No no, Endgame didn’t touch comic canon or anything of the like. I’m sure at some point they’ll try, mind you. But for now, I steered away from whatever latest issues Marvel has out. Honestly? Marvel hasn’t been doing so hot with their comics lately, anyhow. They focus more on their movies; the comics haven’t caught steam in a handful of years now. No no, it wasn’t the latest I was getting into today. I actually binged on a lot of the past.

You see, on my days off, I tend to spend a lot of time in the library. My county actually has six libraries that I float between; all have a fantastic “graphic novel” section. And I finally decided to dive into the world of the Avengers comics. I desperately needed a brain-cleansing of the trash we saw on screen.

From the old ass 70′s original to the newish late 2010′s+, I read through the huge stack of issues and even a large-ass ultimatum guide. I read through a ton of different team iterations, some having characters I’ve only seen and never even heard of.

And you know what I discovered? Despite the Avengers always changing, always having new members, always disbanding to come back together...

THEY WERE ALWAYS A GODDAMN TEAM.

There was camaraderie. Struggle. Friendship. Love/hate dynamics.  Everything, absolutely everything I wanted to see from the moment Avengers (Assemble) ended with Tony showing those blueprints of the different rooms in the tower and the beginning of Age of Ultron with the afterparty.

So how did Endgame ruin this for me? Because I found myself barely able to enjoy any of it. I found myself reading through all these glorious stories of the Avengers with this chip on my shoulder because right there, right there was the source material for them to leech off of and what did they do? What did they give us instead?

Whatever the hell Endgame was.

Kiddo and I are watching Advent Children for shits and giggles.  Also because I’ve not yet watched this on our newish DVD player - got a 4K one last year with tax refund money, woot.  The display is sharp as hell, and honestly this is just making me thirsty for the remake.

Randomly wondering though, why there is such (general) hate for Advent Children.  I mean, I get that it’s not everyone’s bag, and man, it WAS full of plot holes - but hell, lots of things are, to be honest.  I still can’t figure out what the fuck happened on either Twin Peaks or Lost, for instance.  But I still enjoyed both of those shows thoroughly, even if I couldn’t explain or figure out every little nuance or find every single Easter egg.  

Anyhow, just going to watch and enjoy.  It’s nice to finally have an evening to sit back and relax.

I am pretty sure as well, but I am not a hickey gate person.  I was around for that whole thing.  But I honestly think it was from doing the rotational lift.  Even though I was convinced that they were together at the time (and I am still convinced).  Tessa does not strike me as someone that would be that careless, not even in the heat of the moment.

Banks got attacked by another dog today. And before anyone worries- he’s okay. He didn’t get hurt, but it was a scary situation.

I was walking him at this popular park next to the ocean, and I noticed a couple of acquaintances of my boyfriend walking around with their two dogs. The first dog, a blue heeler, I already knew was partially DA due to trauma from an attack it suffered when it was a puppy. The other one was a black mixed breed, and I was *told* that she was dog friendly.

Anyhow, when I took Banks over to meet the black mixed breed gal (her name is Fraulein), the blue heeler started getting really agitated and began growling and barking. So, I walked Banks a distance away to give the heeler some space, and Fraulein was walked over with us. After that, everything seemed okay. I didn’t really notice anything off about her body language, but when Banks walked over to sniff her, Fraulein didn’t react well.

Fraulein began snarling, chasing, and snapping at Banks. It was all very sudden. Her handler had her on one of those retractable leashes so when she started chasing him, she tangled her leash around me multiple times and I couldn’t get free to gain control of the situation. Fraulein’s handler didn’t even seem to understand what was going on or that she was exhibiting aggressive body language. In hindsight I’m kind of peeved that he didn’t immediately jump in when he noticed his dog was snarling, but it is what it is now. 

Anyhow, Banks was just trying to get away- but since he was on a leash there really wasn’t anywhere for him to go. So he stopped running away and for the first time EVER, I saw him turn around and exhibit some sort of hostility towards another dog. He barred his teeth at her and for a moment I was SO sure that they were going to fight each other- but then at that moment the guy finally got control over his dog and pulled her away. 

Like, holy shit. That was scary. I’m still not sure why everything happened the way it did. Maybe the heeler’s reaction put Fraulein on edge? I’m not sure if I believe them anymore about Fraulein being dog friendly (can you blame me) and after talking to one of them, they told me that they’ve been fostering her, so she’s newish. 

I am so thankful that nothing bad happened to Banks. I would never have put him in that situation had I known this would have happened. It was just all so sudden. I don’t wanna say that Fraulein “snapped”, because perhaps a keener eye could have caught onto something I missed as far as behavior goes, but there was definitely a shift in her demeanor when Banks approached.

Banks ended up brushing the situation off pretty well though- we met two other dogs on our walk and he acted like his regular old friendly self with them.

Oz is back! At the worst possible time.

I’ve got good news! Through Inter-Library Loan, I’ve finally picked up the final book of the Obsidian and Blood trilogy! And it’s got a cool title: Master of the House of Darts.

Anyhow.

Willow is officially out of the closet.

And I must say I liked this episode a lot more than the last one, in part because it advanced the actual plot and made it look like we’re actually going somewhere.

So Willow and Tara are getting somewhat serious. Tara is talking about the two of them adopting a cat, and she’s been hanging out with the group more and more. They have one of the Scooby meetings to point out that absolutely nothing is happening on Buffy’s patrols (though Riley says the Initiative is bagging more and more monsters), when Oz shows up.

Yup.

Oz is back, he’s apparently been around the world and learned in Tibet how to suppress his lycanthropy during a full moon. And now that he’s in town, he wants to get back with Willow, who was the reason he went on this quest anyways. And since Xander told Oz that Willow isn’t seeing a new guy, he assumes that Willow’s available. So of course there’s awkwardness as Willow now has feelings for Tara, and Tara feels as if she’s just in the way of Willow being happy with Oz, so everyone’s a nervous wreck.

It’s when Willow discusses the mess with Buffy that Buffy realizes that Willow’s in love with Tara.

But this isn’t just a soap opera, so a squad from the Initiative is attacked by some fuzzy monster. And Riley’s skeptical of the idea of anyone dating a werewolf, which leads to a conversation about him thinking all monsters are bad, and Buffy’s emotional about this because Oz is her friend but also Angel.

Oh and Spike is approached by Adam. See Adam wants his help with something, and it involves pretending to help the Slayer, and in return Adam promises to remove the chip from Spike’s head that prevents him from feeding on people. Spike agrees.

When Oz finds out that Tara and Willow are a thing (he meets Tara in the hallway and realizes Willow’s scent is all over her), he gets very emotional, and actually wolfs out--in the day. In a hallway of the college. Tara runs away, but werewolf Oz is captured by the Initiative.

Riley wants to kill him, but when he morphs back into Oz, Riley reconsiders his whole position, and tells them to stop being dickish. The rest of the Initiative wants to keep running experiments on him though, and they do so, showing how if they taze him he turns back into a werewolf. Because this is what happens when you let the government do stuff.

I was going somewhere that wasn’t an anti-government rant…

Oh right so while Riley is being detained for having questionable loyalty, told he’s a traitor to the US government if he doesn’t stay in line. Buffy and the Scoobs work on a plan to break out Oz. But just then Spike shows up and offers to help them sneak in the back. So they do that. They break out Riley too, who defects from the Initiative.

Oz decides that his werewolf-ism is often activated by his feelings for Willow, so he buzzes off. And now Willow and Tara are together, yay.

-I’m going to take this opportunity to say how much I hate the look of werewolves on this show? They don’t look wolfish. Or canine really, at all. They just look like fuzzy people in grumpy masks. It’s worse than the Supernatural werewolves, I think, because we had decent suits when the show started.

-Okay, Joss, you’re telling me that in less than a year, Oz has been to Mexico, went across the ocean to Tibet, and mastered some form of meditation or calmness or spiritual juju that represses his lycanthropy? I...no, I don’t really buy that. I would think something along those lines would take much longer to master, and it’d take more than a few months for Oz to even find someone who was willing to teach him that. Stephen Strange only found the Ancient One as quickly as he did because he was a world-renowned surgeon with connections and was able to look up a miraculous recovery, which he used to find a guy to get a reference to the Ancient One. I know maybe we’re supposed to believe that Oz is just so chill of a guy that it wasn’t hard for him, but...nah, I think that’s a bit lazy.

I would have been more open to the idea if he’d gone out east and found a group of other werewolves who taught it to him, like when Ruby is taught how to control her wolf form in Once Upon a Time?

Really, from the beginning there was one red Honda Fit I was really drawn to, with low mileage and no accident history. I assumed it was too good to be av serious offer, probably a bait-and-switch or already sold. I sent out a flurry of emails asking that dealership and others for test drives or at least to inspect the vehicles. Many promising leads were quickly eliminated but the Honda  stayed in play. I’ve also been juggling jobs, insurance issues from the accident and a thousand other things... but I wanted a look at that one car. I had the afternoon off today and the dealership was within ten miles of my house. I’m tired from a late night and a bit beaten down from the week in general, but I thought what the hell, I’d enlist a family member with a sensitive BS detector and more experience negotiating these sorts of things and go see if that car was really available.

The car was the first thing I saw approaching the lot. Beautiful little car. I went to the door of the dealership and was greeted by a friendly black dog (a lab-golden retriever hybrid, as I later learned). The dog had a fox toy in his mouth, I shit you lot. He escorted me inside. I’ve recently had a favorite Golden Retriever client (I walk dogs-- among many other things I do-- for a living) move out of the area and I still miss him keenly. So I chose to see the dog and the fox as good omens. Really, it beats this cursed feeling I’ve had for the past year or so, 

The dog’s owner welcomed me inside and told me the car was still available, could be financed and the low mileage was legit. The previous owners were an older couple who traded it in for a newer model, and were apparently retired and never drove much, so it had less than 4,000 miles on it. I was immediately offered an unsupervised test drive. I’ve been a nervous driver since the accident but everything was great. I made an offer. We worked out a payment plan. My cynical side thinks this was all too easy, and I should point out that I am predominately a skeptic and agnostic in spite of bouts of magical thinking. So there might still be another shoe to drop. But it looks like I’m getting the car I wanted from the start, much sooner than expected. As long as I keep my current gigs I should be able to swing the payments. It’ll be tough and I may have to sacrifice and sell some possessions or memorabilia, but I can start getting my life back on track.

Since it’s the 10th of January, and the first anniversary of a very painful day for a lot of us, Muse-wise, I think I’ll probably give the new car an unofficial name referencing Bowie in some way. Got to thinking while at work (dishwasher) why the suck sucks and why you should embrace it. I've heard all kinds of things about the suck, like: embrace it, this sucks, and don't do that with the vacuum; but I believe I've had my suck epiphany. The world isn't, never was, and never will be perfect, and I know this. So while I was washing those dishes, thinking about how it sucked, I realized it's supposed to. It's sucks because it has to. If I didn't have to wash dishes they wouldn't be dirty, meaning no food, no customers, no money spent, no business, no job anyhow. So the sucky point being, if it sucks the flip-side should be excellent. Don't wanna workout? Maybe skip leg day? Enjoy your prison bod. Anything worth doing involves work doing. I'm surely not the first to understand this, but it just happened to hit me earlier. To conclude, the job may suck, but it has to be done, and if I quit it does nothing for me but soften me up. Can't have that.
