemingly just “clicked.” He never expected himself to like or hang around a person like Jack, but it just felt too right to quit selling papers after a day.. and he did have to pay Jack back.. didn’t he?

When Jack scabbed, Davey decided to stay a night in the Lodgehouse, some of the newsies covering for him. He slept in Jack’s bed and spent most of the night comforting newsies, especially Racetrack, who wasn’t ready to lead so abruptly.
