I think 3 is my max too. When I was still living with my parents, we did 4 for awhile, and it was ok with a full family to contribute to their care. While my max is 3, I think my preference is 2. I liked just having Truly and Mud when I was living alone. Having three temporarily this year was...ok. I think I have a harder time giving attention to everyone when there are more than two. A better age gap between everyone would help too. Like 5-ish years between each dog. Not 1-3 between them because then I have to wait forever to get the next dog and everyone else is elderly. New dogs and elderly dogs are both a lot of work.

Boredom ask: there’s someone on Instagram with a pack of—ten, I think?—dachshunds. How many dachshunds is too many for you?

Oh yeah I'm FB friends with multiple people who have a gajillion dachshunds. Very much a "you can't have just one" breed. They're small and portable and don't eat much, so it's easy to collect them.

For me, as much as I joke about being the person with fifteen dachshunds and five shepherds and a collie, three dogs in total is my limit. I've dogsat six dogs, ten dogs, and twelve dogs, and all of those are waaaaay too many dogs for me. Far too stressful. I quite enjoyed my time taking Bindi, Kermit, and Too out on adventures and training outings, so three is a good limit for me.

So to specifically answer your question-- I think two dachshunds is the perfect number of dachshunds for me.

Other adjectives don't get elided into "dog." Why would "hot" be some kind of exception? It's not "smalldog" or "blackdog" or "newdog." And it's not "hotdog," either.

We have several visitors coming tomorrow to the sanctuary! It will be a busy day! Bernard expects for you to pet him first and pretty much only him. Be ready!
