"disturbed, depressed, inadequate": Edward Cullen & George Costanza, cringefail twinsies
as we all know, Twilight and Seinfeld are canonically set in the same universe. we see blatant clues scattered throughout both series. (e.g., Stephenie Meyer prefacing New Moon with the entirety of Jerry Seinfeld's opening stand-up from season 4's "The Outing;" Jerry making a Twilight reference in "The Soup" episode of Seinfeld, etc.) most notably, we see Edward Cullen & George Costanza's personalities mirror each other in a way that extends far beyond "pure" "coincidence." upon closer examination, they are the same person in parallel universes.
the two are, canonically, absolute losers seemingly broken beyond repair, self-saboteurs who waffle between moments of self-aggrandizement and self-loathing. their negative self-image, insecurities, & belief that they do not deserve love are recurring themes in their respective series.
among other things, George describes himself as "disturbed, depressed, inadequate," ("The Visa," S04) "completely insecure, paranoid, [and] neurotic" ("The Beard," S06). he is the self-proclaimed "Lord of the Idiots" ("The Apartment," S02) who is sure of only one thing: "There is no bigger loser than me" ("The Strike," S09).
in the Twilight Saga, Edward repeatedly calls himself "selfish" & a "monster." in Midnight Sun, he's a "coward" (37), "evil" (374) & an "obsessed stalker" (94). clearly depressed in the way he describes his "long melancholy" (138) as "an unending, unchanging midnight" (136), he quickly pinpoints the feelings behind his hatred for Bella: "What I really hated was myself" (26). his distaste for Mike Newton & jealousy of Jacob Black stem from his insecurity, while his paranoia has him assuming, among other things, that a meteor will crash down & bonk Bella out of existence (131). Edward's telepathy has him always on the alert for intruders, resulting in baseless conclusions. "Idiot," Rose calls him (97, 129, 145, 202, 314). idiot, indeed.
Edward & George's low self-esteem compel them to lie, unable to live up to the perceived expectations of others. after Edward saves Bella from a car accident, he lies to her to keep her away. "I had a show to put on now. I knew the role I would playâI had the character down: I would be the villain. I would lie and ridicule and be cruel" (MS, 90). beyond shielding her from his true nature, he is shielding her from a deeper truth: "I didn't deserve any link, any claim to her at all" (728). that is, Edward does not consider himself worthy of Bella's love. he even point-blank admits it to her at prom: "I'm not worth it." (782)
George, too, struggles to live up to assumed perceptions: âYou see, this is what I do with women. I start out too strong, now I have to become real. That's when it all falls apart. What good is real?" ("The Visa," S04) like Edward, he engages in deceptive tactics throughout the series to keep his partners at arm's length, from creating falsehoods about himself to preventing his fiancĂ©e from fraternizing with his friends & entering his world. ("The Pool Guy," S07) Edward, more succinct, sends Bella the same message in New Moon: "My world is not for you." (37)
in fact, one of the few traits George & Edward possess that is not negatively regarded is their ability to lie. Edward's declaration that "I was not an incompetent liar" (MS, 77) seems an understatement when, not 10 pages later, he says, "Perhaps I was too good a liar if I could fool Carlisle" (85). he claims to feel guilty; then again, Bella often notes him lying outright or by omission in the series.
"I lie every second of my life," George brags in season 2's "The Apartment." "My whole life is a sham." other characters acknowledge & praise this ability. in the episode "The Beard" (S06), Jerry begs George to help him beat a polygraph test, calling his ability "a gift." just as Edward dramatizes his lying to "putting on a show," George likens his talent to singing opera: "It's like saying to Pavarotti, 'Teach me to sing like you.'" the advice he gives Jerry aptly sums up George's philosophy: "It's not a lie if you believe it." how fitting that this is the mindset Edward employs to stay in Bella's life a little longer.
George & Edward's relationships not only showcase their ability to lie but follow similar paths. George faces Edward's exact dilemma: the choice to deny his nature (to the point of becoming vegetarian!) for an attractive woman in "The Secretary" episode of season 6. "You're luscious," he says to a beautiful applicant for an open secretary position. "You're ravishing. I would give up red meat just to get a glimpse of you in a bra." George chooses not to hire the attractive secretary... but ends up sleeping with his 'unattractive' secretary anyway. Edward, meanwhile, does the opposite: he chooses vegetarianism and to date the object of his affection, albeit with personal turmoil. where Edward chooses to be the man, George chooses to be the monster.
unsurprisingly, however, their low self-esteem is a frequent barrier to their romantic pursuits. these insecurities even lead them to preemptively decide to break up with their significant other. in George's case, the breakup in season 3's "The Pez Dispenser" is a means for him to protect himself & regain control:
âA preemptive breakup. This is an incredible idea. I got nothing to lose. We either break up, which she would do anyway, but at least I go out with some dignity.â
Edward seemingly breaks up with Bella to protect her. he knows he will leave her by page 368 of Midnight Sun. by page 746, he admits he's lying when he swears he won't leave her. "[T]he time would come, I was sure now, when I would have to convince her [I didn't want her]" (747). best-case scenario, he thinks, she will outgrow him (781), though it's clear she intends on forever. despite the evidence from Alice that Bella will be a catatonic mess, he leaves...several months later, after a near-fatal brush with Jasper. one might argue Edward's fear of love & intimacy leads him to break up with her as a means to protect himself from the harsh reality that she will die.
ultimately, George & Edward's failures in physical & emotional intimacy are rooted, at least in part, in an aversion to sex.
for both, the desire to feed presents a barrier to their lovemaking. Edward is unable to prolong his kisses with Bella, citing his thirst. he compares himself to "an alcoholic" & Bella to "a glass of hundred-year-old brandy, the rarest, finest cognac..." (Twilight, 13). similarly, in season 9's "The Blood," George finds he is always hungry around his partner & can't make love to her without eating. his attempt to introduce strawberries, chocolate sauce, & pastrami on rye into the bedroom snowballs into him sneaking sandwiches into bed. though George, unlike Edward, can satiate himself without murdering his girlfriend, his desire to feed still leads to his demise.
this aversion to sex extends beyond a conflict with their baser selves, however. we see George & Edward's insecurities & low self-esteem take a central role in their inability to engage in intimate relations.
âI don't like when a woman says, âMake love to me,â" says George in season 3's "The Stranded." "It's intimidating. The last time a woman said that to me, I wound up apologizing to her.â
this quote perfectly encapsulates Edward & Bella's wedding night. despite being intimidated by Bella's demand for sex, Edward acquiesces. upon discovering he bruised Bella, Edward confirms his worst fears, calls himself a monster, and says: "I'm...so sorry, Bella. [...] I am more sorry than I can tell you" (Breaking Dawn, 61). he then promises, "I will not make love with you until you've been changed. I will never hurt you again." (66)
oddly enough, the bleak outlook Edward takes on his sex life (i.e., not possible (Twilight, 147) & unrealistic (Eclipse, 299)) mirrors George's feelings re: sexual intimacy in "The Pony Remark" (S02):
âYou know, I've been thinking. I cannot envision any circumstances in which I'll ever have the opportunity to have sex again. How's it gonna happen? I just don't see how it could occur.â
is this aversion to intimacy with women a product of George & Edward being queer-coded characters? even if Edward didn't worship the ground on which Carlisle "the soul of [the] family" (MS, 96) walked to the point where he hopes his face resembles Carlisle's "perfect" one (24, 387), he constantly thinks of his creator & tries to live up to Carlisle's perception of him (28, 347, 383, 387). this seems innocuous enough until we consider the fact that the vampire genre itself has queer roots. vampires have always served as a symbol for social outcasts; homosexual depictions, from the 1872 novel Carmilla to the 2020s reboot of Interview with a Vampire, are a common feature of the genre. through this lens, the virginal Edward Cullen pushing away his heterosexual partner while he envisions Carlisle's face takes on different connotations.
George, deeply in denial of his sexuality, upholds odd "rules" to avoid being seen as gay, from refusing to sit "boy-boy-girl" in a car ("The Ex-Girlfriend," S02), to reminding Jerry of his "unblemished record of staunch heterosexuality" before declaring Jerry's new jacket "fabulous." (his singing show tunes throughout "The Jacket" (S02)Â still earns him the title of gay by another character, however.) he frequently goes into a gay panic: from being called out on his attraction to Jerry ("The Cartoon," S09), to being accused of falling in love with his friend Tony ("The Stall," S05), to being explicitly labeled as Jerry's romantic partner in season 4's "The Outing," he responds to challenges to his heterosexuality with anger, anxiety, dismay, & denial. he even shouts "IT [his penis] MOVED!" in response to being touched by an attractive male masseuse ("The Masseuse," S05). regardless of whether George may be gay or bisexual, George's record of "staunch heterosexuality" seems not as "unblemished" as he would like us to believe.
given all the similarities, one might think the biggest difference is their species: Edward is a mindreading vampire and George is a human. but George does note having an advanced sense of perception akin to Edward's telepathy: "I was personable, I was bright. [...] I was perceptive. I always know when someone's uncomfortable at a party" ("The Opposite," S05). additionally, while George may not be a literal vampire, he does have a parasitic nature. cheap & selfish, he frequently mooches off his friends & leaves them footing the bill. he also lies & manipulates for his own gain, including but not limited to faking a disability to have access to his own private bathroom at work ("The Butter Shave," S09), setting up a fake charity to avoid buying Christmas presents for his coworkers ("The Strike," S09), & falsifying statements to extend his unemployment benefits ("The Boyfriend, Part 1," S03). leeching off of others & the community is a hallmark of vampirism.
ultimately, the uncanny parallels between these two characters are impossible to ignore. George & Edward seem indeed the same person mirrored into different universes. so, what does this say about their creator(s)? this "coincidence" naturally begs the question: Are Jerry Seinfeld and Stephenie Meyer the same person? in Part 2 of this essay, we explâ

the girl is mine (Agatha Harkness x Reader)
Summary: When your fascination with Mayor Agatha Harkness becomes all consuming, what lengths will you go to in order to get her attention?
Word Count: 3.2K
A/N: Helloooo, this is a fun little one shot Iâve had sitting in my drive for a while and I finally got around to finishing it. Title & fic idea are both heavily inspired by Ariana Grandeâs music video âthe boy is mineâ. Agatha has been consuming my every waking thought lately, so I hope you enjoy this fun au! Let me know what you think, my asks/dmâs are always open!
Growing up you never showed much interest in politics, and you certainly could never name more than a few politicians off the top of your head. It was dull, and you failed to find a group of white men who were knocking on deathâs door to be riveting. But all of that changed with the election for the new mayor. In the past, you were vaguely aware of upcoming elections, and tried to remember to vote. But you never actively followed a campaign; at least, not until her.Â
The her in question being Agatha Harkness, newly elected mayor of New York City. Being the only daughter of the former long-time U.S. Senator Evanora Harkness, politics was in her blood. Running a cutthroat campaign full of promises to clean up the city and help its residents, all whilst viciously annihilating her opponents one by one in debate, she quickly became the candidate to back. Posters of her face were plastered over every crevice of the city; with her perfectly messy dark brown curls, plump red lips, pristinely bright white smile, and lustrous blue eyes it was no surprise you became hooked.Â
You followed the campaign at a slightly obsessive level, tuning into every debate and press briefing, even having notifications for Agatha Harkness enabled on every platform hoping for a glimpse of the woman who had slowly taken over your every waking thought. She was brilliant, and she had absolutely no idea you existed.Â
At least, not yet.Â
A few months after the election, Mayor Harkness appeared to be following through on her campaign promises. Unemployment was at a record low, there were different initiatives to help funding for the public school system, even crime and gang activity became nearly nonexistent.Â
However there were rumblings from various journalists that perhaps the mayor wasnât as perfect as she appeared to be. A few reports were suggesting that instead of eradicating the crime syndicates that had been plaguing the city for decades, she had merely moved operations underground. Others hinted that perhaps she had something to do with her motherâs rather mysterious and sudden death. But that was absurd, you thought to yourself as you watched the mayor on your television screen, her bright blue eyes twinkling back at you as she answered a few questions.Â
Potion making had never been your speciality, as you were still fairly inexperienced in most realms of magic, but you froze as Agatha gave a sly wink when being asked how she kept crime rates lowered. Stirring the cauldron with renewed vigor, the pink fumes filled the room as you inhaled.
Your eyes drifted over to the outfit you had hung on the outside of your closet, briefly wondering if the plan you had concocted was too unhinged. But the mayorâs authoritative voice caught your attention once more as you turned back to the screen.
âYes, you,â Agatha motioned to one of the eager reporters holding their hands up.Â
âMadam Mayor, how do you respond to allegations that you accepted illegal campaign donations from some of the top crime families in the city?âÂ
The mayor didnât appear to be phased by the question, pursing her lips as she frowned. âWell, Iâd say that sounds like yet another baseless claim from the mediaâs fruitless attempts to discredit my accomplishments. The witch hunts didnât stop in Salem, did they?âÂ
The clamor of dozens of reporters resulted in the mayor waving her hand to decline any other questions, leaving the press briefing room with her team in tow. Shutting off your tv, you glanced back at the outfit, a feeling of determination washing over you.Â
Popping the cork off the vial, you carefully poured the liquid in the bottle. Pretty soon the only thought on the mayorâs mind would be your name.Â
After all, what could possibly go wrong?
The next morning, you were out the door before the sun was over the horizon, running through the plan again in your head with your destination clear in mind. You had come up with the idea late one night while researching the effects of various love potions. It was risky, sure, but you had taken the time to perfect this particular potion, leaving no room for error.
The rest of the plan was rather reliant on your ability to trick the mayorâs staff into thinking you were a reporter, but hey, using a few charming spells wasnât unethical if it was in the name of love, right?
By the time you made it to the mayorâs office you were already having second thoughts. Could you go to jail for impersonating a reporter?Â
Unfortunately, you had run out of time to turn around as the friendly looking older woman sitting at the front desk waved you over. Approaching her, you ran through what you had practiced saying in the shower. Quickly looking at the personalized name plate on the edge of her desk, you gave her a wide smile.
âGood morning, Sharon. I have an appointment scheduled this morning with Mayor Harkness,â you greeted the receptionist, keeping any trace of nervousness from your tone.
âOh, an appointment?â Sharon asked, appearing to be confused as she looked at her computer, clicking around with her mouse. âI hate these things, I can never find what Iâm looking for. Do you know what never has silly malfunctions? A nice, simple day planner.â
Raising your eyebrows, you nodded along. âOf course. Very reliable.â
Sharon nodded in agreement, still struggling with her computer. âExactly. Iâve tried explaining that to the mayor but she just waves me away to get her more tea.â She paused, frowning at whatever was on the screen. âIâm not seeing any appointments for this morning. What did you say your name was again?â
Internally sighing, and hoping you had learned this particular spell correctly, you discreetly waved your left hand, mumbling the incantation under your breath. You had never tried an enchantment before, but the spellbook made it appear to be simple enough. As long as you said the right words and had your intention clear in your mind it would work. It had to.
Clearing your throat, you gave her another bright smile. âIâm sure if you check your calendar again, it will have me marked down for an appointment with the mayor. Iâm here for a last minute interview.âÂ
Sharon blinked, and her eyes appeared hazier than they were a moment prior, signaling your spell had worked. Looking back at her computer, she gave you a mindless smile. âOh of course! This silly computer. Right this way, Iâll take you to the mayor.â
Following the receptionist down the hallway, you made note of how the enchantment did not appear to make any obvious changes, at least not outwardly. You did feel a slight twinge of guilt at manipulating someone without magic, but those thoughts were expelled from your brain as you saw the woman who had bewitched you from the first moment you saw her.
Agatha Harkness was leaning against her open office door, a sly grin on her face as she chatted with a nervous looking employee. Her long dark brown hair was messily splayed across her shoulders, and you could picture running your fingers through it.
With one hand cocked on her hip, and the other tucked in the pocket of her expensive looking purple slacks, you felt your breath hitch. This was really happening.
After a few moments, Agatha looked over at you and her receptionist, and she waved the employee away as she frowned.Â
âShannon, who do we have here?â Agatha curiously asked, looking you up and down.
You frowned, wasnât her name Sharon?
Sharon didnât appear to notice, as she mindlessly smiled. âThe reporter for your interview is here, Madam Mayor.â
The mayorâs frown deepened, looking between you and her receptionist. âI thought I told you to clear my schedule this morning. I donât remember agreeing to any more interviews.â
âItâs the only appointment scheduled for this morning,â Sharon insisted, and you prayed to whatever deity that was listening that your spell didnât wear off too soon. âI must have forgotten to mention it to you.â
Agatha hummed, a thoughtful expression on her face as her gaze remained fixated on her receptionist. âI see.â She finally looked back over in your direction, curiously eyeing you. âI suppose I can spare a few minutes. Thank you, Shannon, that will be all.â
Sharon, or maybe Shannon, walked back to her desk and Agatha held her hand out, gesturing for you to enter her office. You tentatively walked through the doors, as the mayor followed closely behind, shutting the doors shut.
The mayorâs office wasnât quite what you had expected. It was a lot bigger than you pictured, and the longer you looked around the more you wondered how it was this size. Large violet tinted drapes hung from the windows, and you were momentarily stunned from the view this high up.Â
You knew from various interviews that the mayor was an avid reader, so you were unsurprised to find floor to ceiling rows of bookshelves lining three of the four walls. However, you were surprised to find some of them appeared rather old, and you werenât close enough to read the titles but you managed to make note that a good chunk of them appeared to be in Latin.
âYou can take a seat,â Agatha said cordially, walking past you to her desk. âLetâs try and make this snappy.â
Taking a step forward, you pulled one of the chairs out, but in the process of sitting down, the vial of potion you had in your pocket came tumbling out, crashing on the ground as the glass broke, spilling the contents all over the floor.Â
Shit.
âIâm so sorry, I forgot I had that in my pocket,â you quickly apologized, trying to think of a somewhat convincing story. âYou know how delicate perfume bottles can be.â
âPerfume?â Agatha repeated, tilting her head as she examined you, a calculated expression on her face as the frown lines on her forehead deepened.
âYes. ItâsâŠFrench,â you offered, avoiding eye contact as you cleared your throat. This was a horrible idea.
Agatha frowned, intrigue coloring her features as she eyed the now broken vial of potion. âI seeâŠwhat publication did you say you were from again?â
âThe Times,â you lied, straightening your posture as she turned her attention back to you. âItâs actually my first day.â
Raising her eyebrows, the mayor sat back in her seat. âYou donât say, and they sent you to interview me? How ambitious.â
âIâve been following your career for a while,â you prompted, brainstorming ways to possibly salvage this opportunity. âThe work youâve done for the city is quite admirable.â
âAdmirable?â Agatha scoffed, folding her arms across her chest. âI canât say Iâve been hearing a lot of that from your esteemed peers.â
âWell, some people hate to watch a woman be successful in a position of power,â you offered, and your answer appeared to appease the mayor, as she gave you a curt nod. âBesides, itâs not like you actually did any of those things, people love making up stories.â
You werenât sure if it was the lighting in the office or your imagination, but there was a brief flash of something on the mayorâs face. If you didnât know any better, you would say she seemed amused at what you said. But that was ridiculous, right?Â
âOf course,â Agatha answered, slowly licking her lips. âWhy donât we get started?â
It was then that reality set in. You hadnât anticipated actually having to ask the mayor any questions, the potion would have already kicked in at this point. Unfortunately, Agatha observed your hesitation as she let out a deep sigh, and you could tell she was growing more annoyed.
âYou know, most journalists send over their questions beforehand,â Agatha informed you, giving you an inscrutable glance as you nervously fumbled around. âIâm a very busy woman, despite what certain media outlets are spewing out.â
âI apologize, Madam Mayor. I donât want to waste any of your time,â you insisted, wondering yet again why you thought this plan would work to begin with.
Agatha opened her mouth to say something else, but hesitated for a moment, giving you another inquisitive stare. âVery well, I suppose not everyone can be Christiane Amanpour, hm?â
Christiane Amanpour? The name sounded relatively familiar, but you couldnât place where you had heard it from.Â
âYou know, the world renowned journalist?â Agatha added on, deep blue eyes boring into your own, and you quickly nodded.
âOf course, Iâm such a big fan of her work,â you gushed, but in the back of your mind you had a sinking feeling this wasnât going the way you hoped it would.
âIâm sure you are,â Agatha mused, and there was something in her words that led you to believe perhaps this was going worse than you were imagining. âHow about I ask my assistant to make us some tea? That always helps calm my nerves.â
She was so kindhearted, you noted, feeling yourself relax again as you nodded in agreement. The responding grin Agatha gave you sent a shiver down your spine.. Maybe you could make this work. Sure, you werenât actually a journalist at The Times and Agatha would eventually realize that when no story came out, but that was a problem for the future. You barely paid attention as Agatha made a quick call to her assistant, but after she hung up you refocused.
âI have to tell you, Sharon was very helpful this morning,â you said honestly, still feeling some lingering guilt over using an enchantment on her.Â
âWhoâs Sharon?â Agatha deadpanned, giving you a puzzled look.Â
For a moment you thought she was joking as you let out a nervous, quiet laugh, until you realized she was being serious.
âUm, your assistant?âÂ
âOh, Shannon?â Agatha corrected you, waving her hand dismissively. âShe does what sheâs told. A bit too chatty for my personal taste.â
You tried to hide the surprise from your face as you processed what the mayor said. That was a bit strange, but maybe the receptionistâs nameplate was wrong? After all, Agatha was so good. All the work she had been doing for the city, you knew she genuinely cared about helping people. Right?
âOf course, my mistake,â you said quietly, awkwardly crossing your legs.
Sharon, or Shannon, came in a few moments later with two cups of tea. Her eyes were still slightly glazed over, but the enchantment would surely wear off soonâŠprobably. Actually, you werenât sure how long the spell would last. But she would be fineâŠprobably.
When you were alone again, Agatha let out a low chuckle, and you frowned. You didnât say any of that out loud, right?
âOh donât mind me, dear,â Agatha said, giving you another charming smile and you felt your worries instantly slip away as she held out one of the cups. âTea?âÂ
The mayorâs lithe fingers brushed against yours as you accepted the cup, and you let out an involuntary shiver at the lingering contact. Slowly withdrawing her hand, Agatha smirked at the flush you could feel spreading across your cheeks. Raising her own cup to her lips, you were entranced watching her ruby red lips part as she took a small sip.Â
Following her lead, you lifted your cup, but hesitated. The teaâs sweet aroma invaded your senses as you inhaled, and for a moment the scent smelled oddly familiar. You werenât usually a tea drinker, you preferred coffee, but it was odd, the longer you allowed the scent to settle the more you wondered what was in it.Â
Looking up, you found Agatha watching you again, her cup lowered back on her desk as she surveyed you.Â
âIs the tea not to your liking?â The mayor asked, appearing genuinely concerned.
âNo, it smells great,â you insisted, raising the cup closer to your lips.
Her blue eyes were so warm and inviting, and she gave you a small encouraging nod, enticing you to take a sip. The warm liquid was as sweet as it had smelled, almost too sweet, you noted, allowing it to swirl around your mouth as you swallowed.Â
âGood girl,â Agatha murmured, so quietly you barely heard her.
Blinking, you felt the room begin to spin as you struggled to make sense of what was happening. The sickeningly sweet taste lingered in your mouth as you felt your body grow heavier with every breath you let out. You barely heard the crash of your teacup hit the floor as your hands fell to your sides.Â
Your eyes struggled to remain open as you attempted to fight whatever was happening to you, but felt firm hands hold you in place.
âDonât fight it, pet, Iâd hate to have Shannon clean up even more of a mess,â Agatha whispered in your ear as everything went dark.
The throbbing of your headache was the first thing you were aware of as you finally came to, eyes fluttering open. There was a dull ache that seemed to run through your entire body, and you struggled to recognize your surroundings. It was then you realized why you felt a dull ache, as you came to the startling realization your body was suspended midair, hands and feet bound.Â
Were you still dreaming?Â
âNot quite, dear.â
What?
You tried to move your head, but failed as you heard a responding chuckle at your fight to free yourself.
âI must say, youâre clever. Inexperienced, but clever,â Agatha mused as she came into focus, walking towards you with a smirk painted across her face.Â
âIâŠâ you struggled to speak, your throat far too dry, and Agatha fake pouted, raising her hand to brush against your face.
âIs someone feeling shy? Whereâs that confident little witch who used an enchantment spell on my assistant?â Agatha mocked, lightly slapping your cheek before tracing a finger across your lips. âTell me, what was your plan after slipping me that love potion?â
âI donâtâŠI donât understand,â you said deliriously, still feeling an odd sensation in your head.
âNormally Iâd have drained you of your magic by now,â Agatha said aloud, her long fingers moving lower, and you gasped as they wrapped around your neck. âItâs been a long time since someoneâs managed to surprise me.â
âYouâre a witch?â You managed to get out, torn between the paralyzing fear of what was occurring and a more carnal desire as you felt a heat pool between your legs from the way the mayor was looking at you.Â
âAnd here I thought you were clever,â Agatha said, a wicked gleam in her eyes as she squeezed, the pressure causing you to moan.
She moved closer to you, not releasing her hand from your throat as her lips grazed yours. âNow, I think itâs time I break in my new toy, hm? Why donât you show me how much you worship me.â
The mayor released you from your magical bindings as you hit the floor, and swirls of purple magic surrounded you, forcing you on your knees as she roughly grabbed your chin, forcing you to look up at her.Â
âIâve always wanted my own pet.â

â Are you seriously going to take all of that to New York with you? Why donât you just take one suitcase and then buy some outfits to wear there, yaâ know. â Phoebe chirped from her spot laid out across your bed while flipping through a HG magazine.Â
â I agree. Buy some cute outfits and surprise him that way. Then youâll have room to bring back the clothes you buy for you and us.â Alex continued to play a riveting game of tug of war with Magnus on the floor.
Her last comment made a laugh erupt from you in the closet, â Yeah nice try, buddy. Iâm not bringing you heifers anything back but some damn keychains and the lasting scent of the smug and smoggy New York air on me the next time we see each other.â You yelled back. â And plus itâs gonna be cold outside.âÂ
Phoebe laughed while Alex scoffed, â UM! Excuse me maâam, but as a friend, need I remind your ass that this was a part of the deal. Since youâre abandoning me, The Travel Buddy, to go FORNICATE with Mr. Goldilocks in New York instead of HOME with me for the Winter Wonderland Festival. You promised to bring me back something nice to add to my outfit for the Warner Bros. charity event next month.â She recalled the promise that you did in-fact make to cease her tantrum at the time.Â
â And on top of that, Iâm also the one silk pressing your hair for this trip, maâam. AND taking care of my fur nephew that youâre abandoning as well. Therefore, I DESERVE SOMETHING.â She added.Â
â This is true.â Phoebe co-signed, continuing to flip through the pages.Â
You cut your eyes at her when you entered the room again to walk a pair of shoes over to your bursting suitcase.
â Yeah. Yeah. Iâll make sure to bring you back something for your pain and suffering. Brat.â You muttered the last part. â AND fyi his hair is black now.âÂ
Alex grinned while blowing you an air kiss that you grab and pretend to smush in your hands.Â
â You know you LUHHHHH me, girl.â She teased. â Now hurry up because I donât have all night to do this. I donât know why you didnât just get braids or some passion twists put in like a normal person going on a trip .âÂ
â Whatâs love got to do with it?â You sassed. In return you were met with a pillow to the side and giggles around the room. â And donât rush me! Iâm almost done.âÂ
â What time is Austin supposed to be coming to get you from the airport? Phoebe questioned.Â
â Noon.â You answered fighting to try and fit a scarf into your luggage. â My flight leaves at noon and I should be there by evening. Iâm not exactly sure when, I just know their three hours ahead.Â
â Okay. Cool, just make sure you let us know when youâre in the car and everything. â Phoebe noted.
You scoff, âLike yall asses wonât be watching me on 360 anyway. Stalkers.âÂ
â Hey! You should be happy that somebody cares enough to stalk your ass. People go missing everyone, B.â Alex mocked the line from Paid in Full.Â
â Yeah. I know. I do the same thing with yaâll.â You huffed, â Okay. I think thatâs it.âÂ
â Good! â Alex jumped up, â Now go and grab my hair bag. So we can start on this head, honey. All this dang hair.â She looked at the long blow dried mess on your head.Â
â I know damn well that is not a damn hot comb.â You deadpanned.Â
â Do you want the hair straight or not? We have heat protectant, so relax. Whenever we both get back Iâll come over and we can do a treatment to make sure your curls revert back right. I got this. Now tilt your head down..âÂ
Phoebe giggled watching the two of you fuss at one another, â Yeah you better sleep pretty tonight, babes. Head on hands, silk scarf, and turn a fan on so you donât sweat.â
â I'm aware.â You sighed, settling into the chair and began to listen to Phoebe as she started her descent into her plans while you would be away.
â OW! â You jumped at the sudden sharp burning feeling on your scalp, â Alex really.â
â I barely touched you! Itâs the steam.â She giggled at the scrunch on your face, â Hehe. My bad.âÂ
______
The Next DayâŠ
After a couple goodbyes to your fur baby and helping your driver wrestle your large suitcase into the back of the car Austin had sent for you against your wishes, you found yourself tiredly weaving about through LAX.Â
Youâd already pre-checked everything, so once you went through security and went to make sure your gate existed, youâd found a very overpriced coffee place and ordered a little danish and iced chai to settle the nerves.
It wasnât until you were in a seat by the terminal happily scrolling away on your phone that you got a text message from Austin.Â
Sweet Baboo: canât wait to see you. enjoy your flight. love you. :3
Once you boarded, the flight had been fine and youâd done exactly what was predicted of you.
Youâd read for a good couple of hours and then slept a good chunk of the rest of it. The flight was smooth with no delays.
When the pilot announced your descent, anticipation began to build up in your chest
Quickly you pulled out the mini mirror from your carry on bag and went to fix your minimal makeup and undid the head scarf on your head to reveal the flowy silk press that fell down your shoulders. You combed it out and fixed your little cute airport outfit in preparation to get off.
Seeing as you were in first class, against your wishes also, you were one of the first to exit the plane. You made it to baggage claim where a nice older gentleman with a sign had begun setting your luggage up for you on a cart and offered to push it down to the terminal.
â For Miss Y/L/N.â Heâd smiled.
â Yes, Iâm her.â You nodded.Â
â Wonderful Iâll be helping you with your luggage. Compliments of a Mr. Sweet Baboo.â He told you with a grin on his face.
You stifled a part of your laugh as the two of you began walking through the airport, â Did he really ask you to say that? âÂ
He nodded, â Yes, He did. But I donât mind. One of the more milder things Iâve been asked to say in my time doing this job.âÂ
â I can only imagine.â You laughed.Â
â Quite cold outside. But you look bundled up.â The man smiled.
â Oh yeah. Itâs the Sahara in here. I think the breeze will actually help cool me down.âÂ
The sharp chill of the evening wind swiped at the little exposed patches of your face as you made it to the extremely congested pick up and drop off area. It felt near impossible to try and find which car belonged to your boyfriend in the sea of what felt like a thousand black SUVs littering the street.
It wasnât until you spotted a familiar head of slicked back raven hair stuck out one window that you recognized your boyfriend as he made his way out the car.
A squeal unintentionally left you and Austin smiled a mile wide as he opened his arms up to you, â Thereâs my girl.â He laughed, catching your body that was flung into him. â Hey there. Mr. Sweet Baboo.â You giggled into his neck, placing a kiss there.
Heâd taken his time unlatching you from him until he offered to quickly help the man load the trunk since heâd spotted what he believed to be the shine of a camera in the distance.Â
You didnât have time to breathe once you both were inside and the door shut. The partition was already rolled up and once the car started to move, and so did Austinâs lips against yours. Your body had suddenly felt like it was on fire with a flame that only he could put out.Â
Your hands were attached to his face while his own were free to roam the parts of your body heâd missed in his absence.Â
A small moan escaped you at the sensation of his hand kneading your thigh under his touch and pulling you further into him to the point of being in his lap now.Â
â Fuck, I missed you, Baby.â He groaned.
â Not as much as I missed you.â You mumbled in-between kisses, hands feverishly grabbing at anything on his body that would keep him tethered to you.Â
He smiled into your lips, â Is that a challenge? Because believe me, before this car even hits the main streets I can prove that I missed you most.â He whispers, hand sliding to rest just under your abdomen. Your breath hitches and the most indecent thoughts begin to pool around in your brain.Â
You giggled feeling his fingers sliding up your cardigan, â Okay..okay..okay. I believe you.âÂ
â I canât wait to get you home, all to myself.â His words came out muffled, but had all the same effect as you found yourself pacing your breath and clenching your legs together.Â
â You look cold, sweetheart. Let me warm you up.âÂ
The ride had been agonizingly long with Austin teasing you every chance you got.Â
When the two of you arrived at Austinâs brownstone, your eyes couldnât register just how beautiful it looked from the outside. Almost like something youâd see in movies like Autumn in New York or Maid in Manhattan.Â
â Aus itâs beautiful.â You mumbled out taking in the glistening snow that littered the cement steps beyond the black steel gate.
â Thank you. Canât wait to get you inside of it.â He smiled, pecking your lips before getting out.
To your protests, heâd gotten all of your bags himself and took them inside as you huffed and whined, â I wanna help! Itâs my stuff. Aus! Itâs too cold for you to be out here doing this by yourself.âÂ
â Nope. Just get your cute ass in the house. â You rolled your eyes at his smug grin.
The minute you stepped inside the foyer of the home Austin had literally swept you off your feet, dipping his face into your neck to administer kisses.Â
You laugh and thrash in his arms the entire way to his gorgeous couch, ridding yourselves of your coats.Â
â So, first, â He plopped down next to you, instantly reaching his arms out to pull your body into his lap. â Are you hungry? I know you didnât eat on the plane. And before we do anything else I wanna get you fed if need be.âÂ
â No, not really. â You leaned back against him, â I think Iâm just hyped up on the adrenaline of getting to see you.â
â Yeah me too.â A finger traced along your neck just where your hair fell past, , â Damn. Look at your hair. I knew it was long, but Iâve never seen it like this. Itâs beautiful.âÂ
â Thanks. I wanted something a little more manageable since our itinerary is a bit packed. Itâs not big and unruly like usual.â You played with your ends.Â
â Stop it.â He scolded, â Big? Yes. Unruly? No. I love your hair in its natural state babe. Itâs cute. I love watching you take care of it. It reminds me to stay up on my shit.âÂ
â Yeah, no 2 in 1 conditioner for you buddy.â You reached to pick at one of his dark locks close to his ear. It was still taking some getting used to.Â
â Hey.â He turned to nip at your hand, â There wasnât any 2 in 1 shampoo before you and there damn sure wonât be any now that Iâve been exposed to the good life.â
And a good life it was! Youâd exposed Austin to all the skin care, shea butter, oil pulling, essential oils and everything else needed and now mysteriously you had products coming up empty all the time.
â I know babe Iâm just teasing. Excited for this weekend with you.âÂ
â So am I. Gonnaâ feel good spending time with my girl. Kinda miss my little buddy though. â
â I know me too.â You pout, â But I promise you heâs living his best life with his Aunt Alex. Heâs already had a pup cup, two treats, and last I knew was taking a nap in her office on a pile of heated blankets.âÂ
â Youâre going home to a diva, baby.â He smirked, imagining the little dog buried in blankets fast asleep. â So, back to this itinerary that was mentioned.âÂ
â Yes! It goes by day to optimize experiences and time.â You pronounced proudly, bouncing on the couch.
â Really? âÂ
â Truly. I wanna make the most of our time together.â You replied.Â
â Okay, do tell. â His eyebrows raised in amusement, â Whatâs on today? â
â Todayâs agenda is light because itâs the first day and I already knew Iâd be tired. So the only two major things on the list are having dinner with my Sweet Baboo and unpacking.âÂ
â Nice! And we can make all that happen. Letâs take a look at the other days.âÂ
And you did, together you examined the well planned and thought out itinerary in front of you.
He nodded , â Looks good. We may have to make a couple of adjustments if thatâs okay with you. I have some surprises in store.âÂ
â Ouuu! What?! Tell me.â You practically bounced in his lap.Â
He smiled, â If I told you it wouldnât be a surprise then, would it.â
â Not even a hint.â You whine, slightly puckering your lips, and playfully batting your mascaraed eyelashes.Â
â No. Nuh uh. Not gonna happen. But youâre cute though, baby.â He pecked your lips.
You groan, â Fine! On second thought I am hungry. Feed me seymour.â You goofed trying to imitate the rich voice of Levi Stubbs.Â
The lines of his lips curl, â Cââmon then Audrey II. You can keep me company while I start dinner.âÂ
And you did just that perched on a chair at the island while the two of you made small talk.
â That canât be all.â He softly laughed, â I havenât seen you and I wanna really know how my girl is doing? Tell me. I know there's something.â
â I mean there really isnât much to tell, baby. I told you. Itâs just been work..writingâŠMagnus..and missing you.â
â How about that lease? â Austin said, rolling out the dough in front of you.
Your shoulders tensed, â What about it?âÂ
â You talk to your building manager about whether you're renewing or not this spring, yet? â He inquired about your plans for your apartment, which was really his not so subtle way of asking if youâd thought anymore about his offer to move in with him after Elvis was estimated to wrap this summer.
Although you and Austin had been together for almost six months at this point, you werenât exactly sure if you were completely ready for that kind of commitment yet. Granted when the projected time of wrapping would come around the two of you would be coming up on a year, you still had some things holding you back about the whole ordeal.
â Itâs on the to - do - listâŠâ You stretched, âOne of the many adult things to eventually be handled.âÂ
â Uh huh. I see. â He mused,â Well like I said before. I wouldnât mind coming home to you and Magnus every night. And when Iâm home you're either always at my place or vice versa. In my eyes it would just make sense.â Austin explained.Â
Your hands fidget with the brown place mat in front of you, â I hear you and I understand, babe. And I promise Iâm really taking all of this into heavy consideration. â You settled.Â
â Good, I can live with that. Now get up, come over here and help me by cutting the sheath on these asparagus.â Austin instructed, while heating up his rosemary and pepper butter mix in his skillet.
Your eyes widened at the opportunity to help, while you could cook you were unashamed to say that you had hard limitations of what you could and couldnât make. Whereas Austin on the other-hand was practically a chef with the way he could make his assortment of dishes. Which in turn made him the primary cook of the relationship while you were always happy to be captain of the clean up crew.Â
â Oh yay. I get to help.â You hopped up, â And you're going to let me use a knife! Sick! âÂ
Now becoming skeptical, Austin cocked his head rethinking his offer of a sous chef position, â On second thought maybe you should stick to being my honorary taste tester. Quite good at that job, peaches.âÂ
â Nope. Iâm helping. â You rolled up your sleeves, â Now prepare to see some clean beautifully mutilated asparagus, babe. âÂ
â Jesus.â Austin groaned, placing the steaks in the sizzling pan.
______
Your dinner of sirloin, seared asparagus, garlic and herb mash potatoes, and bread you couldnât pronounce right was absolutely splendid.Â
And now being presented in-front of you was just the dessert to top the night off: A thick and nice slice of strawberry drizzled NY cheesecake.
Favorite of yours.
As you began to indulge in your sweet treat you teased yourself by wondering if there was any way the night could possibly get better.Â
Then it hit youâŠyou could knock one of your tomorrow's itenary items off tonight without any worry.
So, yes. It definitely could.Â
â You know what would be really good, right now.â You mused aloud at the island.Â
Still turned Austin asked, â And what would that be, sweetheart? â He continued loading the dishwasher.Â
â A nice hot relaxing bath. âÂ
â Uh huh.â He sounded
Grabbing the towel off the stove handle, Austin walked over to the island to lean in.Â
â Okay. â He simply said, â Your wish is my command.âÂ
â Really? â You nervously scraped your fork against your plate.
â Of course. This trip is all about you. So, if the best girl wants to end the evening with a bath. Then itâs my job to make it happen.â He washed his hands.Â
â Just stay here and finish your dessert. And then come up. Alright? â He instructed, coming around to stand in front of you, taking your face into his face.
â Okay. â You nodded.
He returned the gesture and placed a chaste kiss to your forehead on his way out before heading upstairs.Â
You could hear the faint sounds of water running as you struggled to calm your weirdly nervous stomach and finish your dessert.Â
By the time you made it up stairs and into the bathroom the lights were dimmed and the aroma of jasmine bath salts and vanilla bubble bath filled your senses.
You werenât spooked when you felt him appear behind you.Â
â Let me take this off of you.â His fingers danced along the curves of your side as his hands moved along to lift your shirt over your head.Â
You sucked in tiny breaths the rest of the time he took to undress you. Ever so often youâd catch his eyes and smile, turning away to blush.
Once you were as naked as the day you were born, he gently helped you step into the creme claw foot tub.
â You wanna get in? â You sheepishly grinned. Â â Plenty of room.â Kicking up your feet over the side to expose the suds and bubbles that dripped down your legs.
Knowing that heâd already restrained himself while helping you undress, Austin wasnât too sure heâd be able to handle any accidental slips of the hand or touching by any means without immediately yanking you out the bath and into the bedroom for some extremely intentional touching of his own to you.
â No, Iâm okay. This is about you. So, enjoy your bath, babe.â He smiled leaning over to grab at the loofa.
, â Stop it. Youâre fine.â Austin playfully scolded, watching the pout spread on your face.
â If you want we can both sit on opposite sides. â You offered just as a lightbulb went off in your brain, â OH! Or you could lay with your back against my chest and my arms around you like Vivan and Edward in Pretty Woman. Iâve actually always wanted to do that.â You confessed your little fantasy.Â
â Plus. You did say this weekend was about me.â You moved to place your hands on the tub and rest your head on them, â And what I want right now is for you to come in here with me. Now,âÂ
Austinâs cheeks warmed in affection and amusement as he watched a twinkle appear in your eye at the idea of getting to live out another one of your little rom-com fantasies. And how youâd suddenly gotten a bit bold in your request.Â
He sat there for a moment contemplating when ultimately he decided who would he be if he couldnât be the person to fulfill your fantasies and desires.Â
He blew out air, â Fine. Iâll be the Edward to your Vivan, babe. But just know the accidental touching and moving needs to be kept to a minimum. â You watched as he stood up to pull his shirt above his head and shimmy his pants. â I mean it. I am a man of virtue after all, honey. A delicate flower you could say. So, I expect to be treated as such.â He teased.
You didnât have a smart remark to quip back at him because your mind and eyes had both been polluted with the images of him bare before you in all his glory.
Instead you mustered a playful cat call, â Yeah take it off! Look at those cheeks! âÂ
All Austin could do was smile and shake his head as he walked over and maneuvered himself to get in and sink in between your legs. Your arms found a home around his shoulders and your lips made quick work of placing innocent enough kisses to his skin in places you knew may be lessâŠinflammatory than others.
And you could tell by the low and almost soulful groan Austin let out once he was fully submerged in the calm of the warm water that this was something he needed too. â Feels good..â He mumbled letting his head back to rest in the valley of your naked breasts.Â
â Good.â You replied, as you too were enjoying the warm intimacy of the atmosphere.Â
â We donât do this enough at home.â Austin sounded as you used the soft silicone loofah to scrub and wash his chest.
â What? â
â RelaxingâŠsoaking like this.â He rubbed at your knee that was exposed out of the water.Â
 â I agree.âÂ
â So..â He squeezed the sponge heâd grabbed and dipped into the water on your back, â You excited for tomorrow? â
You nodded, â I am. Iâve visited here once on a family trip and another time for a work thing. But Iâve always felt like Iâve never gotten the true experience. And since Aunt Kiki lives here now Iâve been wanting to visit her. But of course sheâs away on a work trip this time of year.â
â Mhmm.â A hum can from Austin as you move your hand lower.
â Watch yourself.â Austin mumbled, grabbing that hand to interlock it with his.Â
And you did, you made it a point to keep your hands clear of the southern equator of your man. That was until you felt him let guard with a sigh and push back into you.Â
This was the moment you took your opportunity.
A breath hitched, â Y/NâŠwhat are you doing? I thought I made it very clear the stipulations of this arrangement. âÂ
You crane your head down to rest your lips just above the shell of his ear as your hand continues to move toward its desired destination.Â
He tensed against you when you went to lightly grip at his now half-hard cock in your hand. You moved it up and down a bit before stopping and using the pad of your thumb to quickly run across his tip.
Involuntarily Austin lets out a small hiss at the sensation, â Alright, thatâs enough of that. â He hand comes to try and halt yours. But you use your leg to stop him.
Instead you ignored him, keeping your attention focused on guiding your hand to stroke him up and down. The water of the tub has begun to sway from the movement, â Iâm not done.â You whispered in his ear. â You said this weekend was about making me feel good.âÂ
Your tongue darts out to lick and bite at his ear, â You wanna know what would make me good?Â
â Yes.â His answer sounded strained against his voice. By now heâd ever so slightly begun to move his hips upward into your hand, beginning to get lost in the sensation of his touch.
â What would make me good right now is for you to be a good boyfriend and cum all over my hand for me.â You say, mindful to increase the pace of your hand. â Please can I have it, baby. Will you give it to me? Will you give your cum, baby? âÂ
â Oh fuck.â Austinâs head dives back against your breast and his eyes are tightly shut as his body begins to become overwhelmed with pleasure. Your words doing something to him, of course heâd heard you be verbal during exchanges, but never like this. â Iâll give you anything you want.â He groaned.Â
â That good, Aus? â You used your free hand to come from its place on his chest, to grip at his chin and guide his head to loll to the side. It gives you access to attach your lips to his in what could only be described as a sloppy exchange of love. You swallowed his grunts and groans in your throat while he allowed your soft whimpers to enclose his lips.Â
By now the water of the tub began to slosh with bits beginning to fly out of the tub and onto the floor from the impact of Austinâs hips coming to meet the pace of your hand.
He reluctantly forced his mouth away from yours, saliva collected on his cheeks. â Fuck, just like that. Baby youâre gonna make me cum if you keep doing this.âÂ
â Yeah? Thatâs what I want, baby. Give it to me, Aus. Show me how much you missed my touch, baby.â You moaned dipping your head to suck on skin youâd long ago identified on his neck to be his â sweet spot.â
With that he couldnât contain himself anymore and you watched as his face contorted into a beautiful display of pleasure and angst, his eyelashes fluttered as he shot his thick ropes of cum in your hand. You keep stroking him through it until a hand shoots out to stop you. This time it succeeded as you ceased your movement, and watched his chest heave up and down.
Your hand rubs at his shoulder to help ground him and bring him back to you.
After a couple of minutes with a huff he speaks, â Was this your plan all along? To get me in this position, baby. So you could use me this way, as your play thing? â He accuses.Â
â Guilty.â You whispered, thinking about how this all was in-fact a long game in getting him here. You knew had it been in the bedroom or anywhere else he would have undermined your advances and made your own pleasure the main focus as usual. But you figured that if you could essentially â trap him â into a smaller more controlled environment where you could take the reins a bit, you could finally have a moment to adore your boyfriend the way he always makes sure to adore you.Â
â What am I gonna do with you?â He groans and you smile, placing a kiss on his head.Â
Eventually with no more funny business involved, you both take turns cleaning each other off before he gets out and wraps a towel around his waist. And then comes back for you, plucking your wet body out of the water.Â
Routines are done and pajamas are thrown on quickly before he ushers you both to lay in the big king size bed.Â
You relish the opportunity to sleep in his arms after so long. It seemed like itâd been a day and forever. When really itâd been about five and a half weeks.Â
â Quite the little show you put on there in the bathroom.â He whispered.
â What can I say, I missed seeing the faces you make like that in person. All those facetime calls just donât do those flushed cheeks or sweet strangled moans justice, baby. Needed to see it.â You shot back, and went to lightly play at the dip in his shoulder.
â I see weâve grown quite bold in my absence.â He muttered, trailing his eyes to your thigh that peaked out from the slightly raised shirt.
â So what about me? When do I get my own personal refresher of your moans and the way your body arches off the bed when I use my fingers to touch your spot? âÂ
At his words, you could feel your heartbeat begin to race and the all too familiar aching and yearning youâd been feeling throughout your body return.
â I donât know. I havenât felt like that in a while. Iâm not as good as you with my hands, baby. â You casually say.
â Well. I donât particularly plan on using my hands tonight. Iâve got a bit of a different approach since weâre so eager to try out new things. â He said.
And then he said something that knocked the wind out of your chest.
â Instead I want you to come and sit that pretty pussy on my face.âÂ
It would take you many moments and labored breaths of shock before you mustered up your bewildered response, â You want me to what?! âÂ
â You heard me.â Austin laughed from underneath you. You were straddling his lap while he lay flat on the bed and you were pretty sure that maybe he wasnât getting enough oxygen down there as it was.
â Aus. You canât be serious. I-Iâm not a Polly Pocket sized girly, babe. I have a nice amount of meat on these here bones.â You countered, â Iâm not sure this is a good idea.â
â What? You donât think I can handle you? Is that it? â His voice purred, fingers dancing up along the curve of your spine.Â
â Of course not! â You clarified, â Itâs just thatâŠthat.â You huffed trying to gather the right words together. â I want you to be able to breathe , babe. HOW WILL YOU BREATHE?! âÂ
You watched his face turn in amusement at your flustered state, â Donât you worry about that, babe. Iâm a big boy. Iâll figure it out. And if notâŠ. when they find me you tell them I died happy and stuffed in-between the sweetest place on earth.â He said, immediately you felt your cheeks flush, â These thighs.â
â AUS! â You softly slapped at his chest, â Be serious.âÂ
He laughed ,â I am. Theyâll find me with a permanent glistening smile.âÂ
You groaned trying to shimmy off of him but his hands at your sides stopped you. â Uh huh. From when good oleâ Rick and Mortis set in.âÂ
â Iâm not asking again, darling. â You yelped when he grabbed your thighs and moved you further up his chest, close to your neck, â Get up here.âÂ
â But Aus I- â You cut yourself off with moan when you felt his hand come to fondle at your breast.Â
â What was that? Iâm sorry I may not have caught that.â
â I-w-well-âÂ
He had your virgin ass absolutely flustered.Â
â Take emâ off. I want emâ off of you.â He mumbled, scooting you further and tugging at your night shorts.Â
Obliging, you somehow managed to rid yourself of your shorts and his shirt. At that moment it took all the courage not to fold right there.Â
You leaned forward against the pretty dark wood headboard to grip at its edges in a fair attempt at stabilizing yourself in your squat.Â
The plan had been to lower yourself down nice and slow, but leave it to your boyfriend to be an absolutely impatient brat to knock the wind out of you by slamming you down against his face.Â
You went to make a remark of protest but soon found that the second his tongue touched you, youâd been left unable to form long coherent sentences. A simple moan of, â Austin!â Was all that was mustered.Â
He groans as he begins to eagerly lap and lick at your drenched pussy. The vibration alone makes you tighten your grip.Â
Using his hands he bares down pressing you further into him as you cry out from this new intense feeling. He's calculated with how he uses his tongue to tease the entrance of your opening before gliding it back to suckle at your poor throbbing clit.Â
The more and more sucks, the more your juices uncontrollably leak from you, until now the sounds of lewd slurping and your moans come together to echo off the walls.Â
â That feels so good.â You mewl, unable to control how you begin to grind your pussy against his face.Â
He lifts up a little bit to mumble, â Yeah? Am I making this pussy cry with my tongue? She talking to me, honey?â He sends a long lick up your slit making you jump.Â
â Yes! Your tongue is so good, baby. It feels so good.â You cried out.Â
You could practically feel him smile into your pussy when he closed the gap, obviously satisfied with desensitizing you this way.Â
From there he really started to lay into you, when he laid his tongue completely flat on your clit you couldnât help the pleas that spilled from your mouth, â Yes! Yes! Yes! Just like that! Aus, PLEASE.â You began riding his face with more urgency.Â
A hand came to smack and grip at your ass to help you with your motion, by now your stomach had begun to build up into that all too familiar knot of delicious agony.Â
â Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! â You squealed, â Aus Iâm close! I gotta get up.â You tried scrambling off him and out of his grip, out of fear he truly wouldnât be able to breathe from how hard you were about to flood his face.Â
Little did you know that was all the motivation he needed to go harder, using his tongue and mouth to take a grip on your clit that outta to be illegal. He sent a series of smacks to your exposed ass to let you know that you had better not go anywhere.Â
Tears sprang in your eyes, â I-I. Itâs too much! âÂ
You white knuckled the headboard as your body began to heat up and spark with your impending orgasm. â Aus Iâm about to cum all over your fucking face!âÂ
â Thatâs it, baby. Let go for me.â He moaned out against you.Â
Gripping your ass harder he helped grind you faster against his tongue until he felt your body begin convulsing above him, â Iâm fucking cumming! Aus! Yes! Yes! Yes! â You hissed, feeling the floodgates overtake you.Â
After cleaning you up with a couple more licks and slurps, he catches your limp body and gently lowers you to lay next to him.Â
Through hazy pleasure ridden eyes you look over to see that previously mentioned glistening smile set across his face as he lays triumphantly next to you!
You feel the bed dip as he disappears into the bathroom and returns with two damp towels: one for you and one for him.Â
He goes to really clean you up before hoisting you in his arms and carrying you to the bathroom to pee.Â
After everything is said and done, he brings a now sleepy you into his chest, arms creating a warm cage of comfort, â So, will I be doing that again this weekend?â His hands rub your back.Â
You nod and he smiles, â That good? âÂ
Voice cracking you whisper back, â Could you not tell by the way I left Lake Erie on your face that it was fuckinâ amazing.âÂ
â Just checking. â He laughed, â Next time weâll try for the Mississippi, yeah?âÂ
_____
Next Day
Madison Square GardenÂ
New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers GameÂ
â I canât believe Iâm actually doing this. Iâve always wanted to go to one of these.â You squealed looking out at the crisp white ice while you were surrounded by thousands of other people.
Cup of water in hand and popcorn in lap, youâd dressed in thick wool lined jeans , a Flyers jersey, converse, and had your baseball cap to the back in spirit of your first time seeing a Flyers game in person.Â
Austin laughed and took a sip of the wine heâd gotten. â Iâm glad weâre enjoying ourselves. I keep forgetting you told me you were a little hockey fan. Would have never guessed.â
You laugh, â Yeah. When I was little my Aunt dated the guy who did the sound at the games for the Blue Jackets so we always got tickets. Sheâd go and take us up on the weekends and I can remember just always having the best time. Ever since Iâve become quite fond of hockey. The smell of the wet ice when they redo it, the chill of the arena, the way the glass rattles when the players zip by. I love it.âÂ
Austin noticed the way you hadnât taken your eyes off the ice the entire time you were talking about this little passion of yours. A smile passed his face in satisfaction that heâd learned something new about you. For most of the rest of the time he got more pleasure from watching you watch the game then actually paying attention to what was going on himself.Â
The way your nose scrunched when a shot was missed, your little squeals when your team regained the puck, and even how you held your own and werenât afraid to get back with surrounding audience members who may have said something to you out of the way.
This was hockey after all.
By the time halftime rolled around you were content at watching your favorite little segments.Â
Kid of the game, celeb look alike, and your personal favorite: The Kiss Cam.Â
The cliche track by Sixpence None The Richer echoed throughout the arena as you watched couples old and young peck each other and giggle for the camera.
It warmed your heart, but what happened next made it drop to your ass and roll onto the ice.
Because suddenly, your face made up in about a million pixels on the big kiss cam screen, there you and your grinning boyfriend were on display for the whole world.
People around you had begun to cheer and you could see Austinâs face was turning a shade of candy apple red.Â
â Aus.â You whispered, half covering our face. The encouragement and cheering only grew louder and you felt Austinâs hand come to remove yours from your face. â Hey. Câmon we canât let everyone else have all the fun.âÂ
â Just pretend itâs you and I. Only us. Okay?â He whispered, taking your face into his hands.Â
You nodded and took a deep breath closing your eyes with a mixture of excitement and nerves pinging through you as your lips connected with his in a sweet little innocent kiss.Â
The whoops and cheers intensified around you and when you pulled away you saw the wide smile Austin had his arm around your waist and you both waved to the camera one last time.Â
After you were off Austin wrapped his arms around you, placing a kiss on your head, â Always wanted to kiss a pretty girl on one of those things. Never thought Iâd ever get the guts to do it. Guess dreams come true.â He laughed. Â
You could still feel your heart pounding in your chest a bit thinking about how youâd replay that moment in your head for who knew how long to come, â Yeah. They really do, they really do.âÂ
He placed a kiss on your hand and the both of you returned your attention back to the screen just as an older couple appeared.Â
Eventually after some shouting, another small bag of popcorn, and twenty autographs from Austin to some fans later, the game was over, the Flyers beat the Rangers, and the two of you happily walked along to the car.Â
â Home for a nap. â Austin suggested.Â
â Yes Please.â You yawned, feeling the excitement of the day beginning to catch up with you.Â
______
Austinâs Brownstone - 8:23pmÂ
â Well, Good Evening sleepy-head.â Austin greeted your groggy figure as you sat up with a pile of blankets sliding from you.Â
â Evening?! â You yawned while looking around at the dimming sky outside the big bay window in the living room. â My gosh, babe. How long did you let me sleep? What time is it? Donât we have reservations? â Â
You looked over to the loveseat where Austin had his feet propped up with a book in hand.
â Woah. â He held up a hand, â Slow down. Take a breath.â
â I let you sleep because you needed to rest, Babe. Itâs about eight-twenty five right now and I called and canceled the reservations we had because truth be told Iâm a little tired too. âÂ
Your bottom lip stuck out and you went to protest but he held up a hand.Â
â So, instead I thought maybe youâd want to order in. Your choice. Thai, Italian, MexicanâŠâ He threw out the options. Nothing sounds good.
â Do you know any good sandwich places? âÂ
______
Forty five minutes and two wrapped hero sandwiches laterâŠ
â Two-truths and one lie go.â You randomly said, reaching for one of his fries.Â
â Hmm. Alright. Well, I once shared the same production lot with BeyoncĂ© and met her. â He began, â Two, I used to come home every single day in elementary school to eat lunch with my mother, and I once played a sad tree in my acting groupâs play when I was younger..âÂ
You threw up your grease ridden hands, â Automatically I'm gonna assume that the Beyonce thing is unfortunately untrue because I donât think you wouldâve held out on me like that. And Iâm almost positive from that picture your sister showed that you were a sad bird in that play. So,I donât knowâŠmaybe the lunch thing. I wouldnât think an elementary school would let a kid walk home like that? Right? âÂ
Austin smiled, â Well my dear. Unfortunately this one youâd be wrong because all through elementary school I did in fact have a standing lunch appointment with my mother everyday.â He revealed.
â Really?! And the school just let you go? âÂ
He nodded, â Yeah. We started doing it because of how shy I was. I couldn't really make friends at that age because of it, so sometimes it was hard being in school. Everyone knew everyone in town so the walk home and back was a breeze. We always ate P & Jâs and watched cartoons or old westerns.â He recalled the fond memories. â I know with work and other things at the time Iâm sure her doing it wasnât exactly ideal, but she still always made it work.âÂ
Your heart swelled for him as you reached out to rub his shoulder.
â Awe, Austin, that sounds so sweet. She seemed amazing. âÂ
â Yeah, she was.â He sighed, â She really was.âÂ
â Wish Iâd had a mom like that.â You sighed, â I wish I would have had a mom period. âÂ
As soon as the words left your mouth and you saw the look on Austinâs face, you instantly felt embarrassed.Â
It wasnât like Austin didnât know about your situation, it just wasnât something that you had in-depth discussed before. And you also really werenât trying to make this seem about you either. It was just a little slip of word vomit.
You backtracked, â I mean I do have a Mom. Just, itâs rather I justâŠhave no idea where she is. SortaâŠâÂ
Noticing you were about to say more but held yourself back, Austin encouraged you to continue, â Hey. Itâs alright. Tell me.âÂ
â Okay well. From what I know, my Aunt said after I turned a year my mother wasnât really around much. Started going out and hanging around with friends all hours of the night, and she just really didnât seem that interested in Gracie and me anymore. Even disappeared for days at a time.âÂ
â She left my Dad a note one night. On it she explained that she couldnât imagine another day of being a mother. Specifically she said that it was draining something out of her that she was afraid sheâd never get back. That weâd all be better off without her being there, herself included.âÂ
â I was only a year and some change and Gracie was almost five. And Dad did the best he could raising two girls by himself. He didnât date much or anything really. Just was a devoted GM Plant worker and an even more devoted Dad.âÂ
â A couple years later he found out that sheâd remarried, moved to a part of Spain, and had more children. So, he made the decision to go to court and officially file for full custody of us. Which she didnât contest, naturally.â You continued, â I donât think he ever really got over it, unfortunately.âÂ
â He never talked about her at all. And when he passed away when I was thirteen from congestive heart failure we went to live with our grandmother in Georgia. Gracie graduated and decided to move to Texas to pursue a career in public service. And after graduation I got a scholarship to Arizona State, so my grandmother moved and then decided to travel the world.âÂ
â If you donât mind me asking, has she ever tried to reach out? â Austin questioned.Â
You nodded, â Only once. Not to me though.â You clarified.
â When Gracie got married. Somehow sheâd found Gracieâs address and sent a letter. Gracie read it but never responded. And she never told me what the letter said either. Her silent way of still protecting her little sister. I guess.âÂ
â Would you have wanted to know what it said? âÂ
â I don't really know. Maybe? Maybe not? â You answered. â She wrote it just to Gracie. So, I'm sure thereâs a reason for that.âÂ
â Being honestâŠ.â You started feeling your lip begin to quiver and eyes water at the incoming thought. â I always wondered if I was the reason she left? Like maybe I was hard to take care of or if carrying me did something negative to her. I-I *sniffle* It doesnât sound like she wanted to leave when she had Gracie, so why after me? Why didnât she stay? âÂ
Your vision had full on fuzzied out now and your cheeks were slick with tears, turning his head to look at you all Austin could do was feel his heart ache.Â
He tried to reach out but you instinctively moved away trying to cover your face, â Donât. Itâs fine.â Your voice cracked.Â
He frowned, â No itâs not, babe. Youâre upset. My best girl is crying. Nothing is ever fine when my best girl is crying. Itâs very far from fine actually.â He fussed moving toward you still.Â
â Hey.â He cooed, while reaching over to gently grab you and pull you onto his body, â Hey. Shhh. Itâs okay. Let it out.â He encouraged, rubbing your back and placing a kiss to your head as small sobs still escaped you.Â
A hand went to your head to hold against him as he offered you all of his love and comfort.
After a while youâd began to settle and quiet at the warm feeling of being enveloped in his arms and calmed by his words. He hated that you were feeling this way. In situations like this it truly made Austin appreciate his mother, he couldnât have imagined ever having any other maternal experience then what he had. He wished everyone could have had that.Â
â Hey, look at me.â He cupped your face and wiped at the tears while you sniffled, â Anyone would be lucky to have you in their life, sweetheart.âÂ
â Iâm lucky to have you in my life.â He affirmed while making sure your eye contact never broke, tears forming in his. â You hear me? I love you.âÂ
You nodded, clinging to his shirt, â I love you too, Austin.âÂ
He smiled, â Of course. Snot and all.â He teased making you giggle and shriek away from him.Â
He went to lean over and hand you the tissue box heâd snatched.
â Now, letâs get into bed. How about a shower and a movie? Any movie you want.â
At this declaration you perked, â Any movie? âÂ
Now a bit skeptical, Austin still nodded, â Any movie.âÂ
______
â Okay, I changed my mind. Any movie but this one.â He groaned.
â Austin.â You mirrored his groan.Â
â Fine.â He mumbled dragging you into his arms as the beginning of Lilo and Stitch played on the screen.
â You really like this movie, huh? â Austin chuckled into your headscarf.Â
â Itâs my favorite! I was obsessed when I was little. I had a lilo and stitch lunch box, bed set, and all kinds of stuff.â You explained.â
â And have you ever been to Hawaii? â
â Nu uh. Havenât gotten around to it. Maybe one day.âÂ
â Uh huh.â Austin yawned.
Maybe one day real soonâŠ

Yossi Landau is the head of operations for the southern region at Zaka, an Israeli search-and-rescue organization. Assigned to collect human remains after the October 7 Hamas attack in Israel, Landau and his fellow Zaka members riveted media outlets worldwide with the horrific atrocities they saw.
Speaking through tears at the Jerusalem Press Club shortly after the attack, Landau described finding a pregnant woman in Kibbutz Beâeri in a âbig puddle of blood, face down.â
âHer stomach was butchered open,â Landau said. âThe baby that was connected to the cord was stabbed.â
In Beâeri, he said, he also found a family who was tied up, tortured, and executed with a bullet to the back of the head: father, mother, and two small children around 6 or 7 years old. An eye was missing, fingers chopped off. Landau later told CNN, âThe terrorists were having a ball,â with Palestinian militants devouring a holiday meal set out by the family. Landau broke down recounting the tale, as a CNN reporter comforted him.
Long after Landauâs emotional recollections were replayed, repeated, cited, and quoted in the global media, a problem emerged: No one could find any evidence that the two massacres ever took place â in Beâeri or elsewhere. In the case of the butchered mother and fetus, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz concluded the killing âsimply didnât happen.â As for the tortured family, no one killed in Beâeri matches Landauâs account. The one brother and sister to die in the kibbutz were 12-year-old twins, killed when an Israeli general ordered a tank to fire on a house where Hamas militants were holding them hostage. Nevertheless, Landau told these stories unchecked in interviews and press conferences.
Landau spread his tales far and wide with little pushback â telling similar stories on camera to CNN, Fox News, and the Media Line, and at an outdoor press conference. Even after reporters showed his accounts lacked any substantiation, news organizations continued to let him off the hook. The New York Times recently interviewed Landau as part of a profile about Zaka, but it did not mention either of his atrocity stories.

ăăăNew-York, June 1756
âEverything is in order. You can enter, Lady [y/f/n].â
The red coat handed you your invitation. As you entered the huge place, your eyes wandered around you, detailing every nook and cranny, taking in and memorising the layout of the area. The grand hall was indeed a spectacle of opulence. Crystal chandeliers sparkled above, casting a golden glow over the sea of masks that danced and mingled below. Laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the soft strains of violins filled the air, creating a scene that was far removed from the dangerous world you were familiar with.
Your mission tonight was simple: gather information, and your mentor was clear about your purpose here; not to engage at any costs. The Templars were holding this extravagant masquerade in the hopes of attracting allies from high society, and you had been sent by the Assassin Brotherhood withâof course, a fake nameâto blend in, to listen, to learn. The gown you wore tonight was unlike anything you were used toâluxurious, intricate, and adorned with a mask that glittered in the candlelight. Your hair was gathered in a half bun and some golden hair clips adorned them. In order to pass for a member of high society, you even took the time to put on a jewellery set; a necklace, dangling earrings and a few bracelets and rings. But beneath the facade of wealth and elegance, your blade was hidden, strapped to your left thigh under your luxurious gown, ever ready. If I'd been born as a man, hiding it and having simple access to it would have been easier, but there's nothing more I can do in this puffy dress⊠you thought.Â
As you walked amongst the other attendees, getting as close as possible to people whose clothes meant something to you, such as high-ranked Templars, you noticed a very particular group of men at the other side of the hall. Among them were Colonel George Monro and Sir William Johnson, both members of the Colonial Rite of the Templar Order. Your eyes fell on their silhouettes with their recognisable clothes from beneath your own mask but quickly continued their search. And who elseâŠ
What you hadn't expected was to find him here.
Shay Cormac stood with the group of men, dressed sharply in a black tailcoat with accents of silver and red. His mask, a sleek black piece that covered half his face, did little to hide the sharpness of his features or the air of authority he carried. His eyes, however, were unmistakable. The same stormy brown eyes that had haunted your thoughts since the day he defected from the Brotherhood.
You hadn't seen him in years, but the memories were fresh, the betrayal still raw.
But there was one detail that made your blood run cold: the young man's eyes were already riveted on you. When has he ever noticed you before? Your heartbeat quickened and you finally looked away, turning to a passing servant. You picked up a glass of champagne as he passed by you and began to sip the golden liquid, your eyes frantically searching for a place to rest in order to pass for an innocent. Maybe it was just a coincidence... No, no, he's far too clever to think that I'm just a random young woman...
You risked looking back up at the group of men he was with, but he had already disappeared. Your breathing quickened and you turned away from his previous location towards a random group of people, just to pass for a guest sympathising with others. Your heart raced as you opened your senses; you knew he was coming for you and you couldnât do anything but pray he hadnât recognised you yet. This was supposed to be just another mission, a simple infiltration, but now everything felt different. Could you approach him without giving yourself away?
A voice behind you jolted you from your thoughts, soon followed by a delicateÂ
"Would you care to dance?"
You freezed. A delicate palm soon rested on the small of your back and another one entered your field of vision from the right, at the level of your own right hand. Closing your eyes, you inhaled sharply before turning; you found Shay standing before you, his right hand still extended and a dangerous smile playing on his lips. Your heart skipped a beat once again at your inattentiveness. You needed to be more careful around him⊠The recognition in his eyes sent a chill down your spine. He definitely knew. He had seen through your disguise, just as you had seen through his.
But you couldn't afford to let him know the depth of your awareness, not here, not now.
"Of course," you replied, your voice steady despite the tension that coiled in your chest, giving away your champagne glass to a passing servant. You placed your right hand in his left, feeling the warmth of his grip, and he led you onto the dance floor.
The music swelled around you as Shay pulled you close, one hand resting firmly on your waist, the other holding your gloved hand in his. His touch was confident, and his movements were smooth as he guided you effortlessly through the steps of the waltz. The crowd around you faded into the background, your focus narrowing to the man before you.
"You've been watching me, [y/n]," Shay said softly, his lips barely moving as he leaned in. His tone was teasing, but there was an edge to it, a hidden challenge.
You met his gaze, your mask hiding the flash of defiance in your eyes. "I could say the same about you, Shay."
He chuckled, the sound low and dangerous. "It's been a long time, hasn't it?"
"Not long enough," you whispered with clenched teeth, your voice sharp despite the graceful steps of the dance.
Shay's grip on your waist tightened slightly, which made you tense, a silent acknowledgment of the tension between you. "You always did have a way with words. Tell me, are you here for pleasure, or are you working tonight?" You did not fail to notice his gaze sliding down your neck to the start of your cleavage, checking you out shamelessly.Â
Your cheeks flushed, feeling like a lamb trapped in the fangs of a wolf. You felt the heat of his breath as he spoke, the proximity making it difficult to keep your composure. Every instinct told you to draw your blade, to end this now, but the crowd was thick, and the consequences of a public confrontation were too great.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" you replied, your lips curving into a smile that didn't reach your eyes.
He twirled you effortlessly, the skirts of your gown swirling around you as you spun, and when you came back to him, his hand was lower, lingering just above the hidden blade at your thigh. He didn't touch it, but the threat was clear. He knew exactly where it was. Your blood ran cold at the thought that he had found your dagger.
"Careful," he murmured, tilting his head, his voice a soft warning. "This is a delicate dance we're doing. One misstep and it could get⊠messy."
From being riveted on his chest, your eyes looked back up into his own, the familiar storm clouds swirling with something darker, something more dangerous. "You think I'm afraid of a little mess?"
Shay's lips quivered into a smirk, and for a moment, you saw a glimmer of the man you once knew, the Assassin and friend who had fought beside you. But that man was gone, replaced by the Templar before you.
"You should be," he whispered, pulling you closer as the music slowed.
The world around you seemed to fall away, the crowd, the mission, the masksâall of it dissolved as the tension between you reached a boiling point. The weight of your shared history hung in the air, unspoken but palpable. You had fought side by side once, and had trusted him with your life. And then he had betrayed everything.
But here, in this moment, with his hand on your waist and your bodies moving in sync, the lines between enemy and ally blurred. You hated him, you were sure of that, but the way your heart pounded in your chest told a different story. There was something more, something you had never fully understood.
"Tell me, Shay," you said, your voice barely more than a breath as the music began to wind down. "Why did you do it? Why did you turn your back on us?"
Shay's expression darkened, the playful smirk fading as his eyes grew hard. "You wouldn't understand, [y/n]."
"Try me," you insisted, your grip on his hand tightening.
For a moment, he hesitated, his gaze searching yours. And then, just as the final note of the waltz echoed through the ballroom, he leaned in, his lips brushing against your ear.
"Because sometimes, the Brotherhood is wrong."
With those words, the music ended, and Shay released you, stepping back with a final, piercing look. He bowed slightly, a mockery of the formal dance, and then turned, disappearing into the crowd.
You stood there in the middle of the dance floor, watching him go back to his Templar associates. You were unable to move, your heart racing, and your mind spinning. His words echoed in your ears, and for the first time, you weren't sure where your loyalties truly lay.
As the night wore on, you realised that this masquerade was more than just a missionâit was the beginning of a far more dangerous game. One that you and Shay Cormac were destined to play, whether you liked it or not.
The evening continued around you, but it felt as though you were standing still. The swirling skirts, the clinking of glasses, the murmurs of conversationâthey all faded into background noise as your mind raced with Shayâs parting words.
âBecause sometimes, the Brotherhood is wrong.â
Your hand unconsciously grazed the hidden blade at your thigh, the familiar weight suddenly feeling heavy. Shay had betrayed everything you once stood for. He had walked away, abandoned the Creed, and joined the very enemies you had sworn to fight. And yet⊠there was a flicker of doubt creeping into your thoughts, a doubt you hadnât allowed yourself to feel in years.
The Brotherhood had given you purpose, structure, a cause greater than yourself. But now, for the first time, you wondered if Shayâs defection wasnât just a selfish act of betrayal. His eyes when he spoke had held something you hadnât expected: conviction.
You shook your head, banishing the thought. No. I wonât question the Brotherhood. Not now, not because of him.
But that resolve felt brittle.
You caught a glimpse of Shay again through the crowd. He had made his way toward the far end of the ballroom, mingling with Templar officials, exchanging pleasantries. But his eyes kept darting back to you, just as yours did to him.
What was his game?
Your mission was still clear. Gather information. You werenât here for personal matters. You couldnât afford to let Shayâs presence distract you. But despite your attempts to stay focused, your thoughts kept wandering back to that dance, to his touch, to the way his breath had brushed against your ear when he whispered those final words.
Suddenly, a hand landed lightly on your shoulder, jolting you from your reverie.
âCare to join me for a drink, my lady?â The voice belonged to a man in a silver mask, a high-ranking Templar based on the insignia on his sleeve. His eyes were sharp, watching you with interest. It was clear he had noticed your distraction.
Forcing a smile, you nodded, reminding yourself of your mission. âOf course.â
As you followed him to a quieter corner of the room where the drinks were principally gathered, you could feel Shayâs gaze burning into your back, but you didnât look back. You couldnât. The Templar was speaking now, sharing something about the recent victories theyâd secured in the colonies, but you werenât really listening despite the purpose of your mission tonight. Your mind was still with Shay, turning over everything he had saidâand everything he hadnât in a way. After a few minutes of absent-mindedly drinking champagne and listening to the man recount his false prowess, you finally excused yourself from the conversation, your head buzzing with alcohol and of course the weight of your conflicting emotions. You were a little hot and needed air, away from all those rich folks.
You headed for the balcony overlooking the formal gardens of the period building. Stepping out onto the balcony, you took a deep breath of the cool night air, leaning against the marble railing.
It wasnât long before you heard the sound of footsteps behind you. Opening your senses once again, you closed your eyes and you instantly knew who it was.
âYou always did like your quiet moments,â came a familiar voice.
You didnât turn around immediately, your hands tightening on the railing as Shay approached. You could feel his eyes boring into your back, or even your bum, and the tension rolling off him.
âI didnât expect to see you again so soon,â you said, still facing the darkened city beyond. âYouâve made your point. Or was there something else you wanted to say?â
Shay didnât reply immediately. Instead, he stepped beside you, his presence warm and solid in the cool night air. You could feel him watching you, studying you, but you refused to meet his gaze.
âTell me,â he said finally, his voice low and measured, âdo you truly believe in everything the Brotherhood teaches? Or do you just follow because thatâs all youâve ever known?â
The question hit harder than you expected. You had spent years training under the Creed, living by its rules, carrying out its missions without question. But standing here now, with Shay beside you, that certainty felt⊠shaky. He wasnât just talking about betrayal; he was challenging everything you had built your life around.
âWhy are you asking me this?â you shot back, turning towards him and leaning against the fence that was now behind you. The action made the dark-haired man's eyes slide towards your protruding chest, and they stopped there for a few seconds before returning to rest in your eyes. You frowned slightly, licking your lower lip, you decided to ignore his gaze and continued the conversation as if nothing had happened. âYouâre the one who abandoned us. Who betrayed your brothers and sisters. You walked away, Shay. And now you want to question my loyalty?â
His jaw tightened, but his eyes never wavered. âI didnât betray the Brotherhood. I saw the truth. The Assassins⊠theyâre not as righteous as you think. They preach freedom, but theyâre willing to sacrifice anyone who gets in their way.â
You inhaled sharply, your chest suddenly pressed against the corset of your dress. You opened your mouth to argue, but the words died on your lips. There was a certain fire in his eyes, a depth to his conviction that shook you. He wasnât lying. He wasnât manipulating you. He believed what he was saying.
âI followed the Creed because I believed in it, just like you do, [y/n],â seeing that you didnât speak, Shay continued, his voice steady. âBut I couldnât ignore what I sawâthe innocents we put at risk, the people we hurt for the sake of an ideal. The Brotherhood is supposed to protect people, not destroy them.â
You felt a pang of anger, but also of confusion. Shay wasnât wrong about some of the darker sides of the Assassinsâ work. You had seen it yourselfâthe collateral damage, the grey areas where right and wrong blurred.
But you had always trusted the Creed to guide you, to show you the path forward.
âAnd what about the Templars?â you countered. âTheyâre no saints either, Shay. You think theyâre any better?â
âI donât think theyâre perfect,â Shay admitted. âBut they offer something the Assassins never couldâorder, stability. A chance to build a world where people donât have to live in fear of chaos.â
You clicked your tongue and turned away again, staring out at the city while shaking your head, your heart pounding in your chest. You couldnât believe what he was saying. Part of you wanted to reject everything he was saying, to cling to the teachings of the Brotherhood. But another part of youâa part that had been growing ever since Shayâs defectionâcouldnât ignore the doubts.
âWhy are you telling me all of this?â you asked quietly, your lips quivering with sadness.
Shayâs silence was heavy before he finally spoke. âBecause you deserve to know the truth. And because I donât want to lose you to the same blindness that I was caught in for so long.â
His words were raw, unguarded. For a moment, you werenât an Assassin and he wasnât a Templar. You were just two people standing on the edge of something far bigger than either of you.
Your heart ached with the weight of it allâyour history with Shay, your loyalty to the Brotherhood, and the undeniable pull you felt toward him. The night had begun as a mission, but it had become something far more dangerous. The real question was: what would you do now?
Slowly, you turned to face him a second time since you stepped on the balcony, the air between you charged with everything unsaid.
âWhat happens now, Shay?â you breathed, the question hanging heavy in the air.
Shayâs eyes held yours, the storm of emotions mirrored in his gaze. He stepped closer, his voice low but resolute. âNow, we decide what side of history weâre on. Together.â
The weight of Shayâs words lingered in the cool night air, settling between the two of you like an invisible barrier. His eyes held yours, intense and searching yet soft, as if he was trying to read the turmoil inside you, to understand the emotions you werenât sure you could admit to yourself.
âTogether?â you echoed, your voice softer than you intended.
Shay stepped even closer, his tall frame casting a shadow in the moonlight, towering over your gentle but firm and well-trained one. The tension between you shifted, no longer just the push and pull of conflicting loyalties. There was something elseâsomething that had always been there, beneath the surface, but never acknowledged.
The air around you seemed to thicken as he closed the distance. His gloved hand reached up slowly, hesitating for a moment, before gently lifting your mask. The gesture made you swallow your saliva in order to get rid of the lump that was starting to form in your throat. The intricate piece slid off, exposing your face to the nightâs cool breeze. His gaze softened as he studied you, no longer the dangerous man who had left the Brotherhood, but someone familiarâsomeone who had once meant more to you than just a fellow Assassin.
âI never wanted to lose you,â Shay murmured, his voice lower now, more intimate as his eyes gazed at your opened lips. âEven after everything, I never stopped thinking about you.â
His confession sent a jolt through you, and you had to look away, your heart pounding in your chest. The years of anger and betrayal clashed with the warmth that was blooming inside you now, a warmth you hadnât felt since before Shay had turned his back on everything you believed in.
âShay, weâre on opposite sides now,â you whispered, though even as you said it, the words felt hollow.
He didnât back away. Instead, his hand moved to your chin, gently guiding your face back to meet his eyes. âDoes it matter? Here, right now, do sides really matter?â
Your breath caught in your throat. This was dangerousânot just because of who he was, but because of what you felt for him, what you had always felt. His hand moved from your chin to cup your cheek, his touch surprisingly gentle for someone so dangerous, so conflicted.
âI couldnât let you go then, [y/n],â he continued, his voice barely above a whisper. âAnd I canât now.â
The vulnerability in his words, in his gaze, disarmed you completely. All the questions, the doubt, the angerâit melted away in the warmth of his touch. For so long, you had convinced yourself that you hated him, that what he had done was unforgivable. But now, standing here, feeling the heat radiating from him, you realised the truth: you had never stopped caring for him.
Your breath hitched as he leaned in closer, his lips just inches from yours. You could feel the heat of him, the steady rise and fall of his chest. Your heart pounded in rhythm with his, the magnetic pull between you undeniable.
âIâve never stopped thinking about you either,â you admitted, your voice barely more than a breath as your gentle eyes switched from one to another of his and sometimes stopped on his chapped lips for no more than half a second to switch back to his eyes.
That was all the invitation he needed.
Shay closed the distance between you, his lips capturing yours in a kiss that was slow and deliberate, as though he wanted to savour every second. His hand on your cheek slid to the back of your neck, pulling you closer, deepening the kiss. The warmth of him, the way his lips moved against yours, sent a shiver down your spine. The world around you disappearedâthe masquerade, the mission, the war between Assassins and Templars. None of it mattered. Not now.
Your hands found their way to his chest, feeling the solid strength beneath the fabric of his coat, and absent-mindedly stroked the Templar sigil on his torso. His other arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush against him, his body warm and solid against yours. The kiss deepened, the slow burn of passion igniting into something more urgent, more desperate. Years of unspoken tension, of denied feelings, seemed to pour into that kiss, both of you trying to make up for the time you had lost.
When you finally broke apart, both of you were breathing hard, your foreheads resting together as you tried to catch your breath. His thumb gently stroked the side of your neck, a soft, intimate gesture that made your heart race even faster.
âI donât care about the sides anymore,â Shay whispered against your lips, his breath warm. âI care about you.â
His words sent a wave of emotion crashing through you. You knew it wasnât that simpleânothing ever was in your worldâbut for this moment, it felt like it could be. Like the war, the betrayal, everything else could fall away, leaving just the two of you.
âI donât know if we can ever go back,â you whispered, your voice shaky with emotion. âAfter everything thatâs happenedâŠâ
Shayâs hand tightened around your waist, pulling you even closer. âMaybe we donât need to go back. Maybe we can start something new.â
You directed your gaze to meet his own eyes, seeing the same conflict mirrored in his eyesâthe pull of duty against the pull of his heart. But there was something else too: hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, you could find a way forward together.
âI donât know what happens next,â you admitted, chuckling softly, your fingers tracing the edge of his collar.
Shay leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. âNeither do I. But weâll figure it out. Together.â
You closed your eyes, letting yourself savour the moment, the feel of him against you, the warmth of his embrace. For now, that was enough.
And maybe, just maybe, it could be enough for whatever came next.
