It’s always so heartbreaking to me that every time we see Owen display how he really feels about Luke in canon (the books, and Kenobi) Luke is never there to hear it.
When Owen faces down the inquisitor and declares that Luke IS his son, Luke is already way out of earshot (even though I do sort of consider the Kenobi show non-canon). When Owen talks to Beru after the argument with Luke on the day they die, telling her he feels bad about having to squash Luke’s dreams and wanting to find some way to make it up to him, he never hears it.
Owen’s relationship with Luke WAS complex, and it was rocky sometimes. I’ve always read this as Owen having difficulty being emotionally open, at least as far as the ANH novel and Kenobi show have shown. Owen loves Luke DEEPLY, right to his core. But he doesn’t know how to put that into words. He’s an awkward man! He’s been raised on nightmare hell planet where becoming too attached to someone might end up in them being killed or sold into slavery and you being miserable! Look at what happened to both of his mothers!
When someone you love dies, you look at all their actions with a new light and deeper introspection. Can you imagine the absolute world-shattering thoughts Luke must have had after Owen and Beru died?
Realising he was more deeply loved than he could have ever realised, even if Owen had a harder time showing it.
And Owen’s parental anxiety is shown in Kenobi! Owen Lars, one of the most dedicated fathers in the galaxy, probably died wondering if his son would ever know how much he really loved him.
Owen probably died with so, so many regrets. Owen probably died wondering if he deserved to raise Luke (which he DID) and if he had done enough to prepare his son for the world (HE DID).
Owen Lars has always been a heartbreaking character for me.

Crazy to me how many fans and Anidalas alike don’t know that Padmé canonically always prioritized Anakin above even her duties and responsibilities. And I have a couple of examples here which proves this:
Exhibit A: Yoda noticed that Padmé seemed to care more for Anakin than the Republic in Star Wars, Clone Wars Gambit: Siege. Anakin and OW are both placed on Lanteeb for a mission, that directly affects them and the Republic. (For added context, Yoda doesn’t know Anakin and Padmé are secretly married ofc, so he assumes she’s worrying about both Ani and OW.)
Tumblr media
However, we switch to Padmé’ pov and it’s revealed all her thoughts are of Anakin. Her primary concern is the love of her life. No mention from her of anyone else or of the Republic (where her duties lie.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even Bail catches onto it and worries for Padmé because he’s afraid her fear for Anakin might expose her accidentally. He even internally reprimands her through eye contact to tell her to keep it down a notch, as he notices why she visibly tenses when faced with the question of if they can save Anakin and OW.
Tumblr media
To top it off with the fact that Padmé herself says that nothing was worse than disaster befalling Anakin. Meaning she could handle any news, no matter how severe, of even the Republic. But not anything about Anakin.
Tumblr media
Exhibit B: The Clone Wars, S4 episode 4, Shadow Warrior. In the episode, Anakin and Padmé make it to Naboo for a mission, where Anakin gets held up with Grievous and ends up kidnapped by Padmé’s group, but Anakin ends up captured as well. Palps instructs Dooku to negotiate with Padmé to trade Grievous for Anakin, however Dooku doesn’t seem keen on this idea because how do they know for sure Padmé would make the trade? Palps only replies with saying “I have no doubt, Senator Amidala will gladly agree to your terms.”
Even the biography, Skywalker: A Family At War mentions how Padmé did this, “to save her love.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exhibit C: The Revenge of the Sith Novel/Movie itself. There are two occasions in the novel where Padmé asks Anakin to just forget everything and run away with her. Once when the Republic has fallen and the second time when Anakin has slaughtered the Jedi and Separatists. Padmé’s duties and responsibilities would’ve most definitely lied with aiding the rebellion, even turning Anakin in to either OW or Bail, but she instead desperately wants him to come run away with HER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to quote Catherine Taber the VA to Padmé in TCW, because I feel she said it best
“Anakin is the only matter in which Padmé thinks with her heart instead of of her head.”
It’s more than clear on more than one instance that Padmé’s prime devotion, loyalty, love, and priority was always with Anakin even before her career, and the Republic. The fact that not many fans even acknowledge or know it is why I feel most people can’t comprehend why it is that she died of a broken heart over losing him.
She was and would’ve always chosen Anakin 🪷 💛🚀

So. The graphic novel, huh.
The artstyle is pretty good, I can’t deny it. Joey’s design is beautiful, very dilf-coded. Buddy looks… young. VERY young. He’s supposed to be 17 in Dreams Come To Life but somehow manages to look 12 ? Plus, I don't know how to describe it, but he looks very...angry ? Upset ? I don't think his bubbly, awkward personality appears much in the graphic novel, with his gaze being very...severe. He just looks weird, like a 40 years old in a child body. And Norman… Deep breath. His design is…no. Absolutely NOT it. I didn’t expected much but I still managed to be disappointed. I’ll wait until we get to see Sammy and Tom (especially) before expressing what I think is wrong with these designs but… yeah. I’m so sorry, Norman.

full on feel like pjo tv s2 is not gonna hold up so they need to drag as much attention to the series as they can by using nico as a sock puppet w tsats2
im fully expecting the show to go the way of the movies. it doesnt help Sea of Monsters is almost unanimously the least favorite book of the first series. People frequently forget it even exists or what happens in it, especially more casual fans.
Heck, just look at how little fanfare the second season has gotten so far as compared to the build up to s1. I wouldn't be surprised if s2 totally flops. It would be a little funny.
#pjo#riordanverse#pjo tv#pjo tv crit#tsats 2#Anonymous#ask#im still sad theyre beating every dead horse in the franchise they can EXCEPT for the graphic novels#the poor graphic novels arent getting advertised AT ALL and the BoO one got cancelled#like. the graphic novels would actually be probably one of the best advertising avenues!#like. hey! you dont need to write a whole new book! just remind people of previous books and give them a way to refresh on it#and given how the first couple of graphic novels were a different artists i could totally see them doing a second version#just to make them all consistent. thatd make sense and be reasonable.#the show has also already kind of trapped itself in a corner in a couple of ways#for one they kind of screwed themselves over failing to plan for the actors. yknow. ageing.#Walker is already taller than like. most of the cast. Percy's gonna be TOWERING over Luke by TLO#i think the main trio is all like almost 16 already? and we're only on s2. its gonna be rough. they didnt think about it. they didnt plan.#also with how theyve been messing with plot and characterization theyre VERY quickly going to start running into hurdles#because they dont seem to understand the more you change earlier on. the less the later stuff will work without also needing change#because. it's dependent on what comes before. so we will very quickly be requiring either MASSIVE canon divergence or a lot of retcon#and retcon in the show is going to be VERY OBVIOUS#though i stand by itll be so funny if they solve too much too quickly in s2 just like the movies and it just ends on#''wait. crap. what are we going to do for s3 now. we solved too much too early. they have nothing to do''

finally got a copy of the revised tgcf novels and skimmed book 4 and the fenglian breakup hurts so much more in the revised version... fx's whole line about "i really don't know, then why have i followed you all this time" is removed. instead what happens is, right after xl says "no, it was the past me who was crazy", xl directly tells fx to leave:
Tumblr media
XL: "You should go." FX: "What?" XL: "I said, I don't need you anymore, you should go."
all the other parts of the scene are the same. these revised lines, though, are so painful... it also makes it obvious that fx did not abandon xl, he only left bc xl literally dismissed him as a servant and directly told him to leave 😭 fx doesn't even have that line questioning why he followed xl anymore.

An interesting theme, imo, in mdzs is the sheer tiredness you must feel when dealing with someone who, having been dead for more than a decade, is still the same person as before, while you aren't anymore.

Ah. I have so many unanswered asks, Franstober piled up on me, and my fics go un-updated. I feel myself getting the itch to write my actual novel again, which I'm very happy about. However, I know that means I'm going to be a lot more inactive on here while I dive back into it.
I'll def still be around, but I'll be posting about my novel, Stars & Back, not Undertale (until I get the UT itch again and then I will be revived like an undying curse)
All this to say,

Don't forget about me when I start Stars and Back posting.

Have I mentioned lately that creating AUs is the most fun thing ever? You get to take a story you love and then mash it against another type of story you love and fit all their pieces together like they're a jigsaw puzzle. You get to find all the unexpected points of similarity where the stories fit together really well, and see the places where their differences change and make commentary on the original stories/genres in really interesting ways.
And then once you fit the pieces together, you get to look at the new world you've made and see how these characters in this specific world have different conflicts and explore new themes, and you get to play with another level of puzzles as you figure out what this means for this story.
It's the most fun ever. It's my favorite game.
