I FINALLY GOT THIS DONE YAYY BUT IT’S LIKE 800 WORDS SO THERE’S A KEEP READING DO-HICKY

They’d started a fight. A bar fight. Well, at least she had. He just joined

Surprisingly, Venus had never started one—she’d been in a couple, but never threw the first punch—so it was new. Something on her bucket list, actually. Always a good feeling to scratch something off of there. But she didn’t know how this all really started. One second she was sharing quips with this guy and the next she was stabbing a broken beer bottle into his hand.

Unfortunately, he was part of the biker gang that was dropping by her usual hangout. It was one versus almost a dozen. Until the bartender joined the fray.

Strange hates having her come in on more than a weekly basis. Threatens to kick her out each time she starts getting on his nerves—which is pretty much every time she walks in the door. Venus claims it’s because he’s trying to convince himself he doesn’t like her. She isn’t too sure she’s right, though…

Which is why it was surprising to see him climb over the counter and join her in the fight. She narrowly misses being stabbed with a terrifyingly-large pocket knife because of him. Focusing on avoiding the blade causes her to lose sight of him. It doesn’t worry her—she’s seen Strange break up more than one fight here in the last year.

Venus is scrambling to find the knife after she’s knocked it out of the now-unconscious biker’s hand when a pair of arms hoist her up by the waist. She fights, kicks until she hears Strange’s cursing in her ear. He drags her out the back without a word (besides the swearing) and that’s the moment she notices the sirens.

The flashing red and blue lights reveal a cut under Strange’s eye and one on Venus’s cheek. Some splatters of blood across his white t-shirt—probably from breaking someone’s nose judging by his left hand’s knuckles. Venus sticks a hand through a hole slashed in her tank top. She laughs. Almost gutted by a biker whose breath smelled like cheap whiskey and cigarettes.

Strange’s finger jabs in her face accusingly. “You started this,” he growls. “Always—it’s always you causing me fucking trouble.”

“Hey, in my defense this was the first bar fight I actually started. The others I just joined in.”

“You make them ten times worse! There is nothing stopping you from not joining fights.”

She grins. “There’s nothing stopping me from doing it either.”

“I swear to god Valiri—“

“Freeze!” The two stop their arguing and whip their heads to the mouth of the alley. A police officer has his gun aimed at them.

Huh, Venus thinks. Must be a new one—don’t know his name yet.

Strange’s only thought is God damn it.

“Hands behind your head—now!” the officer orders. He fidgets under Strange’s scowl and Venus’s amused smile.

Definitely new greenie on the force.

“I run the bar, I’m not—“

The officer cuts Strange off. “I said hands behind your head.”

Venus lazily locks her fingers together at the back of her skill. “If you want maximum comfort standing like this, tilt your head forward a little bit—“

“Shut up,” Strange spits as he mimics her. She smothers a smirk so he won’t kill her with a cop for a witness.

The cop calls over another one. They approach Strange and Venus and cuff them.

Venus winks at the greenie. “First time cuffing someone outside the bedroom, officer?”

He splutters. The older cop—named Landry, no need to look at her badge—tells her to shut up and shoves her forward. Venus’s amusement doesn’t fade as she’s crammed in the back of a police car with Strange.

She wriggles around for a good minute before she gets her arms slid under her legs and out in front of her. She turns to Strange and opens her mouth. He stops her before a sound comes out.

“The second another syllable comes out of your mouth, I am banning you from the bar.”

Sticking out her tongue, Venus takes a bobby pin from her pocket. She reaches behind him and undoes one of his cuffs so he can recuff them in front. They’re not going to escape, but hey, she rather be comfortable on a long [police] car ride. Numb arms aren’t enjoyable.

Once she’s tucked the bobby pin in her hair, she glances over and decides she can’t help herself. She leans in so her lips are at Strange’s ear. He tenses.

“I think I can sum up this situation pretty quick—“ “Valiri get away from me—“

“—as the wise Scooby Doo said; “Ruh Roh”.”

Strange jerks away from her with a look of utter contempt. “I hate you.”

Valiri scoffs. “No you don’t. I’m your best tipper, pretty boy. Don’t you forget it.”

He turns to look out the window without saying anything. As Venus is trying to search for the two cops roaming around the chaos outside, she catches a twitch in the corner of Strange’s lips.

Hate me my ass.
